Hicimos una vuelta a Islandia, y toda su organización y personal terrestre en Islandia ha sido un 10. Algunos hoteles de nuestro circuito, tenían un factor diferente y especial… dormir en una Granja restaurada con Museo ….o una Antigua Escuela reconvertida en Hotel !!Una pasada!!! Volveremos a viajar con ésta Agencia y damos nuestro agradecimiento por la rápida resolución de un pequeño incidente con uno de los hoteles de Reikeavik.

Un sitio muy bueno para contratar tu viaje. Fuimos a Islandia y ellos nos lo organizaron y facilitaron todo con una guía súper completa, además al llegar tuvimos un problema con la oficina de alquier de coche y ellos se encargaron de resolverlo en nada de tiempo, lo que nos ayudó muchísimo. Sin duda si vamos a otro de los destinos que tienen ellos lo contrataremos ahí.

Barcelona itself is known for its vibrant culture and stunning architecture, but the city also serves as a gateway to some of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean.

The Balearic Islands, with their sparkling beaches and diverse landscapes, are just a stone’s throw away. But wait until you hear about the lesser-known islands, each with its unique charm and hidden treasures.

Given that I live in Spain, I’ve been fortunate to have been able to have spent a ton of time exploring Barcelona and its surrounding islands, and I’m excited to share these discoveries with you. From the party havens to tranquil retreats, there’s an island near Barcelona for every type of traveler.

Best islands near Barcelona to visit

1. mallorca.

If you’re in Barcelona and looking for an island getaway, Mallorca should definitely be on your radar. It’s the largest of the Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean Sea.

I have to admit that, before going there, I was sort of wary of the stories I’d heard. You know the ones – hordes of Brits and Germans flooding the island, not a word of Spanish being spoken and so on.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. Yes, sure, there are towns on Mallorca that are like that, especially during the peak summer months, but you can easily stay away from them and have an experience that’s as quiet or active, super local or super foreign, full of beach clubs or secluded coves as you like.

By now, I’ve been there a couple of times, and each visit feels like discovering a new layer of its charm. Getting there is a breeze – you can hop on a flight from Barcelona which takes about an hour, or if you’re up for a more scenic journey, take a ferry, which will get you there in about 7 hours.

And once you get there, Mallorca is a mix of everything you could want from an island destination. Palma, the capital, is a hub of culture and history with its iconic cathedral, La Seu, standing tall in the cityscape.

The island’s beaches, like Playa de Muro and Cala Millor, are perfect for sunbathing and swimming. And if you prefer a more active vacation, check out the Serra de Tramuntana mountains – they offer incredible hiking trails with views that’ll make you want to stay forever.

Foodies will love the local cuisine here. Make sure to try ensaïmada, a sweet pastry that’s a Mallorcan specialty, not to mention the incredible seafood. And if you’re into exploring quaint little towns, Valldemossa and Deià are must-visits with their cobblestone streets and rustic charm.

Sure, a day trip will give you a brief taste, but a longer stay will let you experience the best of what the island has to offer.

How do I get from Barcelona to Mallorca?

To get from Barcelona to Mallorca, you’ve got two main options: flying or taking a ferry. Flying is the quickest way, with the flight taking about an hour. If you prefer the scenic route, ferries run from the Port of Barcelona to various ports in Mallorca, including Palma, Alcudia, and sometimes to smaller ports.

Flying is straightforward – there are several flights each day from Barcelona’s El Prat Airport to Palma de Mallorca Airport. Airlines like Vueling, Iberia, and Ryanair offer regular services, and you can often find good deals if you book in advance. The airport in Mallorca is just a short taxi or bus ride from Palma city center.

The ferry is a more leisurely option. You’ll leave from the Port of Barcelona, which is easily accessible by public transport or taxi.

The ferry journey gives you a chance to relax and enjoy the sea views. Plus, if you’re traveling with a car or want a more budget-friendly option, the ferry might be the way to go.

Renting a bike or a scooter to explore the island is a must. You’ll find charming villages, lighthouses, and salt pans – all set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes.

