Mario Golf: Super Rush is the sixth installment in the Mario Golf series , released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch on June 25, 2021. It was first announced during the February 2021 Nintendo Direct. The game introduces multiple modes, such as Speed Golf and Battle Golf, in which golfers must physically run to the ball in-between swings under time pressure, often alongside other players. Additionally, the game has a story mode similar to Mario Golf on the Game Boy Color and Mario Golf: Advance Tour , involving leveling up the player Mii's stats while going through a variety of unique challenges. The game departs from the three-press system present in the previous games of the series, instead having each swing involve two button presses, with the club type and terrain determining the accuracy of the shot.

Opening [ edit ]

The opening cinematic starts with a countdown, as the characters prepare their golf attire and equipment before they enter the Super Golf Stadium. All characters start to swing their golf clubs, with Mario swinging his to strike the golf ball. After taking their first shots, they run towards their golf balls, with Waluigi and Luigi pushing each other around and Mario and Bowser looking at each other.

Daisy uses her Special Dash to leap over Peach. Peach responds with her Special Shot that sends the golf ball flying. Wario and Waluigi spot Mario and Bowser, and Wario uses his Special Dash while Bowser breathes fire, but Mario leaps over both. Mario scores his first point by getting the golf ball into a hole. As the game continues, Mario and Bowser are in fierce competition.

A Chain Chomp appears from one hole and chases Wario, who runs into a pillar. He then spots a Banana item, which upon using it trips up Bowser and Waluigi. Mario uses his Special Shot, but because Waluigi bumped into a Switch block, the ball ricochets and lands on King Bob-omb, who rolls downhill and explodes on Bowser, Wario, and Waluigi. The explosion also rolls Mario's golf ball into a hole to give him the last point to win the game. While Peach and Luigi cheer him on, Mario is confused by the events that happened, but gives a thumbs up pose. Meanwhile, Bowser, Wario, and Waluigi are grumbling from their defeat, when Bowser spews black smoke, leading to the title screen.

Gameplay [ edit ]

It has been requested that this section be rewritten and expanded to include more information. Reason: add information about Battle Golf and Golf Adventure

The core gameplay follows the rules of golf: to hit the ball into the hole in the fewest number of strokes. Both sand traps and water hazards appear as obstacles depending on the course. Any player who hits the ball out of bounds or into a hazard receives a penalty stroke. The hole can be seen from afar by a glowing, blue pillar of light.

Speed Golf [ edit ]

In Speed Golf , players take shots at the same time and must race to their ball after each stroke, continuing this until it is sunk into the hole. Items along the way may help the player. Players also have access to character-specific skills such as dashes and Special Shots, and are seen dropping coins onto the course when being hit or when running into obstacles; losing coins decreases the player's Special Shot gauge, while collecting coins increases it. Both the player's stroke number and total time are recorded as their score, with 30 seconds to the total time added for each stroke taken. While running, players have a stamina gauge near their character that is normally green but turns red when low. The stamina gauge can be replenished by collecting hearts . Using a Special Dash immediately uses up a portion of the stamina gauge.

Battle Golf [ edit ]

In Battle Golf , players compete in a stadium filled with nine holes and a number of obstacles to be the first player to sink three holes. There are two types of courses: Strategic and Technical. The former has simpler terrain with an emphasis on strategy, while the latter has complex terrain with an emphasis on technique. For each course, there is one version where Rush Countdown is on, and one where Rush Countdown is off.

Each of the courses have obstacles and items that will hinder or help the player. The obstacles include Chain Chomps , Thwomps , and Whomps . Chain Chomps charge at any player within their vicinity to damage them; Thwomps smash the spot that they are on at intervals, causing anything under them to be blown away; Whomps act as walls that block the ball. Two items that appear in the courses are Bob-ombs and Bananas . When a player go up to one of those item, they will aim them at the player with the highest placement. The Bob-ombs will cause an explosion to occur within the radius, while the Bananas will be split into eight and can cause the players to slip. Damaged players will, in addition to being momentarily stunned, drop coins and lose some of the Special Shot gauge. The coins can be used to fuel their Special Shot gauge. Both the Whomps and the Bananas only appear in the Technical course. The Mii is not initially playable in this mode, and can only be unlocked for use by completing the story mode.

If Rush Countdown is enabled, a Rush event will occur every minute where a random event could occur. One of the following could happen:

  • Bob-omb Rush : All players will be targeted by Parabombs , where more will appear towards the player the higher their placement.
  • Egg Rush : All player's balls turn into Egg Balls, which causes the ball to wobble when it bounces and curves while putting.
  • Ice Rush : All available holes are each temporarily covered with a patch of ice.
  • Super Star Rush : All players will have the Super Star power up, where it lasts longer the lower the player's placement is.

