All about the Dubai Canal

Dubai Canal is a 3.2-kilometre-long man-made canal running through the UAE’s most famous highway, Sheikh Zayed Road . Inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco, this waterfront destination has become a major tourist attraction in Dubai.

This 6.4km waterfront beauty comes with a 3km running track, 12km cycling track and a mechanical waterfall at the intersection of the Sheikh Zayed Road bridge and the canal. There are also five pedestrian bridges, of which three run across the canal. This way, visitors can easily cross over and enjoy the stunning sights from the top of the bridge. Very close to the rental apartments in Business Bay , the development of Al Habtoor City is set along the banks of the Dubai Canal.

As an extension of the famous Deira Creek, the Dubai Canal is divided into three networks: The Water Network, Green Network and Public Realm. 

The Water Network

The water network of the canal comprises three water bodies covering 2.9 km and connecting Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf. The Arabian Gulf coastline has a beautiful beachfront. The final part of the canal is the Crystal Lagoon at Safa Park.

The Green Network

This network connects Safa Park to the new Jumeirah Beach Park.

The Public Realm

This is the surrounding area around the canal which is being developed. Some projects are completed, while others are under construction. There are many restaurants and recreational facilities nearby.

Dubai Canal Bridge

Also known as the Business Bay Crossing, this bridge has gained global popularity. It is the first of its kind worldwide and covers the width of the Business Bay Canal, connecting Business Bay with Downtown Dubai. The project includes two pedestrian walkways and a three-lane roadway on both sides of the canal.

With a height of 21m above water level, it allows most yachts and ships to pass underneath. The total length is 442m, and the width is 24m.

Dubai Canal Dhow Cruise

An abra is an ancient Emirati mode of transportation. It has been used by Emiratis for generations and represents the heritage of the United Arab Emirates. It is, therefore, a novel experience for tourists.

Abra tours also start and end at Dubai Festival City Mall. However, the route differs from the Dubai Canal Dhow Cruise. As you move through the canal, you will see the Ras Al Khor Sanctuary, Business Bay, Westin and St. Regis Hotel, Burj Khalifa, Business Bay Bridge, JW Marriott Marquis Hotel and Sheikh Zayed Road Waterfall Bridge.

If you are near the Business Bay end of the Canal, Al Habtoor City is fairly close to the area. The restaurants here are great for refuelling after a long walk. Alternatively, the restaurants in Jumeirah are also easily accessible if you are closer to the Safa side of the canal. Here are some of the eclectic options near the area.

What are the Dubai Water Canal timings?

There are no opening or closing timings for the Dubai Canal. However, the beautiful Dubai Canal waterfall operates from 08:00 pm to 10:00 pm. It has motion sensors which stop when a boat or abra comes within range.

If this is your first Dubai Canal tour, visiting and witnessing the waterfall would be advisable. It might be a little crowded, but you won’t regret it. Take our word for it!

Do I have to buy a ticket to visit the Dubai Canal?

No, there are no tickets. It is a great place to come and relax.

How do I reach Dubai Water Canal?

Different transport options could take you to the Dubai Water Canal. If you want to take your car, drive towards the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Al Habtoor City exit will take you to the parking on the Business Bay end. If you are on the Jumeirah side, there is parking along the residential areas. 

Regarding Dubai Metro stations, get down at the Business Bay station and walk towards Sheikh Zayed Road Bridge. Take the lift to start your Dubai Canal Tour. Cabs are also readily available in the area.

Is Dubai Canal parking free or paid?

Parking is available under the Sheikh Zayed Road Bridge. However, please keep in mind canal parking is paid. You can pay via SMS, and the charges depend on how long you stay.

Can I cycle or skate on the Marasi Business Bay Promenade?

Yes, visitors may cycle or skate on the Marasi Business Bay Promenade. One bridge has a concrete slope, so you can ride or push your cycle across the canal. There is a running track, so you can burn extra calories too.

You can visit the canal all year round. It is especially enjoyable during winter as you can walk along the pathway while enjoying the cool breeze. The fact that it is one of the top free places to visit in Dubai makes it an extremely popular destination in the city. If you are searching for another cool place to visit, the Pointe in Palm Jumeirah could be an excellent option.

How Long Dubai Water Canal?

Dubai water canal is the newest AED 2.7 billion human-made island in Dubai that connects Business Bay to Safa Park. Dubai Water Canal, 3.2 km long waterway, completed in 2017. Beginning at the Dubai Creek, the canal runs through the Shaikh Zayed Road, Passing along the Safa Park and Jumeirah District, it connects with the Arabian Gulf. One thing that blew up my mind was when a boat comes near to the waterfall bridge, waterfall sensors sense it and the waterfall stop for a while and let the ship pass under the bridge.

The views along the water canal are mesmerizing, and these fantastic exhibits can be enjoyed either by taking an abra ride or a dhow cruise across the canal. The abra rides are shorter and if you are looking for a more enlightening experience, take a dhow cruise across those tranquil waters full of delights.

Dubai Water Canal Cruise Timing

The  dhow cruise  begins and ends at the same  location  every day. The passengers board the dhow at the pier near the Festival City Mall at 7:30 p.m. The  cruise  starts at 8:00 p.m. daily and ends at 10:00 p.m. while the boarding time is 7:30 p.m.

