Our Curricular Approach

Want deep conversations, not lecture halls?

The old saying “seeing is believing” becomes “doing is believing” here.

We challenge students to question their assumptions, starting with their very first class.

Here, any one or combination of 60+ areas of study develop the intellect and character needed for a rapidly changing world.

With research opportunities from Day 1 and real world experience built into our curriculum, you'll get plenty of hands-on experience, too!

Ursinus's Quest curriculum is an inquiry-based curriculum. So we are asking students to ask questions. We want them to think about their process through their education. So by asking questions, they are engaging in everything they are putting themselves as part of the process. They are thinking about their own path. They are engaged fully as individuals with their own education. The Quest curriculum at Ursinus shapes the students' whole experience here. It acquaints students with a variety of tools that anybody in a 21st-century life needs to have. The Quest curriculum is shaped around four questions. That set of four questions shapes the whole time the student is here. We start with those questions in a first-year class, and we bring them up and give the student the chance to think more deeply and richly about them over the full four years. The key thing with all kinds of Ursinus classes is that the questions guide them through a Socratic discussion and they really encourage and challenge us to not only think about the answers that we're raising but really in a modern lens of placing the answers and how we're going to then use them. It really just kind of allows us to broaden not only our perspective on a certain field but our ability to critically think about a certain situation with all these different factors in play.

Game Recap: Baseball | 4/22/2024 8:59:00 PM

Baseball Notches 7-3 Victory Over Ursinus

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team (22-8) got four scoreless innings from the bullpen and notched a 7-3 victory over the Ursinus Bears (12-22) in non-conference action on Monday at Volpe Field in Scranton.

This marked the first meeting between the two programs since 1975.

Ursinus got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Royals tied the game at two apiece in the home half of the second as a pair of two-out walks set the stage for junior TJ Pleban's  (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) two-out, two-run double.

Scranton took the lead for good with a three-run third as sophomore Conor Campbell (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum)  came through with an RBI single and later scored the go-ahead run when he stole home as part of a double steal with senior Jack Heineman (Abington, Pa./LaSalle College) . Following the swipe, senior Matthew Querey (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) plated Heineman with an RBI single that extended the lead to 5-3.

Ryan Barrow was dealt the loss for the Bears after allowing three runs on three hits while walking one in an inning of work.

Senior lefty Matthew Moreira (Union, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep)   recorded the win for the Royals as he gave up three runs on three hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in five innings of work.

In relief of Moreira, sophomore righty Aidan Rumain (Martinsville, N.J./Immaculata) and senior righties Ryan Walsh (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) , George Sengos  (Washington Twp., N.J./Westwood Regional)  and Johnny Flannigan (Huntington, N.Y./St. Dominic)  combined to toss four scoreless frames and struck out five.

A balk brought home a run in the fourth inning and Campbell delivered an RBI double which opened a 7-3 advantage.

Holding a 7-3 lead, Walsh entered the game with Ursinus runners at the corners with two away in the sixth, but he sent Jordan Williams down on strikes to end the threat.

Sengos struck out the side in a perfect eighth inning for the Royals.

Campbell (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 SB, R) and Querey (3-3, RBI, 4 SB, R) both recorded multi-hit games for head coach Mike Bartoletti 's team.

Scranton stole 10 bases in the game including four from Querey, two from Campbell and two from freshman James Nitti (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) .

The Royals will host William Paterson tomorrow afternoon at Volpe Field with first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m.
