Guy Sebastian is an Australian singer/songwriter originally from Adelaide who won the very first series of Australian Idol and has become one of the country's best selling artists.
Guy Theodore Sebastian is one of Australia's most successful artists who received his commercial break after being crowned the victor of the first season of Australian Idol in 2003. Following on from his talent show background he was chosen as a judge of the Australian X Factor between 2010 and 2012. His first album titled 'Just As I Am' was released shortly after his win and topped the Australian album charts upon release, it now holds a six times platinum selling certificate. The following six albums all hit the top 10 on the albums chart and hold at least a platinum selling certificiate. He has enjoyed similar success with his singles, appearing twelve times on the top ten, six of which topped the chart. To date Sebastian is the only male artist in Australian chart history to score six number one singles.
'Battle Scars' is perhaps his most successful single to date, achieving six times platinum selling certificate in Australia as well as charting on numerous international charts including New Zealand, Norway and the United States. To date Scott has accumulated 51 platinum certificates and four gold making him the most successful Australian Idol contestant of all time and one of Australia's best selling artists.
His career has also been a critical success, to date he has been nominated 24 times for ARIA Awards nominations and has won four. When Australia released their list of thehighest selling singles of the decade, Sebastian's first release 'Angels Brought Me Here' was named as the top selling song.
Live reviews
The only male artist to make Australian chart history by achieving six number one singles started his career by being the first winner of Australian Idol in 2003. After a successful career, Guy Sebastian even went on to be a judge in the 2010-2012 Australian X Factor show. There's no question that the singer has talent, he wouldn't have been able to get away with gaining his success through auto tune as he won the talent show with his gorgeous voice alone singing Stevie Wonder's 'Ribbon in the Sky'. His second album 'Beautiful Life' included songs he wrote with Robin Thicke and took a more R&B style to it than his usual music, which had a great response from his fans. He has such clear admiration and appreciation for his fans, which is evident from his performance on the Australian X Factor in 2012 as he kept thanking the public for his success. It's extremely refreshing to see someone talented, who has come so far to be down to earth and understanding of how they got there. I don’t think much of him as a performer, his acts are a bit standard and he needs lots of fire and backing dancers to make it more interesting, but there’s no questioning his singing ability which left me with goose bumps.

Back in the days when talent programmes were legitimate starting pathways to a successful career in music, the Australian version of Pop Idol discovered an impressive singer/songwriter called Guy Sebastian. Fast forward twelve years and he has made chart history in Australia selling millions of albums and charting at #1 with numerous singles. He may not be hugely known in other parts of the world but he is a mega star in his homeland and his live shows have a suitable atmosphere.
From the moment the lights dim the screams are completely deafening as Sebastian's entourage and band slowly lead onto the stage followed by the man himself. Years on in his career and Guy has established exactly the kind of artist he wants to be as he carefully toes the line between pop, dance and R & B throughout the show via 'Like It Like That' 'Like A Drum' and 'Get Along'. He still performs his debut number one single 'Angels Brought Me Here' if only to hear his deafening choir of followers join in for the chorus. It is the new track 'Battle Scars' in collaboration with Lupe Fiasco that receives the biggest cheers of the night and reassures Sebastian that his career will keep raising higher and higher.
What an absolute artist! A fantastic voice. A great band.
A tremendous venue. Just an all-round great night. Plus the new sounds and tricks- i can't wait for the album, now, and to hear the finished production on the tracks. It's gonna be sick!! Steve

Guy Sebastian talks his upcoming tour and X Factor
POP icon Guy Sebastian has just announced a tour with his brother in the opening spot. And he’s not sure if he’ll have enough time to judge X Factor.
‘Hundreds impacted’: Data leak rocks festival
‘OMG’: Spice Girls perform at star’s 50th
What controversial pop star looks like now
WHEN Guy Sebastian announced his You…Me…Us tour, the emails flooded in. With more than 30 shows on the stripped back run of regional concerts throughout Australia’s heartland, plenty of pop artists wanted to pitch for the opening spot.
