As of August 1, Saudi Arabia opened its doors to tourists from 49 countries. All the procedures have been simplified for obtaining a multiple-entry electronic visa for one year, allowing tourists to spend up to 90 days in the Kingdom.

The terms and conditions for obtaining tourist visa and entering the Kingdom include full immunization with one of the approved vaccines, in addition to a negative PCR test conducted within 72 hours from departure and registration in the Muqeem portal.

Eligible for the tourist visas are as follows: USA, Canada, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, UK, Switzerland, San Marino, Spain, Brunei, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Oceania, Australia and New Zealand.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Tourism announced a new Ministerial Decree that will allow faster, easier access to the country.

New regulations will enable Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) residents the option to apply for an eVisa through Visit Saudi's online portal. Moreover, residents of the UK, the US, and the EU can apply for a visa on arrival.

Holders of a valid tourist or business visa from the UK, US or one of the Schengen agreement countries will continue to be applicable for a visa on arrival, provided the tourist or business visa has been used at least once to enter the country.

The eVisa will be a one-year, multiple entry visa, allowing tourists to spend up to 90 days in the country. It covers tourism-related activities and Umrah (excluding Haj season) and excludes other activities such as studying.

The new decree also no longer requires visitors to visit the country's embassy before entering Saudi Arabia, allowing potential travellers a more simplified journey.

Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism for Saudi Arabia, said, "Elevating the visitor experience is at the heart of the tourism sector's future. Through harnessing digital innovation and streamlining the traveller journey, Saudi Arabia is welcoming more and more visitors from all corners of the globe."

Travellers from 48 countries are eligible to apply for the visa; including Canada, the USA, Switzerland, the UK, China, Singapore, Australia, and South Korea. However, South Asian countries India and Pakistan are not on the list of countries eligible for the eVisa.

Here is how applicants can apply for the visa:

According to the https://visa.visitsaudi.com/ website, travellers can apply for a visa in three simple steps:

Fill in the online application
Pay the visa fee
Get your online visa

Here are things to keep in mind:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old to use the service and to apply for an eVisa. Travellers cannot use the service if they are under 18 years of age. "If you will be using the service on behalf of a minor, you agree to these terms on behalf of that minor and you represent that you have the authority to do so. If you do not have such authority, you must not use the service," according to instructions posted by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism.
Applicants need to have a valid passport with six months validity from a permitted country.
If the eVisa application is accepted, the visa will be sent as an attachment via e-mail.
Rejected applicants will be informed via e-mail.
Once applicants have submitted an application for an eVisa, they will not be able to cancel it or request a refund under any circumstances.
However, applicants that are not successful (for whatever reason) will not be entitled to a refund of any application fees paid.
Any application containing false or misleading information will be rejected.
Payment of an application fee does not guarantee approval of an eVisa.
The price of the service will be set out on the Website and at the time of payment during the eVisa application process.
VAT will be charged at the applicable rate and will be payable by the applicant as part of the fees.
eVisa will be valid for one year from the date of issuance.
It will be valid for multiple entries unless stated otherwise on the specific eVisa.
The maximum length of stay allowed under the eVisa is three months.
Once granted an eVisa, it cannot be extended.
If the eVisa expires before entry to KSA, applicants must apply again and another application fee must be paid.
An eVisa is granted solely for tourist purposes or for the purpose of performing an Umrah and it is not considered a visa for work.
Applicants must be able to support themselves (and any dependents) during the visit.

Saudi Visa for GCC Residents

Saudi Arabia now accepts online applications for tourist visas from GCC residents. The new rule came into effect starting September 1, 2022 and can benefit all GCC residents, including expatriates. Also, this visa permits its holders to perform Umrah outside of Hajj season. In this article, we explain the conditions, fees, validity, and how to apply for a Saudi visa for GCC residents .

To be eligible for obtaining a Saudi visa for GCC residents , you are required to meet the following requirements.

At least a three-month validity residency visa from one of the GCC countries .
Your passport must have at least six months of validity remaining.
Your GCC Residency occupation must be one of those listed on the portal as eligible occupations.

Eligible Professions

The Saudi electronic visa is available to residents of the GCC in all professions except driving, labour, and nursing.

