DISCOVER SRI LANKA

DISCOVER SRI LANKA. We have just returned from 2 weeks discovering Sri Lanka with a fantastic guide, Roshan. As well as visiting temples and historic sites, we had a couple of game drives, a cycling trip through local villages, tried white-water rafting, walked to the World's End and 3 of us climbed Adam's Peak. I think it was the variety of activities, together with Roshan's knowledge of all things Sri Lankan, that made this one of the best Exodus trips we have been on. Accommodation and food was excellent too and the swimming pools very welcoming after a busy day's fun and activity!

Fabulous time in Northern Finland with Exodus Adventures

Loved everything about this trip…..staff, our guide, accommodation, food, activities, fellow travellers, weather, the provided winter clothing and the location. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly as were the rest of the staff. The farewell dinner was delicious and the musical part of the evening was very enjoyable. I was very glad that this fun trip exceeded my expectations. Canadian visitor.

India Tiger Safari

Just had an amazing trip with Exodus to India, where in a small group with an excellent guide we went to 3 National Parks in the hope of seeing tigers in the wild. We were not disappointed. I saw 2 leopards and 22 tigers in the 2 weeks and lots more wildlife that India has to offer. There are guarantees when it comes to sightings, however lucky for us tigers can be creatures of habit and the guides and drivers know where to look, and are brilliant at spotting all other kinds of wildlife. So if you go don't just focus on tigers, there is so much more, be prepared for getting up early too. However there is enough time to have a nap before the afternoon drive.

Reply from Exodus Adventure Travels

Thanks for your review, Lynn, that's amazing you saw so many tigers! We agree that there is much more to this trip, not just the leopards but so much other wildlife, and the parks themselves are stunning. You're right that it's never guaranteed, but it's great to hear the local guides did such a good job of taking you to the most likely spots and demonstrated their incredible spotting skills!

Botswana and Zimbabwe Lodge Safari

Just returned from Botswana and Zimbabwe Lodge Safari which was thoroughly enjoyable, and brilliant for mammals and birds. Highlights included walking safaris; on one we got really close to two white rhinos. We saw lions with cubs, and literally hundreds of elephants. Bird life is prolific. Our guide and driver were excellent, and our minibus very comfortable. The lodges were in lovely surroundings, some with wildlife viewing. Viewing Victoria Falls was another highlight and I would recommend going over to Zambia on the final free day.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, Christopher. We're delighted to hear that you had a wonderful time on your holiday and had the opportunity to see such a diverse group of wildlife during your stay – 3 of the Big Five! We’re pleased that you had a positive experience with our staff and enjoyed the views around your accommodation. We hope that we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you back on another Exodus adventure in the future!

I have been on numerous escorted…

I have been on numerous escorted holidays with Exodus over the last 20 years as a solo traveller. This latest trip to Belize/Guatemala/Caye Caulker was excellent (as they have all been in my experience). Our main guide Jorge was brilliant. He looked after us so well and I felt safe at at all times. A really well run trip. Lots of birding, wildlife, river trips, Mayan temples, tubing, snorkelling - great range of activities. Do not be afraid to travel solo-with Exodus you are in safe hands.

Date of experience : March 16, 2024

Thank you for your review, Claire. We’re thrilled that you’ve enjoyed the wide range of activities on your holiday, particularly that you felt safe on your trip with us. The safety of our clients is extremely important to us and we’re truly happy that Jorge was able to create a positive experience for you. We look forward to welcoming you on many more adventures with us in the future!

This is the fourth time we have booked…

This is the fourth time we have booked a trip with Exodus and we are always really impressed. The amount of planning and organization that makes these trips so enjoyable and interesting is huge. Our recent trip to Kerala lived up to their excellent reputation once again. Our guide was second to none!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Mrs W. We’re delighted to hear that you’ve had another extraordinary holiday with us and that you enjoyed the company of your local guide. We hope to welcome you on many more adventures with us in the future!

Wonderful experience with fantastic guide.

What a brilliant company. I had the most amazing time on the Ancient and Modern Japan trip. Our guide was fantastic. Caring, helpful, sympathetic - simply brilliant. He followed the Itinerary to the tee. My only downside was I would have liked more help from Exodus regarding the taking in of Medication to Japan as they are strict. It was a minefield and took me a long time to fathom out with the help of Goodle if my regular medication (asthma inhaler, blood pressure pills, anti-histamine pills) were acceptable. I did ask for help, but was given links to various sites, but they were confusing and unclear to navigate. However, I do thoroughly recommend this company, and I hope to use them again one day.

Thank you for your review, Chrissy. We're sorry that you felt we could have been more helpful regarding taking medication into Japan; as you've mentioned, this can be quite tricky to navigate as the authorities are strict on what can be imported. Generally we find that by giving customers guidance on where to find the relevant information works well, so it's a matter of regret you didn't find this as helpful as you'd have expected. We've passed this on to the team who oversee our Japan trips for them to bear in mind moving forward. On a more positive note, we are really pleased to hear you had such a wonderful trip, and in particular that your tour leader did a great job. We do hope we'll be able to welcome you on another holiday sometime in the not too distant future.

