Description

Calypso is a spacious, stable 65' foot powered catamaran custom built here in Hawaii to provide full-featured snorkeling and dinner cruises. With its three decks, all-table seating, and indoor/outdoor design, this vessel is a great choice for a Molokini and Turtle Town snorkel for those who are looking for a stable boating experience. The twin hull design of the catamaran allows it to cut through the waves while the center of the vessel is held above the surface. A smooth, fast ride is the result!

Whether you are a first-time snorkeler, or an experienced, strong swimmer, you can still snorkel with the Calypso. The crew will patiently instruct you in the use of their snorkel gear. When the vessel stops at a snorkel site getting in and out of the ocean is FAST ... the entire stern of the vessel transforms into stairways leading down to the water with ELEVEN lanes of snorkeling access. In addition to the essential mask, fins, and snorkel sets, the boat also offers prescription masks and comfortable flotation devices. You can also rent a wetsuit to help you keep warm, and rent an underwater camera to bring home shots of the amazing sea life you encounter! And if you have kids who are too young to snorkel or adults who just don't want to get in the ocean, the Calypso has a glass bottom viewing area below the lower deck that is open when the vessel is stopped!

Calypso has a two-location snorkel itinerary that departs from Maalaea Harbor at 7:30am and is 5 hours in length. On the vast majority of days the first destination is Molokini Crater and its crystal clear 100 foot visibility, and the second destination is Turtle Town, where you can snorkel and swim with Hawaiia's fascinating and friendly giant green sea turtles! Please note that while this is the normal itinerary on the vast majority of days, ocean conditions can vary and the captain will adjust destinations based upon the best ocean conditions for snorkeling that particular morning.

Check In: 6:45am at Maalaea Harbor slip #76 & #78. This is the boat harbor in Central Maui just behind the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium along Highway 30. Parking is available for a small fee and can be paid using credit card or using an app on your phone. Allow ample time for parking / arranging payment.

Vessel: High speed 65' powered catamaran coast guard certified for 149 passengers.

What to Wear: Wear swimsuits and bring a towel and sunscreen. We also recommend a light jacket.

Reservations: Advanced reservations required and we recommend booking this a month or more before your arrival. This event is "RESERVE NOW PAY LATER"; we need a credit card on file to finalize your reservation but we do not charge you for this reservation until a few days before the beginning of your vacation!

Minimum Notice for Cancellations / Changes: At least 48 hours before the start of the event. All tours go out rain or shine.

Note: Calypso is one of the few vessels that is wheelchair accessible for access to the lower deck. Please note that this allows a wheelchair guest to go along to enjoy the cruise, but they will not be able to access the ocean, or upper decks, or glass bottom viewing area as all these require the use of stairs.

Let's begin by making it clear … there are MANY boats that do Molokini snorkel tours. There are lots of old icky boats, a host of mediocre trips, and then there are a few great ones and THEY are the ones you are reading about on this page. WE ONLY BOOK NICE MOLOKINI TRIPS!!! You can't go wrong with ANY of the boats listed on our Molokini tour pages. We don't book OLD boats that are poorly maintained … period. I have personally been on EVERY one of these boats and stand behind these tour operators. Now that you don't have to worry about us booking you on a BAD boat the only question left to settle is "Which boat is the very best for you?"

Calypso is the BEST of the BIGGER boats. Some people want the stability that comes with size. Others want all the features that come with a large boat (and this vessel has the most impressive list of those features). There are two things that make Calypso the BEST choice among the larger boats. 1. The seating is comfortable and EVERYONE gets a table at their seat so you can enjoy the food and beverages provided on the tour without having to balance plates on your lap! This is a big deal. It leads to a lot more of the food ending up in your mouth and a lot less ending up on the deck of the boat! haha

The second and REALLY important part is the number of lanes for access to the ocean to get in and out for snorkeling. The Calypso's ELEVEN lanes of stairs leading to the ocean is the best-designed access of all the Molokini boats. This cuts down on the length of time it takes to get into the water, which is a major complaint on some of the other larger Molokini boats!!!

Molokini as a snorkel destination is somewhat weather-dependent. While all tours that advertise Molokini as a destination will make every effort to provide guests with the Molokini experience, a few days a year mother nature is in charge and the tours get diverted to an alternate snorkel site. Ultimately the decision is up to the captain of the respective vessel and that decision is always made with the safety and comfort of the guests in mind.

