Hailing from Harlem, New York, US, Azealia Banks (born May 31st, 1991) has found acclaim with her unique rapping style and vocal abilities, becoming a breakout sensation after the release of her hit single, "212."
From a young age, Azealia Banks displayed a desire to perform. From the age of 10, she appeared in off-Broadway productions and became heavily involved with the Tadal Youth Thearer, gaining several leading roles. Studying at Manhattan's (US) prestigious Florello H. LaGuardia High School of Music allowed Banks to develop her musical talents and sense of theatrics, moving away from acting as her focus and instead pursuing her music.
In 2008, Banks' first single release, "Seventeen," caught the attention of XL Records, with the self-produced track also impressing Diplo, before then signing a development deal with XL. After appearing on Major Lazer's single, "Can't Stop Now," her involvement with XL Records came to an end, due to creative differences. Banks persevered, moving to Montreal to record the tracks, "L8R" and the Interpol cover, "Slow Hands." Whilst these made little impact, Banks was soon to find a career-defining single in "212," becoming an international hit in 2011. The bass-heavy track broke Banks to the pop world, receiving widespread critical acclaim for the youngster's powerful track and breaking into the Top 20 in several European countries.
In 2012, she released her first EP, which featured "212" alongside three more tracks the had a distinct house influence. Following the EP, Banks began work on her debut full-length, working with British producer Paul Epworth. Banks also began work on a mixtape, eventually titled Fantasea, a release that was greeted with mixed reviews in 2012. Whilst fans continued to wait for her debut, Banks caused controversy due to ill-advised comments on social media websites, as well as upsetting fellow musicians, resulting in a number of failed collaborations.
Her debut album, "Broke with Expensive Taste," was released in July 2014 unexpectedly, failing to ignite the same praise and success as "212" had brought the artist. After difficulties with record labels, the album was distributed by Banks herself, via Caroline Records. The album displayed an eclectic mix of influences, from electronica to punk. Despite not matching the furor surrounding her earlier singles, the album still charted well in the US, peaking at number 30 on the US Billboard album charts and did receive praise from several media outlets.
Live reviews
Azealia Banks, one of hip hops most outspoken artists has been making waves since her beginnings in 2011 with the breakthrough single '212'. Achieving early critical acclaim, Banks soon became more even wider known through her negative personality on social media.
Despite this, the rapper had a great reputation on the live circuit so many revellers flocked to her tent during Reading Festival. Proving she is more than just a controversial star, the bass rings out and Azaelia appears in an incredible outfit and rips into 'Yung Rapunxel '.
The crowd cheers wildly as Banks tears around the stage with purpose as she demonstrates why she is a driving force in female rap. '1991' evokes huge cheers and rap-along, other early material such as 'Liqourice' is received well by the crowd and it is clear that Banks has amassed a loyal following in a short time.
'212' rumbles out across the site and the blistering beats makes the crowd jump and dance as Azealia performs a huge version of this anthemic track. Away from her attitude and forthright nature, Banks is a talented performer with an intelligent take on rap.

I had the pleasure to see one of the most underrated female rappers Azealia Banks at Glastonbury and she did an awesome set. I don't care what anyone says, she looked fierce with her weird green cactus outfit on. Her background dancers were dressed like her and were jamming, almost voguing.
She performed a lot of her songs and put on a very good show. It was live from the moment she stepped on stage until the time she got off. She kept the energy level up the whole time. When she performed my favorite Harlem Shake, we all just broke out in dance.
I really liked the background of the stage when she performed it was different pictures of Azealia in different poses and facial expressions. There were also weird visuals of jellyfish and sea creatures, seapunk, yo! What I like the most about Azealia is her stage presence. She owned that stage.
A complete failure.
I like her music and find her entertaining, which is why I went, but this "concert" was a huge disappointment. I'll layout the timeline and that will explain everything.
7pm - Doors open.
8pm - Show starts (officially, but not really).
8:20pm - The opening band starts. Not even a rapper but a local DJ. Bearable.
10:45pm - Still no Azealia Banks. My friend and I are bored from listening to club music, standing around, and watching other people post on social media that they are annoyed at Azealia Banks. We leave.
11:10pm - Azealia Banks finally shows up and starts playing! (We have a friend who stayed and kept me up to date with the concert.)
11:55pm - Show's over.
So the show starts late, the opener played for 3 hours, and Azealia Banks played for 45 minutes. What a waste.
Awesome concert.....I loved seeing Lolawolf who attracted Willow and Jaden Smith to the dance floor....and then Miss Banks jumps on the stage ......Idle Miss Delilah and she ended with racks racks racks and 212.....she shook that booty and rocked an attitudie.....I loved the crowed as I'm sure I was the oldest person there.....keep bumpin' mama....WORD!!!!.....xoxo
Aaah! It was insane! The energy level of this show was thru the roof!! Azealia never disappoints. This was a real fun mofo show!!!! She packed the house and everyone was dancing all night long, song after song. She gave a really fun performance. Her talent is insane.
Although the wait was a little long - the only information we had was that the show was supposed to start "late" - it was totally worth it.
Azealia did an amazing job bringing people's energy up that late. The only problem was that it was a little short...
AZEALIA BANKS SLAYED MY LIFE. I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND SHE WAS AMAZING AND FLAWLESS. IT WAS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!! I HOPE SHE PLAYS IN LA AGAIN SOON

