See inside Dolly Parton’s tour bus designed by the country star herself

Dolly Parton gives fans a tour of her "Gypsy Wagon."

After working "9 to 5," where does legendary singer Dolly Parton rest up? Her tour bus, of course.

Now, thanks to Dollywood, you can book that tour bus (which is called "Gyspy Wagon" by Parton) yourself!

Dollywood recently released photos of the "Gypsy Wagon" to promote a special accommodation the park is offering: up to two guests can stay at least two nights in "Dolly Suite 1986" (aka on the tour bus). The cost to do so begins at $10,000.

Dollyworld offers an opportunity for its guests to stay on Parton's tour bus.

Aside from being a wildly successful country music icon, Parton also is a "free-spirited traveler," according to a Dollywood press release — so it's no wonder her tour bus is decorated akin to her personality.

According to that press release, Parton used this tour bus from 2008 to 2022, marking 13 years of traveling across the country. In that stretch of time, she did the most traveling on her 2016 "Pure & Simple" tour, where she visited more than 60 cities in North America.

Parton's bus from the exterior.

While the outside of the bus may appear just as an average tour bus (you know, aside from the big, pink "Dolly" sticker), the interior proves to be a wonderfully-curated collection of items and furniture that are so Dolly Parton.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a sitting area that exudes '70s vibes, complete with antique accessories like a vintage telephone. Don't worry though, there is a modern television!

According to Dollywood, Parton specifically requested the hand-painted murals that adorn the walls in this room.

Sitting room in Dolly's tour bus.

"These unique paintings of wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls paint the interpretation of life on the road for the singer," the press release reads.

The bedroom features brightly-colored accents and some personal memorabilia from Parton herself.

Then, enter the bedroom, which is by far the most quintessential "Dolly" room you'll probably ever see.

The bedroom boasts lots of jewel-toned accents, such as hot pink and blue wall designs — even the bedding, complete with fuzzy pink pillows, is a signature hot pink.

Her makeup vanity is also on display, complete with a makeup mirror, flowers in a vase and a perfectly-picked pink and purple vanity chair to match.

Parton's closer, complete with shoes, outfits and accessories from Parton.

Open the closet door and guests can get a glimpse of some outfits and accessories the singer has worn.

And the standout detail of the bedroom: Parton's wig cabinet. Parton herself said that her wigs have sort of become her "trademark" over the years, so it's no wonder the singer wants some of them on display for her guests.

Parton's trademark wigs are on display for guests.

Parton's home away from home includes a plethora of design details that perfectly encapsulate who she is. Our only question now is: When do we get to stay?

Dolly Parton is now taking reservations for her tour bus

Dolly Parton is offering fans a sleepover inside her extravagantly decorated tour bus that’s fit for a country queen.

The tour bus, nicknamed Suite 1986, is at Dollywood DreamMore Resort & Spa in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and is now taking reservations.

“(I) decided to retire it because I wasn’t touring that much anymore and it just was sitting there,” Parton told the Knoxville News Sentinel . “And I thought this could be put to really good use.”

The customized tour bus sleeps two and will cost guests $10,000 for a two-night stay. The reservation also includes a DreamMore Resort guest room to accommodate up to four additional guests.

“If you’ve got money — and a lot of people do — they just want to experience that,” Parton said.

In true Parton fashion, a portion of the profits from every stay will be donated to the Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton's "Gypsy Wagon" is parked at the Dollywood Resort

Everyone knows Parton loves a good makeover, and her tour bus was no exception. The 45-foot bus was customized to accommodate Parton while she toured 360,000 miles across the country in 13 years.

The bus was designed by Parton and her sister to give “an authentic look into her colorful interpretation of life on the road,” according to a history by Dollywood.

Parton revamped the bus with a full-sized refrigerator, electric doors, a bathtub and a wig cabinet. She also had three of the bunk beds taken out and turned the section into a closet for her iconic, bedazzled wardrobe, including her Christian Louboutin shoes, sparkling gowns and butterfly jewelry — all of which are on display.

The queen of country requested special hand-painted murals on the walls and ceiling featuring wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls to honor her “Gypsy Wagon.” The paintings add to the floor-to-ceiling pink and purple ornamental decor that covers every inch of the space.

Guests of Suite 1986 will also get to enjoy special culinary creations, dedicated concierge service and exclusive Suite 1986 swag, the News Sentinel reported. The bus is parked in a gated space just outside the DreamMore Resort with easy access to Dollywood restaurants and amenities.

Parton preferred her bus to hotels or planes and often opted to stay in her mobile home.

“I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling; I’m a true gypsy at heart,” she said in a press release.

She spent much of her time writing on the bus and put together most of “Backwoods Barbie” and “9 to 5: The Musical” while onboard, but she also spent time making sandwiches for her entourage and talking with her best friend and personal assistant, Judy Ogle.

