Taklong Island National Marine Reserve

Located in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, Taklong Island National Marine Reserve is a group of islands that cover more than 1,000 hectares of land, including mangroves, seagrass beds, and coral reefs with diverse marine life. In Taklong Island National Marine Reserve (TINMR), there are only a few facilities, and they use battery-stored electricity from solar panels to light up at night, which is why it's one of the must-visit eco-tourism sites in the Philippines .

In addition to the beautiful white-sand beaches, sandbars, and eco-trail, you can also visit several caves. As you wander around, you will come across various facilities within TINMR, such as the UP-Visayas Marine Station, a gazebo, a floating guardhouse, a conference room, an eco-trail, a watchtower providing a 360-degree view, and an information center. Take the chance to swim in the shallow waters by the floating cottage.

7. Isla Naburot

Isla Naburot, located in the municipality of Jordan, is a private island resort with a heartwarming backstory. It was originally built as a vacation home for the owners. With six huts or villas, each meant for one of the six children in the family. The tranquil retreat gained popularity, and so they opened the resort to guests.

The accommodations are simple, and while they have solar power, electricity may only be available sometimes. The main hall is a charming open-air wooden structure. The island's untouched beauty offers breathtaking nature views, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway off the grid. During your stay, you can enjoy fun activities like swimming and snorkeling.

Baras Cave in Jordan, Guimaras, is another well-liked tourist attraction on the island. This small cave has two entrances that are reachable by boat. The enchanting Baras Cave has contrasting features, such as the mix of sharp and smooth stones, shallow and deep lagoon areas, and the interplay of light and dark through several small cave entrances.

Inside the cave, you will be greeted with a sight of stunning stalactites and stalagmites. It's a great spot for swimming. You can explore and swim inside the cave and appreciate the stunning rock formations. Remember to wear appropriate footwear for a safe and enjoyable adventure.

Located in Nueva Valencia in Guimaras, the Guimaras Floating Cottage sits on clear waters, offering a peaceful escape surrounded by the nearby islands. Here, you can swim and snorkel to explore the vibrant marine life beneath you or relax on the cottage deck, savoring the breathtaking ocean views.

The floating cottage accommodates up to 50 people, and during the hot summer, it's best to stay for a couple of hours to give others a chance. ABOUT SEE & DO EAT & DRINK STAY BUDGET ADVICE

Travel Insurance

Less than 20-minute boat ride from Iloilo City lies Guimaras Island, an island province in Western Visayas that used to be a sub-province of Iloilo until it acquired its provincial status in May 1992.  The fifth smallest province in the Philippines in terms of land area, the whole island can be explored for a few days.

While its most known for its sweet mangoes and various mango products, Guimaras is frequented by tourists, especially those from Iloilo to enjoy its white sand beaches with blue green water.  The topography of the island varies from level to steeply sloping and considering that its roads are not congested, the island has become a favorite destination among runners and cyclists.

Guimaras Island Location Map

Best Time to Visit

It’s best to visit the Philippines during the dry season .  Dry season in the Philippines spans from November through April .  These are the summer months in this country.

Be aware that temperatures and humidity levels are particularly high in April and May .

The best time to be a beach bum and explore the islands is from March to May.

TIP:  This guide recommends that booking for Guimaras Island summer trips should be done as early as possible, at least a month before your travel dates, since resorts get fully booked early.

The period from June to October is the rainy (wet) season and is best avoided due to the high possibility of typhoons. The typhoons can not only be destructive, but most tours and activities are cancelled under such circumstances.  Transportation via plane and boat is also seriously impacted as well.  This happens frequently so beware!

This guide recommends traveling to Guimaras Island in April-May or in November-December , just before and just after the rainy season. This will likely bring fewer crowds, yet pleasant weather, and is also a great time to score a travel deal.

SEE & DO

The following is your guide to places to see and activities to enjoy while on Guimaras Island.

1 | Hike the Balaan Bukid

Literally means Holy Mountain, Balaan Bukid is a pilgrimage site wherein tourists and Catholic devotees can hike the 558-foot mountain dotted with The Stations of the Cross which depicts the significant events in the life of Jesus Christ.  At the top is a chapel and a huge cross which can be seen from the coast of Iloilo City.  The top also offers a scenic view of Iloilo City and Iloilo Strait.  Balaan Bukid is open year-round but it gets crowded during Holy Week, particularly every Good Friday when the Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid , a passion play on the death of Jesus Christ, is being done.

2 | See all the beaches

Guimaras has several pristine beaches and that made people flock the island for a quick weekend getaway.  Alobijod Beach is the most popular beach on the island but Tatlong Pulo Beach, Baras Beach, Guisi Beach, and Tando Beach are equally interesting.

3 | Explore the island through cycling

With its varying land elevation which ranges from 0 to nearly 300 meters above sea level, exploring the island can be made more exciting when you do it using a bicycle or motorcycle.  Aside from the paved roads, you can take the off the beaten path to discover the unspoiled beauty of the island.  If you’re from Iloilo, you can easily transport your bicycle or motorcycle via the pumpboat although you can find some rentals on the island.

4 | Island hopping

Island hopping is one of the most popular activities for tourists on the island.  The usual jump off point for island hopping is at Alobijod Beach but you can find boats for rent in any part of Guimaras.  The rent of the boat ranges from P600-P800 ($12-$16 USD) per hour and charges P200-300 ($4-$6 USD) per hour for succeeding hours.

5 | Experience eat-all-you-can mangoes

Guimaras is known for its sweet mangoes and even dubbed as the Mango Capital of the Philippines .  You can enjoy eating as much mango as you can for only around P100 ($2 USD) during the Manggahan Festival (Mango Festival), an annual festival to showcase the fruit and the province in general.

6 | Visit a mango plantation

Complete your trip to Guimaras with a visit to a mango plantation.  Be surrounded by lush greenery and hundreds of mango trees in a wide expanse of land.  You can take a brief stroll at Oro Verde Mango Plantation or learn more about mangoes at the National Mango Research and Development Center.  Best time to go is when it’s mango season which is between April and May.

7 | Spend a quiet moment at Trappist Monastery

While it seems deserted when looking from the other side of the fence, Trappist Monastery is actually a popular tourist spot in Guimaras.  Inside the compound is a chapel where visitors can spend some quiet moments to pray and meditate.  Further inside are the living quarters of the monks.  The monks are known on the island and the entire Iloilo for making the best mango products such as jams, dried mangoes, mango butterscotch, and mango barquillos.

8 | See the windmills up close

Head to San Lorenzo Wind Farm to see the windmills up close.  These windmills are standing on the top of the hills so you can also take a glimpse of some parts of the island from above.

9 | Nearby Destinations

Iloilo is the most convenient way to get to Guimaras.  Might as well explore the city when in the area.

NOTE: The Manggahan Festival occurs annually in Guimaras Island every 22nd of May.

Klook

EAT & DRINK

The following is your guide to the flavorful food to enjoy and restaurants to try while on Guimaras Island.