Azealia Banks’ Australian tour organisers respond to rapper’s allegations it was a “scam”
Point Productions have called Banks' allegations "untrue", while Bizarro have shared a lengthy recount of the tour's many complications which they claim were caused by the rapper
The organisers of Azealia Banks ‘ recent Australian tour – which was marked by shows being cancelled at the last minute and the US rapper disparaging Australia’s “weak ass currency” – have responded to her claims they orchestrated a “scam”.
Earlier today (December 20), Banks shared a series of Instagram stories in which she made the claims, reiterating her previous assertion that the tour will be her last time performing in Australia. “The entire run was a setup scam between [promoters] Bizarro and Point Blank Productions,” Banks wrote.
“Both promoters got paid off of my hard work and are now trying to cite all these stupid things as reasons not to pay me a dime. I flew all the way across the world to go home empty handed.”
Banks then warned other artists to ignore requests from Bizarro or Point Blank. “There will be impossible slave like structure[s] to the contract at which point they will use any and every point to not pay you,” she alleged. Banks called the team at Bizarro “literal 21 year old coke heads”.
Both Bizarro and Point Productions (which is under the parent company Point Blank Group) have since responded. In a lengthy statement from Bizarro issued today and obtained by NME , the company said the last fortnight had been “by far the most physically and mentally draining experience in this industry for us”.
“Bizarro’s involvement in this tour was exclusively to present Azealia’s two primary shows – Sydney and Melbourne. This deal was made with Point Blank Group, the touring agency bringing Azealia out from the USA, and finalised in May 2022.
“It should be noted that half of Azealia’s double offer fee was paid to her agent in May 2022. A couple of months before the tour, Azealia posted to Instagram stating the Australian tour was cancelled. This was quickly reversed, however she had already generated doubt in her Australian fan base.”
Recommended
Bizarro said things “began to fall apart” when Banks’ visa request, filed by Point Blank Group, had been pushed back on by immigration two weeks prior to the tour’s commencement. “Further documentation including a character reference as well as police reports were apparently requested due to a legal matter involving Azealia a number of years ago.”
The visa remained unapproved 24 hours before the tour’s scheduled Melbourne show at Festival Hall on December 10, while Banks was stuck in New Zealand after having performed there. “On the morning of the show we did everything we could to aid the application process so that she would make her flight from Auckland to Melbourne with an approved visa,” Bizarro said.
The visa was finally approved 20 minutes after “the last feasible flight from Auckland to Melbourne” had left. Bizarro said that they sought other avenues to get Banks into the country such as private jets, but that it proved impossible. The show was cancelled hours before doors, with promoters incurring the full venue cancellation fee as a result.
At the time the show’s cancellation was announced, promoters said a rescheduled event would be announced, something Banks swiftly denied. According to Bizarro, they were informed the following day (December 11) that Banks was willing to do a rescheduled show after all the following weekend – this ended up taking place at the Timber Yard on Sunday night (December 18).
Bizarro added that they spent much of December 11– the day of Banks’ Sydney show at the Enmore Theatre – “ensuring Azealia was kept happy for her performance”. They said Banks arrived at the venue 30 minutes after she was scheduled to start her performance, despite being warned this could result in a shortened performance time. “We are beyond grateful to the management of the venue for their flexibility and assistance with this issue.”
Bizarro met with Banks and her team the following day to discuss her rescheduled Melbourne show, where the rapper “expressed gratitude for putting on the Sydney show, and told us how we should all work together to deliver a Melbourne performance the following weekend” of the same standard.
“Numerous promises were made by Azealia and her team, including the use of social media to create positivity and excitement for a show that she previously claimed wouldn’t be rescheduled, and the aid of merchandise sales to help recover from the losses incurred thus far.”
According to Bizarro, Banks said she “loved being here” and planned to return next year. The next day (December 13), Banks’ planned show at the Tivoli in Brisbane was cancelled, also just prior to doors. Taking to Instagram, the rapper blamed promoters once again , saying it would be her last time touring Australia as the country “makes me utterly miserable”.
“We were blown away, knowing full well that our ticket holders would be doubtful of a performance in Melbourne,” Bizarro’s statement continued. “With the previous day’s conversations fresh in our mind, we couldn’t believe how quickly her perspective had changed.”
Bizarro said they spent the following week “tirelessly pulling together” the replacement Melbourne show, feeling that they “owed it to our supporters… despite the fact we were going against a rapidly crumbling sense of positivity for the show, reflected in a rapid increase in demands for refunds”. They added that payment was made to Banks’ touring agent.
“Throughout this process we weren’t given any help whatsoever from Azealia or her team, being told directly by Azealia that it was our job to convince people she would perform despite our conversation just days earlier.”
Banks performed for the Poof Doof club night at the Ivy in Sydney on Saturday (December 17), and according to Bizarro, missed her flight to Melbourne the following morning, arriving four hours later than planned.
“Our team worked tirelessly to ensure she would play a full set length, such as moving her set time half an hour earlier, assuming she would be late. We had a van waiting outside of her hotel to take her to the venue at the agreed time of 8:30PM, she did not leave her hotel room until 10PM, arriving at the venue well beyond what would be considered reasonable.
“We told her tour manager countless times that there was a strict curfew at the venue which had no flexibility. Unsurprisingly, she had no respect for this condition, brought a private team and payment gateway to sell her merchandise without us approving it, and performed well under the expected set length.”
Following the Timber Yard show, Banks had a show booked at Chasers in Prahran, also for Poof Doof. According to Bizarro, she arrived more than two hours late for the show and refused to get on stage unless she was paid additional cash by the promoter.
“We were advised by a former member of Azealia’s team yesterday that we would be wise to get a statement out as Azealia was likely to post slanderous and defamatory content very soon,” Bizarro’s statement continues.
“Little did we know she would be claiming we had been paid off her hard work, despite losing tens of thousands of dollars due to her cancelled show and willingness to destroy the hope of a successful replacement show. She has claimed to have not been paid a dime, despite the fact her generous artist fees have been paid by us in full.
“Whilst we have paid our fees to Azealia’s touring agent, we have also been led to believe that the majority of her tour has been paid to her personally in full, despite her willingness to burn down every show of the run. Her slanderous claims made against us personally as individuals and scammers are entirely false. Whilst we don’t generally expect contracted artists to assist us in promoting their shows, we certainly haven’t ever had an artist actively work against us like this.
“We were not naive to Azealia’s reputation, but we were excited by her as an artist and felt confident that these were over sensationalised by the media and that she meant well. The lack of care she shows to her team, the people she works with, and her fans was truly disappointing to see.
“She was not present for any press opportunities, she failed to arrive at any event in a timely manner, she willingly posted inaccurate, disrespectful and slanderous content online, and her lack of care and appreciation for her fans, who make such an event possible, was disgraceful.”
Read the statement from Bizarro below, which was shared first by News.com.au entertainment editor Nick Bonds:
Statement from Azealia Banks’ Australian tour promoter… that Enmore show was a miracle, hey pic.twitter.com/pHkhQxBmhq — Nick Bond (@bondnickbond) December 20, 2022
After NME reached out to Point Productions, the company also offered a statement in which they strongly denied Banks’ claims against them.
“Point Productions is aware of recent disparaging comments by Ms Banks about us, and about her experience during her tour of Australia. Her allegations against us are untrue and we disagree with her comments,” the statement reads.
“We deliver the highest standard of excellence to all of our talent. Ms Banks was no exception. We can confidently say that we did everything possible to meet Ms Banks’ expectations, and to create an accommodating and safe experience for her, her fans and everyone involved at the shows and on tour.”
Banks has since responded to the Bizarro statement in a series of Instagram Stories on the same account , dismissing it as “garbage”, saying “I don’t even know what half the shit in that fucking statement is” and telling the promoters to “get a fucking life” and “get off my dick”.
“I’m really laughing at the way these n****s tried to write a sophisticated narrative about how they fucking broke,” she said in one of several videos posted to her Instagram Stories (but with a black screen).
And in another video, where she appeared on camera, Banks called the statement “an attempt to assassinate my character” and raised again the question of the payment she says she’s owed. “Where the cash at?” she asked.
Prior to this tour, Banks last performed in Australia in 2015, when she described her appearance at that year’s Splendour in the Grass festival as a “waste of [her] fucking time”, and lambasted “terrible” crowds in the country for being “violent and belligerent”.

