We were picked up on time at the airport in Arusha at the very beginning and had perfect service from then on. We were together with Jerome D. Swai and the driver Cypiars which both can only be recommended. Jerome cooks wonderful food!!! We did a trip in tents, was just great the feeling to be so close to the wild nature. Witnessing the Great Migration firsthand was a dream come true as we watched thousands of wildebeests and zebras thunder across the plains. Our lodge perched on the edge of the Serengeti provided uninterrupted views of the vast savannah and unforgettable sunsets.Serena lodges are super ! Descending into the Ngorongoro Crater felt like entering a lost world teeming with wildlife. We marveled at the sheer abundance of animals in this natural amphitheater, from graceful gazelles to mighty rhinos. The grand finale awaited us in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Mara River crossings were the highlight of our safari, as we held our breath watching the dramatic spectacle unfold before our eyes. Our expert guide John , ensured we had front-row seats to nature's greatest show. Each evening, we gathered around the campfire under the starlit sky, sharing stories of the day's adventures and listening to the sounds of the African night. The hospitality of the lodge staff made us feel like family, and the delicious cuisine was a delightful surprise. As we bid farewell to Kenya and Tanzania, we carried with us memories that will last a lifetime. This safari exceeded all expectations, thanks to the impeccable planning and personalized service. Day 1 Nairobi

Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer is included.

Day 2 Nairobi/Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart early for Lake Nakuru, known for harbouring flocks of pink flamingos and a rich variety of bird species. Arrive at our safari lodge inside Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch, and seek out the resident rhinos on a late afternoon wildlife drive.

Meals included:

Day 3 lake nakuru national park.

Set out on morning and afternoon safaris through the picturesque park, searching for buffalo, impalas, lions, and more; and drive along the salty shores of Lake Nakuru to discover a mind-boggling variety of birds.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru National Park/Lake Naivasha

This morning attend a talk given by a representative of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)—a government institution dedicated to managing the country’s wildlife—about the issues surrounding poaching and wildlife conservation. Later head south through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha, a large freshwater lake surrounded by grassy banks and olive trees. Cruise the lake on a boat, watching for hippos and buffalo; and peer through your binoculars to spot lovebirds, ibis, and the African fish eagle. Step ashore at Crescent Island—a peaceful wildlife sanctuary located in the middle of the lake— and enjoy a guided stroll in search of wildebeest, zebras, and giraffes.

Day 5 lake naivasha/masai mara.

Travel to the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve and settle into our comfortable tented camp, located in the heart of the reserve. Head out for an afternoon safari through vast, acacia-dotted plains, driving past throngs of wildebeest, zebra, and giraffes; and keep an eye out for lions, elephants, and the rest of the African “big five.” In the evening, relax at the camp and enjoy scenic views of the rolling plains.

Day 6 Masai Mara

Venture out on an early morning safari to track the animals that traversed the savanna during the night. View ungulates like Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, topi and eland antelopes—as well as their stealthy predators—at one of their most active times of the day. Continue your exploration on a late afternoon safari, discovering the timeless landscapes of Masai Mara.

Day 7 Masai Mara/Nairobi

Witness a breathtaking sunrise over the savanna during your final safari in Masai Mara, and head back to Nairobi. Stop en route at Café Ubuntu, a G Adventures–supported Planeterra project that trains and employs local women and mothers of children with disabilities. Café Ubuntu is an oasis with delicious organic food, hospitable staff, and a relaxing atmosphere based in Maai Mahiu. It is a beacon for tourists who drive through the area each year on their way to the famous Maasai Mara conservancy. Learn about how the initiative empowers the community, visit the craft centre to meet some of the women who create the wares sold there, and then sit down for a delicious farm-to-table lunch. Options range from breakfast tacos, soups, and salads, to freshly made pizzas, curry dishes, and burritos.

Day 8 Nairobi/Arusha

Fly to Arusha, gateway to the Serengeti and the northern parks of Tanzania, and settle into your lodge.

