Is your Instagram account missing some color? Look no further. Smile Safari in Brussels is a giant Instagram and TikTok playground with lots of funky backgrounds, where you can get creative, strike a pose and be the star of the show!

First Instagram museum in Belgium

In Autumn 2019, Smile Safari opened as a pop-up Instagram museum at Tour and Taxis . The concept originated in America, where several Instagram museums are scattered throughout the country. Visitors can take perfect selfies in front of original, colorful backgrounds and share their photos on social media. The temporary pop-up museum was a big success, so they now have a permanent venue in the Galeries Anspach.

We had the opportunity to check out this new Instagram museum. It was like entering Disney World for Instagrammers! There are about 30 different rooms, each with a different theme, vibe and color. You can jump out of a cake, bathe in money, swing through the jungle, surf on a slice of pizza, and much more.

To be honest, we felt a bit uncomfortable at first, mostly because we’re better at taking photos than at striking poses, but this place made it so easy to act like a real Instagram model. Thanks to an amazing setting and great lighting, almost all photos came out stunning.

What should you wear?

If you’re wondering what to wear, you can either go for something neautral that matches all backgrounds... or take multiple outfits. There is a dressing room available, so you can easily change outfits whenever you see fit.

Get your smile on

The Instagram museum is best enjoyed with friends. One, for practical reasons because it’s not a selfie museum and you’ll need someone to help you take photos. And two, because together it’s so much more fun!

Practical information More information on the Smile Safari website Smile Safari is open every day from 10am to 18pm On Wednesday and Friday, Smile Safari is open from 12 AM to 6 PM. On Saturday and Sunday, it is open from 10 AM to 6 PM. Entrance via Boulevard Anspach 24. When the shopping centre is closed on Sundays, you can enter via Rue Gréty 12 A ticket costs 20.40 EUR for adults, and 18.40 EUR for kids under 16. Make sure to charge your phone before you visit, or even better, bring a battery pack. You’ll need it.

'Instagram museum' Smile Safari returns to Brussels

Need inspiration for your next Instagram selfie? After a successful try-out at Tour & Taxis last autumn – attracting 30,000 visitors in three months – a place described as “the biggest Instagram and TikTok museum in Europe” is back in a more permanent guise, right in the centre of Brussels.

Smile Safari is a place where TikTokkers and Instagrammers can pose next to all sorts of backdrops for their pictures and videos. “It’s Disneyland for the Instagram generation,” organiser Hannes Coudenys told The Bulletin.

“I discovered this concept in Los Angeles at the Paul Smith store, where I saw rows of people waiting in line, not to enter the store but to take their selfies in front of the store’s pink façade.

“The phenomenon spread across the US with popup museums in most major cities. Artists, brands and influencers have created an intensified attention to our surroundings in their quest for the perfect photo so this sort of place seems inevitable.

“What we most want to accomplish is offering a place where people can just have fun.”

Located in Anspach Shopping, the museum will make you the star of a whole slew of different backgrounds, amusing, bizarre or stylish. In addition to the best of the backdrops from last year’s pop-up museum, there are new ones, plus TikTok backdrops, a Staycation Island, karaoke booth, disco and many more environments.

“We also have optical illusions,” said Coudenys. “We have a motorbike that’s standing on its back wheel so it seems that you are doing a wheelie, we have a car that we’ve taken the roof off, we have these treadmills where you can practice your catwalk, we have a circus environment where you can try to juggle and use a hula hoop.

“We added Tik Tok this year because last year we noticed that a lot of youngsters have switched from Instagram and that they do a lot of TikTok. So we changed our museum a bit so that it’s a place where you can take videos as well, so it’s an even more interactive experience.”

The coronavirus restrictions require advance booking and social distancing – but you can remove your mask when posing for each photo or video.

“We were a bit scared that people would have to wear their masks constantly,” said Coudenys. “But we were assured that when you are at the photo installation and you are inside your bubble of people, you can take your mask off for the picture or the video and then you put it back on to walk through the museum.

