Tour de Ski 2024: All the Dates, Distances and Facts.

7 stages in 9 days and 3 locations. On the menu there are races of all sorts: skate, classic, sprint, distance, and the iconic brutal climb up Alpe Cermis in Val di Fiemme (ITA).

The Tour de Ski is an annual highlight for many racers, but in a season with no major international championships, the prestigious stage race becomes even more important.

The schedule for the 18th edition of the FIS cross-country stage race features 7 stages in 9 days and as with all the previous 17 editions of the Tour de Ski, there will be blood, sweat, tears, duels and drama before the overall winners receive their trophies.

See complete schedule day by day below

The Tour de Ski is designed to be the ultimate test of skills, versatility, endurance and perseverance. Over the course of the various stages, skiers face both sprints, distance races, mass start and individual start events in both skate and classic technique. It all leads to the brutal finish of the competition with the infamous final stage up the alpine run Alpe Cermis.

For several of the Madshus racers, the Tour de Ski carries a little extra novelty:

Harald Østberg Amundsen (NOR), who was ninth overall in his first Tour de Ski two years ago, is super excited about the upcoming stage race.

“In my head, the Tour de Ski is super important. It's a concept that I find really exciting, and the Tour schedule for this season should fit my strengths to a T. The first time I did the Tour, I was ninth overall, but that's two years ago and I've come a long way since then,” says the 25-year-old, and continues:

“In order to excel in the Tour de Ski, you have to handle everything from sprints to distance events, and all the different formats. I have done pretty well in sprint races lately, and I've improved my classic technique a lot, two areas that I've put a lot of effort into and that are key in order to challenge the overall favorites. I think I'm in a position to do that now, and that fires me up a lot.”

Ben Ogden (USA) posted his best-ever result in a World Cup individual race during the Tour de Ski last year. In brutal conditions on day three of the 2023 Tour de Ski, the 22-year-old from Vermont was 6th in the 10-kilometer classic race in Oberstdorf (GER).

And finally, Edvin Anger (SWE) is looking at his first go at the Tour de Ski. Last year, the 21-year-old was named to the Swedish team to the 2023 World Championships just days before the Tour. He therefore opted to sit out the stage race in order to prepare for his first major championship at the elite level.

All about the final climb of Alpe Cermis The brutal Alpe Cermis signature stage of the Tour de Ski has been a part of the stage race since the very first Tour de Ski edition, back in 2007.

The final stage of the 2024 Tour de Ski is a little more than eight kilometers. The course starts at the World Cup stadium in Val di Fiemme. After a lap on the World Cup trails, the course joins the Marcialonga trail for about five kilometers down the valley before making a hard left. During the final 2.5 kilometers of the stage, the course climbs more than 400 meters.

Here is what you need to know The 2024 Tour de Ski starts in Toblach (ITA) on December 30, and concludes in Val di Fiemme (ITA) on January 7.

Cross-country Tour de Ski 2023/24: preview, full schedule, how to watch live

Norway's Johannes Klæbo is defending his Tour de Ski crown in the cross-country skiing event, with Jessie Diggins of USA going in as the favourite to land the women's title she last won in 2021.

Johannes Klaebo of Norway competes at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Planica, Slovenia.

The 2023/24 Tour de Ski in cross-country skiing gets underway with a sprint race in Toblach, Italy on Saturday, 30 December.

Can anyone stop reigning men's champion Johannes Klæbo from securing a third-consecutive crown?

Frida Karlsson is the reigning champion on the women's side, but the question is whether she will even start to defend her title. The star has struggled to find her best form since contracting COVID after the cross-country skiing opening event in Ruka, and 2021 champion Jessie Diggins is currently leading the overall season rankings.

The Tour de Ski, which is part of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, will see skiers compete in seven stages, moving from Toblach to Davos, Switzerland, before the finale on the famously steep and gruelling mass start in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Read on to find out all you need to know about the 2023/24 edition of the event, including the full schedule and top skiers to watch.

2023/24 Tour de Ski: Stars to watch

On the men’s side, Johannes Klæbo is the Tour de Ski favourite. He picked up where he left off last season and currently leads the World Cup overall rankings.

