Splendid Mysore to Coorg Tour Package for 1 Night & 2 Days with Itinerary & Price

Mysore and Coorg are two of the most visited places in the state of Karnataka. Coorg / Madikeri is blessed with the bounties of nature and a misty landscape that will be adored by nature and photography lovers. You must also pay a visit to the coffee and spice groves in the town with our 1 Night & 2 Days Coorg Tour Package from Mysore .

Mysore is a living example of how a city can be modern in all aspects and yet be deeply rooted in its history, culture and traditions. Also known as The City of Palaces, Mysore is visited by scores of tourists every year to explore its grandeur, especially during Dussehra. Mysore also boasts of natural magnificence such as Karanji Lake, Brindavan Gardens and Chamundi Hills.

Mysore has its own railway station and airport, which is fairly well connected to other parts of the country. Coorg despite lacking proper rail and air connectivity has excellent road networks which makes the town accessible from Mysore.

Located at a mere distance of 107 km of each other, Mysore and Coorg can be easily toured even on a short weekend. Since most of the tourist spots lie on the way, the best way to tour the cities is by road.

All of you have to do is give us a headstart and we will arrange for a vehicle that suits your needs the best. We provide great options in hatchbacks, SUVs, sedans and traveller tempos and needless to say, every cab is comfortable, luxurious and function perfectly as tourist vehicles!

Feedback for Homestay & Hotel: Neat Hotel, good buffet breakfast. Nice and pleasant homestay in the middle of thick coffee and pepper plantations. Bird sounds and chirping are a nice addition to the natural experience. Good rooms and very good home style food. Nice and warm owner. Overall a pleasant experience. Feedback for Driver: Sunil was very punctual and good in English communication. He knew all the routes and places very well, and helped us whenever needed. We are satisfied with his services.
Mysore & Coorg trip was nice to enjoy the natural places, especially during monsoon season. Balakrishna Homestay was wonderful.  After having all the heavy meals at Mysore, having  home cooked food at Balakrishna was very satisfying. Driver Chethan was very good, experienced. Very much patience, and very polite. Safe driver.
It was a wonderful experience for our Mysore & Coorg trip. The Room at Mysore and buffet breakfast was good. We really enjoyed the tour. The communication has been very prompt and timely from the time I booked online till the tour concluded. Hospitality at Balakrishna Homestay was great. Food was delicious. We also appreciate the company and guidance give by Mr.Sunil(Our driver).
Amazing Experience visiting Mysore/Coorg on a 4 night and 5 Day package. Starting with stay at Mysore - It was good, customer friendly experience. Staff was very friendly and ready for any requested service. Stay at Coorg was at Kaveri Riverside which too was an amazing experience. Manu Uncle and Aunty are very cooperative, friendly and always ready to help. They made sure we were comfortable at the homestay. Inspite of travelling with a 4 year old daughter, we never felt like requesting anything again. All was well served and on time. Driver Srinivas was very helpful and cooperative. His suggestions for restaurant stop-overs, tea breaks, shopping places all were very good and worth-stopping. His driving skills are also worth appreciating, be it on express highway or in the ghat roads. Overall it was an overwhelming 5 day experience and would definitely recommend this trip to my friends and colleagues. Thanks very much 🙂
Trip to Mysore and Coorg was totally good. Covered all the places as mentioned in the itinerary. Had a wonderful trip, all thanks to driver Sunil anna. We had a hassle free trip. Mysore Coorg Ooty Road Trip – How to Plan & What to See

I recently completed a Mysore Coorg Ooty Road Trip and it turned out to be one of the most favorite trips of my life. After all, it was a family trip. I had planned everything and booked everything in advance. Since I was traveling with my family, I made sure to leave no stone unturned and everything was pitch-perfect.

It was a long trip of almost 10 days. Along the way, I experienced a number of things and food and historic places, etc. The route that was planned was Bangalore >Mysore >Coorg >Ooty> Bangalore >Home. It was one of a kind of a trip. It was not exactly a road trip, but since the places were so far from each other, we made sure to explore every bit of a place on the way. In the post below, I will share some of the things I learned about visiting Mysore, Coorg and Ooty that can be of help to others.