1 | Cafe Conchita

Located along the main road and business district of Jordan, Cafe Conchita has an inviting ambience.  The restaurant serves a variety of Western and Filipino dishes, all-day breakfast, and fantastic cakes, particularly mango cheesecake.  The price is a bit high for local standards but then with the quality of food, good ambience, and great customer service, the restaurant is worth trying.

2 | Celian Seafood

Celian Seafood is an open-air eatery specializing in seafood and local dishes.  They take pride in using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients.  Customers can even choose fresh seafood displayed at the restaurant and have it cooked based the way they want.  Try their kinilaw (ceviche), shrimp – butter garlic, and mixed seafood adobado.

3 | The Pitstop Restaurant

If there’s only one restaurant you can go to when in Guimaras, it definitely should be The Pitstop.  The restaurant is the pioneer and known for its mango dishes, particularly the Mango Pizza.  In addition to the pizza, the restaurant also incorporated mango into other dishes such as mango beef bulalo, mango spaghetti, and pork adobo.  Conveniently located in the busy part of Jordan, The Pitstop is one food establishment you shouldn’t miss.

Suggested Budget

Use the chart below to get an idea of how much to budget daily.  Actual amounts will depend on YOUR travel style. Keep in mind these are daily averages … some days you’ll spend more, some days you’ll spend less. Prices are in USD.

Travel Costs

Accommodation.

A bed in a  hostel  dorm costs from 350 PHP ($7 USD), but smaller dorms can cost from 500 PHP ($10 USD).  For a private double, prices start around 700 PHP ($14 USD).

Most  budget hotels  begin at 700 PHP ($14 USD) per night for a double room and usually include free wifi and breakfast.  For  a three-star hotel , prices begin around 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.   AirBnB  is also widespread throughout the country, with private rooms starting from as little as 500 PHP ($10 USD) per night.  For entire apartments, expect to pay at least 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.

Resorts and luxury accommodations  vary greatly from 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) to 5,000+ PHP ($100+ USD).  However, there are some really nice resorts and luxury accommodations which are surprisingly affordable.

We use and recommend booking online to save money using  HostelWorld ,  Agoda , and  Expedia .

Local food is extremely cheap, with street food costing under 50 PHP ($1USD).  For an inexpensive meal at a local restaurant, prices start around 100 PHP ($2 USD).  For a meal at a mid-range restaurant with drinks and table service, expect to pay from 200 PHP ($4 USD).  Knowing that their target customers are primarily tourists, Western food venues can be pricey compared to Filipino food.  Also, some of the ingredients need to be imported, which contributes to the higher cost. Western food (burgers, pizza, pasta, etc.) is much more expensive but is still relatively affordable at around 200 PHP ($4 USD) for a meal and drink.

Fast food like McDonalds will cost around 200 PHP ($4 USD).  A beer at the bar will cost around 50-100 PHP ($1–2 USD).

A week’s worth of groceries will cost between 300-600 PHP ($6-12 USD) per person.  However, food in this country is so inexpensive, and kitchens & refrigerators are hard to come by, I don’t recommend cooking your meals here since there is plenty of delicious street food to eat at very cheap prices. You won’t make it as good as they do and the food is too delicious to miss!

Transportation

There are many modes of transportation available in the Philippines and each varies greatly.

Public Transportation is cheap.  Bus services on the islands are inexpensive.  Local buses (called jeepneys) are the most common type of transportation in towns and cities. The fare is usually between 7-25 PHP ($.20–.50 USD).

On islands without a bus system, a taxi or tricycle is the only form of transport with fares starting at 50-500 PHP ($1-$10) USD for short trips.

Taxis are everywhere, and they’re very cheap.  Most fares shouldn’t cost you more than 500 PHP ($10 USD) around town.

To get between islands, you’ll need to take a boat or to fly.  There are ferries that connect the island together since they aren’t too far apart but, generally speaking, flights are the most realistic option.

Flights between islands usually cost about 2,000-3500 PHP ($40-70 USD).  However, this isn’t the cheapest way to travel.  It’s only recommended if you have limited time.

We recommend booking online to save money using:  Skyscanner ,  momondo ,  Kayak ,  kiwi.com .

Attractions & Activities

Most attractions and activities in the Philippines are pretty cheap. Most attractions throughout the area are FREE to enter, though some of the more well known and popular ones cost 5-100 PHP ($.10-$2 USD) to enter.

Depending on the activity, most day tours only cost around 1,000-1,500 PHP ($20-30 USD), oftentimes less.  You have more bargaining power if you go with a group. If you are expecting to do some climbing, remember to pack some warm layers. It gets cold at the top!

Other activities such as Island Hopping, scuba diving, helmet diving, swimming with whale sharks, jungle trekking, canyoning, ATVs, jet skis, wakeboarding, cruises, parasailing, horseback riding, cultural experiences, and tours can cost as much as 1,250-5,000+ PHP ($25-100+ USD).

The Philippines is one of the least expensive places to learn how to scuba dive. Learning to scuba dive usually costs about 15,000-20,000 PHP ($300-400 USD), but often includes FREE accommodation for the duration of the course, which lasts three or four days.

Always book your tours and activities when you arrive.  Stick to travel agents who are selling on the ground. If a travel agent won’t negotiate with you, move on to the next until you find one that will.  Booking tours online is almost always more expensive.

Typical Costs on Guimaras Island in 2023 :

The following is some of our best advice on traveling to Guimaras Island.  Learn what you need to know BEFORE you go!

Tips & Hacks

he following are our Top 10 Tips when visiting this destination in the Philippines:

  • Be aware that a tourist VISA is only 30 days. You can extend it upon arrival, or within the first 30 days, for an additional 30 days for a fee of approximately 3,000 pesos.
  • Don’t buy into the fear factor. The Philippines has an unjustified reputation of being a dangerous place. It’s true there are security guards everywhere, but that is to deter theft.
  • Manila is NOT the Philippines. Get outside of the cities to see the real Philippines.
  • Don’t over plan. Boats, buses, and even airplane schedules are notoriously unreliable. Be flexible.
  • Check the weather. The weather varies greatly throughout the Philippines daily.
  • Typhoons can have a huge impact on your plans. Account for this when planning your trip.
  • It’s not cool to raise your voice or show outward frustration in public.
  • Be polite at all times. Realize that your country’s sense of humor may be different from Filipino humor and take this into account when interacting with Filipinos and while in public places.
  • Things move at a slower pace. Accept it … don’t get frustrated … but do account for it.
  • Don’t drink the tap water… but stay hydrated! Save money by buying large bottles (6-10 liters) of water and using it to fill your water bottle or hydration bladder in your backpack.

Money Matters

The Philippines has its own currency called the Philippine Peso. Banks, ATMs, and money-changers can be found on the island. If you are exploring the neighboring islands or provinces, make sure to bring enough cash that will last until the next time you get to an ATM or bank since most tours, transportation, and budget accommodations only accept cash.

Health & Safety

While overall the Philippines is a safe country to visit, as is Guimaras Island, you need to use common sense just as you would in any country, especially when traveling, and in a city, town, or area you are unfamiliar with.