“We have different disinfecting stations - everything will be disinfected regularly and we ask the people, of course, to keep the mandated distance from each other.”

A ‘picture-perfect’ Instagram route launched in Brussels

Smile Safari, Europe's largest museum for TikTok and Instagram, has unveiled another project alongside the City of Brussels to feature the best of the city on the social media platform.

The so-called Instatour, unveiled this week, promises a 'picture-perfect' 5k route through the city, passing by striking street art, colourful façades and cosy bars or shops.

"We noticed that visitors often have trouble finding their way in Brussels," Hannes Coudenys, the founder and creative director of the Safari, explained.

" They do come to Smile Safari , but there is a big threshold to go on from there. That is a pity because it is a city that is more than worth discovering! That's why we came up with the idea of developing a new walk that reveals some well-kept hotspots and photo opportunities," he added.

Would-be city explorers can start at the museum, located in Anspach Shopping centre, before visiting 21 of the most Instagram-able places in the city. Notable stops include the LGBT mural by Ralf König (above) and Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, as well as more traditional stops such as Grand-Place.

"With this new walk, we want to show that Brussels has a lot of hidden places and can be of an exceptional beauty, with beautiful pictures as a result," Coudenys explained.

Belgium's first-ever Instagram museum, Smile Safari, opened it's doors this week. The museum, which opened its doors for the first time on October 2 will go on till the end of November. The museum's website boasts that Smile Safari isn't, "just any museum, but an adventure along optical illusions, pink palm trees, rainbows and so much more. Si le pop-up des deux dernières éditions étaient entièrement consacré à Instagram , le Musée Instagram et TikTok devient maintenant un lieu permanent pour la prise de photos créatives et la réalisation de vidéos TikTok interactives . Venez découvrir 70 décors inédits pour les meilleures photos et vidéos.

Smile Safari, the "Instagrammable" museum of which you are the hero

A Belgian company has created a place offering dozens of highly stylized sets allowing visitors to take original selfies to post on social networks

In Lille, a sort of instagrammable “museum” is installed at the Euralille shopping center.

Visitors can use around fifty sets to take original selfies.

Ephemeral, the installation could be extended beyond the deadline set in June 2022.

The Selfie Factory. The Belgian founders of Smile safari, based in Lille, sell their concept as being the “most instagrammable museum” in Europe. An ersatz contemporary art fair where the visitor becomes the main subject of the successive installations. About fifty sets allow the taking of original selfies dedicated to feeding social networks and, perhaps, scratching a few followers.

On the first floor of the Euralille shopping center, Smile Safari is installed on a 1,000 m2 plateau open to the public since Saturday.

This concept was born in Belgium in the minds of com pros, themselves inspired by what was already being done in the United States.

It was in Brussels that the founders of the company installed the first Smile Safari two years ago.

The idea worked so well with our neighbors, with more than 100,000 visitors, that it was perpetuated there.

Visitors are the works of this "museum"

“We use the term 'museum', but it is more of an experience for visitors who are themselves the works,” says Hannes Coudenys, creative director of Smile Safari. Spread over this immense surface, around fifty spots, capsules, bricks, meticulously designed for the sole purpose of generating original photos. “We work with designers to imagine these sets, sometimes taking inspiration from what influencers do on networks like Instagram or TikTok. But the goal is also to offer new spots, ”continues the creative director.

Games of mirrors, games of light, bright colors, ball pools and even a huge candy pink Cadillac. The goal is that each spot constitutes an instagrammable capsule. Does the investment of 500,000 euros justify a rather high entry price of 20 euros per adult? “It's something unique in Europe and we also based ourselves on the rates for equivalent experiences. Young people, more concerned with social networks, do not even ask the question of the price, ”says Hannes Coudenys.

