Walking, Terrain & Physical Requirements

• Travelers should be prepared to walk 2-3 miles per day- this includes city streets, cobblestones, stairs, and hills.
• Cobblestone streets can become slick when wet.
• During the visit to Neuschwanstein, travelers can expect to walk 25 minutes uphill on a steep incline to view the castle and further walking to get to the castles entrance, if they wish.
• Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance.
• Please Note: Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.

Climate Considerations

• In the summer months from June to September, travelers can expect high temperatures from 70Fs -80Fs and lows from 50Fs-60Fs with occasional extreme heatwaves.

Physical Activity & Tour Pace Questions

• Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special mobility or luggage handling assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group enjoys a smooth and informative journey, and they can’t be relied on to provide individualized assistance to any one traveler.
• This tour moves at a reasonable pace to avoid missing scheduled stops. The rest of the group cannot miss any scheduled activities because of the needs of an individual.
• Due to the pace and physical activity level of this tour, mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers will be difficult to use and are not recommended. Please notify Go Ahead Tours before your departure if you plan to bring these on tour with you.

• Most transportation on this tour is by private motor coach. Private motor coaches have steps required to board and often do not provide access to ramps or lifts.

• Most of our itineraries include headsets used during certain sightseeing tours so travelers can hear their guides or Tour Director. If you use an assisted listening device, such as a hearing aid or cochlear implant, please visit our Help Center for more information or contact our customer experience team. Please note that at this time not all our destinations offer headsets due to supplier limitations.
• The water is safe to drink throughout your tour unless posted otherwise.
• This tour includes 3 dinners. Included meals may be plated set menus, buffet or family style depending on the location. Dinners include one glass of beer, wine, or soft drink and water, coffee and tea.
• Breakfast each morning is also included at the hotel and is typically buffet style with hot and cold options.
• Swiss food is varied and sophisticated, and some popular dishes include sausages, breaded veal fillets, freshwater fish, and cheese dishes such as fondue and raclette. Be sure to try Swiss chocolate, which is among the world’s finest.
• German food is hearty and substantial. Among the specialties are dumpling stews, sauerkraut, sausages, smoked cheeses, and dark breads. Bavaria produces some of the world’s purest beers, and white German wines are exceptionally good.
• Austria is known for its savory Wiener schnitzel and excellent wild trout, carp, and crayfish. Save room for dessert—especially the strudels of fruit and nuts and elegant chocolate cakes, such as the world-famous Sachertorte.
• On the tour extension, Czech food is hearty, and you’ll find large portions of veal, beef, and potato dishes. Some of the world’s finest beers are produced here, including the original Budweiser and Pils.
• At the conclusion of your tour, it is customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
• We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
• If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
• Tips can only be paid in cash.
• If you are traveling to multiple countries with different currencies and the same Tour Director, ask them what currency they prefer for their tip.
• The cost of porterage is included in your tour price, and it is not necessary to tip baggage handlers.
• You will use the Swiss franc in Switzerland and the euro in Germany and Austria (and the Czech koruna in the Czech Republic on the tour extension).
• Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
• We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
• You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
• Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
• International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.

Most guests are solo travelers and there’s no single supplement to worry about as accommodation is typically in a shared room or cabin. Though if privacy is a priority, you can usually snag your own room for a nominal extra fee. When I was a teenager, my family went on one of those bus tours of Europe, where we saw everything — we took 15-minute photo stops in front of landmarks from the Leaning Tower of Pisa to the Amsterdam Central Train Station. But now looking back, I realize we really saw nothing.

While monuments should dictate your itinerary in Europe, it's really how you take in the sights that will make your trip. And with the sheer amount of things to see and do, traveling in Europe, especially with a big group, can get overwhelming. That's why it's one of the best continents to visit alone, where you can really see everything at your own pace.