The cost of the visa is SR300, plus a health insurance fee. The visa application fee is not refundable.

Validity of Visa

The visa validity period is one year for multiple entry visas and three months for single entry visas. The length of stay will be 90 days for multiple entries and 30 days for single entries.

Visa for Family Members

Once you’ve applied for a visa for yourself, you can apply for your immediate family members; however, they cannot enter the country without you.

Start a New Visa Application

Log into the visa portal using your email address and password.

Click the “ Add A New Application ” button to create a new application.

Select visa type as “Tourism Visa”.
Choose a transport mode: Air, land, sea or open.

The Saudi Arabia one year multiple entry visa has a validity period of one year from the date of issue and permits the holder to stay 90 days in the country. Passport copy – Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date you plan to enter Saudi Arabia.
UAE Residence visa copy – Your residence visa must be valid for at least 3 months from the scheduled entry to Saudi Arabia.

Family visit visa extension rules

Valid Until : You cannot enter KSA after this date. However, you can still extend your visa after this day per the rules below.
A single-entry family visit visa is issued initially for 30 days of stay, which can be extended 8 more times up to 270 days through Absher.
A multiple-entry family visit visa is issued initially for 90 days of stay, which can no longer be extended.
You can apply for the visit visa extension 7 days before and 3 days after the visa expiry.
You can apply for extensions even if your Iqama has expired.
What to do if a family visit visa expires?

Step 1: Get the Insurance

First of all, you need to get medical insurance covering the whole period after the extension of the family visit visa.

The single-entry family visit visa can only be used to enter Saudi Arabia once.

A multiple-family visit visa extension is impossible after 365 days, as you cannot enter Saudi Arabia after that.

All expatriate residents in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, regardless of their profession, can apply for a Saudi electronic tourist visa or eVisa, according to an announcement made by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism on March 9 .

Additionally, all first-degree relatives of the GCC resident and domestic workers who visit along with their sponsors can also obtain an eVisa. However, the expats' dependents must have a valid residency visa from a GCC country, according to the website of the Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

So, if you are a UAE resident, with this e-visa you can visit family and friends, explore the country and perform Umrah anytime, except during the Hajj season.

Here is all you need to know .

Who is eligible for the e-visa?

Before you apply, these are the conditions GCC residents must meet to make sure they are eligible for the Saudi e-visa:

The residency document should be valid for at least three months.
A passport must be valid for at least six months.
The minimum age of applicants is 18 - if they are travelling without their parents.

Which documents do I need to provide?

How to apply for the Saudi e-visa for GCC residents online

GCC residents can apply for a tourist visa online through MOFA's online visa platform - visa.mofa.gov.sa.

Here is a step-by-step process on how to apply for the visa:

Step 1: Create an online account

1. Visit the link here: https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/Account/Loginindividuals. 2. Next, click on ‘Register’ under the ‘Login Of Individual Visitors To Saudi Arabia’ category. 3. Then, type in your email address and create a password and confirm it. After that, type in the ‘captcha code’ and click on the ‘Register’ button. 4. Next, go to your email inbox, and click on the link to activate your account. 5. Then login again with your new account and enter the captcha code. Click the ‘Login’ button.

Step 2: Create a new visa application

1. After you have logged in, click on the white tab labelled, ‘Add a new application’ on the right of your screen. 2. You then go through the terms and conditions and click on ‘agree’.

Step 3: Fill out the Saudi e-visa application for GCC residents

Next, fill e-visa application form with the following details:

Enter the e-visa information: • Select visa type: Tourist • Transport mode: Air, land, sea or open • Select the Saudi Mission: Dubai

Enter personal information: • Type in your first and last name. • Select your nationality

After you have selected your nationality, select the option that states, 'A valid residence for a period of no less than three months in the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Gulf Countries, including domestic workers who come with their sponsors.'