Excellent trip re Amalfi Coastal Walk…

Excellent trip re Amalfi Coastal Walk with Veriano — our guide and leader. Path of the Gods was truly heavenly. Everything about the trip (except the accommodation) was good. Our guide was truly excellent, food and wine — in the hotel was good, but the room was cramped and bathroom awful. Transport was good too and we had a lot of free time to explore the area.

Date of experience : March 30, 2024

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, Raj. We’re delighted that you’ve had an amazing time on your holiday with us and enjoyed the company of your guide. We’re sorry to hear that you did not feel your accommodation was up to standard. We generally receive good reviews of the hotel, so it saddens us to learn that this was not your experience. We hope that we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you back on another Exodus adventure in the future!

First Exodus Trip - A Good Beginning

our first trip with Exodus and a very positive experience. in a short period a good view of Puglia- and the other attendees, regular Exodus customers, were a very positive component of the trip. The leader was also very good - however our first trip and we cannot take any comment on general leadership quality. Descriptive materials accurate and helpful.

Date of experience : April 05, 2024

We are happy to read of your positive experience with Exodus, and trust that you have gathered some wonderful memories of Puglia. We hope to welcome you on to another Exodus adventure soon.

A cut above

While there are many travel companies that offer similar products, Exodus is just a cut above. The staff are knowledgeable and, always, helpful and friendly and the range of holidays on offer is top notch. Very responsive to queries and requests. Have travelled with them many times and have to say I keep coming back.

Date of experience : March 19, 2024

We greatly appreciate your continued support and lovely review, Gail! It's fantastic to hear that you've had consistently positive experiences with Exodus. Our team works hard to provide knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive service, and we're thrilled that you've found our range of holidays to be top-notch. Thank you for your loyalty, and we look forward to welcoming you on many more Exodus adventures in the future!

Excellent staff

A great selection of holidays. Professional and friendly staff gave me confidence to book the holiday with no worries

Efficient organisation throughout

Efficient organisation throughout, everyone I encountered from the company was friendly and helpful. The trip was busy, varied, full of interesting experiences and information. The guide was excellent in terms of organisation and giving fascinating insights into history and culture. This was the first time I have been on an organised group trip, I wasn't sure it would be for me, but I am converted and will definitely be doing it again!

Thank you for wonderful feedback, Sarah. We are heartened to read that you had a positive experience throughout. We certainly hope to welcome you back onto another Exodus adventure in the future.

Arctic Circle Aurora Adventure tour

There were so many highlights of this tour besides the beautiful Northern Lights. The Sami cultural experiences were really interesting and the long reindeer sleigh ride across the silent snowy landscape was just beautiful. It was also really interesting to hear from Lars our kindly host about living alongside wolves and bears. The experiences were within walking distance so it really felt "away from it all" (though the wifi was great if you needed it). The padded suits provided worked well and no one felt the cold. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves the great outdoors.

We're delighted to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your trip to the Arctic, and that you found there to be so many highlights on the tour; we hope you came home with some amazing memories! Thank you for taking the time to review your experience - we're looking forward to welcoming you back on another Exodus adventure when you travel again!

Worth the wait : cities, desert, mountains, sea

We were originally booked for Highlights of Morocco In Comfort in the autumn but decided to postpone after the earthquake as we were keen to visit the High Atlas when it became possible. At all stages Exodus kept us fully informed. We have just completed the full tour as originally advertised and it was worth the wait. The only issue was that it coincided with Ramadan: cafes closed in the daytime, time restricted access to religious sites etc. Our guide (Lahcen) did a great job negotiating around the restrictions and we really feel we've seen a lot of Morocco and its culture, staying in lovely traditional riads and eating local food.

Date of experience : March 10, 2024

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're glad to hear that despite the challenges of Ramadan, you had a wonderful time exploring Morocco and its culture on our Highlights of Morocco In Comfort tour. Lahcen sounds like a fantastic guide, and we're delighted that he was able to navigate around the restrictions to ensure you had a fulfilling experience. It's great to know that you enjoyed staying in traditional riads and experiencing local cuisine. We appreciate your flexibility and patience, and we hope to welcome you on another Exodus adventure soon!

The trip was just fantastic

The trip was just fantastic. Well organised in the beginning, with updates about what to take, what to expect, etc. All activities were as described and the husky sledding and reindeer experience were way beyond my expectations as we got involved in their care and feeding too. Saw the northern lights most nights which was superb.

We're thrilled to hear that you had such a great time on your trip, Linda. Seeing the Northern Lights on most of the nights of the tour is a real bit of luck and must have been spectacular! Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts about your trip - we really appreciate it.