Day 9 Arusha/Lake Manyara National Park

This morning, make your way to Mto wa Mbu village, a vibrant settlement of Tanzania’s diverse tribal groups. Take a guided walk through the village, visiting the local market and meeting artisans in their workshops; then sit down for a traditional lunch with a local family. Continue to the Rift Valley escarpment and settle into our safari camp, located at the edge of Lake Manyara National Park. Set out on our first safari drive to discover East Africa’s legendary wildlife, searching for lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, and more.

Day 10 Lake Manyara National Park/Serengeti National Park

Travel through the breathtaking Rift Valley en route to our safari camp in Serengeti National Park. Enjoy a stop along the way at the Olduvai Gorge Museum and Visitor’s Centre—located near the site where National Geographic archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey discovered early hominid fossils and stone tools in 1960. From here, continue to the world-famous Serengeti National Park and head out on a late afternoon safari drive across the Serengeti Plain, keeping an eye out for grazing giraffes, lounging lions, and herds of antelope in the golden light.

Day 11 Serengeti National Park

Immerse yourself in the splendor of the Serengeti, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. Discover the park’s iconic creatures when you set out in a 4x4 on morning and afternoon safaris through the golden grasslands. With luck, spot all of Africa’s “big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Later, visit the Serengeti Wildlife Research Centre, and enjoy a talk by one of the visiting researchers.

Day 12 Serengeti National Park/Ngorongoro

Depart from the Serengeti early and travel across the vast savanna to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Spanning more than 20 kilometres in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest non-flooded caldera in the world and is inhabited by some 25,000 animals. Set out on a full-day safari drive into the Ngorongoro Crater and observe the biodiversity and resident wild animals in this incredibly important location to the conservation and protection of global wildlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the world’s largest caldera surrounded by Ngorongoro’s flora and fauna. Then, travel to our accommodations in Pembeni for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay in a pristine wilderness setting.

Day 13 Ngorongoro/Arusha

Leave Ngorongoro behind this morning and travel from our lodge in Pembeni to a Maasai village. Here, we learn about the G Adventures–supported Clean Cookstoves Project, dedicated to providing clean-burning cookstoves to Maasai communities throughout Tanzania. Enjoy a presentation by a Maasai woman on the impact of the project, and take a guided tour of the village, visiting traditional homes or bomas and helping build a new stove. Continue to Arusha stopping en route for lunch. Spend the remainder of the day in the safari capital city of Tanzania, at your own leisure.

This ten-day safari tour has been designed to balance your time between the natural wonders and wildlife of these two East African countries. Not many can say they’ve been to the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. But soon you will!

What’s Cool About These Parks?

Starting in Nairobi you’ll pass the Rift Valley arriving at charming Lake Nakuru National Park , with its beautiful acacia forests, waterfalls, and the lovely lake itself. Look for both Black and White rhinos here and possibly lion and leopard.

Then we’re off to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, home to dense concentrations of big cats, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, and dozens more species. This is the spot where you can see the Great Migration of wildebeests, zebra, and gazelle pour into the park on their annual trek.

Those thousands of herding grazers are coming across the Tanzanian border from Serengeti National Park, our next stop. The immense treeless savannahs here hold more than 3,000 lions. We’ll be tracking for them along with leopard, rhino, buffalo, elephant, eland, impala, and warthog.

We next adventure to one of the most unique spots on the planet, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera – Ngorongoro Crater . Descending into this blue/green world we’ll be tracking the big cats and all of Africa’s “Big Five”. Then we continue to the unusual Tarangire National Park , the site of bizarre baobab trees, huge termite mounds, and lots of elephants.

Speaking of the great tuskers, we’ll now cross back into Kenya, arriving at Amboseli National Park , known for its guaranteed sightings of great elephant families. You’ll see them marching before the imposing backdrop of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro . An amazing finale to your ten-day, six-park, two-country excursion safari!

Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park

3 hour drive.

7:30 am – Is your safari gear packed and ready to go? Get ready for 10 full days of wildlife action! Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will come by in a private 4 x 4 Land cruiser Jeep.

