Updated January 2023 – Are you a tour operator trying to find which option is best for you? Or alternatively, are you a tourism professional trying to set up your distribution system? Trying to make your mark and stand out in a highly competitive industry? Let’s start at the beginning to help you understand the types of travel agents available to partner with.
The role of a tour operator is to brainstorm ideas and conduct research to design holiday packages for travelers. In essence, they curate and compile various travel elements into a package that people will find appealing — creating a tailored and individual experience based on the interests and needs of various travelers. Holiday packages usually combine accommodation, cuisine, sightseeing, and transport.
Inbound vs. outbound travel
An inbound tourist is someone who visits a country but is not a resident of it. In outbound tourism, residents of a country visit another country. Does this sound like two sides of the same coin? That’s because it is.
Let’s look at an example:
Kevin, an Australian citizen, is traveling to Argentina for a holiday.
Kevin is an inbound tourist to Argentina. In contrast, Kevin is an outbound tourist from Australia.
Depending on where Kevin chooses to organize his holiday packages will depend on if he makes use of inbound tourism or outbound tourism.
An inbound tour operator will sell to people soon to be arriving in their countries, whereas an outbound tour operator will sell to people before they arrive at their destination.
Inbound tour operator agents
An inbound tour operator, also known as a destination management company, is a locally-based business or individual that provides holiday planning. This includes itinerary planning and arrangement of payment for their overseas clients.
Inbound tour operators deal with both individuals and groups of international travelers. They make arrangements that are specifically catered to international guests, ensuring their clients have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
An inbound operator can work with the convenience of being able to operate at the same location in which they are organizing the holiday packages. Compared to outbound tour operators, an inbound operator would better understand the local area and its culture. This is especially true when receiving any inquiries or questions about tour information from a potential client. Additionally, an inbound tour operator is usually encouraged to develop strategic partnerships with other local companies and tour and activity operators . Building these relationships is a lot easier due to geographical location.
Inbound tour operators are locally based
The purpose of inbound tour operators is to promote the entire destination to potential visitors from their local viewpoint. The operational advantage of being locally based is having easy access to work with other companies to promote the location as a whole to interested overseas travelers. Additionally, inbound tour operators can offer a more personalized service to their customers by having direct contact with them in their chosen destinations.
Inbound tour operators often work with other travel agents and distribution partners
Tour packages are often created and promoted by inbound tour operators in partnership with other travel agent s and travel distribution channels . Inbound tour operators work under the assumption that travelers are often motivated by package deals and promotions, and take advantage of this when marketing their destination. This means it’s beneficial for inbound tour operators to create packages that include local tourism businesses such as hotels, transportation, and tours and activities. Following that, these same packages are promoted to segments of the target market that are most likely to visit the region in the near future.
Choose an inbound tour operator if:
Working with an inbound tour operator is a good idea if you want to increase your visibility in a chosen destination. This will be increasingly beneficial if your target market shows interest in package deals.
Outbound tour operator agents
A typical outbound tour operator works with international tourists. In contrast to inbound tour operators, outbound tour operators take travelers overseas from their home country. They offer a variety of tour packages that enable tourists across borders to travel abroad easily.
Outbound tour operators contribute significantly to the destination country’s economic growth. The majority of outbound tour operators choose to focus on a specific destination. This may be a destination that is currently popular or a destination in which they have special expertise and distribution partners.
Most outbound tour operators cater to international travelers.
Outbound tour operators offer travelers the convenience of visiting another country of their choice through tour packages. When travelers book a tour with an outbound tour operator, they can get everything they need under one roof — simplifying the travel experience.
A particular region of the world is often their specialty
Outbound tour operators have the benefit of being experts in the destinations they serve. European destinations are a very popular choice with outbound tour operators; however other destinations, such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East, are growing in popularity. A successful outbound tour operator will often be very tuned-in to trends, one step ahead of the crowds, so they know which destinations to specialize in next.
Choose an outbound tour operator if:
If your business strategy includes targeting international travelers, partnering with an outbound tour operator is likely to be a good fit. Additionally, an outbound tour operator will be a good fit if you understand overseas offerings and have the ability to promote them to domestic customers.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Just like running any form of travel company, there will always be some advantages and disadvantages. before working with either an inbound or outbound tour operator, here are a few pros and cons you should consider.
