Bateaux-Mouches Tours of the Seine River

Offering Commented Tours in Multiple Languages; Lunch and Dinner Cruises

Offering boat tours of the Seine River with commentary in ten languages, Bateaux-Mouches is arguably the most well-known Parisian tour operator. Thousands of tourists crowd the company's fleet of large white boats with bright orange seats to take in some of Paris' most famed sights and attractions on the banks of the river, including the Musee d'Orsay, the Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre Museum. For first-time visitors, such a tour can be a great way to take in some of the city's main sights all at once, and it's also a boon for elderly or disabled travelers who may not be able to walk around for long periods of time. It can also be great for couples looking for a romantic but relatively inexpensive activity, especially at night, when the river is bathed in glimmering light.

Whether you want to sit on the outside deck and see the sights in the open air, or enjoy the views from within the covered glass area (advisable in winter months), a spin on the Seine is always enjoyable. I've taken the tour many times with visiting family and friends, and while it's a no-frills experience, I and my guests have always found it worthwhile.

Bateaux-Mouches boats (there is a total of nine in the fleet) dock at and launch from Pont d'Alma near the Eiffel Tower. No reservations are necessary, but in peak months they are recommended .

You can choose between simple commented cruise tours, or enjoy a lunch or dinner cruise. The Bateaux-Mouches company also offers a combined cruise-Paris cabaret package that includes a boat tour and a dinner and shows at the Crazy Horse.

Commentary Languages Available

The company offers commentary in these languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Headsets are provided free of charge with a ticket for the basic cruise but are not obligatory.

What Will I See on This Tour? 

The basic Bateaux-Mouches sightseeing tour offers glimpses, or better, of the following sights and attractions: the Eiffel Tower,  Musee d'Orsay ,  Ile St-Louis ,  Hotel de Sens , and the Arc de Triomphe, among a slew of other sights.

My Review of the Basic Sightseeing Tour

Please note: This review is in fact drawn from several experiences taking the basic sightseeing tour (I have not reviewed the lunch or dinner cruises). 

I've consistently found this tour to be an excellent way to survey many of the city's most famous sights in a quick and relaxed way. On one occasion, I brought my grandmother, who's in her '70s and has limited mobility, and it proved a very enjoyable outing: one that allowed her to see a lot without having to worry about getting tired or finding accessible places to explore. 

Touring in the daytime offers a different experience than taking the tour after dusk.  During the day, you get a sharper view of most of the sites and, on a sunny day, can enjoy the light playing off the buildings. At night, you may have a more impressionistic sense of things, but the beautifully lit buildings (and the scintillating Eiffel Tower to the west) can be really memorable. I also recommend taking the tour during the evening hours if you're crowd-shy and/or wish to avoid crying babies and groups of young children. School groups are out en masse during the daytime, and parents tend to bring babies aboard during the day more so than during the evening hours . 

I'm admittedly not a huge fan of the audio guide.  I found it at times repetitive and tiresome, and I wish they would simplify it while also avoiding the repetition of the same facts in different contexts. If you'd prefer, you can download a brochure that shows a map of what you'll see, and enjoy the challenge of trying to identify the monuments as you pass them by. 

A last observation: I wouldn't recommend sitting out on the deck during cold winter days, and sometimes at night the winds off of the Seine can feel glacial unless you're properly bundled up. 

Overall, this tour delivers on its promises and is arguably more than worth the modest ticket price.

The view on the Seine from the landing stage is magnificent. The Bateaux Parisiens leave from the foot of the Eiffel Tower, on the left bank. The route on the Seine of both companies is identical. For an exceptional event, lunch or dinner cruises (between 1h30 and 2h30) are a unique moment. Even more so in the evening or at nightfall.

Hello. I could only find an email with a barcode for 2 people. The scanner lady at the boat entrance wouldn't let us through. No manager present. I had the invoice for 2 places, but the cashier didn't want to know. Finally, I got back on the boat, and another, friendlier girl took my phone in her hand, found the right email mail with the 2 barcodes and we were able to board the next boat. What a nightmare!