Consult your hotel or resort front desk as they are more likely to give you reliable information than a random stranger on the street. Be careful when approaching strangers and selective about who you approach. Always pay attention to your gut feeling and follow it.

Staying Connected

You need to have a local-based SIM card in order to stay connected when in the Philippines. Network giants such as Globe and Smart have SIM cards you can use to make calls, send text messages, and also to connect to the Internet. A SIM card costs around 50 PHP ($1 USD) and usually comes with a FREE load worth 50 PHP ($1 USD). You can buy a card containing a code you can enter on your phone to replenish your load or buy an electronic load that is available almost anywhere in the city.

While you may not have problems with signal strength when in the city, it is not always the case when on islands or in remote areas of a province.  So when arranging for transportation pick up, say when renting a boat to take you to and pick you up from the island, it would be best that you make it clear what time you need to be picked up before the boatman leaves.

Recommended Travel Apps

Apps for smartphones and tablets can be useful both before you leave and while you’re traveling.  Most are available for iPhones and Android phones.

This guide recommends to take note of the following while traveling on Guimaras Island or in the Philippines in general.

There is a nationwide ban which prohibits smoking in public places including indoors, the streets, on sidewalks, in restaurants , and on public transportation, requiring smokers to use designated smoking areas.  Selling tobacco to and purchasing from or for minors is also prohibited. Violators are subject to fines (up to 5,000 PHP | $100 USD) and even 4 months in prison.

The minimum legal drinking age is 18.  Alcohol such as beer and hard drinks can easily be bought in grocery and convenience stores.  The most common alcoholic beverage is beer, generally served cold.  Local alcoholic drinks include tuba (coconut wine which is usually very strong) and potent moonshine-like clear liquors made from sugar or fruit.  Imported beer, wine, and name brand hard alcohol are available but expensive.

Drugs are illegal in the Philippines.  Don’t use, buy, or sell any non-prescription drugs while in the Philippines … not even marijuana.  It is considered an especially heinous crime to buy from, for, or sell drugs to children.  The penalties are severe … up to and including death.

Public nudity is illegal in the Philippines and is not tolerated.  Most locals consider it offensive.  There are laws which prohibit provocative and erotic clothing and swimwear, therefore carefully consider your clothings and swimwear choices to make certain they are not too revealing.

Foreigners & Expats

If you are not a Filipino citizen, remember that you are a guest when visiting this country … be certain to act accordingly.  Respect the people, their customs, and the environment and wlidlife. You can be deported and banned … so behave … but have fun and enjoy all that this wonderful destination has to offer.

GUIMARAS ISLAND TOURIST SPOTS | THINGS TO DO

NAVALAS CHURCH

NAVALAS CHURCH

The Navalas Church built in 1880 to 1885 is the oldest existing Catholic Church in Guimaras Island. It is said that this Guimaras Tourist Spot used to have a four feet tall bell but was taken and dumped into the sea near the area of Siete Pecados. To date, the interior and other parts of the church are already modern but the old facade made of coral stones and stone fence remains untouched.

TRAPPIST MONASTERY

Founded in 1972, the Trappist Monastery on the island is the only Trappist monastery in the Philippines. Many visitors visit this Guimaras Tourist Spot because they have a pasalubong center selling their own food products such as mango jam, polvoron, mango tarts and much more. The place is also available for retreats.

ROCA ENCANTADA

ROCA ENCANTADA

You might get curious about some buzz about Roca Encantada (Enchanted Rock). The place is the summer vacation house of the Lopez Clan. Built atop a rock but since some landscaping was made the appearance of the rock cannot be noticed anymore. Constructed in 1910, despite its modern architectural design, the mansion was declared by the National Heritage Institute as a heritage house.

This Guimaras Tourist Spot offers an amazing vista and the famed Islas de Siete Pecados which can be seen from the balcony.

HOLY FAMILY HILLS

The Holy Family Hills is a religious site that also attracts various tourists visiting the island. Numerous life-size statues are dotting the place with the big statue of the Holy Family being the focal point as you enter the place. The life-sized station of the cross statues is spread along the area which caused pilgrims to visit the place, especially during the Lenten season.  This  Guimaras Tourist Spot has a  Chapel and a Prayer room.

SAN LORENZO WIND FARM (GUIMARAS ISLAND WINDMILLS)

Another Guimaras Tourist Spot you should visit is the 27 windmills constructed in San Lorenzo.

Just like the windmills in Bangui, Ilocos, these windmills also attract tourists visiting the island.

The windmills are sporadically constructed atop the hills of the place giving the tourists nice vistas.

NATIONAL MANGO RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Located in  Circumferential Rd, Jordan, Guimaras, the National Mango Research and Development Center is specializing in Research Extension and Production of Mangoes. The place has 8.87 hectares of planted mango used for production and research.

Made of metal, the Guisi lighthouse is already rusty and the new one is already installed adjacent to it. This Guimaras Tourist Spot offers an amazing view of the sea, especially during sunset.

TAKLONG ISLAND NATIONAL MARINE RESERVE

Taklong Island National Marine Reserve is located in Nueva Valencia. Covering a total area of 1,143.45 hectares (has.), with 46 islands and islets and 963.45 has. of marine waters that are home to various species of flora and fauna, including corals and seagrasses.

The floating cottage is duly operated by San Roque Coastal Environment Program Association (SARCEPA). While at the place you can enjoy swimming while enjoying the sceneries of this Guimaras Tourist Spot.

HOW TO GET TO GUIMARAS ISLAND

The nearest airport in Guimaras Island is the Iloilo International Airport. From the airport, you can take a van which will drop you near SM City. From SM City, you can take a taxi to bring you to Parola wherein pump boats are waiting to bring you to Jordan, Guimaras.

Several Shipping companies are passing Iloilo City , and from the port just proceed to Parola in Iloilo to bring you to Jordan.

Travel time from Parola to Jordan takes 15 minutes. The frequency of pump boats traveling to the island is not a problem due to the number of passengers traveling.

Getting Around Guimaras

Jeepneys are available to bring you to your destination. However, the most popular mode of transportation in Guimaras is by Tricycle. One tricycle can take a maximum of 5 (but largely built people, maybe 4 would be the maximum.

Navalas Church is the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Guimaras. Travel time atleast 5 hours with 20 college students. I choose this destination because Behavior is vital in humans, especially inside the church, but also in all that goes on.1st behavioural problem Disruptive conduct When a kid constantly shows off, upsets the teacher and other students, and otherwise disrupts the classroom, that student is typically asking for unwarranted attention. The student’s self-esteem may be low, therefore he needs attention and special treatment to make himself feel important.I dealed it as a teacher by Involve the student in problem-solving activities. How do you make the kid feel seen and heard without causing a disruption in mass? The goal is to devise techniques to deal with the student’s bad conduct that do not need continual mass interruptions.2nd Helpless and withdrawn behavior Any instructor has a difficult challenge when a pupil seems weak and unable (or unwilling) to execute even the most basic duties. This youngster feels so inferior and inept that she wishes to discourage the instructor from expecting anything from her. She cannot fail if there are no expectations. Handle it by While the learner is watching, the teacher performs the proper behaviour first. JONALYN DEGABI 3F3

Classrooms usually contain 43 individual students. As a teacher, I want them to witness the antique beauty of the Navalas Church in Guimaras. But, there are 3 common behavioral problems that I must consider that cannot be avoided during a field trip. Some of these are noise, not paying attention, and inappropriate manners. To deal with these situations, a teacher must be patient when encountering this kind of student. As a teacher, to start planning a field trip, make some sort of plan or set of rules by providing guidance on what might happen before going to Navalas Church. Encourage every student, give them some sort of advice, and scold them in a good way when things are not right, because every action can lead to destruction.

