Antonelli’s f1 test program now in full swing.

Apr.2 (GMM) Kimi Antonelli’s preparation for a future in Formula 1 is now in full swing.

Before Easter, it was reported that Toto Wolff’s 17-year-old protege was about to get two days of running in a two-year old Mercedes at Imola.

And now, La Repubblica says the young Italian will be in action at the Red Bull Ring on April 16, as part of an extensive F1 test campaign throughout 2024.

“After that, the German team wants to understand whether to choose him for life after (Lewis) Hamilton,” the Italian newspaper said.

Antonelli will also run at “various” other “European tracks”, La Repubblica said.

The Inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix was the highest profile new sporting event in the world last year, and the biggest thing to hit Vegas since the city turned its focus to spectator sports. With 315,000 fans over 3-days ( according to local news KTNV ), it easily outdrew the first Sin City Superbowl, widely considered the biggest event in American sports, which garnered an official attendance of just 61,629, the lowest for any non-pandemic game (though the single day Las Vegas event record is still held by the Grateful Dead at Sam Boyd stadium in 1995 with around 125,000 fans).

Formula One’s popularity in the United States has exploded in recent years, driven in part by the hit Netflix reality show Drive to Survive . According to Sports Business Journal , fully a third of F1 fans are new to the sport in the past four years, and the 2023 season drew an average of 1.1 television viewers per race in this country, a number which has doubled since 2018. However, according to Sports Illustrated , overall U.S. viewership was down from 2022, though interest in the domestic races remains very strong. Last year’s Miami Grand Prix drew the largest live television audience for F1 in American history, with a record-breaking 2.6 million viewers.

The 2023 Miami Grand Prix F1 race around Hard Rock Stadium drew the largest U.S. TV audience in ... [+] Formula One history.

The November Las Vegas race was so big and so glitzy it feels like just yesterday, but tickets for the 2024 edition (November 21-23, 2024) already went on sale—just this week. Yet for diehard Formula One fans in this country, the next big thing is the Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix , coming in just over a month (May 3-5, 2024).

Fortunately, attending either race is easier than ever, thanks to F1 Experiences , which was just named the official hospitality sales partner for the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix , the longwinded official name of the race. F1 Experiences in turn is a division of Quint Events , which for many years has been the U.S. leader in providing luxury travel access to high-profile spectator sports, and has official provider contracts with the NBA, NHL and many large events.

Official ticket packages with F1 Experiences include much more than just the race, including a ... [+] chance to go behind the scenes with the cars and teams (Las Vegas 2023)

I wrote a book called Fans on the nature and impact of sports fandom, and have extensively covered attending marquee and “Bucket List” sporting events for my journalistic outlets, including the Kentucky Derby (the 150 th edition is coming fast on April 4, 2024) and Superbowl, and I personally experienced Quint’s expertise at both of these. The company doesn’t sell just tickets like most brokers, they do complete hospitality packages that include tickets plus things like VIP lounges, private in-venue food, drink and entertainment, lodging (often hard to impossible to get on your own), private transfers to and from the events, usually with express entrances, and special access to extra curriculars. In the case of Formula One, these can be visits or tours of garages, pit row, team parties and much more.

Quint has always done an exceptional job with these marquee events, but their level of access for Vegas and Miami F1 just got unparalleled—in January, Quint was acquired by Liberty Media Corporation, the parent company of Formula 1 and the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Quint CEO Brian Ruede said, “Our relationship with the Las Vegas Grand Prix, coupled with our global partnership with Formula 1, provides the unique opportunity for a fully integrated and comprehensive customer offering. We look forward to the unprecedented access this will bring our domestic and international fans.”

F1 Experiences packages to the Las Vegas Grand Prix can get fans inside the coveted Paddock area.

For Las Vegas, the F1 Experiences packages just went on sale this week (March 25, 2024) and let race fans go behind the scenes, with extras such as exclusive pit lane walks, driver meet and greets (along with legends of the sport), Paddock access and very limited entry inside the F1 Garage, up close and personal with the cars.

Ticket package options run a very broad gamut from grandstands and general admission to private clubs and luxury hospitality. Prices are equally vast, and F1 Experiences’ Las Vegas 3-day packages go from $1,952 - $38,150 per person, all with optional add-ons possible.

Choose an F1 Experiences package with luxury hospitality and you will not go thirsty.

The luxury hospitality category includes spots such as the Paddock Club and the ultra-exclusive Wynn Grid Club, which offers 360-degree views of the track, an outdoor terrace between turns one and two, and free flowing high-end drinks and food. At the very top of the pantheon, F1 Garage is considered the most luxurious option at the entire race.