Inbound tour operators
As an inbound tour operator, you’ll have the advantage of convenience. This is due to being able to operate in the same location or home country as the tours you offer. This is extremely beneficial when receiving any inquiries or questions about the tours as you’d have a greater understanding of the local area and its culture compared to outbound tour operators. Furthermore, as an inbound tour operator, developing strategic partnerships and forming great relationships with other local companies and tour and activity operators will be a lot easier and is usually encouraged.
Another major advantage an inbound tour operator has is that most of the interactions with their customers will be direct. Meaning, it will allow them to offer a more personalized experience based on their customer’s needs.
Outbound tour operators
Just like the inbound operators, outbound tour operators deal with customers from their own countries. This makes designing and creating tour packages a whole lot simpler as they can customize the tours based on the customer’s interests. However, a disadvantage outbound tour operators have is not being based on the travel destination itself. This could create problems and can be more difficult to resolve any issues that may arise.
Fortunately, outbound tour operators have the flexibility to update their products and packages based on the latest travel trends and demands. As we all know, the travel industry is highly competitive and constantly evolving. Offering outbound tours gives you the freedom to adapt to changes in the travel and tourism market swiftly.
Which one should you choose?
The key difference between inbound and outbound tour operators comes down to whether they provide tours in their home country or abroad. You should consider both types of tour operator agents when developing your distribution strategy. Partnering with these two agents will maximize your reach to both international and domestic travelers.
Now, it’s time to think about ways to make your distribution and marketing channels more effective. You can identify your key partners via your research or by connecting with a tour wholesaler . By establishing partnerships with a large tour operator network , you can advance your business — both inbound and outbound. Read our previous blog if you are looking for tips and tricks for partnering with travel agencies or download our online distribution ebook today.
In general, both types of tour operator agents play an important role in the overall success of your distribution strategy. By partnering with both of these agents, you’ll be able to maximize your reach to both international and domestic travelers.
When bookings start to come through, you’d want to ensure that you’re providing your customers with a simple booking journey. By utilizing an online booking software , you’re not only simplifying the customer’s booking journey, you’re streamlining your processes as well. This is due to advanced features that automate your processes that allow your customers to make a booking on the spot. Tips for Choosing the Right Inbound Travel Agency
Choosing the right inbound travel agency is crucial to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience. With so many options available, it’s important to consider certain factors before making a decision. Here are some tips to help you choose the right inbound travel agency for your needs:
- Research and Read Reviews: Start by conducting thorough research on different inbound travel agencies. Look for reviews and testimonials from previous clients to get an idea of their reputation and the quality of their services. Review platforms, travel forums, and social media can be great sources of unbiased feedback and recommendations.
- Check Credentials and Certifications: Ensure that the inbound travel agency you choose is licensed and accredited. Look for certifications such as affiliations with tourism boards and industry associations. These credentials signify that the agency meets certain standards and adheres to ethical and professional business practices.
- Assess Destination Knowledge: Evaluate the agency’s expertise and knowledge about your desired destination. Do they have a deep understanding of the local culture, attractions, and logistics? Do they have firsthand experience in organizing trips to that specific location? Having an agency with in-depth destination knowledge is vital for crafting a well-planned and immersive travel experience.
- Consider Customization Options: Determine if the agency offers customized itineraries based on your preferences. A reputable inbound travel agency will take the time to understand your interests, budget, and travel goals to create a tailored itinerary that suits your needs. They should be willing to listen to your input and make adjustments to the itinerary if necessary.
- Communication and Responsiveness: Pay attention to the agency’s communication style and responsiveness. Are they prompt in responding to your inquiries and addressing your concerns? Do they provide clear and detailed information about their services? Effective and timely communication is essential for a smooth planning process and a successful trip.
- Consider Price and Value: While cost is an important factor to consider, it should not be the sole basis for choosing an inbound travel agency. Evaluate the value they provide for the price quoted. Compare the inclusions, quality of accommodations, transportation options, and additional services offered. It’s important to strike a balance between cost-effectiveness and the quality of the experience.
- Ask for References: Request references from the inbound travel agency to speak directly with previous clients. This will give you an opportunity to hear about their firsthand experiences and gauge their level of satisfaction. If the agency is hesitant to provide references, it could be a red flag.
By considering these tips, you can make an informed decision when choosing the right inbound travel agency for your trip. Remember, selecting the right agency can greatly enhance your travel experience, providing you with memorable moments and seamless logistics throughout your journey.

Inbound Tour Operator
What is an inbound tour operator .