Behavior is vital in humans, especially inside the church, but also in all that goes on. This is the location I chose with 20 students because I believe it will be beneficial to us.I also understand that everyone has a hidden problem that can only be revealed via prayer. Going to church will not immediately solve the situation, but it will alleviate the animosity. because I am aware that many of my pupils are struggling with financial and familial issues. There is nothing wrong with going to church on a rare occasion since you know you have a decent heart and no one is treading on anyone. This vacation was chosen because I believe the children will learn more from the priests and see good practices in their surroundings.I admit that I am not religious, but going to church is not a terrible thing, and at a distant location, this is my destination with my pupils.

' src=

Behavior problem that I may encounter is the no manners, no respect others/ property, and absentminded student. To deal with this behavior ill make sure that all of my student aware that were not in are country to act casually so we have to mind our manners and bahave. And I’ll suggest that wear a t shirt that there’s a school name printed. Andrea Isabelle C. Palma BSIT 3F3

If I am a teacher I would definitely bring my students in guimaras because there’s a lot of beautiful places in there and also I wanted them to try the guimaras mangoes and other delicacies in guimaras , I wanted to show them the churches and also the museum , while having a field trip it is my responsibility as a teacher to take good care of my students and most problem in a field trip is some student get separated and some are being curious and accidentally break things , and to prevent that from happening I am going to do headcounts every hour to know if someone is missing and also to tell my students to be extra careful.

The Guisi Lighthouse is the one that we chose from the article that we would take our Grade 6 six students for a field trip. A total of 20 students are participating. Estimated travel time would be at least 5 hours. We have observed at least 3 behavioral problems. The first one is being too much dependent or needy of their parents. These children might be excited to be on their long hour fieldtrip but after a while they would start missing their parents, others might have panic attacks. The best way to resolve this is to initiate fun games and songs throughout the trip or if they are refusal in calming down we would give them candy or snacks if they would stop having tantrums. Another behavioral problem we observed is the refusal to cooperate. Some kids have these problems simply because most of them are shy especially in large groups, others have limited knowledge or intimidated by similar peers or authorities like teachers. We would resolve this problem by empathizing with the children, put yourself on their point of view that way we could know how to solve or approach them without initiating negative reinforcement. Positive reinforcement could also help them to cooperate. For example praising or cheering to encourage them to participate then patting their backs to backs to show them positive response. Last but not the least is the fear of heights. There’s no denying that children have fear of heights. Our best solution is to go by batches since there are two teachers we would alternate in guiding the children going up the lighthouse the other one maintaining the students down the lighthouse and so on. We would lead them by group of five holding each other’s hands forming a straight line carefully climbing the lighthouse then the same way on going down and so on. As a teacher I gathered 15 of my high school students to have field trips . We decide to have our field trips in Holy family hills in Guimaras. It was a perfect place for student activities and engaging programs. It was huge area to be held for their outside activity that will help them to improve their skills of every student that are participate not just in just school but outside of the campus. I choose holy family hills because it is a religious site that possible the students will be responsible in knowing the do’s and don’ts in the whole field trip. It was good spot that will give energy to the students because of the ambiance and the view they will surely enjoy and take away their stress during the trip. The 3 behavioral problems that we encounter in our field trip are first the students not following the rules some students are not responsible for their belongings and some students are not staying with their group. 2nd leaving without informing their teachers some students go to other places and leave without informing the teacher and the 3rd one is misbehaving some students is shouting out, laughing and talking and not paying attention while giving the instructions. As their teachers we are responsible to watch over the students because if something happens to one of them, their parents will blame us. We deal it by telling them the things that we need in field trip and we will explain to them what they should do and what they should not do and explain all the rules if they don’t follow the rules they will have a consequence that will be done when we go back to school. As a teacher we are very responsible for everything to be successful our outside activity this activity is our biggest role and to make sure their field trip is safe and successful and make sure they enjoy themselves s and learn a lot. Destination: Holy Family Hills Students might mishandle their gadgets, do idle talk often (irrelevant conversations which can be disturbing), and procrastinate (attitude of postponing essential tasks).

How will we deal with these: 1. Students must be divided into teams and each team must have a leader. Each member has to surrender their gadgets to their leader and the leader will do the same. The leader will keep the gadgets or pass it to the teacher and return it to them if necessary or during their free time. 2-3. Because they are into teams, the most behaved and obedient teams will be given recognition and reward. The noisiest and undisciplined team will receive a penalty and deduction of points. As their teacher also, they will be given a due or particular time in doing their personal tasks, and later be given an activity that will help them reflect. This way, they will be challenged and encouraged to participate and follow the rules.

I want to take my students for a field trip to NAVALAS CHURCH. This is the first destination in Guimaras that I want my students to go to. During school field trips reprimands are inevitable, not listening to the speaker in the middle, talking to the neighbor and not avoiding sacred things. So while on a trip, I would confront my students by telling them not to be critical and to be respectful to the people they interact with. Listen to the speaker in front and do not talk to the person next to them. The place we are going to is sacred and should be respected. We should be pleasant, good leader, respectful, kind and good mannered and never show rudeness to other people.

If I would imagine myself as a teacher, and I’ll be having a field trip with my students, I choose San Lorenzo Wind Farm in Guimaras as our destination to relax, enjoy and have fun. Considering that we’ll spend our time together, these are the possible behavioral problems that I will be encountering during the trip. Some of these measures are: The first problem is the absence of organization and discipline, particularly when it comes to eating, is the first issue. Some kids skip meals altogether and only eat in the vehicle. To deal with this behavioral problem, educate and make them understand the rules and regulations that they should follow while visiting other places so that they will be able to learn something new and interesting. The second issue is the conduct of some pupils, who act inappropriately among instructors and their peers. They could struggle to interact with others appropriately or comprehend what they are expected to perform on a field trip with this behavioral problem, make sure that they know how to behave properly in order for them to gain respect from the people around them and thus avoid getting into trouble with them. The third problem is that some students get bored easily due to a lack of activities or because they can’t find anything interesting for themselves in their surroundings. To deal with this behavioral problem, make them appreciate the surroundings even though they are not used to visiting those places. Sometimes, destinations that don’t have those extravagant activities, can be your most memorable travel experience.