“We’ve had lots of wonderful memories of people that would come on the bus to visit when we traveled around, dignitaries, stars, everybody, but all the memories are special to me,” Parton told the News Sentinel.

The Backwoods Barbie is now welcoming fans to make their own tour bus memories.

Get a Closer Look at Dolly Parton’s Incredible Tour Bus “The Gypsy Wagon”

Dolly Parton RV tour bus gypsy wagon

Dolly’s upgraded bus (pictured) cost more than three times as much as her now-retired vehicle

Country superstar Dolly Parton has been making music for nearly 50 years, with a discography that includes iconic hits like “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “Here You Come Again.” Over the years, Dolly has traveled along the roadways of America more times than you can imagine. To stay comfortable on the road, the country singer would ride in style in a tour-bus-turned-RV she lovingly called the Gypsy Wagon.

RV 101: Everything you need to know before you buy

It all started in the 1960s when Dolly fell in love with old buses that were modified and turned into RVs. In those days, she would drive herself to each tour stop, but stardom quickly caught up and provided her with perks, including a driver and an upgraded RV. The Gypsy Wagon was custom built in 1994 by Prevost Car Inc and cost Dolly $750,000. But knowing Dolly, she’d probably say something like, “You can’t put a price on comfort!”

While touring, Dolly would actually prefer her RV to hotels. Considering it had a pink bedroom, bunk beds for her visiting family members, a closet made specifically for her wigs, two showers, a large kitchen, and a makeup area, it’s not surprising that she would want to stay put. She has even said that out of all of the homes she has across the U.S., the bus is her favorite home.

Fun fact: The “Backwoods Barbie” and “9 to 5” albums were both written on the Gypsy Wagon

The bus-turned-RV, which has over 600,000 miles on it, was retired in 2009 and is parked at Dollywood for visitors to tour. On the outside of the vehicle by the door is a plaque honoring Dolly’s former manager and bus driver Don Warden, who passed away in 2017. Inside the vehicle, guests can see the actual china Dolly used when she would cook for her friends. And in true Dolly fashion, butterfly décor can be found throughout the vehicle.

Dolly’s got a lavish new ride now, though. Her latest bus-turned-RV is a 2010 Prevost that cost $2.7 million. It’s 8 feet longer than her previous ride and features more slide outs, providing a lot more room than the 1994 bus. Maybe in a few more years Dolly will get another upgrade and this latest vehicle will get a permanent home at the singer’s Pigeon Forge theme park too!

My '9 to 5' sent me to sleep in Dolly Parton’s $10,000 tour bus suite — here’s what it was like

Tanner Saunders

I'm not alone in loving Dolly Parton.

Most of us love Dolly, the 5-foot-tall East Tennessee multihyphenate bombshell who changed country music — all music, really — with her gift of storytelling and melodic magic.

For me, though, Dolly created a special melody that played throughout my life. Growing up, I was lucky enough to visit Dollywood a handful of times and spent countless hours listening to her incredible songs on the road between Texas, where I grew up, and Tennessee.

In fact, I love music so much that songwriters like her inspired me to move to Nashville the first second I could, just like she did, to study songwriting at Belmont University. And in college, I even worked as a backstage tour guide at the Grand Ole Opry, taking guests behind the scenes before and after shows to share the stories of the stage and dressing rooms where Dolly, as a member of the Opry, performed her hits.

But in early September, I got to take my love for Dolly to a whole new level on a trip to her "Tennessee Mountain Home" of Pigeon Forge for an opportunity that's now probably the ultimate experience (apart from meeting Dolly in the flesh) for any die-hard fan: the chance to spend two nights sleeping on the 10-time Grammy winner's recently retired tour bus.

Pinch me. How am I so lucky that this is my literal "9 to 5"?

The Dolly Suite 1986 Tour Bus Experience

Earlier this year, Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa — her resort near the theme park — announced that Dolly was converting the tour bus she used for the last 15 years into a hotel "suite" that can be booked for a once-in-a-lifetime stay. Between 2008 and 2022, Dolly (who hates flying) traveled nearly 360,000 miles on the bus, using the time on the road to write the "Backwoods Barbie" album and "9 to 5 The Musical."

For a cool $10,000, two guests (likely superfans) can book the bus for a two-night stay to sleep, literally, in Dolly's bed. The experience also includes a private dinner on the bus with Dolly's chef; breakfast for two each day at the resort buffet; and a bunch of goodies like Dolly's book, "Songteller: My Life in Lyrics" (I'd brought my own copy from home as it's essentially my songwriting bible) and her perfume, "Dolly, Scent from Above," among other glitzy extras.