Hop in and we’re off through the Great Rift Valley, with views of its dramatic escarpment. We’ll arrive at Lake Nakuru Park in the late morning and take in the lake and its surrounding acacia forests.

The park is a delightful blend of water birds (sometimes flamingoes!) and also rhinos at a special sanctuary here. But also look for lions, zebra, giraffe, warthog, and many other species.

Come evening, we’ll retire to our safari lodge or tented camp to relax, enjoy dinner and reflect on our journey’s first day.

Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara

6 - 7 hour drive.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’re on safari time so let’s be up early for a game drive around the park to watch the animals and the birdlife emerge into the soft light of the new day.

We’ll breakfast and proceed to the Masai Mara, making rest and scenic stops along our way.

Arriving at the great Mara, you can check in at your new accommodation to freshen up… or just head out on your first of many game drives on the park’s pretty rolling hills.

Adorning the landscape, you can’t miss Africa’s special acacia trees, adding still more texture to this amazing park. You won’t have to look far or long before spotting some of the park’s voluminous wildlife. Over 95 species of mammals populate these Mara lands.

Toward late afternoon, you might be treated to one of the park’s glorious sunsets and you’ll know you have arrived at a very special place. We’ll head back to our Mara accommodation for a relaxing evening.

Full Day at the Masai Mara

We’ll head out early on this day of unlimited game drives. The Masai Mara is known for its many prides of lions, plus cheetah, buffalo, antelope, hyena and so much more.

To maximize our time on the savannah we’ll take along a picnic lunch and perhaps enjoy it down at the Mara River, the site of the crossing of wildebeests and zebra, flowing in from neighboring Serengeti. This is a dramatic spot where predators meet grazers, so we’ll look for crocodiles down in the river as well as all sorts of big cats.

Adding new dimensions to your safari, take advantage of two optional activities: A visit to a nearby Maasai village will broaden your cultural horizons as you meet these indigenous people and learn about their lifestyle.

For a special one-of-a-kind treat, sign up for the optional hot air balloon safari over the park. You’ll float up at dawn as the park comes alive with all its wonders lighting up beneath you in the new day. An unforgettable safari moment!

We’ll spend the evening at our Mara accommodation, enjoying a delicious meal while swapping stories of the day.

Masai Mara – Serengeti Game Reserve

6 hour drive.

Today our safari goes international, crossing the border into Tanzania at the town of Isebania.

Part of the same ecosystem as the Masai Mara, the Serengeti features a different look, its vast plains being treeless. But it offers as rich an array of wildlife, perhaps even more lions.

We’ll arrive in time for an afternoon game drive to better understand the look, feel, and “vibe” of the Serengeti. This is where the millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle, calve before heading on to the Masai Mara.

We’ll head to our Serengeti lodge or tented camp for relaxation and dinner.

Full Day Serengeti Game Reserve

This will be a great day of exploration as we travel over the immense tract of the Serengeti, spotting for lion, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, eland, klipspringer, gazelle, warthog, and even hippo!

As always, you set the pace of your safari – opt for morning, afternoon, or full-day game viewing. The choice is yours.

Depending on the season (January/February), you may see great numbers of wildebeests and zebras calving. In the following months, the young will be raised in time for the annual Great Migration , across to the Masai Mara, from July to October.

This evening, we’ll relax and swap stories at our Serengeti accommodation.

Serengeti Game Reserve – Ngorongoro Crater

3 – 4 hour drive.

An exciting day awaits! We’ll be up early to enjoy another game drive through the Serengeti, as we exit the reserve and head to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world.

Hold on, as our 4 x 4 takes us down the steep crater walls, into this magical expanse of green landscapes holding every sort of wildlife, from lions to pink flamingoes.

We’ll enjoy lunch, perhaps watching hippos at one of the park’s lakes as we keep an eye out for rhino, buffalo, elephant, and of course, the big cats.

Toward late afternoon, we’ll head back up to the edge of the caldera in time to catch one of Africa’s signature attractions – a magnificent sunset lighting up the crater’s rim.