Target Golf [ edit ]

This mode is added in version 4.0.0. In Target Golf , there are three targets that are lit up, each consisting of four scoring zones with a flag in the middle (there are no holes to sink the golf ball in). In this mode, players take turns to hit from one of the multiple different tees to one of the targets. In order to obtain points, the player must land the golf ball on one of the zones, which will grant points to the player based on how close it is to the flag. From the outermost zone to the innermost zone, the points granted are: 10 points, 20 points, 30 points, and 40 points. After points are obtained from landing the golf ball on that part of the zone, it stops lighting up and is considered knocked out, meaning that landing on the same part of the zone won't grant points to another player. When all of a zone's circles have been knocked out, the last player who caused it gets a Dead-Aim Bonus, which grants an additional 30 points on top of the points granted, although this bonus is not affected by any multiplier. On certain shots, which is during the turn of the player with the least amount of points in multiplayer and the last of every five shots in Solo Challenge, a star target will light up, which has three zones. The amount of points granted from landing the ball within the outermost zone to the innermost zone are: 20 points, 40 points, and 100 points. After the golf ball lands on any part of this star target, the rest of the zones stop lighting up.

The club set determines the types of clubs available. The given options are the same as in Speed Golf, with the difference that the putter is not available as an option. Three different courses are available in target golf: Standard, Forest, and Volcano. These courses are different from any other course in the game, even the ones in Battle Golf. The Standard course has a simple layout with no obstacles and few elevation changes, the Forest course has a woodsy layout featuring trees, a river, and longer distances from tees to targets, and the Volcano course has a tricky layout featuring lava and some elevation changes. In every course, there are four different tee points, offering different vantage points from the targets. Tee changes happen differently between multiplayer and Solo Challenge. In multiplayer, they happen after everybody has taken a shot, while in Solo Challenge, they happen after every five shots are taken.

Whenever all parts of one target are knocked out, it will only be reset after every player took their turn. However, if all the targets stop lighting up before at least one player gets to tee off within that turn, one of the targets will be reset before everybody's turn ends, to give a chance for them to score. In Solo Challenge's Target Golf, the board reset works differently. Instead of the target resetting immediately after all the zones stop lighting up, fully knocked out targets will only reset after every fifth shot.

On certain turns, all players are given a different type of golf ball, which has different types of effects. In multiplayer, they happen at the beginning of the second and fourth turns, while in Solo Challenge, they happen at the beginning of every third of five shots. The following ball types include:

  • Egg Ball : These balls resemble a Yoshi's Egg . It causes the ball to wobble when it bounces. This is the only ball that causes the character to be disappointed when obtained.
  • Smoke Ball : These balls have Bowser Jr. 's emblem on it. When it lands, smoke is released around the surrounding area, which causes the flag within it to disappear from the shot gauge. The effect lasts until the user's next shot. It is not available in Solo Challenge.
  • Ice Ball : These balls are light blue with frost emanating from it, and has an Ice Flower as its icon. After it landed, the surrounding area will be covered in an icy surface, which reduces the friction and increase the bounce of the other balls. The effect lasts until the user's next shot. It is not available in Solo Challenge.
  • Amp Ball : These balls resemble Amps . When it lands, it emits a shock that causes multiple zones within it to be knocked out, although it only grants points on the zone the golf ball landed on. A Dead-Aim Bonus will be rewarded if all the zones within the target are knocked out, even if it's not landed on.
  • Spike Ball : These balls resemble Spike Balls . These balls are resistant to bouncing or rolling, meaning that it's very likely to stick in place.
  • Silver Ball : These golf balls are silver, and when selected, it shows the x2 multiplier. These balls will grant twice the amount of points in the landed zone.
  • Gold Ball : These golf balls are golden, and when selected, it shows the x3 multiplier. These balls will grant thrice the amount of points in the landed zone.

In multiplayer, Target Golf lasts for five turns, where every player will be able to hit a golf ball once per turn, ordered by the player order. At the end of the five turns, the player(s) with the most points win.

Ranked Match [ edit ]

This mode is added in version 2.0.0. In Ranked Match , the player can participate in matches with fixed settings. Once selected, there are four different categories with separate rankings: "Button Controls: Standard Golf", "Button Controls: Speed Golf", "Motion Controls: Standard Golf", and "Motion Controls: Speed Golf". Every match is participated by four players, and if the amount of players did not reach that amount after the timer reaches zero, CPU players at C- rank will fill in the spots. If two or more players start a match, there will be a 10-second timer before the match is initiated. The rank and amount of points for each category is recorded each month, and when the month is over, the records can be viewed within Ranked Match Records.