One of my favorite things about Formentera is its commitment to the environment. The island has a strong focus on sustainability, which means fewer crowds and a more authentic experience.

Make sure to try the local seafood and visit the artisan markets for some unique souvenirs.

Next up, let’s talk about Cabrera. This tiny island is part of the Cabrera Archipelago National Park, located south of Mallorca.

Getting there is a bit of an adventure – it’s accessible by boat from Mallorca, and the trip takes about an hour.

Cabrera is all about unspoiled nature. It’s a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

Hugo Valle es un fotógrafo de paisaje asturiano residente en el Pirineo aragonés que comenzó su andadura en el mundo de la fotografía en el año 2011, de la mano de una modesta cámara bridge. Desde el 2012 hasta la actualidad, ha procurado incansablemente combinar su dedicación a la fotografía con su pasión por viajar, lo que le ha permitido conocer y capturar los más bellos paisajes alrededor del mundo; descubriendo en las zonas de frío y nieve, la montaña y la costa asturiana sus escenarios predilectos.

He estado fascinado con las posibilidades de la fotografía desde mi viaje a Islandia en agosto de 2017. Crecí en Pamplona, una pequeña ciudad en el norte de España. Mis padres siempre me llevaban a explorar la naturaleza, no lejos de mi ciudad. Tenemos los increíbles Pirineos a solo una hora de casa. Pero nunca tuve una cámara o una pasión por la fotografía hasta ese viaje a Islandia, donde compré mi cámara actual. Ese país me dejó alucinado y ahora no puedo vivir sin la fotografía. Creo que la fotografía me hace conectar con la naturaleza de una manera diferente a la que he experimentado antes. La naturaleza es mi inspiración, con toda su belleza, variedad de colores, sonidos y composiciones. La naturaleza me ha hecho viajar y conocer lugares que no pensaba que visitaría.

También trabajó en fotografía de inmobiliaria para agencias de lujo en los Estados Unidos. Información antes de viajar a Islandia

Como llegar.

Puedes volar a Islandia con Icelandair que es la compañía Islandesa, así como con compañías como Iberia, Vueling, Norwegian, British Airways, Wizz Air o Easy Jet por ejemplo. Estas compañias ofrecen vuelos directos y baratos por unos 140€ el trayecto desde España y recientemente desde Mexico por precios que rondan los 15000 pesos mexicanos . Si vives en España tienes vuelos directos desde Madrid y Barcelona, aunque ahora han sido cancelados y la única posibilidad es realizar escalas en ciudades como Londres o Amsterdam. Si viajas desde Mexico, como decimos, la mejor opción es hacer escala en Nueva York o el aeropuerto Heathrow de Londres.

Icelandair ofrece los mejores complementos para tu vuelo . Los billetes incluyen agua, refrescos, té, café y entretenimiento en el vuelo así como incluir la maleta. A la llegada a el Aeropuerto de Keflavik, nuestros guías te estarán esperando, por lo que no tendrás que preocuparte de más logistica.

¿Cuántos días necesito para visitarla?

Puedes ver las localizaciones más populares en alrededor de 7-8 días . Pero para fotógrafos, estar 9-10 días es mejor ya que te permitirá capturar los mejores paisajes a las mejores horas. Si visitas Islandia pocos días, no serás capaz de explorar las principales localizaciones que Islandia te ofrece.

¿Qué moneda se usa?

En Islandia, la moneda es la corona islandesa. Una vez allí puedes pagar con tu tarjeta de crédito o débito. Aunque no se pueda pagar en euros , puedes cambiar a coronas islandesas una vez allí en el mismo aeropuerto. Te recomendamos cambiar alrededor de 100-200 euros o dolares el primer día y usar tu tarjeta durante el tour.

¿Es seguro conducir?

En internet podemos leer que conducir en Islandia  no es seguro. Pero la realidad es que  Islandia tiene buenas carreteras , especialmente la Ring Road. Solo para llegar a algunas localizaciones, puedes encontrarte carreteras de tierra, y por supuesto visitar algunas localizaciones del interior pueden necesitar un vehículo especial. De todas formas, para la mayoría de localizaciones, puedes llegar relativamente fácil con un coche standard. Durante el invierno, y cuando las condiciones no son favorables, conducir en Islandia puede no ser seguro. De esta forma te recomendamos viajar a Islandia con un equipo de guías experto durante el invierno.