How to Reach Bangalore?

The first part of our plan was to get to Bangalore and move to Mysore from there. This was really the easy part. You can either reach Bangalore via Airport or Train. Make sure to book your hotel somewhere in the city so that your transportation becomes easier for the next destination.

  • By Train: Bengaluru City Junction Railway Station
  • By Air: Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru

We stayed in Bangalore for a Day so that we get prepped up for what the next day had for us.

Best Time to Visit Mysore Coorg Ooty

The best time to plan a trip here would be during the winter season, from December till February. Monsoons and Summers are not the best seasons to visit these places as It would be too hot and heavy rainfall could spoil the trip. Now let us take a look at all these destinations one by one and I will explain what you should be doing here as a tourist.

Mysore is known as the city of palaces. The city was earlier the capital of the Wodeyar rulers who were great patrons of art and culture. Once you explore the palaces and architecture you will see the rich heritage of the city. Apart from that, the city is also known for sandalwood products and the Dasara festival (Navaratri) held every year. Make sure to buy Authentic Sandalwood products from the local market.

We visited the Mysore Palace. I was spellbound. It was an excellent combination of Dravidian, Indo-Saracenic, Oriental and Roman styles of architecture. The Maharaja’s Palace is a beautiful three storied stone building of fine gray granite and rich pink marble domes.  Overlooking this structure is a huge tower whose domes were painted in gold. Photography is strictly prohibited.

Next on the list was Mysuru Zoo. It was started by Chamarajendra Wadiyar X initially as a private Zoo. The Zoo has about 1000s animals. Mysuru Zoo was the first in the country to obtain Gorillas and Penguins. Even though, now there were no big animals in the zoo, we still enjoyed being there.

Next on the list was the Brindavan Garden. The Brindavan Gardens were located just below one of the dams, often described as the best example of illuminated terrace gardens in the country.

Mysore to Coorg

The distance from Mysore to Coorg is about 120 km and can be covered in approximately 2.5 hrs. Coorg is located in the south-west part of Karnataka, bordering Kerala. Coorg is India’s famous travel destination and has been called the Scotland of India by the British. It is sometimes also referred to as the Kashmir of South India. I was awestruck with its beauty as I had never imagined it to be so beautiful. The natural beauty of the region, the warmth of its people, the culture and the food are the major attractions that draw people to Coorg.

What to see in Coorg

The first place to see in Coorg was the Tibetan Golden Temple near Bailkoppa. This Tibetan Temple and the settlement here was the second largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet. As soon as we reached the place, we saw so many Tibetans. There were the famous Tibetan flags in the place. After asking my driver I came to know that there are over 7,000 monks and students at the Tibetan monastery.

The Buddhist Monastery was re-built here in 1972. The 40 ft tall golden Buddha statue was the major attraction of Bailkoppa. The statues of Buddha and Amitayus are notable ones. The walls of the temples and the institutions were decorated with colorful paintings depicting gods and demons from Tibetan Buddhist mythology. The altar was decorated with flowers, candles and incense sticks.

Apart from the calm and peaceful surroundings, there was a Tibetan market near the temples that sold traditional Tibetan items like costumes, statues, carpets, jewelry, etc.

In the evening we visited the Raja’s Seat or the Seat of the King. The Raja’s seat is a famous sunset point in Madikeri. In fact, it used to be once the platform from which the kings of Kodagu used to enjoy glorious sunsets. The place got its name as it was the favorite recreational place for the king. Raja’s seat stands inside an amazing garden of seasonal flowers and musical fountains. Today it is a famous destination of Madikeri which is visited by tourists throughout the year.

Madikeri Fort and Abbey Falls

Next on the list was, TheMadikeri Fort. It has an intriguing historical past. It was initially built of mud and later replaced with the present structure by Tipu Sultan. The fort also holds some remains of the British era, including a vintage clock tower. Sunsets viewed from the fort are simply beautiful.