The dhow is a modernized version of a traditional dhow to showcase the glitz and the glamour of the city. The unique glass-enclosed cruise ship will give you the experience of a lifetime. The luxurious ride gives you a view of the enchanting sights of the city, coupled with a sufficient dining experience. You could not have asked for more! While you are gliding across the gently lapping waves of the waterway, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful, glittering skyline of the city of lights.

What Does the Cruise Encompass?

The 2-hour cruise holds plenty for both the young and the old. The delights consist of breathtaking views along the canal combined with onboard entertainment. 

Onboard entertainment:

There are no official rules for  Dubai Dhow Cruise dinner  menu. Every tour operator has its own rules, and they charge you accordingly. As you step onboard the stylish dhow, you will be served with a delicious, hot drink. There is a traditional Arabic coffee known as ‘Kahwah’ much enjoyed by the locals. The welcoming drink is accompanied by soothing Arabic music that will play in the background while sailing over the waters, complementing the journey beautifully. Chilled refreshments and dates will then follow the Kahwah.

You will be escorted to your table, where a three-course dinner awaits you. The dinner is quite extravagant and commences with cream of tomato soup preceded by starters, which consist of bite-sized chicken kebabs (round patty-shaped), potato and cheese croquettes which served with tomato ketchup.

Then there is the salad bar for your offering:

A live cooking station will be offering either pasta with condiments or roasted lamb rack with a selection of sauces.

• Fresh fruit salad and new fruit display

Meanwhile, the Tanoura Dancers will keep you engaged with a couple of dances as you indulge in the delectable meal. The Tanoura dance is a folkloric dance where the dancers, dressed in colourful skirts swirl around in whirling motions. You might even get the chance to let your inner dancer break free there.

Behold the Sparkling City 

While there is much on board to admire, the attractive sights surrounding the canal will be a special treat for your eyes. As the dhow sails gently on, you get to witness the world’s tallest tower Burj al-Khalifa, the Business Bay Bridge, Safa Park, Dubai Festival City Mall, Westin Hotel, JW Marquis Hotel. There are five pedestrian bridges on the canal all spectacularly lit, and as the dhow drifts underneath the Sheikh Zayed road bridge you will find yourself enthralled by the illuminated waterfalls. These mechanically operated waterfalls have motion sensors installed so that any passing boats or Abras can be detected in time to stop the waterfalls and let the sailing vessels through. But, be warned, when you’ll be passing under them, you shall continuously feel the dread of the waterfalls resuming while you’re still in the way (though such a case has never occurred, not publicly at least). There is just so much to feast your eyes on that there cannot be a single moment of boredom.

Dubai Water Canal Ticket Cost

The tickets can be obtained at the boarding place. However, if you wish to pre-order that is obviously better to avoid subsequent hassle and disappointment at the last moment. .The rates vary starting from 150 AED. Adults are charged a higher and are considered to be above the age of 8 while tickets for children under 3 years of age are free of charge. The children must always be accompanied by adults.

The Dubai Water Canal Cruise drop-off location will be the same as the pick-up location that is the pier near Dubai Festival City Mall.

How to Go to the Dubai Water Canal?

Since  Dubai water canal is still not famous so lots of peoples have no idea how to go Dubai water canal. Listed below are two best option to get there.

The most effective way to arrive at the Canal by car is to go on the side of Shaikh Zayed Road in the direction towards the Dubai World Trade Centre. Well before even getting to the newly raised area of the highway, there is an exit that is next to St. Regis Hotel. Take this exit that will get you underneath Shaikh Zayed Road and you are able to park your car beneath the bridge. Car parking fees apply.

Regardless of which part of the city you are, grab the Metro on the way to UAE Exchange MS and drop off at Business Bay. Cross the bridge towards the other side of the road and step towards the Shaikh Zayed Road Bridge. There will be a lift beside the walkway and this will take you directly into the centre of the Canal.

We went on the buggy’s, which was an amazing experience. Alam stayed with us the whole way and even helped us bargain to ensure we got the best prices. Alam had then commenced the jeep safari which was a mesmerising experience from start to finish. Alam also made sure we had the best photo opportunities and even took them himself!! Which saved us a couple of pennies. We then ended the night at the camp which was held by a number of exciting show. The whole experience was amazing from start to finish. Yes, there are parking facilities available near the Dubai Marina Cruise departure point. Various parking options, including paid parking lots and designated parking spaces, are conveniently located within walking distance. It’s recommended to arrive early to secure a parking spot, especially during peak hours or busy weekends.

Reaching Dubai Canal Cruise is accessible by Metro train, taxi and Public bus. If you want to go by bus, install S’hail app to plan your trip. Currently, RTA water taxi has no route towards the cruise.

You can visit Water Canal Cruise by taking the Dubai Metro green line towards Creek. Leave the train at the second last terminal, “Al Jadaf Metro Station.”

Canal Cruise takes its guests on-board at 8:00 pm and leaves back to the boarding point at 10:30 pm.

A continental buffet dinner is arranged for guests on the Canal Dhow cruise. BBQ dishes and veg curries are also part of the menu. Unlimited soft drinks, tea and coffee is also served.

Free parking is available next to Canal cruise departure point. Navigate your car in-front of the Jameel Arts Centre to park your car.

Creek Dhow cruise is accessible by Dubai Metro by Union and Baniyas metro stations. It’s better to take a public bus after metro because there is 600m walking distance.

Dubai creek dhow cruise has a trip of two hours. It usually starts at 8:30 pm and ends at 10:30 pm.