Enter your UAE residence visa details: • Type in your residence visa number which is your UID (Unified Number) number • Enter the expiry date of your UAE residence visa. • Select the issuing country: UAE

Step 4: Upload the documents

• Passport-sized photograph • Passport copy • UAE residence visa copy

• Passport number • Issuing country • Date of expiry • Date of birth • Passport type: Normal • Date of issue • Place of birth

Enter other details: • Select your marital status • Gender • Address in Saudi Arabia

Step 6: Enter your travel date and select type of tourist visa:

1. Select the port of entry: • Jeddah • Al Madinah • Riyadh • Dammam • Dhahran

2. Enter your expected entry date 3. Next, select your tourist visa type: • Single • Multiple The single entry visa will be valid for three months from the date of issuance and you will be allowed to stay in Saudi Arabia for 30 days. The multiple entry visa will be valid for one year and you will be allowed to stay in Saudi Arabia for 90 days.

• Next, select if you want to perform Umrah , the MOFA website states that a visitor can perform Umrah throughout the year apart from the Hajj season. • After that, enter the captcha code, and click the ‘Save’ button.

Step 7: Confirm the application data

The website will then provide you with all the details of your application and ask you to fill in your email address and mobile number.

Step 8: Select your medical insurance

You will then be asked to pick a health insurance coverage provided by Saudi health insurance providers, along with the cost of each insurance plan. Pick the health insurance coverage that is suitable for you.

Step 9: Make the payment

After selecting the health insurance, pay for the e-visa via debit/credit card.

How long can e-visa holders stay in Saudi Arabia?

According to Saudi Arabia’s official tourism website – visitsaudi.com – the duration of stay depends on the type of visa you apply for:

• The multiple-entry tourist visa is valid for one year from the date of issuance, and you can stay in Saudi Arabia for a period of 90 days . • The single-entry tourist visa is valid for three months from the date of issuance, and you can stay in Saudi Arabia for a period of 30 days .

However, it is important to note the application does not guarantee the granting of the visa and MOFA will grant the visa after reviewing the each application.

Also, according to visitsaudi.com, if the e-visa application is rejected because it does not meet the requirements, the application fee is non-refundable.

What does EU visa relaxation for Saudi, Bahraini, Omani citizens mean?

This week, the European Union (EU) announced a relaxation of Schengen visa rules for the citizens of Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia , making it much easier for nationals of the Gulf countries to visit Europe.

Background: At the EU- Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) High Level Forum on Regional Security and Cooperation in Luxembourg on Monday, the European Commission adopted three implementing decisions to update the Schengen rules for issuing multiday visas for the three Gulf states. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud headed a delegation from the kingdom in the European country, which also included Ambassador to the EU Haifa Al-Jedea and the Foreign Ministry’s adviser, Manal Radwan.

Announcing the visa rule change during the opening session of the forum, the EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said, “I welcome a decision adopted by the European Commission this morning to harmonize the rules for granting multiple-entry visas for the citizens of the GCC countries.”

The GCC includes Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.

At the forum, officials discussed security and strategic cooperation between the GCC and the EU, as well as the conflict in the Gaza Strip and the wider region.

What are the new visa rules?

Under the new rules, Bahraini, Omani and Saudi Arabian nationals will be eligible for multiple-entry visas, allowing them to visit the Schengen area (the EU’s 27 member states as well as Bulgaria and Romania) and move freely between them. The area expanded in February 2022 to include the two non-EU states, removing all air and maritime border controls. A decision on whether to remove land border controls will be made at a later date.

Those who have the visa will be able to visit Schengen area countries multiple times over five years with the same visa. The visa will also apply to first-time travelers to Europe from the three Middle Eastern countries.

Holders of the visas will enjoy the same travel rights as visa-free nationals.

Other members of the GCC, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar, have different rules regarding getting a Schengen visa. UAE citizens do not need a visa to travel to the Schengen area, but Qataris must apply for one.

In 2022, the EU said it planned to offer visa-free travel to Kuwait and Qatari nationals. A new visa “cascade scheme” was unveiled for Kuwaitis last September, allowing for all eligible applicants, including those travelling for the first time, to obtain five-year permits.

Know more: The move by the EU comes after the UK government announced in February that nationals from the GCC, including Saudi Arabia, could apply for Electronic Travel Authorization visas , making it easier for them to come to the UK, even on very short notice. The EU decision will allow the 27-nation bloc to remain competitive in providing access to their countries to Saudi nationals, as European countries vie for new investment from wealthy Gulf countries.

On the Gulf side, the Riyadh-headquartered GCC in November announced plans for a unified tourist visa similar to the Schengen visa.
