Our Experience In Megamalai

Assault on first attempt.

On Saturday evening, we started our journey towards Megamalai at around 4 PM from Chinnamanur. Surprisingly, the rain started while entering the Megamalai road. Around 15 mins we got wet in the rainfall. After reaching the check post, we get to know only people who booked the stay will be allowed after 4 PM(If you’re not staying in Megamalai, you’ll have to return before 6 PM to the check post. After 6 PM check post would be closed. Check the FAQ section for more details). Few booking brokers suggested booking a homestay in Megamalai even though at the weekends. But we denied it due to the high price. And then we settled in Chinnamanur for a cheap and best lodge.

When Did We Start?

In the first place, our motive is to experience the wild animals so, we’ve planned to start early at 5.30 AM, but we’ve ended up leaving the lodge and Chinnamanur at 7 AM. There is no question in the check post and, we hit the first hairpin bend at 7.45 AM. After that, we saw many Reptiles on the way to the Unseen Paradise.

Megamalai Checkpost

Reached Megamalai At 9 AM

We reached the Unseen Paradise at 9 AM. Despite enjoying the drizzling day, our day was Sunny. However, we enjoyed taking photos at the Megamalai door and talked to some tea estate workers. They said their monthly salary is not more than 12K. We men have to guard our family against the elephants at night time. It was a good experience talking to them, besides this, working in the daytime and protecting their family at night from animals(Not all days and no animal going to harm them, but still) is really hard.

Breakfast At Venniar Estate near Maharaja Mettu

Here’s our breakfast time. Taking photos and experiencing wildlife made us to forgot having breakfast. But our stomach did not let that happen. We were looking for a good hotel from Highwavys, but we couldn’t discover anything until reaching the Venniar Estate. Upon reaching Venniar Estate, a 65-year-old grandma came and took us to their home come hotel. There we had a delicious breakfast 👌😋 with breeze air. We’re sharing more details about this place in our Vlog.

Off-Road To Maharaja Mettu

After that place, it is full OFF-ROAD and road construction work is going on. It was very thrilling for us as we’re going on a bike. Somehow I managed to sit back and record videos as the road condition is not good to shoot steady videos. It’ll be around a 7KM journey.

Megamalai Off Road

The viewpoint of Gudalur, Cumbum

Finally, we’ve arrived at the place of Unseen Paradise. It’ll be around 15 mins trek, never mind, it was a small trek. We spent almost 2 hours taking photos, enjoying nature and experiencing the beautiful view of Cumbum, Gudalur and more. Some couples came and enjoyed their post-wedding shoot. There is a Hindu temple where we prayed at the top of the hills. From the peak, we’ve seen Indian Gaur(Bison), waterfalls, clouds and a lot of other things that made our day incredible. After spending 2 hours, we came to Chinnamanur at around 2 PM as we’ve to get back to our hometown of Udumalpet.

Our Stay, Food And More Details

The trip is about Four members(All are men) and Two days(Planned six members, while getting ready Two dropped). Our entire trip costs 4000 for stays, food, and travel. We stayed at Chinnamanur and, Petrol is a higher expense for us.

Where to Stay In Megamalai?

There are no best stays in Megamalai except the Govt cottage that too an average. If you want to stay, you’ll have to book online for weekends. At the same time, for weekdays you can directly go and book. But we strongly recommend you take rooms on Chinnamanur or Theni and start as soon as possible in the morning to get the pure air! In reality, we are unable to find any good stay in Megamalai with good services provided.

Budget For Megamalai

Whenever we plan for a trip, the major expenses are Stay, Food and Purchase. In this case, we don’t have to worry about it, since there are NO 5-star hotels to stay in and restaurants for food. On the other hand, there are no special items to purchase for ladies, which saves a lot for you 😃. Given these things, for the best memories, it’ll cost ₹1000 per person per day.

Megamalai Wildlife

You can experience Chameleon, Squirrel, Elephants, Tiger Indian Gaur (Bison), Monitor lizard, butterflies and reptiles species, etc. You can see elephants easily in the morning time. If you’re lucky, in the evening time you can spot the tigers crossing the road.

About Tea Estates

Megamalai is full of with Tea estates and Cardamom plantations. In other words, instead of projecting this place as a tourist attraction, we should realize this is a Tea Estate. With this in mind, the question may arise, “Whose managing these tea estates Private or Govt”? The answer is few private groups, including the Woodbriar Group , Ananda Plantations and few others.