The golf courses selected for every category is different, and they all change courses to the next one in the course order list after every 30 minutes. For New Donk City and Shelltop Sanctuary, their Pro courses layouts are used in ranked matches. Some settings are shared between every category, namely that 3 holes are played per match, Mii characters are prohibited, and Tee Handicaps are enabled except for Rookie Course, New Donk City, and Shelltop Sanctuary. Tee Handicaps basically indicate the tee that the player start from based on their ranking, where they will start further away the higher their ranking is. In Standard Golf, players get to tee off at the same time as opposed to taking turns, while in Speed Golf, every player starts at the same time regardless of how well they did in the previous hole. If one of the players completed a hole, there will be a 60 second limit for every other player to complete the hole, otherwise it will be an automatic forfeit. One difference in setting between the modes is that "Button Controls: Speed Golf" is the only one that allows Special Shots while the others disallows it, though "Button Controls: Standard Golf" allowed it prior to version 3.0.0. A difference between Standard Golf and Speed Golf in both control methods is that the former's scoring format is Stroke Play (score is based on how well below par the player is), while the latter's scoring format is High Score (score is based on the rank each hole is finished).

After three holes are completed, the player is given points based on how well they did. These points will determine the rank the player falls under, where they will start from zero points every month. The points are assigned based on three categories: Score, Participation Bonus, and Higher-Rank Defeat Bonus. For Score, the amount of points given is different between Standard Golf and Speed Golf. For Standard Golf, the amount of points given is 2 points for a score of +3, with an extra 2 points for every stroke reduced from that amount, while in Speed Golf it's based on the amount of points earned in that mode. For Participation Bonus, 3 points are granted if the player finished one hole, but will be zero if they forfeit every one of the three holes since version 3.0.0. For Higher-Rank Defeat Bonus, if the player obtained a higher score compared to a player with a higher rank, 10 points will be granted for each opponent the player has a better score than, though it will not be granted if the player defeated another with a higher sub-rank but still within the same rank.

The rank a player is assigned to is based on the amount of points obtained so far. Each rank has three sub-ranks, where the first has a minus symbol, the second has no symbol, while the third has a plus symbol. For each sub-rank in a rank, it is 15 points for C-rank, 30 points for B-rank, 60 points for A-rank, and 120 points for S-rank. For every month, the player can obtain different alternate costume(s) for a specific character if they obtained A- in any category. The amount of points to reach a specific rank are as follows:

* If 675 points are obtained, the rank meter will remain filled and have "MAX" placed over it.

Golf Adventure [ edit ]

In Golf Adventure , the player plays as their Mii. Starting with a basic amount of experience, the player can earn experience points by participating in practices and matches. Doing so grants the player skill points that can be used to upgrade their stats, such as Power (how far the ball can be driven), Stamina (how long the player can dash), Speed (how fast the player can run), Control (how straight the player can hit the ball), and Spin (how much the player can spin/shape shots), while experience points upgrade their level and overall Lead Rank. In the overworld, the player can interact with several characters, such as Goomba and Hammer Bro , who may provide the player with challenges. There will also be matches against the playable characters and boss fights. The player will also be able to collect coins. By winning tournaments, players will be able to obtain new clubs and outfits.

Story [ edit ]

Toadette, Boo, and Chargin' Chuck are watching the golf tournament on TV. After the TV is turned off, Birdo introduces the player's Mii character to the three, and explains that the Mii character is the fourth rookie in their class. After being introduced to the three and getting a night of sleep, the Mii is woken up by Birdo, who explains the Mii is late for their initiation ceremony. At the initiation ceremony, the Mii receives a golf watch along with some starter clubs.

Solo Challenge [ edit ]

In Solo Challenge , there are four modes that the player can choose from: Score Attack, Time Attack, One-On, One Putt, and Target Golf. All modes can only be played by a single player, and any character can be selected except Miis. Each of these modes can be played using either button controls or motion controls, and the records for any of these modes except Target Golf can be checked under Play Stats. Records for button controls and motion controls are separate. In this mode, players can acquire Character Points for the selected playable character.

