Haunted Boat tour, save your money. packed in like sardines. food buffet, if that is what you want to call skimpy trays, were nearly impossible to see as was soooo dark. question food safety for nothing held at proper temps. not in spooky cool way, but rather zero lighting. Captain Mark was kinda odd and careless in his presentation about boat. The Narrator was beyond awful. Cheap faux Pirate costume, started off 'haunted tour' by telling very unfortunate story of the two young women who sadly drowned earlier in year, not realizing were close to a dam while kayaking. Extremely poor taste, maudlin. Hope no one on tours knew those ladies-total disrespect in how it was relayed. was expecting tales to be scary, like, a HAUNTED TOUR. nothing even close. costumed woman periodically running amok looking for 'lost rat' or something--seemed random, disconnected addition to poor attempt at haunted theme. view from the boat was nice, as closer to water than other Pgh water tours. Parking situation: told can park for free in gravel lot. last minute less than polite man from Tour snipping at everyone to move cars, were parked in wrong area. okay---how about some signage or not being nasty few minutes before boarding like was customers fault. One bartender for entire 100 plus on board- tho she was quite pleasant, friendly. Tip: owner/management - invest in new Act, dont overcrowd, lighting around food, keep at proper temps. not that would try them again for anything other than water taxi. Yelpers--your money spends anywhere, take your hard earned bucks elsewhere.

Found this way of getting to the park completely by chance while wandering the Strip District and trying to avoid having to walk from there to the game. It cast-off timely, was a quick ride, and was a fun (albeit short) way to get a different view of the city. Bonus points for the bar on the boat and the restroom on board, which is currently being remodeled. If and when I find myself in Pittsburgh again, I'll definitely do this again.

We took this "boat trip" before a Steelers game as part of a package. Packed in way too tight, very uncomfortable and the tables were dirty. Advertised as a 3 hour luxury cruise, when the boat sat at the dock for 2 hours. The food was cold and they did not have enough to accommodate the amount of people. Not worth the money. Don't do it.

I recently bought tickets for the Wine and Cheese Cruise since I'd heard good things about it. I think something must have changed recently. This turned out to be an embarrassing Pittsburgh experience for me and my out of town sister. The boat was old and dirty ("Miss Pittsburgh). The toilet smelled the entire trip and ended up clogging half way thru. It was disgusting. I hardly felt like wine tasting. But, there wasn't any discussion of the cheese or wine.......just pouring of mediocre wine and hunk of cheese appeared in a foil bin with hershey's kisses on top. Dance music was pumped out loudly to top things off. It was far from a classy event. DO NOT spend your money on this unless you want to party and don't care about wine tasting. This company should not have advertised this as a Wine and Cheese Cruise. I want my money back!!!

We booked their 1 1/2 hour cruise from a deal through Groupon. We had so much fun! The parking was free on the street near the river. The sign for the cruise is at the corner of an empty lot. We climbed on board with people heading to the baseball game. They exited to the game after about 10 minutes and we continued cruising the 3 rivers of Pittsburgh. Two gentlemen served as our tour guides. One drove the boat while the other pointed out sites and told about the history of Pittsburgh. They were awesome! They even stopped at the Point State Park Fountain (see photo). There was a bachelorette party on board and couples and kids. They served alcohol and soft drinks. We had plenty of room to relax even though it was pretty full. I thought it was well worth it and would recommend this for anyone visiting Pittsburgh!

