Tom Allen announces 2023 tour
Completely revolves around him finally moving out of home
Tom Allen has announced new stand-up tour for 2023.
In Completely the 38-year-old comedian will be talking about how he finally moved out of his parents' house, and is now negotiating his vegetable patch and the protocol of inviting friends with children for dinner.
More than 40 dates have been announced for 2023, starting at the Frome Memorial Theatre on February 1 and wrapping up at the Ulster Hall in Belfast on June 9. As it stands, the tour avoids most big cities in favour of towns and smaller cities.
The news comes as it was revealed that he was writing a second volume of memoirs – and was announced as part of the line-up for this year’s Just For Laughs festival in Montreal.
Allen has also just stepped down from hosting Bake Off: The Professionals, which returned to Channel 4 last night.
When he announced the news in February, he said he had ’the best time’ on the show ‘bit now is the time to move on’. ‘It was my first TV presenting job back in 2018 and it has taught me so much, he added. ‘Thanks to the amazing team.’
Allen’s last tour, Absolutely, launched at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe and went on to sell 50,000 tickets, including his sell out show at The London Palladium where he recorded it as a special for Amazon’s Prime Video.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Monday.

When were you happiest? On holiday in Spain with my family about 20 years ago. Sad, but true.
What is your greatest fear? Isolation.
What is your earliest memory? Getting deliberately lost in the supermarket so I could hear my name being called out on a public address system.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? Fearfulness.
What is the trait you most deplore in others? Selfishness.
What was your most embarrassing moment? I did a corporate gig early in my career, and they opened the buffet in the middle of my set and everybody left.
Describe yourself in three words Uptight, smart and charming.
What do you most dislike about your appearance? My belly: I’ve eaten too much bread and drunk too much wine over the last few years, so none of my suits do up.
Who would play you in the film of your life? Patricia Routledge.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? An actor.
Would you choose fame or anonymity? Fame.
What was the last lie that you told? “Sorry, I’m late, the traffic was bad”, is the one I tell every day.
What do you owe your parents? A home for most of my adult life. I moved out two-and-a-half years ago when I bought my first home.
What or who is the greatest love of your life? Bread – hopefully my boyfriend doesn’t read that.
What does love feel like? Security.
What was the best kiss of your life? An air kiss from Joanna Lumley.

What has been your biggest disappointment? Not understanding myself until I was in my 30s.
When’s the last time you changed your mind about something significant? Recently about Just Stop Oil. I used to think they were going about things in the wrong way, but now I think they’re right.

It’s tool time all over again .
For the next few months, outspoken comedian and “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen is back on the road performing stand-up comedy all over North America.
From May 19 through Aug. 19, the conservative performer — who recently got in trouble for flashing his co-star Pamela Anderson on the “Home Improvement” set in the ’90s — will bring his brazen brand of humor to six venues in Oklahoma, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois.
The 69-year-old comic isn’t afraid to cross the line with his material onstage either.
“I tell them ‘There’s a whole lot of s— I’m going to say tonight that you’re going to get pissed at,” he told Hour Detroit . “Let’s just get it out in the open.”
And if you need tickets to catch the opinionated and controversial version of live-action Buzz Lightyear live, last-minute seats are still available for all six of Allen’s gigs.
Some are fairly affordable to see the big-name actor in person too.
At the time of publication, we found Tim Allen tickets going for as low as $55 before fees on Vivid Seats.
Those prices are fairly consistent for the mini-tour — that being said, the June 23 show has much more expensive tickets than the others.
Want to see “The Santa Clause,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Wild Hogs,” “Last Man Standing” and “Christmas With The Kranks” actor do his thing uncut and uncensored onstage this summer?
Here’s everything you need to know and more.
All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Tim Allen is back on stage doing his original love: stand-up comedy. The television icon is traveling the country entertaining crowds, but he’s noticed a few marked differences from before the pandemic. Allen has some valid concerns, and they strike at the heart of the future of comedy, indoor entertainment, and how we will respond to pandemics in the future.
Tim Allen On His Struggles With The Pandemic
“Last Man Standing,” Tim Allen’s most recent hit sitcom, endured a rocky landing as it wrapped up during the pandemic.
Allen admits he struggled with the show coming to an end. But at least he could go back on the road to do stand-up, right?
Unfortunately, the beloved funnyman experienced problems there, too.
Allen, typically known for comedy that is unafraid to poke fun at the modern world, said he felt hesitant to incorporate jokes about COVID-19 into his act. Especially given the effect the pandemic had on his own friends and family:
“It’s a tightrope. I have a family member that passed away. I have neighbors that have passed away. Then I’ve had hundreds of thousands of people, a lot of which I don’t know, that had [COVID-19] and didn’t know they had it. This [has] been a very difficult navigation for a comedian. Is it funny for me to do? I printed out hats for a while that just said F-Covid on it. I was so angry with how it was separating my family that I was mad at this virus. Then some people at a local store said, ‘You think this is funny?’ And I had to say, I laugh sometimes because I have nothing else to give. … Sometimes it’s not appropriate, and that’s OK too.”
He was also hesitant about audience response. Allen thought jokes were bombing before realizing that maybe he couldn’t hear their laughter because it was muffled by their masks.
Via Cinemablend:
“[It’s a] big difference for a comedian to hear that muffled laugh. It wasn’t satisfying because it seemed like people didn’t like it. ‘No,’ they said, ‘You got a standing ovation.'”
But with mask mandates dropping all over the place, can comedy be saved, or are we doomed to masked laughter for all eternity?
Speaking of Masks…
I currently live in Los Angeles and, even here, mask mandates are starting to lift.
Now, without going into the more political reasons for whether certain mask restrictions stay or go, I will say that I am just happy I don’t have to wear an N95 to go into a gas station anymore.
But even as mask mandates lift – will things ever be the same? Some people might elect to wear masks forever while others will never don another mask. I can help but worry the mask issue will continue to be a needless divide among Americans.

