Review: FlightScope Xi Tour Launch Monitor

flightscope xi vs xi tour

There are a couple options out when it comes to Launch Monitors.   FlightScope  has been my “go to” for few seasons now and with the current upgrade I see no reason to change.   FlightScope  offers full 3D Doppler radar tracking of the ball from tee to final resting place.  This means it is not guessing what the ball did, but tracked it the entire way.  It does also have the ability to test shots indoors or into nets.  It is best to use the foil dots so that it can track the ball better in such short distances.  While there is some guessing(math equations) involved the accuracy seems to be excellent based all the data I have collected indoors compared to outdoor testing.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

The data that the  FlightScope Xi Tour collects is equal to any launch monitor out there; actually more than most.  It can tell you more information than you would most likely be interested in.  It collects it all easily on a PC or iPad.  I exclusively use the iPad app to test clubs because it is the simplest and easiest way to hit balls at the range.  My laptop just doesn’t have the battery life or portability that my iPad does.  The connection is via WiFi and makes for a quick and easy set-up once I get to the range.  The set-up and use is very simple.  While this is a complex computer, you don’t need a whole lot of tech skill to figure it out.

Below is a list of the data that is collected and stored for each shot.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

For me the  FlightScope Xi Tour offered two big upgrades over the X2 that are worth it.  The first was the more compact size.  The X2 would get very cumbersome to drag out to the range with a full bag of clubs to test.  It was almost like carrying two golf bags.  The Xi Tour actually fits in the large side pocket of my golf bag.  This is big deal because it makes it really easy and convenient to test clubs.

The other big improvement that I noticed was the accuracy of tracking my golf ball.   When I would take the X2 to a crowded range, I would pick up my “neighbor’s” golf shots from time to time.  The Xi Tour is able to focus better on just gathering the data on my shots.  It can block out the other flying objects around me.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

One of the keys to fitting is the exact details and charts to tell the golfer what the ball is doing.  While every swing is different, the results should be as good as possible.  Even high handicap golfers can get fit based off a  FlightScope Xi Tour launch monitor .  Their results might be less consistent than a low handicap golfers, but there are still certain clubs that have more ideal numbers, smaller circles and overall better results.  While some of those things can be done with just the naked eye, it is faster, easier and charted by  FlightScope  to make it simple and clear which clubs work better.  It is also data driven, not based on opinions or guesses.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

Another options for using the  Flightscope Xi Tour launch monitor is for teaching.  The club data that can be seen in the above slides helps show why the ball does what it does based on club path, angle of attach and face angle at impact.  All those things can be shown in 3d.  A good teacher that knows how to use this data and change their students swing to get better results can certainly make great use of a  FlightScope .  Not only are they telling students what is happening, they can show them.  Even the teacher can learn a thing or two from seeing the tiny angles that the  FlightScope  can track in the club head.  For many of the other Launch Monitors our there, this is an add-on feature usually driving the price even higher.  It is included as part of the standard  FlightScope Xi Tour model.

Another feature that will serve the student well is  FlightScope  Skills.  It sets up what they call a combine where you can test your ability to hit targets in a timed fashion.  Can you hit a 20 yard pitch 5 times in a row, or what about a 30 yard wide target at 165 yards, or can you stripe a drive 5 times in a row over 225 yards?  Since golf is a precision game, these skills tests or training sessions are very valuable for improving your course management.  Golf instructors could make great use of this with their students.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

Launch Monitors are becoming a necessity among golf professionals.  If you are a fitter or a teacher, having a good launch monitor is simply part of the job in 2017.  I think  FlightScope  offers the best overall package at the best price.  If you look at comparable units that give the same data with the same ease and accuracy, you won’t find a better unit than the Xi Tour Launch Monitor.  Yes the price isn’t necessarily an option for most golfers, but if you go to a teacher or fitter, you want them to have the best tools to get the job done and the upgrades found in  FlightScope Xi Tour will make fittings even better.

FlightScope Introduces Xi Tour Launch Monitor

FlightScope®, a world leader in the development and manufacturing of 3D Doppler tracking radars and launch monitors for golf and other sports, today announces the availability of its Xi Tour model. The Xi Tour is the most lightweight, portable, accurate and affordable 3D Doppler tracking radar available today. This new addition to FlightScope’s suite of launch monitors now includes the cutting-edge technology and data parameters only previously available in professional models.

“Our team is very excited to finally reveal the Xi Tour to the golf community,” said Henri Johnson, Inventor and CEO of FlightScope. “This new tour caliber model makes the same training technology as the pros more accessible for golfers of all skill levels. We also believe this will be a revolutionary tool for teachers, giving them the ability to assess and train their students with added convenience.”