We would choose the Navalas Church. Except from being historical, We want our students to experience something magic by touring them inside and learning the background of the church and by also listening to the Father’s homily and praying. 1. The patience of the student – because of the distance, most of the students probably lost their patience. To deal with it I’ve prepare a historical story about Navalas Church for them to have a knowledge and historical background to use maybe in the near future. 2. Noisy students – Having a noisy students is not new to all teachers especially here in the Philippines. And for us to avoid that kind of behavior, We will make a rules when touring around the church. just like we would make the noisy students pray the “Our Father” 20 times since we are in the Navalas Church also for them to realize that being playful is not okay especially in places like churches. 3. Inappropriate usage of gadgets – We all know that most of the students have their own gadgets. If the students won’t participate or cooperate in our trip and only focusing to their phones, we would confiscate their gadgets for them to realize that we came to that place to learn the history of the Navalas Church not to use the gadgets inappropriately but we will return it to them after our field trip.

Holy family hills.

3 behavioral

Impatient, Side conversation And Pushy students. I will deal with it by talking to them to keep quiet and listen to their teacher. As a teacher I will still positive and use kind words and I will tell them to move in the right direction. And I will be the one to encourage them on how to be calm and quiet voice can do to help my students.

If I were a teacher I will pick the San Lorenzo wind farm. It is located up hill so the wind is strong and fresh and you can see a nice view above there

Behavioral problems that may encounter 1. Unpleasant sound or noise – I can deal with it by telling them that if any one can be quiet till we came in the destination the drinks for lunch is my treat. 2. Disobedience- to deal with this situation I think a mind game can be helpful play a game then tell then a short story about the place where you going. 3. Motion sickness – while traveling motion sickness is always there as far as I know if I will be in charge I will change the sits of the sick student and make him/her sit in the front of the car open the window for fresh air and I will tell the driver to stop every hour to let the students rest outside and also to breathe fresh air.

As teachers will bring 10 students to the Holy Family Hills on Guimaras Island. This place is religious it is good for a retreat because in this place our students will be familiar to the different statues of Saints. While we were in a retreat or a field trip we can’t avoid some behavioral problems from our students. Some of this are being noisy, uncooperative, and clumsy. Having a noisy, uncooperative, and clumsy student a teacher should make a rules before going inside of a religious place. Before starting the tour we must explain the DO’S and DON’T to our students. We must keep an eye to students who says noisy, uncooperative and clumsy. As a teacher we are responsible for the safety of our students, and as a selected student on a field trip they represent the name of the school.

' src=

If I was going to decide, I would take my 12 students at the Navalas church in Guimaras island. Traveling especially with your students, it is hard to avoid behavioral problems. It is inevitable that one of my student went missing for sometimes he/she are distracted watching the view, but I’Il be dealing that by grouping them with three members per group so that when I’m not around they can look dor each other. Now we all know that traveling at some places can get us hungry most of the time, my students usually forgetting to bring food especially if no one is reminding then to bring food. As their teacher, it is my responsiblity to remind them of all the things that they need to bring in the field trip. Mostly in field trip, students may find it boring especially that students doesn’t really have an interest in church thing, what I’ll will going to do is to entertain my students and giving them a little trivia about the navalas church, so that at some point the students will be interested and learned a quick history at the same time.

Guimaras is a small island province in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines . It is in the strait between two larger islands, Panay and Negros .

Understand [ edit ]

guimaras tourism office contact number

Guimaras is south of Panay and north of Negros . It is close to Iloilo City and was once administered as part of Iloilo Province but is now treated as a separate province. It is one of the smaller provinces, with a land area just over 600 km 2 (233 mi 2 ) and population around 175,000 as of the 2015 census.

The island is well known for its sweet mangoes, which are one of the main income sources for most families.

The locals speak the Hiligaynon (Ilongo) language, same as in Iloilo and Bacolod.

By boat [ edit ].

From Panay Island. Take a 15-minute boat ride from Iloilo City to Jordan, through the Guimaras Strait. As of 2024, most of the Guimaras-bound passenger ferries leave Iloilo from the terminal near CityMall Parola, at the easternmost tip of Iloilo City Proper (at the mouth of Iloilo River); the service is frequent, and is almost round the clock. There are also a few ro-ro ferries (transporting vehicles along with foot passengers) every day, sailing from the RoRo port in LaPaz, on the opposite (left) bank of Iloilo River. (Older guidebooks may send you to Ortiz Wharf in downtown Iloilo, but as of 2024 there are no ferries there, and the wharf itself has been occupied by squatters).

On the Guimaras side, the passenger ferries arrive to one of the two ports, Jordan or Buenavista. The ro-ro vehicle ferries have a separate port, also in Jordan. For schedules and ferries check F.F. Cruz Shipping or Navimar Shipping . Their web sites tend to be somewhat stale though, so at least the schedule has a clearly stated effective date, it may be wise to check the info directly with the company.

The boat trip used to be dangerous, as squalls ( pugada or subasko in Hiligaynon ) are known to form over the strait during rainy season, and on August 2019, over 30 died after three pump boats capsized under strong winds caused by a severe squall. As of 2024, boats are bigger and more reliable. For many years, plans have existed to replace the boat service with a road bridge across the strait, but every year the planned construction start date is moved further into the future; as of early, no actual construction work seems to take place yet.

From Negros Island. As of 2024, ferries may also run from Negros Island (the port of Pulupundan) to Guimaras. This service started and stopped several times over the last few years; contact Navimar Shipping for the current schedule.

Get around [ edit ]

Unlike the larger islands of Panay and Negros, Guimaras does not have a network of Ceres bus routes. Some jeepneys do operate on the roads between the island's major towns, but at much lower frequencies than, say, in the Iloilo metro area. Most of the public transportation in Guimaras, therefore, is by tricycle.

Upon arriving in Jordan port, proceed to the Tourism Center just a few meters from the drop-off point. From there, you can ask for assistance about budget accommodations and how to get around. There are also several mini-van and tricycle drivers who offer tour rides.

There are several driver-guides who can be contacted prior to arriving in Guimaras:

Connect [ edit ]

As of 2024, cell phone service is available in many parts of the island, but, generally, not in its farther south-western reaches, where there are no major towns.

Go next [ edit ]

Nearly anyone leaving Guimaras will start with a ferry ride to Iloilo City , or (if the Negros-Guimaras service is operating) to Pulupundan (south of Bacolod ). There are no other routes unless you have your own boat or charter one.

Iloilo has an airport, a seaport, and bus connections to anywhere on Panay . It serves as a regional transport hub; from there you can reach anywhere in the Philippines and there are a few international flights as well. One popular destination is the resort island of Boracay , just off Panay and reachable starting with a bus journey from Iloilo to Kalibo .

A short ferry ride from Iloilo gets you to Bacolod , capital of Negros Occidental ; from there you can easily reach anywhere on Negros Island or continue to the expat-friendly Dumaguete or the main urban hub of the entire Visayas region, Metro Cebu .

2024 Ultimate Travel Guide to Guimaras Island

Table of Contents

W hen you think of sweet mangoes in the Philippines, most people recommend those from Guimaras Island. Just a boat ride from Iloilo, it was part of that province until 1992. It is among the smallest provinces in the country, but it makes up for its small size with sheer lush greenery and natural attractions. In this Guimaras Island Travel Guide, We will show you why this island is a perfect day tour destination from Iloilo. If you plan to experience most of the tourist attractions in Guimaras, we also listed the recommended island hopping and land-based tours available on the island.

