ALBUM TOUR ANNOUNCED
August 23, 2018 | NEWS
Following hot on the heels of last month’s exciting album reveal, Brisbane favourites Dead Letter Circus have now announced a huge summer tour to accompany and dropped a brand new piece of music.
Kicking off in November, the Dead Letter Circus Album Tour will see the band bring their fierce live set to stages across Bunbury, Margaret River and Perth, through to Adelaide and Canberra and the east coast – with regional shows in between. These dates will be the first run of shows since the band’s small intimate club run back in June.
“We’re so psyched to finally give this album over to the people” says frontman Kim Benzie. Taking all these new songs on the road to some of our favourite places in Australia will be a blast! This is the beginning of a whole new chapter for the DLC family and we can’t wait!”
Tickets for the tour will go on sale Thursday, August 30 at 9.00am . All tickets include a digital copy of the brand new self-titled album released on September 21 st . See TOURS section for dates.
NEW SINGLE & INTIMATE WINTER TOUR
April 16, 2018 | NEWS
It’s a big day for Dead Letter Circus fans. The band have just announced details for their brand new single ‘The Armour You Own’ plus a small and intimate run of live shows in support. ‘The Armour You Own’ is the first new piece of original music from Dead Letter Circus since 2015’s Aesthesis. It also sees a welcomed return to their amplifiers after 2017’s The Endless Mile – a stripped and acoustic reimagination of songs from the Brisbane five-piece’s career. The single is lead by crunching guitar riffs, driving rhythms and showcases frontman Kim Benzie’s soaring signature vocals over huge hooks. The song was produced by the duo of Forrester Savell (Karnivool) and Matt Bartlem (Jarryd James, Matt Corby) and while its sonically impressive – the lyrics underlie an important message. Benzie explains further..
“The Armour You Own spawned from guiding someone important in my life through a bout of anxiety. The constant musing around flipping your moments of fragility into opportunities for growth. TAYO is the perfect vessel for this message – it’s a pulsing confident riff-monster, whilst dripping with positivity.”
Dead Letter Circus will make a triumphant return to the national stage for a handful of intimate live shows in support of the song. The ‘Armour You Own’ single tour will kick off on May 31 at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and take in major cities like Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Fremantle. The band will be match fit, having just wrapped up shows with American supergroup Prophets Of Rage on their recent Australian visit.
Tickets for the ‘Armour You Own’ tour are on sale at 9.00am, April 20. With limited capacity at each of these venues, tickets are expected to be snapped up quick.

Five things
Deadletter frontman zac lawrence maps out the band’s artistic references.
“ Binge was written in no more than 25 minutes during rehearsals for a tour in January,” says Deadletter frontman Zac Lawrence of the band’s latest track. Intuitive and energetic – these are the core tenets that root the five-piece’s pulsing, rhythmic sound. Living up to its name, the song is incredibly moreish, full of pinging riffs – à la Talking Heads – droll vocals, cowbell beats and chanting harmonies. It’s Max’s Kansas City in SE15, it’s Gang of Four with an extra member.
The track follows a stellar beginning for the band, between previous superb track releases – Hero , Fit For Work , Line The Cows – and sell-out tour dates, and even an appearance at Hedi Slimane ‘s Celine SS23 afterparty alongside Gustaf and Cumgirl8 (check out the band’s HERO Instagram takeover from the front row). Currently, the band are somewhere between Leicester and Margate as part of an extensive UK and EU tour that culminates in a performance at Rotterdam’s Left Of The Dial festival in late-October. On the road, frontman Zac found the time to run us through five points of inspiration: Deadletter-certified.
Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues, 1985
“The frenzy and fury that The Pogues embodied and Shane Macgowan’s ability to cram more syllables into a line than you’d think possible are all traits I try to display in my own music.”
Rum, Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues
Good Bye Lenin ! by Wolfgang Becker, 2003
“Watching the film as a young teenager I was compelled not only by the beautiful storytelling, but by the political themes; politics being a subject I had little interest in before then.”
Still, Good Bye Lenin! by Wolfgang Becker, 2003
Grapes Of Wrath by John Steinbeck, 1939
“The description in the opening pages made my hairs stand on end – for the first time with literature. It was this book that inspired me to rethink the way I might weave words to create mesmerising imagery.”
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
“During the pandemic, having to move back to the small town where I grew up instilled a drive in me to create like never before, due to the repetitiveness and mundanity of day-to-day life. I suppose, as well, all of my ideas began here.”
Thinking About Death by Frida Kahlo, 1943
“I was shown this painting when I was quite young and didn’t come across it again for quite a long time, however I have found myself thinking about it throughout my adolescence at random intervals. I like how literal the painting is, and I think it helped me to see that sometimes being figurative isn’t necessarily imperative to a strong statement.”