Abbey falls is one of the most viewed attractions in Coorg.  The picturesque view of the fall will surely take your breath away. It will also provide you with quite a few photographic moments. The waterfall comes down from a height of around 50 feet and provides a superb vista. The monsoon season, from June to September, is a great time to visit Abbey Falls. This is when the water levels are at their highest and most powerful.

Coorg to Ooty

Oots is located at a distance of about 240 km from Coorg and can be reached in approximately 5.5 hrs. Ooty is popularly called as “The Queen of Hill Stations”. It mixes up Indian bustle with lovely parks and gardens and charming Raj-era bungalows.

Places to visit in Ooty and Things to Do

Sightseeing the Botanical Garden will be the first and one of the most popular things to do here. Ooty Botanical Garden is divided into six areas, which include the Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory, Fountain Terrace and Nurseries. As soon as we reached there, all we could see was a riot of colors. A wide range of spreading flower beds was an intrinsic part of Ooty Botanical Gardens. It is also a popular haunt for tourists and offers a variety of trees, shrubs, and flowers.

Go for Boating in Ooty Lake

There were two kinds of boats available; pedal and motorboats. Adjacent to the lake there are a lot of activities such as Toy train ride, 3-D shows, Tora-Tora ride & also ponies were available for rides.

The Very Beautiful Centenary Rose Garden

This Rose garden is not like any other garden. It is in fact laid on huge acres of land. This garden is beautifully laid out in terraces with rose, pergolas and rose creepers. I have seen all the types, size and colors of roses here. It has the largest collections of roses in the country. Around 3600 varieties of roses are found here, like Hybrid Tea Roses, miniature rose, Floribunda, Ramblers, roses of unusual colors like black, yellow, green, white and many more varieties that will captivate your senses.

Our hotel was located at the top and the roads were all about Hairpin turns and dives. I encountered around 36 Hairpins and bend curves on the way. It was both fascinating and a bit scary as well.

The Tea Factory

As soon as we entered the vicinity, we could smell everything Tea. Of course, after all, it was The Tea Factory. It has a two-story building that had tea leaves driers on the second floor, while the walls are splattered with the history of tea and the art of tea-making via paintings and more. You can buy varieties of Tea from there. You can also see the whole process of Tea Making and taste some of the significant Tea. We bought a few Tea Packets from there.

Catch a Landscape view of Coimbatore

The Doddabetta Peak stands at height of 2,623 meters. It is the highest point in the district, offering a bird’s eye view of the whole of Coimbatore and the adjoining areas around it. One of the most remarkable things about Doddabetta is its top summit, which makes you see and wonder in amazement. The area around the peak is a reserved forest and is home to many endangered species of flora and fauna.

What can you buy in Mysore Coorg Ooty

  • The first item would be Coffee. The organic unadulterated coffee grown in Coorg should be there at the top of your shopping list.
  • Coffee Scrubs and Face Packs
  • You should also buy some Coorg Honey. Honey in Coorg is matchless in terms of purity and flavor and it is always in high demand
  • Tibetan Artefacts woul dbe next on the list, including items like Tibetans Flags and Sarees.
  • Authentic Sandalwood
  • Homemade chocolates of Coorg can make a great souvenir. Choci Coorg in Madikeri is a great place to find a variety of homemade local chocolates.
  • Last but not least would be Mysore Pak. You will find the authentic Mysore Pak only in Bangalore. Buy some for yourself or as a gift for your friends and family

What to Pack for such a long trip

  • Casual Comfortable clothes for the Car Journey
  • Warm clothes as it will be really cold on Top of the Ooty Mountains in the Hotels.