Guimaras Island Travel Guide

It was formerly Himal-us, a derivation of the word “paghimud-us,” which means to struggle for survival. With its popularity as a destination for pleasure-seeking tourists and adventure seekers, it no longer has to struggle quite a lot. Here is a quick travel guide for those who want to visit the “Mango Capital of the Philippines.”

Mangoes galore in the Guimaras Manggahan Festival

Guimaras is an island in Western Visayas, surrounded by fascinating islets. This island is overflowing with natural attractions, inviting adventure seekers and pleasure travelers.

This island will truly satisfy its visitors. Guimaras has also been blessed with beautiful beaches with white sand. And, of course, when you say Guimaras, who can forget the mangoes? After all, their mangoes are one of the reasons that make this province known to almost everyone.

How to get there

There are no direct flights to Guimaras. The easiest way to get to Guimaras from Manila or anywhere else except for Bacolod or Negros Occidental is to fly to Iloilo on any daily flights offered by Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, or Philippine Airlines.

Iloilo to Guimaras Travel Guide

Iloilo is the best jump-off point because it is only a 15-minute ferry ride from Ortiz Wharf (to Jordan, the capital) or Parola Wharf (to Buena Vista).

Passenger Banca / Boat

  • Coming from Ortiz Wharf, you can hire an outrigger boat bound for Jordan Wharf in Barangay Rizal, Jordan.
  • From Parola Wharf, you can hire an outrigger boat bound for McArthur’s Wharf in Sto. Rosario, Buenavista. The standard fare is P50, and the discounted fare for students, minors, and Senior Citizens is P35. The travel time is about fifteen to twenty minutes.

Choose which one is nearer to your location.

  • You can ride a RORO if you have brought a car with you. You can ride a RORO from Lapaz, Iloilo City to Port San Jose, Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan.

Best Time to Visit Guimaras

They say the best time to visit the island is during the summer (April to June) to enjoy and indulge in the beaches better. This is the perfect time that you will be able to explore the island to your heart’s content.

What You Need To Wear and What You Should Bring

What you will have in your suitcase is important to consider when visiting this beautiful island. You should bring shorts, a set of nightwear, and T-shirts and don’t forget your swimsuit. Don’t forget to bring toiletries with you.

Of course, you should also bring undergarments, gadgets, and diving gear if you are interested in that adventure. Also, don’t forget to carry sunscreen, for you will probably get a bit of tan while exploring.

What To Expect

When visiting this island province, the first thing you will probably look for is where you can get mangoes and taste the most famous food.

They say you can explore the island in 2 days by sea and land.

What To Do: Guimaras Tourist Spots, Interesting Activities

There are several destinations on this island that you will enjoy to your heart’s content. The GUISI Lighthouse is an 18th-century Lighthouse that was built for Mariners. This was their guide when passing the Guimaras and Iloilo Strait. This Lighthouse is almost falling apart, but this is the 2 nd oldest Lighthouse in the country.

World's Sweetest Mango

You can also drop by the Holy Family. If you feel that stress is hitting you, this is one of the best places to go. Even the not-so-religious people will appreciate this place as it boasts of a station of the cross with life-sized statues.

Another place you can go to is the Taklong National Marine Reserve.  This is where you can appreciate the mangroves for yourself. You can also hear the birds’ chirping and the ocean’s serene sound. You can also see the corals because the water is very clear.

Don’t forget to add the Ave Maria Islet to your island-hopping itinerary. You will enjoy the fine white sand and a good view of the reef, with a wide selection of fish and coral.  You can also go snorkeling here and have a chance to feed the fish.

Guimaras Island Tours

If you land in Jordan or Buenavista Wharf, you must register at the Jordan tourism office. You can also get a tourist map there if you would rather DIY a tour of the island instead of hiring a tricycle driver as a tourist guide. If you booked into a resort, you must go to Nueva Valencia, PhP250 per tricycle (suitable for four people).

Guimaras Land Tours

If you hire a driver as a tour guide, the standard rate is PhP1,200 to PhP1,500.  You might want to charter a multi-cab if you are a large group. The tourism office can help you with that.  Attractions that are part of the standard tour are:

  • Mango Research Center (Jordan)

Addressing these challenges is essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability and prosperity of Guimaras. The path forward involves not only overcoming these challenges but also leveraging them as opportunities for growth, innovation, and sustainable development. As Guimaras continues to navigate through these issues, its commitment to preserving its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and the well-being of its people remains steadfast, guiding the island towards a resilient and sustainable future.

Continuing the exploration of contemporary issues and challenges in Guimaras, the focus shifts to the critical aspects of economic diversification, healthcare, and education, which are pivotal in shaping the province's future.

Economic diversification is a significant challenge for Guimaras. While the province has traditionally relied on agriculture, particularly mango cultivation, and tourism as its economic mainstays, there is a growing need to broaden its economic base. This diversification is crucial in building resilience against market fluctuations and environmental changes that could impact its primary industries. The provincial government is exploring other potential sectors such as fisheries, renewable energy, and small-scale manufacturing. By diversifying its economy, Guimaras can create more employment opportunities, reduce poverty, and enhance its economic stability.

The healthcare system in Guimaras, while having made significant strides in recent years, still faces challenges in terms of accessibility and quality. The remote areas of the island sometimes struggle with limited access to medical facilities and healthcare professionals. To address this, the provincial government has been investing in healthcare infrastructure, including the construction and upgrading of hospitals and clinics. Additionally, programs to train and retain medical staff are being implemented. Improving healthcare services is not only about treating illnesses but also about preventative care and health education, which are key to raising the overall health standards in Guimaras.

Education in Guimaras is another area where challenges persist. While literacy rates are high, and the island boasts a university and several educational institutions, there is still room for improvement in terms of the quality of education and the availability of resources, especially in the less developed areas. The local government, in partnership with educational organizations, is working to enhance the educational infrastructure, develop curricula that meet modern standards, and provide training and development for teachers. Special focus is given to vocational and technical training programs, which are crucial for equipping the youth with skills that are relevant in the job market.

Another challenge that Guimaras faces is maintaining its cultural identity amidst modernization and development. As the island becomes more exposed to external influences and the influx of tourists, there is a risk of diluting its rich cultural heritage. Preserving the traditions, languages, and customs of Guimaras is vital for maintaining the island's unique character. Efforts in cultural preservation include promoting local arts and crafts, supporting cultural festivals like the Manggahan Festival, and integrating cultural education in the school curriculum. By keeping its culture alive, Guimaras not only enriches its own identity but also contributes to the cultural diversity of the Philippines.

Finally, the challenge of inclusive development in Guimaras cannot be overstated. As the island develops, it is crucial to ensure that all segments of society benefit from the growth. This involves addressing disparities between urban and rural areas, providing equal opportunities for women and marginalized groups, and ensuring that development projects are environmentally and socially sustainable. Inclusive development is about creating a society where everyone has the opportunity to prosper and contribute to the island's progress.