Our family maintained a cheerful and forgiving attitude, until the bartender short-changed us. The "Fantasy" boat is a small family-run business that is still finding its way. The six of us loved the idea of what they're trying to do, but the execution is pretty rough at this point. The safety lecture warned us to be careful with the bathroom and not to go for seconds on the buffet. We all understood why they wanted to make this announcement, but it raised questions right away: What kind of crowd do they normally deal with? How tight is this operation? The buffet was rice, green beans, and chicken piccata. OK, but nothing special. Warm, but not hot. There was a older woman with spikey blonde hair who hovered around the end of the line like a prison matron. I can understand wanting to keep an eye on people, but you can do it subtly. To the customer, it's very insulting when a business assumes you're going to try to cheat them. The cookies and brownies came out ten minutes later. Every table sent up a runner to grab a plate right away. They had all seen every grain of the buffet disappear, and they weren't going to miss out. You could feel the crowd's mood was less than satisfied. And then one of the bathrooms clogged. We had been warned, and it wasn't a big deal, since most of the crowd left the boat for the start of the Steelers game. Which is when the older woman with black hair came around and yelled "Gimme your wristbands!" What? "I need your wristbands right now! There's no free drinks after the start of the game." Again, this assumes that the customer is going to try to cheat them. As an alternative, you could subtly ask to see wristbands at the bar. We already knew that the free drinks ended when the game started. No normal person thinks: in a crowd of only 30 people, the bartender might somehow not remember me from the past three hours and I might totally score a canned beer. Our family knew that the cutoff was kickoff, but not everybody on staff knew it. Between picking up the second group of passengers and the start of the game, the spikey haired matron had cut my wife off while she was ordering at the bar- "No more drinks for you!" What? This instigated a five minute game of Telephone, as each staff member had to go around and get their story straight on what the rules of the afternoon were. Six people were standing in line waiting to order while the bar shut down for this emergency. During the game, things were pretty good. We enjoyed sitting and watching the game. The clogged bathroom was only causing a short wait. We were all getting really hungry and could have used some popcorn or something, but that wasn't part of the package so we weren't complaining. Just a nice idea for risk mitigation if your customers have been drinking for hours. I went for two beers during the fourth quarter and that's when the camel's back was broken. I pulled two fives out of my pocket while I was waiting in line. (I know they were two fives because I was being obsessive-compulsive and re-arranging all the bills so they were flat, in order of value and facing the same way.) I gave Emily the two bills and she said "Six dollars. Thank you." I stood there and waited for change and she asked "What? Need something else?" Uh, my change. "You gave me a five and a one." I just stared at her. I couldn't believe it. This was the absolute capper of disrespectful behavior by the crew. All of the crew's poor choices during the afternoon were caused by stress and inexperience. The crew was poorly informed and that's no problem. The crew lacked personal skills and that's no problem. But to make a choice to do the wrong thing is inexcusable. The passengers spent the afternoon being suspected of ill intent, and then it was a crew member who consciously decided to do a little cheating. Unbelievable. And kind of sad. I smiled politely, gave Emily a two dollar tip for two drinks and just rose above the situation. The game ended, and now the bathrooms lines were getting worse. The spikey matron opened the door for each person and checked the bathroom after each person left. Held it open for everybody in the dining area to know how well you had done your business. While waiting in line, I listened to other customers complaining about the overall experience. I also listened to another game of Telephone as the crew tried to figure out when the last call was supposed to be. This confusion was nothing compared to the confusion when a passenger slipped on the dock at the end of the ride. So much yelling, so much stress. Half of our family waited in the freezing cold while the other half of the family was forbidden to leave the boat until everything was under control. Again: we love the idea of this service. We want this family to revitalize the waterfront. The boat and views were great, the captain was friendly and the operation is well-intentioned. The crew of the "Fantasy" was just in over their heads on this afternoon.

I went on the Pittsburgh Haunted Cruise this past Friday. The weather forecast was predicting strong winds an heavy downpour! Great setting for a haunted cruise right? Well, My friends an I got there at 8:05pm. The cruise was sold out, and the boat filled up fast. We sat down on the main deck. It was so dark that you could not see anything around you. I mean dark. I realize this is supposed to be spooky! but I couldn't find the appetizers! ( if you want to call them that) they put out bags of chips with a plate of chip dip , a platter of cookies that looked and tasted like leftovers from someone's wedding, and last came the chicken wings! nothing nice to say about that either. Well, now I was at least hoping for a good storyteller keeping me enchanted about all the great ghost stories us Pittsburghers grew up on. !! Well I cannot begin to tell you how ridiculous this guy was! He had this over dramatized campy voice that was laughable! I couldn't even understand most of what he was saying!! And I didn't recognize any of the stories about Pittsburgh! Add all this to the fact that we were all dying of heat exhaustion! Now I don't normally complain about to much, but if I can save someone from wasting time and money then I hope you read this before you take one of these cruises from Pittsburgh Luxury Cruises

We've been using the Miss Pittsburgh to go to and fro from the Pirate games for three years now, and we just love the service. No hassles parking, and a nice relaxing trip back after the game. The worst of the traffic is cleared out and its smooth sailing all the way home.

I recently used Pittsburgh Water Limo for two last minute video shoots. Captain Mark was very accommodating for our last minute needs and early morning shoots (5am and 6am). He was a pleasure to work with, met the video needs, and only billed me by the 15-minute mark. I recommend using Pittsburgh Water Limo for your next water taxi service!

PITTSBURGH LUXURY CRUISES: All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (with Photos)

See inside a new ultra-luxury river cruise line that's charging up to $59,520 per person

  • Newcomer Riverside Luxury Cruises wants to break into the growing river cruise market.
  • The ultra-luxury cruise line  operates former Crystal ships in popular European rivers like the Danube.
  • Riverside's 2024 cruises start at $1,055 per person for four days.

Insider Today

A new ultra-luxury cruise line wants to be the swankiest travel-by-river vacation option.

To do so, it's enticing cruisers with truffle-infused butter, $320-per-person dinners, and butlers that can be beckoned with a simple WhatsApp message.