There are no speakers on the outside of the bateau mouche to tell us what monuments we're seeing. In fact, it's just a ride on the Seine. What's more, we didn't even get as far as the cathedral, because of the height of the Seine. Explanation not mentioned anywhere before buying tickets. I had to ask an employee on the boat. I'll take another company next time.

Despite glorious weather, the walk didn't live up to expectations: the roof terrace was closed because the Seine was too high, so we were all crushed against the barriers on the bridge below. Didn't go as far as Notre Dame, no explanations...

Hello, Unfortunately, you took the cruise during a period of flooding on the Seine. Normally, the Bateaux Mouches team would have warned you before departure of the special navigation conditions and suggested that you postpone the cruise.

We were able to try out the fly boat for 1h10 with 6 and 7 year olds, and it didn't take too long. We appreciated being able to eat in the warmth during the ride, as it was really cold outside! What we didn't like were the people who kept going in and out without closing the doors, letting in the wind and cold and forcing the people near the doors to act as doormen. We didn't do exactly what we'd originally planned, and would have liked to have been warned. The boat turned back before the bridges leading to the Nôtre Dame church. To compensate for the timing, it continued past the Eiffel Tower towards the Maison de la Radio. Much less interesting, apart from the Statue of Liberty. Was there too much water for the original route? A bit painful to hear the translations in 5 languages... In the end, you don't really listen anymore, because it's almost always talking. The kids enjoyed it all the same, and so did we. It was a great way to rest the legs and dry the jackets a little before setting off again to discover Paris in a whole new way!

Following a boat breakdown that cost us 30 minutes (that's part of the hazards, so we don't hold it against them), the itinerary was changed and we turned back in front of Art Point. As a result, we didn't get to tour Ile St-Louis or see Notre-Dame Cathedral, which we really wanted to do. No one warned us or informed us. Big disappointment.

Friday, November 3, technical problem with a boat. We had to wait 45 minutes beyond the scheduled time, standing in the cold on the boarding dock... The dedicated staff didn't even have a microphone to pass on the information. Fortunately, navigation went smoothly. A cup of hot coffee on the quay or on board would have been welcome... ☹️

I recommend doing this in Paris, ideally at sunset: we had 30 minutes of daylight, and 30 minutes (the return journey) with the lights coming on (bridges, buildings, etc.) and the highlight, the sparkling Eiffel Tower on our arrival.

I'd recommend the evening, with all the monuments lit up, which was a bit chilly for Normal at the end of October... less crowded than during the day, and it was really great. The only downside was that we didn't hear anything from the commentary speakers.

A pleasant, relaxing outing that appealed to young and old alike. The views of the monuments are lovely. We don't understand/hear the recorded comments very well, and they don't necessarily interest children either. It's a pity that these boats still use gasoline. That said, we recommend this outing.

The ride was supposed to be beautiful, so I chose to book online to save time, to go at times that coincided with the setting sun, and to arrive early enough to get a seat. Once there, the staff were overwhelmed. No timetable posted, 45 min wait on site, I had read that there were departures every 30 min. We were among the first 50/60 to arrive and waited. The crowd came in continuously behind us. Finally, 45 minutes later, it was time to get on and NO ORGANIZATION! In the end, the first to arrive went up last! And those who arrived last had the door opened first, rushing like animals to keep complete rows on the floor. By the time we got upstairs, no seats were available outside! Even standing up, we couldn't get a "good seat". An hour's ride with NOTHING to see, a little girl disappointed and crying because yes, it was her dream to see Paris by boat. 32 euros (with discount) spent on NOTHING, a total loss of 3 hours! We should (but for that we need to invest!!!) think about a proper queuing system, and hire more employees to manage tourists who think they're KINGS and have no respect, such as screaming and whistling every time they pass under a bridge. Once yes... 12 times NO. NO on-site management, to be avoided at the height of the season!!!

Hello, I had booked my tickets for a day in Paris for the July 14th festivities. My goal was to admire the fireworks with my family from the Seine, as many guides recommend. Unfortunately, by 17:00, all access to the banks of the Seine was blocked due to the extensive security arrangements put in place by the prefecture. My children were particularly disappointed, and in the end we had to make our way to the then-crowded Champs de Mars to watch the fireworks in far less comfortable conditions than originally planned... I regret that no warning was mentioned when I booked my tickets, and I hope I'll have the opportunity to make use of it next time I'm in Paris...