In conclusion, the contemporary issues and challenges facing Guimaras are diverse and complex, touching on every aspect of life on the island. From environmental conservation and economic diversification to healthcare, education, and cultural preservation, each challenge presents an opportunity for growth and improvement. Tackling these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach, involving the collaboration of the provincial government, local communities, private sector, and international partners. As Guimaras continues to confront these issues, its resilience, adaptability, and commitment to sustainable and inclusive development will be key to its success. The future of Guimaras looks promising, with the potential to become a model of sustainable development and cultural richness in the Philippines and beyond.

12. Future Prospects and Conclusion

As we delve into the future prospects of Guimaras, it becomes evident that this island province in the Philippines holds immense potential. This section will explore the various dimensions of Guimaras' future, considering the initiatives, plans, and visions that are set to shape its trajectory. From economic development to environmental sustainability, cultural preservation to societal advancement, Guimaras stands at a pivotal point in its history.

The future economic prospects of Guimaras are promising, with a focus on diversifying and strengthening its economic base. The provincial government is looking beyond the traditional sectors of agriculture and tourism to explore new avenues for growth. This includes the development of renewable energy sources, such as expanding the San Lorenzo Wind Farm, which not only contributes to the province’s energy needs but also positions Guimaras as a leader in sustainable energy in the region. Furthermore, there is potential in expanding the fisheries sector, with an emphasis on sustainable practices and modernization to increase productivity and efficiency.

Another area of economic development is the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). By supporting local entrepreneurs through training, access to finance, and market linkages, Guimaras can foster a robust business environment. This approach not only boosts local economies but also creates job opportunities, contributing to the overall economic resilience of the island.

Tourism will continue to be a cornerstone of Guimaras’ economy, with efforts geared towards sustainable and responsible tourism. The charm of Guimaras lies in its unspoiled natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, which will continue to attract visitors from around the world. Future tourism development will focus on eco-tourism initiatives, community-based tourism projects, and the promotion of cultural tourism. These initiatives aim to create a sustainable tourism model that benefits both the local communities and the environment.

In terms of environmental sustainability, Guimaras is set to continue its efforts in conservation and rehabilitation. Protecting the island’s rich biodiversity, particularly its marine ecosystems, is a priority. Initiatives such as mangrove reforestation, coral reef protection, and sustainable fishing practices are expected to be intensified. Moreover, environmental education and awareness campaigns will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among the residents and visitors.

The future of Guimaras also shines bright in terms of cultural preservation and societal development. The island’s rich tapestry of traditions and customs will be actively preserved and promoted. This includes supporting local festivals, arts, and crafts, and integrating cultural education into the school curriculum. By nurturing its cultural heritage, Guimaras not only maintains its unique identity but also enriches the cultural landscape of the Philippines.

In the realm of education and healthcare, Guimaras is poised to make significant strides. The focus will be on enhancing the quality of education, expanding access to educational resources, and promoting vocational and technical training. In healthcare, the aim is to improve access to quality medical services, especially in remote areas, and to strengthen public health initiatives focusing on preventive care and health education.

The challenges that Guimaras faces, such as climate change, economic disparities, and infrastructure needs, will be addressed through comprehensive and inclusive strategies. These challenges present opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and resilience-building. The involvement of local communities, government agencies, private sector partners, and international organizations will be crucial in overcoming these challenges and realizing the island’s full potential.

In conclusion, the future of Guimaras is one of optimism and promise. The island is on a trajectory towards sustainable and inclusive growth, balancing economic development with environmental conservation and cultural preservation. The initiatives and plans in place are a testament to the commitment and resilience of the people of Guimaras. As the island navigates the path towards its future, it holds the potential to become a shining example of sustainable development, cultural richness, and community vitality. The journey ahead for Guimaras is not without its challenges, but with its strong foundations and clear vision, the island is well-equipped to face the future and thrive.

Continuing the exploration of Guimaras' future prospects and conclusion, we delve further into the initiatives and visions that are set to shape its trajectory. The focus will be on infrastructural development, community engagement, and the broader role of Guimaras in the regional and global context.

Infrastructure development is a crucial aspect of Guimaras' future prospects. The island's growth is significantly tied to the improvement of its physical infrastructure, including transportation, utilities, and communication networks. The provincial government's plans include upgrading the road network to enhance connectivity between different areas of the island and with mainland Philippines. This will facilitate easier movement of people and goods, boosting local businesses and tourism. Modernizing the ports, especially Jordan Port, is another priority, aiming to improve maritime transport efficiency and safety, essential for an island like Guimaras.

Utility services, particularly electricity and water supply, are also areas of focus. Investments in renewable energy sources are set to increase, reducing the island's dependence on external power sources and promoting environmental sustainability. Enhancing water supply systems, especially in rural and remote areas, will ensure that all residents of Guimaras have access to clean and reliable water, a basic yet crucial aspect of human development.

Community engagement and empowerment are central to Guimaras' future. The local government is keen on fostering a participatory approach to development, where the residents are active stakeholders. This involves including community voices in decision-making processes, especially in matters related to environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and local governance. Strengthening community-based organizations and supporting grassroots initiatives are ways through which Guimaras aims to build a robust civil society, integral to the island's sustainable development.

The role of Guimaras in the regional and global context is also set to evolve. The island's strategic location in the Western Visayas region and its rich natural and cultural assets position it as a significant player in the areas of tourism, environmental conservation, and cultural exchange. Guimaras' commitment to sustainable development aligns with global goals and initiatives, allowing it to contribute meaningfully to regional and international discussions on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable tourism.

In the global arena, Guimaras has the potential to be a model for island sustainability. Its efforts in balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship and cultural preservation can serve as a blueprint for other island communities facing similar challenges. The international community's increasing focus on sustainable development and climate resilience presents opportunities for Guimaras to share its experiences, learn from others, and engage in collaborative projects and partnerships.

Furthermore, Guimaras is set to strengthen its economic ties within the ASEAN region and beyond. By promoting its products, such as the world-renowned Guimaras mangoes, and showcasing its tourism potential, the island can tap into wider markets and attract international investment. This economic expansion, however, will be pursued with a keen awareness of the need to preserve the island's environmental integrity and cultural heritage.

In conclusion, the future of Guimaras is replete with opportunities and possibilities. The island stands at a crossroads where the paths of development, sustainability, and cultural identity intersect. The journey ahead is undoubtedly challenging, but with its strategic plans, committed leadership, and the resilient spirit of its people, Guimaras is poised to navigate these challenges successfully. The vision for Guimaras is not just of economic growth and infrastructural development but of a holistic and sustainable future where the environment is cherished, culture is celebrated, and communities thrive. As Guimaras continues on its path of progress, it remains a beacon of hope and a testament to

the possibilities that lie in embracing sustainable development and community engagement.

The vision for Guimaras is one of inclusive growth, where every resident, from the fisherfolk and farmers to the small business owners and youth, can partake in the island's prosperity. The focus on education, skill development, and healthcare will ensure that the population is well-equipped to contribute to and benefit from the island's growth. The youth of Guimaras, empowered with education and opportunities, are poised to become the torchbearers of the island's future, driving innovation and progress.