An inbound tour operator (ITO) is a specialized travel company or agency that focuses on organizing and managing travel arrangements for visitors coming into a specific destination. In simpler terms, it is a company that assists and caters to tourists and travelers from other countries or regions who are visiting a particular location.
The primary role of an inbound tour operator is to design and execute comprehensive travel packages for foreign tourists. These packages typically include accommodation, transportation, sightseeing tours, activities, and other services required for a seamless travel experience. Inbound tour operators collaborate closely with local service providers, such as hotels, transportation companies, guides, and attractions, to create well-rounded itineraries that showcase the best of the destination.
ITOs possess extensive knowledge about the destination they operate in, including its culture, attractions, history, local customs, and regulations. They utilize this expertise to curate unique travel experiences and ensure that visitors have a memorable and enjoyable stay.
Inbound Tour Operator Benefits
Engaging the services of an inbound tour operator offers several benefits to both travelers and the destination they are visiting:
Local Expertise
Inbound tour operators have in-depth knowledge of the destination, including its hidden gems, lesser-known attractions, and local customs. They provide invaluable insights that enhance the travel experience and help visitors discover the authentic essence of the place.
Tailor-Made Itineraries
These operators specialize in creating personalized travel itineraries based on individual preferences, ensuring that every traveler’s needs and interests are met. They take into account factors such as budget, duration of stay, specific interests, and group size to craft unique travel packages.
Efficient Planning and Logistics
ITO’s streamline the travel planning process by taking care of all logistical aspects. From booking accommodations and arranging transportation to coordinating sightseeing tours and activities, they handle the necessary arrangements, saving travelers time and effort.
Local Support and Assistance
Inbound tour operators provide on-ground support to travelers during their visit. They offer 24/7 assistance, ensuring that any issues or concerns are promptly addressed. This local support network provides peace of mind to visitors and adds an extra layer of security.
Access to Exclusive Deals
Due to their strong relationships with local service providers, an inbound travel agency often has access to exclusive deals and discounts. Travelers can benefit from cost savings on accommodations, transportation, and activities that are not readily available to individual tourists.
Inbound vs. Outbound Tour Operator
While inbound tour operators use inbound tour operator software to focus on receiving and assisting foreign travelers in a particular destination, outbound tour operators (OTOs) have a different orientation.
Outbound tour operators are types of travel agency that specialize in organizing and managing travel arrangements for individuals or groups interested in exploring international destinations. They cater to local residents seeking to travel abroad. These operators possess extensive knowledge about various international destinations, including attractions, cultural nuances, and logistics.
They work closely with international service providers to create tailored travel packages that meet the preferences and requirements of their clients. Outbound tour operators streamline the process of planning, booking, and coordinating international travel, offering local residents access to exciting and enriching experiences worldwide.
Here are some key differences between ITOs and OTOs:
- Tour operators for inbound travel primarily cater to foreign tourists who are visiting a specific destination. Their target audience consists of travelers from other countries or regions. On the other hand, outbound tour operators primarily serve local residents who are interested in traveling abroad. They arrange travel packages for individuals or groups looking to explore international destinations.
- ITOs possess extensive knowledge about the specific destination they operate in. They are familiar with local attractions, cultural nuances, and logistics. Tour operators for outbound, on the other hand, have expertise in various international destinations and are well-versed in the specific requirements and regulations of different countries.
- ITOs forge partnerships with local service providers within their destination. They establish collaborations with hotels, transportation companies, guides, and attractions to offer a comprehensive range of services. Outbound tour operators, on the other hand, establish relationships with international service providers to ensure a smooth travel experience for their clients in foreign destinations.
- Inbound tour operators focus on receiving visitors, while outbound tour operators focus on sending visitors.
In conclusion, inbound tour operators play a vital role in the travel industry by serving as the bridge between foreign travelers and their chosen destinations.
With their profound knowledge, local expertise, and meticulous planning, these operators ensure that visitors have an immersive and seamless experience during their stay. By collaborating with local service providers, they curate tailor-made itineraries that showcase the best of the destination’s cultural heritage, attractions, and unique experiences.
The benefits of engaging an inbound tour operator are manifold, ranging from personalized itineraries and efficient logistics to on-ground support and access to exclusive deals.
Whether it’s navigating unfamiliar terrain, discovering hidden gems, or immersing in local customs, inbound tour operators enhance the travel experience and contribute to the overall satisfaction of visitors, making them an indispensable part of the tourism ecosystem.

