Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility Iron Review

Tour edge exotics c722 ti-utility iron.

Long irons. Arguably the hardest clubs to hit in the bag. Some players turn to hybrids, some players turn to game improvement irons, and some players stick with a butter knife blade that flights no higher than twelve feet off the ground. Many players are looking to replace their long irons with an option that comes in a more familiar package, but has high forgiveness and strong distance. For some, this is the mighty utility iron. In this case, the Tour Edge C722 Ti-Utility Iron is one of the cleanest long iron replacements I’ve ever tested with a compact profile, plenty of control, and tons of power.

Looks 3

Looks can be an immediate dealbreaker for players with utility irons. Making the club look like an iron while also packing in the technology necessary to make it more forgiving and longer is a tough task! Tour Edge did a great job finding that happy sweet spot with the C722 Ti-Utility’s looks. Heel to toe, the C722 Ti-Utility has a length similar to a “player’s distance” long iron. The lop line is a little thicker, as should be expected, to accommodate the wider hollow body. There’s also a little bit of offset blended into the head to help give you confidence over the ball. While not totally invisible, the C722 Ti-Utility’s body blends in nicely so the club doesn’t look too bulky from address, which is a big deal for me.

Feel 17

How Does it Feel?

I would summarize the Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility’s feel as balanced, clean, precise, and fast. The hollow body really does a lot for this club. First, it allows for ideal placement of the center of gravity (CG) which, combined with the clubs perimeter weighting and the adjustable weight, makes for steady balance and easy control. Next, the hollow body works with the “Beta Titanium L-Cup Face” to allow for more face flex at impact and forgiveness. This leads to more ball speed (greater distance) and a larger sweet spot, which is definitely noticeable. The ball absolutely jumps off of the face and you don’t have to find the dead center to hit a great shot.

While the C722 Ti-Utility’s sole is wider than your standard iron, it’s relatively thin as far as utility irons go. I felt this gave the C722 Ti-Utility the perfect crisp turf interaction with a nice forgiving glide . The sole is wide enough to prevent digging, but not so much that it feels too bouncy through the ball.

Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility Iron 2

How Does it Sound?

The Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility iron has a sound that is familiar to premium hollow-body irons of recent years. The sound is a firm “slap” or “whap” at impact that is consistent across a large portion of the face. It’s worth noting that the Ti-Utility’s hollow body is not filled with some sort of dampening resin and it still sounds as good as it does. Typically, a totally hollow body made out of titanium will sound similar to a metal wood that’s somewhat tinny and empty. Instead, the C722 Ti-Utility sounds satisfyingly firm and precise giving you great feedback at impact .

On-Course Performance

As I discuss performance in this section, I want to point out that I actually tested a 4 utility iron, and not the 3 pictured here. After taking photos, I decided I wanted to pursue this club as a possible 4 iron replacement so I made a switch.

There were two major takeaways from my testing of the Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility Iron. First was how easy it is to hit, and to hit well. I tend to be really inconsistent with utility irons, which usually brings a quick end to the experiment for me because I want them to replace my long irons with a more reliable option. In the case of the C722 Ti-Utility, I found it much easier to get on line and hit my targets . Not only that, but it was super easy to launch due to the lower CG and I was able to reach difficult distances.

The second major takeaway I had was how good the distance and power is. Stock shots were an effortless 210-220 yards, but I could also cover the ball and put a little “extra” on it. These shots could get well over 230 yards with a forcefully piercing flight. For me, this was clutch when I needed a longer shot and a hybrid had a little too high of a flight. The C722 Ti-Utility makes easy work of strong winds and goes real hard. I won’t necessarily call it a stinger, but it’s capable of some absolute lasers when you need them.

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility Iron

Utility irons are historically one of the most difficult clubs in all of golf for me to hit. Always have been. I’ve embraced their value and have seen glimmers of greatness with various experiments, but I’ve never found enough consistency or confidence with any of them. Then I ran into the Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility for this review.

I’m feeling pretty confident that the C722 Ti-Utility will be the 4 iron replacement I’ve been desperately seeking over the past few seasons. It’s easier to hit, more forgiving, and more accurate from a really difficult distance for me. I’m comfortable over the ball in almost every situation and feel I can execute any shot I need to hit. Assuming the honeymoon period doesn’t wear off, my biggest adjustment will honestly be not feeling defeated before I even address the ball from 4-iron range. That will be a major change for me that I think will take some time to conquer. I just need to allow myself to the trust the club and let the C722 Ti-Utility iron do the work. Once I’m able to do that, I’m confident I’ve found the solution I’ve been searching for.

What is loft.

Loft affects trajectory and spin rate and therefor it determines the distance the ball will travel. More loft typically generates a higher trajectory and more spin while lower loft causes the ball to fly lower and spin less.

OUR JOB IS YOUR GAME

Here are the results of our 2022 Most Wanted utility iron test.

Utility irons are not everyone’s cup of tea. But if a utility iron suits your game, it can be extremely beneficial.

Read on to find out if a utility iron can help your game.