Few local artist tours, and fewer international visits, offer Australian pop acts a chance to show off their talents in front of a live audience. Television talent shows and a spot on the breakfast programs are the only avenues these days for established and unknown singers to win fans with a cracking performance.
Sebastian could have had his pick of support acts from the many artists he has formed friendships with via his stints as an X Factor judge, or the newly signed crop of finalists who are now labelmates on Sony, including his impressive contestants Matt and Jess.
Instead, Sebastian has played the family card. His brother Chris, who has been pursuing his career independently, before and after trying his luck on The Voice’s inaugural season in 2012, will be opening the shows.
The Sebastian brothers, including Ollie and Jeremy are close mates, with the whole clan reuniting in Adelaide over Christmas at a big farmhouse.
Like any talented sibling who has a hugely successful and famous pop star brother, it has been tough for Chris to get noticed for his own music. There will always be comparisons made. It’s just what happens.
The Battle Scars singer has devoted considerable energy and time helping other pop aspirants get a foot in the door as an X Factor judge, in the recording studio and tapping them to join tours as an opening act or backing vocalist.
He felt it was time to give Chris some of that music loving, and has also helped out on his brother’s album The Good Old Days , which is released on January 14 as the pair kick off the tour in Shoalhaven on the NSW south coast.
“Right now I am in a creative world with my little brother. I am taking him on tour. There were so many people who wanted to get on that tour, I had so many requests for support acts, it’s almost 40 shows and covers the whole country so it’s a big deal for somebody starting out. I said no because I want to look after my bro. It’s been years since we’ve sung together,” he says.
Sebastian has a thick skin. He faced the momentous challenge of translating his phenomenal success as Australian Idol’s first winner into a sustained career. He won credibility with his performances and recordings. He’s a beloved Australian pop star who finds himself in his fair share of foot-in-mouth moments. He’s good at shaking them off. He recognises Chris has faced his own challenges.
“It’s very hard for siblings in general. How does he do what he wants to do when he’s my brother?” he says.
“He is a freaky singer. He can sing! He writes, he produces everything himself, engineers it, yet he has all the same insecurities every artist has but it’s even harder because he’s Guy Sebastian’s
brother. So for the tour, I wanted him to have his album done. I want people to see he is great.
“We’ve done a song called Juliet. It’s such a beautiful song.”
Sebastian enjoyed another watershed year in 2015. He kicked it off with the ambitious Madness
arena tour and was announced as Australia’s first representative at the European Song Contest. He finished a very decent fifth with Tonight Again , a song he wrote in just a couple of days before the contest deadline.
His world class talent and showbiz smarts won him a fanbase in Europe where Tonight Again landed on the charts in several countries, leading to a release deal in Germany. Sebastian toured Europe in August and September.
And he was back on Australian television, returning to the X Factor judging panel after a two-year absence.
Whether he is back in the chair for 2016 is up in the air.
“When I think about my resolution for 2016, I want to free up my year after the tour. The only thing that would stop me doing X Factor is time,” he says.
“I need to free up time to create. I have millions of bits of songs and ideas and I need to nerd out with my new synths and instruments. I’m halfway through writing the album.
“I get bad anxiety if I feel trapped creatively, that nothing is flowing for me, I have that constant
artist fear that is the beginning of the end, that I’m done, I’m out of ideas. I’ve been there before
and it’s not a good place. It only ever happens as a result of me being too busy and not prioritising.”
The first soundpost of Sebastian’s next musical move was the single Black & Blue , released in
November and becoming his 20th top 20 hit.
His detour from soul and r&b pop into electronica hints at his sonic vision for his ninth record in 12 years. He credits a newfound obsession with streaming music for expanding his production ideas and finding people to work with including American singer and songwriter Jaymes Young, who helped produce Black & Blue .
“I stream my arse off, I have never listened to more music in my life.” he said.
“As a producer, it has changed the game for me big time. It’s expanded so many of my ideas about production and forced me to listen to things I would never have found, like Jaymes.”