A great way to see Costa Rica

I’ve just returned from an Adventure Trip to Costa Rica with Exodus. We travelled around a 1000 miles from San Jose covering the Caribbean side through the Cloud forest to the Pacific side. We saw so many beautiful birds and animals as well as experiencing a Tropical Rain Forest, Cloud Forest & Dry Forest. We saw two volcanoes, a pineapple farm, coffee farm and visited an organic farm. The activities were varied from trips in boats to zip wiring, tubing down the river and a hot spring where we were covered in volcanic mud! The places we stayed were lodges and hotels in some stunning locations. Every part of the trip ran smoothly and was a great way to see the very beautiful Costa Rica. I would recommend Exodus Travel.

Date of experience : March 07, 2024

We're really grateful for your review and recommendation, Annie, but most of all we're so happy to hear that you had such a great time in Costa Rica! It's fantastic to read that you got so much out of the country, and we hope you returned home with some memories that will last a lifetime. All the best for your future travels - we hope we're lucky enough to welcome you back on another Exodus adventure when the time comes!

Incredible wildlife tour of Sri Lanka with Exodus

An amazing full on trip to see this amazing country packed full of wildlife architecture history and beautiful scenery

Date of experience : March 27, 2024

Thanks so much for your review Sharon, that's great to hear you enjoyed Sri Lanka so much. We agree it's an amazing country with so much to offer!

We went on the Highlights of Vietnam…

We went on the Highlights of Vietnam trip March 2024 and had the most fantastic holiday. Would thoroughly recomment. Very busy schedule but great fun. Tour guide, Tan, was great. He helped the group have a wonderful bond. Beautiful country, even more beautiful people.

Date of experience : March 08, 2024

Thank you for your review of your trip to Vietnam with us, Diane. It's brilliant to hear that you had such a great time and were impressed by your tour leader, Tan! We very much hope that we're able to welcome you back on another Exodus adventure when you travel again.

Trekking Mont Blanc

I did the trekking Mont Blanc (full trek—camping) with them in 2023. Some treks were different from the standard Mont Blanc treks which was annoying. Breakfast was only muesli & banana for 15 days with no option to have bread. Very limited/boring veggi options for food with bored and to some extend rude hike leaders. I wouldn’t recommend them for this trip.

Date of experience : August 01, 2023

We're genuinely sorry to read of Hanna's disappointment with her camping trip to Mont Blanc last year. We would have loved the opportunity to put this right, but having checked our records we can't see that Hanna contacted us about her trip; we would welcome her to do so, if she would like, at [email protected]. We would like to note that our Mont Blanc Camping Trek received consolidated scores of 4.6 and 4.67 out of 5 for overall experience and for our tour leaders, respectively, in 2023. We do feel that Hanna's experience was therefore a rare one, but we remain regretful that she came away from her trip disappointed.

Excellent Service As Always From Exodus

This is the 12th trip I have booked with Exodus. As always the booking process was efficient and the agents knowledgeable and super helpful.

Why exodus travels is such a great tour operator (with only one flaw).

exodus travel reddit

I have been fortunate enough to have travelled on more adventure tours with Exodus Travels than I remember. A quick count lists as my favourites the Amalfi Coast , Puglia , the Dolomites , the Ring of Kerry , Iceland (hking and Aurora ) and the Greek Islands .

There is a theme here - hiking in Europe and it is with active trips that Exodus made its name in Canada. It is on these trips that Exodus offers more inclusions and better hotels than many of their competitors. And with almost 300 active Europe adventures there is a lifetime of trips to choose from.

So why travel with Exodus?

exodus travel reddit

Aside from the comfortable level of hotels, Exodus employs really good local tour leaders on their small-group adventure tours. On my last trip in Greece our guide had been working for Exodus for over two decades and it showed. It showed in his professionalism, in his knowledge, but most of all in the way he interacted with his guests. Not a single request was too much, he always accompanied us to dinner and he was fun to be with. Case in point the impromptu dance he engaged in with the owner of a local taverna in Paros.

Besides small-group tours Exodus also has an enormous line of self-guided holidays and their popularity really took off during the pandemic. Fantastic route notes paired with maps help you find your way along some of the best hiking trails in Europe. Hotels used here are mostly 4-star and often wonderful meals are included. (On my own Dolomites trip I only managed to eat through all five courses once). And where needed, luggage is transferred for you between overnight stops, so you only hike with a daypack.

Well-researched itineraries are a hallmark of Exodus Travels adventure tours, although one could argue that of late they are sticking with the tried and true. But if you are looking for a good holiday exploring the highlights of a destination, then both in and outside of Europe Exodus has hundreds of holidays for you: from cultural and wildlife trips in Asia to discovery and hiking trips in Latin America to explorations and wildlife trips in Africa and the Middle East.

If I had to name one flaw Exodus has, it is perhaps the fact they are late to the table with a comprehenvie sustainability effort. Whereas other tour operators are operating carbon-neutral tours, Exodus has only committed to a 50% reduction by 2030. However, they do run many projects to help local communities and we applaud their latest addition, rewilding 100 square metre per passenger in Italy , which is not unlike our own 1% for the future challenge . But they are coming to the table, which is commendable for any company.