G Adventures
- Excellent - 19,079 reviews for USA tours
the tour itself was amazing. The national parks do not disappoint. The travel accomodations were very cramped and uncomfortable. I am only 5 foot tall and I was cramped in this 14 passenger van. Food opportunities were limited.
Fantastic experience - efficient use of time, great itinerary. Well-informed and interesting guide who is also just a great person.
Bindlestiff Tours
- Excellent - 1,456 reviews for USA tours
Yosemite was a dream! Yosemite was amazing! 3rd tour with Bindlestiff. Haley was a fun guide and got us from place to place safely. The campgrounds were great and close to the parks. Having a tour guide makes traveling so much more relaxing. You don't have to stress about planning anything or do the driving. Definitely recommend these tours.
Contrast to its name, Death Valley is a beautiful place for a road trip. I had taken this one day tour for Death valley National park. It was a beautiful tour. It pretty much covered most of the main places of this national park. Our tour guide, Hogan, was such an amazing , knowledgeable and friendly guide. As it was small group, it was well organized , on-time...perfect
Intrepid Travel
- Excellent - 11,693 reviews for USA tours
We were fortunate to have Claire Kredens as our driver guide. She is a gifted leader and could cope with ant situation. Such a tour is useful to learn which cities you might like to re-visit because our time in each is very short. Four and five hour drives every other day is exhausting and maybe the number of places visited could be edited downward. On the whole, I enjoyed the trip altho the age range 15-99 is unwise. 15-80 would be much more realistic.
My son and I had a great hiking adventure on the Sedona tour! The scenery was stunning, the hikes were fun! Tolman was an excellent guide, who was very knowledgeable about the area, he had great hiking tips, and he picked some enjoyable challenging hikes for us! He was also an excellent cook! He prepared us some great meals! His positive outlook on everything helped the group of strangers on the trek quickly bond which led us all to have a great hiking experience!

Great tour, good group size too
Great experience!
Southwest Adventure Tours
- Excellent - 95 reviews for USA tours
Just couldn’t have been better. Extremely professional guides Robin and Sarah were highly knowledgable, friendly and organised. Accomodation was excellent in every location (most hotels even had hot tubs and pools!) and the food options were always good. Lovely comfortable Mercedes minibus. Highly recommended to everyone - would do another tour with South West Adventure Tours in a heartbeat.
Guide was knowledgeable and helpful. It was a good group
- Excellent - 1,887 reviews for USA tours
Excellent. Great guide, driver, weather, hotels, food. Great itenirary. Love love this trip.
Optional excursions were reasonably priced. Suggest you put together other places in each city as a walking guide or short taxi or uber ride. Example access to close by museums open late and could walk to from hotel. Free time activities and what they are and where located is helpful.tour guide can offer to accompany a group interested to explore more during free leisure tome.Provide more detail info about the logistics of site visits. Niagara falls..suggest more water proof gear clothing and shoe types etc. Terrain to expect when visiting certain sites and possible alternatives.climbing and how difficult-easy or more strenuous or advanced climbing activity. Overall, small groups so much better than filling up bus. Thank you for giving single travelers their own bus space. Would love to watch more travel videos on longer driving distances.
BrushBuck Wildlife Tours
- Excellent - 23 reviews for USA tours
Although the tour was very expensive- over $2000 for 3 days is over the top- it wss a great experience, saw lots of wildlife and the guide was outstanding
What an amazing experience this was; from the greeting and pick up by our guide/driver, to the phenomenal sights and the historical references that accompanied them! I am so pleased. This was an exceptionally planned tour that successfully met all of my needs. I would not change a thing and look forward to future adventures with them.
National Geographic Journey…
- Excellent - 257 reviews for USA tours
Good time with lots of riding in the van going to interesting places
We had a wonderful time. The tour was well planned and well managed. The CEO was excellent ..good driver, good communicator, had good knowledge of the local attractions and made great recommendations for restaurants. The group we were with was also a very pleasant group which made the experience that much more enjoyable. That said, would have loved to see the accommodations updated.. most except the Denali cabins were old and "weathered".
- Excellent - 74,884 reviews for USA tours
This was our second trip on Globus and both experiences were fantastic.
I was skeptical of a group tour, particularly by coach. The experienced guide, Jason, along with driver Shauna, changed my view completely.
