Justin Bieber announces 2016 ‘Purpose’ world tour

With his days of egg-pelting his neighbors, driving too fat, pet-monkey abandonment and urinating in public apparently behind him, Justin Bieber is ready to launch his first major North American tour since 2013.

The Canadian teen-pop vocal star will kick off his 2016 “Purpose” tour March 9 in Seattle. The tour, which concludes July 18 in New York City, will include six California concerts, including a March 29 date at San Diego’s Valley View Casino Center (formerly the San Diego Sports Arena). Bieber’s last area appearance was in 2013 at the same venue and was reviewed by the San Diego Union-Tribune, which praised his improved drumming skills.

All of the tour dates appear below, along with the ticket prices and on-sale date for his San Diego show and other stops on the tour.

Bieber announced his 2016 concert trek during the Wednesday morning telecast of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Ellen.” The tour is timed to promote his new album, “Purpose,” which will be released Friday.

However, in an unusual promotion, from Thursday through Nov. 19, Lyft users will be able to buy the album for $5 by “sliding into Bieber mode.” But first, they have to take a $5 ride with Lyft (one of Uber’s biggest competitors). Upon the completion of the ride, they’ll get a link for a “Purpose” download and a $5 credit for their next ride.

Considering that Lyft requires passengers to be at least 18 to ride in a a Lyft vehicle on their own, and given that many Bieber fans have yet to complete high school, it remains to be seen how successful this promotion will be in boosting sales of his new album.

It also remains to be seen if Bieber will be less temperamental than at his Oct. 29 show in Oslo, Norway, where he abruptly ended his performance after one song, after concertgoers apparently got in his way when he tried to wipe up a liquid on the stage. Bieber later wrote on Instagram, that he “chose to end the show as the people in the front row would not listen.”

Those people also grabbed a towel Bieber was using to mop up an unidentified liquid on the stage, a move that raised his ire.

“Hey, wait! What are you doing? Yo, yo, yo! What are you doing? Come on! I said stop it. Yo, what are you doing? Guys! Yo, listen to me! Are you listening? OK! I’m trying to wipe the floor. Give me a second, yo,” Bieber told the Oslo audience. “Guys, never mind. I’m done. I’m not doing the show. I’m not doing the show.”

Tickets for Bieber’s hopefully liquid-free stage March 29 San Diego concert are priced at $50.59 to $116 each, plus service charges. Tickets go on sale Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. online at the Vallew View Casino Center box office, online at axs.com , by phone at (855) 411-4849. A pre-sale for American Express card members begins at noon Monday and runs through 10 p.m. Nov. 19.

A Weary Justin Bieber Brings His World Apology Tour to Brooklyn

justin bieber 2016 tour

By Jon Caramanica

  • May 5, 2016

“You guys ever feel like sleeping all day?”

There was Justin Bieber, laying flat at center stage at Barclays Center on Wednesday night, eyes fixed on the ceiling.

“That’s me all the time,” he continued. “This morning, I hit my snooze button seven times, like, ‘ Don’t wake me up !’”

Ordinarily, with teen-pop heartthrobs, the show with thousands of screaming fans is the dream you don’t want to be rousted from. But Mr. Bieber is — and has long been — a particularly ornery pop star, in both public and stage life. And so, as his faithful, the Beliebers, cheered him on, he told them how much he missed the comfort of his bed, and they screamed even louder.

Maybe they didn’t hear him. Maybe no one really hears him. If that’s the case, then the studied indifference that was the norm throughout this sometimes worrisome night, the first of two sold-out shows here, would be expected. Mr. Bieber gave the impression of a boy king who inherited subjects he didn’t ask for, responsibilities he’s not interested in shouldering. (The second show was scheduled for Thursday.)

“Where Are Ü Now” and electronic dance music helped Justin Bieber sing for grown-ups. A story of how music is made today.

Last November, he released “Purpose,” an album-length apology for assorted misbehaviors and abuses of the public trust. It was a vexing strategy: Music, the one thing Mr. Bieber should be given free rein in, was turned into a sort of jail, one that now extends to the arenas of the world on the Purpose Tour.

All of that apologizing must be exhausting, though — at least that’s how it seemed. Take that bit about the snooze button — Mr. Bieber did it twice, because the first time he did it before the wrong song, at the wrong part of the show. He also had to have the stage reset because he forgot to perform “Love Yourself,” one of the most scathingly fun songs from “Purpose.”