Megamalai Entry Timing

If you’re staying in Megamalai, the check post is open from 6 AM to 6 PM. If you’re roaming and enjoying the Megamalai, you’ll need to return to the check post on or before 5 PM for your safety. Other than these times, check post will be closed, and you’re not allowed to climb or return.

What’s Awesome At Unseen Paradise

Peace and Less crowded. Viewpoint from Maharaja Mettu. Small Falls beside the road. Gorgeous clouds and incredible nature will let you know who you’re.

Concerns of Megamalai

Better accommodations and hotels are not available. No Cellphone Tower 90% the places. Fewer spots. Fewer Bus facilities.

How Many Days Recommended?

One day is certainly enough to visit all places in Megamalai.

How to be explore safely from wild animals?

They really don’t do anything bad for us bro. If you spot any animals crossing the road or standing in the road, please let them go. Until wait for them. On the other hand, for your utmost safety, you can choose a Jeep after crossing Highwavys. It’ll be more safety.

The airport in Madurai, which is 87 kilometres away from Theni, is the closest one. You may take a cab from the airport to get to Theni once you are there.

Theni is conveniently reachable by train thanks to its railroad station, which links it to all the major cities and villages in the state.

However, the two main railway connections closest to the town, Madurai and Dindigul, are for people coming from neighbouring states and are separated from it by 74 km and 76 km, respectively. One may take a cab or a local bus to get from the stations to Theni.

History of theni.

Theni District was formed by the bifurcation from the former Madurai District as per G.O. Ms. No. 679 Revenue Department dated July 7, 1996. Bodi Ammapatti is the notable village in Theni district. Consequent to the bifurcation, one new Revenue Division with headquarters at Uthamapalayam and two new Taluks at Theni and Bodinayakanur were also created with effect from January 1, 1997. Theni Municipal town was only a firka headquarters until December 31, 1996. Consequent to the formation of the new District, Theni Municipal Town was upgraded as the Taluk and District headquarters on January 1, 1997. The region covered by present-day Theni District was sparsely populated before the 1900s. In 1886 Mullaperiyar dam project bought some part of the water from Periyar River downhill to the Cumbum Valley and merged it into the Mullayar River. This project helped more people to settle down in Cumbum Valley. Also to be noted that Theni was itself was a small though lesser-known town by the 1900s. After the Mullay-Periyaar merger project lots of people from nearby dry arid regions (Sivakasi, Kovilpatti, Virudhunagar, Sattur and several nearby towns) settled in Cumbum-Valley (present day Theni District). So there was influx of people by the 1890s to 1920s. Bodi and Periyakulam were famous places at that time. Later Theni developed rapidly due to lots of business activities.PERIYAKULAM is head of theni talukas.

Lucky school bus driver wins $1 million on her birthday

JONESTOWN, Penn. (Gray News) – A school bus driver in Pennsylvania unexpectedly received a $1 million birthday gift from her husband.

April Zipp, 58, told lottery officials her husband picked up a winning Mega Millions ticket when he stopped for ice cream.

“I got up the next day on my birthday and checked the tickets with the Lottery’s app and it told me a claim form was needed. I didn’t understand it at first,” Zipp said in a statement .

Zipp said she and her husband went back to the store to verify the ticket.

“The clerk scanned the ticket and told me it was a big winner and to sign the back,” Zipp said. “I went outside and cried.”

Zipp, who has been a school bus driver for more than 40 years, told her children about the great news.

“They couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I plan to continue working for now, but my husband and I would like to buy an RV and travel and finally live life.”

McCormick, other Republicans launch bus tour in Erie, as race shifts to general election

theni tourist bus

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick and GOP candidates for a state row office kicked off the general election in Erie County Wednesday morning as part of a six-city, two-day bus tour.

Treasurer Stacy Garritty and Auditor Tim DeFoor, both incumbents, joined Dave McCormick and others at a post-primary campaign event at Voodoo Brewing Co., 101 Boston Store Place, to tell supporters how critical the Nov. 5 election will be for the future of the state and country, and encourage them to get hesitant friends, family members and neighbors off the sidelines to vote — even if it means casting a mail-in ballot, which the party had widely shunned since the 2020 presidential election.

