Family Friendly Wine Tours

Family-Friendly Wine Tours. We’re ready for you!

"fun winery tour - with a child, too", "thank you cheers for making our tour so fun and memorable. who thought you could have fun on a wine tour with a child but it’s possible peter picked us up from our hotel for a four-hour tour, and we were off to our first stop. we were very comfortable with peter, and we had many great conversations along the way. he explained everything to us and had many great stories to share. we had a picnic lunch then 8 yr. old got to feed alpacas. that was a huge hit with both of us we met so many lovely people along the way and got to see places we probably never would have seen travelling on our own. so thank you to reign and allen in the office for answering all of our questions and helping us decide which tour would fit us best. and thank you for peter for being a gracious host and informative tour guide. cheers to cheers well done".

Karina Huber, Regina

A message from the owner and CEO:

Hello parents and guardians,

Yes, we deliver kid-friendly wine tours – every day. From toddlers to young adults, we love children on our tours!!

It’s all about perspective.

If you subtract the romantic notions from winemaking, you’re left with “grape farmers” who want to sell their magical grape juice. And what child wouldn’t like a “field trip” to a farm?!

An important part of making the “field trip” into a once-in-a-lifetime type experience, is blending in the fact that their parents have abandoned their careers – if only for a day – to fully participate in this magical “field trip”!

“Fun”, “Informative” and “Memorable” are essential hallmarks of a successful family-friendly wine tour experience. Savvy children often enjoy wine tours even more than their parents. Like sommeliers and wine judges at wine competitions, they don’t drink. Children are knowledge-sponges and they love having fun while making lifelong memories – just as much as adults!

Someone pointed out Cheers! Okanagan Tours vaulted from 124th position to 2nd for tours and transportation on TripAdvisor® in less than 3 years! Wow!, right?!

All of our tours begin with an unpretentious discussion entitled “Wine 101”. Our guides authentically help everyone (at an 8-year-olds’ level) understand that “taste” is a synonym for “smell” and wine “tasting” is 99% about smelling. We only have 5 taste senses, but over 1 trillion smells!

I love it when the adult’s eyes glaze over as the guide gets to “retronasal olfaction”. Retro – what?! Did you know that when we eat or drink something it is the sense of smell that largely accounts for the flavours we “taste”? As we inhale and exhale while drinking or eating we continue to smell via the oral cavity located at the back of the throat. This is known as “retronasal olfaction”.

One of the best winemakers in the world living in West Kelowna doesn’t drink wine. He’s allergic, yet often wins Best Chardonnay in Chardonnay, France in addition to innumerable other international awards! He loves kids. Kids love him! One of his own is challenged by juvenile diabetes.

Sorry, Mom and Dad, there’s a good chance, the kids are going to love the wine tour more than you! Wait until you have friends over for dinner. Your kids will surprise them with their knowledge as they help your friends enjoy their wine by sharing tips and tricks they picked up while “wine touring” in the Okanagan. Wait to see your friend’s faces when your children explain “retronasal olfaction”. LOL!

It’s all about perspective. Consider the outcome you’re desiring. My 3 children became entrepreneurs and philanthropists at 9, primary benefactors in building a Ugandan orphanage at 15, started acquiring real estate at 16, worked with disenfranchised youth in prisons and under bridges in their later teens, and have lived and worked in multiple developing countries,  sometimes in orphanages similar to where two of them came from. But that’s just my kids, not yours. Taking your children (future leaders, humanitarians, spouses, parents) on a wine tour while believing in their potential and destiny can be transformative, revolutionary, and certainly, a once-in-a-lifetime family experience to be remembered forever.

The cost of our tours is wide-ranging but the value is always priceless. We offer DIY transportation $25+ per guest (vehicle & chauffeur only), assorted no-frills $99 tours, classic award-winning tours from $169 for 4 hours that include an alfresco charcuterie picnic in the vineyard (a fabulous unique event!). Terrific with a glass of “to-live-for” wine you just discovered. Introductions to amazing people, authentic encounters, extra personal touches, and carefully chosen little surprises make you and your children or young adults feel welcome, lavished and treated like royalty. And finally, we deliver premium top-tier tours that start at $499 per person. (For serious oenophiles – also known as wine aficionados or connoisseurs)

Most popular are our Classic Top-Tier Tours where the 4-hour is $169 per person, 5-hour is $184, 6-hour is $199, etc. You get to choose your individual charcuterie from regular, gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetation, or vegan.

All of our tour and transportation prices are all-inclusive so there are no unwelcome surprises. No hidden fees. Children’s fares are identical to adults. We don’t discriminate based on height, weight, size 2, 12, or 20, and whether someone swallows or not. The winery’s educators/servers are employed to present and have to be paid.

We’re family-run, authentic, candid, and a little nutty (some say more than a little 🙂 ) We appreciate the opportunity to earn the privilege of your trust, commerce, testimony, and a lifetime of referrals.

You can meet our team of 26 guides, chauffeurs, boat, and yacht captains here .

Amazing Family-Friendly Wine Tour!

"my husband, i and our 1-year-old daughter were taking our first trip to kelowna, and naturally, we wanted to experience some of the amazing wineries in the area. i was having a lot of trouble finding a company that would allow our 1-year-old to come along with us. i finally came across cheers and called up allen. i was so happy to hear that he would be more than happy to have our daughter along for a private tour from the moment he picked us up at the condo, he was so welcoming and patient while we got our car seat installed etc. what we loved the most is that we were on our time, no waiting for others or having to follow a group. we had such a blast. allen was funny and very knowledgeable about the various wines and such. we would definitely recommend allen and his tours and will definitely be going back for another with them".

Top 10 things to do with family in kelowna, bc.

family tour kelowna

Introducing guest blogger Nicole from The Passport Kids

Nestled in the beautiful province of British Columbia, Canada you will find a favourite spot that most Canadians seek out for vacations. It’s called the Okanagan Valley and Kelowna is its unofficial capital.

The Okanagan Valley is in the interior of British Columbia and surrounded by mountains, lakes, valleys, rivers, forest, vineyards and fruit orchards. Although it may feel at sometimes you are outside the city because of the natural wilderness, there are always great options for dining, coffee shops, festivals and entertainment.

There is never a shortage of things to do in the area as a family with adventure, fun and exploration in our backyard. After travelling the world for 1 year with our kids and trying to determine where we would call home in Canada, one of our first picks was Kelowna!

With every city we travelled to on our journey, we asked ourselves if we could live there. There were a few cities we may have chosen but Kelowna for us seemed to check all the boxes. Lake life to swim, beach and fish; mountain life to ski, snowboard, camp and hike; all while having all the modern amenities at your doorstep.

Every day we feel like we are on vacation in this amazing city. Always something new to do as a family. Being that it is a hot spot for tourist, we frequently have family and friends come to visit and when they come these are our favorite things to do in Kelowna .

This post is part of our Explore My City series – come and visit cities around the world through the eyes of local parents

1. hike knox mountain.

A classic hike we take everyone on when they come to visit. There is a short relatively easy 3km hike called Paul’s Tomb that guides you along the Okanagan lake. This hike perches you at the top of the famous landmark mountain to get the bird’s eye view of Kelowna and area.

Kelowna Knox Mountain

If you’re lucky you’ll be able to spot some deer and maybe even a bald eagle along the hike too! Halfway in the hiking loop, you will come to a great little beach where you can take a quick swim and enjoy a picnic as a family. One of the quintessential things to do in Kelowna, and really should be on your list.

2. Myra Canyon Adventure Park

Myra Canyon Adventure Park is an outdoor dream for kids and families. Zipline, climbing, ropes and slacklines will energize your kids and let them burn all that energy at the same time. So many things for kids to do and a great way to spend a day in this outdoor adventure park.

3. Kangaroo Creek Park

One of our favourite spots to take the kids. This animal sanctuary is a slice of Australia life in Canada, with kangaroos and other animals in an open concept type farm where kids, parents and animals all roam. Kids can feed the kangaroos and even get to hold a joey.

Kangaroo Creek Kelowna Canada

4. Walks & Parks at Mission Creek

Mission Creek runs through almost the extent of the city and is a great way to see the city. Biking along the path is our family’s favourite thing to do and stopping off at the big park and Turtle Island is a must.