Mr. Bieber wore isolation like a heavy shroud throughout this concert: first, in a clear box dangling over the stage in which he pressed up against the walls and scrawled out words like “trust” and “believe”; later, inside a cylindrical cage that also served as a screen displaying explosions, as if obliterating everything inside. At one point on the large screens, in a prerecorded video, four lithe women in metallic veils ran their hands over Mr. Bieber’s body while he looked straight at the camera, unmoved. During the show’s second half, he was dressed like an Eminem fan circa 2000: oversize T-shirt over long-sleeve T-shirt, shaved head, sullen expression.

By this point, you might have wanted to file an incident report to the police: suspected kidnapping in progress, subject forced into high-intensity labor.

Whether a sign of boredom or resentment or both, Mr. Bieber’s 100-mile stare was the steadiest feature of his performance here. Even during bulletproof dance floor hits like “Where Are Ü Now” and “What Do You Mean?,” he was the least feline dancer on stage by leaps and bounds, a joyless presence at the center of constantly erupting energy. When he was inside the cage, performing the mildly defiant “I’ll Show You,” he had boxing gloves draped over one shoulder, then threw them on the ground angrily before declaring, “Don’t forget that I’m human/Don’t forget that I’m real.”

He closed the show with “Sorry,” the sinewy apology that’s become one of his biggest hits, performing under a waterfall while he and his dancers splashed around in a wading pool. As the song finished and the show ended, Mr. Bieber seemed to finally be breathing. He jumped into the arms of one of his male dancers, and then the next, and the next.

Joy on that order had been in short supply for the previous hour and a half, despite a sprinkling of moments built into the show when Mr. Bieber the developmentally arrested child could have a little fun in the midst of all the pro forma pageantry. He seemed happy rapping bits of his old hit “Boyfriend” and leading the crowd in a recitation of “Baby,” one of his first hits, from six years and six lifetimes ago.

At one point, a drum kit emerged, and Mr. Bieber pummeled it for a while, hovering dozens of feet over the crowd. Midshow, he sat on a couch set up at center stage and played acoustic guitar on three songs, easily his best and most joyful singing of the night — though, for most of the show, he was doing something even less than lip syncing, so maybe the comparison isn’t fair.

He seemed calmest, though, during the deeply mawkish “Children,” largely due to the presence of four young dancers, brought out to flank him as he performed. After the song finished, he was solicitous and tender with them, pausing the show for a few seconds to take a deep group bow and thanking them individually for their great work, like a gentle older brother.

Up next was “Life Is Worth Living,” essentially a Christian pop song about overcoming the burdens of being misunderstood. But before he began, Mr. Bieber led those young kids offstage, away from the spotlight, in what felt like an act of protection — there was hope for them still.

Justin Bieber Splashes, Strums on Purpose Tour Kickoff

By Andrew Matson

Andrew Matson

“This guy offered me a banana in the front row,” said Justin Bieber in Seattle on the opening night of his massive Purpose tour. “I don’t know what he’s trying to insinuate. But I’m good on potassium right now.”

Justin Bieber was ostensibly charged up on Wednesday night. He put in serious work — getting blasted out of the stage on pressurized platforms, dancing in a hail of sparks and through sheets of water, performing a thoroughly professional 90-minute arena spectacle. But as noisy spectacles go, would you belieb it was somewhat sedate?

The concert was sublime vocally, visually and musically, Bieber and his scaled back band did justice to songs in a cavernous space, often elevating the material. But there was a curious remove that was tough to diagnose. Bieber was a great singer but not always emotionally connecting between songs. His dancing was mistake-free but economical to the point where it seemed he was saving strength. There was zero banter besides the dick joke.

Maybe it’s his new “I’m not a fuck-up anymore” public image and the chilled-out tropical EDM vibe of his new music on “Purpose” — easily his best album and a sure step into his serious artist phase. His rhythm now is loping, rolling, walking. Maybe he was overcoming first-show jitters with deep concentration. Whatever the case, he still did a backflip on a trampoline that was suspended 30 feet in the air.