In both Score Attack and Time Attack, the game settings are determined by the club set. In most courses, the Standard Club Set will start the player off from the Standard tees, the Star Club Set will start the player off from the Back tees, while the Super Star Club Set will start the player off from the Championship tees. In New Donk City and Shelltop Sanctuary, the Standard Club Set uses the Amateur layout, while both the Star and Super Star Club Sets uses the Pro layout. Because Rookie Course has only one tee per hole, the club set does not affect the settings for this course. Because of the different starting tees for certain club sets, records between courses are separate unless they are the same, namely in Rookie Course for all club sets, as well as New Donk City and Shelltop Sanctuary for both Star and Super Star Club Sets.

  • Score Attack : The goal is to shoot for the lowest score over 18 holes in a selected course.
  • Time Attack : This mode is a single player version of Speed Golf. The goal is to shoot for the lowest time over 18 holes in a selected course.
  • New Donk City (Amateur) : Selectable by default.
  • New Donk City (Pro) : Requires clearing New Donk City (Amateur) to unlock.
  • Shelltop Sanctuary (Amateur) : Selectable by default.
  • Shelltop Sanctuary (Pro) : Requires clearing Shelltop Sanctuary (Amateur) to unlock.
  • Shelltop Sanctuary (Special) : Requires clearing Shelltop Sanctuary (Pro) to unlock. Unlike other courses, the player is given one or two special clubs found only in Golf Adventure and a putter.
  • C : Less than 300
  • B : 300 to less than 800
  • A : 800 to less than 1500
  • S : 1500 or more

Character select screen in Mario Golf: Super Rush

There are a total of 22 playable characters as of version 4.0.0. [10] Pauline , Chargin' Chuck , King Bob-omb , Ninji , Wiggler , and Shy Guy are playable for the first time in the series, with Chargin' Chuck and Ninji also making their overall playable debuts. In addition, Koopa Troopa is playable for the first time in the series since Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour . Mii characters are also playable, with variable statistics, and, along with Rosalina , Toad , and Toadette , are playable in a home console Mario Golf installment for the first time after previously being playable in Mario Golf: World Tour . When selecting a character, players have the option to change their club set or dominant hand. As of version 2.0.0, beginning in August 2021, if the player reaches the A- rank in Ranked Match in a specific month, they will unlock alternate costumes for characters.

Much like Mario Tennis Aces and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 , most characters wear specific golfing outfits, with the only exceptions being Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toadette, as well as Bowser's minions (aside from Boo's visor outfit). They also now carry their golf bag when moving on the course during Speed Golf.

All characters except Miis can have 2 additional unlockable Club Sets: Star and Super Star, at 1000 and 3000 Character Points respectively. The Sets give characters additional power and spin at the cost of control. Character points are awarded when a human player plays that character in Play Golf mode, playing one of the Solo Challenge modes, or playing a Ranked Match.

In Speed Golf and Battle Golf, the types of clubs available for each character's Club Set are limited to a select set of clubs. Target Golf also has the same set of clubs, except the putter (P) is not available. Only the Miis have a distinct set of clubs not used by any other character. The available clubs are as follows:

  • Standard Club Set : 1 Wood (1W), 5 Wood (5W), 5 Hybrid (5H), 7 Iron (7I), 9 Iron (9I), Sand Wedge (SW), Putter (P)
  • Star Club Set : 3 Wood (3W), 5 Hybrid (5H), 7 Iron (7I), 9 Iron (9I), Sand Wedge (SW), Putter (P)
  • Super Star Club Set : 5 Wood (5W), 5 Hybrid (5H), 9 Iron (9I), Sand Wedge (SW), Putter (P)

In addition, adjustments have been made to the game balance, and issues have been fixed to make the game experience more enjoyable.

Ver. 2.0.0 (released August 5, 2021) [ edit ]