And then we’re off to our Ngorongoro safari lodge or tented camp to settle in for dinner and rest.

Ngorongoro Crater -Tarangire Park

Remember last night’s spectacular sunset? Let’s get up in time to catch an equally awesome sunrise at the crater’s rim!

And now we’re off to Tarangire National Park , a small but quite beautiful reserve. We’ll take an afternoon game drive looking for the park’s signature massive elephant herds. Tarangire is also known for its wildlife migration where over 250,000 animals enter the park. 

We’ll spend the evening at our Tarangire accommodation.

Tarangire Park – Amboseli Park

5 -6 hour drive.

As always on safari, we’ll be up with the birds to enjoy another game drive through the park.

After breakfast, we’ll head out to our final park, Amboseli, crossing back into Kenya at the border town of Namanga.

Amboseli is Kenya’s second most popular park, framed by the snow-capped majesty of Mt. Kilimanjaro and home to unlimited herds of great elephants. Their numbers are so constant you are guaranteed to see them parading to and fro.

Come late afternoon, the typical cloud covering obscuring Kilimanjaro’s summit may dissipate, revealing the mountain’s breathtaking peak.

We will spend our 8 th Safari evening at our Amboseli lodge or tented camp.

Full Day at Amboseli Park

The park is especially attractive in the early morning so let’s take advantage of the day and head out for our first game drive.

Of course, we’ll be looking for elephants but the park may also present us with sightings of lions, cheetah, buffalo, wildebeest, gazelle, monkeys, and many rare birds.

We’ll stop at Observation Hill, where we can take in the many varieties of landscapes and wildlife in all directions.

If we’re lucky we’ll catch another glimpse of Kilimajaro’s snowy peak toward the evening.

And here on our last safari night we’ll relax and dine at our Amboseli accommodation.

Amboseli Park – Nairobi

4 hour drive.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

By now as an experienced safari-goer, you know the drill: We’ll be up early for a pre-breakfast game drive looking for elephants, lions, gazelle, antelope, and more.

We’ll stock up on breakfast before taking our final game drive through the park and head off to Nairobi.

En route, we’ll make stops for lunch and take in the scenic vistas.

After breakfast you will travel from the Tarangire Area to the Lake Manyara National Park. The park is known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests and grassy plains. A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos and many more waterfowls. The park is also home to giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas and groups of noisy monkeys and baboons. After an extensive game drive, you will travel to Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands. After your arrival, there might be time for an optional walk in the coffee plantations to learn more about coffee production. If you travel during the Great Migration season (between late July to September), you might be lucky to witness the herds crossing the area. This is an ecosystem of vast grasslands prowled by cheetah, peppered with acacia thickets in which leopards lurk, and divided by the Mara, Sand and Talek rivers.

The Masai Mara is a big cat territory, with healthy populations of lion, leopard and cheetah. There are elephant, buffalo and rhino, completing the Big 5, plus nearly 500 recorded bird species to spot. You will enjoy some amazing wildlife viewing, and delicious meals.

Yes, visas are required for each country, depending on your country of origin.

What safari vehicles are used during the safari in Kenya & Tanzania?

We use a custom-built 4WD Toyota Land Cruiser for our safaris. The vehicles take up to 6 clients in 3 rows of seating (guaranteed window seat for all) with a pop-up roof, which can be raised for excellent wildlife viewing. The pop-up roof offer excellent photography opportunities and also provides shade while enjoying your safari. Our vehicles are serviced and maintained to a very high standard before and after every safari to ensure optimal comfort during your journey.

Do I use the same safari guide in Kenya and Tanzania?

No, we get you the best guides for each country. You will change vehicles and guides at the borders, either the Isebania border from Masai Mara or the Namanga border from Amboseli National Park. The driver change will occur after the immigration process.

What currency can I use for both countries?

Tanzania and Kenya each have their local currencies, Tanzanian and Kenyan shillings. You can use USD dollars which is acceptable in both countries too.