Exodus Travels Review: How Adventurers Travel in 2024

Exodus Travels Review: How Adventurers Travel in 2024

Calling all adrenaline junkies and thrill seekers! Does hiking old volcanoes or scuba diving with sharks sound like a dream holiday? Exodus Travels claims they’ve got the best adventure lineup in the business. But just how true is that?

exodus travel reddit

Boasting more than 500 itineraries and covering over 100 countries, Exodus Travels has been around for over 45 years. That’s a lot of time in an ever-changing industry. So, has their experience paid off?

Exodus offers a range of adventure options, from last-minute deals and cultural adventures to the opportunity of contributing to the  eBioAtlas . You can choose to go on a trekking adventure or a cycling tour. They offer wildlife encounters and even Arctic and Antarctic expeditions—it seems like Exodus Travels covers it all.

Whether you want to hike through a tropical rainforest in  Jamaica or come face-to-face with wildlife in the  Galapagos Islands , adventure looks like it’s ingrained in the heart of this travel company. So, let’s find out whether booking your next trip with Exodus Travels is as good as it seems.

What is Exodus Travels?

Exodus Travels  focuses on exploring the beauty of planet earth through expeditions. The company emphasizes culture, environment, and adventure as a way to explore countries. With small groups and traveler-led itineraries, the experiences seem flexible and tailor-made.

Activities take place across all kinds of terrain. From empty deserts and rugged mountain ranges to lush jungles and roaring coastlines. Whatever your adventure style, it looks like they’re up for it.

Exodus aims to travel consciously and respectfully. They focus on delving deep into local customs, culture, cuisine, and tradition. By providing travelers with an authentic experience, they hope to minimize their environmental impact and leave a small carbon footprint.

Who started Exodus Travels?

Founded by two adrenaline-loving friends back in the mid-’70s, Exodus Travels sprung out of an adventure in the Hindu Kush mountain range in the Himalayas. The company’s heart-warming story began when John Gillies and David Burlinson decided to head out in a truck to the  Minaret of Jam  deep in the heart of the Hindu Kush.

After reaching this relatively inaccessible and little-known attraction, they were inspired to share their experience. The two friends went on to build three more trucks to bring more people to rare spots like the Minaret of Jam. And just like that, the idea of an adventure travel company was sparked.

In the following years, Exodus Travels expanded globally, covering trips from Asia and South America to Africa and Europe. To this day, the company has kept growing and providing planet-focused expeditions to adventurous travelers.

What to expect with Exodus Travels?

If you like adventure travel but are not quite confident enough to organize your own trip, a tour with Exodus Travels could be just the thing for you. Exodus is also ideal for solo travelers. On most expeditions, about half of the group consists of individuals adventuring independently. So there’s an opportunity to make friends and find like-minded thrill seekers!

Small group expeditions

If you’re new to Exodus, you can expect small groups of anywhere between 12-16 people, depending on the type of trip you choose. Each adventure has an experienced local leader with the qualifications to put you at ease.

Self-guided adventure holidays

Exodus Travels also offers self-guided holidays, which include detailed maps, routes and notes, hotel bookings, and transfers. If you prefer to go at your own pace, this would be the best option for you.

Private group adventures

Last but not least, Exodus Travels also hosts private adventures. This is a perfect fit for small groups with a minimum of two travelers. If you’re looking for something that’s tailored to your loved ones, work colleagues, or family and friends, then a locally-crafted private tour could be ideal.

What are people saying about Exodus Travels?

People seem very positive when it comes to Exodus Travels, leaving upbeat reviews about their experienced and knowledgeable tour leaders. In 2015, 97% of travelers said they would recommend Exodus Travels to a friend!

Visitors seem very pleased with the amount of planning, research, and training involved and how each staff member is an absolute expert in their field. Travelers are impressed with the variety of options on offer and appreciate the freedom to choose a self-guided tour vs. a guided one.

Eco-conscious adventurers rave that this company is one of the very few to show that they’re committed to sustainable tourism.

The only major downsides seem to be the high price point, which can be difficult for budget travelers to afford. There are also limited group trips available in the year, so planning is tricky.

Is Exodus Travels worth it?

If you’re on the hunt for an adventure-packed tour that’s run by experienced local guides, then Exodus Travels is a great choice. And suppose you’re an eco-conscious traveler concerned with leaving a positive impact wherever you travel and contributing to responsible tourism. In that case, Exodus Travels is the way to go.

Our Rating: 4.6/5

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUTESTIONS

What is Exodus and does the government pay for me to take Exodus? Exodus is a break in class, during the December holidays, which allows the AIT to be able to travel home if they wish to do so. The cost of the travel is the responsibility of the AIT and/or their family.

What are the Exodus dates? December 22, 2023 through January 2, 2024. AIT must report back to Sheppard AFB no later than 2359 (11:59 PM) on January 2, 2024.

Does the AIT have to take the entire Exodus break? No, the AIT can take any number of days they wish during the Exodus period. National Guard Reservists have different rules regarding this matter.