By the finale, the concert was wet and wild, Bieber and his fleet of dancers splashing out choreography in shallow pool and kicking water onto security guards to the tune of “Sorry,” one of the new jams helping redefine the former teen idol’s career. His fanbase has grown with him and he’s expanded into an older demographic, but the timbre of the crowd noise showed there were still plenty of Beliebers who were young and deeply into it, making a high-pitched racket.

Billie Eilish Would Like to Reintroduce Herself

Team trump is ready to lose the supreme court immunity case. they’re celebrating, taylor swift and jack antonoff have reached their limit, kanye west announces 'yeezy porn' amid reports of adult film company.

Elsewhere in the show it was great to see Bieber dip back into teen-pop era with cuts like “Baby,” an uptempo blast from 2010 which has held up well. Contrasted against the song before it, the island groove of “What Do You Mean,” “Baby” took on new meaning, changing from a song that used to make Bieber seem like a cute toy to one that made him seem like a mature artist with a deep back catalogue. He was similarly expert on folksy renditions of “Love Yourself” and “Home to Mama,” both handled solo on acoustic guitar while seated on a couch. These songs about mothers was a considerate one-two punch for the thousands of moms in the house.

“I think he lip synced a lot,” said one guy walking out of the venue after the concert, extremely incorrectly. Bieber sang for real, played the piano, acoustic guitar and rock drums all gracefully and danced with zero mistakes. Sure, his energy seemed tentative as his dancers did Matrix capoeira all around him, but the Purpose tour is off to a stellar start, showcasing a musician taking control of his art and an audience vibing along for his journey.

Purpose World Tour

The tour started on March 9, 2016 in Seattle and finished on July 2, 2017 in London, UK. After that, the last remaining 14 shows of the tour were cancelled due to depression, anxiety and exhaustion.

Visiting the five continents with over 150 shows, the Purpose World Tour became Justin's longest tour and one of the highest-grossing concerts of the 2010s decade.

The tour was announced on November 11, 2015 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show . That same day, 58 dates in the United States and Canada were revealed on the singer's website. Due to an overwhelming demand, additional shows were added in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, and New York, totaling 64 shows. Some of the shows that Bieber was supposed to perform at was cancelled. After a couple of days, Bieber announced the reason behind him cancelling the rest of the tour on a heartfelt Instagram post.

My life is a movie and everyone’s watching. So let’s get to the good part and past all the nonsense. This life’s not easy. I know what it feels like to fall. It isn’t until we admit defeat that we are able to find strength. I know what it takes to admit vulnerabilities. Are you willing to be challenged, uncomfortable? What are you willing to withstand to create your destiny? I have to ask myself where does my character lie in times of trouble, my weakness, when is my soul at rest? I encountered so many obstacles along this journey. I made mistakes, stumbled but I have faith and determination to rise. My idea of advice is safety, love, respect and purpose.

The cancellation of its last 14 tour dates, including several U.S. stadiums, was described at the time as “unforeseen circumstances” but was in fact a clear mental health crisis. “He was going through something that he wasn’t expressing to anyone,” said Allison Kaye . “We didn’t really understand what we were canceling it for — we just kind of had to.”

When he canceled the last leg of the Purpose tour, the biggest changes he made to get better were going to therapy regularly for the first time and reconnecting with God. “I just changed my priorities so that I didn’t [become] another statistic of young musicians that ended up, like, not making it,” he said. Time to Relive Justin Bieber's Complete(ly) Chaotic Dating History

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Hello and welcome to Justin Bieber 's dating history—a trip down memory lane that's simply not for the faint of pop culture heart. Before you dive in, please make sure to carve out at least an hour of your day because this list is "It's Been 84 Years"-levels of long, not to mention full of alleged chaos. Like, the Jelena era? The random Kourtney Kardashian hookup? Justin dated quite a bit before settling down with Hailey Bieber , and the time has come to begrudgingly relive the memories.

Caitlin Beadles: ~2018

Meet Justin's very first girlfriend, aka the woman who inspired his song "Never Let You Go."

Alas, they weren't meant to be. Justin and Caitlin split because of Justin's intense touring schedule, but they stayed close and Caitlin (plus her brother) even attended his wedding to Hailey Bieber !