The record won’t be his only big project for 2016. Sebastian and his wife Jules are building a new home for their family, including adorable sons Hudson and Archer.
Sebastian may be into house design and building as much as he is music, having renovated the
family’s holiday house on the NSW south coast with help from his brothers and mates including
Johnny Ruffo.
“I love it, the creative side of it. I taught myself to do floors and all the other internal work with
YouTube videos. But I’m not going to do this house from scratch, I got the experts in,” he says.

On Tour With Guy Sebastian
We catch guy’s conscious tour in newcastle to see how bose and sennheiser help him go from soulful to super subby in an instant..
By Preshan John
10 September 2018
“Coconut Love!” It was what the people wanted, but Guy Sebastian had other things in mind. He was in Newcastle’s gorgeous Civic theatre on the second stop of his Conscious album tour, and focused on debuting his new material, not extending a Hamish & Andy joke segment.
Regardless, the crowd ate up the former idol’s combination of vintage soul and modern R&B. The 1500 pax theatre, dripping with heritage figuring, was full of fans from every era; man, woman and child.
AT went along to catch the show, which was exceedingly well-executed. Guy’s got some serious pipes, and throughout the whole show it’s hard to catch him let out a single bung note. He’s a showman, and as well as the vocal gymnastics also plays piano, electric guitar, and a Roland sample pad at various points during the set. He’s not out there alone, with a talented four-piece backing band (keys, electric guitar, drums, bass) and his two backup vocalists/dancers, the dynamic set delivered everything from soulful downtempo moments to pumping, low frequency-laced R&B numbers.
SHOWMATCH SHOWCASE
Making its Australian debut on the Conscious Tour was Bose’s new ShowMatch DeltaQ line array system. The Civic Theatre is split into two levels, so the PA was ground stacked to give best coverage to the entire audience. FOH engineer Anatole Day has worked with Guy for over 10 years now and as well as knowing the intricacies of Guy’s oeuvre, he’s also rolled into regional hubs like the Civic Theatre many times. He’s tried every kind of flown and groundstacked configuration here and finds this the best for coverage as well as reducing slap at the back of the venue.
Day went with two sides of six Bose SM20 elements stacked on four Bose SMS118 18-inch subs. The top two 20-degree vertical dispersion array elements curved up to send audio into the balcony.
“I’m trying to recreate what Guy is trying to express and the ShowMatch can handle all of it,” said Anatole. “The electronic material can go from super high to super low sub bass. You need to be able to translate that across the board, along with the quieter, more acoustic moments. The ShowMatch can definitely cover everything we’re throwing at it.”
While ShowMatch borrows much of its inspiration from Bose’s popular RoomMatch installation-focused line array, the ShowMatch is targeted to the rental and touring markets. Everything from bump in to rigging reflects this.
“The rigging couldn’t get much more basic to operate,” Anatole observes. “One guy can move and position a box easily. Two guys could get a hang of 12 up in under 20 minutes.”
GUY GOES WITH SENNHEISER
It’s been a couple of big switches for the Sebastian production crew. As well as going out with Showmatch, the Conscious Tour saw the crew switch RF audio duties over to Sennheiser’s Digital 6000 system. Reproducing Guy’s elaborate vocal chops was the D6000 handheld transmitter with a Neumann KK 205 supercardioid capsule. A SK6000 digital wireless transmitter was used for his Telecaster while he and the whole band were on Sennheiser 2000 Series IEMs.
There was lots of wired Sennheiser gear on stage too. The drums set-up included an e901 and e602 for the kick drum, e904s were used for the snare top, snare bottom and floor toms and MKH 8050s for the hi-hats. All the guitars were miked up with a combination of e903 and e906, while backing vocals were through a combination of D6000 handheld wireless mics with MD 9235 capsules and e945 wired mics. The MK4 and e914 provided live ambience to the monitor mix.
“Guy loves the clean, crisp audio quality in his IEMs,” said Anatole. “I love the Sennheiser range of products because they sound great and are extremely reliable.”