Morning is typically a better time for snorkeling than the afternoon because the trade winds here in Hawaii are much lighter in the morning and the wind usually kicks up around noon or so. Many boats (and activity desks) advertise less expensive afternoon Molokini trips … we don't find this approach to be an honest one. Because of stronger trade winds, most afternoon trips go to "Coral Gardens" which is near the tunnel along the Pali Highway between Maalaea and Lahaina. Coral Gardens is a nice spot to snorkel … but it isn't Molokini. We do offer these afternoon trips, but we take the high road here at Adventuremaui.com … since your chances of going to Molokini in the afternoon are less than 10%, we prefer to market them as Coral Gardens snorkel tours … which occassionally get diverted to Molokini on really calm afternoons. If you want to be reasonably sure you are going to Molokini, you definitely want to book a morning trip when your chances of getting to Molokini are more like 95% instead of 10%.

Both times the meals, crew, and music deserved a "10". Meals were fresh and served warm. We tried the prime rib the first cruise and the fish the second. The salad and the dessert were excellent too. There was a nice choice of drinks too. Crew is very polite and making sure you have everything you need. They have an enclosed seating section on the 1st deck if you prefer to be out of the wind. Unfortunately, we had some rough seas but the captain did his best to find some calm waters during dinner hour, and the staff worked hard keep the drinks flowing and did it all with a smile. Foodwise, the baby back ribs are recommended but the Mahi Mahi was awful. It looked and tasted like it came out of the freezer in a box. When we go to Hawai'i, or any other coastal destination, one of the activities that we enjoy is a nice relaxing sunset dinner cruise. On this particular trip, we went to Hawai'i with a group of friends - 22 in total. Of those, 12 of us went on this dinner cruise on June 23, 2023. If you have ever been on a dinner cruise, you know to expect some minor "turbulence." It's just the nature of the excursion. But this particular day after a windy day, the ocean was nothing but chop. They started cocktail service before the boat even left port, which was great, however because of the EXTREME turbulence several people lost their drinks, including my wife who ended up wearing hers. She was not happy about it. When the food service came around there was a similar issue in that several people lost their meals to their laps or the floor. My wife had the prime rib, and had maybe 2 bites of it before she lost it to the floor. Some of the crew witnessed this and they helped with the cleanup, but never once offered to get her a new meal. Then there was the sea sickness. I'm not afflicted by it, but several in our party had issues. I in particular had so much of an issue that he was unable to eat. He spent most of the shortened trip on the lower deck puking off the back of the boat. In our opinion, that's where the big miss was. The service was a big miss. For what this dinner cruise costs, you'd think they would offer to replace lost drinks or meals. They didn't. There were a lot of apologies, but that doesn't quite compensate for an overall terrible experience. Even a comp'd or discounted rebooking would have been a step in the right direction, but no. They also offer whale-watching excursions and sunset dinner cruises to remember.

All their tours depart from the dock on Maalaea Harbor bright and early in the morning and again in the afternoon. For their morning tours, you’ll need to arrive at 6:45 am for check-in, and then get onboard by 7:30 am. Afternoon excursions leave at 1:30 pm sharp. They take all their guests on the one-and-only triple-decker catamaran on the island. Excellent views abound as a result, plus they have a huge slide going from the top deck down to the water.

Once you get on board, their morning snorkeling and whale-watching tours start with breakfast favorites, including decadent pastries. In the afternoon, you’ll start out with lunch. Your captain will point out all the most impressive sights around as you zoom toward either Molokini or Turtle Town. If you prefer to check out the depths along the way, go down to the glass section in the boat to see beneath the surface.

Upon arriving at your target destination, you’ll get a chance to don your snorkeling gear – or your SNUBA gear if you upgrade – and get into the water. All along the way, the instructors will keep you well informed on how to use the gear and navigate through the waves. Despite her efforts, she is unable to win Odysseus’ genuine love, conceding and allowing him to resume his journey home. On the island of Maui there is a boat named after Calypso which is similarly charming, offering enchanting ocean views and the immortality of everlasting memories. The Calypso Maui experience kicks off in the morning at Ma’alaea harbor. Following a simple check-in, you walk right up the ramp and board the boat. With three floors providing plenty of seating, enjoy breakfast platters at the bar to fuel up for the upcoming journey. A short safety briefing later and the boat sets sail.

Certainly, on a snorkel cruise, you’ll be needing snorkel gear. You can remain comfortably seated, though, as the diligent Calypso crew is on the job, providing high-quality masks, snorkels, and fins suitable for any shoe size. If desired, they can also arrange a wetsuit for you at a nominal cost. Everything is handled, allowing you to unwind and appreciate the beautiful scenery of the islands Maui, Kaho’olawe, and of course the destination islet Molokini.

The Molokini islet, a small crescent-shaped landmass, marks the summit of a long extinct volcano. Submerged at the end of the last ice age due to rising water levels, the crater became a thriving hub of marine life. After thousands of years, it is now a perfect shelter for snorkelers and divers. The volcanic rock walls not only offer protection from waves and currents but also create a serene environment for swimming, resembling an underwater garden where over 250 species of fish reside.