I've spent alone time in big metropolises like London and Paris; good-sized cities like Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, Dusseldorf, and Vienna; and as smaller towns like Bergen. In each case, letting myself wander and getting lost led to some of the most memorable moments on the trip, like when I swapped cameras with other single travelers on the towering outdoor spire of Copenhagen's Vor Frelsers Kirke, or when I relaxed in the pools of Stockholm's historic Centralbadet bath house alongside locals of all ages. My favorite discovery was the Sainte Chapelle — its stained glass was so dramatic that I was grateful for the opportunity to take it in at my own pace. And for a quirky and free place to stay, become a Tumbleweed at the English bookshop Shakespeare and Company , where you pay for your night's stay by volunteering at the store for a few hours, reading a book a day, and writing a one-page autobiography.

Leave your stress behind as you explore the centuries-old Dublin Castle and St. Patrick's Cathedral, in the capital ranked one of the safest cities in 2015 by a Post Office Travel Insurance Study. Pick up a three-day Leap Card at the airport for less than 20 Euros (which includes your bus ride from the airport) and you'll be zipping through town in no time.

One of the best ways to meet people while traveling alone is to head to a festival , where like-minded travelers and locals bond over common interests. From the more traditional International Film Festival and Jazz and Blues Festival to the spectacles of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the celebrations only add to the long list of to-dos in the hilly coastal city.

I loved the freedom of being alone in the City of Music, where I sipped coffee and indulged in a sacher torte in a traditional café , got lost on the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace, and took in a show at an opera house. With plenty of visitors and a burgeoning design scene , Austria's capital is bursting with charm . So it's no wonder it ranked the highest for quality of living in a Mercer study this year.

The friendly waterfront Norwegian town is an idyllic spot for traveling alone. It's a cinch to locate the UNESCO Heritage wooden houses of Bryggen, the outdoor fish market, and Fløibanen funicular, but just challenging enough to get to surrounding sights like the Mount Ulriken Cable Car and Troldhaugen, home of composer Edvard Grieg. If you start feeling like you're lost, like I did during the 20-minute walk through a suburban neighborhood with little signage, just wait until you run into a local — they'll kindly point you in the right direction.

As the capital of one of the highest-ranking European countries for safety and security in the Prosperity Index , Helsinki is one of the most laid-back places around. I fell in love with the quaint seaside village , which is full of innovative eats and has tons of open air (one-third of the city is green space). And water lovers should spend some time hopping between one of the 330 islands on the archipelago.

Berlin is young and old, historic and modern, and classic and cutting edge — all at the same time. The city is still constantly changing, and there are so many sights that it'll inevitably be difficult to fit it all into your schedule. I started my sprint at the Circus Hotel, which offers single rooms in both its hotel and hostel, and took off on city tour with them to get the lay of the land the first day. Once situated, I was able to run between sights like the Berlin Wall's East Side Gallery and the Brandenburg Gate, snacking on currywurst — my newfound favorite local dish — along the way.

With Iceland earning top honors as the most peaceful country in Europe according to last year's Global Peace Index , safety is rarely a concern on the island nation. While the capital itself can be pricey, there are ways to navigate the high exchange rate: Two companies offer free city walking tours (there's also a pub crawl tour for $24), and the most popular meal in town is the Baejarins Beztu Pysur hot dog stand , made famous by Bill Clinton and more recently, Kim Kardashian .

Follow in Mark Twain's steps in this tourist-friendly town nestled in central Switzerland , on the northern tip of Lake Lucerne. The charming covered Chapel Bridge and Water Tower sit in the heart of the mountaintop city, making the small town an effortless getaway for first-time solo travelers. The railroad station is in walking distance of Old Town, and the entire city is extremely easy to explore by foot.