And while the fee is steep, a good portion of the proceeds go directly to the Dollywood Foundation, which funds Dolly's Imagination Library, a program that gives free books to kids up to the age of 5 in a handful of countries. In fact, by 2020, Imagination Library had given away more than 150 million books. (Dolly herself also donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University to help fund the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

After covering the announcement of the tour bus experience and spending the night at the Dolly Parton-themed Graduate Hotel in Nashville , I knew this experience was something I'd have to do one day. Luckily, Dolly's team knew about my love of the country goddess and extended an invitation to be one of the first to lay my head in the most glitzy "suite" of them all.

In the spirit of Dolly's kindness and in appreciation of the comped stay, TPG is making a donation to the Dollywood Foundation for $2,500.

Livin' like Dolly

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

While the Suite 1986 Tour Bus Experience is a two-night stay, I arrived at DreamMore a night early, along with my colleague, Colby Kirkpatrick, to get a feel for the resort, located about an hour from McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS).

That night, I didn't sleep. I was too excited. I'd also found out that Dolly was sleeping at the resort in the top-floor suite, having just wrapped filming a movie at the park. Dolly always said she sleeps in her makeup so if there was an emergency, she'd look her best having to make a midnight escape.

"Should I pull the fire alarm?" I wondered to myself at 4 a.m. "No, that's probably not the way to get on her good side."

The big moment finally arrived at 10 a.m. the next morning. I met Shana, who manages the experience, to escort us to the bus.

Shana had an "emergency" and had to dash off for a moment. Later, we found out her "emergency" was Dolly leaving the resort. As it happened, a mom and her young daughter were at the right place at the right time to see Dolly exit. While I was sad to have missed her myself, Shana told us that Dolly took a picture with the little girl and asked her what she was doing that day.

"We're going to Dollywood," the child said. "Oh Dolly, I think I know her!" Dolly joked before floating away.

Walking from the resort to the bus, I felt like a celebrity strolling down a red carpet (just without the paparazzi). The bus pad is surrounded by greenery, and I noticed a handful of butterflies (a symbol often associated with Dolly) floating in and out of the flora.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

The spirit of Dolly was with me.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

When the door finally opened, I stepped up the stairs into the 45-foot-long Prevost bus, noticing the worn leather of the driver's seat, a sign of the hundreds of thousands of miles this once-touring bus had covered, then turned to my left for the first taste of my temporary life as Dolly Parton.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

"Here I Am" flooded my head. There I was for sure.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

The bus itself felt like a retro-homey railroad-style apartment; not a Four Seasons suite on wheels, but a place that's actually lived in.

In the front, there was a couch with a television above it that was shuffling through country music songs and a slideshow of Dolly photos. Directly opposite was a dining room table with a half-circle bench and inlaid cup holders where Dolly and her crew (usually her friend and personal assistant, Judy Ogle, and bus driver, Tim Dunlap) would've sat for meals. Maybe a pimento cheese sandwich?

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

In fact, I was told Dolly loves to make her own meals so much that in the bus's kitchen there's a full-size refrigerator (bigger than the one in my New York City apartment) that required removing the bus windshield to fit it inside. The fridge was stocked with Coca-Cola products, including root beer — her favorite.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

Around the main living and kitchen area, a close friend of Dolly's, Donna Davis Carter, helped customize the space with hand-painted murals. In one scene, Carter depicted herself and Dolly dancing in colorful outfits around a fire.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

But here, the real highlight was tucked away in the back corner, where a glass case held a rhinestone-studded guitar, guitar strap and hot-pink fringe-adorned tambourine from the "Two Doors Down" episode of "Dolly Parton's Heartstrings" on Netflix. Though I was sad the instruments were behind lock and key, I could hear the strum of that shiny six-string in my heart.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

To the side, there was a small door that opened to reveal a little bathroom with a toilet and a sink. It was there I was reminded that this may be Dolly's motorized house, but it's still a bus, and so the toilets flush by holding down a little switch that takes a while to do anything then sucks everything down with a dramatic "whoosh."

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

One fun thing Dolly installed was a trio of electronic pocket doors that separated the bus into four distinct areas, the second of which was where three bunkbeds were stacked for her travel companions. In those windowless bunks, guests could catch some shut-eye in privacy by closing multicolored, velvety curtains or catch up on their favorite shows by flipping down an in-ceiling television.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

On a regular tour bus, the opposite wall would likely have more bunks — but this is Dolly we're talking about. She had that wall retrofitted into a closet to hold her sequined dresses and, obviously, her wigs, of which she's said to have one for every day of the year.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

For the suite experience, the closet was transformed into another display that held dramatic jewelry, such as a pink hummingbird necklace (another symbol Dolly is known for); an assortment of glamorous dresses worn to specific events, including the dress she wore while cohosting the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards (which I watched live at home); and even a few pairs of her higher-than-the heavens heels, all of which were red-bottomed Louboutins.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

The memorabilia reminded me of my tour guide days at the Opry where, in one dressing room, I'd tell fans from around the world the story of how Dolly wrote "I Will Always Love You" as a somber goodbye to her longtime musical partner, Porter Wagoner, when she wanted to venture out on her own.