It’s also important to take precautions to prevent illnesses such as malaria, which is prevalent in many safari destinations in Africa. Ensure your children are up-to-date on their vaccinations, and bring appropriate insect repellent and clothing to protect against mosquito bites.

What is the tipping etiquette for safari guides and mountain crews on trips like this?

Tipping is highly appreciated at the end of safari/mountain climb. The size of tips will vary depending on the length and complexity of the trip, the number of staff on the trip and the number of clients on the trip. Generally, groups like to meet together before the end of the trek to discuss how much they would like to tip each staff member based on their individual trek experience. You should prepare an envelope after your trek for your tip money at the Hotel. You can use US dollars, Euros, TZ Shillings or a combination of these. Please ask the Safari/Climbing coordinator at the Hotel for advice.

Mountain Climbs : $25-50 USD per Day per Climber to be shared between guides, chefs and porters.

Safaris : Driver/Guide: $35-50 USD per Day per Car. If it is a camping safari there will be a tip for the cook $10 USD per Day.

Leave Nairobi early morning and cross the equator to reach semi-arid Samburu. You may see nomadic Samburu people en route. On game drives look for rare northern species such as Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

When To Go On Safari …

• January to February: Summer – dry and warm; cooler at Ngorongoro because of elevation. Migration picks up, with plenty of game throughout central/southern Serengeti.

• March: Rains become possible, bringing plains animals in search of fresh grass and food. Significant movement of antelope and other game to the plains for calving season; predators follow.

• June to October: Dry season; can be cold on the rim of Ngorongoro. Wildebeest and plains game begin migrating in search of water. By late July, wildebeest migration is in full swing, with opportunities for excellent game viewing and predator kills, especially in the Masai Mara.

• November to December: Season of the “short” rains (brief daily thunderstorms); comfortable temperatures at Ngorongoro; warm in the Serengeti, with plentiful game.

Kenya, Parco Nazionale Masai Mara e Lago Nakuru

Il Kenya ha grandi riserve naturali dove vivono tribù come quella dei Masai Mara . Il Maasai Mara in Kenya è tra le riserve più famose in Africa , qui si possono incontrare leopardi, leoni, elefanti, rinoceronti e bufali. Assistere, inoltre, allo spettacolo della Grande Migrazione , permette di avvistare branchi di gnu e di altri animali che arrivano nella Riserva tra luglio e ottobre per poi rientrare nella vicina Tanzania. Tanzania, Parco Nazionale Serengeti e Cratere Ngorongoro

In Tanzania la natura è strepitosa grazie anche alle sorgenti del Nilo e del Congo . Il Serengeti ospita la più grande concentrazione di erbivori del mondo. Namibia, Parco Nazionale Etosha

Il parco più famoso della Namibia è il Parco dell'Etosha , il cui nome significa grande luogo bianco , come il colore del suolo del deserto salino, l'Etosha Pan, che occupa gran parte di questo territorio. Nel parco è possibile avvistare i Big Five citati anche prima ovvero: leopardi, leoni, elefanti, rinoceronti e bufali, ma anche zebre, giraffe e sciacalli. Il Parco ha diverse pozze artificiali che, data l’ assenza di acqua, attirano gli animali permettendo ai viaggiatori di poterli ammirare da vicino. Il Parco dell'Etosha è adatto anche ai viaggiatori che preferiscono viaggiare in solitaria . Le grandissime distese della Namibia, quasi prive d’acqua, sono uno spettacolo lunare da non perdere. Il periodo estivo come per il resto delle mete è il migliore.