Azealia Banks Slams Australian Tour Promoters, Confirms This Tour Will be her Last
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Azealia Banks has taken one final swipe at her tour promoters and Australia in general, labelling the entire run of shows a “scam”.
In a series of Instagram stories today (December 20th), Banks confirmed she would not be returning to the country following this tumultuous tour – which involved her abruptly cancelling her Brisbane show at the last minute over concerns that the audience would throw things at her onstage, and also missing her originally scheduled Melbourne show over “visa issues”.
Azealia Banks: ‘The Big Big Beat’
With her tour now wrapped up, she’s now accused promoters Point Productions and Bizarro of running the tour as a “scam”. “Both promoters got paid off of my hard work,” she wrote on Instagram. “And are now trying to cite all these stupid things as reasons not to pay me a dime.”
She went on to warn other artists against using the promoters for their tours, writing they have “slave-like” structures in their contracts. “I flew all the way across the world to go home empty-handed. Sweet. I will not be back,” she wrote, before saying her tour was “charity”.
“The ever-charitable, generous queen Azealia Banks. I’m not just a charity for fuckin Australia. I hope y’all enjoyed the shows. I had fun – I did, I enjoyed myself. (But) I’m not coming back down here.”
She also added that the promoters were “pubic lice”, and again pointed out the weak exchange rate of Australian currency against US currency.
In a statement given to news.com.au , Point Productions said her allegations were “untrue”.
“Point Productions is aware of recent disparaging comments by Ms Banks about us, and about her experience during her tour of Australia,” read the statement.
“We deliver the highest standard of excellence to all of our talent. Ms Banks was no exception. We can confidently say that we did everything possible to meet Ms Banks’ expectations, and to create an accommodating and safe experience for her, her fans and everyone involved at the shows and on tour.”
Bizarro has not yet commented on her allegations.