  • NSR19 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles A short 1 night (1.5 days) visit to Ujjain (Noon to next day night) Brief idea regarding Ujjain tour - Plan your hotel near Mahakal temple. Bit costly but are very convenient as yu can visit Mahakal ji anytime and commuting is easy. One of the location is Harifaatak road which is near to it. Please be informed that maximum hotels have very cramped room, so choose wisely. Day 1 - Mahakal temple, Harsiddhi temple and Ganesh temple in near vicinity of 1 kilometer. At Mahakaal you can buy Sheeghra darshan ticket for Rs 250, which saves your time. They will also ask for mobile deposit, but if yu can manage risk, try carrying mobile inside for pics. PS - if there is not much crowd and provided no checking is going on, you may plan taking your camera inside to get few pics of premises as it has lot many small temples in Mahakal ji area. Then comes the Mahakaal lok, a MUST visit, which will take around 1-2 hours. In that area is one DURLABH DARSHAN kendra with VR facility of Bhasm Arti and Shivling information.....A MUST WATCH , you will feel as if you are there in the temple in front of Lord Shivling, awsummm experience. - I am not writing of morning Bhasm Arti as i did not try that, you can have that information on google and temple site for online booking. Day 2 - Plan visit of Kal Bhairav, Gadkalika, Sidhhvat, hrinmukteshwar, Mangalnath ji and Sandipani Ashram. This will take around 3-5 hours subject to crowd at Kal Bhairav and Mangalnath temple (here you can buy sheeghra darshan for Rs 100). -You may take e-rickshaw or Auto which would cost from Rs 400-700. Your Auto person shall plan and get it done as per the route convenience which is not a problem. -At Kal Bhairav you can offer liquor from nearby shop, i would advise you buy the same beforehand as its very costly at that location shops. I bought my brand for Rs 1300, which outside would be around 800-900 per quarter. - if time remains you may plan for Chintamani Ganesh temple which is quite far from there and on negotiations E rickshaw or Auto may further ask from Rs 200-400 extra. In all it will take max 1.5 hrs extra if you visit that place which is normally not that crowded. - At Mangalnath outside vendor shall offer you to take bouqet of offering for Rs 100/ RS 150/ Rs 250, you may plan as per your need if you will be using those yantras and maalas at home else buy wisely, as in my first visit i spent bit more and thats why making a note of it. - You can leave shoes at vendor from where you buy offerings - try buying offerings from mid area shops and ignore most nearby esp at Chintamani temple, as it would not be fresh as most crowd buy either at start or mid area, so freshness due to heavy sale is better there. - While going from Mahakaal temple to Harsidhi temple from gullies do try to have lassi from side shops. - Plan for evening visit to Harsiddhi temple as evening arti with lightening of Diyas is very cool. - Ignore buying paranthas or deep fry things etc from rehdi waala as the oil they use is very bad, better buy from shop good shop. - Poha, Sabudana Khichdi and lassi are good to try, rest all routine food is available. - You can buy Mahakal T Shirts and kurta from there for Rs 100-150 as per size and quality - Do advise the chef/vendor for Mirchi as per your taste as they eat hell lot of lal mirch powder. - Try pedas (sweet) from gullies surrounding Mahakaal temple - very delicious. - There may be other places but i am giving you my account of journey only as guide. - If you go to Indore to catch flight or train, do plan to visit Khajrana temple of Lord Ganesha, which is very beautiful. Hope i am able to give basic insights which are helpful. Mine visit was short for 1.5 days only, but would advise at least 2 nights visit for peaceful tour. Read more Written 9 April 2024