All 27 data parameters are displayed while training with the Xi Tour, giving users unmatched detailed analysis of their ball flight and swing. Some of the advanced analytics now available with the new model include club path, face to path, face to target, dynamic loft, vertical decent angle, vertical swing plane, horizontal swing plane, apex height, and flight time.

“I began using the Xi Tour late last year when I began working with a new instructor. He relies heavily on numbers and analytics to perfect my swing, so having the Xi Tour when I am not face to face with him allows me to work on the changes he wants me to make to my swing,” said Matt Every, PGA Tour Player and winner of the 2015 Arnold Palmer Invitational. “I use the device every day and couldn’t have made the progress I have made without the Xi Tour.”

All of the data recorded by the Xi Tour can be viewed real time on FlightScope’s VX2 or FlightScope Skills apps, and then uploaded to My  FlightScope.com . This is the first model in the Xi series that is compatible with the VX2 app, which allows players to review video of their swing for instant analysis. Players can also integrate the device with the wireless BodiTrak pressure mat for further analysis.

Mevo vs. Mevo+: Which one is the best fit for you?

FlightScope Mevo vs. Mevo+

When it comes to golf launch monitors, FlightScope is a company renowned for their accurate performance data technology for all golfers. In its family brand, FlightScope has developed two popular tracking devices that have revolutionized the way golfers analyze their data: the FlightScope Mevo and the Mevo+. While both devices offer very specific data parameters, they have distinct features, capabilities, and price points that cater to the needs of golfers at all skill levels. Here are the differences between the Mevo and the Mevo plus, so you can decide which is best fit for you.

FlightScope Mevo : Despite its pocket size, the Mevo is an extremely functional unit with 8 full swing data parameters, challenges and games, data margins, and automatic video clipping features in the FlightScope FS Golf app. It uses 3D Doppler tracking technology to provide you with accurate data on carry distance, ball speed, club speed, smash factor, spin rate, launch angle, apex height, and flight time. These measurements are crucial in understanding the effectiveness of your swing and can help you make adjustments to improve your game.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

One of the key advantages of the Mevo is its portability. It easily fits into your pocket, and can be set up quickly on the driving range, on-course during a round, practice net in your garage or backyard, or even inside your home in a bonus room or basement. The Mevo connects to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, allowing you to view your swing data in real-time through the FS Golf app. The software also includes a video feature that automatically records, clips and saves videos of your swing alongside data from that shot so that you can view your video and data on one screen. The FS Golf app also allows you to edit that video and draw lines and circles on it, and send them directly to yourself, text or email it to friends and family, share it on social media, or send it to your coach - all directly from the app.

Also included with the Mevo and FS Golf app is FlightScope Challenges. The challenges in the FS Golf app give users the ability to practice with a purpose and test their skills. Enjoy interactive games designed to help users with distance control, consistency, speed training, and more. The three challenges available with Mevo in the FS Golf app are PGA/LPGA Challenges, Range Competition, and Long Drive Competition.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

The FlightScope Mevo is an excellent choice for golfers looking for a portable and budget-friendly launch monitor that can fit in your pocket. Enhance your game and track your progress over time with the most portable, accurate, and affordable 3D Doppler Radar.

FlightScope Mevo+ : If you are seeking a launch monitor with more data parameters, more features, and simulated golf courses, the FlightScope Mevo+ is a great option. The Mevo+ offers all of the data and features of the Mevo but includes additional data parameters, 10 simulated golf courses, customizable skills challenges and combines, and FlightScope patented Fusion Tracking technology. It may not be able to fit in your pocket, but it fits in your golf bag pocket.

The Mevo+ includes all of the 8 data parameters that Mevo features, plus additional data parameters: Angle of attack, spin loft, launch direction, spin axis, roll distance, total distance, lateral landing, shot dispersion, and shot type. Mevo+ also includes 3 putting data parameters: launch speed, total distance, and ball direction. These additional data points provide a more in-depth analysis of your game and help identify specific areas for improvement. Furthermore, the Mevo+ has a swing video integration feature like the Mevo, but with the ability to record video not only through a tablet or phone but from the Mevo+ device itself. The Mevo+ also includes a multicam feature that allows users to record video from multiple angles. All of these videos are automatically clipped and synched and can all be viewed together on one screen.