Azealia Banks postpones Melbourne, Brisbane shows as Australian tour in chaos
Azealia Banks appears unfazed that two of her Australian shows have been cancelled at the last minute, taking to Instagram with a wild brag as fans lash out.

Heartbreaking update on young Swiftie fan
Azealia Banks’ Australian tour is off to a nightmare start.
The US rapper – who is playing three December shows as part of her Oz tour – abruptly postponed her first concert in Melbourne Saturday night just hours before she was set to take the stage at Festival Hall, citing visa issues.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that tonight’s Melbourne show with Azealia Banks will not proceed due to Azealia’s visa not being granted in time for her performance,” Banks’ promoter said in a statement.
It came just days after the 31-year-old 212 hit maker postponed her Brisbane show at The Tivoli, which was due to take place on December 8. It will now be happening on December 13.
There’s currently no rescheduled date for the Melbourne concert, with Ticketmaster claiming it will be announced “soon”.
Banks is slated to perform in Sydney at the Enmore theatre tonight, December 11, however it’s understood fans haven’t been sent their tickets yet.
Despite the chaos, Banks appeared unfazed as she took to Instagram with a photo of herself looking at her phone, writing in the caption, “I’m rich - like a hot rod.”
Banks’ promoter insisted her Sydney show would happen as planned.
“The visa has since been granted and we are moving forward as planned with the Sydney & Brisbane show. We are currently exploring a new Melbourne date next weekend and will be back soon with further information.”
Ticket holders have since taken to Twitter to air their frustrations over the postponements, with some fearing further hiccups:
I have tickets for Azealia Banks in Brisbane and I'll be very pleasantly surprised if she performs. It has already been postponed once and now this Melbourne drama. ð — Sam (@SamDickfos) December 10, 2022

The rapper is in New Zealand having performed a show in Auckland on December 9.
But it appears that concert was also marred by a late start and a condensed set.
In a video posted on Twitter, a trio of Kiwi fans can be heard saying Banks’ concert at Spark Arena was “f***ing sh*t”.