  • ashwanitravel 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A walk through for your Ujjain visit I will like to give a summarised account of my recent visit to Ujjain: 1- Our stay in Ujjain was for two days in which we covered every thing, My advice is that you should stay for two nights in Ujjain. 2- We wanted to stay near Mahakal temple. In our online search we found Hotel Shipra Avenue. The biggest advantage of this hotel is that temple gates are only about 100 meters away. You can visit the temple any time. Rooms are small but clean. Manager VK Bhatnagar is a nice man and he is very helpful. They charged Rs 2500 per day. However durning my stay I came to know that the prices can be negotiated. There in no window in the room but since it is air condition room so you don't require. After darshan of Mahakal you will be so tired that you will start loving this place. 3- For fooding near Mahakal I went to two restaurant- Apna Sweets and Damruwala. Both are good places. At Apna sweets you will get good thali and south Indian. At Damruwala you can enjoy dal bafla thali. Try dal bafla at least once when you are in Ujjain, it is a Madhya Pradesh version of dal bati. There is a much hype for Sai Palace Dal Bafla, but I will suggest Shree Guru Dandipani Restaurant for dal bafla, the price for the thali is Rs 190/-. They also give chapati with bafla. My advice is you should not eat roti first, as bafla is unlimited you should only have bafla. In Ujjain the price of thali at all places are on higher side. But I think you don't have any option. 4- Now the most important thing is Darshan at Mahakal. It is a matter of your own wish and desire how you want to worship your God. I am giving you an account of my darshan on various timings. 4.1- We reached our hotel at 12 pm after settling down in the hotel we took a bath and immediately went for general darshan. I take with me only a water bottle to drink. It took only 45 minutes for darshan. It was a casual darshan after that we took our lunch at apna sweets. 4.2- We had our booking for Bhasma Aarti. The booking is done online just one month before the date of darshan. The charges are Rs 200 per person. The slot for booking opens at 8 am and within 5 mintutes whole slot for 400 peoples is booked. If you are visiting for two days than I will suggest you to go for bhasma aarti or otherwise you can have virtual darshan of aarti by booking it from the temple counters. We went to gate no 1 for Bhasma Aarti at 12 am, at that time the queue was only for 50 people. I was in pant and Tshirt and my wife was in kurta salwar. Don't forget to bring your ID in original and print out of your booking otherwise the security people will not allow you. At 4 am they will allow you to enter the hall/ mandapm from where you will see the aarti. The whole process from reaching to this hall is very tedious. When we entered the hall we found that the whole hall was full, I don’t know from where these people came while in the queue for aarti only about 50 people were ahead of us. The hall was packed and in total there will be around thousand people while the aarti slot is only for 400 people. I can not comment on that. But to be in the darbar of Mahakal itself gives a high level of positive energy. You can only see the aarti from long distance and will many times switch to LED TV showing live telecast of aarti. In my opinion you go to gate at 3 am for aarti, there is no need to go early. Jap Om Namah Shivay. Concentrate fully on God. Get a place in the darbar anywhere, it is immaterial where you sit. Last but not least don’t forget to take a water bottle with you. 4.3 Now the very important aspect of darshan- Garbh Grah Darshan. This is a must in my opinion. The slot for online booking opens at 4 pm just one day before. Charges are Rs 750 per person. Keep ready soft copy of your ID and photo. Get a print out of your booking and original ID. Gents make sure that they are in unstitched dhoti and nothing on the body except angocha. Ladies even girls of small age should be in saree. The security will not allow you if you are in any other dress. It takes around 2 hours for this Garbh Ghar Darshan. You reach directly near the jyotirlinga and do Jal abhishekh and take the blessings. Don’t forget to bring parshad from Parshad counter, it is paid and you can select the size of parshad box. Nothing is allowed inside garb grah except flowers in your hand not even in any basket. 5- In our first day we visited the darbar of Mahakal in general queue. At sharp 4 pm we booked our garb grah darshan for next day. In the evening we went to Bada Ganesh temple, Harshidhi temple, Vikramaditya Singhasan, Ramghat and Mahakal corridor. All these things are within 500 mt from my hotel so I was great walking. We had dinner of dal bafla at Damruwala. 6- Next day in the early morning or rather mid night we went for Bhasma Aarti. We came back to our hotel at 6.30 am we slept till 10 am. We took bath and went for Garb Grah Darshan as our booking was for 11.30 am. Again we had our lunch at Apna Sweets and slept till 4 pm. At 5 we went to other darshans. Our hotel Manager Mr Bhatnagar called an auto rickshaw. We went to Sandipani Ashram, Mangalnath Temple, Sidhbat, Gadkalika. I think those visiting Ujjain should not miss Kalvairabh and Gadkalika temple. It is said that Mahakal darshan is incomplete without the darshan of Kalbhairav. Liquor is offered to the temple deity as one of the five tantric ritual offerings known as panchamakara. Gadkalika Temple, popularly called as Ujjain Mahakali, is dedicated to Goddess Kali. We reached Gadkalika temple at the time of aarti. The aarti is done with heavy musical instruments. Reach there at aarti time in the evening. We had our dinner at Shree Guru Dandipani Restaurant of dal bafla thali. You must try it. We finished our day with kesar pista kulfi at ‘famous kulfi’, this is worth enjoying. The company I chose was perfect in every way. You are assigned a Tour Manager (ours was Amit Tomar who has 15 years experience in coordinating all the people and drivers and details so much so that you don't have to do anything except show up in the hotel lobby at the time they say) who customizes your choices for either 3,4,or 5 star hotels. You have one driver for your group (2-10 people) and a very comfortable car. You are basically chauffered around to the various cities to which you meet your guide (different in each city as they are locals that have been trained for a minimum of 1 month ea year to get their liscense to be a professional tour guide representing the country. The driver and tour guide was always on time and their one goal was to answer a zillion questions from us about Indian customs and culture, history, and today while presenting the current site/city in great depth and with enthusiasm. No worries throughout and tour was actually better than we anticipated. How often does that happen! The company (Holidays At aka Yatra Exotic) is experienced (in biz since 2009), has a great website with every kind of tour in India you can imagine for almost any number of days and combinations. The price was reasonable and worth 10x more. They are very interested in detailed feedback about each guide and hotel in each city and the driver, vehicle, services to make sure their folks are performing as requested. I would take another tour with this company in a second. They seem to do India only-but I wish they did tours in other places. Read more Written 25 November 2022