In fact, the reigning Olympic champion from Norway has won four races this year, which is 50 per cent of the season so far.

His compatriot, Harald Oestberg Amundsen is also having a good season and currently sits second in the overall standings after dominating the distance events.

Elsewhere, keep an eye out for another Norwegian, Paal Golberg , who won the 10km freestyle in Ostersund and is expected to be a medal threat.

On the women’s side, USA’s Jessie Diggins has taken full advantage of Frida Karlsson ’s fitness struggles to take the lead in this year’s overall rankings.

As a previous Tour de Ski winner, Diggins goes into the event as the favourite. However, she’ll have to be at her best to beat Sweden’s Ebba Andersson , who has won multiple times this season and currently edges Diggins in the distance events, as well as Emma Ribom , who currently tops the sprint charts.

The rooms and halls of the Grand Peterhof Palace

The Grand Palace along with the large fountain cascade in front of it is the main attraction of Peterhof and architectural dominant of the whole Palace and Park complex. In XVII – XIX centuries the Grand Peterhof Palace was the main ceremonial residence of Russian tsars, which hosted important events and celebrations, receptions, balls and masquerades. This monumentally looking building has about 30 rooms inside.

The Grand Staircase

The Guest Entrance was arranged in the Western part of the building and involved the Grand staircase created by Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1751.  The decoration of the Grand staircase included gilded statues and carved bouquets, caryatids and rocaille (that is made in the Rococo style) cartouches. The staircase leads guests to the enfilade which is a series of state rooms for official purposes.

• The Chesma hall is a waiting room located in front of the Throne room were officials were waiting for the start of the reception. Paintings by the German painter Jacob Hackert serve as the main decoration of the hall. They depict the most dramatic episodes of the Chesma battle in which Russian fleet headed by count Alexei Orlov defeated Turkish fleet.

• The Throne room is the most spacious one, designed for receptions, balls and concerts, with an overall area of 330 sq.m. Originally this hall shone in its splendor, but in 1777 it was decorated in a classic and more modest style under the project of Yury Felten

• The Audience room was intended for small receptions of the Empress Elizabeth. The design was done by Rastrelli and became one of the best works of the architect.

“According to a legend, Elizabeth ordered Rastrelli to use as much gold in the room design as possible, because the apartment was used for the reception of noble merchants representatives, who, in the opinion of the Empress, admired gold”

• In the eighteenth century The Dance hall was known as The Merchants hall and its spacious area of 270 sq.m. occupied most of the Western half of the Grand Peterhof Palace. The windows are arranged in two tiers here and numerous mirrors and paintings are used as decorations. Parquet is made of dark and light oak, maple and walnut. According to a legend, Elizabeth ordered Rastrelli to use as much gold in the room design as possible, because the apartment was used for the reception of noble merchants representatives, who, in the opinion of the Empress, admired gold.

• White dining room was meant for festive meals and was originally designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli. In 1774 – 1775, Yuri Felten significantly changed the hall – the new style was the complete opposite of the previous one. Instead of the gloss of gold the interior was decorated in strict classical canons. In the center of the room there is a huge table, covered with a white tablecloth and a 30 persons porcelain set, created by the famous English master Josiah Wedgwood.

• The Painting hall is the oldest one: it was designed during the life of Peter I. It is decorated with tapestries by French masters and 16 paintings by Italian artists. Originally Nicolo Michetti and Jean-Baptiste Leblond took part in creation of the room design, but later, in the middle of the XVIII century, the hall was changed by the project of Rastrelli.

The Throne Room

Ceremonial halls are followed by the rooms of the private half, which was accessible only to a circle of confidants. It housed bedrooms, private offices and salons, designed again by Bartolomeo Rastrelli. The abundance of gilding, mirrors and paintings, suspended symmetrical arches with plafond paintings and parquet floors made of precious wood – all these details create a festive atmosphere.

Currently, the Grand Peterhof Palace is a unique Museum of history and art, whose contains about three and a half thousand exhibits, including paintings and porcelain, fabrics, unique furniture and personal belongings of the Russian rulers.