5. Wineries & Vineyards

Yes, most wineries are kid-friendly and offer a family atmosphere. After all, most vineyards are family business. The Okanagan is home to some great Canadian wines and so many vineyards in the region.

Winery Kelowna

Summerhill winery in Kelowna is our kids favourite, it might be the homemade kid’s pizza in the restaurant, while mom and dad like the wine 🙂 Many of the wineries have restaurants that are farm-to-table type menus which are a treat for the whole family.

6. H20 Waterpark

An indoor waterpark with waterslides, pool, splash park, FlowRider and tons of fun for the entire family. This is always great on a rainy day, winter day or if you need to beat the heat in the summer.

7. Chip & Putt Golfing

There are approximately 19 golf courses in the area, so depending on the age of the kids you can head out to some of the amazing golf course scattered in the region. Or for younger kids or family members who just like to have some fun try 19 Greens just across the bridge and be able to golf alongside the Okanagan lake. This one is perfect for kids!

Okanagan

8. Ski or Snowboard at Big White

Within an hour of Kelowna, you will be able to get to a world-class ski resort called Big White. From December to April you can hit the slopes, go tubing, skating, snowshoeing, dogsledding or enjoy apres ski in the chalet.

Big White Kids

We head out to Big White every weekend in the winter for fun in the snow. Sometimes there will not be any snow in Kelowna, but climb up to the mountain and it will be a winter wonderland. Easy shuttle services from the airport will get you there too, so there are no excuses for not having a day or two at Big White with the family.

9. Fruit Picking

Kelowna and area are known for their fruit orchards. So anytime starting from mid-June to October you will be able to go pick some fruit at specialty U-pick farms. Apples, peaches, apricots, cherries, strawberries and so much more. A unique experience for kids and families to share together.

10. Scandia

Scandia is a top spot for kids when they get to choose the day. Indoor and outdoor mini golf, go karts, arcade game and batting cages. Kids can just be kids here and have some fun! Collect their tickets and in the end, and get some prizes to take home too. Having both indoor and outdoor activities can make this a place to go any time of the year too!

Scandia

Where is Kelowna?

The Okanagan Valley is made up a few small cities scattered along Highway 97 included Kelowna (the biggest), Vernon, Penticton, West Kelowna, Peachland, Osoyoos and a few other communities. Each of these cities and towns are situated along a variety of lakes which always provide a lake view from anywhere.

Kelowna Lake

So if you happen to be passing through western Canada, Kelowna may be along your driving path and don’t even realize it until you have stumbled upon this gem when you get here. Although we are trying to keep this place to ourselves, the secret is slowly being shared. Kelowna is 4 hours east of Vancouver and 6-7 hours west of Banff and Calgary ; which is the perfect Western Canadian drive with so much scenery along the way.

A variety of paths are marked with some easy walks for the entire family. Our favourite to take our friends and family is the 3km hike out to Paul’s Tomb since it is relatively flat with some amazing views of the lake and the city below.

6. Mission Creek Regional Park

Another one of the free things to do in Kelowna is to walk along Mission Creek Regional Park. They have a great walking path (or biking path) along the river so you get some great views of the water flowing while you step into nature. There are a few hiking paths outlined if you wish to go check our Turtle pond or other little hidden gems.

This is also an area if you are interested in seeing the Salmon spawn in the autumn! There is also a great play structure, picnic area and washroom facilities to make an afternoon out it. We always recommend this path as one of the easiest family activities in Kelowna.

7. Beach Day at Gyro Beach Park

If you are in Kelowna during the summer you have to dip your toes into the Okanagan Lake and Gyro beach is a great central spot to go for some family fun. It is also another free thing to do in Kelowna and one of the great Kelowna family activities to do.

They have play structures, beach volleyball nets, a sand beach area and a green space. There is also a great walking path behind to take a stroll or get those little ones to sleep in the stroller.

Bring your floaty, sand toys, beach chairs, towels and enjoy the sun on the beach in the middle of the city! Gyro beach is what to do in Kelowna for kids!

8. Explore Kelowna Downtown

There are lots of things to do in Kelowna downtown, it is the hub of the tourist center. So many of the Kelowna activities happen in the small downtown of Kelowna. It is a chill beach vibe kind of downtown – flip flops and shorts are always welcome in the summer!

View this post on Instagram Kelowna is now home. It’s been a month since we have moved to this beautiful place. • Rent a boat, rent a jet ski, book a boat tour around Lake Okanagan, swimming.
  • Eat at one of the great restaurants along the lake – we like the Cactus Club, Earls and The Craft for their patios.
  • Grab an ice cream or gelato.
  • Find the Ogo Pogo Statue.
  • Walk along the Okanagan Lake.
  • Visit City Park – there is a play structure for kids and in the summer a water spray pad for toddlers and little ones.
  • During the summer there has also in the past been big blow-up trampolines on the lake that older kids can go have some fun on.
  • Kelowna Tourism center is right downtown too, so you can find out about local events happening during your stay or book tours.

9. Don-O-Ray Farm Adventure

We love Don-O-Ray farm and market for the local experience. Get local fruits and vegetables from their market, it makes you feel like you are shopping and supporting the local (which you are)!

During the summer months, they have a small petting zoo which is fun for the kids to go see and enjoy for a little bit of time. In our eyes, it’s a win-win for kids and parents. A great Kelowna kids activities to enjoy with the entire family and an easy Kelowna toddler activity.

10. U Pick Fruit – Cherries, Apples, Pears

Ok, this is one of the best things to do in Kelowna – hands down you will have a good time picking cherries, strawberries, apples or pears from one of the local orchards. It’s something you can’t do everywhere and so cool to do.

The kids love this and eat more I think than pick, but it is such fun! I guarantee you will have a good time with the entire family! You will see all kinds around Kelowna – the ones with signs of U-Pick are the ones where you can go and do it yourself.

Things to do on Rainy Days in Kelowna

Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate either with rain or sometimes it is too hot to do things outdoors. So here are a few of our favourite things to do indoors in Kelowna.

12. H20 Water Park

The H20 waterpark is an indoor waterpark that has waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river, hot tubs, swimming pools and even a flow rider to learn to surf. You can spend hours here with the kids in the pool. They also have gym facilities, exercise classes and other fitness fun for the entire family.

13. Scandia Golf & Games

A fun indoor arcade and games for the kids to play and spend hours having fun. There is also indoor mini-golf that is open year-round for a great family activity during cooler months or rainy days. This is definitely what the Kelowna kids love to do here!

Accommodations in Kelowna

If staying for a quick weekend or a couple of days I would suggest staying at an accommodation close to the water if you can. There are many hotel options that I have outlined below for the different areas.

The other option is to check into VRBO in the Kelowna area . If you are staying for a long time this might be more cost-effective.

Kelowna Downtown Area

The first option I would recommend for an area to stay in Kelowna would be downtown Kelowna. There are some great places to stay in Kelowna hotels downtown (Cultural District) with views of Lake Okanagan. The closer to the lake the better and obviously the more expensive.

We recommend Delta by Marriot , it is a prime location and a beautiful hotel. Royal Ann hotel is right on Bernard Avenue so you are in the middle of the action and close to shopping, food, and activities. Any of the hotels in this area are family-friendly hotels in Kelowna since they are within easy walking distance to many things.

Gyro Beach Area

The other option is over by Gyro Beach area (South Pandosy – KLO). Eldorado Resort is right on the water and a busier area with a great walking path to Gyro Beach. Anywhere in this area is a great spot if you want to be close to the beach and lake life.

West Kelowna

If you are looking for accommodations that are more economical, sometimes you can find some great deals in West Kelowna , which is just across the bridge and about a 10-15 minute drive to downtown Kelowna. West Kelowna has some amazing things to do in that area too, including an entire wine route that is awesome!

Check out some of the prices and locations of hotels in West Kelowna here.

Kelowna BC Map

Kelowna is not a big city, so getting from one side to the other takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes at the most. During the peak holiday season (July-August) there is an influx of tourists in the area and travel time can take longer.