Where can the AIT buy their flight and/or shuttle ticket? Flights and shuttle tickets can be purchased through QR Code, www.sheppardafbexodus.com, or Sheppard AFB ITT office. Shuttle tickets must be purchased using one of these methods.

How much does the shuttle ticket cost? The shuttle ticket is $89 for one way or $168 for round trip.

Can AIT purchase flights on their own? Yes, they can purchase their flight through other travel sites. However, they MUST purchase their shuttle ticket through one of the 3 methods listed in the question above.

We highly recommend using one of the 3 methods previously mentioned when purchasing flight and shuttle tickets. If the flight is purchased using a different method, the AIT needs to bring in 4 copies of their flight itinerary when they visit the ITT office to pick up their Exodus package. The ITT office can print their flight itinerary but will charge a print fee of $10.

Are flights refundable? It depends on the type of ticket that was purchased. You will need to check with your specific airline to find out what the policy is pertaining to refunds and/or changes made to flights. Southwest Airlines does not have a change fee. Keep in mind that airlines always charge the difference in the airfares.

Are shuttle tickets refundable or transferable? No, shuttle tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. We cannot replace lost or stolen shuttle tickets. IF your graduation date is around the Exodus break, we recommend you wait until you are certain of your travels plans to purchase your tickets.

What are the dates and times of the shuttle? The shuttles will only run on Friday, 22nd DEC 2023 and on Tuesday, 2nd JAN. 2024 December 22, 2023 – Shuttles will depart no later than 0400 (4 AM). January 2, 2024 – Shuttles will depart DFW no later than 2000 (8 PM) and DAL at 1930 (7:30 PM).

We recommend landing at least an hour before the last shuttle is scheduled to depart. Also, keep in mind, if you are traveling with checked baggage, it will take time to collect your luggage once you depart the plane.

Will shuttle tickets sell out? No, tickets can be purchased up until Exodus. However, squadrons will have their own cut-off dates. We recommend that AIT purchase their shuttle tickets no later than 15 December 2023.

How much is an Uber or taxi to DFW or DAL Airports? Both airports are at least 2 hours away. Uber is about $150+ one way and does not have base access. Taxies are about $250 one way. Executive Tranzport is $125 to DFW and $150 to DAL one way. IF you utilize a ride share service, the AIT cannot leave base until 0600 (6 AM).

What do I do if my flight is delayed? Inside your travel envelope there is a business card with the shuttle pick up locations and a contact number. You can notify the shuttle company on the last day of Exodus. If you are going to miss the last shuttle departing the airport, you will need to contact your squadron.

*PLEASE NOTE: Every AIT taking Exodus (except those being picked up at Sheppard AFB by family) will have to visit the Sheppard AFB ITT Office to pick up their Exodus Package. This can be done 7 days after purchasing the flight/shuttle ticket by QR code or web site.

Date of experience : 16 March 2024

Date of experience : 24 March 2024

Date of experience : 30 March 2024

Date of experience : 05 April 2024

We are happy to read of your positive experience with Exodus, and trust that you have gathered some wonderful memories of Puglia. We hope to welcome you on to another Exodus adventure soon.

A cut above

While there are many travel companies that offer similar products, Exodus is just a cut above. The staff are knowledgeable and, always, helpful and friendly and the range of holidays on offer is top notch. Very responsive to queries and requests. Have travelled with them many times and have to say I keep coming back.

Date of experience : 19 March 2024

Date of experience : 10 March 2024

Date of experience : 07 March 2024

We're really grateful for your review and recommendation, Annie, but most of all we're so happy to hear that you had such a great time in Costa Rica! It's fantastic to read that you got so much out of the country, and we hope you returned home with some memories that will last a lifetime. All the best for your future travels - we hope we're lucky enough to welcome you back on another Exodus adventure when the time comes!

Incredible wildlife tour of Sri Lanka with Exodus

We went on the Highlights of Vietnam…

We went on the Highlights of Vietnam trip March 2024 and had the most fantastic holiday. Would thoroughly recomment. Very busy schedule but great fun. Tour guide, Tan, was great. He helped the group have a wonderful bond. Beautiful country, even more beautiful people.

Date of experience : 08 March 2024

Date of experience : 01 August 2023

AVOID EXODUS TRAVEL, CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD AND HAVE NOT CONFIRMED MY TRIP

I booked a Walking/Cycling Trip to Ireland with Exodus Travel through Tour Radar. My credit card was charged $3500.00 on March 25, 2024. On March 27, 2024 I received an email from Tour Radar that Exodus Travel had not confirmed my booking and they requested a response from Exodus Travel. Exodus travel responded on March 28, 2024 that the accommodation promised in the package was not available on my travel dates and offered alternate accommodation. I accepted immediately. I did not receive a confirmation. I spoke to a Tour Radar rep on April 1, 2024 who informed me that Exodus Travel has not yet confirmed despite charging my credit card on March 25, 2024.

A very efficient service. Strongly recommend!