¿Se necesita Visa para entrar?

No, puedes entrar a Islandia solo con tu pasaporte desde la mayoría de países. Además, Islandia se encuentra dentro del área Schengen, lo que significa que solo necesitas tu DNI si eres español, pero te sugerimos que también traigas tu pasaporte.

¿Como ir al médico? ¿Es necesario alguna vacuna?

Si eres un ciudadano europeo te sugerimos hacerte con la tarjeta sanitaria europea . Es gratis y puedes pedirla por internet. No hace falta ninguna vacuna especial para entrar a Islandia.

¿Visitamos Reykjavik?

Nuestro taller de fotografía en Islandia esta centrado en la fotografía de paisaje . Pasamos la última noche generalmente en Reykjavik antes de terminar el viaje. Pero no hacemos un tour turístico clásico por la capital. Incluso si la mitad de la población vive aquí, Reykjavik no es una gran ciudad.

Recientemente hice un viaje fotográfico por Islandia con Eduardo, el propietario de PhotoWorldTours. El viaje fue increíble. Sí, Eduardo es un fotógrafo de clase mundial, pero para ser honesto, hay muchos fotógrafos geniales por ahí. Se necesita algo más que experiencia fotográfica para dirigir una gira, particularmente en las condiciones de Islandia, y Eduardo tiene todos los talentos, la visión y el conocimiento para hacerlo, y además, es simplemente un buen tipo que es realmente divertido también (un rasgo que se apreció en algunos de los largos viajes entre ubicaciones).

Me impresionó mucho el conocimiento que tenía Eduardo de los lugares de rodaje, pero también los pequeños detalles logísticos que rodean la fotografía real... como cuando cerró el último restaurante en un pequeño pueblo en un lugar lejano (no quieres volver de una ¡Toma una foto al atardecer y descubre que no puedes comer hasta la mañana siguiente!). También dirigió al grupo con mano firme pero amable… algo que es importante cuando trabajas con seis desconocidos con personalidades muy diferentes.

Y, por supuesto, su experiencia fotográfica no tiene comparación. Su conocimiento de la composición y la creación de arte es tan sorprendente como lo son sus habilidades técnicas tanto en el rodaje como en la edición. Fue muy bueno al guiarnos sobre la mejor manera de fotografiar algo, la lente adecuada para capturarlo y nos dio instrucciones detalladas sobre las cosas que eran nuevas para nosotros, como capturar la aurora.

En general, no puedo decir lo suficiente sobre Eduardo y Photo World Tours. Superó mis expectativas y lo recomiendo ampliamente para un viaje fotográfico por cualquier lugar y en cualquier momento.

Andalucia & Toledo from Barcelona

This has been a dream of mine for years to go to Spain. I booked this tour for my daughter & I. From the moment we were picked up we felt so comfortable and at home. Our tour guides are kind, caring and have a wealth of knowledge of all the towns we visited. Ourvbus drivers were excellent, we always felt safe. The hotels we stayed in were lovely except for the one in Granada, it was old & needed renovating. We laughed a lot and really enjoyed out time. This tour was excellent and much more than I had expected. I definitely recommend this company. Money well worth spent. The towns we visited are spectacular. We arrived one day earlier to see Barcelona as this was not included in the tour. Our meals were lovely. We had enough free time to explore each town we visited. We have enjoyed our time and would like to thank Beatriz in the office who promptly replied to all my messages. Thankyou to Maria, Quadalupe & Miguel our beautiful guides and our bus drivers Davide, &Miguel who made us feel safe & comfortable. We were able to charge our phones on the bus and had free WiFi. Green Spain From Barcelona