I was able to show my sister-in-law around Paris on a fly boat. She had an overview of the main monuments visible from the Seine. She was delighted. The weather was nice that day which made the visit easier. The tickets were booked on the internet which is very practical because there is no need to print the tickets. Overall a very pleasant day.

At sunset, the experience was extraordinary. But there were way too many people, probably because of the exceptional weather. I must admit that I was afraid of a crowd movement while waiting for the boat to arrive. We were caught in a human tide, I almost panicked for my children. I won't do it again in such conditions. We need better crowd control. It can be dangerous.

The tickets were impossible to obtain via my computer and only possible with a phone for an unexplained reason. The reception at the ticket office following this problem was really poor. The comments are inaudible, especially when you go under a bridge, as it seems to be usual for passengers to scream at that moment. This practice is to be urgently proscribed: we did not hear anything overall. The comments (when audible) are repeated x times in several languages. There should be an audio device that allows you to choose your language and to have a more complete text in the chosen language rather than hearing 5 or 6 times elements limited in quantity and in different languages!

Super cruise to discover the main monuments of Paris via the Seine. The advantage of being on a boat is that you have time to admire the beauty of the city. You can make a list of the sites that you really want to visit (inside the monument, the museum...). I advise you to do this cruise as soon as you arrive in Paris and to do it during the day when the weather is nice (if possible). At night it can also be nice to see the city of light but for a second time. Another advantage with the tickets I bought is that they are valid for one year. Also, if you want to be on top of the boat it's in the open air, so if it's winter cover up well. If you are cold, you can always be placed downstairs, you will be covered and warm, you can also take pictures there because almost 360* of glass. Be careful sometimes there are traces on the windows, so for your photos choose your place well. It's free placement, first come first served. I wish you a pleasant cruise! Have a nice visit!

Visit executed on Saturday, the people were unruly by posting themselves on the side barriers (justifying themselves by explaining that the number of people on the boat exceeded the number of seats) and thus masking the sight to the people sitting... Some people almost came to blows. Because of the bad atmosphere on board, it was impossible to hear the comments from the loudspeaker. Scandalous conditions of visit, it was necessary that that falls on us... Very very disappointed. If there was a zero rating I would have selected it.

We took advantage of a special offer through Familin'Paris to discover the fly boat on the Seine. It was very nice for tourists. It allows to discover monuments without the inconvenience of public transport and traffic jams. We could be outside of the boat or in the cool inside. It was appreciable with this time of heat wave and small children.

It was good on the whole. But, unfortunately, when you are outside, on top of the boat, you can hardly hear the explanations. Moreover, when I placed the order, I received an email saying that I would receive the tickets... which I never received! fortunately I had printed the Qr code

Nice walk, a little bit noisy: each explanation is given in 4 or 5 languages which makes you drop the thread at one point: a headset system would be appreciated. For the rest very pleasant and meets what is announced.

The planned program indicated 1h10 of cruise and we found ourselves back at the dock after 50 minutes. Moreover, it is a mistake to want to make centralized comments in 4 different languages. As the boat continues its journey, the comments are no longer appropriate. Gu8de headset to distribute?

The boat ride was very pleasant and the commentary was relevant. The activity was unfortunately disrupted by a large group of foreign travelers who had taken over the front part of the upper deck and prevented people from using the front deck as they pleased (for example to take pictures), having "reserved" it for their group and refusing any discussion. Too bad (but it is not your fault)

The cruise did not start well. I had misprinted my 3 tickets bought online from you. Only one out of 3 could pass the control! At the cash desk, the employees didn't want to know anything, while I was putting my paper invoice under their noses instead of the electronic tickets that I couldn't find on my phone, the irritation was growing! Tickets not taken at home, they recited in chorus! I had to give them 15 euros to get a "good" ticket!!! The 3rd person got bored and went elsewhere. But when the cruise was over, I went back to the cashier, I asked to see a person in charge ... Whose intelligence allowed me to be reimbursed of my 15 euros!!!!! After, nevertheless, one hour of palaver... Without further comment...

