SkyBridge story

Measuring at 125m in length, the structure ranks among the world’s longest curve suspension bridge and constructing it was not an easy feat as the solutions had to factor the following critical elements; structural balancing from a single point (top of the pylon), optimal weight management and load distribution, pre-fabrication of bridge and on site installation.

The entire bridge, in all its elements had to be lifted to the top of the mountain by helicopter and was later assembled to its current position. Price for SkyBridge is RM6.00 for adult and RM4.00 for children. Currently, ticket can be purchased at SkyBridge Ticketing Counter at Top Station.

Langkawi Sky Bridge Facts

Here are some fun facts about this mighty attraction in Langkawi :

Langkawi Sky Bridge is 660m above sea level.

Cable Car Angle :

Because the slope between the base and middle station is 42°, the Langkawi SkyCab is considered the “steepest ride in the world”.

Steep Cable Car Angle At Langkawi Sky Bridge

The curved bridge is 125m long and balanced from the top point of a single pylon. So it can feel shaky when at some parts with many visitors on it.

There are some small glass panels along the length of the bridge for those daring enough to take a peek.

Construction :

It cost RM1.2 million to build the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The bridge was pre-fabricated before being put into place by a helicopter. Construction was completed in 2005.

The Whole Langkawi Sky Bridge From Afar

Cable cars are about 20 years old at this point but they still looked new to us with the exception of some window chips and stains.

Weight Limit :

Officially, the maximum capacity of the bridge is 250 visitors at any one time.

But we did not see any sign or personnel controlling the maximum weight or number of visitors allowed on the bridge.

How To Reach Langkawi Sky Bridge

Langkawi Sky Bridge is 30 minutes’ drive from Pantai Cenang. Or 40 minutes’ drive away from Kuah town.

Driving a rental car gives you the most flexibility on your arrival and departure times. The undulating roads are wide, and in between greenery, you can see the ocean on one side.

There is no public transportation (e.g., buses) that directly takes visitors to Langkawi Sky Bridge.

Best Time To Go To Langkawi Sky Bridge

Always check the weather before going to Langkawi Sky Bridge.

The bridge and Langkawi Skybridge cable car will close if there are strong winds and other unfavourable weather conditions.

At Langkawi Sky Bridge

Sunny days with clear skies are the best time to go to Langkawi Sky Bridge because you’ll be able to see more (e.g., far-off islets) from the top.

To escape crowds though, we highly recommend reaching Panorama Langkawi before the opening time of 9:30am. More so on public holidays and weekends.

Before The Queues For Langkawi Sky Cab Forms

This will give you ample time to pick a nice parking spot, get your bearings, collect your group, use the toilets (the ones in the 3D Art Museum are free), and get in line for the queue.

Note that the queue for the Langkawi Sky Cab (cable car up to Langkawi Sky Bridge) actually starts at around 10am despite what the staff say about the queues starting at 11am.

Langkawi SkyBridge Ticket Price

Tickets for Langkawi Sky Bridge are not sold at the base of the mountain as you would expect:

The main ticket counter within the park only sells tickets for Langkawi Sky Cab up to the middle and top station.

Note: Fees for children apply to the age range of 3-12 years old; All tickets include the following attractions: Sky Dome, SkyRex, and 3D Art Langkawi

PS: Don’t get off the middle station if you can help it. You will get stuck in a queue when people realize that this is not the top yet.

Ride the Langkawi Sky Cab up to the upper station. Alight and go for the ticket counter at the opposite end of the platform.

This is where you get the tickets for the Langkawi Sky Bridge. And here, you can choose whether to go via the nature trail. Or use the Sky Glide.

The Sky Bridge is open every day (with the exception of the weather, maintenance, etc) from 9:30am to 7pm.

However, Langkawi Sky Cab officially closes at 6pm.

Car Park For Langkawi Sky Cab

If you get there early, just go for the standard parking to save on costs. There are separate barriers for each of the 3 parking sections.

If you happen to lose your ticket, you’ll have to pay a fine of RM50.

Activities At The Langkawi Sky Bridge

While the Langkawi Sky Bridge is the highlight of Panorama Langkawi, there are several attractions within the park.

Moreover, there are 2 attractions to pass time if you’re waiting for the Langkawi Sky Bridge queue to start. These (Sky Dome Langkawi, SkyRex and 3D Art Langkawi) are complimentary with the Langkawi Sky Cab tickets .

1. Sky Dome Langkawi

This is free to visit with purchase of the Sky Cab tickets but there’s nothing to shout about here.