Get To Know Get To Know… DEADLETTER
With new track ‘fall of the big screen’ out now, meet the south london-via-yorkshire post-punk outfit..
21st January 2021
Hello and welcome to DIY’s introducing feature, Get To Know… getting you a little bit closer to the buzziest new acts that have been catching our eye as of late, and working out what makes them tick.
Recently we’ve met Compton-born artist Channel Tres , vibey newbies NewDad , Dhaka-born Dameer , Oklahoma duo Sports , and now we’re introducing you to South London-via-Yorkshire post-punk outfit DEADLETTER .
After making an impact with 2020 debut single ‘Good Old Days’ and follow up ‘Fit For Work’, they’re now sharing sizzling new track ‘Fall of the Big Screen’. As frontman Zac Lawrence notes, “As streaming services became household names, there was little doubt in anyone’s minds that they were the future. Thousands of films, documentaries, and series alike, right there at the click of a button. No more will the cinema be regarded as the entertainment giant it once was. Just like its’ musical cousin, the independent venues that hold big screens and popcorn machines are slowly but surely evaporating. Who needs to make the choice and effort of how and when to be entertained, when Mr Bezos and Mr Hastings have presented you with all you can ask for from the comfort of your own living room? We have swapped theatrical experience for ease of access.
“We are being sold free choice at the click of a button when in reality our options are shrinking as monopolistic corporations haunt every item of consumption, as we are algorithmically given a narrow margin of preference which blinds us to any true alternative. The Fall of the Big Screen is imminent, and this is our cry of understanding.”
An exciting glimpse at what DEADLETTER have got in store for us this year, we sent them over some qs to get to know them a lil’ better.
Describe your music to us in the form of a Tinder bio. Dry, flammable songs, fairly woody, used for lighting fires.
What’s your earliest musical memory? Sitting in my high chair noshing marmite sandwiches screaming about toilet seats whilst my mother blasted ‘Toiler On The Sea’ by The Stranglers (How would a 2 year old know what a toiler was?)
Who were some artists that inspired you when you were just starting out (and why)? I can remember becoming infatuated with John Cooper Clarke when I was about 15. I think his acerbic Northern delivery slotted perfectly alongside my angsty teenage brain. The same can be said for Mark E Smith. I’d put ‘Twat’ on in my room and write out the lyrics as JCC spoke them in the hope of being able to one day recite it at a dinner or a family gathering. Alas, I’m still to be presented with an opportunity to do so. Hopefully one of my nearest and dearest will have a child soon and I can ruin the christening.
You’re from Yorkshire and are now based in South London! What do you think of the music scenes there at the moment? I’m not going to lie and say I particularly know what’s going on in Yorkshire at the moment. We fucking love Yard Act , so I suppose that’s something to be said about the scene up there? In terms of South London, the “scene” is hanging on by a mere thread. There are seemingly endless new bands coming through, which is great, but there remain few venues in which the music can actually take place. The Windmill, which we refer to as “The Old Trusty” has just about managed to hold it together through the pandemic thanks to the fully deserved support of artists and fans alike all over the country. It wouldn’t really be a viable option for it to close down. Without that place, there wouldn’t be a “South London Scene.” When it comes down to it though, I don’t particularly think music scenes are a thing anymore. It’s more so a collection of bands who happen to play at the same venue, but don’t necessarily share too much characteristically, bar a frontperson with ego problems and a severe lack of funding.
Are there any other artists breaking through at the same time that you take inspiration from? I’ve always been of the view that to go forwards, one must not look around, but behind. Take what you will from that.
Who would be your dream collaborator? I think David Byrne would be incredible. I got his book “Arboretum” for Christmas, and my god is that man interesting. His formulae and theory could definitely help us to produce something magical. Alternatively, 4 minute instrumental with Shane Macgowan screeching every so often might produce a far more appropriate tune for our catalogue.
Musically or otherwise, what are you most looking forward to this year? Without jinxing it, playing a gig to an audience of people who are not sat at tables? That’s all one can really hope for at the moment. Visa free travel for British musicians in the EU would be wonderful too, but maybe I’m pushing it now.
If people could take away one thing from your music, what would it be? Say what you see, don’t be afraid to express a vehement opinion, and never let someone else’s views make your own seem worthless.

Aerosmith farewell tour is back on with new L.A. date, months after Steven Tyler injury

