This sacred temple marks the spot where Siddhartha attained enlightenment while meditating under the Bodhi Tree and later became Gautam Buddha. Appreciate the temple's beautiful architecture and design. The temple is adorned with historical inscriptions and intricate carvings narrating the tales of Buddha's enlightenment. Close to the Mahabodhi Temple lies the Bodhi Tree under which Buddha meditated for years. The Bodhi Tree symbolizes knowledge, spiritual awakening, and enlightenment. Happily, the tour guide did not push us towards gift shops or the like, though he did end the tour at a private charity school for orphans where we were expected to make a donation. Also the taxi was hit by a scooter (? Not sure because we didn’t see, only heard, the collision.) and the guide and driver spent some time with the scooter and police officer working things out. Nalanda was destroyed three times but was rebuilt only twice. It was destroyed by an army of the Mamluk Dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate under Bakhtiyar Khalji. Nalanda is now a notable tourist destination and a part of the Buddhist tourism circuit.

Bodh Gaya is a Buddhist religious site and place of pilgrimage associated with the Mahabodhi Temple in Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is famous as it is the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment (Pali: bodhi) under what became known as the Bodhi Tree.