It’s a short 10-minute 2D show of the solar system and a roller coaster. You can definitely skip this attraction if you’re short of time (or energy).

2. SkyGlide

We feel that it’s only worth taking the SkyGlide if you’re physically unable to take the nature trail.

Langkawi Sky Glide

The SkyGlide ride is slow. And since there is only one vehicle (it fits 8 to 10 passengers), you’ll have to wait for other passengers before your turn.

Additionally, the nature trail has shade from trees with a cool breeze blowing through. But there are many steps and these are not of equal height.

This is the official name for the Langkawi SkyBridge cable car. If you count the ground station, there are 3 stations in total where passengers can alight.

The Top Station Of Langkawi Sky Cab

Views include an aerial view of the petting zoo (Machinchang Petland Langkawi), jungle, 2 waterfalls , and the Machinchang mountain as you approach it.

Telaga Tujuh Waterfall Seen During The Langkawi Sky Cab Ride

4. Langkawi SkyBistro

SkyBistro is the only eatery up at Langkawi SkyBridge. It is usually full during lunch time (12pm to 1pm) so if you would like to dine here, go before the crowd gets hungry.

Counter At Langkawi Sky Bistro

Watch out for monkeys that keep close to the tables for any opportunity to snatch food. As this is an open-air dining situation.

5. 3D Art Langkawi

To be fair, 3D Art Langkawi has some very well-made paintings.

3D Art Langkawi

The signs on the floor are helpful in guiding visitors on how best to pose and capture a shot. However, some displays have visible distractions (e.g., exit signs and door seams) that ruin the illusion.

One Of The Safari Themed Illusions Inside 3D Art Langkawi

It’s a spacious air-conditioned gallery and visitors will walk through different halls with themes like the ocean, safari, fantasy, etc. There’s even a glow-in-the-dark room.

Glow In The Dark Display Inside 3D Art Langkawi

Every hour, there is a 3D show upstairs too.

Note: You will need to remove and leave your shoes at the counter before entering the gallery. There are snack shops and a collection point for your shoes at the end of the gallery.

Since a visit to the 3D Art Langkawi comes in a bundle together with the SkyCab tickets, we think it’s worth a look while waiting for the SkyCab queue to start.

6. Selfie Museum

Because it costs RM22 to enter the Selfie Museum, you should skip this place entirely if selfies are not your thing.

Selfie Museum At Langkawi

Inside are colorful neon light setups as well as some giant dessert displays.

But even if you like selfies, we feel that it’s overpriced .

7. Machinchang Petland Langkawi

Machinchang Petland Langkawi opens at 9am (30 minutes earlier than the SkyCab).

We’re not a fan of how they house the animals though. There’s hardly any shade for them (let alone humans).

Gondolas Over Machinchang Petland Langkawi

Smaller animals like hedgehogs and ferrets are put in very small cages. Poor living conditions for the animals sadly are not enough to deter visitors though.

It’s the variety of animals that attracts urban folk to check it out. They have emu, ostriches, donkeys, miniature ponies, goats, etc.

8. Oriental Village

There’s no way to skip going though Oriental Village if you want to ride the SkyCab.

Entrance To Oriental Village As Seen From The Car Park

The walk will take you through colorful buildings of European influence. There is a lake full of lilies with a fountain in it.

European Like Street At Oriental Village, Langkawi

If you come early at 9am, many of the shops are not yet open. Shops include a convenience shop and souvenir shops.

We didn’t feel like visiting any of the shops or stopping at any of the buildings other than to use the toilets (which you have to pay 50 cents for).

Lake At Oriental Village, Langkawi

Restaurants At Langkawi Sky Bridge

German food corner.

This open-air food court at Oriental Village is surprising because the friendly owners are actually German!

Grilled meats, cakes, fish and chips, schnitzel, bee sting, beef pasta, shrimp salad, and garlic and prawn pasta are all highly recommended.

The food is fairly simple, but prices are fair given the large portions . However, it can take 20 minutes or so before you get your food.

Note: Since there are not many options for eateries at Langkawi, plan your route well. One option is The Roof Restaurant which is on the way back to Kuah town.

Langkawi Sky Bridge Review

Our personal opinion is that the Langkawi Sky Bridge is worth visiting if:

  • You’re not scared of heights
  • You haven’t been there before
  • The skies are clear
  • You can be there early

Langkawi Sky Cab Review

The fact that there’s no jingle playing inside the cabin of the cable cars means a lack of distraction during the ride. You can’t fail to notice how high you are if you keep your eyes open.