Staff here was incredibly helpful, well organized and often answering emails within an hour. Also, they have a very polite phone manor even when I were changing our flights and schedules several times. A big Plus++, Exodus Travel is really responsive with all of the COVID rule changes and admin. I've recommended them to my friends anytime they have a chance to visit Egypt. #love from Thailand

Had an accident, had to cancel, great service

I had an accident and i had to cancel 2 walking tours with Exodus travel. 😥. The communication and response was very fast and they were very supportive and understanding. Candice Du Preez was extremely helpful in sorting out my refund. No fuss, a very personalised service. I would highly recommend this company and I hope to go on one of their walking tours next year.

Unsure of Exodus ethos.

My partner and I went to Greece during early autumn last year. It was a walking holiday, and it was fabulous because of the breathtaking sceneries and energetic walks. It was an expensive trip because all dinner costs has to be borne by the customers, unlike other renowned tour companies that include them as part of the tour package. Our hotels in Greece were all 3-stars and the bathrooms were outdated and needs refurbishment. We were not allowed to choose the tavernas for dinner and felt very forced to stay with the group for our evening meals. Conversations around the same people at one long table became very monotonous, tiresome and uninspiring. The last day of our tour, we made a strong request that we will go to a taverna of our choice. It was pleasant experience and we had a chance to mingle with the locals too. I am unsure of the ethos of Exodus, but the point of a holiday is to experience a good break and enjoy conversations with natives/locals of that area. All the people in our group were from United Kingdom except for one American, and they all seem content not to mix outside the group and indulged in the same British-like conversations. The other two top-notch travel companies I travelled in the past, allowed a lot more freedom and choices. Sadly Exodus has some great holiday packages but my experience in Greece has frightened the life out of me. Would I travel with Exodus again? Not until Exodus can assure me that we can have choices and not stuck with the same 16 people on a long table every evening for the duration of our holiday.

Pros & Cons

Pros: Works on desktop, mobile and browser apps; simple interface for trading, staking and tracking investments.

Cons: Lacks security options offered by competitors; some other wallets support more cryptocurrencies.

Table of Contents

Where exodus shines, where exodus falls short, what exodus is best for, exodus at a glance, full details about exodus' ratings, other details you should know about exodus, is exodus right for you, how we review crypto wallets, full review.

Availability: You can access your crypto via desktop, mobile or browser extension without keeping assets in the custody of a centralized exchange.

Accessibility: Exodus has a simple interface that makes moving money into a crypto wallet accessible to relative novices.

Security upgrades: Unlike some other wallets, Exodus does not have open-source software that would allow third parties to check it for shortcomings. It doesn’t support multisignature transaction approvals, and it doesn’t offer two-factor authentication.

Selection: Though Exodus supports a decent number of cryptocurrencies, there are competitors that store more.

• Crypto owners seeking easy access across a variety of platforms.

Security: 1 out of 5 stars

Self-custody crypto wallets such as Exodus have some advantages over leaving your cryptocurrency in a centralized exchange. The technology is designed to work in such a way that the developers of the wallet software don’t have access to your crypto, and so they can’t lose your money if their business collapses or they suffer a data breach.

However, you should consider the potential downsides of self-custody wallets: If you lose your password or recovery information, it could be difficult or impossible to recover your crypto. And because Exodus is a hot wallet that works on internet-connected devices, there’s a chance you could be subject to an individual hack that could affect your assets.

Among hot wallets, Exodus lacks a few advanced security features that some competitors have.

The software is not open source.

It does not support multisignature approvals, which require more than one wallet to sign off on a transaction — potentially adding another layer of security.

Exodus doesn’t have two-factor authentication, though it’s not the only wallet maker to eschew this offering in the name of giving users greater control over their login credentials.

Selection: 4 out of 5 stars

Exodus supports more than 300 cryptocurrencies.

Integration: 5 out of 5 stars

You can use Exodus to carry out most types of crypto transactions, including purchases and swaps. It offers staking on a handful of cryptocurrencies and has Web3 connectivity to decentralized applications through its browser extension. You can also store NFTs using Exodus.

Storage: 5 out of 5 stars

Exodus is a hot wallet that keeps the keys to your cryptocurrencies within your control on an internet-connected device. You can get an extra level of protection against data breaches by using a cold wallet, which is a device that keeps your crypto offline.

If you’re interested in using Exodus in concert with a cold wallet, Exodus connects easily with devices made by Trezor.

Functionality: 5 out of 5 stars

Exodus allows users to access their wallets through desktop, mobile and browser-based applications. As with other crypto wallets, you’ll need to enter your security/recovery phrase each time you set up your wallet on a new device.

Tools: 5 out of 5 stars

If you’re a newcomer to storing your own crypto, Exodus has a solid library of educational content about crypto security and digital assets in general. If you’re a more advanced user looking to track your investments, Exodus’ desktop and mobile apps have tools for tracking your portfolio.

Pricing: Exodus is free to use, though you’ll pay to carry out some types of transactions using its software. Cryptocurrency networks tend to charge transaction fees, for starters, regardless of which wallet you’re using.