"If we don't take back America this go-around, I'm not sure what will be left four years from now," said state Sen. Dan Laughlin, R-49th Dist., who was among several Republicans to make statements to the audience ahead of McCormick.

Laughlin noted that his Senate seat is a top target of Democrats as they attempt to hold onto their slim majority in the state House and take control of the upper chamber. McCormick's bid to unseat three-term incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Casey Jr., he added, could allow the GOP to retake the U.S. Senate.

McCormick, who ran in 2022 for the seat formerly held by Republican Patrick Toomey, took aim at both Casey and the man who went on to win Toomey's seat, Sen. John Fetterman.

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

"We've got one who won't wear a suit," McCormick said, referring to Fetterman, "and another who is an empty suit."

The group of Republicans criticized President Joe Biden for his handling of the southern border and blamed him for post-pandemic inflation. They said Casey has been in lockstep with Biden on a "war on energy."

McCormick, who served in the U.S. Treasury Department during George W. Bush's presidency and is the former CEO of one of the world's largest hedge funds, easily secured his party's nomination Tuesday after coming up short in 2022 to Dr. Mehmet Oz, who went on to lose to Fetterman. Casey, seeking a fourth, six-year term, also sailed to an easy win.

"All of you are here for the same reason that we're running because you're worried," McCormick said. "You're worried that the country you love is slipping away. You're worried you're going to wake up sometime soon and not recognize the America that we see. We're in trouble."

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th Dist., said McCormick has "impeccable character" and compared him to former President Donald Trump, the party's presumptive nominee, saying neither McCormick nor Trump needed to leave lucrative careers but felt compelled to out of service to their country.

Garritty, the state treasurer who's seeking a second term, made no mention Wednesday of her opponent, Allegheny County small businesswoman Erin McClelland or state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, the Erie Democrat who many had expected to win his party's nomination. McClelland scored an upset Tuesday in topping Bizzarro for the Democratic nomination. Bizzarro, who is also seeking re-election to his House seat, had the endorsement of the state party and a slew of labor unions and other political organizations in the treasurer's race.

"Democrats want to live in the past," Garrity said at one point. "Let's leave them in the past."

Both Erie County Republican Party Chairman Tom Eddy and state Sen. Scott Hutchinson were in attendance.

Republican Attorney General candidate Dave Sunday did not attend the Erie event Wednesday, but was expected to join the GOP slate in stops in Washington and Altoona in the afternoon. The bus tour continues Thursday in Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre and Media.

Bus Tour Itinerary:

Want to feel like a real Muscovite and experience the atmosphere or this extraordinary city in just a few hours? Then explore ithe main artery of Moscow - the Garden Ring.

After you visited the ancient Kremlin, explored the area of Kitay Gorod and enjoyed the sights of White city, it's time to move on and take a ride along the 17th century border of Moscow - the Garden Ring.

After we explore the Stalin skyscraper -  building of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we will turn to Old Arbat pedestrian zone. You will see lovely houses of 19 centuries and feel the atmosphere of old Moscow, as the Arbat preserved it almost untouched.

In 90-s Arbat was chosen by the members of numerous subcultures as the place for hangout. Nowadays Arbat is Bohemian place and one of Moscow's symbols. But long time ago it was just a suburb.

Soon we’ll find ourselves on New Arbat, that was founded in 60-s, and was conceived as a government road. This New Arbat dramatically differs from the Old Arbat.

Patriarch Ponds

One more beloved place among the Muscovites with a very rich history. A lots of famous and outstanding personalities lived in this area: poets, scientists, militaries and even criminals. In 17 century Patriarch Hermogenus founded a Patriarch's village here, hence the name. Moreover, this place is famous all over the world thanks to the genius Russian writer M. Bulgakov. He chose Patriarch's ponds as the scene of his novel "The Master and Margarita".

Hermitage Garden

The next coziest and memorable place for all of Muscovites is Hermitage Garden. Before the Revolution it was a Bohemian place, frequently attended by the great actors and writers, art workers, and patrons. Here for the first time in Moscow a movie of Lumiere's brothers was shown. Today tradition continues and there are two theaters inside the park, lots of memorials and fun.