Addition of Ranked Match We have added "Ranked Match" as an online play option. The goal is to improve your global ranking from "C-" to "S+" based on the number of monthly match points you accumulate from the results of your matches. In Ranked Matches, you will be automatically matched with opponents as close as possible in distance and rank. If there are only a few opponents available, you will be matched up even if there is some rank difference, but there is a handicap where higher ranked players will be behind you on the tee. If you can beat a higher ranked player, a bonus will be added to your monthly match points. Your monthly match points, rank, and global ranking will be reset every month, but you will still be able to review your past records. The game is divided into four categories: "Button Controls: Standard Golf", "Button Controls: Speed Golf", "Motion Controls: Standard Golf", and "Motion Controls: Speed Golf”. Achieve a rank of "A-" or higher each month, you will be able to use a character with a special appearance as a bonus. Achieve a rank of "A-" or higher in any one of the categories during August 2021, and you will be able to use "Red Yoshi”, “Blue Yoshi” and “Yellow Yoshi” as a bonus, effective immediately. Addition of "Toadette" as a playable character Toadette has been added as a playable character that can be used in matches. While she has the highest control rating of all the characters, she also has the lowest power. She is recommended for those who want to hit the ball exactly where they want it to go, one shot at a time. Golf Course "New Donk City" Added "New Donk City" from "Super Mario Odyssey" has been added as a playable golf course. This is a short course with 18 holes, all of which are rated Par 3, but it offers the possibility of unique strategies such as bouncing the ball off the walls of buildings. There are two difficulty levels to choose from, "Amateur" and "Pro", making the tees and greens of all 18 holes completely different. Adjusted Motion Controls It is now easier to generate power when swinging with a full swing in mind. Approach shots aiming at the cup position are now less likely to go wide. The angle of the club is now reflected on the screen when you get into a position to hit the ball. Additions to the "How to Play" section Added explanations of how to play, and tips for Motion Controls in the "Golf Guide". General Changes “Return to Character Select" and "Return to Course Select" have been added to the Pause Menu exit options. Character points required to obtain the next set of clubs are now displayed in Character Select. Course Select now displays the number of holes you need to play before you can play the next course. The number of holes played before the next course can be played is now displayed in Course Select. However, during online play, you may not be able to select it until you return to the main menu, even if you meet the conditions. The default number of players (including COM) has been changed to two when playing with the "Stroke Play " and "Take Turns" rules in the Standard Golf menu of “Play Golf”. Adjusted the search procedure for "Find a Room" in the online room menu of “Play Golf”. In online play, even if a network error occurs in another player’s room, the game will now continue after the player is replaced with a COM player. The room will be disbanded if the hosting console has a network error, because the hosting console manages the game settings. In Ranked Matches, if the hosting console has a communication error, it will be replaced by the COM and the game will continue. A warning and countdown will be displayed 30 seconds before the end of the game. Special Shots now pierce through tree foliage. When playing with two players in split-screen mode on a single Nintendo Switch console, the screen of the player who scores first will no longer follow the other player. Motion Controls has been changed so that the character will not automatically move when the pause menu is open during online play. Adjusted the difficulty level of the goal to clear XC Golf at Ridgerock Lake. Changes have been made to the game balance, and other issues, to make for a better play experience.
  • The shift mechanic has been adjusted to be random, and not determinant based on player position.
  • The gusts of wind blown out by Ty-foos at Ridgerock Lake now affect the trajectory of the player's ball.
  • The voice clip that plays when Daisy loses has been changed from her saying "Whatever!" to "Boo!"

Ver. 3.0.0 (released September 23, 2021) [ edit ]

“Koopa Troopa” added to Playable Characters Koopa Troopa has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He has very high Spin and Speed stats. His Special Dash has functions not seen in those of other characters. During the Special Dash, you can use the L stick to freely change the direction of movement. You can also use the A button to jump. During the Special Dash, you can also move across the surface of the water, but your Stamina consumption will increase. As long as Stamina remains, you can enter your shell, and continue Special Dashing Pressing the L button during a Special Dash will let you interrupt your Special Dash at any time. If your Special Dash hits other players, you will accelerate even more. This Special Shot has a new ability to bounce on the ground, and the number of times it bounces depends on the distance. While bouncing, it has the ability to blow other balls away. “Ninji” added to Playable Characters Ninji has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He has the highest Speed stat of all characters. During his Special Dash, you can glide with your cloak. The first time you land from a glide, you can bounce ahead, even on the surface of the water. His Special Shot, like Koopa Troopa's, has a new ability to bounce on the ground, with the number of bounces depending on the distance traveled. While bouncing, it has the ability to blow away other balls. “Blustery Basin” added to Playable Courses Blustery Basin, a snow-themed course, has been added as a playable golf course. In addition to Ty-foos and Snow Pokeys, a new stage obstacle, “Cooligans”, have also been added. When the climate shift "Blizzards" occur, the wind will be stronger than usual and the ball won’t travel as easily. Take not of the placement of bunkers and icy ponds. “Spiky Palms” added to Playable Courses Spiky Palms, a desert-themed course at dusk, has been added as a playable golf course. In addition to Pokeys, and tornadoes, a new stage obstacle, “Spike”, has also been added. When the climate shift "rain" occurs, shot travel can decrease, and the run may suffer as well. The trick is to hit the ball a little harder than usual. Addition of “CPU Skill” The CPU Skill can now be selected from “Amateur”, “Pro”, and “Champ”. Adjustments to Ranked Matches Starting with the October 2021 Ranked Match, the rules for "Standard Golf" have been changed from "Special Shots On" to "Special Shots Off". Courses will now change every 30 minutes, as opposed to every 60 minutes. If you forfeit all three holes, the points you earn, including the participation bonus, will be zero. General Changes In Online Play, for the options “Standard Golf” and “All at Once”, if a player fails to hole-in within one minute after all other players have holed-in, they are treated as if they’ve given up—as is the case in Speed Golf. Fixed a bug in Golf Adventure's XC Standard Round that appeared to allow players to take a route other than crossing to the other side with a tornado when "Restart from First Hole" was selected. Fixed a bug in New Donk City’s Amateur placement on Hole 13, where if a player had gotten a hole-in-one after hitting the parasol, one stroke would be added to their score. Adjusted some collision detection for buildings and other objects placed in New Donk City. Adjusted CPU behavior for New Donk City. Fixed a bug where animation and voice weren’t matching-up during the ranking display for Ranked Matches. Fixed a bug where Daisy’s voice and animations weren’t matching up when she hit a bogey. Made several other fixes, and adjustments to game balance to improve enjoyment and playability.