And there are additional costs if you use Exodus to exchange crypto. The wallet’s partners charge a spread on these types of transactions, and the wallet maker makes money by taking a cut of the proceeds. Such spreads and fees are common on centralized crypto exchanges as well, though Exodus’ rates vary depending on market conditions, so you’ll want to check the costs at the time to make sure you’re getting a good deal.

Exodus may be an attractive choice for users who are migrating crypto portfolios off major exchanges but still want relatively easy access to their assets.

NerdWallet's comprehensive review process evaluates and ranks products that allow U.S. customers to store, send and receive cryptocurrency. We aim to provide our independent assessment of providers to help arm you with information to make sound, informed judgments on which will best meet your needs. We adhere to strict guidelines for editorial integrity .

We conduct firsthand testing and observation, and the results fuel our proprietary assessment process that scores each provider's performance across more than 15 factors. The final output produces star ratings from poor (1 star) to excellent (5 stars).

‘Civil War’ Review: We Have Met the Enemy and It Is Us. Again.

In Alex Garland’s tough new movie, a group of journalists led by Kirsten Dunst, as a photographer, travels a United States at war with itself.

  • Share full article

‘Civil War’ | Anatomy of a Scene

The writer and director alex garland narrates a sequence from his film..

“My name is Alex Garland and I’m the writer director of ‘Civil War’. So this particular clip is roughly around the halfway point of the movie and it’s these four journalists and they’re trying to get, in a very circuitous route, from New York to DC, and encountering various obstacles on the way. And this is one of those obstacles. What they find themselves stuck in is a battle between two snipers. And they are close to one of the snipers and the other sniper is somewhere unseen, but presumably in a large house that sits over a field and a hill. It’s a surrealist exchange and it’s surrounded by some very surrealist imagery, which is they’re, in broad daylight in broad sunshine, there’s no indication that we’re anywhere near winter in the filming. In fact, you can kind of tell it’s summer. But they’re surrounded by Christmas decorations. And in some ways, the Christmas decorations speak of a country, which is in disrepair, however silly it sounds. If you haven’t put away your Christmas decorations, clearly something isn’t going right.” “What’s going on?” “Someone in that house, they’re stuck. We’re stuck.” “And there’s a bit of imagery. It felt like it hit the right note. But the interesting thing about that imagery was that it was not production designed. We didn’t create it. We actually literally found it. We were driving along and we saw all of these Christmas decorations, basically exactly as they are in the film. They were about 100 yards away, just piled up by the side of the road. And it turned out, it was a guy who’d put on a winter wonderland festival. People had not dug his winter wonderland festival, and he’d gone bankrupt. And he had decided just to leave everything just strewn around on a farmer’s field, who was then absolutely furious. So in a way, there’s a loose parallel, which is the same implication that exists within the film exists within real life.” “You don’t understand a word I say. Yo. What’s over there in that house?” “Someone shooting.” “It’s to do with the fact that when things get extreme, the reasons why things got extreme no longer become relevant and the knife edge of the problem is all that really remains relevant. So it doesn’t actually matter, as it were, in this context, what side they’re fighting for or what the other person’s fighting for. It’s just reduced to a survival.”

By Manohla Dargis

A blunt, gut-twisting work of speculative fiction, “Civil War” opens with the United States at war with itself — literally, not just rhetorically. In Washington, D.C., the president is holed up in the White House; in a spookily depopulated New York, desperate people wait for water rations. It’s the near-future, and rooftop snipers, suicide bombers and wild-eyed randos are in the fight while an opposition faction with a two-star flag called the Western Forces, comprising Texas and California — as I said, this is speculative fiction — is leading the charge against what remains of the federal government. If you’re feeling triggered, you aren’t alone.

It’s mourning again in America, and it’s mesmerizingly, horribly gripping. Filled with bullets, consuming fires and terrific actors like Kirsten Dunst running for cover, the movie is a what-if nightmare stoked by memories of Jan. 6. As in what if the visions of some rioters had been realized, what if the nation was again broken by Civil War, what if the democratic experiment called America had come undone? If that sounds harrowing, you’re right. It’s one thing when a movie taps into childish fears with monsters under the bed; you’re eager to see what happens because you know how it will end (until the sequel). Adult fears are another matter.

In “Civil War,” the British filmmaker Alex Garland explores the unbearable if not the unthinkable, something he likes to do. A pop cultural savant, he made a splashy zeitgeist-ready debut with his 1996 best seller “The Beach,” a novel about a paradise that proves deadly, an evergreen metaphor for life and the basis for a silly film . That things in the world are not what they seem, and are often far worse, is a theme that Garland has continued pursuing in other dark fantasies, first as a screenwriter (“ 28 Days Later ”), and then as a writer-director (“ Ex Machina ”). His résumé is populated with zombies, clones and aliens, though reliably it is his outwardly ordinary characters you need to keep a closer watch on.