With easy-to-navigate trains from its airports (which I've managed while bleary-eyed from both Heathrow and Gatwick) and 270 stations on the London Underground (which helped me connect day trips to Windsor Castle and Levensden's Warner Bros. Studio Tour for the Harry Potter tour), you can get anywhere quickly in the British capital . Pub culture makes it easy to grab a pint at the bar among locals and the long stretches of shops in areas like Notting Hill and Knightsbridge can help you blend in with shoppers. The Czech Republic capital is a manageable size, with major sites concentrated within walking distance. Whichever side of the Charles Bridge you stay on, you're just steps away from Old Town and the Prague Castle — both of which provided a full day's worth of exploration for me. Just a stroll away on the castle side is the Petřín funicular, where I took in hilltop views of the city's orange rooftops, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque churches, and Renaissance palaces. And throughout town, you'll find stands to buy affordable concert tickets in exclusive venues, like the stunning show I caught in the Klementinum's Mirror Chapel.

This was a great tour made wonderful by our tour guide Zdenka. She knew these countries so well, she wanted us to see everything possible and she made it happen! Our bus driver, Gaspy, kept us safe and on time. Would recommend this tour, you learn so much and the countries visited were so beautiful and welcoming. This is the first time that Globus gave us a couple small, quirky new hotels that were not comfortable. Please Globus stick to regular hotels that have great staff. if the hotels are far from city center please give us transportation there and back on our afternoons off whenever possible.

This trip was such a delight from start to finish. The hotel in Budapest is just beautiful and I had a spa treatment to start the trip. The salt mines were a personal favourite of mine. Our Travel Director Carl was very informative and was always on hand to give additional information. I HIGHLY recommend this trip. Truly magical!

Budapest to Sofia Adventure

Breakfast was marginal in many places, a toaster would help a lot. in Videilla Tranovo Coffee was so bad as to be undrinkable, cold, strong instant. Guide was spectacular, knowledgeable, fun, organized and patient. He Made the trip. Hotels were clean and adequate for the stays. We spent most days with a tour and then free time for exploration. Transit was as done by the locals so while not great in some places, it was a fair immersion in the environment.

Budapest to Istanbul

I would have wanted the Rila Monastery included in the itinerary. Our tour leader, Vlad, was everything (and more) that one can ask for in a guide.It was evident that he was well-read about the history of the places we saw. He even included images to show in his talks. On a personal note, he made every effort to address each group member's questions and concerns in a friendly yet professional manner and go out of the way, if necessary, to attend to them. The local guides, Peter and Ibrahim, were likewise very knowledgeable in their particular areas.

Prague Vienna and Budapest (10 Days)

This was an excellent trip and good value. Local guides were engaged in most of the destinations and there was a good balance of free time and organized activity. The one downside of Trafalger tours is that the main escort is not necessarily from the host region, and there is a 'big-bus' feel. That said, the escorts are professionals and have good group management skills.

To be honest, part of what made the trip fantastic was our group of 12- could not have had a better group to travel with- which is clearly luck, but a piece of our group being so cohesive was Nejca, our guide. She was perfect! Available but not pushy. Laid back, but willing to assert herself to make our experience the best. She made each person in the group feel special and appreciated. Thank you, Nejca! The itinerary was quite good as well. Although there were places I could have stayed for a day longer, I think it’s important to not stay too long and feel like time is wasted on a certain place on the tour. Transportation was efficient and Nejca did a great job getting us to our destinations easily and without rushing. Accommodations were very good- with the exception of Prague. Although our apartment was nice, it was clear that the residents of Prague feel that their space is being taken over by tourists- which is clearly true. I would have preferred to have stayed in a hotel in Prague-honestly, I would have paid more for it. Other than that, cannot day enough good things about the trip! Thank you!!

When the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was convicted of sex crimes four years ago, it was celebrated as a watershed moment for the #MeToo movement. Yesterday, New York’s highest court of appeals overturned that conviction.

Jodi Kantor, one of the reporters who broke the story of the abuse allegations against Mr. Weinstein in 2017, explains what this ruling means for him and for #MeToo.