MOST WANTED SCORING

We have reformulated our 2022 Most Wanted results to a 100-point scoring system. This new system better identifies golf clubs to potentially help you shoot lower scores.

For utility irons, we’ve split our key metrics into three categories: accuracy, forgiveness and distance. Each category is weighted through proprietary methodologies.

Data was collected using Foresight GCQuad Launch monitors . To minimize variables, all testers hit Titleist Pro V1 golf balls. Outliers were removed and data was aggregated before scores were calculated.

The accuracy category plays a vital role in every Most Wanted Test. Our accuracy score is determined strictly by Strokes Gained.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a measure of consistency. As such, our forgiveness metric seeks to identify the clubs that provide the most consistent result. Note: “consistent” doesn’t always mean “consistently good.” Our forgiveness metrics include:

  • Ball speed consistency
  • Spin consistency
  • Carry consistency
  • Dispersion area

Without question, distance is always a priority for most consumers. Our distance metrics are simple:

  • Carry distance
  • Total distance

BEST UTILITY IRONS OVERALL

Top of the board.

  • TaylorMade P790 UDI impressed throughout this test: accurate and long is a lethal combo.
  • The runner-up, Srixon ZX Utility won last year’s Most Wanted Utility Iron Test . Another stellar showing.
  • Tour Edge Exotics C722 TI-Utility claimed third place. Consistency is the name of its game.

BEST UTILITY IRONS FOR DISTANCE

TOP PICKS: TAYLORMADE P790 UDI , TITLEIST T200 , SRIXON ZX UTILITY

  • P790 UDI was the best for distance, almost three yards longer than the next closest competitor.
  • Titleist T200 racked up second-best for distance.
  • Srixon ZX Utility rounded out the top three. It makes for a solid option if distance is your priority.

BEST UTILITY IRONS FOR FORGIVENESS

TOP PICKS: TOUR EDGE EXOTICS C722 TI-UTILITY , PROTO CONCEPT C01.5 , SRIXON ZX UTILITY

  • Where consistency is key, Tour Edge Exotics C722 TI-Utility excels.
  • Throughout this year’s testing, Proto Concept’s products showcase tremendous consistency. Their C01.5 was the runner up for forgiveness.
  • If consistency is the name of the game, Srixon ZX Utility fits the bill.

BEST UTILITY IRONS FOR ACCURACY

tour edge utility iron

TOP PICKS: TAYLORMADE P790 UDI , SRIXON ZX UTILITY , TITLEIST T200

  • Accuracy can lead to more playable shot opportunities . This is where P790 UDI shines by capturing best for accuracy.
  • ZX Utility was sec0nd-best for accuracy with its solid distance and forgiveness scores.
  • Titleist T200 comes in third.

Utility Iron Buying Considerations

Performance should be your primary concern when buying a new utility iron but there are some additional factors you may want to consider before you make your purchasing decision.

Utility Irons Versus Long Irons

Long irons are a constant in the golf world. However, do you struggle to hit your 3-, 4-, 0r 5-iron consistently? Most golfers will likely answer with an emphatic “yes.” Utility irons offer more forgiveness than long irons. With wider soles and lower and deeper centers of gravity, utility irons can create more optimum ball flights. Be careful, though. With more optimum ball flight, you may see an increase in carry distance. Be sure to pay attention to your lofts to ensure efficient yardage gapping.

Utility Irons Versus Hybrids

For years, hybrids have served as long iron replacements. However, there are still golfers who prefer the traditional “long iron” look. Well, for those enthusiasts, switching to a utility iron may be the best option. Most hybrids are draw-biased. For those that hate a hook, a utility iron might be the better alternative. Also, if you are a golfer with a steeper angle of attack, utility irons may serve you well. Their tendency is to produce a lower, more penetrating ball flight. Be mindful of your gapping since hybrids tend to launch higher and may result in more carry distance than the utility iron.

Utility Irons Versus Fairway Woods

Arguably, fairway woods are most golfers’ kryptonite. They are one of the most difficult golf clubs to hit consistently. Utility irons offer a lifeline replacement for fairway woods. The downside: Most utility irons only offer, at their lowest, 16 degree of loft. Therefore, they are unlikely candidates as a 3-wood replacement. However, they can be used as direct replacements for 5-woods. Golfers with a steeper angle of attack may benefit from a utility iron. A utility iron offers a sleeker look, more workability and, potentially, more forgiveness than a 5-wood. Typically, utility irons will launch lower and fly shorter than a 5-wood so bear that in mind before you consider the switch.

When you are considering a utility iron, be wary of loft options. Some OEMs offer multiple loft options. Others only offer one or two loft options. Making sure the loft fits into your current set make-up is critical. Lofts ranging from 16.5 to 25 degrees from the OEMs are included in this year’s test.

Shaft Selection

As always, shaft selection is vital. Most utility/driving irons come stock with a graphite shaft. However, there are OEMs that offer steel shafts. Every shaft performs differently and produces varying launch conditions. Be sure to select the proper shaft that best suits your desired launch conditions.