Selena Gomez : December 2009 - April 2014 (on/off)

Rumors of Selena and Justin's epic celebrity romance first started when Justin serenaded Sel with “One Less Lonely Girl” during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve . In case you feel like watching that for some unknown reason, here ya go:

These two spent the next few years in what can only be described as an on-again/off-again relationship, which Sel's friends didn't seem to be huge fans of. Like, at one point Taylor Swift was caught on camera making this face at them kissing:

Anyway, Justin and Selena broke up "for good" (this time around) after getting into an alleged fight at Coachella because apparently Selena found photos of Kylie Jenner on Justin’s phone? This is simply speculation by tabloids because Justin and Kylie were never actually confirmed to be a thing, so moving on.

Miranda Kerr: 2012 (rumor)

We're (for the most part) not including rumors on this list—it's already long enough as it is!—but Miranda Kerr gets an exception due to the drama of the speculation. There were claims these two hooked up after the 2012 Victoria Secret Fashion Show, but during that time, Miranda was still with Orlando Bloom. The allegation was so dramatic that Miranda's attorney released a statement calling it "false and defamatory."

More importantly, Orlando reportedly tried to punch Justin years later in 2014 while the Biebs shouted "What's up, bitch?"

Chantel Jeffries: January 2014 - February 2014 (~ish)

Chantel and Justin have a somewhat awk history—by which we mean they were reportedly together when Justin was arrested for a DUI while driving a rented Lamborghini. Anyway. Here's a hilarious pic of them in Vegas!

Yovanna Ventura: March 2014 - April 2014 (~ish)

These two dated in spring 2014 after Justin "noticed" Yovanna on Instagram. "Justin wanted to meet her," a source told E! News at the time. "He sought her out. It hasn't been too hot and heavy, but they have been hanging out a lot. Their relationship is blossoming. I wouldn't be surprised if they have now started dating. He reached out and they started talking in late March. In early April, when he came to Miami they hung out together for that weekend while he was recording in the studio. It was for a couple of days, the weekend. They were getting to know each other."

Cool, here's an incredible photo from this time in our nation's history:

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Justin Bieber (@justinbieber)

Selena Gomez: June 2014 - October 2014

Sel and Justin got back together in June 2014 and posted the below pic, which Justin captioned (with absolutely no chill): “Our love is Unconditional.”

But these two once again broke up in October, and the Daily Mail reported that Justin’s “secret liaisons” with Kendall Jenner were the reason behind the breakup. Which brings us to....

Kendall Jenner: October 2014 (rumor)

At least if the aforementioned "secret liaisons" are to believed. But for what it's worth, Justin did confirm to Billboard that he and Kendall dated at some point, telling the outlet it was "never serious" with her.

Alyssa Arce: August 2014

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alyssa Arce 💀 (@miss_alyssaarce)

Alyssa and Justin were spotted making out on a yacht in Ibiza, but sources told TMZ they were "just having fun." Next!

Ashley Moore: March 2015

These two (+ Justin's enormous hat) were spotted at a Clippers game being all sorts of cuddly back in 2015, which naturally lead to dating rumors:

Nothing really came of it, but for what it's worth they were also spotted on a " flirty hike "in 2017.

Shanina Shaik: May 2015

Justin and Shanina were first linked in 2014 when he posted this Instagram—but as you can see, the caption implies they were simply friends.

They reignited dating rumors in May 2015 though thanks to a casual trip to Vegas together:

View this post on Instagram A post shared by SHANINA SHAIK (@shaninamshaik)

It's unclear how long they were a thing, but it did not seem super serious!

Jayde Pierce: October 2015 (on/off)

View this post on Instagram A post shared by JAYDE PIERCE (@jaydepierce)

Are a reminder: Jayde was with the Biebs when his nudes went viral in Bora Bora. “He doesn’t let his fame get in the way of doing things," she told to The Mirror re: their vibes. “People think Justin must be a brat and arrogant but he’s nothing like that. He’s a really tactile guy, he loves cuddles.”

Kourtney Kardashian: September - December 2015 (~ish)

Justin and Kourtney allegedly (and somewhat randomly) hooked up for several months after her split from Scott Disick, and a source told Us Weekly that Justin "bragged" about it.

Hailey Bieber: December 2015 - early 2016

While rumors about Hailey and Justin first started in 2014 after they were seen on a romantic dinner at Mr. Chow in New York, they went official in December 2015 during a cute vacation. (Justin still has the pics up on his IG!)