More affordable but still luxurious Club options include Club Paris, with indoor and rooftop viewing, Club Overtake in covered outdoor terraces along the high-speed straightaway, and the Turn Three Club. The least expensive package option is the T-Mobile General Admission, an outdoor section beneath the breathtaking new Las Vegas Sphere, with live performances on the T-Mobile Stage and a festival atmosphere.

Optional extras you can add to ticket packages include a broad choice of hotel lodging, with the high end including the double Forbes 5-Star Wynn Las Vegas, the Forbes 4-Star Aria and Forbes 4-Star Venetian. You can also add access to the Heineken Silver Stage, pit lane walks, guided track tours, helicopter flights, legend and ambassador appearances, guided paddock tours, Paddock Club rooftop access and more.

No city puts on a show for visitors quite like Las Vegas, but F1 Experiences has similar packages for the Miami Grand Prix. This race debuted a year before Las Vegas, and 2024 will be the third annual edition. While Vegas is a street race held at night on public roads—including the famed Strip, Las Vegas Boulevard—the Miami version is in the bright Florida sun on a track built around Hard Rock Stadium, home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. Thee’s even a waterfront with yachts, evoking the feel of the world’s premier Formula One venue, Monaco.

Luxury VIP F1 venues pack in bells and whistles for fans, like these race simulators

3-day packages for the Miami Grand Prix are more affordable than Vegas and range from $1,199 - $16,999. The most notable luxury viewing options still available include the Paddock Club, the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team Suite in the Paddock Club, and the Legend F1 Experiences Suite in the Paddock Club, all of which can be combined with rooftop access. The most affordable options are Grandstand packages, offered in several tiers, some of which include food and drink hospitality.

They have the same kind of extras such as guided tours of pit lane and the paddock, meet-and-greets with F1 drivers and legends, and the opportunity to walk the track. There are a choice of premium race viewing locations, VIP hospitality, luxury accommodations and transportation.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

F1-owned hospitality firm upping the ante in Las Vegas for ’24

Formula One’s parent company recently acquired a hospitality company that will enhance the VIP experience at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Formula One’s parent company recently acquired a hospitality company in a bid to enhance the VIP experience at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

In January, F1 parent company Liberty Media announced it had acquired Quint, which at the time was valued at $313 million. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei said in a press release announcing the acquisition that Liberty is looking to bring “one-of-a-kind opportunities to fans and increase efficiency in the ticketing distribution ecosystem.” Quint and F1 are operated as separate companies.

Quint provides enhanced experiences for over 90 events through more a dozen partnerships, including with the NBA, Kentucky Derby, the NHL, NASCAR and the Open Championship. It is now the official hospitality sales partner for Formula One.

“Our relationship with the Las Vegas Grand Prix, coupled with our global partnership with Formula 1, provides the unique opportunity for a fully integrated and comprehensive customer offering,” Quint CEO Brian Ruede said in a statement released last week. “We look forward to the unprecedented access this will bring our domestic and international fans.”

Quint’s F1 Experiences program, which was launched in 2017 before Liberty Media acquired the company, will give insiders access to luxury hospitality and club tickets to the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled to take place Nov. 21-23. The upscale packages include the opportunity for tours of the track, walking the pit lane, paddock access and opportunities to meet drivers and legends of the sport.

Three-day F1 Experiences packages via Quint for the Las Vegas Grand Prix went on sale Monday and start at $1,952 for general admission tickets in the T-Mobile Sphere Zone, $4,089 for club tickets in Club Paris and $16,350 for tickets to the Paddock Club.

The most expensive package offered by F1 Experiences is the three-day F1 Garage pass that’s listed at $38,150. It includes access to the paddock, the restricted inner circle of F1 races, access to the Paddock Club rooftop at the F1 pit building, a pit lane walk, F1 legend and ambassador appearances, a guided track tour, access to various areas of the course for photo opportunities, podium access to celebrated the top three finishers of the 2024.

“Liberty Media acquired Quint with the goal of expanding Liberty Media’s live entertainment portfolio and creating operating efficiencies across Formula 1 and other partner platforms — today’s announcement is just the first step in realizing the potential of this acquisition,” Renee Wilm, Las Vegas Grand Prix CEO, said in a statement. “We could not be more excited to launch the public on-sale for the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix in partnership with the newest addition to the Liberty Media family of companies.”

2024 Japanese Grand Prix: How to watch, schedule, and odds for Formula One racing

A surprising Formula One Australian Grand Prix saw three-time defending champion Max Verstappen retire from the race with a rare mechanical problem. For just the second time in the last year and a half, someone other than Verstappen won a race as Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. took the win.