By the time “Civil War” opens, the fight has been raging for an undisclosed period yet long enough to have hollowed out cities and people’s faces alike. It’s unclear as to why the war started or who fired the first shot. Garland does scatter some hints; in one ugly scene, a militia type played by a jolting, scarily effective Jesse Plemons asks captives “what kind of American” they are. Yet whatever divisions preceded the conflict are left to your imagination, at least partly because Garland assumes you’ve been paying attention to recent events. Instead, he presents an outwardly and largely post-ideological landscape in which debates over policies, politics and American exceptionalism have been rendered moot by war.

‘Civil War’ Is Designed to Disturb You

A woman with a bulletproof vest that says “Press” stands in a smoky city street.

One thing that remains familiar amid these ruins is the movie’s old-fashioned faith in journalism. Dunst, who’s sensational, plays Lee, a war photographer who works for Reuters alongside her friend, a reporter, Joel (the charismatic Wagner Moura). They’re in New York when you meet them, milling through a crowd anxiously waiting for water rations next to a protected tanker. It’s a fraught scene; the restless crowd is edging into mob panic, and Lee, camera in hand, is on high alert. As Garland’s own camera and Joel skitter about, Lee carves a path through the chaos, as if she knows exactly where she needs to be — and then a bomb goes off. By the time it does, an aspiring photojournalist, Jessie (Cailee Spaeny), is also in the mix.

The streamlined, insistently intimate story takes shape once Lee, Joel, Jessie and a veteran reporter, Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson), pile into a van and head to Washington. Joel and Lee are hoping to interview the president (Nick Offerman), and Sammy and Jessie are riding along largely so that Garland can make the trip more interesting. Sammy serves as a stabilizing force (Henderson fills the van with humanizing warmth), while Jessie plays the eager upstart Lee takes under her resentful wing. It’s a tidily balanced sampling that the actors, with Garland’s banter and via some cozy downtime, turn into flesh-and-blood personalities, people whose vulnerability feeds the escalating tension with each mile.

As the miles and hours pass, Garland adds diversions and hurdles, including a pair of playful colleagues, Tony and Bohai (Nelson Lee and Evan Lai), and some spooky dudes guarding a gas station. Garland shrewdly exploits the tense emptiness of the land, turning strangers into potential threats and pretty country roads into ominously ambiguous byways. Smartly, he also recurrently focuses on Lee’s face, a heartbreakingly hard mask that Dunst lets slip brilliantly. As the journey continues, Garland further sketches in the bigger picture — the dollar is near-worthless, the F.B.I. is gone — but for the most part, he focuses on his travelers and the engulfing violence, the smoke and the tracer fire that they often don’t notice until they do.

Despite some much-needed lulls (for you, for the narrative rhythm), “Civil War” is unremittingly brutal or at least it feels that way. Many contemporary thrillers are far more overtly gruesome than this one, partly because violence is one way unimaginative directors can put a distinctive spin on otherwise interchangeable material: Cue the artful fountains of arterial spray. Part of what makes the carnage here feel incessant and palpably realistic is that Garland, whose visual approach is generally unfussy, doesn’t embellish the violence, turning it into an ornament of his virtuosity. Instead, the violence is direct, at times shockingly casual and unsettling, so much so that its unpleasantness almost comes as a surprise.

If the violence feels more intense than in a typical genre shoot ’em up, it’s also because, I think, with “Civil War,” Garland has made the movie that’s long been workshopped in American political discourse and in mass culture, and which entered wider circulation on Jan. 6. The raw power of Garland’s vision unquestionably owes much to the vivid scenes that beamed across the world that day when rioters, some wearing T-shirts emblazoned with “ MAGA civil war ,” swarmed the Capitol. Even so, watching this movie, I also flashed on other times in which Americans have relitigated the Civil War directly and not, on the screen and in the streets.

Movies have played a role in that relitigation for more than a century, at times grotesquely. Two of the most famous films in history — D.W. Griffith’s 1915 racist epic “The Birth of a Nation” (which became a Ku Klux Klan recruitment tool) and the romantic 1939 melodrama “Gone With the Wind” — are monuments to white supremacy and the myth of the Southern Lost Cause. Both were critical and popular hits. In the decades since, filmmakers have returned to the Civil War era to tell other stories in films like “Glory,” “Lincoln” and “Django Unchained” that in addressing the American past inevitably engage with its present.

There are no lofty or reassuring speeches in “Civil War,” and the movie doesn’t speak to the better angels of our nature the way so many films try to. Hollywood’s longstanding, deeply American imperative for happy endings maintains an iron grip on movies, even in ostensibly independent productions. There’s no such possibility for that in “Civil War.” The very premise of Garland’s movie means that — no matter what happens when or if Lee and the rest reach Washington — a happy ending is impossible, which makes this very tough going. Rarely have I seen a movie that made me so acutely uncomfortable or watched an actor’s face that, like Dunst’s, expressed a nation’s soul-sickness so vividly that it felt like an X-ray.

Civil War Rated R for war violence and mass death. Running time: 1 hour 49 minutes. In theaters.

  6. Why Exodus Travels is such a great tour operator (with only one flaw)