Anyway, they broke up because apparently Justin was jealous of Drake? As a source put it to People , “Bieber wasn’t happy about [her friendship with Drake] and so they haven’t really been in touch in a bit."

Nicola Peltz: June 2016

According to Us Weekly , these two briefly dated and a source even said "all his friends love her."

Chantel Jeffries (again): July 2016

Justin and Chantel got together again in July 2016, when a source told E! News, "Bieber likes Chantel. He thinks she is a great girl. Chantel would really date Bieber exclusively if he was ready. They have been good friends for a while."

Sofia Richie: early August 2016

Sofia and Justin getting together was a whole thing , mostly because of Jelena fans spiraling and Sel, um, leaving this comment on their picture:

Sofia later told Billboard that her relationship with Justin was “special” and he was “very easy to talk to and that’s hard to find with people in Los Angeles.”

Bronte Blampied: late August 2016

Bronte was rumored to be dating Justin when she joined him on a Hawaiian vacation in fall 2016, and they were also seen out and about in London. Here they are at the airport if you demand evidence:

Paola Paulin: early October 2017

Justin and Paola dated super briefly right before he got back together with Selena, and a source told Us Weekly that “They’re totally smitten with each other.”

Selena Gomez: late October 2017 - March 2018

Justin and Selena reunited right after Selena’s breakup with The Weeknd , and before long they were taking public bike rides , going on cute walks, and enjoying in kissing sessions at hockey games.

But they broke up for good in March 2018, and neither of them have looked back since.

Baskin Champion: March 2018

Justin rebounded from Sel with Baskin, though honestly they were only spotted on *one* date.

Hailey Bieber: 2018 - Now!

Justin and Hailey got back together in summer 2018, when a source told E! News that they “love to party and they love their church organization.” Their relationship was a true whirlwind, and before long they were engaged/married. These days, they're pretty much best described as adorable.

Fans Are Obsessed With Justin Bieber And Jaden Smith's Coachella Reunion

After running into each other at Coachella, music stars and longtime friends Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith shared a warm embrace that was dripping in nostalgia.

In a video by @daydayred_, 25-year-old Smith holds 30-year-old Bieber from behind. Initially, he grabs him by the waist and then puts his arm around the “Company” singer. For the finale, Bieber gets closer and kisses Smith on the cheek.

In 2010, Smith and Bieber collaborated on the song “Never Say Never,” the theme song for Smith’s rendition of The Karate Kid , which he stars in alongside Taraji P. Henson and Jackie Chan.

The song also served as the title track to Bieber’s documentary concert film of the same name.

Over the years, the two have remained closed and have publicly appeared together on several occasions. In 2016, Smith performed with Bieber on his  Purpose  tour at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In 2020, Bieber became the youngest star to secure seven No. 1 albums, surpassing Elvis Presley with the release of his album  Changes .

Joe Biden Again Reads Teleprompter Instruction During Speech, 'Pause'

Justin bieber makes rare onstage appearance with coachella cameo, justin bieber returns to stage with coachella surprise.

Justin Bieber 's giving his fans what they want -- if just for a brief moment ... as he got back on a stage to perform live, joining Tems for her Coachella set.

JB hit the stage with WizKid Sunday night at the California music festival, performing their hit song, "Essence" for the excited crowd. Check it out ... the audience goes totally nuts as Justin appears onstage in a black sweatshirt, cargo pants and a baseball hat.

Justin's cameo was a welcome surprise ... as the singer has been keeping a low profile following his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome diagnosis .

Remember, Justin was diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder in June 2022, leading to the cancelation of his "Justice" tour .

Still, Justin has stepped out a bit more in recent months ... with the singer even performing a surprise 6-song set at the NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto back in February.

Many thought Justin's appearance at the hockey event meant he'd join Usher for the Super Bowl Halftime show , but he ultimately turned down the invitation.

As Lil Jon previously told TMZ ... the SB Halftime show was just too much for Justin to commit to doing. Justin did cheer on Usher from the stands, however, attending the Super Bowl with his wife, Hailey Bieber .

Nonetheless, Justin has a long history of making surprise cameos at Coachella. Not only did Justin stop by Daniel Caesar 's Coachella set in 2022 to perform "Peaches," but he also joined Ariana Grande in 2019 for her Coachella set.

Justin had also been spotted enjoying the festival earlier in the weekend, hugging it out Saturday with his longtime pal Jaden Smith .