Coorg

Credits: Jean JonesOne of the highest peaks in the Kodagu region, Tadiandamol has been a favourite not only amongst the trekkers but also with nature lovers, bird watchers and photo enthusiasts. The mountains have withstood the testimony of time and have inspired many since time immemorial. The erstwhile rulers of the Kodagu region have drawn serious inspiration from the mighty mountain. Trails of their legacy have been left behind at the Nalknad Palace which is close to 200-year old now. Tadiandamol has a rich diversity in its flora and fauna harmoniously co-existing amidst the dense forests and grasslands of the Western ghats.Tadiandamol Peak is the third-highest point in the region of Karnataka offering a magnificent view of the valley after crossing the meadows, water bodies, Shola forest and lush green vegetation. This peak stands at a height of 5,735 feet above sea level and is a favourite spot for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The mountain has stood testimony to the time and has witnessed several incidents both natural and man-made. Though scaling one of the tallest mountains in Karnataka is not the only adventure but it offers a great view of the surroundings and is one of the famous places to visit in Coorg.Trekking along Tadiandamol teaches one to be valiant and patient while one observes the bounty of mother nature. As one starts from the base village of Kakkabe, the snaking trails are at times broad and of concrete and at times just muddy and unpaved. The excitement begins when the trail gets a little narrower with the sight of dense vegetation, coffee, pepper and other spice plantations. You will be able to witness and enjoy the sight of colourful birds and butterflies and hear them. Trek Routes to Tadiandamol Peak The highest peak in Kodagu offers a fascinating trek to nature lovers. At an elevation of 5740 ft, it takes you through verdant greens of Shola forest, valleys and rivers. The starting point of the trek is at Nalaknad Palace, where large vehicles like buses and tempo travelers can be parked free of cost. There is a motorable road until the viewpoint which is another 2km ahead. Only small vehicles can access this motorable road. The trek to the peak starts from the Forest entry point, where one needs to buy tickets for the trek. The next major point is the big boulder where trekkers usually take a short break to witness a charming view of the surroundings. Beyond the big boulders are the grasslands leading to the silent forest. The pinnacle of the trek is the brilliant forest replete with flora and fauna of varied species. This is a moderate level trek which is 6km one way and takes close to 2-3 hours each side. The trails are broad and chances of getting lost are less.History of Tadiandamol PeakThe third highest mountain peak in Karnataka is extremely popular amongst the tourists. It is adorned with lush Shola forest throughout the valley. The Nalaknad Palace built-in 1792 in the periphery of the mountain has historical relevance. It was used as a site to seek refuge by different rulers during the times of war amongst the neighboring states. For the warrior clans also referred to as the Kodavas the highest peak in Coorg has been a source of inspiration. The stoic warriors were led by the mighty mountain to showcase their valour and strength which has been recorded in the pages of Indian history.