So how do we turn the tide? That answer is always mainstream messaging. What’s acceptable and what’s not … according to those with power and platforms.
The mainstream media engine is already hard at work and we’ve seen the first big signal of the cultural shift. But does that mean the once taboo topic is safe for comedians like Tim Allen, too?
Does SNL COVID Dinner Sketch Open Door For Comedians Like Tim Allen?
COVID-19, a subject that was up until very recently completely taboo, was the focus of a surprise Saturday Night Live sketch on February 26.
The SNL skit featured a couples dinner where they took turns confessing their innermost doubts about mask mandates, vaccines, and more. Questioning the science has been a big no-no in mainstream Hollywood and so this SNL skit certainly marked a big pivot.
If a mainstream show like SNL is able to joke about mask mandates and the science, does that mean Tim Allen can too?
You can watch the SNL “COVID Dinner Discussion” skit featuring Kenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon, Bowen Yang, Aidy Bryant, and Heidi Gardner in the view below. While what they say likely won’t shock you – you might be shocked to see such statements uttered on NBC.
At the end of the day, I think we’ve all had enough of talking about masks. So let’s watch some brilliant comedy by Tim Allen instead. Enjoy!

Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. The Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom, “ Shifting Gears ,” from 20th Television. Allen is on board to star and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom pilot — which is still a working title — which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays Matt, the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Popular on Variety
Allen also most recently starred in, and executive-produced, the Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses.” In that series, he reprised his role as Scott Calvin/Santa. Also at Disney, Allen has served for decades as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s Oscar-winning “Toy Story” franchise.
As for the Scullys, their recent credits include the animated series “Duncanville.” Mike Scully is perhaps best known for his time on “The Simpsons,” on which he was an executive producer and showrunner for four seasons. He was also a producer on “The Simpsons Movie,” which was released in 2007. He has also worked as a writer-producer on hit shows like “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “The Carmichael Show,” and “Parks and Recreation.”
Thacker Scully was also a writer and co-executive producer on “The Simpsons” as well as shows like “Fuller House” and the animated series adaptation of “Napoleon Dynamite,” which Scully co-developed. She and Scully co-created shows like “Complete Savages” for ABC starring Keith Carradine and Erik Von Dettern and “The Pitts” for Fox, which was an early starring role for Lizzy Caplan. Both Scully and Thacker Scully have also directed in addition to writing and producing.

Tim Allen's New TV Show Cast Another Sitcom Vet As Daughter, And I Can't Wait To See Them Butt Heads
Five out of five manly grunts of approval.
Three years after Last Man Standing ’s finale reunited Tim Allen and his on-screen daughter Kaitlyn Dever , the stand -up comedian is aiming to return to network TV with a new ABC sitcom. And while Dever will presumably be too busy with The Last of Us Season 2 to pop by the set, Allen will indeed have another TV comedy veteran taking on the role of his character’s contentious and daddy-displeasing offspring.
Former 2 Broke Girls co-star and occasional MCU genius Kat Dennings has been cast in the in-development ABC pilot Shifting Gears for the co-lead daughter role, whose name will be Riley. It sounds like Dennings and Allen will possibly be at odds with one another, at least in the traditional television comedy sense, and I like the idea of the Dollface actress being an aggressive foil for the machismo-driven actor, whose character likely won’t be too far off base from what fans are used to seeing.
Who Is Kat Dennings Playing?
First, it should be noted that Kat Dennings is not only set to co-star in the new pilot, but she’s also set up to take on producer duties. That will presumably give her a bit more of a push to see it come to fruition with a series order. Not that she wouldn’t already by vying for its success anyway.
As far as fictional role specifics go, Dennings was cast in the role of Riley, who was often at odds with Allen’s Mike when she was growing up. She sealed her own fate by leaving home to get married to a boyfriend that certainly did not get Mike’s approval, and they apparently spent years estranged from one another. ( Dennings herself tied the knot in December 2023 to musician Andrew W.K..)
When the show picks up, Mike is the widowed owner of a paint-and-body shop that restores classic cars. And he can add “roommate” to that list after Riley makes her way back home with her two teenage kids, having divorced the high school sweetheart. The challenge then becomes trying to build up the loving relationship they never really had before, potentially with different car restorations as episodic metaphors for the stripped chassis of their bond.

The Shifting Gears pilot was written by The Simpsons vets and Duncanville co-creators Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who will also be executive producing alongside Tim Allen and other Last Man Standing alum Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. With Dennings producing, that’s a huge squad of sitcom familiars bringing their talents to this new project, so it seems pretty likely to get ordered up barring any huge whiffs.
Save for her lead role as Jules in Hulu’s Dollhouse , Kat Dennings has largely tethered herself to the MCU in recent years. Her Thor franchise character Darcy Lewis reemerged within the twisted world of WandaVision (which had its own sitcom connections, for what it’s worth), and then cameoed in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder . The actress also voiced Darcy across two episodes of Disney+’s What If…?

This would mark Dennings’ first network comedy role since 2 Broke Girls wrapped up on Fox in 2017, though she also lent her voice to an episode of The Simpsons that same year. Beyond that, her voice could also be heard in Dallas & Robo and Big Mouth , as well as one of her hubby’s 2021 music videos (“Everybody Sins”).