As we say in country music, "May the circle be unbroken." And for me, it really had come full circle.

Personal space

Passing through the next pocket door, I realized I was entering a sacred space: Dolly's private bathroom (two bathrooms on one bus!) and bedroom, all highly customized to be her sanctuary on the road.

The bathroom was tiny. Very tiny. But also beautiful and very Dolly. In a shoebox-size, bohemian space to the side was a toilet, orange velvet curtains hiding the storage area, golden candle sconces, a tiny sink in the corner and even toilet paper embossed with "Suite 1986."

But what was extra crazy about this compact bathroom was that it has a shower with an actual bathtub that's maybe 2 1/2 feet deep and just wide enough for me to sit in with my legs folded into my chest. And I can say that with certainty because, for the sake of journalism, I did take a bath in that little tub.

I also sang my heart out because how many people in the world can say they sang in Dolly's actual shower?

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

And then there was the bedroom.

I was immediately overwhelmed with joy in the room, which is filled with flourishes of magenta, fuchsia, turquoise and gold, plus more textures, more fringe and more florals than I'd ever seen in a single space. And it all just worked.

I also wondered if maybe it was a play on Dolly's real-life coat of many colors, with each fabric and texture carefully selected to complement the next. Maybe this home was an ode to her first; a humble cabin with two rooms shared by her parents and 11 siblings with no running water or electricity.

Look how far she's come.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

The room made me feel like Dolly herself had wrapped me up in her arms the same way her music did. It was an intimate feeling, like connecting with someone you know deeply despite not actually knowing them at all.

On the far end of the bus was another glass case, this one containing the best memorabilia of them all: a collection of Dolly's big blonde wigs. I tried to imagine where she wore them. In an interview, she was once asked how long it takes her to get her hair done.

"I don't know," she responded. "I'm never there!"

Dolly also had a separate refrigerator and microwave installed in her bedroom, presumably to have easy access to drinks and snacks without having to leave her sanctuary. Knowing it was there, I'd packed a bag of popcorn to heat up, along with a download of "9 to 5" for a movie night later in the stay.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

And then there was the vanity, with a short cushioned stool, a big mirror and a little pull-out mirror, along with amenities for guests like Sun Coast salt scrub, lip balm and a white leather Dopp kit. Other goodies I got to take home from the suite included a vinyl copy of the "Coat of Many Colors" album, towels embroidered with the Suite 1986 logo and an ultraplush bathrobe with the same emblem as the towels.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

I thought about Dolly's self-confidence and how, despite criticisms for her appearance, she's always been proud.

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap," she's famous for saying.

To me, Dolly will always look like a million bucks.

Calling squatter's rights

Later, in this guest room-turned-closet, I was reminded for the second time that I was, in fact, on a bus and not just in a regular hotel room. I closed the motorized door separating the back area from the kitchen and when I went to open it, nothing happened.

I tried again and again and still — nothing.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

Luckily, every guest on the bus has a private concierge phone number to text for any and every need.

My text: "So I 100% could be doing something wrong but the pocket door between the bunks and the kitchen area isn't working and I'm stuck."

But my mind was screaming, "You're stuck in Dolly Parton's bedroom surrounded by her clothes, her wigs and the creative air she breathed to make the music you love."

Secretly, I was hoping they'd never come let me out. "I live here now," I told myself and crashed onto the bed filled with more throw pillows than a Pottery Barn. I also took the time to crawl into one of the guest bunks to see how tight they actually were — they're pretty tight, y'all.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

Sadly (and hysterically), I was eventually freed from my glamorous entrapment and spent my afternoon at Dollywood before heading back for the multicourse dinner that was included with my stay.

With a little bit of time to kill before dinner, I hung out in the front of the bus taking in all the details when I noticed a group of people had come up to the gate to take photos of the bus — and then another group. Over the course of an hour, I spotted people checking out the bus from every angle. Thankfully, with the super-tinted windows, they couldn't see me, but it was wild to realize that Dolly probably experiences this zoo-like experience everywhere she goes.

Dining like Dolly

That night, my co-worker Colby, a fellow Dolly fanatic who was staying in a room at the resort, and I were treated to one of the most magical dinners I've ever experienced — and I once ate at all three Michelin-starred restaurants at the Four Seasons Hong Kong in one night .

The dinner was prepared by Dollywood's executive chef, Mark Galvin, who'd brought a grill to the bus pad. The dinner was a multicourse feast that included a wine pairing with each course. An ultrafriendly server also joined in on the fun, transforming the table on the bus into a scene from an award-winning restaurant complete with table settings.

Before our visit we were asked about dietary restrictions and Galvin was more than excited to learn that we had none. And while you might expect this meal would be primarily country-fried classics, that wasn't the case.