Snorkeling from the Calypso is made easy. The dive step turns the entire rear section of the boat into a convenient staircase down to the water. This design allows multiple people to enter or exit simultaneously, eliminating long waiting lines on the boat and in the water.

However, Calypso’s not done yet. The vessel then makes its way to a second snorkel spot, a small area off the coast of southern Maui affectionately known as Turtle Town, named after its inhabitants. Green Sea Turtles , growing 3-4 feet long, share this region. Although they spend the majority of their lives submerged, these turtles, like humans, breathe oxygen. While at rest, they can remain underwater for several hours, but when active, they surface every 4-5 minutes, offering you a prime opportunity to witness these Hawaiian symbols of good luck.

The second destination also brings a well-timed lunch break, just as your appetite is likely to have been stirred. Choose between teriyaki chicken or Hawaiian-style slow-cooked kalua pork, conveniently crafted into sandwiches along with traditional sides. Okay, you’re in Maui, and it’s whale season. What do you do? Go on one of the amazing Maui humpback whale watching tours, of course!  (Did you think the whales would come to you?  Even if your hotel does have really high ceilings, I’m sorry, but I’m not sure any amount of coaxing would bring an adult humpback into the bar for shrimp cocktail; they can grow up to fifty feet long!)

“We’re gonna need a bigger boat,” you say.

And what a boat our Calyspo is!  Holy cow (that is what you call a female whale, after all, and yes, a male is known as a bull), this boat is awesome!  It’s a double-decker, high-speed, 55-foot catamaran, and that thing is used to plying the high seas.  I don’t know if you know this, but Maui is one of the toughest places to learn how to use a boat.  If you can do well here, you can do well anywhere, and the captain and crew of Calypso always do exceptionally well!  They’ve been bringing people to the whales in complete comfort (once again, this is much easier than bringing the whales to the people) for 20 years, now, with only very happy passengers and whale songs to report.  As you can probably tell by now, we run one of the best humpback whale watching tours around!

So, why do the humpback whales come here every year?  It could be for the same reasons you come to Maui–to find a mate and/or give birth!  And when it comes to food here, you get to try all kinds of culinary delights on Maui, but the whales get nothin’.

Except for the babies, who are drinking mom’s milk at the rate of 130 gallons per day, the whales are surviving on the fat they’ve stored up while feeding in Alaska.  They migrate 3000 miles to the place they themselves were born, to give birth to their calves in relative safety.  (Very rarely do orcas swim through these parts.)  I can hardly imagine not eating on purpose for the entire trip down, the time it takes to teach my calf to get it together as a whale, and then the trip back.  These guys are incredible! You’ve got to come spend a couple hours with us on our Calypso Humpback whale watching tours.  I guarantee you’ll have a whale of a time.

Moscow Metro 2019

Will it be easy to find my way in the Moscow Metro? It is a question many visitors ask themselves before hitting the streets of the Russian capital. As metro is the main means of transport in Moscow – fast, reliable and safe – having some skills in using it will help make your visit more successful and smooth. On top of this, it is the most beautiful metro in the world !

. There are over 220 stations and 15 lines in the Moscow Metro. It is open from 6 am to 1 am. Trains come very frequently: during the rush hour you won't wait for more than 90 seconds! Distances between stations are quite long – 1,5 to 2 or even 3 kilometers. Metro runs inside the city borders only. To get to the airport you will need to take an onground train - Aeroexpress.

RATES AND TICKETS

Paper ticket A fee is fixed and does not depend on how far you go. There are tickets for a number of trips: 1, 2 or 60 trips; or for a number of days: 1, 3 days or a month. Your trips are recorded on a paper ticket. Ifyou buy a ticket for several trips you can share it with your traveling partner passing it from one to the other at the turnstile.

On every station there is cashier and machines (you can switch it to English). Cards and cash are accepted. 1 trip - 55 RUB 2 trips - 110 RUB

Tickets for 60 trips and day passes are available only at the cashier's.

The cheapest way to travel is buying Troyka card . It is a plastic card you can top up for any amount at the machine or at the ticket office. With it every trip costs 38 RUB in the metro and 21 RUB in a bus. You can get the card in any ticket office. Be prepared to leave a deposit of 50 RUB. You can get it back returning the card to the cashier.

One turnstile at every station accept PayPass and payments with phones. It has a sticker with the logos and located next to the security's cabin.

GETTING ORIENTED

At the platfrom you will see one of these signs.

It indicates the line you are at now (line 6), shows the direction train run and the final stations. Numbers below there are of those lines you can change from this line.

In trains, stations are announced in Russian and English. In newer trains there are also visual indication of there you are on the line.

To change lines look for these signs. This one shows the way to line 2.

There are also signs on the platfrom. They will help you to havigate yourself. (To the lines 3 and 5 in this case).