“We went to Azealia and we got f***ing Azealia’d,” a man says. “[It was a] 30 minute f***ing set,” a woman adds. “And she just left. She didn’t even say ‘Hey, thanks for coming.’ Just left.”
“And then the house lights came on after 30 minutes, three hours after doors opened,” the man said.
Banks hasn’t had the best history performing in Australia.
In 2013, she infamously walked off the stage just 90 seconds into her set at the Listen Out Festival in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.
The then 22-year-old had pulled the same stunt the weekend prior in Sydney, abandoning the stage 15 minutes into her 50-minute headline set when a can of beer was thrown at her.
At the time, she tweeted a mediocre apology to her Melbourne fans, writing: “Sorry to all the festival-goers in Melbourne!!!!! See you tomorrow in Brisbane!!!!’’
Banks, who is perhaps better known for her Twitter rants, is no stranger to controversy, and most recently made headlines in June for her topless meltdown at the Miami Pride Festival .
After performing four songs, the rapper ranted about whether she was a headliner for the concert and seemed confused about her set time.

“I’m really not happy to be here,” she shouted at the audience, before doubling down, “I really don’t wanna f***ing be here.”
At that point, her microphone was cut off, which saw her storm off the stage.
The crowd started booing when they realised the music star was not going to return and finish her set.
This is savage. One of the biggest rappers of the 21st century just performed to a near-empty arena meant to house 10,000 screaming fans.

Azealia Banks , who is currently on tour in Australia , has vowed she will never return to perform in the country again.
The singer and rapper cancelled her Tuesday 13 December show in Brisbane hours before she was due to appear on stage, saying in an Instagram video that a past gig in the city was “the most racist, most demoralising experience of my f***ing life”.
Banks had been set to perform in both Brisbane and Melbourne earlier this week, but both concerts were postponed due to “visa issues”. She performed in Sydney on Sunday night (11 December) and her Melbourne show has been rescheduled for this Saturday (17 December).
“I’m so sorry you guys – actually I’m not sorry – but listen: last time I was in Brisbane and y’all threw s*** on the stage and damn near almost f***ing hit me in the face with a f***ing bottle of soda or whatever that s*** was,” Banks said in the clip shared on her social media.
“That was the most racist, most demoralising experience of my f***ing life and right now I’m on a really good track.”

She added: “Sydney and Melbourne are the only cities I really want to play. Y’all got a whole different culture around here. I am too far away from home… I am a beautiful Black woman and I am not going to get in front of some audience of white people for them to be throwing s*** at me.
“I am so not sorry. I am not sorry at all. Brisbane, y’all are just going to have to take the L and smoke it.”
She later said: “After this run this will be my very last time touring Australia.
“This place makes me utterly miserable and I’m too Black and beautiful to have a bunch of white people in my face playing with me over their WEAK ASS CURRENCY.”
Earlier this year, Banks stormed off stage midway through her performance at Wynwood Pride in Miami, telling fans she was “really not happy to be here”.

In one video of the event, fans could be seen booing the “212” singer after she threw her microphone to the floor. As she walked off, one audience member appeared to throw a drink at her, prompting her to put both her middle fingers up at the crowd.
In 2016, Banks was suspended from Twitter following a series of racially charged tweets attacking singer and former One Direction star Zayn Malik. She later issued an apology.
She was suspended again in 2020 for a series of transphobic tweets.