It really was a well organised and managed tour. Excellent selection of cities and hotels, good vans and expert/ chatty drivers, especially Gabreal. Just a few suggestions, please, not complaints: 1. Please try and skip Oviedo city. There is nothing there to see, except the church and the old city.The hotel selected also was not as per the quality of the other 2 hotels we stayed in. And obviously the quality of food served was nothing to talk about!!! 3. Can we instead look at staying in Salamanca? Or near that great city? What a place to visit. We could spend more quality time there instead of Oviedo. And we were given just an hour...totally inadequate, please. 4. Perhaps we can have a taped information message of each place we visit, since the drivers of the vans had just basic information about each town, not what a professional guide has. Clearly the element of cost control was being implemented!!! 5. Please do include a city tour of both Barcelona and Madrid. In any case, we pay to use the city tour on the red/ yellow buses. So include that 14/16 euros in your tour amount and increase the rates charged accordingly. I am sure your guests will pay willingly. We would have loved a city tour with an experienced guide. Overall a magnificent experience and we are still raving about this visit to our friends and family, back in India.

One awesome trip leader

Before I arrived on this tour I thought my highlights would be Barcelona and San Sebastian but honestly, I enjoyed every moment of the holiday! The food and drink in this region is excellent and relatively cheap compared to the UK. You don't spend much time on the tour at the start in Barcelona or at the end in Madrid so I would recommend booking at least an extra night pre/post tour to be able to both great cities. Pamplona has a nice historical old town with some nice walks. San Sebastian is just the place to go to for foodies but is also a nice place in its own right! Logrono is the capital of the La Rioja region so you know you'll get to taste some good wine. I will definitely be coming back to this region! For the tour overall, I felt that we didn't really need 2 nights in Logrono and could have done with either an extra night in San Sebastian to visit Bilbao or a night in Bilbao itself. And that's taking into account the included evening tour of Logrono and the winery tour activities. Beware the 4hr + coach journey from Logrono to Madrid. Our tour leader, Maria Christina did a great job considering that she had to take over at short notice. She organised all our public transport and organised the optional meals, selecting some very decent restaurants. I definitely think she made the trip more enjoyable! I had great fun on this trip and hopefully have made some good friends for life!

Overall, I think it was a good way to see most of the country in the shortest time possible. Some things could’ve been better but it was expected. The guides are fantastic and the vibe was nice, especially meeting other people from different countries. I recommend this tour for anyone who’s a bit “laisser faire” and be surprised day to day by what the trip has to offer. Finally, the accommodation was a bit random: some hotels were nice, others not so much. I hope VPT takes care of that and not to contract cheap hotels that skimp on water and decent beds (mine was wobbly).

Are there any islands near Barcelona?

But if you are more of an explorer that want to get off the beaten path, rent a car and drive no more than 3 hours away from Barcelona so you can be back to the city in the evening, there's also so small islands that are worth checking out for their scenic landscapes and unique nature. Are you ready to discover them?

Balearic Islands (Islas Baleares / Illes Balears)

The Island of Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, and it takes under 1.5 hours to cross it from end to end. Here is the capital of the archipelago, Palma de Mallorca, and it features 2 airports and 1 international port. This island offers the largest variety of tourist attractions and things to do, which makes it a suitable destination for everyone. Palma de Mallorca has a nice shopping district, a quaint medieval quarter with an impressive Cathedral, a Joan Miro Museum. Foodies will love to stroll around the Sant Joan market. Youngsters will have a blast with the nightlife. Kids will have fun taking the Soller train and visiting the Coves del Drac and other stalactite caves. Nature lovers need to visit the natural parks of S’Albufera and the Península de Llevant. And music lovers can’t miss Valldemossa, where Chopin spent a couple of months while in Spain.

Menorca is the second largest island in the Balearic archipelago. It takes around 45 minutes to go from Maho, the capital of the island, to Ciutadella, the second largest town, located in the opposite end. There is an airport and one cruise port. Menorca is a rather quiet island, best for families that will enjoy exploring its prehistorical rock constructions, visiting the local zoo, taking easy hikes along the Cami Reial trail, watching the sunset from the light towers... Because of its small size, it's easy to explore by car.