Affluent travelers , meet Riverside Luxury Cruises.

The budding company first set sail in March 2023. With a year of service under its belt, its three ships are now sailing some of Europe's most popular rivers — starting at more than $260 per person per day.

Riverside is operated by Seaside Collection, a European hotelier.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

The firm had its sights set on a river cruise venture since 2018, Jen Halboth, CEO of Riverside Luxury Cruises, told Business Insider.

Ironically, COVID-19 was the reason it got into the business.

Crystal Cruises declared bankruptcy in early 2022 amid the pandemic. Shortly after, Seaside purchased and updated five of the then-defunct cruise line's ships.

Three of these vessels now make up Riverside's fleet. The other two are being leased to competitor Uniworld River Cruises.

River cruising has become increasingly popular as wealthy travelers gravitate to ultra-luxury small-ship vacations.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

River cruise ships are much smaller than their behemoth ocean-based counterparts, allowing Riverside to sail in waterways like Europe's Rhine, Rhone, Danube, Main, Moselle, and Saône rivers.

Along the way, guests can explore destinations many giant ships can't easily access — like Budapest, Hungary; Frankfurt, Germany; and Amsterdam — sometimes visiting more than one port in a day.

One of Riverside's shortest and cheapest 2024 voyages starts at $1,055 per person for a four-day Danube River cruise from Passau, Germany, to Vienna.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

Alcohol and excursion packages can tack on an extra $75 to $175 per person per night.

Looking to ball out? The most expensive and longest itinerary is $59,521 per person for a three-river, 22-day cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, Hungary, in the most expensive suite with the most inclusive package.

To compare, the cheapest 2024 voyage with all-inclusive luxury competitor Uniworld River Cruises starts at $2,000 per person for an eight-day Danube River sailing.

River cruisers tend to be over the age of 55.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

But the new company is targeting guests 45 years old and older, specifically those who frequent luxury vacations but have yet to try a river cruise.

"New luxury travelers want to be pampered, get off and have an adventure, and come back and be taken care of," the cruise line's CEO said.

"Pampering” they will get.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

Of Riverside's three ships, the 394-foot-long, 74-foot-wide Mozart can accommodate the most guests — up to 162, not including the 82 crew.

Yes, it's larger than Uniworld's ships, which range from 32 to 159 guests. But it's also significantly smaller than Royal Caribbean's new 9,950-person Icon of the Seas ocean vessel.

Like most cruise liners, Riverside's three ships have spas, buffets, and plush lounges and bars.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

During the day, travelers can enjoy lunch at the open-air grill and relax to live music courtesy of Steinway and Bösendorfer pianos, no less.

At night, they can dine on a seven-course meal at the 295 euros ($320) per-person Vintage Room.

Riverside’s ships have up to 5 restaurants. Vintage Room is the only specialty option.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

The cost to dine includes a wine pairing and plates like veal with truffle and chanterelle mushrooms and "surf and turf" with beef sirloin and scallops.

But don't expect a lackluster, rushed meal at the other complimentary options: "This is not a churn-and-burn," the company's CEO said of the ships' Waterside restaurants. "You come in for fine dining."

Infused, whipped butter is apparently one of Riverside's hottest commodities.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

Sometimes, it has chiles. Other times, it's infused with citrus. If you're lucky, you'll get one with truffles.

"People were raving about our butter," Halboth said. "Everyone's waiting to see what butter they'll get at dinner each night."

Need to sleep off all that dairy? You're in luck. Every cabin has a king bed.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

Riverside's suites range from 194 to 883 square-feet. These high-end cabins include butler service, stocked mini-bars, and espresso machines.

Some suites also have double-sink vanities and walk-in closets, a hallmark of an ultra-luxury cruise vessel .

Does Riverside’s more than $260 per person, per day fare seem reasonable now?

pittsburgh luxury cruises

If yes, book soon. It'll only get more expensive from here.

These fares don't offset the amount Riverside is spending on amenities like the upscale food, according to Halboth. To make up for these expenditures, the cruise line plans to raise its prices gradually over the next two years.

The company's CEO said bookings have been 'a little lighter' since the start of 2024.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

But the back half of the year is "filling up" thanks to Americans: About 70 to 80% of its guests are from North America, the company said.

Riverside will operate its Mozart, Ravel, and Debussy ships for three years as it 'hones the brand,' Halboth said.

pittsburgh luxury cruises

The cruise line's two additional vessels would join its fleet in the next few years.

Given the growing popularity of river cruises , it's a good time for companies like Riverside to start expanding.

However, it could face plenty of incoming competition.

Jamie Loizou, the UK managing director of luxury river cruise line AmaWaterways, is forecasting 2024 as a "pivotal" year for the river cruise industry, noting that 15 new river-based vessels are expected to launch this year, Cruise Critic reported .