Azealia Banks’ Melbourne Tour Date Is Back On Despite ‘Racist’ Outburst
Despite its modest three-show itinerary, Azealia Banks’ tour of Australia has produced more drama than Netflix’s The Crown , with her Brisbane show scrapped on show day and the U.S. artist’s Melbourne date abruptly postponed and, now, rescheduled.
Produced by Bizarro and Point Productions , part of Point Bank Group, whose managing director is Sian Van Der Muelen, better known as the artist Miss Blanks, the trek kicked off last Friday (Dec. 9) with a one-off show at Auckland’s Spark Arena — a late addition to the itinerary.
The jaunt entered unknown territory when the New York rapper’s tour party then hopped the Tasman for the east coast opener at Melbourne’s Festival Hall, a show that was postponed on the day due to “visa” problems. According to a statement issued by the venue operators, the gig would “not proceed due to Azealia’s visa not being granted in time for her performance.”
The statement continues, “We are currently exploring a new Melbourne date next weekend and will be back soon with further information.” The visa “has since been granted,” the statement continued, “and we are moving forward as planned” with the Sydney and Brisbane show. Bank seemingly tore up those plans when she reposted her promoter’s original statement with the comment: “Ahem, the promoters dragged their feet, agreed to provide a number of amenities which were not provided. “I have been at the airport since 7am. There will be no rescheduled Melbourne show, and I will be paid in full for [the promoter’s] fuck up.” She continued: “Major apologies to the fans who bought tickets but there will be no rescheduled show. I have shit to do.” Soon after, Banks deleted that message. Though not before social media users captured it and spread it wide .
Despite those sentiments, Banks went on to complete her Sydney show Sunday night (Dec. 11) at the Enmore Theatre, as planned.
The tour took another detour when, on Tuesday (Dec. 13), Banks’ concert at Brisbane’s 700-capacity Tivoli theatre — a concert originally penciled-in for Dec. 8 before it too was rescheduled — was cancelled.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that the Azealia Banks Brisbane show will not be able to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances,” reads a statement on the venue’s social channels . “Point Productions would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused, this has been well out of our control.” TMN reached out Point Blank for comment, though had received no reply at the time of writing. As previously reported in TMN’s sister title Tone Deaf , the Harlem rapper scrubbed her Queensland show after calling out fans in these parts for providing the “most racist, most demoralizing experience” of her life and vowing never to come back to the country .
“I’m so sorry you guys – actually I’m not sorry – but listen: last time I was in Brisbane and y’all threw s— on the stage and damn near almost f—ing hit me in the face with a f—ing bottle of soda or whatever that s— was,” Banks said on Instagram.
She added, ‘That was the most racist, most demoralizing experience of my f—ing life and right now I’m on a really good track.”
The “212” rapper continued , “I am too far away from home … I am a beautiful black woman and I am not going to get in front of some audience of white people for them to be throwing s— at me. I am so not sorry.
“I am not sorry at all.”
Another twist. On Wednesday (Dec. 14), Point Productions announced a new Melbourne venue (The Timber Yard) and date (Sunday, Dec. 18) have been locked in.
“It’s on,” reads a statement. “We’d like to thank everyone that purchased tickets and were patient with us while we managed to secure a new date and venue.” The message continues, “As you can imagine, turning around a show of this scale within a week, during the most busiest periods of the year, is a mammoth task.”
If you’ve followed Banks career, you’ve been kept busy.
The outspoken artist isn’t shy of a beef, and she’s had spicey things to say about Australia and its people, including rapper Iggy Azalea and Oscar winner Russell Crowe.
Following her appearance at Splendour In The Grass in 2015 , she tweeted, “You guys are terrible crowds to play for. You’re violent and belligerent and I simply… will not put my safety at risk. I would’ve walked off stage had someone thrown something,” she said in a string of tweets.
On her arrival for those dates, she noted how “beautiful” the country was. Within hours, she’d shared a tale of spotting a man at Gold Coast airport who had “a knife and tried to stab people.”
There were prior issues with Aussie audiences. She reportedly bailed on her show at Melbourne’s Listen Out Festival in 2013 after just 90 seconds when a beer was pitched at the stage. It was a similar story when she played at the Sydney leg of the event; a drink hurtled to the stage, and Banks apparently walked early.
In 2016, Banks made global headlines when she claimed Russell Crowe assaulted her and called her the n-word before tossing her from a party.
Wu-Tang Clan ‘s RZA , who invited her to the hang in Los Angeles, had an entirely different take .

'Broke and racist': US rapper Azealia Banks doubles down on searing criticism of Australia during multi-city tour
The New York-born rapper has delivered another searing critique of Australia as “racist” and levelled damning allegations against the touring companies which brought her to the country.
Azealia Banks has ended her contentious Australian tour with a bang by making a series of fiery public potshots at the country.
The American rapper’s trip Down Under has been mired with controversy after she cancelled several shows due to an alleged history of racist incidents in Australia and vowed never to return to the country again after her tour concluded.
She performed for Poof Doof at Sydney’s Ivy nightclub on Saturday, and promptly took to her Instagram stories less than a day after to slam her tour promoters, Australians and the country itself.
“Y’all white people down here are broke and racist,” she wrote.