Don’t want to miss a thing from Aerosmith’s farewell tour? The rock group’s fans are in luck.
Aerosmith announced Wednesday that its Peace Out tour is officially back on, with an updated slate of shows — including three Southern California stops — set to kick off in September. The rock group’s tour launched early last September, but was quickly put on hold after frontman Steven Tyler injured his vocal cords.
Less than a month into its Peace Out circuit, Aerosmith announced in a September 2023 statement that Tyler’s injury — a fractured larynx — was “more serious than initially thought.” As a result, the group said it would postpone its remaining stops until 2024.
Steven Tyler’s vocal injury ‘more serious than initially thought,’ rest of Aerosmith tour postponed
Steven Tyler’s vocal injury is ‘more serious than initially thought’ and has forced Aerosmith to postpone the remaining 2023 dates of the Peace Out tour.
Sept. 29, 2023
“I promise we will be back as soon as we can,” Tyler, 76, said in a missive shared to the group’s Facebook page last year.
The Grammy-winning “Dream On” group will relaunch the remainder of its tour Sept. 20, with a newly added show at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena. The group also added a Sept. 23 concert at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
In the winter, Aerosmith will rock its way to California for shows in San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles. First, the “Walk This Way” group will play San Francisco’s Chase Center on Nov. 30, then San Jose’s SAP Center on Dec. 4 and Inglewood’s Kia Forum on Dec. 7, almost exactly a year later than initially scheduled.
Aerosmith postpones a month of shows because of Steven Tyler’s latest ailment
Steven Tyler damaged his vocal cords just as Aerosmith launched its Peace Out farewell tour, resulting in the band rescheduling six shows for 2024.
Sept. 12, 2023
The Peace Out tour is now scheduled to end on Feb. 26, 2025, at the Keybank Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The full list of tour dates can be found on Aerosmith’s website .
For all shows except its first one back, Aerosmith will be joined by “Remedy” rockers the Black Crowes, now on their own headlining tour behind a new album, “Happiness Bastards,” and playing L.A.’s Greek Theatre on Friday.
On top of his vocal injury, Tyler was sued in November 2023 for allegedly kissing and groping a teenage girl twice in 1975 when he was 27 and she was 17. In February, a U.S. district judge dismissed the lawsuit.
“We agree with the judge’s reasoning, and are grateful for this result on behalf of our client,” David Long-Daniels, a lawyer for Tyler, told Reuters in February.

Steven Tyler, Aerosmith announce rescheduled farewell concert tour: New dates and ticket info
Aerosmith will be back in the saddle again this fall.
The veteran rockers, who postponed their Peace Out farewell tour after only a few shows in September, will return for a 40-date run starting Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh. The tour wraps Feb. 26, 2025 in Buffalo, NY.
The bulk of the dates are rescheduled, but the band added three cities: Pittsburgh, Orlando and Philadelphia, where their goodbye run kicked off last September.
All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates, while tickets for the new shows will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time April 12 via ticketmaster.com . For those who previously purchased tickets and cannot attend the rescheduled concerts, refunds will be available at point of purchase. A series of VIP packages are also available at aerosmith.com/VIP.
As with the original dates, The Black Crowes will open for Aerosmith.
More: Aerosmith Peace Out: See the setlist for the iconic band's farewell tour
Why did Aerosmith postpone their farewell tour?
After playing only a handful of concerts in September, the “Walk This Way” heroes had to hit pause after singer Steven Tyler damaged his vocal cords. He also fractured his larynx and was given doctor’s orders not to sing for 30 days.
But Aerosmith opted to give Tyler ample time to recuperate and scuttle all of their shows until 2024.
The wiry frontman known for his searing rock yowls, said at the time that the injury occurred at a Sept. 10 show in New York and that the vocal cord damage “led to subsequent bleeding.”
What songs can fans expect to hear at Aerosmith’s farewell shows?
USA TODAY was there for opening night of the Peace Out tour Sept. 3 in Philadelphia. As the tour is also a celebration of the band’s 50 years in the music industry, the setlist reflected their vast catalog.
The band – Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton and guitarist Brad Whitford, along with drummer John Douglas filling in for Joey Kramer – sounded in peak form for their deserved victory lap.
Songs ranged from singalong rock smashes “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Sweet Emotion” and “Rag Doll” to the rarely played album track “Adam’s Apple” and a dip into Aerosmith’s blues roots with “Hangman Jury.”

Lost Robert Hunter Manuscript Chronicling Birth of the Grateful Dead to Be Released
- By Angie Martoccio
Angie Martoccio
It’s a good day for Deadheads: Robert Hunter ‘s lost manuscript is headed for publication.
The Grateful Dead lyricist — who penned gems like “Ripple,” “Box of Rain,” “Uncle John’s Band,” “Eyes of the World,” “Dark Star,” and more — died in 2019. Five years later, Hachette Books will release The Silver Snarling Trumpet: The Birth of the Grateful Dead — The Lost Manuscript of Robert Hunter , out Oct. 8.
Unearthed by Hunter’s widow, Maureen, Silver Snarling Trumpet chronicles the origin of the Grateful Dead in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hunter, who met and befriended Jerry Garcia in 1961, travels along with the band to coffee shops, Kepler’s Books, and more.

The news of the manuscript arrives on the same day that Rhino announced an archival series of Hunter’s solo catalog. They’ll launch it with a reissue if 1974’s Tales of the Great Rum Runners , out June 7 in honor of its 50th anniversary. The deluxe reissue contains 16 previously unreleased tracks and outtakes.
Almost a decade ago, Rolling Stone sat down with Hunter at his home in San Rafael, California. “I think writing for the Dead was the best thing I could’ve done,” he told us. “In fact, I remember at a certain point thinking, ‘What was I thinking about being a novelist? This is where it’s at.'”