Museon Park & Gorky Park

Today Muscovites can't imagine their leisure activities without visiting Museon Statues Park and Gorky Park. These are fun areas. Take a look at Soviet monuments of Communist rulers, take a walk along the embankment, note what's wrong with the Peter's the Great monument, enjoy big musical fountain in Gorky park and observe how Russians spend their free time.

Crimean bridge

The last part of our Moscow bus tour you'll spend walking over the Crimean bridge. Long time ago on that place was a ford, which the Crimean Tatars used in order to attack Muscovy, that's why it was called Crimean. This hanging bridge is the one of a kind in Moscow. Moreover, it serves as a fabulous observation point, it is really a mysterious place.

On the tour you will find out:

  • why Stalin was mad when he saw the building of Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • how Muscovites truly call New Arbat;
  • the real reason why Bulgakov chose Patriarch's ponds as the scene where Devil arrived for the first time;
  • who suggested to build Moscow rings;
  • where are hidden all the gardens on the Garden Ring;
  • why Crimean bridge is very dangerous.

On the tour you will see:

  • Historical buildings of 19 century;
  • Stalin's Empire;
  • 4 out of 7 Stalin Skyscrapers;
  • Old and New Arbat;
  • Most popular Moscow Parks;
  • First electric street lamp in Moscow;
  • Main squares of the city;
  • Fascinating non touristy places;
  • Muscovites daily life and transportation.

Fun Facts from our Bus Tours:

What is the garden ring in moscow.

Actually, we call the Garden Ring  a series of streets, separated by the squares.

A great number of fascinating and historical places a re situated on the Garden Ring.  Traveling along that street, you can briefly learn about all main areas of Moscow, learn its history and meaning. It will help you to navigate Moscow better and surely you can feel more like a local on this tour.

Every square on the Garden Ring has its own historical background. For example, Sukharevskaya square in 19 century hosted a market. It was very popular among Muscovites, but usually stolen things were sold there. Often people had to buy there their own stuff again after it was stolen. The Smolenskaya, Crimean, Serpukhovskaya, Taganskaya squares were market places too.

Triumphalnaya square bears its name in memory of triumphal arch that stood here to commemorate the victory over Sweden, built by the order of Peter the Great, as well as Red Gate square placed another triumphal arch. In the beginning of 20 century Triumphal square was a cultural place. Several theaters were situated there, Meyerhold’s theater among them, a circus and a park.

Three squares of the Garden Ring became real battlefields during the revolution between the bolsheviks and tsar's supporters in 1917. And finally capitulation of royal regime was signed in the building, situated on the Garden Ring.

"And the Garden ring became a wedding ring to us…"

These are words from the official soundtrack to the very popular soviet movie "Moscow does not believe in tears" that has won an American Academy Award for the best foreign language film in 1980. Not coincidentally Garden Ring is mentioned in this song as a symbol of Moscow. As it is very important part of our city, it reflects all historical events beginning from the end of 16th century.

A Garden Ring? No. An earthern rampart!

The territory outside White city's wall was called Earthern city . The Earthern city was an area were traditionally poor citizens used to settle: peasants and craftsmen. In comparison with the White city this area has always been dirty and less prestigious. For example, in White city streets were paved in stone and buildings stood on the stone basements while Earthern city had only wooden houses.

This area was proclaimed as a part of Moscow only in 1593. And great fortification wooden wall, that surrounded the territory of Earthern city, was erected by the order of tsar Fyodor Ioannovich only in a year and was called "Skorodom" - fast-built house. Outside Skorodom was additionally fortificated with the moat and the rampart.

In Times of Troubles Skorodom was burnt down by Poles and restored by the Great Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich the Silent. Finally it had 57 towers and 11 entry gates.  Nowadays on that spots, where gates once stood, you can spot the main squares of Moscow.

Skorodom was destroyed and restored a lot's of times: during the Times of Troubles, Napoleon's invasion, in frequent Moscow fires. And finally in 1830 Skorodom was demolished as it lost its functions.

Miraculous transfiguration on Stalin’s orders

In 1917 the Great October revolution blew up everything that seemed to be right at that time. And in 1930-s Moscow was reconstructed… again. This time communists were making Moscow a model of communistic city. Surely that large-scale reconstruction touched the Garden Ring. The road was widened up to 60-70 meters, paved and became a ring with the help of new bridges: Crimean and Krasnokholmskiy. Since that time the Garden Ring is considered the main artery of Moscow.