Ibiza (Eivissa)

Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balears, and it also has an airport and a cruise port. It's easy to get there either flying or taking the ferry from Barcelona to ibiza . And once there, it's just over half an hour to get from Eivissa city to most villages and the best beaches on the island. Ibiza is famous to have the best nightlife in Spain, and because in the 1960's it attracted an important hippie community that still runs a colorful market. But Ibiza is much more than that. There's a couple of stalactite caves, it has picturesque villages such as Santa Eulalia, it has a salt lake natural park... You can pamper yourself in some exclusive spa, or you can sunbathe every day in a different beach club.

Formentera is the fourth largest island. Because of its crookedly elongated shape, it takes you 30 minutes to drive from one end of the island to the other, but in general the rides are much shorter. The only way to get to Formentera is by sea, as it has no airport: the only existing ferries depart from Ibiza. Formentera is perfect for people seeking a peaceful vacation on the beach. The must-see list is quite short if you don't count the beaches: a lighthouse, an old wind mill, a hippie market and not much more. But it's so pretty!

The smallest of the Balearic Islands actually belongs to the city of Palma de Mallorca, it has only some 20 inhabitants and is classed as a Natural Park of its own. It's best done as a day trip from Mallorca: the boats there depart from Colonia Sant Jordi. Once in the island you can visit a castle, a local museum with a botanical garden and a cave under a cliff that can only be reached by boat.

Other islands in Barcelona

Illes medes.

The Illes Medes are probably the most famous islands of the Catalan Coast. It's a small archipelago consisting in two larger islands (the Meda Gran and the Meda petita - big and small Medas), 5 islets and a several boulders that emerge from the sea. They are located off the Emporda town of L'Estartit, and they haven't been inhabited since 1932, only a few years before the Civil War of Spain. They are a protected natural park due to their rich underwater environment, and the access is very restricted. The only way to visit them is on one of the boat and diving tours that depart from the nearby towns of L'Estartit, Roses and L'Escala (Costa Brava - around 2 hours drive from Barcelona, reachable by car or public bus). Do not try to get to the Medes Islands by your own means, as you could get in trouble with the local authorities.

Illes Formigues

Relatively near from the Illes Medes, the Illes Formigues are located off the coast of Palamos (Costa Brava - around 1.5 drive from Barcelona, reachable by car or public bus), In Catalan, "formiga" means "ant", which gives you an idea of how small these islands are, just largish islets but large enough to have a lighthouse in the largest of them - the Formiga Gran ("large ant"). However, on bad storms the islands often disappear under the waves. These islands are famous for a gory battle that took place there in 1298 against the French. The only way to access them is by boat, either a private one or an organized tour.

Illa de Buda

The Illa de Buda is the triangular island of the delta of the Ebro river. Around 5km (some 3 miles) long, Half of it is privately own (two elderly couples still live there), while the other half belongs to the Generalitat de Catalunya government. Inside the island there's two lagoons that constitute the habitat of many interesting birds including flamingos (which can only be seen in a handful of places in Spain!). The island can only be visit with a special authorization, or groups of up to 15 people can book a stay there (minimum 2 nights). Otherwise it is best seen from the boats that organize sailing trips around the Delta or from the viewpoints of Migjorn and Zigurat.

Illa de maians.

Did you know that before the 1400's there was a sand islet right off the city of Barcelona? It was called the Island of Maians and it was only about 100 yards away from the coastline. But in 1477 the construction of the first pier of the Barcelona port absorbed it. The sea currents continued to deposit sand and sediments, and eventually the creation of the Barceloneta district configured the final geography of the city coast. The island would have been located near the current location of the Estacio de França railways station.

ITINERARIO SUGERIDO

Día 1º ➠ españa - keflavik – reykjavik (50 km).

Presentación en el aeropuerto y embarque en el vuelo regular con destino Keflavik. Llegada y traslado a Reykjavik, la capital islandesa. Alojamiento en el hotel.