Mevo+ also comes straight out of the box with 10 simulated golf courses, 17 practice ranges, and a mini game from E6 Connect. The FlightScope E6 Connect bundle can be played on your tablet, phone, or PC and include the following golf courses:

Bay Hill - FL, USA

The Belfry - Sutton Coldfield, England

Aviara - CA, USA

Stone Canyon - AZ, USA

Wade Hampton - NC, USA

Sanctuary - CO, USA

Oslo Golf Club - Norway, Europe

Panther Lake - FL, USA

Thanksgiving Point - UT, USA

Par 3 Ocean Course - Fantasy Course

flightscope xi vs xi tour

While your Mevo+ comes with simulation capability and the ownership of 10 E6 Connect golf courses, you can also purchase more and gain access to up to 100,000 different golf courses. The Mevo+ is integrated with simulation software such as The Golf Club 2019 (TGC2019), Creative Golf 3D, Awesome Golf, and GS Pro - giving users options to choose which additional software best fits their budget and needs.

Another useful feature that Mevo+ offers is full access to the FS Skills. This app includes FlightScope designed combines, the ability to customize and create your own challenge, and compete against friends or family for the highest score. Use the FS Skills app to add some pressure to your practice with virtual targets aimed to help users improve their skills or evaluate students.

On top of everything that is already included with the Mevo+, owners of the Mevo+ are able to purchase specific upgrade add-on such as the Mevo+ Pro Package, and Face Impact Location. The Mevo+ Pro Package includes the complete D-Plane dataset which offers 11 additional parameters, some of which include club path, face to path, face to target, swing planes, low point, and more. This additional data can help golfers, instructors, and club fitters improve their game or enhance their business. Another beneficial upgrade add-on option that Mevo+ users have is Face Impact Location. This add-on can only be bought after the Pro Package is purchased, and it utilizes FlightScope’s advanced fusion tracking so you can view the precise impact location of every shot on the club face and compare it to the data for each shot. This combination of data and visual feedback can significantly enhance the understanding of your swing mechanics.

flightscope xi vs xi tour

The FlightScope Mevo+ with Pro Package and Face Impact Location add-ons is the most fully equipped launch monitor and simulator in its price range today and is an excellent choice if you are looking for the most value for your money.

Flightscope Xi Tour and X3 losing popularity?

Allenartlab.

I noticed that the prices of used Xi Tour and X3 dropped a couple of thousand dollars recently. For example, someone is selling an Xi tour for $3200 and there is also an X3 asking for $10000 (open for offers). I remember the prices used be $6000 for an used Xi Tour and $12000 for used X3. Do people start moving away from Xi Tour and X3? If so, are there better price-over-value radar based launch monitor on market these days? I am almost ready to purchase a Flightscope but the recent price drop makes me wonder whether I will be missing something better.

Thanks for your comments!

I think it is a reflection of how much closer the M+ Is (after pro package) to the X3. X3 has decided advantages but for the majority of users it’s not worth the extra $$. X3 is getting impact location this year. I assume FS has developed a method similar to Trackman to calculate a gear effect based on impact location and assumed COG indoors. Should help w representing ball flight w driver for indoor simulation. Very interested to learn more once the announcement is made.

The Mevo+ with the Pro Package is basically better than the Xi Tour.

X3 is the gold standard for ball flight and club data.  Do most people need all that the X3 does?  probably not but for those that do,  there are only a few radars on the market that fit the bill...Xi Tour, X3 and Trackman.   Flightscope would not completely render the X3 device obsolete with the release of the Mevo Plus.  My suggestion would be to call Flightscope and talk to them about the differences and see what truly fits your needs.   Go walk the tour ranges or go to Bubba or Bryson's house.  They don't have mevo's...they have X3's and for good reason.  Good luck with your search.  And no, mevo+ is not better than an Xi Tour unless you are only using it in a simulator, otherwise, your still better off with an Xi Tour.  For reference, I have used (owned) them all and currently own two X3's so I know a little bit about these radars.

  1. FlightScope Xi Tour Launch Monitor Review

The FlightScope Xi Tour retails for $9,000. The other products that FlightScope offers are the the Xi+ and the X2 Elite, which retail for $5,000 and $12,000, respectively. There are big jumps between the models. The Xi Plus measures basic ball parameters (ball speed, carry and total distances, offline) and club head speed plus vertical and ...

  2. Flightscope mevo+ vs Xi Tour

No putting on Xi for sim if that matters to you. The full flight is the major advantage. I think I'd go Mevo + and save the $1k. Just to clarify, that's no putting or chipping for sim with the Xi Tour. So sim use is the biggest disadvantage for the Xi Tour - although you can still have a lot of fun anyways.

  4. FlightScope Xi Tour Launch Monitor

  5. Flightscope X2 Elite vs Xi Tour

Based on research we are down to X2 or Xi Tour. For those that have had experience with both which one would you pull the trigger on. From what I can tell they will give me the same information one is just much bigger than the other and the X2 has a camera. Indoor and outdoor usage will be split about 50/50. X2 elite would be around $4,500.