Kumara Parvatha is a group of three peaks namely- Shesha Parvatha, Siddha Parvatha and Kumara Parvatha each of which has its relevance to Hindu mythology. Kumara Parvatha is located in the Subramanya village of Sullia Taluk in South Karnataka and is the choicest destination for trekkers and nature lovers. The trekking trail runs dense through the Shola forest which is home to breath-taking flora and fauna under the canopy of clear blue sky. At some places, the trail is quite strenuous with volcanic rocks, gushing streams and rocky crevices that pose a serious challenge to adrenaline junkies. But nevertheless, the panoramic view of the Western Ghats at the distance makes it a rewarding journey for tourists who are ready to go the extra mile for seeing the wonders of nature from close proximity. Kumara Parvatha trek is also popular among the tourists who wish to visit the place as a distinguished pilgrim site of South India. Some of the religious places of interest in and around Kumara Parvatha are Kukke Subramanya Temple, Sringeri Mutt and Biladwara Cave that have significant religious connotations.Apart from that, there are scenic spots en route Kumara Parvatha where you can halt for overnight camping or rest for a while and sink into the overwhelming serenity of the vast expanse of Madikeri. The Malli Waterfalls, Abbimatta Waterfalls and Pushpagiri Forest Reserve are some of the popular natural attractions that make your rigorous trek all worth it.Trek Routes to Kumara ParvathaThere are two routes accessed by trekkers of Kumara Parvatha depending on their level of fitness and spirit of adventure. One route is from Kukke Subramanya temple which is a moderately difficult climb up to the Shesha Parvatha via Kallu Mandapa. From Shesha Parvatha there are ascends and descends through boulders and grasslands up to the summit. This is a longer route and in between, you will need to stay overnight at the Bhatt's House before starting for the rest of your journey on day 2.A comparatively longer route is from Beedhalli in Somwarpet. This route is slightly challenging even for experienced trekkers but the view you witness along your trek is worth your exhaustion and time. In this route, you will trek along dense Shola forest where you may come across the wild animals and birds and feast your eyes on the beautiful panorama at a distance. Trekkers usually take the Somwarpet route to climb up to the summit of the Kumara Parvath and the Kukke Subramanya route to descend.History of Kumara Parvatha There are a number of folklores that go round this pristine religious and scenic destination of Karnataka and each of them ushers immense curiosity among the believers to undertake an arduous journey up to the summit. According to the popular faith, Lord Kumaraswamy (Subramanya) killed demons like Padmasura and Tarakasura and was crowned as the king atop the Kumara Parvatha. The Lord washed his lethal weapon in the nearby river and hence the name Dharma Teertha. Indra, the king of the gods being pleased by the valour of Kumaraswamy asked for his hand in marriage with his daughter Devasena. The marriage between Lord Kumaraswamy and Devasena took place on the bank of Kumaradhara.Another story depicts Vasuki, the divine serpent was once threatened by Garuda (mount of Lord Vishnu/Venkateshwara). In order to save himself from the clutches of Garuda, Vasuki performed rigorous worship in the caves of Kukke Subramanya temple. Lord Shiva being pleased with his follower's devotion sent his son Karthikeyan (Murugan) to protect Vasuki from Garuda. It is believed that Karthikeyan visited Kumara Parvatha where Vasuki was worshipping and blessed him assuring his protection from all evils.