An original profile photo on Insta that makes friends drool with envy is indeed priceless. Lucie, 38, frantically shoots her little daughter Naëlle. “It's to put on his TikTok. She made me promise not to say where it is so that her friends don't sting her, ”laughs the mother. She, for her part, will use the photos to make birthday cards. In the aisles, we also meet a young couple photographing their newborn baby, another older couple, two girlfriends who take turns photographing each other. "A gentleman who was reluctant to enter, pushed by his wife, finally came out with more photos than she", jokes Hannes.

The Lille Pop-up is, for the moment, installed ephemeral with a deadline set for next June.

However, the founders did not rule out extending the experience if attendance was there.

And why not open similar places in other cities in France.

1. Reload Webpage

Let’s start with the basics. You can reload the Instagram webpage in the browser on your mobile or desktop. You can find the refresh icon in the Safari address bar and click on it to reload the page.

2. Try Safari Private Mode

You can try loading Instagram in the Safari Private Mode. The trick also lets you identify if there is any issue with a corrupt cache or third-party extension in Safari.

Step 1: Launch Safari on Mac.

Step 2: Click the File menu at the top-left corner on the menu bar.

Step 3: Click ‘New Private Window.’ Visit Instagram on the web and login with your account details.

Step 1: Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 2: Select the tab switcher menu at the bottom-right corner.

Step 3: Open tabs at the bottom and select Private.

3. Clear Website Data in Safari

You won’t want to use Instagram in Safari Private Mode all the time, as it will ask for login details whenever you try to access Instagram. If Instagram is loading fine in the Private Mode, try clearing your browsing history and access it in the normal mode.

Step 1: Launch Safari on Mac and click Safari menu at the top-left corner on the menu bar.

Step 2: Select Settings from the context menu.

Step 3: Click on Privacy tab at the top and click the ‘Manage Website Data’ button.

Step 4: Select the ‘Remove All’ button at the bottom-left corner.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone and scroll down to tap Safari.

Step 2: Select ‘Clear History and Website Data’ and confirm your decision.

4. Remove Safari Extensions

A third-party Safari extension may prevent you from loading Instagram on Mac, iPhone, or iPad. You need to disable or remove unknown extensions from Safari. Here’s how.

Step 1: Launch Safari on your Mac, click the Safari menu at the top-left corner, and select Settings.

Step 2: Select the Extensions tab at the top and disable an extension or select Uninstall.

Step 1: Head to Safari in iPhone Settings (check the steps above).

Step 2: Select Extensions.

Step 3: Open any extension and disable it from the following menu.

5. Disable iCloud Private Relay

iCloud Private Relay hides your IP address and browsing activity in Safari and protects your internet traffic from prying eyes. If you’re using iCloud Private Relay, some websites like Instagram may not load properly.

Step 1: Click the Apple icon at the top-left corner and open System Settings.

Step 2: Select your account from the left sidebar and click iCloud from the right pane.

Step 3: Click Private Relay and disable it.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone and select your account at the top.

Step 2: Select iCloud and open Private Relay.

Step 3: Disable the Private Relay toggle.

6. Turn off VPN

An active VPN connection on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac can cause issues with Instagram on Safari. You need to disable VPN on your device and try loading Instagram again.

7. Check Instagram Status

If Instagram servers are down, none of the tricks will work to load the service in Safari. You can confirm the issue by searching for Instagram on Downdetector . The home feed won’t load , you can’t send messages or post stories during the downtime. You’ll need to wait for Instagram to fix issues from their end.

8. Update System OS

Apple releases new Safari builds via system updates. Though this sounds like a long shot, you may update your iPhone, iPad, and Mac to the make the latests Instagram app work fine with your Apple devices.

Step 2: Select General from the left sidebar and click System Update from the right pane.

Step 3: Install the latest update.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on iPhone and tap on General.

Step 2: Open Software Update and install the pending OS build.

9. Try Another Browser

If Safari is still giving you troubles, use another browser, such as Chrome or Microsoft Edge , to access your Instagram feed.

Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 193 With Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview , the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed the ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

The current ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ release is compatible with machines running macOS Ventura and macOS Sonoma , the latest version of macOS that Apple released in September 2023.

The ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser . Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website .

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem writes about killing her dog in new book

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem — a potential running mate for presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump — is getting attention again. This time, it's for a new book where she writes about killing an unruly dog, and a smelly goat, too.

The Guardian obtained a copy of Noem's soon-to-be released book, "No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward." In it, she tells the story of the ill-fated Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer she was training for pheasant hunting.

She writes, according to the Guardian, that the tale was included to show her willingness to do anything "difficult, messy and ugly" if it has to be done. But backlash was swift against the Republican governor, who just a month ago drew attention and criticism for posting an infomercial-like video about cosmetic dental surgery she received out-of-state.

In her book, Noem writes that she took Cricket on a hunting trip with older dogs in hopes of calming down the wild puppy. Instead, Cricket chased the pheasants while "having the time of her life."

On the way home from the hunting trip, Noem writes that she stopped to talk to a family. Cricket got out of Noem's truck and attacked and killed some of the family's chickens, then bit the governor.

Noem apologized profusely, wrote the distraught family a check for the deceased chickens, and helped them dispose of the carcasses, she writes. Cricket "was the picture of joy" as all that unfolded.

"I hated that dog," Noem writes, deeming her "untrainable."

"At that moment," Noem writes, "I realized I had to put her down." She led Cricket to a gravel pit and killed her.

That wasn't all. Noem writes that her family also owned a "nasty and mean" male goat that smelled bad and liked to chase her kids. She decided to go ahead and kill the goat, too. She writes that the goat survived the first shot, so she went back to the truck, got another shell, then shot him again, killing him.

Soon thereafter, a school bus dropped off Noem's children. Her daughter asked, "Hey, where's Cricket?" Noem writes.

The excerpts drew immediate criticism on social media platforms, where many posted photos of their own pets. President Joe Biden's reelection campaign surfaced the story on social media alongside a photo of Noem with Trump.

Others piled on, including Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who  posted a photo on X that showed him feeding ice cream to his dog. 

"Post a picture with your dog that doesn't involve shooting them and throwing them in a gravel pit. I'll start," Walz, a Democrat, wrote.

Then Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer replied to Walz's post by adding a photo of herself holding her two dogs.

The Lincoln Project, a conservative group that opposes Trump, posted a video that it called a "public service announcement," showing badly behaved dogs and explaining that "shooting your dog in the face is not an option."

"You down old dogs, hurt dogs, and sick dogs humanely, not by shooting them and tossing them in a gravel pit," Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project wrote on X. "Unsporting and deliberately cruel ... but she wrote this to prove the cruelty is the point."

Noem took to social media to defend herself.

"We love animals, but tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm," she said on X. "Sadly, we just had to put down 3 horses a few weeks ago that had been in our family for 25 years."

She urged readers to preorder her book if they want "more real, honest, and politically INcorrect stories that'll have the media gasping."

Republican strategist Alice Stewart said that while some Republican voters might appreciate the story "as a testament to her grit," it ultimately creates a distraction for Noem.

"It's never a good look when people think you're mistreating animals," Stewart said. "I have a dog I love like a child and I can't imagine thinking about doing that, I can't imagine doing that, and I can't imagine writing about it in a book and telling all the world."

It's not the first time Noem has grabbed national attention.

In 2019, she stood behind the state's anti-meth campaign even as it became the subject of some mockery for the tagline "Meth. We're on it." Noem said the campaign got people talking about the methamphetamine epidemic and helped lead some to treatment.

Last month, Noem posted a nearly five-minute video on X lavishing praise on a team of cosmetic dentists in Texas for giving her a smile she said she can be proud of. "I love my new family at Smile Texas!" she wrote.

South Dakota law bans gifts of over $100 from lobbyists to public officials and their immediate family. A violation is a misdemeanor punishable up to a year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine. The state attorney general's office has declined to answer questions about whether the gift ban applies to people who are not registered lobbyists.