Banks made bombshell claims about her tour promoters in amongst the critical Instagram stories, alleging the tour was a “setup scam” between promoter Bizarro and Point Blank Productions.
“Both promoters got paid off of my hard work,” she said.
“And are now trying to cite all these stupid things as reasons not to pay me a dime.
“I flew all the way across the world to go home empty handed.”
“Like honestly, I’m not trying to rag on Australia even more than I have been ragging on y’all,” she said.
“But this like little 61 cents dollar, it’s like, I would spend a lot more money trying to sue these promoters for their little Australian pennies.
“I’m not just a charity for f*****g Australia.
“And I’m not coming back down here. I’m not coming back down here, y’all are pop.”
Bizarro have confirmed to the Herald Sun they had paid Banks despite her claims of going home “empty handed”.
“Whilst we have paid our fees to Azealia’s touring agent, we have also been led to believe that the majority of her tour has been paid to her personally in full, despite her willingness to burn down every show of the run,” they said in a statement.
The promoter also said the rapper’s comments were “entirely false”.
“She was not present for any press opportunities, she failed to arrive at any event in a timely manner, she willingly posted inaccurate, disrespectful and slanderous content online, and her lack of care and appreciation for her fans, who make such an event possible, was disgraceful,” they said.
The tour's other promoter, Point Productions, told Sky News that Banks' allegations were "untrue".
"We deliver the highest standard of excellence to all of our talent. Ms Banks was no exception. We can confidently say that we did everything possible to meet Ms Banks’ expectations, and to create an accommodating and safe experience for her, her fans and everyone involved at the shows and on tour," they said in a statement.

The rapper - who shot to fame in 2012 with the hit song 212 - is no stranger to controversy.
Known for her incendiary social media presence and years-long online arguments with rappers such as Australia’s Iggy Azalea, the musician has had her Twitter account suspended on several occasions.
The Australian tour was the first time Banks had ventured overseas since the Coronavirus pandemic, a move which she has since come to regret.
“My gut instinct told me not to come down here and stay my ass home,” she said.
“Next time I will listen to myself.”

‘Disgraceful’: promoter criticises Azealia Banks for behaviour on Australia tour
Bizarro claims the US rapper was always late and showed ‘lack of care’ towards fans, while the artist hit back alleging she had not been paid
- Get our morning and afternoon news emails , free app or daily news podcast
The promoter behind Azealia Banks’s chaotic Australian tour has slammed her as the most “disgraceful” client they’ve ever worked with.
Bizarro was responsible for two of the US rapper’s shows as part of her Australia and New Zealand tour, in a deal finalised in May with touring agency Point Blank Group.
The trip was plagued from its inception, with last-minute show cancellations, varied sets and social media tirades culminating in Banks’s assurance she would never step foot on Australian shores again.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Bizarro said the past fortnight had been its most “physically and mentally draining” ever, suggesting it wasn’t “naive” to Banks’s reputation but felt she “meant well” and had been over-sensationalised in the media.
“The lack of care she shows to her team, the people she works with and her fans was truly disappointing to see,” it said.
“She was not present for any press opportunities, she failed to arrive at any event in a timely manner, she willingly posted inaccurate, disrespectful and slanderous content online, and her lack of care and appreciation for her fans, who make such an event possible, was disgraceful.”
In a final spray on Instagram earlier on Tuesday, Banks claimed Bizarro and Point Productions were “trying to cite all these stupid things as reasons not to pay me a dime” and had flown “all the way across the world to go home empty handed”.
“In all this attempt to assassinate my character there’s no mention of my mother fucking money, where is the money bitch, where the cash at?” she wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
“… you’re trying to use a character assassination as a means to not pay someone for work that they did, just say you’re broke and fucking go.”

Bizarro slammed the claims as “slanderous” and “entirely false”.
“Whilst we have paid our fees to Azealia’s touring agent, we have also been led to believe that the majority of her tour has been paid to her personally in full, despite her willingness to burn down every show of the run,” Bizarro said, adding it had lost “tens of thousands” of dollars due to cancelled shows.
Visa troubles prevented Banks from flying to Melbourne up to 24 hours before her scheduled show on 10 December – the first time Bizarro said it was informed of the issue.
Bizarro said it did “everything” to aid the application process on the morning of the show but final approval arrived too late, resulting in the postponement of her first performance hours before doors.
after newsletter promotion
Bizarro alleged the day of the following Sydney show at the Enmore Theatre, Banks arrived 30 minutes late, sent “abusive” messages to her manager and requested no other artists backstage. The performance was widely lauded by fans.
Bizarro said there had been “consistent mention” the process would be worth it due to her intention to return to Australia in 2023. “She told us that she loved being here and that she needed to get out of Miami,” it said.
The following day, Banks cancelled her show in Brisbane hours before she was due to go on stage, citing a past concert in the city as “the most racist, most demoralising experience of my fucking life” and Australia as an “utterly miserable” country.
“We were blown away,” Bizarro said. “Throughout this process we weren’t given any help whatsoever from Azealia or her team, being told directly by Azealia that it was our job to convince people she would perform.”
Bizarro claimed Banks arrived at her rescheduled Melbourne shows hours late, performed “well under the expected set length”, at one point refusing to get on stage unless a promoter paid her “additional money in cash”.
“Whilst we don’t generally expect contracted artists to assist us in promoting their shows, we certainly haven’t ever had an artist actively work against us like this,” it said.
Banks has been approached for comment.