Ver. 4.0.0 (released November 23, 2021) [ edit ]

Added Playable Character, “Wiggler” Wiggler has been added as a playable character playable in matches. He is a power-type character that uses his long body to send the ball farther. When he uses a Special Shot or is attacked, he will become enraged and power up for a certain amount of time: Ball flight distance increases by 1.1 times. In "Speed Golf", in addition to distance, running speed and Special Dash speed will be enhanced by 1.25 times. In addition, the Special Dash will change from a straight shot to a special shot that hits the ground and sends out a shockwave. His Special Shot has the effect of blowing away balls from its point of impact, as well as the surrounding area, due to the impact of the berries that are launched with it. Added Playable Character “Shy Guy” Shy Guy has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He is a well-balanced, all-around character that is easy to use in any situation. His Special Dash uses the help of the Fly Guys to keep him flying until his gauge runs out, or a button is pressed. Use it at the right time to get an advantage over your opponent. His Special Shot has the effect of blowing away balls around its point of impact. Added Golf Course, “Shelltop Sanctuary” Added the full course “Shelltop Sanctuary”, made entirely of short holes. Shelltop Sanctuary, where Cheep Cheeps fly to and fro, is a short course with all of its 18 holes being Par 3. Two difficulty levels can be selected: “Amateur”, and “Pro”. Switching between them will greatly change the location of the green. Added Golf Course, “All-Star Summit” Added the full course “All-Star Summit”, which uses illustrations of Mario and others as a motif. This course features familiar characters, and the design of the green and the bunkers is different from other courses, so you can enjoy employing a different kind of strategy. The brick blocks strewn throughout the course can be broken by hitting them with a shot, or special dash. Break them to acquire coins that refill your Energy. Get on top of the clouds found on the course to travel to opposite banks, or acquire Star Coins to fully charge your Energy. Added New Mode, “Target Golf” A new mode that allows you to play with just tee shots, without needing to know the detailed rules of golf. Players take turns shooting a total of five balls at a circular target, competing for the highest score based on points awarded according to the position they hit. The closer the ball is to the center of the target, the higher the score will. If another player scores in an area first, however, the area will not be scored until the board resets. During play, ball types can change, and high-scoring targets appear that offer a chance for reversal. Can be played with Motion Controls. In the Play Golf menu, you can play against four other players with a single Joy-Con on a single Nintendo Switch. You can also play against four other players in Local Play and Online Play . In the Solo Challenge menu, you can also play the single player challenge content Solo Score Challenge, Target Golf . The challenge is to see how many points you can score before you miss three times, while the ball type and wind direction changes. Added New Mode, “One-On, One-Putt” One-On, One-Putt has been added to Solo Score Challenge , a mode where you must hit the green on the first swing and then putt into the cup on the second swing. The first shot must be on the green and the second shot must be in the cup. You can play this mode on New Donk City and Shelltop Sanctuary , which consist of short courses only, in Amateur and Pro configurations, respectively. In Shelltop Sanctuary , there is a Special difficulty level that requires you to use a special club for each hole. Game Balance Adjustments Changed the amount of Energy Gauge recovered when obtaining coins from 1% to 4%. Adjusted the number of coins that drop around you when you are attacked. When attacking another player with Special Dash, the coins dropped by the opponent will now be automatically collected. Stamina consumption when dashing with the B button has been reduced. When Stamina has completely depleted and the B button is being held down, after a fixed amount of time, Stamina will recover and the player can start dashing again, even if the B button is continuously held down. CPUs now aim more to collect the Coins and Hearts on the course than before. CPUs will now aim Special Shots and Special Dashes at other players more than before. General Medals are now displayed on the Main Menu, which allow you to check your completion of challenges and achievements. A guide explaining how to play will now display every time at the start of using Motion Controls. Spin will no longer be added after Pin Shots, and Flag Shots. Adjusted the positioning of some of the garbage cans and benches in New Donk City . Fixed an issue where Wario's Special Dash would sometimes hit an invisible wall above other players while going airborne. Fixed additional issues to improve playability and game balance.