Best Time to Visit Kelowna

All year long! But, depending on what you want to do will depend on when you want to visit. There are so many things to do in Okanagan valley all year round so you’ll have a variety of Kelowna activities.

The busiest time of the year to enjoy all the activities above is during July & August (Summer). Prices will be higher for accommodations, but the city is a bustle of activity with many events and plenty of hot summer beach days.

Off-peak season is both Spring (May-June) and Fall (September-October), where many of these things to do with kids in Kelowna would be a great time of the year, but swimming in the lake will be cooler and unlikely. There is also season things like U-pick fruit and certain places that close during the cooler months.

View this post on Instagram Great views from Knox Mountain Park. The Okanagan Lake seems to go on forever, looking in every direction at this beautiful lake. Although many people may enjoy the lake during the summer months, observing the tranquility of the lake during the fall is my favourite time to enjoy nature on its own. #knoxmountain #explorekelowna #bc #canada #lakeokanagan . . . #Passportkids #familytravel #kidstravel #ftb100 #tinytravels #familytrip #familytraveltribe #tbscommunity #havekidswilltravel #tmom #lpkids #travelwithkids #familymemories #kidswhotravel A post shared by FAMILY TRAVEL | PASSPORT KIDS (@passport_kids) on Nov 4, 2018 at 8:24pm PST

Kelowna Travel Tips

  • Check out the latest events happening in the area with Kelowna Tourism .
  • The best way to pay for parking in some of the spots downtown is by using the app. Look for the number on parking meters to enter your details, parking is not free if you don’t see a meter.
  • The Kelowna airport (YLW), is a smaller airport and has rental cars available right from the airport . The airport is a quick in and out which makes it easy when you arrive and plan your departure.
  • I would recommend renting a vehicle if staying for longer than 2 days . Although there is bus transportation, and many of the places are easy to walk to downtown, the best way to get around is by car in the area since some places are not on the main roadway.
  • Be sure to check out some of the great places to see in Lake Country, West Kelowna, Penticton, Osoyoos, Vernon and Oliver if you are looking for day trips. Some great places to check out all within an hour’s drive and have Kelowna as your home base.

  • You can take the kids to wineries ! We do it all the time and they are kid-friendly we just find it’s usually not the favourite part of the day for the kids. We like to pair it with a kid activity in the morning like the Kangaroo Farm first, then head out to wineries. Visiting a winery usually takes approx 1 hour or less.
  • Here are some of our favourites wineries . There are 180+ wineries in the Okanagan region, so there is plenty to visit and taste. Many of them have great restaurants so you can make a lunch out of the visit with the kids.
  • If you are travelling from another country be sure to have travel insurance. We use World Nomads for any of our international travel and it was the one we used on our 1-year world trip.
  • Find out more about Kelowna and British Columbia with these recommended books. The Okanagan Table is a staple for any foodie.

Fun Family Things To Do In Kelowna BC You’ll Love

Almost ten years ago, Micki and I decided to make Kelowna our Canadian home base. To say we kind of like the city would be an understatement.

Nestled in the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, Kelowna is definitely one of Canada’s golden cities. You can do everything from climbing mountains in the mornings to lazing by the beach in the afternoon and then having supper at a world class winery before heading out for a night on the town.

For the kids, Kelowna has so much to offer, from water parks and beaches to adventure centers and grape stomping, plus it also has some of the best weather to be found in Canada.

We’ve had a time checking out the local sites this past decade, and now we’re passing on some of our very favorite  fun things to do with the family in Kelowna .

Without further ado, here’s our list of some of the best kids activities and family attractions in Kelowna.

Okanagan Lake

Kelowna lies on the shores of Okanagan Lake. In the summer, the city is transformed into a water lovers’ playground with eight designated beaches and ample beach access.

If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll even spot the elusive Ogopogo. A local water legend in the vein of the Lochness monster with reported sightings in the valley for the past hundred years.

For the watersport adventure crowd, you can do everything from flyboarding to jetboating to parasailing on the big lake. You can rent motorboats, jet skis, kayaks and even stand up paddle boards at the main marina in town or bring your own and use one of the three boat launches in Kelowna proper.

With a lively downtown marina, you can even moor your boat right in the heart of the city for the day while you head to the beach or the park with the kiddos, or grab a bite to eat on trendy nearby Bernard Street.

With so many beaches, there’s also bound to be a beach that appeals to you. Most are great for families and there’s even one your dog can fully enjoy.

Hot Sands Beach – City Park

The kids will love the warm sand and nice water at Hot Sands Beach . Right downtown next to the popular City Park and the marina, it’s one of the longest and busiest beaches in Kelowna. It has watersport rentals as well as the ever popular Aqua Park with over 16 oversized inflatable water activities that are great for kids or the young at heart.

Gyro Beach – Boyce

You can also check out popular, family friendly Gyro Beach , with its own watersport rentals, snack shop, washrooms, volleyball courts and playground. Gyro Beach has a very gradual beach incline which makes it great for throwing a frisbee or a ball in the water.

Cedar Creek Park

Cedar Creek Park is one of Kelowna’s only dog friendly beaches (Lake Avenue is also dog friendly, as is the Downtown Sails Dog area/Kerry Park, and Sutherland Bay Park to the north of downtown). Cedar Creek Park is off-leash, and a long pebble beach with picnic tables and washrooms that make it a great place to let your dog cool off on a hot summer afternoon while you get to relax or throw a ball with the kids.

Rotary Beach Park

Just down the road from Gyro Beach, Rotary Beach Park on Lakeshore Road has all the facilities you need to enjoy a day in the sun including picnic tables, washrooms and a playground. It’s also the city’s top kite-boarding beach.

Kelowna Parks

If you love the outdoors, but aren’t in the mood for sand, Kelowna has over 200 dedicated parks and green spaces throughout the city. We have a saying when guests come here: “ If you’re ever more than a few blocks from a park then you know you’ve left the city “. Here are a few of our favorites.

The largest and most prominent park in Kelowna is City Park. It’s adjacent to downtown and surrounded by a long paved boardwalk, and borders the very popular Hot Sands Beach.

This huge park is within steps of the marina and also features volleyball and basketball courts, expanses of green grass, a huge playground complete with a mini zipline for the kids, a free waterpark that includes a two-story water dragon slide, a skate park as well as free washrooms and change rooms.

At night and on the weekends, local artisans and vendors set up mini stalls along the boardwalk. You’ll never know what you might find since it varies from day to day.

The park is also a great jumping off point to delicious eats downtown. If you feel like a bit of ice cream, definitely try out nearby Moo-Lix Ice Cream on Bernard. Delish!

Mission Creek Park

Mission Creek Park has a large playground with swings and a great rope pyramid to climb for the older kids. There’s also a free indoor Environment Educational Center (EECO) right in the park and outside you can watch Kokanee salmon spawning in late September to early October right in the heart of the city.

There are ample covered picnic areas, washrooms and over 12 kilometers of pathways with over 3 kilometers directly along Mission Creek. In summer, there’s also a small kid friendly water channel that the kids can play in, so make sure you bring their swimsuit if you’re checking it out in July or August.

Ben Lee Park

This great little park has a free water spray area in the summer, a canteen with washrooms and an always busy skate park. In winter there’s an outdoor rink and the park has paved pathways that are great for walking or riding your bike.

Waterfront Park

This meticulously groomed park features outdoor art, meandering paved pathways and a large wooden boardwalk along Okanagan Lake with gorgeous city views. Close to some of the city’s finest dining, it also has small ponds that are great for RC boating and letting the kids sail little sailboats. Waterfront Park also has its own popular beach.

Knox Mountain

If you love hiking or even if you just like checking out beautiful views, then Knox Mountain needs to be on your list. Just a few minutes from downtown, Knox Mountain offers something for almost everyone, and we think it’s one of the best hikes in Kelowna.

You can hike, bike or drive up to the halfpoint lookout, or keep going to the top of the mountain. You can even play some free disc golf (18 holes) or tennis at the foot of Knox.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can park at the base and take the graveled pathway up the hill to the mid point lookout. It’s a bit of a hike but nowhere near as long as climbing the rest of the way to the summit. If you want to bike or run you can follow the longer paved road to the middle or top as well.