Justin wasn't the only A-list surprise during Coachella weekend one ... as Will Smith joined J Balvin onstage, Olivia Rodrigo stopped by Gwen Stefani 's set, Billie Eilish hit the stage with Lana Del Rey and Kesha was invited by Reneé Rapp to perform a song.

Sounds like one for the books!!!

Justin Bieber Makes Surprise Appearance with Tems and Wizkid During 'Essence' at Coachella 2024

Bieber and Wizkid joined Tems on Sunday, April 14 in the desert for a rendition of the 2021 remix to the track

Justin Bieber was just one of the surprises Coachella 2024 had in store for fans this weekend.

On Sunday, April 14, the "Never Say Never" artist, 30, made an unexpected appearance during Tems' set at the California music festival alongside Wizkid.

While Tems was in the midst of performing the first verse of "Essence," she grinned as Wizkid appeared onstage, per fan-recorded footage of the set . As the duo alternated verses, Bieber shocked the audience by emerging from the side of the stage and serenading the "Higher" musician, 28. At the end of her set, Tems shared her gratitude for having her special guests and told the crowd, “This is crazy.”

The Grammy-nominated singer had been teasing the excitement of her set ahead of time with a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) in the hours leading up to her performance.

"Coachella! I’m too exciteddd I have a surprise tonight 👀," she wrote on the platform.

"Essence" was originally released in 2020 by Wizkid featuring Tems. The following year, a remix of the track was released featuring Bieber. It became the first Nigerian song to chart the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 .

Tems' Coachella set featured nine songs, including a new one called “Love Me JeJe."

Other tracks featured were “Avoid Things,” “Replay,” “Crazy Tings," "Higher" and “Damages." She ended the concert with “Me & U” and “Free Mind.”

Bieber has remained largely under the radar since June 2022, when he announced his diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome , which resulted in one half of his face experiencing paralysis. However, he appeared to be in good health on Sunday as he took the stage at Coachella.

At the time, the "Favorite Girl" performer said his condition was "pretty serious."

"I wish this wasn't the case, but obviously, my body is telling me I got to slow down, and I hope you guys understand, and I'll be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so that I can do what I was born to do," shared Bieber.

He also added that he was taking time to work on his health and was working on "facial exercises to get my face back to normal."

"It will go back to normal. It's just time," Bieber said. "We don't know how long it will be, but it will be OK."

For one of the biggest performances of her career, Tems called on one of the biggest pop stars in the business: Justin Bieber .

The Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer delivered a set at Coachella 2024 on Sunday night (April 14), and brought out the big guns in Bieber and Wizkid, who both stepped onto the stage for a performance of their hit “Essence.”

Coachella! I’m too exciteddd I have a surprise tonight 👀❤️‍🔥 — TEMS (@temsbaby) April 14, 2024

Originally released in 2020 and recorded with Bieber and fellow Afrobeats star Wizkid, “Essence” was a true slow-burner, impacting Billboard ’s charts nine months after its release. Wizkid & co. would reign over Billboard ’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay in September 2021 with “Essence,” making history along the way. “Essence” also cracked the Billboard Hot 100 and would enter the top 10 (peaking at No. 9) — becoming the first Afrobeats song to do so.

Bieber’s performance will surely send Beliebers into a frenzy, and renew hope for more live dates in the wake of his health problems, which contributed to the cancellation of his 2022 Justice World Tour.

That excitement lifted a gear earlier in the year, when Bieber performed a surprise short set of classics and recent hits at Drake’s 2,500-capacity downtown club History and, earlier, hinted at new music to come .

Tems was Billboard ‘s 2024 Women in Music Breakthrough recipient , telling reporters ahead of the event: “I really want to use this opportunity to say to all the women in the room, in the world, that no matter what you’re going through, you should know you’re not alone. So even when you’re sad, even when you’re angry, there’s someone that’s angry, too. So uplift everybody around you because they need that like you and somebody’s there for you,” she concluded her speech. “It’s the women that got the women, trust me.”

She previously told Billboard , “Everybody just called me Temi. Nobody really called me by my full name. It wasn’t something that was on my mind. It’s only now, as an adult, that I started realizing that it meant ‘the crown is mine.’ I think that’s really powerful. It feels manifested, based on how my life has gone.“