Día 2º ➠ Reykjavik - Valle de las Sagas - Borgarnes (205 km)

Pueden aprovechar la mañana para conocer la pequeña y cosmopolita capital nórdica, recorriendo sus edificios y zonas más interesantes: la catedral de Hallgrimskirkja, el lago, el Ayuntamiento, el Parlamento, la calle comercial Laugavegur o el centro de eventos Harpa. Tras la visita pueden retirar el coche de alquiler en las oficinas de la compañía y partir hacia la región de Borgarfjörður , conocida como el Valle de las Sagas, cuna de mitos y tradiciones. Tras visitar la singular cascada de Hraunfossar y la torrentera Barnafoss, la “cascada de los niños”, se alojarán en el área de Borgarnes.

Día 3º ➠ Borgarnes - Península de Snæfellsnes - Borgarnes (280 km aprox)

Nos sugieren dedicar la jornada a visitar la interesante Península de Snæfellsnes , presidida por el Snaefellsjökull , el grandioso glaciar. Entre sus múltiples atractivos destacan la pequeña cascada de Selvallafoss , la montaña y cascada de Kirkjufell , junto al pueblo marinero de Grundarfjördur, los acantilados entre Hellnar y Arnarstapi y la iglesia negra de Budir. Alojamiento en Borgarnes .

Día 4º ➠ Borgarnes - Círculo de Oro - Hella (250 km aprox)

Partimos hacia el sur para descubrir los hitos del famoso “Círculo de Oro”:  el Parque Nacional de Thingvellir , sede original del Parlamento Islandés desde el siglo X y donde puede observarse los efectos de los movimientos de las placas tectónicas de Noramérica y Eurasia; la poderosa doble cascada de Gullfoss y la zona geotérmica de Geysir, con pequeños manantiales de agua hirviente y la columna de agua y vapor expulsada por el geiser Strokkur. Hoy descansamos en Hella.

Día 5º ➠ Hella - Ruta de las cascadas - Vik - Kirkjubæjarklaustur (195 km)

Acompañados por suaves llanuras llegamos a la elegante cascada cola de caballo Seljalandfoss , que cae con una altura de 60 metros y puede ser rodeada. Unos kilómetros más adelante efectuamos una nueva parada en Skogafoss, una compacta cortina de agua entre un verde farallón. Llegamos a la pequeña y pintoresca localidad de Vik, donde visitamos una de las playas más conocidas del país, Reynisfjara , con sus cuevas, columnas y arenas negras. Continuamos la ruta hasta Kirkjubæjarklaustur , donde nos alojamos.

Día 6º ➠ Kirkjubæjarklaustur - Costa Sur - Laguna de Jokulsarlón - Vik (290 km)

Esta atractiva jornada discurrirá por la escénica costa sur islandesa. Nos dirigimos al este atravesando la gran superficie de arena Skeidarársandur , escenario de una de las últimas erupciones volcánicas y uno de los mayores desiertos europeos. Accedemos al territorio del Parque Nacional Skaftafell, creado en 1.967 para proteger la flora, fauna y paisajes geológicos de la región central de la costa sur. Y unos kilómetros más adelante nos aguarda nuestro destino, Jökulsárlón , una bella laguna de aguas azules y tranquilas, salpicadas de icebergs que se desgajan del cercano glaciar. Desemboca en el océano Atlántico, dejando a su paso pedazos de hielo en una playa de arena negra conocida como Diamond beach . Regresamos por la ruta hasta Vik, donde nos alojamos.

Día 7º ➠ Vik - Península de Reykjanes - Keflavik (255 km)

Salida en dirección oeste para descubrir la península de Reykjanes , territorio reconocido por sus manifestaciones volcánicas, montañas, acantilados poblados de aves, faros y pequeños pueblos de pescadores. Podemos detenernos en Krýsuvík , campo geotermal salpicado de manantiales, columnas de vapor y pozas burbujeantes, y visitar Grindavik, una pequeña villa marinera. En la tarde y como despedida perfecta del viaje, recomendamos un delicioso baño termal en las aguas de la famosa Laguna Azul. Alojamiento en el área.

Día 8º ➠ Keflavik - España

Devolvemos el coche de alquiler y embarcamos en el vuelo de regreso a España.