Guimaras' approach to its challenges and opportunities reflects a deeper understanding of the need for balance – between tradition and modernity, between economic growth and environmental preservation, and between individual needs and community welfare. This balance is crucial in maintaining the island's unique identity while navigating the path of development.

In the realm of tourism, Guimaras is set to become an example of how to grow a tourism industry that is ecologically responsible and culturally sensitive. The promotion of eco-tourism and cultural tourism will not only attract visitors seeking authentic and meaningful experiences but also ensure that tourism development does not come at the cost of the island's natural and cultural treasures.

The environmental initiatives of Guimaras, particularly in marine conservation and renewable energy, are expected to garner greater attention and support. These initiatives, coupled with the island's natural beauty, make Guimaras an attractive destination for environmental research and eco-friendly investments. The island's commitment to green policies positions it as a leader in environmental conservation efforts in the region.

In terms of infrastructure, the aim is not just to build more but to build smart and sustainable. Future infrastructure projects will be designed with an emphasis on minimizing environmental impact, incorporating green technologies, and ensuring long-term sustainability. The development of infrastructure will go hand in hand with the preservation of the island's ecological balance.

The cultural fabric of Guimaras, rich and vibrant, will continue to be a source of pride and identity for the island. Efforts to preserve and promote the island's cultural heritage, through festivals, arts, and education, will not only keep the traditions visit guimaras alive but also attract visitors and scholars interested in the rich cultural tapestry of the Philippines.

In the broader regional and national context, Guimaras' future lies in being an active and contributing member of the Philippine archipelago. The island's development, while unique to its context, will continue to be aligned with national goals and policies, ensuring that Guimaras moves forward in harmony with the rest of the country.

Ultimately, the future of Guimaras is a story of hope and aspiration. It is a narrative of a community that is aware of its strengths and challenges and is determined to chart a course towards a sustainable and prosperous future. As Guimaras embarks on this journey, it does so with the spirit of unity and the resolve to preserve its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and the well-being of its people for generations to come.

Guimaras Hotels

Guisi Beach and Lighthouse

Visitors to Guisi Beach and Lighthouseare rewarded with beautiful island seascapes of Guimaras and the charm of its heritage. Situated at the southwestern coast of Guimaras, Guisi Beach is blessed with golden-yellow sand, emerald green waters, stunning rock formations, and an 18th century Spanish-colonial lighthouse. The beach sits in a natural enclave, which is protected from harsh sea currents and strong winds. The sand in Guisi might not be perfectly white or fine but its alluring waters and rugged coastline more than make up for it.

Guisi Beach

Guisi lighthouse.

The Guisi Lighthouse is an 18th century Spanish-colonial lighthouse built beside the beach. It was built to guide mariners passing the Iloilo and Guimaras strait. The lighthouse can be reached by following a light trail. The 15-minute uphill trek to the Guisi Lighthouse also provides a great view of the beach. At the top of the hill are the ruins of a Spanish-colonial outpost and the rotting remains of the metal lighthouse structure. Although the condition of the old lighthouse is already in disarray the Guimarasnons take pride in having the second oldest lighthouse, next to the old lighthouse in Aparri, Cagayan.

Guisi Rock Formations

At both sides of the Guisi beach are interesting rock formations which can be easily reached easily during low tide. Beach bums can  relax at the hidden beach pockets or get a dose of adrenalin by jumping  from one of the low cliffs. Island hopping tours are also available from the locals of Guisi. It’s an excellent way to explore even more stunning rock formations and beach coves near Guisi.

Guisi Beach Resorts

Traveling to Guisi is possible even as a day trip. It is just 15 to 20 minutes away from Raymen Beach Resort in Alubihod, Guimaras. Though, there are a few accommodations options available in Guisi such as:

Guisi Clearwater Resort

  • Rates – Rooms from P800

How to get to Guisi Beach Guimaras

Guisi Beach is one hour and 30 minutes away from Iloilo City. The first leg of the journey is the 15-minute ferry ride from Ortiz Port in Iloilo City Proper to Jordan Wharf in Guimaras. Look for the Guimaras Tourism Office located at the waiting shed outside the arrival area of the Jordan Wharf. The tourism officer can arrange your transportation to Guisi Beach or any destination in Guimaras. There’s a set rate for vehicle rentals regulated by the Guimaras Provincial Government. No need to worry about over-priced rates. Guisi Beach is 45 minutes to 1 hour away from Jordan Wharf. Rates for multicabs (8 to 10 people) and shuttle L300 vans (10 to 14 people) start from P500 per vehicle.

Taking the passenger jeepney is the cheapest option especially for independent travelers. The jeepney loading/unloading station is located near the exit of Jordan Wharf (past the waiting shed). Just ignore the crowd of touts and tell them that you’re planning on commuting to Guisi.

  • Ride a “Nueva Valencia” jeepney (30 to 45 minutes) – P40 per passenger
  • Tell the driver to drop you off at the intersection going to Guisi Beach. Since Brgy. Dolores is already the end of the jeepney route, the driver may negotiate to take you to Guisi for an additional P10 per passenger.
  • Ride a single motorcycle to Guisi (10 minutes)
  • Hike downhill to the beach (less than 5 minutes)

Don’t leave yet. There’s more!

Guisi is more peaceful. It’s a bit secluded in a sense.

Alubihod has more people visiting. Plenty of stores in the area and you can buy seafoods near the market or sometimes they will sell it in front of Raymen’s.

Beautiful and secluded spot. We also went to the Lopez (did I spell that correctly?) mansion. It was creepy but made taking photos of the place was fun. I think it best to hire your own transportation to explore the island. Public transportation is infrequent in some areas.

I went there with my girl. We didn’t stay long as we were sightseeing all over the island so my experience there might be limited. The beach is really nice and secluded. It’s quite clean but during our visit the waves were a bit strong and the water level somewhat steep.

It was really great though. Really peaceful and the lighthouse was eerily fascinating. There isn’t much to do except go swimming and relax but I can’t say enough about how peaceful it is.

From my experience Guisi seems more secluded and quiet, so if it’s privacy you’re after then that would be a good place. There’s not much to do there aside from the usual beach fare. Grilling, swimming, relaxing and the like.

Alubihod seems more accessible in terms of transportation and amenities. You can order/buy most of what you need from the store/canteen. Boat rides are also available for hire. The port is also quiet close, probably 25-40 minutes depending on the speed of the vehicle.

Greetings to you miss Joy, as a concerned local I am very delighted to hear you find Guisi “AWESOME”, It is to us our most precious treasure that we need to protect yet happily share to anybody which is willing to do the same. Perish the thought of (even contemplating) BILL GATES OR DONALD TRUMP buying the place. Where would all my relatives end up? How many percent of our country men would you think be able to afford the charges of such business consortium?

I would appeal to all concern to leave Guimaras unspoiled, change very little as to how nature has shaped it, enjoy every moment you spend in the area and look forward to go back (God willing) with all your love ones in the near future.

If you “love it”, look after and protect it. ‘BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD’ and make it a better place….