View From Middle Station Of Langkawi Sky Cab

We find that the change of angles during the ride is the scariest moment of the experience. This lasts for only a few seconds.

View From One Of The Decks At Top Station, Langkawi Sky Bridge

The rest of the park (e.g., Oriental Village, Sky Dome, Selfie Museum, etc) are not that interesting.

We will say that we did enjoy the 3D Art Langkawi more than we thought we would though.

And that is everything important that you should know about visiting the Langkawi Sky Bridge. Don’t forget to check the weather as the views are not worth it on a cloudy day.

Going early has a lot of perks too. Such as more parking availability and not having to stand in queue for a long time.

langkawi sky bridge tours

The Langkawi cable car starts its journey at the base station located on the foothill of Mount Machincang . The aptly named SkyCab will slowly lift you 700 meters above sea level as you enjoy a panoramic view of the mountain with dense green forest and waterfalls on one side, and the blue waters of Andaman Sea on the other.

A small flight of stairs from the top station brings you to the viewing platforms where a 360-degree view of the world awaits. From here you can see peaks of the mountain range straining to be higher and higher. On a clear day the Andaman Sea shimmers blue and reveals islands as far as the eye can see. Parts of Indonesia and Thailand can also be seen from the bridge.

The adventure of Mount Machincang doesn’t end here. The SkyBridge of Langkawi is accessible from the top station. Take the SkyGlide to reach the SkyBridge in comfort or stretch your legs and walk 15 minutes through the short but steep mountain pass. This curved engineering marvel gives an unobstructed view of the horizon as the wind rushes passed your hair. Hanging one hundred meters above a dense green valley alongside the Andaman Sea, the SkyBridge lets you see the world through a bird’s eye. Touted as the longest curved suspension bridge in the world, this attraction should not be missed.

Langkawi SkyCab cable car and Sky Bridge – A Complete Guide

shows a drone view of the Sky Bridge in Langkawi

Langkawi is full of fun adventure activities, beautiful beaches and endless nature. However, the top attraction is something a little different! Regarded as the number one thing to do in Langkawi according to Tripadvisor and most travel guides, Langkawi SkyCab cable car is a must-see during your visit. Not for the faint hearted, you’ll enjoy not only one, but two cable car rides up Machinchang Mountain. There’s also a cool suspension bridge at the top of the cable car ride, the Langkawi SkyBridge.

Epic views, unique jungle scenery and several viewpoints make it well worth the trip. There are also a number of attractions at the base of the cable car station.

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the Langkawi SkyCab cable car and SkyBridge attractions. We’ll share how to get there, things to see in the nearby area, how much the cable car ride costs and some helpful tips and tricks for your visit.

What is the Langkawi SkyCab cable car?

Langkawi Skybridge Cable Car, also known as the SkyCab is the most popular activity on the island. Even if you’re slightly afraid of heights – it’s one not to be missed! The Langkawi SkyCab was built in 2003, making it a fairly new and modern attraction. The SkyCab provides an aerial link from the Oriental Village, at the base of the cable car, all the way up to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which sits at a staggering 3120ft above sea level. What’s one of the best things about the Langkawi cable car? It’s the steepest cable car in the entire world, at an angle of 42°.

Is the Langkawi SkyCab worth visiting?

As mentioned previously, the Langkawi SkyCab cable car experience is the most popular activity to do in Langkawi. If there’s only one thing you do during your time in Langkawi, it’s this. Afterall, wouldn’t it be cool to tell your family and friends you’ve been on the world’s steepest cable car? The amazing views from the cable car, the viewpoints from the mountain-top and the Langkawi Skybridge all make it worth the trip.

How to get to langkawi skycab.

The Langkawi SkyCab is located to the south west of the island. Here are the best ways to get there, no matter where you’re staying in Langkawi.

  • The easiest, and most convenient way to get to Langkawi cable car is by Grab taxi. Grab is Malaysia’s version of Uber and taxis are fast, reliable and affordable. Simply download the ‘Grab’ app on your phone, create an account and order a ride.
  • Another way to get to the SkyCab is by hiring a car or moped. It’s fairly easy to get around Langkawi by car, as there are fewer cars on the roads compared to the likes of Kuala Lumpur. Cars and moped rentals are convenient ways to explore the island at your leisure. You’ll find plenty of parking spaces at the entrance of Langkawi SkyCab.
  • The final option is by tour bus. Some tourists book the SkyCab as part of an organised tour. This is a good option for those that want everything planned out for them and want to see a few different attractions in addition to the cable car.