Finally, if you just want to check the amazing panoramas you can drive up the mountain and park your car at the midpoint and near the peak. From your car you can get some great views, but if you walk to the lookouts you can see most of Kelowna, Okanagan Lake and a sizable portion of the valley from up there.

On days when we feel like going for a long hike and don’t feel like climbing much, we head farther down the road and follow the path around Knox Mountain and go to check out Paul’s Tomb , a gorgeous little spot overlooking a rocky, dog friendly beach with a nice alternate view of the lake. This is a great walk with kids and dogs since it offers a lot to see, but isn’t overly strenuous.

Myra Canyon Trestles

If you thought Knox Mountain was a nice hike, then you need to check out Myra Canyon. This popular, well maintained and scenic portion of the former Kettle Valley Railway comprises 18 giant trestle bridges and two tunnels, and features some amazing views over the lake.

Stretching just over 12 kilometers, you can walk the popular portions of it or bike the whole way.

For those of you without your own bicycle, they even rent bikes right in Myra Canyon’s parking lot all summer if you need one. You can also join a tour that will explain the 100+ year long history of this historic railway stretch and the rebuilding of the trestles after the major fires in the area in 2003.

Fruit Orchards

If you’re lucky enough to visit Kelowna during the summer or early fall, you can visit the hundreds of orchards found throughout the valley. There’s a reason the popular fruit juice giant Sunrype has called Kelowna home for over 70 years. There is a ridiculous abundance of fresh, local fruit in this city.

From cherry orchards to peaches, nectarines and plums, you’ll find an orchard with all your favorite fruit. In fall it’s apple time and the town is busy harvesting. If you don’t see a loaded apple truck driving by in late August or September, then frankly you aren’t looking hard enough.

Many orchards allow fruit picking by the pound (u-pick or they pick) and there are dozens of fruit and vegetable stands throughout the city with many of them found on Benvoulin Road.

Our kids love picking their own cherries and we go to nearby, family run Arndt Orchards  a few times each summer depending on what type of cherry is ready to be picked. It’s a great way to spend a few hours while getting the whole family out together, and nothing beats the taste of ripe, fresh picked fruit. Just try not to eat it all before getting back in your car.

Kelowna Farmers’ Market

From 8 am to 1 pm every Wednesday and Saturday morning from April to November, you can check out the Kelowna Farmers’ Market which is moving to the Landmark District for summer 2024. In winter, the market moves indoors to the Parkinson Rec Center.

The giant outdoor summer market features over 165 vendors and offers everything from local fruits and vegetables to local meats and dairy. It’s a great way to see what’s in season and to try out everything from fancy cheeses to fancy jams.

The Kelowna Farmers’ Market has been running for over 20 years and also includes local artisans showcasing jewelry, handcrafted pottery, soaps, handcrafted woodwork and plenty more. Grab the kids a giant candy floss or a bucket of kettle corn and peruse the aisles of local works to your heart’s content.

Every year, we bring visiting friends and family to the outdoor market.

World class wineries

With over 200 wineries calling the Okanagan Valley home and over 30 wineries in Kelowna proper, finding a bottle of your favorite vintage is as simple as grabbing a handy Wine Trails from the City of Kelowna  and hopping in your car and spending an afternoon tasting everything from Merlot to Chardonnay.

Whether you’re checking out world renowned wineries like the sprawling and very photogenic Mission Hill Estates (which has a great hill for the kids to roll down), the amazing lake views at Quail’s Gate or eating at the decidedly tasty restaurant at  Volcanic Hills , you’ll still be just minutes from downtown Kelowna.

If you’re wondering what’s in it for the kids, Kelowna has multiple family friendly wineries where the kids are as welcome as their parents, and get their very own non-alcoholic wine to sample (aka grape or apple juice). However, if your kids are old enough and you’d rather leave them at home or at the beach for the day and be able to sample the many wines more, ahem, liberally, you can jump on one of the many wine tasting tours offered around town and let them whisk you about while providing delicious meals and entertaining commentary.

World class distillery

If you prefer vodka, gin, whisky or delicious fruit infused liqueurs over crushed grapes, then you can check out the Okanagan Spirits Distillery  right in downtown Kelowna. Coupled with their main distillery in Vernon , they produce some delicious spirits thanks to the Okanagan’s abundant fruit orchards.

The kids will love checking out the huge bubbling Jack Cousteau styled copper distiller while you try out their ridiculously tasty, award winning Blackberry Liqueur, and if you’re brave enough, a shot of their very own absinthe. Located right downtown close to the marina and park, it makes a great stop on a busy day and there’s an ice cream shop and poutinerie only a few doors away.

Skating at Stuart Park

If you happen to be in Kelowna in the cooler months (December to February), then the place to be is skating outdoors at Stuart Park on Water Street. Open from 6 am to 11 pm every day, you can rent skates right on the spot and glide along Kelowna’s largest outdoor ice skating park. The ice is groomed regularly, you can enjoy the great views of the lake and downtown while grabbing a warm cup of hot cacao and hanging out with friends.

Kelowna Indoor Adventure Centers

If you’re tired of the heat (and Kelowna gets lots of it in summer) or you’re in Kelowna during the cooler season, there are a ton of fun indoor areas for the whole family as well.

The EnergyPlex is Kelowna’s largest indoor playground for kids, with four stories of fun, including trampolines, foam pits, rope swings, a huge cube climb, a rock wall, a Ballistix Ball Range (huge foam ball shooting adventure) and a laser tag arena that are sure to tire out any active child. If you have energetic kids, this is definitely the place to bring them.

H2O Adventure and Fitness Center

H2O is the one of the largest municipal water parks in Canada. It includes a wave pool, surf wave simulator, river run, water slides and a kid’s spray park. It’s perfect fun for any age, and you can also enjoy the 12,000 sq ft of fitness and cardio space if you want to let older kids go their way while you go yours.

The Kelowna YMCA in Rutland is a huge facility with an aquatic area, gymnasium, youth zone, a 100 m walking track as well as a large fitness area. The aquatic area includes a diving pool, an eight lane lap pool and a warm lazy river complete with spray-jets and a large hot tub. You can do a drop in anytime. There’s also a smaller YMCA in downtown Kelowna.

McCurdy Bowl Center

Fun for the young or old, Kelowna’s McCurdy Bowling has a bowling lanes complete with black light, glow in the dark neon bowling for those times when you want escape a world of pastels., in addition to regular bowling We love that there are bumper guides that cover the gutters as well as roll assists to make it more fun for the smaller kids. One of our favorite pubs, Freddy’s Brewpub, is attached to McCurdy Bowling, which is a huge plus for us.

Kelowna Outdoor Adventure Centers

Feeling like you need a little outside exhilaration? Kelowna has several family friendly outdoor adventure centers that will bring out the kid in anyone.

Myra Canyon Adventure Park

At Myra Canyon Adventure Park  high above Kelowna and below the Myra Canyon Trestles you can hike or bike the trestles, jump in the saddle and go for a horse ride or test your Tarzan abilities on their well rated tree top course high above the valley.

Scandia Golf and Games

With some of the best indoor and outdoor mini golf in the valley, you can enjoy everything from bumper cars and go karts to batting cages, a huge arcade and laser tag at Scandia Golf and Games . It’s always a fun place to bring the kids. We come here a few times a year, and always have a great time.

WildPlay Kelowna

From ziplining to free falling,  WildPlay , just outside of Kelowna on Highway 33, WildPlay is an adventure playground. With 10 ziplines and a giant, 110 foot pendulum swing, you’re sure to get the blood rushing while you’re there. For everyone aged five and up, there’s the Monkido course (as in monkey see, monkey do). This climbing, ziplining, jumping and swinging obstacle course will test your mettle at heights ranging from 6 to 60 feet and is a lot of fun for everyone.

Children’s Outdoor Activities in Kelowna

Need to find something a little tamer for your kids to do outside and can’t decide which ones are right for you? Check out this list of outdoor kids activities you can do in Kelowna.

Kangaroo Creek Farm

Kangaroo Creek Farm  is a near the Kelowna airport. You can pet baby kangaroos, wallabies and even have adorable sugar gliders climbing into your pocket. Fees go to the animals. Guaranteed to leave everyone in your group with a smile.