Sudafrica, Parco Nazionale Kruger

Il Sudafrica offre una gran scelta di posti dove fare un safari. Il Parco Nazionale Kruger , Patrimonio Unesco, è il parco più conosciuto; inaugurato nel 1988, si trova nel Nord del Paese e si estende su un territorio di 20000 chilometri quadrati . Anche qui i Big Five sono di casa e il parco è ben organizzato per l’avvistamento grazie a bacheche e lavagne usate per segnalare i punti migliori per trovarli, uno strumento utile specialmente, per fare un safari in self-drive. Botswana, il Chobe National Park

Nel Chobe National Park si possono incontrare ippopotami e coccodrilli. Il Botswana è una terra incontaminata dove facilmente si incontrano animali; ideale per un safari avventuroso immersi nella natura dominante. Il Chobe National Park fu il primo parco nazionale del Botswana, istituito nel 1968 , è suddiviso in quattro aree geografiche . Tra le esperienze da fare c’è la crociera sul fiume Chobe, le rive sono frequentate da branchi di erbivori e da famiglie di elefanti, soprattutto la sera. L’ enorme delta dell’Okavango è, invece, un habitat unico da sorvolare con un volo a bassa quota durante il tramonto per avvistare antilopi, bufali, gazzelle, leoni, zebre, elefanti, leopardi, ippopotami, ghepardi e coccodrilli.

Days of torrential rains have pummeled parts of Kenya, leaving at least 32 dead, 15 injured and more than 40,000 people displaced, according to officials. The flooding has killed nearly 1,000 farm animals and destroyed thousands of acres of crops, with more rain expected across the country in the coming days.

The rains began in March during what is known in the country as the “long rains,” but intensified over the past week, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department .

Heavy rains have also pounded other nations across East Africa. In Tanzania, at least 155 people were killed and 236 others injured from the relentless rain that has swept several parts of the country in recent days, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said on Thursday.

The rains affected some 200,000 people, Mr. Majaliwa added, and caused damage to farms, bridges, roads, schools and places of worship. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority warned that heavy rains and strong winds would continue to pummel several towns and cities, including the port city of Dar es Salaam.

In Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, where some of the country’s heaviest rain has fallen, more than 30,000 people have been displaced, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs . On Tuesday, 18 people there were stranded and later rescued, including seven children, the Kenya Red Cross Society said.

Edwin Sifuna, the Nairobi County senator, said on social media that the local government there was “clearly overwhelmed,” and he called on the federal government for help.

“The situation in Nairobi has escalated to extreme levels,” he wrote in a post that included a video of people stranded on rooftops surrounded by floodwaters.

Kithure Kindiki, cabinet secretary for the Interior Ministry, said in a social media post on Thursday that several government agencies were beginning a joint operation to assist the victims, conduct rescues and evacuate those who remain at risk.

The heavy rains on Wednesday forced Kenya Railways to suspend commuter train services. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority also partially closed four major roads in Nairobi and warned of heavy flooding along several major highways in the capital and in the coastal city of Mombasa.

The rains were not expected to subside over the next few days, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department, which had rain in the forecast for parts of the country, including Nairobi, through Monday. The agency also warned of a high likelihood of breakouts of diseases such as malaria and diarrhea in some areas.

The latest downpours come just months after torrential rains and floods killed dozens of people and displaced thousands more nationwide.

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Flooding in Tanzania caused by weeks of heavy rain has killed 155 people and affected more than 200,000 others, the prime minister said Thursday.

That is more than double the number of deaths reported two weeks ago as the amount of rainfall increases, especially in the coastal region and the capital, Dar es Salaam.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa told parliament that the El Niño climate pattern has worsened the ongoing rainy season, causing the flooding and destroying roads, bridges and railways. Flooded schools have been closed and emergency services have rescued people marooned by the flood waters.

Majaliwa warned those living in low-lying areas to move to higher ground and urged district officials to ensure that provisions meant for those whose homes were washed away go to those in need of the supplies. He said more than 51,000 households have been affected by the rains.

The East African region is experiencing heavy rains, with flooding also reported in neighboring Burundi and Kenya.

In Kenya , 35 people were reported dead as of Monday, and the number was expected to increase as flooding continues across the country.

In the Mathare slum in the capital, Nairobi, at least four bodies were retrieved from flooded houses on Wednesday. Local media reported that more bodies were retrieved from the Mathare River.

Kenyan President William Ruto chaired a multi-agency flood response meeting on Thursday and directed the National Youth Service to provide land for people in flood-affected areas.