Top things to see at the Langkawi cable car attraction

Langkawi SkyCab is not one cable car ride, but two, plus some excellent viewpoints, a bridge and much more. We recommend allocating at least 2 hours for the cable car experience in order to see everything it has to offer. Here’s a breakdown of what’s in store for you.

Cable car ride no. 1

Your cable car journey will begin from the base station, where you’ll enjoy a scenic 15-minute ride up to the first viewing platform. It’s a great time to get your camera out to take some photos and videos of the impressive views. The first cable car ride is the longest and contains the steepest ascent. It’s nerve-wracking yet exhilarating!

shows a view of Langkawi from the cable car

Viewing platform number 1

After the first 15-minute cable car ride, you’ll have the opportunity to stop off at the first viewing platform. Admire the views from up above and experience panoramic views of Langkawi Island. From the viewpoint, you can see Telaga Marina, jungle scenery and the many small islands to the south. There are a few benches, a public toilet and a small shop next to the viewing deck.

Eagle’s Nest SkyWalk

If you’re feeling brave, test your nerve by walking across the free-standing 38-meter glass platform at Langkawi SkyCab’s latest attraction, the Eagle’s Nest SkyWalk. This new attraction features an eagle head that peers out from the mountainside, at 650 metres above sea level. It’s a thrilling viewing deck and one that’s not to be missed!

shows the Eagle's nest skywalk in Langkawi - langkawi cable car guide

Cable car ride no. 2

To reach the top of Gunung Machinchang, you’ll need to hop on a second cable car from the first viewing deck. The ride only takes a few minutes, and you’ll get to enjoy more views of Langkawi. This cable car ride takes you over a valley and you’ll catch your first glimpse of the Langkawi SkyBridge as you cross. It’s a shorter ride but it’s just as fun!

Main viewing deck

After the second cable car ride, you’ll arrive at the largest platform on the mountain. This huge viewing deck sits at one of the highest points of the mountain and it has plenty of viewing spots and relaxation areas. Take a seat and admire the view, or grab a drink and a snack at the sky-high restaurant.

Nature walk / SkyGlide

A pleasant surprise during our visit to the Langkawi SkyCab cable car is the nature walk to reach the Langkawi SkyBridge. On this peaceful and serene walk, you’ll come across various species of plants, fauna, trees and you might even see some of the island’s residents, the cheeky macaques. It’s a 10-minute walk to reach the bridge from the main viewing deck. The hike down is easy. However, it can be a struggle to get back up due to the high heat and many staircases. An alternative to the nature trail is to pay an additional fee and take the slow-moving funicular, which is known as the SkyGlide. It’s a fast and easy way to reach Langkawi SkyBridge.

shows the SkyGlide and nature trail at the top of the mountain

Langkawi SkyBridge

The final stop off point before heading back down the mountain is the SkyBridge. This impressive structure ranks amongst the world’s longest curve suspension bridges. Here, you’ll get to enjoy 360-degree views of Langkawi whilst taking in the breath-taking surroundings. There’s even a glass-bottom section as you walk across the bridge if you’re feeling brave! The entrance ticket for the Langkawi Skybridge can be bought with your SkyCab cable car ticket and is only a small additional cost. It’s well worth the price! The SkyBridge is one of Malaysia’s most famous attractions!

You can opt for the standard cable car, a glass bottom cable car, or the VIP cable car. Note that the glass bottom cable car and the VIP cable car are more expensive. You can view current prices for each car type on the official website here . We chose the standard cable car option and loved every minute of it.

If you’ve booked a glass bottom cable car or a VIP cable car, you’ll have your own exclusive ride to the top! Standard cars are shared with other people, with up to six guests per car. If you’re lucky and there isn’t a queue, you might have it all to yourself.

The first cable car ride to the first viewing platform takes around 15 minutes. The second cable car to reach the SkyBridge is much quicker and only takes a few around 5 minutes.

Tickets start from 90 RM per person. If you want to upgrade to skip the queues, you can book an express lane ticket, which costs slightly more. We recommend booking your tickets on GetYourGuide . Tickets are often cheaper, and they sometimes offer discounts. There’s an add-on option for the Langkawi SkyBridge attraction, which is well worth adding.

Top tip: book a standard ticket (not an express lane ticket) if you’re visiting during the week at non-peak times of the year. If there’s a queue when you arrive, you can always upgrade in person.