Don-O-Ray Farm Adventure

Don-O-Ray Farm Adventure in Kelowna has a great traditional petting zoo complete with adorable bunnies and goats that you can pet and feed. They also offer a fun hedge maze, and the cost is under $10/day per person.

Kelowna Events

There’s always something happening in Kelowna, it seems, and many of the events are family friendly. There are too many to list here, but the Fat Cat Children’s Festival is well worth a visit if you’re here in June. If you love wine, I enjoyed stopping by the Kelowna Wine Country Half Marathon ‘s Wine & Music Festival at Waterfront Park with great wineries and live music.

If you’re the active type, there are plenty of fun outdoor races that are kid friendly. A few years ago, Micki and our then 10 year old son had fun at the  FoamFest 5K  race (for kids 10 and over) and they’re checking out the Freak’n Farmer Adventure Obstacle Race (with special categories for kids of all ages) at Covert Farms near Penticton for next year.

For event info, check out the event pages for Tourism Kelowna and KelownaNow  (a local online newspaper).

Tours of Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley

Want to work with a local company? Check out Red Dog Wine Tours or Wicked Wine Tours . They rate highly on TripAdvisor. Their most popular tour is the West Kelowna wine tour, but they also do tours in Kelowna proper, as well as private tours.

Where to Stay in Kelowna

Kelowna has well over 100 hotels, with plenty of options from luxury villas and hotels to budget friendly accommodation.

Luxury – The Delta Grand Kelowna

Known locally just as the Delta Grand, the Delta Hotels by Marriott Grand Okanagan Resort  is Kelowna’s most well known higher end hotel.

I’ve spent some time here during local conferences, and had a chance to tour around the hotel as well, and really love the stunning location right downtown on the banks of Okanagan Lake, with a modern and elegant feel. There’s a rooftop Jacuzzi, heated outdoor pools, a great in-house restaurant, and a fully equipped conference centre.

Check prices and availability here.

Airport Hotel – Four Points by Sheraton Kelowna Airport

The Four Points by Sheraton at the Airport is a brand new hotel, with excellent ratings.

It’s directly across from the airport (you could easily walk), with an indoor pool, and restaurant and a bar that get good reviews.

See prices and more info.

Family Lakeside Holiday Resort – Cove Lakeside Resort

Both Hotel Eldorado and Cove Lakeside Resort  get excellent reviews, but Cove Lakeside Resort wins out here because of their more affordable rates. This is a fantastic family place to hang out, as each room has a kitchenette, wireless internet access and a spa bath, and the resort has a lovely outdoor swimming pool, smaller water slide and outdoor tennis courts. There’s a sandy beach, bikes for use, and an onsite restaurant and spa.

See Cove Lakesite prices and availability.

Budget hotel – Super 8 West Kelowna

If you have a car and you’re willing to be out of the heart of Kelowna proper, you can almost always get a great rate at Super 8 West Kelowna . We stayed here a couple of years ago, and thought it was reasonable value for the price we paid (around $120/night CDN during summer high season).

It’s fairly basic, but gets solid reviews, and has a small onsite outdoor pool. Rooms also have a fridge, with is a big plus for us.

See prices and availability

Budget backpackers – Samesun Kelowna Hostel

There are only a few choices of hostels in Kelowna, and the best of the bunch is Samesun Kelowna Hostel , with clean, bright rooms and a strong social vibe.

It’s smack in the middle of the action downtown across from City Park, and even has a hot tub. Important: This isn’t a family-friendly hostel: You must be at least 19 years old to stay here and have valid government issued photo ID from outside Kelowna.

See Samesun prices and availability.

About Kelowna

Nestled in BC’s southern interior, Kelowna is the jewel of the Okanagan Valley. On the shores of 135 kilometre long Lake Okanagan, it’s only 3 1/2 hours from Vancouver by car and half an hour by plane. Kelowna is one of Canada’s warmest cities in summer, with averages around 30 Celsius (86 F), it’s also one of Canada’s warmest places in winter with most days well above freezing. This makes Kelowna a great city to visit any time of the year.

In the summer, thanks to hot weather and sunny skies, Kelowna is transformed into a vibrant beach town with tons of activities for the young, the old and everyone in between. There is something for everyone here with tons of nightlife, tons of wildlife and tons of the fun thrown in for good measure.

Kelowna is also only 30 minutes away from world famous Big White Ski Resort  and an hour from smaller but equally fun Silverstar Ski Resort. No matter the season, there’s always something fun to do.

Thanks so much for the informative post! We are originally from out West (Vancouver), now living in Ontario, and hope to move back west (interior BC) in the next few years. You have done a great job selling Kelowna as an active, kid-friendly city.

Which neighbourhoods would you recommend as being affordable, safe, and with good walkability? My kids will likely be in high school when we move back.

Hi Kris, thanks for the comment!

Kelowna has a lot of great family neighbourhoods depending on what you value most.

We haven’t been here long enough to give you a definitive list but some of our favorites are Glenmore for its character and community, Upper Mission if you want a nice home with gorgeous lake views and don’t mind a bit of a drive, Spring Valley for local amenities and affordability, Kelowna South for quick lakeside access and Dilworth for hillside views and proximity to shopping. A lot of families like West Kelowna as real estate is a bit cheaper, but it’s a bit of a drive from Kelowna proper.

There are actually great houses in all corners of the city and you really need to decide what you value most before deciding on where in the city you want to live. There are orchards and parks everywhere in Kelowna and lots of areas to explore by bike or on foot.

If you’ve never lived here before, I would suggest you rent for a while before committing to a house right off the bat. There are lots of rentals (especially off season) in town and once you’ve lived here for a while you can decide if that neighborhood is right for you.

Hope that helps!

We also moved from Ontario (Markham) and find Kelowna a great place to raise family. Lower Mission is one of my favourite neighbourhoods, you can walk to sandy beaches, restaurants, stores, great schools. Upper Mission has stunning views but it is a bit of drive. Glenmore is an other nice area for families. Kelowna is very diverse, there are lots of nice homes out there depending on what style you like and your price range.

Awesome list! Knox Mountain is definitely my favorite. I’ve studied in Kelowna for four years and still haven’t been to every destination suggested in this post, oops.

Wow! I had no idea there was so much great stuff to do there–and with kids, too! I’m looking forward to exploring more of BC next time I’m up!

Great ideas. This list will save the time and boost the trip.

Wow, Lots of things to do there. Travelling there will be a great experience.

Is Kelowna an expensive city for visitors (restaurants, hotels, etc.)?

Hi Geneviève. I would say that, in terms of costs, Kelowna is cheaper than a lot of places in Canada. Definitely cheaper than Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary or Montreal.

Parking downtown costs between $0.75 and $1.25 an hour with free evenings and weekends. Most hotels are in the $80 to $120 range even in high season. Today I had a steak sandwich, fries and Caesar salad at a decent pub for $12.

If you check out Groupon or Get In The Loop you can get decent deals on local cuisine and activities as well.

Here’s a cost of living calculator to give you an idea of comparables.

Hey Charles,

Are the prices you posted on your reply in CAD? Or, USD?

Hugo, all the prices on this Kelowna post and in the comments are in CAD (Canadian funds).

Anyone have suggestions on where to stay with small kids in a camper in Kelowna? Based on this awesome list of activities, it seems that staying in town in an RV park so we can walk with the kids places, versus the provincial park a little drive out of town, may be worthwhile?

Thanks for your Blog.

10 ideas for family friendly fun in kelowna.

To coin a phrase, you can lead your family to fun, but you can’t make them enjoy it. In Kelowna you don’t have to – family fun comes naturally and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s a list of 10 family fun things to do in Kelowna

1. hit the beach.

Kelowna and West Kelowna offer more than 30 beaches perfect for a family swim and picnic. The water is clear enough that goggles, masks and snorkels will reveal a whole new world. Bring along buckets and shovels and create a sandcastle to watch over your afternoon kingdom. Sunscreen and shelter is encouraged.