Best Tennis Games Of All Time, Ranked

  • Tennis video games have evolved from their primitive beginnings to be frighteningly realistic like many sports games today.
  • Many fantastic tennis games have been released over the years despite tennis being overlooked by some big publishers.
  • Mario Tennis stands out as one of the highest-rated Mario sports games ever, offering a realistic tennis experience.

Tennis and gaming have a long history together, with Tennis For Two (1958) and table-tennis game Pong (1972) being two of the most important video game releases of all time. Since these primitive beginnings, tennis games have grown and improved alongside the industry as a whole, to the point where tennis video games today are - like many sports games - frighteningly realistic .

10 Best Nintendo Sports Games, Ranked

Unfortunately, tennis has been overlooked by many publishers in recent years, as companies like EA Sports and 2K Sports have focused more on team-based sports and modes like Ultimate Team that generate eye-watering sums of money each year. Thankfully, though, there have been many fantastic tennis games released over the years that are well-wroth replaying today.

Updated April 15th, 2024, by Jack Pursey : Like golf, tennis works as both a serious simulation-style video game and a wacky, over-the-top style of game , which has given the sport great variety in the gaming world, with franchises like Top Spin and the Mario tennis games providing stellar entertainment despite how fundamentally different their approach to the sport is. To give tennis fans a better idea of what to play next, this list of the best tennis video games has been updated to include a few more entries.

Mario Power Tennis (GameCube Version)

Metascore: 80, mario power tennis.

Platform(s) Wii, GameCube

Released October 28, 2004

Developer(s) Nintendo SPD, Camelot Software Planning

Publisher(s) Nintendo SPD, Camelot Software Planning

Similar to Top Spin 4 , Mario Power Tennis for the Nintendo Wii was an utter disaster thanks to the motion controls not working well with the game; Mario Power Tennis for the GameCube, however, is a critically acclaimed gem and one of the best tennis games of all time.

Unlike the aforementioned Mario Tennis (N64), Mario Power Tennis leans into the weird and wacky side of Mario sports games with gimmick courses and ridiculously over-the-top Power Shots, making Mario Power Tennis ideal for those who don't take their sports games too seriously.

Hot Shots Tennis: Get A Grip (Everybody's Tennis Portable)

Platform(s): PSP

Released: 2010-02-25

Developer(s): Clap Hanz

Publisher(s): Sony Computer Entertainment

As the name suggests, Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip (also known as Everybody's Tennis Portable ) is a spin-off of the popular Hot Shots Golf series (also known as Everybody's Golf ).

Nintendo Switch: 11 Best Sports Games That Arent Switch Sports

The game continues the Hot Shots tradition of largely ignoring realism, opting to provide fun and over-the-top gameplay instead. Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip 's impressive 80 on Metacritic, ten points higher than the lackluster Hot Shots Tennis that was initially released on the PlayStation 2 in 2006.

Mario Tennis: Power Tour

Metascore: 81.

Platform(s): Game Boy Advance

Released: 2005-09-13

Developer(s): Camelot Software Planning

Publisher(s): Nintendo

The Game Boy Advance probably isn't the first system that springs to mind when most people think of the best places to play sports games, but Mario Tennis: Power Tour offered a great time to anyone willing to give the handheld game a try.

Released in 2005, the gameplay is similar to that of Mario Power Tennis on the GameCube (more on that game later), with the gameplay being centered around earning Power Shots. Furthermore, there are both offensive and defensive power shots available, which offer a good level of variety and strategy to the gameplay.

Virtua Tennis 2 (Tennis 2K2)

Metascore: 83.

Platform(s): Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Arcade

Released: 2001-10-23 (Dreamcast)

Developer(s): Hitmaker

Publisher(s): Sega and Acclaim Entertainment

Virtua Tennis 2 (also known as Tennis 2K2 ) was first released in arcades in 2001 before arriving on Sega Dreamcast and then PlayStation 2 shortly after. The game introduced World Tour mode to the series, which would become a staple of the franchise, and it's not an exaggeration to say that it's one of the best single-player modes in any sports game ever released.