Azealia Banks Tour Promoters Rebuke Artist’s “Disgraceful” Tour Behaviour
By Giuliano Ferla
Azealia Banks ’ beleaguered Australian tour has reached its predictable close as promoters Bizarro label her behaviour on tour as “disgraceful”. The saga, which we first wrote about here , included a cancelled show in Brisbane, a rescheduled show in Melbourne, visa issues and missed flights, all of which were punctuated by Banks’ belligerent social media posts.
Bizarro detailed their experience of working with Banks and her team in a long statement, printed in full on The Music .
Azealia Banks – ‘212’
According to the statement, the promoters put in “hours of desperate work” to make shows go ahead with an artist who was seemingly doing her best to sabotage them. Pulling no punches, they cited “[Banks’] willingness to burn down every show of the run”, her “lack of care and appreciation for her fans” and refuted her claims that she had not been paid.
The artist’s 2011 breakthrough hit ‘212’ is considered one of the best songs of all time according to Rolling Stone , and was placed sixth in Pitchfork’s best songs of the 2010s . In recent years, however, Banks has more often been in the news because of her controversial views and social media stoushes .
While the pile on continues, one may wonder whether, given Banks’ colourful history, Bizarro and Point Productions were really all that wise in trying to capitalise on her infamy in the first place.

Azealia Banks Slams Doechii as ‘Ugly Version’ of Her, Gets Response: 'You Sellin Bussy Soap... Leave Me Alone’
Banks also slammed other TDE artists, including SZA and Isaiah Rashad.
Azealia Banks ’ latest target for criticism is 25-year-old rapper and singer Doechii .
The “212” rapper, 32, used Instagram stories to bash Doechii, saying that Top Dawg Entertainment recruited an “ugly version” of her. She even took to Doechii's Instagram comments after she asked her fanbase what their nickname should be.
"Definitely should call them the 'wannabe's,'" wrote Banks in a comment, which prompted a response from Doechii.
"The first time you came for me I let it slide outta respect for my elders," wrote Doechii. "It's not my fault you sellin bussy soap and I'm sellin platinum records. Leave me alone PLEASE."
Earlier this year Doechii celebrated her first platinum record for "What It Is."

The back-and-forth comes after Banks called the TDE artist "ugly" in a recent Instagram stories rant.
“They find this kind of like ugly version of—well, she’s not even a version,” Banks said. “She’s ugly. And I hate to call a dark skin girl ugly because she just is ugly. She’d be ugly if she were light skin. They find this ugly girl and they try to sic her on Azealia Banks.”

Banks' comments follow the release of Doechii’s new single, "Alter Ego," featuring JT, where both artists rap over a house beat. Banks shut down any comparisons between her and the TDE artist by further disparaging Doechii’s musical talent.

“Doechii, girl, first off, I don’t really think anyone thinks your music is impressive,” Banks said. “So that means you need to go back and you need to discover who you are as an artist.”
Banks then sang a short melody, before adding, “I don’t know why everybody associates that sound with me because I don’t have any songs—I don’t have a single song that has that synth on it.”

Later on, Banks widened her scope to target TDE’s entire roster.
“TDE is going out fucking sad,” she said, slamming Isaiah Rashad for “sucking dick” and SZA for being “boring,” before returning to Doechii. Doechii signed with TDE in 2022, becoming the label's first female rapper.
“You got this like Doechii chick, who I have no fucking clue who she is,” Banks said. “She’s been having this months-long dialogue with some fake Azealia Banks account and I guess thinks that I owe her some sort of collab. Honey, no.”
Y’all can kiss the “Crazy” remix goodbye. 6 hours after teasing the collab Azealia is already talking sh*t about Doechii, the rest of TDE, and Rico Nasty. https://t.co/l9SeqMsKGL pic.twitter.com/IeQ5G0i8Ff — Rap Alert (@rapalert6) April 22, 2022
The collab Azealia was referencing is likely Doechii’s 2022 song “Crazy.” According to screenshots from that year, Banks and Doechii were once in talks to do a remix of the track.

This isn’t the first time Banks had smoke for a TDE artist.
In 2015, Banks blasted Kendrick Lamar for comments he made in a Billboard interview about the death of Mike Brown. Later, in 2022, she had more choice words for him, calling him “mad, overrated and extremely complacent.”