2. Scale to new heights

The reward for a climb to the top of Knox Mountain is an incredible vista that includes Okanagan Lake , downtown Kelowna and sky and mountains that seems to go on forever. Yeah, we understand the big kids are going to grumble about a long hike, so relax—you can drive most of the way to the top, grab the picnic basket and walk five minutes to the viewpoint.

A bonus: the whole route is smartphone friendly—which means the teens can keep their friends in on all the fun they’re not having.

3. Cycle the trails

Kelowna is a bike-friendly community, complete with more than 300 kilometres of on-street cycling lanes and 40 kilometres of separated paved multi-use trails. Bring your own bikes or  rent them . And make sure to check out Google maps : Kelowna was one of six Canadian cities to go live with Google Bike Routes in December 2010.

4. Putt-er about

It’s a given: everyone loves a game of mini-golf – especially the younger kids who can score an ace even as mom and dad struggle with the windmill. In Kelowna, stop at  Scandia Golf and Games  and add an arcade, bumper cars and a batting cage to the fun.

5. Do water indoors

Even though it’s good to escape the sun every once in a while, keeping the water fun going is a necessity. Check out the  H20 Adventure and Fitness Centre , which offers a wave pool, water slides, a surf simulator and river run and more than a million gallons of water in several pools.

6. Animal encounters

Kangaroo and child

The Central Okanagan is an agricultural paradise and we’re always keen to share the experience. Your wee ones can get face-to-face with a variety of animals such as miniature horses and donkeys, goats, potbelly pigs, sheep, an alpaca, bunnies, specialty chickens and ducks. You can also take the kids 'Down Under' at the  Kangaroo Creek farm  – yes, you can pet the ’roos and even hand feed a baby Joey – or hang with the birds at the Parrot Island Sanctuary in Peachland, a home for rescued exotic birds.

7. Bees, please

If bees are the knees in your home, make sure to include a stop at  Arlo’s Honey Farm . Arlo’s offer a pre-reserved educational tour that explores the honey bee's life and an up-close and personal visit with a working hive. Of course, honey is available for sale and you can also pick up soaps, candles, books and skincare products.

8. Challenge the family playground

Photo by BC Ale Trail, for Kelowna Ale Trail. Myra Canyon Adventure Park

What’s a family playground without a playground? The Okanagan offers plenty of family adventure parks that will challenge mom and dad while the kids shine. Indoors, the  Energyplex  includes a four-storey jungle gym, trampolines, bounce boards and a rock wall. Outdoors, check out Myra Canyon  and Okanagan adventure parks. Both offer aerial adventures, complete with ropes, obstacles and more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Safari Ridge in West Kelowna delivers more down-to-earth fun with themed paintball and laser tag specially designed for teens.

9. Zip it. Zip it good.

Let loose a primal scream as you race downhill with just a harness and hook keeping you from utter disaster.  Oyama Ziplines  north of Kelowna delivers a seven-station zipline course and stunning views from each of the towers. South of Kelowna, the  Zipzone Adventure Park  carries you almost 400 feet above Deep Creek Canyon.

10. Rent a boat

Beach and Water

Make the most of your Okanagan adventure by getting out on the crown jewel of the valley – Okanagan Lake. Access to a boat opens up more secluded parts of the lake, including some quiet beaches and scenic spots to just float. Powerboats are available for rent by the hour, day and even by the week at Downtown Marina , Eldorado Marina , Dockside Marina, or many of the  various locations  around the lake. You can also contract sailboat tours and fishing adventures.

DID YOU KNOW?

Kelowna is the second most northern Okanagan wine region. The name translated from the Okanagan native language means “Grizzly Bear”. An eclectic 32 wineries reside within the 3rd biggest metropolitan area in BC. It is no wonder this city is growing at alarming speed. It has a vibrant city and culinary scene, but at the same time you are only ever moments away from a winery and rural serenity.

It all started here when the first vines were planted in 1859 by Father Pandosy. BC’s oldest winery ‘Calona Vineyard’ was established here in 1932 and can still be visited in downtown Kelowna. It's now owned by the Andrew Peller Group and occupies the same building as Sandhill Wines.

Mission Hill Family Estate Winery

Welcome To The Okanagan

At Mission Hill Family Estate Winery, a single philosophy has guided us since 1981 — the relentless pursuit of quality at every turn. Over four decades, we have discovered small and unique geological pockets to plant vines from Lake Country in the north to Osoyoos in the south Okanagan.

In 1981, the Okanagan was largely undiscovered as a wine region, instead it was renowned for the quality of its stonefruit orchards. Grape growers were just beginning to take risks, planting vines in unproven terrain.

Despite these risks, the glacier-formed valley offered varying soil profiles, long, hot growing days, and diverse microclimates. These distinct subregions posed an opportunity to cultivate wine with unmistakable terroir. This potential inspired Mission Hill Family Estate Winery vision for the future of Okanagan wine.

Now, after being recognized as Canada’s only five-time winner of Winery of the Year and receiving multiple best varietal awards on the international stage, we continue to draw inspiration from the valley and the vineyards we tend to. For us, the journey is just beginning.

9 Fun Things To Do As A Family in Kelowna, BC

Canada , Cities , RV Life

(Note: some of the affiliate links in this article will pay us a commission at no cost to you if you choose to make a purchase.)

We recently RV’d as a family for a few nights in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. We spent some of the time in West Kelowna (on the west side of the Okanagan lake – truthfully, we spent MOST of our time there at the West Kelowna Skatepark) and the rest in Kelowna (on the east side enjoying both outdoor activities and Kelowna indoor activities).

Where is Kelowna?

Kelowna is part of the Okanagan Valley, a mountainous area surrounding Okanagan Lake in south-central British Columbia. The ground is so fertile. Snow melts off of the mountains watering the area. Many of the fruit and vegetable crops grown in the province of BC come from this area – grown in the foothills around the mountains.

family tour kelowna

When you’re planning your trip to the Okanagan, keep in mind that at the north end of Okanagan Lake is Vernon, and to the south end of the lake, you’ll reach Penticton, with Kelowna on the east side (halfway down the lake) and West Kelowna on the westside, along with Peachland and Summerland.

While this is all considered the Okanagan Region, around the lake, it’s about a 2-hour drive (depending on traffic) to get from Vernon on the north shore to Penticton on the south shore, so give yourself some time between planned activities, or plan your schedule based on region. If you want to be in the midst of all the action and aren’t visiting the area with an RV,  choose a hotel near City Park in Kelowna!

Experience the Okanagan for Family Vacation

We don’t typically rush to do mini-golf, or visit nearby batting cages or laser tag (although many of these activities are available in Kelowna). For family fun, we mostly choose adventure experiences that are specific to the area (with the necessary stop at an ice cream shop, of course).

While there are plenty of winery and cidery tours, we were looking for family-friendly experiences that would leave us with happy memories with our kids, and Kelowna did not disappoint.

We only had a few days for our trip, at the end of August, so here’s what we enjoyed doing in Kelowna, as well as a few things on our ‘to-do’ list for the next time we visit the Okanagan Valley.

Fun Things for Kids in Kelowna near the end of Summer (August) / Beginning of Fall (September)

Kelowna wibit on okanagan lake.

Kelowna Wibit Review

Things to do in Kelowna: Wibit on Lake Okanagan

The Wibit water park on the Okanagan Lake in City Park Kelowna was probably the highlight of the trip for our three boys (ages 6, 8, & 11). Not only is it a family-friendly water park with inflatable slides, trampolines, climbing ropes, and obstacles, but it’s floating right on the lake, so we could enjoy our time on the beach, and wade in the ankle-deep clear water that outlines City Park (right in downtown Kelowna) as our boys played – not to mention enjoy the stunning views of the mountains across the lake.

Our boys enjoyed climbing around the water park, for about 90 minutes, then our younger two had their fill. They played on the beach and in the water while our oldest burned off more energy on the floating obstacle course. Our youngest thought the lake was similar to a wave pool since the wake made by passing boaters would wash up onto the shore.

We opted to buy tickets later in the afternoon from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm, which was a discounted rate (you can get an ‘all-you-can-play’ pass for the day if you’d prefer). The discounted pass was perfect for us, and since it was August, it wasn’t too cool in the evening, and it was unlikely that our kids would have spent more time than the 3 hours we had with our pass. The water temperature in Okanagan Lake is cool in late August, but, of course, once you get in, you get used to it.