Instead, a pineapple stuffed with grilled shrimp and red-pepper skewers and a pineapple-onion salsa made its way through the doors of the bus.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

Then there was a burrata salad with crispy bacon, a juicy steak with mashed potatoes and bundled asparagus, and even an entire grilled fish dish. Galvin even works with a special purveyor to source edible flowers to use as garnish — and you can bet your bottom dollar we ate those, too.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

For dessert, as if our stomachs could handle one more bite, there was a trio of sweets including Dolly's own banana pudding (my favorite!), a praline and creme brulee. I thought of it as a sugary ode to Dolly's "Trio" album made alongside country stars Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt — or maybe that was just the sixth glass of wine talking.

Dolly may not have been there, but eating her food, from her chef, at her table, was good enough for me.

After dinner that night, when I was all by myself, I closed all the pocket doors, turned down the air conditioning on the in-room thermostat (there are actually multiple units throughout the bus) and pulled back the covers to crawl into bed. That's when I remembered the decorative pillows weren't for sleeping on and that real pillows were stowed away in a bright pink ottoman on the side of the room.

I didn't think to ask if turndown service was an option, but I suspect another text to my concierge on duty could've made that happen.

Admittedly, crawling into Dolly's bed was a very peculiar experience. It was incredible — and incredibly bizarre — that I was alone in a celebrity's motorhome parked off the main lot of a resort in the Smoky Mountains. But it was also entirely comfortable and homey, though it might've been a little tight had I been sharing the bed with someone else.

Thankfully, I was alone with my thoughts and drifted away comfortably to the quiet hum of the stationary bus.

Out and about

Though it was tough to leave the bus, I had come all this way, so I made two trips to Dollywood during my stay. I could go on about how much I love the park, especially the wild roller coasters that use the mountains as leverage for bigger, scarier drops, but we have a handy Dollywood guide that can answer all of your questions .

One benefit of staying at the resort, though, is that you get a wristband that lets you skip the line for eight rides a day. There's also a shuttle that goes back and forth between the park and the resort lobby every 20 minutes. The park is also the best place to pick up Dolly souvenirs. For pet owners like me, it carries the entire line of Doggy Parton wigs, pink cowgirl hats, dresses and squeaky microphones, which I purchased for my corgi, Splenda.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

Colby and I also ventured out to Dolly's Stampede for a wild dinner show where we ate whole chickens with our bare hands while watching trick horse riders. During the show, one side of the audience competes with the other in a series of events and, at one point, I found myself in the middle of it all, racing buckets of water to strangers on my team.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

The kitsch level was turned all the way up, but we still had a nice time — as you can see from the commemorative photo I bought as a souvenir.

'I'll Never Say Goodbye'

After 48 hours of living my life like Dolly, I can say that no, it didn't go to my head.

Mom, if you're reading this, you don't have to ground me.

Instead, the experience left me feeling humbled and closer to Dolly than ever before. For someone with so much influence and prestige, it's clear her kindness and positive energy permeate every corner of her resort. And, for someone who could easily take private jets between one city and the next, it was fascinating to see how she built a home on wheels, thinking through every detail to make it a safe and creative space to live her life in.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

The last night, as I crashed in her bed, I thought about my own life and how, despite all my connections to Dolly, I never actually saw her perform live until I moved to New York City to chase a dream of writing about travel, instead of writing songs.

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

That show was filled with all types of people, from my fellow Dolly-loving gays to drag queens, cowboys, kids and older people — a true representation of all walks of life and all the people inspired by her. After that show, she probably walked off stage and walked up the steps of the bus to find respite in the very room — the very bed — I was in right then.

The bus would have pulled out and off to the next show, another stop in her incredible dream. I took the subway chasing the next stop in mine.

You Can Spend the Night in Dolly Parton's Former Tour Bus

“I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus.”

pictures of dolly parton's tour bus

One of the coolest Dolly Parton attractions out there has parked itself in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and for a pretty penny, you can experience it for yourself. The country legend's former tour bus, now known as Suite 1986 at Dollywood DreamMore Resort & Spa, is taking reservations. That's right y'all, Parton's longtime tour bus, the "Gypsy Wagon," has been transformed into the ultimate hotel suite for two.

"(I) decided to retire it because I wasn't touring that much anymore and it just was sitting there," Parton told the Knoxville News Sentinel . "And I thought this could be put to really good use."

The 45-foot Prevost bus was the legendary singer's home away from home as she trekked 360,000 miles across the country between 2008 and 2022. It's also where she penned dozens of songs and worked on a number of hit projects.

"I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling; I'm a true gypsy at heart," Parton said in a press release.

What Is Dolly Parton's Tour Bus Like?

It was important to the singer, who does not enjoy flying, that the bus was comfortable and could accommodate long trips. As such, her home on wheels includes a couch, kitchen, dining table, two separate toilets, a tub, a large bedroom, and heaps of customizations. Parton had the bus modified to include a full-size refrigerator, electric doors, and a wig cabinet . The walls feature murals depicting life on the road and the bedroom is decked out in floor-to-ceiling pink and purple decor.