We were not lucky. The boat could not sail because of a breakdown We had all boarded... more than 1 hour waiting... a catastrophic management! No communication from the crew! It was other customers who informed us. I have a priority card because of my handicap. Nothing was done for us or for parents with young children... we disembarked last and reembarked last on the new boat .... I found myself standing up .... Very disappointed with the organization...

Good experience. But it's a shame to have to wait in line even when you bought tickets in advance. That day there was a technical problem on a boat so a lot of delay and waiting. No announcement was made to explain this to the customers. Also it is a pity when we are on the open floor not to have a speaker to hear the explanations on the monuments. Only the bottom floor covered hears the explanations.

The welcome as a departure of the boat, the speed of the boat, the approach of Paris island from the Seine, to observe the Parisians living on the banks of the Seine, the nice Parisians answering our hello!!! :-) the duration was perfect too...and the right time from 7pm to 8pm...it was not too hot anymore... The passage under the bridges is magical for young and old alike! The proximity with the monuments is crazy! The price even for a family is very interesting, because the visit remains complete and lasts more than one hour. I recommend this activity at least once without any problem.

I had booked on this site a few days before my arrival in Paris at the beginning of August in order to organize my improvised weekend. So I was able to print the qr codes in advance. When we arrived at the "bateau mouche" on the day, my husband, my daughter and I could never get through the barriers to access the boat "qrcode unknown"... the ticket agent obviously didn't want to hear anything and once all the tourists had passed by us, I had to pay for our 3 seats and we sat down where there was some left... some space... An advice: buy your tickets on the spot, there are terminals, it's safer and faster!

No distancing measures, the seats were left free, no one was in charge of guiding the placement, the hydroalcoholic gel was limited to a poor bottle carelessly placed at the entrance of the boat. At the moment of departure the boat is crowded, the funnel exit at the end of the journey does not help. We still wonder how this can exist, and how the authorities, so quick to control everyone, allow such an organization to continue, which even if it is outside, is inappropriate. We really appreciated the ease of access on board thanks to the internet tickets. We decided at the last minute and were able to take the boat that was leaving right after. Very good. We paid for the tickets online and were soon on the boat. Once on the boat, we settled on the upper deck. Then when the tour could start, a standing crowd came, spoiling our tour. The crowd was pushing the kids, pushing us while we were sitting, all to take pictures. We tried to make the people understand the embarrassment they were causing without success. Without exaggeration we had their butts in our heads! It was really not a pleasure.

Stroll made at the end of October so very little waiting = fast boarding = many places available. Prefer the easy online booking with a small discount by internet = nice. Journey and duration respected ! Of course, all the comments are not only in "French", because multi-lingual explanations are necessary. That's PARIS ! On the other hand, the maritime terms used (e.g.: port or starboard) to direct the glances and to indicate which buildings one faces (or that one was to face) is not sufficiently precise for those which are not sailors in grass. Very nice. In short, I recommend it.

I loved it, we bought the tickets online in promo, so no waiting at the ticket office! we just had to scan at the gate and then wait 10 to 15 minutes, the time for the previous passengers to disembark, well installed on the bridge, we could see many monuments from another angle, the ride lasts 1 hour, we did not see it go by and it allowed us to rest our tired legs. Very nice to discover Paris from the Seine, it is another vision of the buildings. We can appreciate well the architecture of the bridges. The audio quality leaves something to be desired. The comments go too fast at certain moments, we hardly have the time to realize which building we speak about. The sound quality is not great. The indiscipline of some tourists who do not remain seated in their place, stand up and disturb the seated passengers who want to take pictures. I will nevertheless recommend this activity.

For Sightseeing Cruises, reservations are not obligatory, but due to high demand, they are highly recommended (average on-site waiting time: 1 hour). E-tickets allow you to access the boats directly, avoiding waiting at the ticket counters. E-tickets are usable for any departure on the reserved day and remain automatically valid for 24 months at the date and time of your choice in case of unforeseen circumstances.

For lunches and dinners, advance reservations are mandatory. We recommend booking at least 15 days in advance.

Are there stops during the Cruises?