West Kelowna Skate Park

family tour kelowna

While it’s not something that our entire family participates in, our kids love it, so we’re happy to take them every now and then to skate parks. West Kelowna Skate park, tucked behind the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Center, is one of the most spacious skate parks we’ve found.

Many skate parks are tucked into a corner somewhere with very little parking nearby, but this skate park has a large parking lot behind the aquatic center. There is a large flat paved area where our younger kids could enjoy rollerskating on. There is a second area connected by a few ramps with pits to skate down into that our oldest son loved. We went back to this skate park a few times during our 2-night stay, and there were usually young teens and families using the park; they were always very friendly and respectfully enjoyed the space along with us.

City Park, Kelowna

City Park, Kelowna

From what we’ve seen of pictures online, City Park is well-maintained year-round to allow for winter walks on the paved sidewalks and bike paths. We know that our kids will definitely be asking to visit City Park the next time we’re in the area. If we were not RVers, and were wanting to visit Kelowna, we would specifically recommend choosing a hotel near City Park, near the shops and numerous restaurants, with a view of the mountains and Lake Okanagan,

Farmers Markets & Pick Your Own Fresh Fruit in Kelowna

Farmers Market Kelowna

Besides picking fruit, we also visited Kelowna’s Farmer’s & Crafter’s Market on a Wednesday morning. There was LIVE music, food trucks, and lots of local vendors with fresh produce and homemade goods. We purchased some handmade perogies to cook at home.

We also stopped at Paynter’s Fruit Market in West Kelowna  to purchase some fresh vegetables. Getting the experience of picking fresh fruit was really why we wanted to visit the Okanagan Valley, so we made a full day of visiting orchards and markets. The fresh produce is amazing here!

Stay at a Harvest Hosts Location

family tour kelowna

Harvest Hosts allow you to stay on their property – often a farm, vineyard, or orchard – and in exchange, you’ll spend about $20/adult at their location – whether purchasing a gift from their store, buying dinner at their on-site restaurant, or taking their facility tour. Instead of paying for a night at a campground, we were able to stay at the bottom for a beautiful apple orchard for free. Most host locations are dry camping (no water or electric) but some include these hookups for a small fee.

Our Harvest Host location was the Scenic Road Cidery, just outside of Kelowna. It was a perfect ‘home base’ for us since it is close to everything, including City Park and grocery stores. Check out Harvest Host locations in Kelowna, and the rest of the Okanagan! Plan ahead for best availability.

Things our Family would do next time we visit the Okanagan in BC

While we enjoyed our trip, we didn’t have time to do all of the things on our list, like make a trip to at least one more ice cream shop. Here are some things to consider for your next trip to Kelowna, and activities that are available around the Okanagan (and let us know what you enjoyed doing most!)

Myra Canyon Trestles

family tour kelowna

Myra Canyon Adventure Park

Most reviews we’ve read indicate that the trestles are about a half-day experience, so while you’re out visiting Myra Canyon, fill the other half of your day with an outdoor adventure at the Myra Canyon Adventure Park. With zip lines, ropes courses, and team-building activities, it will be easy to fill the rest of the day swinging through the trees with breathtaking scenery. A little closer than the trestles, Maya Canyon Adventure Park is about 22 minutes from downtown Kelowna, BC.

Kettle Valley Railway

Take a 90-minute ride on a restored 1912 steam engine locomotive for 10 miles through the stunning views of British Columbia, leaving from Summerland. The Kettle Valley Railway can provide a year-round experience, from Christmas light trains, or Mothers Day Rides, to a summer BBQ and mock train robbery (with live bandits on horseback) and musical entertainment.

This kid-friendly train experience has a limited schedule, so make it one of the first items you book into your Okanagan itinerary. Since it leaves from Summerland (on the southwest side of Okanagan Lake), build this experience into your schedule while staying at nearby West Kelowna, or south in Penticton.

Kangaroo Creek Farm

Sadly, we missed the Kangaroo Creek Farm when we were searching for things to do in Kelowna. We found out about the farm when we told someone that we had just visited Okanagan, and they asked if we went to the Kangaroo farm petting zoo.

Take an afternoon of hands-on interaction with kangaroos, wallabies, and sugar gliders, and get eye level with parrots and peacocks. If we had to choose one thing we shouldn’t have missed in Kelowna, it’s the Kangaroo Creek Farm.

What else is there to do in Kelowna?

Additionally, Kelowna has a wide variety of indoor mini golf, escape rooms, an indoor playground, opportunities to learn about natural and human history, and rock climbing for the adventurous. Each of these adventures are only a google search away!

How Do You Decide What to Do in Kelowna with your Family?

looking at a map

Families who take a trip out to the Okanagan can easily spend time enjoying at a wave pool, go bowling, do water activities on Okanagan Lake, experience laser tag or paintball for the first time, or play a family-friendly round of mini-golf.

When we are heading to a place we’ve never been, we often start by telling our kids about the available activities there and ask each of our 3 boys to pick one that they would really like to experience. It’s not an exact science, since sometimes we’ll have 2 boys pick the same activity, or one of our kids can’t decide what they want to do. This method also depends on how long we’re staying, and it’s also fun to throw in a surprise here and there for our kids. We often get answers all over the map since they are all different ages and each one has their own idea about what makes a great vacation.

Understand the geography of the Okanagan Vally in BC before planning your vacation schedule, and figure out the distance between the activities that you choose. Above all, be sure that you make every part of the trip a fun adventure for your whole family.

Here are some of the best Canadian family vacation destinations if you’re going East from Kelowna, or if you’re going west and staying in BC, here are some of our favorite things to do with kids in the Fraser Valley.

If you’re thinking of staying in your RV in Canada in the winter, then BC is the place to do it (like we did in winter of 2020). Here are some tips for spending winter in your RV.

With family in tow, Korea's Byeong Hun An intends to enjoy Masters return

Korea’s Byeong Hun An will make his fifth Masters appearance at revered Augusta National, and a first since 2020, but the drive down Magnolia Lane will be very different and feel extra special this week.

It will probably be a bit noisier as well in his courtesy car, with a growing family in tow.

The 32-year-old An qualified for the season’s first major through the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of last week, which marked his second straight major appearance after he played his way into The Open Championship last summer.

Lining up alongside the game’s elite reflects his resurgence following a mini-slump that saw him lose his PGA TOUR card in 2021.

“It is good to be back," An said. "I have never been to the Masters with my kids and wife, and it will be my first time with them which makes it even better. I wish to put up a good showing. It is never easy going into the Masters but I feel great,” said An, who is presently ranked 44 th in the world.

When An made his Masters debut in 2010 as the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, he was wet behind the ears and 14 years on, this week will herald his 190th PGA TOUR start where he has amassed 25 career top-10s, including three this season which has propelled him to seventh place in the FedExCup points list.

Byeong Hun An holes a 43-foot birdie putt at Arnold Palmer

With his wife Jamie, their lives now include two young children, Sunwoo, who is 4, and Jiwoo who turned 1 last month. The growing family means that An is excited for the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday, a Masters tradition unlike any other where players and their families get to be part of the fun-filled competition. Jamie will caddie for An, while Sunwoo, who is learning to play golf, may well attempt a shot during the event.

“Family life’s been great,” An said. “It takes your mind away from golf. After tournaments, you go back and you have kids around, you don’t have time to think about golf. Obviously, when you’re at a golf course, you want to think about golf, you want to work hard. It’s nice to have their support. It’s the best. When the family is around, there are more things to do. You go out for a walk, play with the kids or whatever. It takes the mind away from golf.”

His new approach to life, and towards the game, has largely been instilled by swing coach, Sean Foley whom An labeled “the Gandhi of golf.”

“He helps a lot with things away from golf," said An. "He talks about other stuff, and not just how to play. There are some things which are unteachable by other people, and he’s been a big help. I have lessons with him twice a week and we hit balls for two hours and I’ll probably hit like only 100 balls, and we talk for an hour and a half about other stuff.”