Madikeri Fort

Madikeri Fort has been a popular tourist attraction to witness the lives, rise and fall of several glorious rulers and dynasty. Founded by Mudduraja in the second half of the 17th century and constructed in mud, it finally took shape in granite and has stood testimony to several incidents. It is a coming together of several religions and an amalgamation of different cultures and traditions.A Fort with a temple, Church, prison, Museum and library is pretty intriguing, especially to history lovers. Different rulers from majestic dynasties have constructed and reconstructed the Fort time and again and used it in a way they felt was justified. Located amidst rolling mountains and lush greenery, one can spend hours inside the Fort looking for artefacts mentioned in the pages of history.Currently, the Madikeri Deputy Commissioner's Office is located inside the Fort premises. St. Mark’s Church built during the British regime houses a museum, which contains several interesting items related to history. It showcases a huge portrait of Coorg's eminent personality Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, weapons and tools used by the different rulers and the British along with several other interesting objects. It is one of the best places to visit in Coorg and the beauty and culture of Coorg have been defined in a historical monument, The Madikeri Fort. The two-storied heritage property built by the erstwhile ruler of Kodagu has undergone several changes both structurally and functionally. A Fort built-in mud housing a beautiful Palace, that too made in mud to a Church adorned with stained glass and done up in Gothic style built by the British.Tipu Sultan further fortified the monument in granite and used it for official and leisurely activities. While the British made a museum adjoining the Church, made further changes and showcased various objects and artefacts used during the different transactions amongst the rulers.Book & Checkout - Coorg Tour PackagesHistory of Madikeri Fort The history of Madikeri Fort dates back to the 17th century when the erstwhile king of Coorg, Mudduraja had made Madikeri the capital city of Kodagu. Initially, the fort was built with mud with along with a palace too made with mud inside the fort premises. The fort has born the brunt of several rulers thus undergoing demolitions and reconstruction time and again over a few centuries. It was also rebuilt by Tipusultan in granite and named the site as Jaffarabad and renamed the fort as Meraca Fort. In 1790 Dodda Vira Rajendra added to the architectural beauty of the Fort and then again by the Britishers in 1834. St. Mark’s Church built in 1859 is housed inside the Fort and has a museum built inhouse. The Architecture of Madikeri FortThe colossal Fort built against the backdrop of verdant mountains and an open sky reminisces one of an era bygone. The Fort, constructed in granite has been built in European style with elaborate pillars and checkered floor patterns. The two life-size statues of elephants at the entrance must have stod testimony to several rivalry and wars.St. Mark’s Church, in glass stained Gothic style replaced the old Vidarbha temple inside the fort also under the British rule. A grand clock tower was strategically placed to the exuberance of the fort in 1933. A sculpture of tortoise, with the name of King Vijayendra, engraved on it sits adorned upon to welcome the history aficionados. The grand architecture of the fort is not only the pride of the Kodagu region but has also attracted visitors from several parts of the world. The secret labyrinth of alleys and passes inside the fort gives way to mysterious stories associated with them which too must have seen gory and secret stories hidden within the walls.

We therefore were very stressed and disappointed. I hope they improve their communication. It negatively impacted our trip. Barely apologized. Very unprofessional, amateurish and disappointed. When I called no one picked up the phone number given in the booking receipt. Anyway I went to the meeting point mentioned in the booking receipt at the given time. The guide did not turn up. Somehow I managed to get in touch with them then the guide refused to come to the location mentioned in the booking receipt and wanted me to come somewhere else. By this time I had lost trust in them. So I told them I wanted a refund as there was a no-show from their side at the given time and location. After this they stopped picking my calls. As a tourist, it was a very jarring experience and I ended up wasting an evening because of this. And I still haven’t got any refund. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Read more Written September 10, 2022