"Dolly almost always stayed in her bus instead of a hotel room, as she preferred to have her own space, food and belongings," a Dollywood news release notes.

How Much Does It Cost?

The price tag matches the one-of-a-kind stay. The Suite 1986 Tour Bus Experience is a two-night minimum and starts at $10,000 (an additional resort room that sleeps four is included in the package). In true Dolly fashion, a portion of the proceeds from every stay will be donated to the Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. You'll get to feel like you've immersed yourself in Dolly Parton's life and know that you're giving to a good cause.

"If you've got money—and a lot of people do—they just want to experience that," Parton said.

Dolly Parton’s Tour Bus: Look Inside

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

"These unique paintings of wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls paint the interpretation of life on the road for the singer," the press release reads.

Parton's home away from home includes a plethora of design details that perfectly encapsulate who she is. Our only question now is: When do we get to stay?

Everything You Can Eat and Drink on Dolly Parton’s Tour Bus

Stay overnight on the country music legend’s tour bus and feast on her favorite foods.

Regan is a freelance journalist with 10 years of experience writing about food, drinks, travel, and culture.

“Does Dolly like the banana pudding?”

I’m on the phone with Nathaniel, one of the concierges from Dollywood ’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee , and he’s walking me through the menu options for a personalized dinner that I'll be eating on her tour bus.

The classic menu features dishes like bacon-wrapped shrimp and mesquite-smoked brisket, and I notice three different dessert options. While they all sound appealing, I really just want to know what Dolly likes. I’m assured she does, in fact, love the banana pudding . And what’s good enough for Dolly is good enough for me.

The five-course dinner is included in a stay on Suite 1986 , otherwise known as Dolly Parton’s tour bus. The superstar and philanthropist spent over a decade crossing North America on the custom Prevost tour bus, en route to concerts and awards shows. The bus is outfitted with a bedazzled bedroom (complete with a hand-painted vanity, microwave, and wig closet) and a kitchen with a full-sized fridge that required the removal of the bus’s front window to install.

The tour bus was retired and permanently docked in the same spot it was parked whenever Parton would visit DreamMore. Now superfans can book the Dolly Tour Bus Experience. Starting at $10,000, it includes two nights on the bus for two guests, a suite inside the resort for up to four additional people, a welcome amenity, plenty of fun swag (plush bathrobes, signature Dolly perfume), and a highly-customized private dinner cooked by the resort’s chef, Tiffany Hicks. (Proceeds are donated to Parton’s Dollywood Foundation.)

RELATED : I Tried to Eat Everything at Dollywood in One Day

Days before arriving for your stay, a concierge calls to hammer out the dinner menu so it’s exactly what you want. While the standard menu is full of Dolly’s favorites like biscuits, smoked ribs slathered in Cola barbecue sauce, and that banana pudding, Hicks says guests can choose their own adventure.

“We'll tailor it to you — your preferences, the flavors you like,” says the chef. “If you want something else, by all means, we're here to help you enjoy. That's what Dolly gets — whatever she wants.” It’s just part of an experience that, for a few magical, thrilling days, channels the country music legend’s life.

The first thing I notice when we step onto the bus — besides the walls splashed in hand-painted murals of travelers and crystal balls, and the glossy faux-wood kitchen table where I imagine Parton drinking her morning coffee — is a cheese board. It’s overflowing with cheddar and blue cheese and fruit. Apparently, it’s the same spread the singer gets whenever she arrives at DreamMore. (According to the staff, she loves cheese, which is just one of the many things that makes the icon so relatable.) The full-sized fridge is filled with bottles of water, coke, and root beer, too.

RELATED : Dolly Parton's Popular Ice Cream Flavor Is Coming Back

While you’re staying on the bus, you can visit Dollywood and seek out some of the theme park’s most popular treats , including the funnel cake and iced cinnamon bread. But the made-to-order dinner, each course named for one of Parton’s songs or albums and paired with wine, is only available for Suite 1986 guests.

When it’s time for our dinner, we make our way to the Song & Hearth restaurant inside the hotel, and are led to a cozy banquet in a secluded section of the dining room. On each place setting is a rock imprinted with words like “blessed” and “grateful” along with wooden spoons tied with a recipe for Dolly’s famous Stone Soup as a souvenir.

Chef Tiffany greets us and explains the first course: a cup of duck confit and dumpling soup, with a rich, turmeric-laced broth. It’s a riff on the Southern staple chicken and dumplings. “Turmeric is good for the soul,” Hicks says. “At least that’s what my great-grandma told me.”