Virtua Tennis 2 - like any successful sports game - has wonderfully well-balanced gameplay and a great roster of playable characters, including top stars from the time, like Serena Williams, Tim Henman, and Patrick Rafter.

Top Spin 4 (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Version)

Metascore: 84.

Platform(s): PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360

Released: 2011-03-15

Developer(s): 2K Czech

Publisher(s): 2K

Top Spins 4 was developed by 2K Czech and was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii in March 2011. However, it's only the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions that make it onto this list as, unfortunately, the Nintendo Wii version suffered from poor motion controls and lackluster visuals.

24 Nintendo Switch Games To Play if You Like Wii Sports

Top Spin 4 on PS3 and Xbox 360, on the other hand, was an impressive technical achievement as it looked fantastic for the time and played as smooth as butter. It also featured numerous real-life players, along with licensed venues and equipment, making the game feel tremendously authentic.

Virtua Tennis: World Tour

Released: 2005-09-01

Developer(s): Sumo Digital

Publisher(s): Sega

Virtua Tennis: World Tour was released on the PSP in 2005. The game doesn't offer too many differences from the console releases, but it's still a fantastic tennis game to play on the go.

Like most games in the Virtua Tennis series, one of World Tour 's main strengths is its wide range of game modes. Along with the main World Tour mode, players can compete online, play in tournaments, and take on some of the series' quintessential minigames.

Mario Tennis

Metascore: 91.

Platform(s) Game Boy Color, Wii, Nintendo 64, Nintendo 3DS

Released August 28, 2000

Developer(s) Camelot Software Planning

Publisher(s) Nintendo

Released in the year 2000, Mario Tennis differentiates itself from most modern Mario sports games by not implementing any power-up mechanics in its gameplay; it instead offers a surprisingly realistic physics-based tennis experience.

With an impressive Metascore of 91, Mario Tennis is the highest-rated Mario sports game ever, excluding kart racers , with just Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (92) and Mario Kart Super Circut (93) being ahead of it.

Nintendo Brings Switch And Mario Himself To One Of World's Biggest Airports

Over the weekend, Mario was spotted at JFK International in New York.

By Evan Campbell on April 8, 2024 at 8:40AM PDT

Before you let's-a go on your flight, Nintendo is offering people a chance to play Switch games at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The company built a special pop-up space that will be available for travelers to check out from now to April 20.

In fact, the event--called Nintendo Switch On the Go--even featured Mario himself over the weekend. The overall-wearing hero walked around JetBlue's Terminal 5 at one of the world's biggest airports to meet fans and take pictures.

The Nintendo Switch On the Go pop-up event will run through April 20 at JetBlue's Terminal 5 in John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Nintendo didn't provide specifics on what Switch games were available to people at the pop-up event, though it provided the clue that you can "visit some of Mushroom Kingdom's favorite characters" through the titles. That probably means recently released Switch exclusives like Princess Peach Showtime and the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake. It wouldn't be surprising if Super Mario Bros. Wonder were showcased as well.

Everyone who owns a Switch can check out Princess Peach Showtime for free right now thanks to a demo that lets you sword-fight . You can also learn more about the game, thanks to GameSpot's Princess Peach Showtime review .

Looking ahead, Nintendo recently revealed release dates for upcoming Switch games like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. The former is set to launch May 23, while the latter will arrive June 27. These dates seem to imply Nintendo may change its release strategy to have games come out on Thursdays instead of Fridays going forward.

No VASI or PAPI in Krasnodar Pashkovskiy Airport?

VASI - Visual Approach Slope Indicator

The VASI is a system of lights so arranged to provide visual descent guidance information during the approach to a runway. These lights are visible from 3-5 miles during the day and up to 20 miles or more at night. The visual glide path of the VASI provides safe obstruction clearance within plus or minus 10 degrees of the extended runway centerline and to 4 NM from the runway threshold. Descent, using the VASI, should not be initiated until the aircraft is visually aligned with the runway. Lateral course guidance is provided by the runway or runway lights.

Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI): The precision approach path indicator (PAPI) uses light units similar to the VASI but are installed in a single row of either two or four light units. These systems have an effective visual range of about 5 miles during the day and up to 20 miles at night. The row of light units is normally installed on the left side of the runway and the glide path indications are as depicted.

This looks beautiful!! Great work.

The only improvement I could think of, is to use less external libraries and use the default XP assets instead.

URSS652 1 year(s) ago

Good afternoon! Thanks for the feedback!

I tried very hard to use as few third-party libraries as possible, but unfortunately there are still not enough objects in XP12 that are really needed for the airfield, such as the ILS system

Initial release of this file just launched. Welcome aboard!