Infinite Adventures
- Excellent - 118 reviews for USA tours
It was my first group trip and also my first camping trip. I have to say it was one of the best trips I've been on. It was an adventure! We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights at Remote Camp. Tory and Dave took care of everything and made sure everyone had a great time. No matter what problem you had, they always helped each other! Dave cooked delicious food, we had marshmallows by the fire in the evening and it felt like family. It's a great tour and I can only recommend it to anyone! It certainly wasn't my last tour with Infinite Adventure! Many thanks to Tory, Dave and Natalie (who you could ask any question you wanted to know beforehand) for this unforgettable time! :)
Jump on the bus with Infinite Adventures for a magnificent Alaskan expedition! Dave and Tory are excellent guides and will keep you informed about the areas you visit and give expert advice. I found this to be a truly joyful experience!
Insight Vacations
- Excellent - 626 reviews for USA tours
My first experience with an organized tour like this. Expense alone will limit future trips. Much more walking than my wife was prepared for. This alone reduced her enjoyment. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough with his planning and execution. Andrew has a fun personality and very personable. One item that disappointed me was the shuttle from airport to resort at both ends of the
Insights Tours are always amazing and this one was no exception. Nice balance of free time to relax and experience Hawaii on your own with visits to places on the islands to experience the culture. Learned a lot of Hawaii’s history throughout our visit. Overall a lovely experience and would highly recommend if you want to visit Hawaii and learn more about the islands.

Had a wonderful time - a lot of hiking, seeing the sites in Alaska and viewing the Northern Lights.
The tour was amazing, great and tour guides:).
- Excellent - 19,642 reviews for USA tours
Could have had more included activities
The tour had a few bumps. It would have been better if there were some included meals. There was no information about some of the excursions such as where the island tour stopped.
Bamba Travel
- Good - 1,689 reviews for USA tours
The itinerary provided by tour radar was not exactly how the tour was set up. One of our stops said we would be doing a cruise on lake Powell. That was not provided with the tour. Also the hotels that they said we would be staying at did not line up.
Overall, the tour was very fun and we'll put together. The tour guides were all friendly, and seemed to work well as a team. Accomodations were not bad, but there were better options directly adjacent. Food options were pretty much all fast food, which makes sense for the tour concept. However, dinner options could have been a bit better. We really would have appreciated a little more hiking and exploring time, and a couple of the guides did the best to accommodate that. However, 20 minute stops are just not enough time to get "out and experience" the areas.
The Coyote Trip
- Good - 11 reviews for USA tours
This trip was run like a school trip, we were told that we had to stick to the schedule rigidly even though I asked several times to visit a different museum/shop. Free time was limited and it seemed like the guide had specific ideas of what he wanted to do and see. Our guide also left us on a subway in New York to get home close to midnight and then we had issues getting checked into the hostel. FYI most tour guides make sure their group gets to the hotel safely and without hassle. Waste of time and money.
From a speedboat to the Statue of Liberty to fireworks on 4th July in Washington to hiking to Yosemite Falls, this trip showcased the very best the USA has to offer. I went on the 21 day Full Cyote trip from New York to San Francisco with my brother. With such a packed itinerary of included activities, it offered great value for money. The guides in every region we visited were excellent. A particular shout out to Ryan, who added in extra stops and experiences based on the group's interests. Other highlights included the Grand Canyon, Washington's museums, whale watching in Boston, cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge and sunset in Griffeths Park. I met a great group of people on the trip, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with the Cyote Trip again.

Testimonials.
Parvez Khan of Indian Journey is a talented tour organizer and thoughtful human being. Parvez arranged a five-person, 24-day trip that included Delhi, Rajasthan, Agra, Varanasi, and Kerala that was utterly delightful and seamless. Despite his smiling presence and calm demeanor, I knew he worked hard behind the scenes to handle every detail to make sure everything went smoothly.
Two couples and long time friends booked a trip starting in Goa, driving to Hampi, then flying to Madurai. We again had a driver and explored world heritage sites from Kancheepuram to the backwaters of Kerala. Hotels were excellent and importantly so were our driver who were experienced and spoke good English. Our agent was always available by phone and always helpful the few times needed. Trip could not have been better. Recommend without reservation.
From 2014 to 2018 I’ve done 3 tour in India Rajasthan, South India, Varanasi, Amritsar, and I’m going to have the fourth. I like India and I’m strictly joint with this country. I went in contact with Parvez and Indian Journey in a wonderful period I was in India to adopt my daughter and since then Parvez-Bahi was for me not only the best travel agent ever known but over all he was a brother an angel who protected me and my family and friends, in India.