RELATED : Dolly Parton Is Releasing Her Own Cake Mixes with Duncan Hines

Next up is a plate of cheddar biscuits sitting alongside a ramekin of roasted garlic and rosemary-whipped butter. (Biscuits are another Dolly favorite.) There’s fresh burrata with tomatoes that the chef cooks with brown sugar and finishes with a drizzle of balsamic reduced with honey.

Course three is bacon-wrapped shrimp and andouille sausage over yellow grits that the chef makes with smoked Gouda. And the fourth and final savory course is a feast unto itself. The procession of mains include pan-seared catfish, crispy fried chicken, brisket, slow-smoked for 11 hours, pulled pork that’s been smoked for 12 hours, and — the star of the show — five-hour smoked ribs coated in Coca-Cola barbecue sauce. They’re Dolly’s favorite, and now they’re my favorite, too.

Alongside the buffet of entrées (meant, somehow, for just two adult humans), we’re presented with a secondary procession of sides: made-from-scratch mashed potatoes and collard greens with ham, bacon, and brown sugar “to sweeten your future,” according to the chef. Finally, there’s the mac and cheese, blended with smoked Gouda, Monterey Jack, cheddar, and Cotija, “because it’s salty,” says Hicks.

The last course is a Southern sweet tooth’s dream. Banana pudding, vanilla bean pastry cream, and crushed Nilla wafers are layered into rustic mason jars that the chef first scents with a smoking vanilla bean. It’s not the only dessert, though — Hick makes mini (OK, not that mini) cast iron pans full of peach cobbler, using her grandmother’s recipe with a secret, aromatic ingredient. They come out hot and doused in salted caramel and vanilla bean ice cream. Finally, there’s a strawberry mille-feuille made by the resort’s pastry chef Cindy Fairbanks. Disks of house-made puff pastry are structured with macerated vanilla bean pastry cream and sprinkled with torn basil for a perfectly-balanced earthy and sweet bite.

RELATED : 29 Essential Southern Recipes

Just when we thought we were finished, one last plate arrives: a heap of salted pecan pralines laced with bourbon that Hicks made just a few hours before. By the time the feast was winding down, I couldn’t taste more than a bite of the banana pudding. But the chef graciously put the mason jar in a to-go bag. The next morning, I tried my luck bringing it through airport security, and — a Dolly Miracle — they let me carry it home on the plane.

Additionally guests’ stay includes a guest room in the resort that sleeps up to four additional guests inside, with a view of Parton’s bus. Dolly Parton has been making a name for herself since the late 1960s. With her golden vocals and loyal fan base, the blonde bombshell found herself in the spotlight of fame quickly. With the release of several hit singles and albums, her career has always had fans begging for tours and travel. Although Dolly loves to travel, she admits flying isn’t her favorite. The only solution? Her glammed-out tour bus.

Inside Dolly’s Road Life

In the summer of 2011, Dolly started a vlog called Dolly Parton Tour TV . The special was 15 episodes long featuring behind the scenes into her tour life. The series showcased Dolly on stage and off stage with personal interviews. The most popular episode from her series was Episode 13: Tour Bus . Fans finally got to see an inside look into Dolly’s “Gypsy Wagon.”

Dolly’s Home Away From Home

Dolly takes us on a tour of her bus explaining her reasoning behind everything that resides inside the gigantic RV. Inside her souped-up ride are a couple of bunk beds that she has for when guests come on board, such as her nieces and nephews. Dolly admits that the back part of the bus is where it becomes her own though.

“The very back of the bus is just custom made for me,” she said.

Dolly gave the low-down of what her special section of the RV holds. She has her own bathroom that has a little bathtub. In her room, she has her TVs, a shelf specifically just for her wigs, and closets for her show clothes. The video shows a close-up into some of the intimate details the country icon has too. With paintings drawn onto the wall and decorated mirrors, Dolly definitely lives a life of luxury on the road!

Dolly’s wardrobe designer, Steve Summers, spoke about the amazing memories the singer has shared on this bus as well.

“This is the bus that she takes to tour all over the United States. It has had some terrific songs written in it. She wrote all the music for the 9 to 5 Musical on this bus and the Backwards Barbie album.”

5 iconic celebrity homes where you can actually live

By Zoey Goto

For fans who wish to get up close and personal with their idols, there may be no better way than to book a stay at their home. While not many of our favourite celebrity homes will likely ever be open to the public, you can in fact drift off to sleep in the tiny pink bed aboard Dolly Parton’s tour bus or rustle up one of Elvis Presley’s favourite fried peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches at his childhood house . These and the other famous homes below are open for visitors, but be sure to follow the rental rulebook, as one of these A-list properties also comes with a superstar landlord attached. Here’s where to check in for the ultimate VIP vacation.

Sleep On Dolly Parton’s Coach Of Many Colours

Inside Dolly Parton’s tour bus.