Our top tips for visiting Langkawi SkyCab cable car

  • Book your tickets in advance via GetYourGuide during busier times of the year.
  • Avoid visiting during the weekend, especially during peak times of the year. We recommend visiting before 10am if possible.
  • Check opening times before arrival so you’re not waiting around waiting for it to open. You can view current attraction times on the official website here .
  • If you’re visiting during off season/ during the week, an express ticket may not be necessary. You can always upgrade when you arrive if it’s busy.
  • Monitor the weather forecast and try to visit on a clear, sunny day. The SkyCab may close during storms, heavy rain or windy weather.
  • Visit other attractions on the same day at the Langkawi cable car and Sky Bridge. There’s lots to see in the Telaga area. We recommend visiting this attraction first thing in the morning and then exploring the other attractions once you’ve returned to the base station. Continue reading for recommendations on what else you can see in the area.
  • Celebrating a special occasion? Consider booking a VIP cable car experience.

Other attractions in the nearby area

Oriental village.

Located at the base of the cable car ride is the picturesque and highly Instagram-able Oriental Village. It’s full of colourful buildings! Some of the best features at the Oriental Village include the lake, which is full of unique species of fish, wooden bridge walkways and the double decker bus which takes you around the entire village. There are also gift shops if you’re looking to buy a souvenir, cafés, restaurants, bars, and even a 7 Eleven. We recommend visiting the Oriental Village after the SkyCab for a drink and a bite to eat.

3D Art in Paradise Museum

The excitement continues after you’ve arrived safely to ground. The biggest 3D interactive art museum is located right next to the Oriental Village, and the best part – entrance is free for those who have purchased a ticket for the Langkawi SkyCab. Therefore, remember to keep your cable car entry ticket. This impressive 3D Art Museum holds over 100 3D paintings and wall murals across different themes. Explore the 9 unique zones and follow the information cards next to the artwork to ensure you capture that perfect 3D picture! We had low expectations for this place but ended up having a lot of fun!

Telaga Tujuh Waterfall

Along with Temurun Waterfall, Telaga Tujuh Waterfall is one of the best waterfalls to check out when visiting Langkawi. It measures a whopping 91 meters. The waterfall is located deep within the jungle, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a group of mischievous macaques, tropical birds and other animals along the way. There are 2 sections to the waterfall, and you’ll need to cross a jungle trail to reach both areas.

The top of the waterfall has nice views of the valley, rock pools where you can swim and a fun natural water slide. The base of the waterfall is where you can see the waterfall in all its glory. It’s a nice place to relax with a picnic.

You can walk to Telaga Tujuh Waterfall in 10-minutes from the Oriental Village/Langkawi SkyCab area.

Visit Langkawi Sky Bridge

Take the gondola up the mountain and walk cross the elegant Langkawi Sky Bridge for a unique experience at 2,300 feet (700 meters) above sea level. On a misty day, you’ll be walking in the clouds and on a sunny day you can enjoy panoramic views of the Andaman sea.

The gondola, or “SkyCab,” is the start of this adventure. Safely seated in an enclosed cabin, you’ll be zooming up Gunung Mat Cinchang, the second-highest peak on Langkawi, in less than 15 minutes. There are two platforms at the top station, connected by a boardwalk-like bridge. One platform has a cafeteria that sells souvenirs, snacks and drinks.

To avoid lining up and paying extra for the gondola, just take the stairs down to the Sky Bridge. Walking across this 410-feet (125-meter) long, curving pedestrian bridge is not for the faint-hearted, since the bridge is supported by one steel pylon only. However, it doesn’t swing much and the double-steel railings and wire mesh keep all pedestrians safe . It is so strong, in fact, that up to 250 people may cross at any one time.

The bridge is wide enough for two people to pass each other. There are two triangular-shaped platforms that act as rest stops and outlooks along the way. Because the curves have the bridge swing outwards, you get treated to a new perspective every minute.

Don’t forget to enjoy the stunning views around and below you. Take in the turquoise and sky-blue bay, the nearby islands and the emerald peaks and rainforests of Langkawi itself. On a clear day, you can see as far as Tarutao Island in Thailand.

To reach the bridge, join a tour, take a taxi or rent a car or scooter to get there from Kuah, Langkawi’s main town. The Sky Bridge is accessible via the artificially created duty-free Oriental Village near Pantai Kok, just northwest of the airport. There is a ticket office in the Oriental Village. Be aware that a visit to the Sky Bridge isn’t included in your fare for the SkyCab, although the extra tickets are very cheap. Bring a wind jacket or sweater, because on a windy day it’s much colder at the top.