While An has yet to win on the PGA TOUR – he has five career runner-up finishes including a playoff loss at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January – the Korean knows that lining up along the stars at Augusta National is a privilege to cherish: “I have never seen a golf course managed so well like Augusta National," he mused. "With their own traditions, there definitely is some wonderful atmosphere. Every golfer dreams of playing in the Masters, so I feel great to go back.

“It is very special to us, golfers. I’m glad to be part of this but I don’t want to put pressure on myself. I will prepare just as other events. The focus is the same.”

An, whose best finish from four previous starts was T33 in 2017, will have compatriots Sungjae Im, who finished runner-up at the Masters in 2020, Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim for company at the 88 th playing of the Masters. It will also be a memorable week for Si Woo who will have his newborn son, Theo, in attendance with his wife and former Korean LPGA winner, Jihyun – who hit a shot at the Par 3 Contest last year.

“I was able to participate with my wife last year, and this year, we have one more member to the family. It will be an enjoyable week for the three of us,” said Si Woo, who is a four-time PGA TOUR winner and making his eighth consecutive Masters start.

He enters the week in good form, having not missed a single cut all season with one top-10 to go with five other top-25s.

“I'm pretty confident going into the week," said Si Woo. "Thinking back to my first Masters (in 2017 which was the only year he missed the cut), the course was tough. But as this year is my eighth, I feel a bit more relaxed as I am getting used to the golf course."

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry (L) and lead singer Steven Tyler perform in concert.

No need to “Dream On” much longer.

Aerosmith has finally announced the rescheduled dates of their ‘Peace Out’ farewell tour with special guests The Black Crowes and Teddy Swims on select dates.

The 40-concert jaunt will take the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers to arenas all over North America from September 2024 up until February 2025.

Notable shows include stops at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on Saturday, Dec. 28 and New York’s Madison Square Garden on Feb. 23, 2025.

Their last gig is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2025 at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center .

This upcoming trek will be the second attempt at rescheduling the tour; Steven Tyler sustained vocal cord damage at a Sept. 9, 2023 concert in Long Island — just three shows into their run — and the band had to postpone indefinitely.

“All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows,” Aerosmith shared on Instagram .

If you haven’t gotten tickets yet and want to sing along to “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way,” “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” and so many more hits one last time, tickets can be scooped up for all ‘Peace Out’ concerts as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 12, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Aerosmith tickets 2024-25

A complete calendar including all rescheduled ‘Peace Out’ tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Aerosmith band members

The original Aerosmtih lineup won’t be fully intact on this run of concerts.

Yes, lead singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton and rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford are slated to perform at all shows.

However, drummer Joey Kramer will be sitting this run of shows out to “focus his attention on his family and health” according to  AP News .

Kramer, 72, will be replaced by John Douglas who has drummed with the band since 2019.

Aerosmith set list

Aerosmith got three shows deep into their ‘Peace Out’ Farewell Tour before postponing.

For a closer look, here’s what they played at a recent live show courtesy of  Set List FM :

01.) “Back in the Saddle” 02.) “Same Old Song and Dance” 03.) “Rag Doll” 04.) “Livin’ on the Edge” 05.) “Janie’s Got a Gun” 06.) “No More No More” 07.) “Cryin’” 08.) “Adam’s Apple” 09.) “Hangman Jury” 10.) “Seasons of Wither” 11.) “Movin’ Out” 12.) “Love in an Elevator” 13.) “Stop Messin’ Around” (Fleetwood Mac cover) 14.) “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” 15.) “Rats in the Cellar” 16.) “Sweet Emotion” 17.) “Toys in the Attic”

18.) “Dream On” 19.) “Walk This Way”

The Black Crowes

On all dates except their opener when they’ll perform with Teddy Swims, Aerosmith will be joined by  The Black Crowes aka Rolling Stone’s “best new band of 1990.”

The band, known for mega hits “Hard To Handle” and “She Talks To Angels,” is also conducting a solo tour of their own this year including a show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on April 27.

If you want to see them live, click here to see The Black Crowes’ complete 2024 tour calendar.

Steven Tyler controversy

In 1973, the 25-year-old Tyler was given guardianship of 16-year-old Julia Holcomb so the two could live together.

After a tumultuous three-year relationship, the two broke up.

Nearly 50 years later, Holcomb — who now goes by Julia Misley — filed a lawsuit in December 2022. In the suit, she claimed Tyler sexually assaulted her, forced her to abort their child, and convinced her to drink and take drugs after he promised to serve as her guardian.

In the trial, Tyler alleged the relationship was consensual and had immunity because of his guardian status.

Legal experts have since said “caregiver immunity” does not exist if you sexually abuse the person you’ve taken in.

“The lawsuit came in the final days of California’s Child Victims Act, which temporarily lifted the statute of limitations for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to come forward with their allegations,” Consequence of Sound reported.

Jeanne Bellino, another minor that was sexually abused by Tyler in the 1970s, also filed a lawsuit against him; US District Judge Lewis Kaplan threw the case out this February because she “had waited too long to sue Tyler under a New York City law protecting victims of gender-motivated violence,” Reuters wrote.

“(Kaplan) said Bellino did not qualify for a two-year window to pursue claims that would otherwise extend beyond statutes of limitations, because she did not allege that Tyler’s conduct posed a “serious risk of physical injury.”

Madonna Shouts Out Her Cousins She Hasn't Seen in Years at the Tampa Stop of the Celebration Tour

The pop icon is currently in the midst of wrapping up the final U.S. dates of her acclaimed Celebration Tour

family tour kelowna

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Madonna is known for bringing her family along on tour, but some special guests stepped out to show their support at her concert in Tampa.

When the pop icon, 65, brought her Celebration Tour to Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday, April 4, she gave a shout-out to her cousins in the audience. Not only was the hitmaker excited that her relatives from her mother's side of the family were in attendance, she shared that it had been over two decades since she'd seen them.

According to fan-recorded footage that was shared to YouTube , the Material Girl mentioned her cousins were watching the show while taking a moment on stage to reflect on the value of family. After speaking about her children and reflecting on her late mother , she said, "One other mention is that I have two cousins that are in the audience tonight."

The seven-time Grammy winner continued, "I'm not pointing them out. I'm just saying that my mother is their aunt and I haven't seen them in, I don't know, 25 years maybe."

"I hope that you enjoy seeing them tonight," Madonna added.

The moment felt especially moving, given how the pop superstar has opened up over the years about how much her mother's death caused by breast cancer in 1963 when she was just 5 years old has affected her.

Madge gave a nod to her relatives shortly after the portion of her show, which features tributes to her mom, Madonna Louise Ciccone and her son David 's birth mother, among others, saying that it gives her "great pleasure" to see their faces on stage.

"This part of the show, and this part of my life, is extremely important to me," she said. "Everything that I have ever done in my life is meaningless compared to be a mother. I'm not trying to sound corny or anything because it is a full-time job."

Kevin Mazur/WireImage

After thanking her children David, Mercy , and twins Stella and Estere for performing every night during the tour , and noting how much she loves all of her kids (including the two eldest, Lourdes and Rocco , who don't join her out on the road), she continued to speak about how much family means to her.

The "Hung Up" singer said, "So, thanks for talking about family and motherhood and love. Right? Because that's what it's all about. That's why I'm here. That's why I still have this job because I love what I do. And also because you have been supporting me for 40 years, so thank you. Thank you for your love and support for four f---ing decades. I do not take it for granted."

She then broke into an acoustic performance of her 1989 classic "Express Yourself."

Madonna's acclaimed, long-awaited Celebration Tour  launched in October 2023 at London's O2 Arena with a spectacular two-hour set where she opened up about her  road back to the stage  following  her hospitalization last year  due to a  serious bacterial infection .

After the European leg of the tour, which lasted throughout the fall, she kicked off her shows in North American with several dates in New York City and Washington D.C. in December. Her tour resumed in early 2024 and is set to continue across the U.S. until April 15. At the end of the month, she'll take the show to Mexico City for five dates.

The Celebration Tour will officially wrap up with a special, free concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 4 at Copacabana Beach.

According to a press release, the historic show sponsored by Itaú Apresenta "will be free of charge as a thank you to her fans for celebration more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour."