We used Indian Journey this month for a Golden Triangle itinerary. Without a doubt, every driver, guide, and representative were top notch and immediately available via text, phone, or Whataspp (preferred).
Not once did we feel out of touch nor left questioning our itinerary. The guides were able to be a bit flexible with personal goals and priorities.
Excellent staff, prompt communication, flexibility, and guides. Just beware of the hard sell at the Cottage Industries mandatory handicraft/carpet shops.
Our third trip with Indian Journey was as memorable as ever. We have previously used Parvez (INDIAN JOURNEY) for touring Rajasthan and then a year later Amritsar, Shimla & Manali. All hotel bookings were good , Pawan our Driver was superb (we had him for 15 days in this last road trip). I have yet to come across a more decent and polite travel organisation in India, where the emphasis is on service and well being of the customer with very good prices.
This trip we did this time was Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and finally Udaipur. We stayed 2 nights at each location.
I would have no hesitation to recommend (and I have already sent a number of my friends in the UK Parvez’s details) INDIAN JOURNEY for organizing your next holiday.
If you want home away from home than you should get in touch with Indian Journey Mr Parvez Khan. I have used other service providers in India on my previous visits but no one came close to Indian Journey when it comes to your comfort and service. You will be treated as a family member of Indian Journey.
I have visited lots of places and the best thing is that as soon as you reach your Hotel to check in you will receive a call from Indian Journey to ask if the Hotel is to your liking and if not they arrange to transfer you to another Hotel with fulfills your needs and wants. I have visited India more than five times with young family and solo. There is no comparison in service and comfort with Indian Journey. Don’t just take my word for it, try it and you will not be disappointed.
Thank you Indian Journey (Mr Parvez Khan) for taking care of me with just one phone call. Hope to see you again on my next visit.

he trip was very organised and there were guides, taxi drivers ready to go at each point inc our journeys on trains and trips to and from the airport. The Shimla trip was lovely and certainly orthwhile. The trip notes are very good and useful once home and looking back over the photos. The guides we had were very experienced and gave us some history and background information.
They were so amazed by witnessing the enchanting beauty of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Delhi and Agra. They explored the Taj Mahal during the wee hours and was happy to glare at the mesmerizing beauty of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. They enjoyed the quality time at the hill station of Mussoorie. They were satisfied with our assistance.
There was always someone to meet us at the Ravi was knowledgable and cared about our wellbeing. We had a great group and we all got on well. This was the first time I had visited India and it has left me with the most wonderful memories I just want to go back. We also did a tour the week before and again the tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. They also asked us what we wanted to do and never rushed us.”

Eid Al Fitr boosts international, domestic tourism in Jordan
A MMAN — Eid Al Fitr has significantly improved the inbound tours in various tourist and archaeological areas across the country, according to stakeholders.
Speaking with The Jordan Times on Wednesday, Mahmoud Waleed, a tourism operator and owner of a travel and tourism agency, said that “the majority of tourists went to Aqaba duringthis Eid … while much smaller numbers of visitors went to Petra and Wadi Rum”.
Furthermore, Waleed said that the four-day Eid period witnessed a sharp rise in staycation reservations. Noting that “Almost all stakeholders observed heightened activity, especially in the regions of Ajloun, Jerash and Irbid”.
He said that “traditionally, Eid public holidays are a very busy period, however, when compared with previous years, we can see that the demand was a bit higher this year”.
Deputy President of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and Tourism and Economy Commissioner Hamzah Hajj-Hassan on Saturday said that some 110,000 tourists visited Aqaba during Eid Al Fitr holiday until Friday, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Hajj-Hassan said that some 95,000 of the total tourists entered the coastal city through Wadi Al Yutom and Wadi Araba crossings, and 15,000 visitors entered Aqaba through international land ports, seaports and the airport.
According to Salama Khattar, a representative of the Jordan Society of Tourism and Travel Agents, the “Urdun Jannah” programme, which encourages domestic tourism, has played a key role in stimulating inbound tourism during Eid.
He pointed out that the programme has helped bring a diverse range of hospitality experiences to people.
In this regard, Batoul Huthaifa, 24 years old, told The Jordan Times over the phone that “most of the families I know went on a trip or rented a villa near the Dead Sea or Jerash on Thursday or Friday…” adding that she went to Irbid with her family and the favourable weather was helpful.
Meanwhile, Osama Saif Eddin, an employee at a hotel in the Dead Sea, said that occupancy rates have risen by no less than 50 per cent, peaking on Friday and Thursday.