For over a decade, this 45-foot tour bus, decked out with folksy murals and a cabinet for her sky-high wigs, was the Queen of Country’s beloved home-on-wheels. Having clocked an impressive 360,000 miles on the dashboard touring Parton around the country, the coach finally retired in 2022 and is now available for overnight visits at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Guests can awake in Parton’s diminutive bed, cloaked under a fuchsia velvet throw, before preparing for the day at the star’s vanity table, surrounded by cases of her razzle-dazzle sequined costumes. All has been left as it once was, including a threadbare hole in the carpet: the exact spot where Parton would twirl before the mirror in her spiked Louboutin heels.

The Dolly Suite 1986 experience costs $10,000 for a two-night stay with all profits going to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library charity.

The English multi-award-winning musician Sting still resides at this 16th-century villa, using it as his palatial retreat during the summer months and renting it out during the rest of the year.

Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, have owned the sprawling estate near Florence, which can comfortably sleep up to 50 guests, for over 15 years. Surrounded by rolling olive groves, which the couple personally had a hand in restoring, the property also boasts a serene lake, high-tech recording studio, and a zen yoga centre.

Plan A Great Escape At Harry Houdini’s House

The exterior of the Houdini Estate on Laurel Canyon Drive in Los Angeles.

Ever wondered how the legendary escape artist Harry Houdini mastered some of the greatest illusions of all time, such as making a 10,000-pound elephant disappear or freeing himself from inside a large milk can while submerged in water? These secrets and more might just be revealed to guests at his Los Angeles mansion , complete with mysterious caves and the deep-water tank that the magician used as a testing ground for his thrilling tricks.

Gems of cinematic history are displayed throughout the four-bedroom Houdini estate—which features five acres of whimsical gardens—including props from his death-defying stunts and the iron box that made an appearance in the 1953 biopic Houdini.

A stay here starts at $1,750 per night .

The F. Scott Fitzgerald suite.

F. Scott Fitzgerald may have set his novel Tender Is the Night in the glamorous palm-lined French Riviera, but he actually wrote the bulk of this Jazz Age classic from a charming 1910 Craftsman-style house in Montgomery, Alabama, occasionally glancing out of the window at the elegant magnolia tree rooted in the front yard.

Bibliophiles can now stay in the home where Scott and his wife, Zelda, who was drafting her semi-autobiographical book Save the Waltz at the time, lived from 1931 until 1932. In the upstairs apartment, the original peeling Art Deco leaf wallpaper still hangs, while the ground floor has been converted into a small museum dedicated to the fabled writers.

The Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald suites cost from $90 and $150 per night.

Shake A Leg At Elvis Presley’s Teenage Apartment

Elvis Presley’s former bedroom.

Fans can now stay in an apartment that changed the course of pop culture by visiting the only Elvis Presley residence in the world to offer sleepovers. The King of Rock and Roll lived at Lauderdale Courts in Memphis between the formative ages of 13 to 17, when the pioneering complex was one of the first social housing projects in the US.

This game-changing home offered an impressionable young Presley easy access to the city’s hottest recording studios, music venues, and all-night gospel church services—all of which he soaked up like a thirsty sponge. Narrowly avoiding the wrecking ball in the 1990s, this two-bedroom apartment has since been restored to its mid-century glory, including a vintage record player console and a cast-iron skillet to recreate the rockabilly’s favourite fried sandwiches.

This place costs $250 per night and is only bookable by calling +1 901 523 8662.

The Academy announced on April 25 that Reba McEntire will host the awards show again, making 2024 her 17th year hosting the awards show (but who could be mad about that?). On April 29, ACM dropped even more details about the upcoming show: the first round of performers.

As of April 29, confirmed performers for the ACM Awards include: Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Jelly Roll , Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert , Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, Reba McEntire, and Lainey Wilson . In the two weeks leading up to May 16, additional performers will be announced.

Upon hearing the news, fans jumped in the ACM comments to show support for their favorite performing artists. Of course, some fans begged for other artists to be added to the list, but with some performers still unknown, there is still hope!

Reba is working overtime hosting and performing at the show, and her set will even include brand new music! Reba's army of loyal fans ran to the comments to sing her praises. "You have no idea how happy this makes me!!!! So excited for her to host and perform !!!! and "Reba! I hope it’s a new song from a new album! Please surprise us! Love you!," fans wrote.

Each performer found their own supportive audience of excited fans. "Entertainer 2024" and "👏👏 cannot wait for this show!!!," fans wrote under Lainey Wilson's announcement. "Definitely tuning in for a Kane Brown performance!! 🔥🔥," one fans chimed in in support of Kane Brown. "Rhetty to party 💃," a Thomas Rhett fan quipped. "Her music is awesome and she's such a great live singer 🔥" and "This performance is gonna be fire. 🔥 😉," Miranda Lambert fans joined in. "Long live country music," a CoJo fan wrote.

Already, this year's ACM Awards are shaping up to the show of the season, and won't be one to miss! Fans can stream the 2024 ACM Awards on Prime Video on May 16.