After a week off, the grid heads to Suzuka for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Suzuka Circuit is one of the older races on the calendar and first appeared on the F1 calendar in 1987. It's the only figure-eight type of course in F1 and features fast corners, slow hairpins, and a section of esses. It's one of the more popular races with drivers and has a history of enthusiastic fans.

SUZUKA, Japan (AP) — George Russell spoke for the first time about his dramatic crash with Fernando Alonso in the Australian Grand Prix last month and said Thursday that race officials need to respond quicker to such incidents to avoid a catastrophe.

Russell described his fear of sitting in a crashed car unprotected on the track, where drivers reach speeds of 250 kph (155 mph).

“It was an incredible position to be in,” Russell said of the crash at Turn No. 6. “You’re on a blind bend, 250 kilometers per hour, right on the racing line with the car half upside down. You’re waiting for a disaster to happen.

“Fortunately, I had a 10-second gap behind me. And I think it was 10 or 12 seconds before the safety car came out. But in the space of 10 seconds you can have five, six, seven cars — if that was on lap one of the race — and probably been hit numerous times even with the yellow flag.”

Russell called for a quicker response time and the use of technology to help get the safety car out faster.

“We need to find a way that if a car is in a danger zone, it’s automated straight away, within half a second or so, because those seconds count and lives are at risk. It’s time with the technology that we have now to make steps in this area.”

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz of Spain sprays champagne as he celebrates after winning the Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park, in Melbourne, Australia, Sunday, March 24, 2024. (AP Photo/Scott Barbour)

Alonso was given a 20-second penalty for what stewards called his “unusual maneuver” with Russell behind him. That description of his move could entail braking and driving slowly, which could impede other drivers.

Russell, speaking before Sunday’s Japanese GP, said he saw Alonso in a coffee shop days after the Australian race.

“We both move forward from this,” Russell said.

Asked if he had talked to Alonso about the incident in the coffee shop, he replied. “No, we didn’t. He didn’t get my coffee, though.”

Russell said drivers have a right to brake, downshift or speed up to get the right “racing line.” But he suggested limits.

“When we start braking in the middle of the straight, downshifting, accelerating, upshifting again, then braking again, I think that goes beyond the realm of adjusting your line,” Russell said, calling it “one step too far.”

“I don’t think what Fernando did was extraordinarily dangerous, but it will open up a can of worms if it wasn’t penalized.”

Carlos Sainz won the Australian GP just over a week ago. Curiously, the Ferrari driver will be out of work next season with Lewis Hamilton arriving from Mercedes.

So the Spaniard is job hunting.

“I mean, talking to a few (teams) because that’s what my management team and myself should do when I don’t have a job for next year yet,” Sainz said.

He has no move to announce but he wants to have one soon.

“The only thing I would say is that, yeah, it’s time now to speed up a bit everything and hopefully we can get it sorted sooner rather than later.”

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who stepped away from Formula 1 after the 2022 season, is reportedly interested in returning. Perhaps to Mercedes to take Hamilton’s place — though that’s probably a long shot.

Mercedes driver Russell was open to it.

“Sebastian’s a great person and he’s a four-time world champion and, for sure, his personality is missed on the grid,” he said. “It’s important that we have the best 20 drivers in the world all competing for race wins and championships.

“I’m really happy and open to have anybody as my teammate, you know, whether it’s a world champion, whether it’s a rookie. It doesn’t change how I go about my business. And, yeah, as I said, we’ll welcome anybody.”

SUZUKA LOVE AFFAIR

The Suzuka circuit, a figure-eight layout in central Japan, is always a driver favorite. The consensus puts the track among the quickest in F1 with its high-speed corners and tight surroundings.

“The narrowness makes it challenging,” said Sainz, who has a best finish of fifth at Suzuka. “The fact that if you put a wheel off the track, it’s grass or gravel and penalizes the driver. And then the feeling of speed that we have here is, I would say, similar to a track like Imola.”

Max Verstappen, winner of the last two Japanese GPs, called the course “quite intimidating.”

“Because it’s so narrow, if you make a small mistake, you can go off in the grass or gravel. It just adds a bit more to it than some other tracks where you can run wide, you take the tarmac and you can come back on track,” Verstappen said.

“I love this track,” said Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda, who said he may have driven 1,000 laps at the circuit.

“Maybe, I don’t know, 10,000 laps,” he said, obviously exaggerating.

Fellow Japanese Ayumu Iwasa will drive for RB in the first practice session on Friday, replacing Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo is off to a slow start but will drive the second practice session, qualifying, and in Sunday’s race.