  6. Flightscope Xi Tour Launch Monitor : Product Review

The Xi Tour is perfect for both outdoor and indoor use. It comes with an enhanced range of features as well, especially improved data analytics. It also has full simulation capabilities, supporting various simulation software options with putting, chipping, and driving. To sum up, Flightscope Xi Tour brings you the best of game analytics.

  7. X2 vs XI Tour

I have the Flightscope Xi Tour and would say it's very much worth having because of the club tracking information. Especially indoors I find Flightscope can have variations with spin but club data is always good indoor or outdoor. Depends what you want to do though. If you aren't interested in knowing that information then just ball data is ...

  9. Xi Tour? Better used options? : r/Golfsimulator

Looking at Flightscope XI Tour, Skytrak, Mevo Plus, and Bushnell Launch Pro. I doubt I'll find a good deal on a used Bushnell but we shall see. I'd like to use it mainly on range mode, but want the option to play rounds as well. I anticipate having friends over and having a good time playing some indoor golf.

  10. Xi tour vs x3

The biggest benefit (IMO) of the X3 was it adds some putting and chipping support for sim use. The X3 is supported in the newer E6 Connect, don't think the Xi Tour is supported yet (or it wasn't the last time I checked but that was a while ago). Xi Tour is supported in the older e6 v1.6 and the X3 is not, but as mentioned before no putting or ...

  11. x2 compared to xi tour

The XI tour and the x2 have the same parameters, but the x2 is older and they do not make parts for it anymore. They still support the software and the unit with the parts they have, but they are not making any new parts for it. Other then that, from my research, they are the same parameters. I love my x2 though, great unit for a great price. Jon.

  12. Flightscope Xi Tour vs X3

January 17, 2020. No, not a crazy difference at all. In fact, unless you're a pro looking to dial in single degrees one way or another, I'd say negligible...Xi is basically Trackman, whereas camera based is GCQuad. X3 married both up to sort of resolve some of the natural discrepancies that both approaches have.

  13. FlightScope Xi Tour, Xi+ and Xi

FlightScope Xi tour includes the Xi+ features and all the data points available on the X2 elite. If you want to accurately analyse every aspect of your or your student's game then this is the model for you. USD $8,995 +GST +Shipping.

  14. Flightscope X1 vs Xi vs Skytrak

The Xi is more expensive but doesn't have launch angle, side angle or spin. It has much better software. Given your requirements the X1 is the best option, you need to make sure it is compatible with short indoor mode and check the cost involved in getting the latest firmware and software. Hope that helps a little.

  16. Flightscope XI : r/golf

Last I checked the fee was ~$2500 to upgrade an Xi to and Xi+, and something similar to upgrade an Xi+ to an Xi Tour. Reach out to Flightscope via email, and you should get a detailed response regarding your upgrade options. In the past, users have figured out a way to bypass the Flightscope software lock.

  18. New Flightscope Xi Tour

Interesting. I wonder if Flightscope can patch in software to existing Xi/Xi+ owners to get the full data set of the X2. That would be amazing! [/quote] I've heard rumors from the web that smart computer people can hack the xi plus to get the full x2 data set now. Wouldn't mind saving the cash but I suppose I should probably do it on the up and up

  19. Skytrak vs. Flightscope Xi

Tweet. #1. Skytrak vs. Flightscope Xi. 02-26-2015, 02:43 PM. I am trying to decide between the two products. I will mostly be using inside my house, but it would be nice to take outside sometimes. It seems that Flightscope is better outside. I had the flightscope rep bring the Xi+ to my house for a demo. The product seemed to work pretty well.

  20. Mevo vs. Mevo+: Which one is the best fit for you?

  22. Flightscope Xi tour indoor hitting area question

At present I have a maximum of 7ft behind the ball & 10ft in front to the impact screen as hitting area. I am considering a Flightscope Xi tour but I am worried that this area is not enough as Flightscope recommend 8-11 feet behind the ball. Wondering if somebody is using a Flightscope Xi tour inside with similar area infront & behind.

  23. Flightscope(Xi+Tour/X2/X3) or Trackman personal use??

Only thing that ive noticed fluctuates is AOA, and ball speed is consistently 3-7mph higher then the quad. The ball flights in terms of left to right curvature were surprisingly accurate. Not a single shot shape was different even with small draw or fades, using the metal dot.

  24. Flightscope Xi Tour and X3 losing popularity?

Total Rating 100%. Posted March 21, 2022.