Adjustability

In previous years, we’ve seen adjustable utility irons. This year’s test did not feature any. However, adjustability is your friend if it is available. With it, you can dial in an ideal loft that best suits your game.

FIELD NOTES

During each test, we look for trends that provide us with insight into where the market as a whole is moving as well as what noteworthy changes manufacturers have made to improve year-to-year performance. Additionally, we solicit feedback from our testers. We want to understand what they liked, what they didn’t like and why. Although we obtain their feedback, their subjective opinions do not influence, dictate or determine our testing rankings.

Trends and Tweaks

  • Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi features multi-material construction combined with Grain Flow Forged Chromoly Face for a “hybrid muscle-back” component.
  • Haywood SDI , Tour Edge Exotics C722 TI-Utility, Proto Concept C01.5 and Srixon ZX Utility all utilize a hollow-body design.
  • PXG, Titleist, TaylorMade and Tour Edge Exotics all feature tungsten-weighting properties.

Notes From The Testing Pool

The following section details subjective feedback from our pool of 20 testers. Gathering feedback is an important aspect of any test. We use their feedback as a representation of what golfers like and dislike about the product we test. That being said, the feedback is strictly subjective. It does not play a factor in the rankings.

  • PXG 0311 X Gen5   and Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi received the most compliments for their feel as did Haywood SDI .
  • TaylorMade P790 UDI, Titleist T200 and PXG 0311 X Gen5 were complimented the most for appearance and profiling.
  • The dark finish of the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi received mixed comments.
  • Srixon ZX Utility and Tour Edge Exotics C722 TI- Utility both gave off a clicky acoustic which was unappealing to testers.

BUYING A NEW UTILITY IRON

Q: When should I buy a new utility iron?

A: In most categories, it typically takes three to five years for manufacturers to make any significant performance gains. This is especially true in the utility category where performance breakthroughs are rare. A good bit of what changes comes down to shaping and cosmetics and, while that can alter performance from one iteration to the next, little in the way of revolutionary technology finds its way into the category. Our recommendation is to buy a new utility iron only when it appreciably outperforms what is already in your bag. Of course, if you want a new utility iron because you want a new utility iron, that’s fine, too.

Q: How do I know which utility iron is right for my game?

A: A proper club fitting with a professional will help determine what utility iron will suit your unique game. However, you can assess your own needs by determining what kind of shots you need to hit with your utility iron. Do you use the utility primarily off the tee or mostly off the turf? If you mainly use the utility iron off the tee, a lower-launching, lower-spinning model might help you get the ball running down the fairway. Conversely, higher-lofted, wide-soled, back-weighed utility irons can help you get the ball launching high and landing softly. Make sure to fully evaluate your game in advance of a professional fitting to help the fitter understand what you’re looking for in a utility iron.

Q: Does the shaft matter?

A:  Absolutely. While changes to spin and launch are rarely massive, shaft changes frequently lead to improved accuracy, tighter dispersion and greater overall consistency. We always recommend working with a qualified fitter. If that’s not possible, take the time to understand the different shaft profiles offered and how the performance of each might benefit or adversely affect your game.

Q: What should I look for when testing utility irons?

A: While golfers have been conditioned to consider distance to the exclusion of nearly everything else, we recommended looking at the little numbers and looking for small circles. When comparing metrics like distance and ball speed, be sure to look at your standard deviations (the small numbers usually found under the big ones on the data screen). Smaller numbers mean better consistency, which will usually benefit your score more than an extra yard or two. Similarly, look for tighter dispersion ellipses (small circles). We can’t overstate the importance of consistency with utility irons.

MOST WANTED

Q: What does Most Wanted mean?

A: We define Most Wanted as the best-performing club. Based on Strokes Gained, it’s the club that was shown to be in the top-performing group for the highest percentage of our testing pool. For more detailed information, see our How We Test page .

Q: How is the Most Wanted Utility Iron determined?

A: To determine the Most Wanted Utility Iron, we collect performance metrics with Foresight GCQuad Launch Monitors . To determine our overall rankings, we don’t just focus on averages. Instead, through proprietary methodologies, we determine the winner based on three key metrics – accuracy, distance, and forgiveness.

Q: How is the “Longest” Utility Iron determined?

A:  To determine the Longest Utility Iron, we again look past the raw averages to consider the average total yards across the test pool along with the statistical reliability of that data.

Q: How is the “Most Forgiving” Utility Iron determined?

A:  To determine the Most Forgiving Utility Iron, we focus on a narrower set of metrics that includes:

Q: How are the utility irons in the test fit to each golfer?

A:  We use a fitting process that we call  fit from stock . Irons are fitted to each tester using the stock, no up-charge options from each manufacturer. We test utility irons ranging in loft from 17 to 19.5 degrees. While less so in this category, adjustability is growing in popularity. When movable weights or adjustable hosels are available, we make every effort to optimize each club for each tester. Occasionally, manufacturers will send multiple sets with different stock shafts that we can utilize to improve launch conditions.

Q: How much does subjective feedback like looks, sound, and feel factor into your rankings?

A:  ZERO. Our rankings are based purely on launch monitor data and quantifiable performance metrics.

The P790 UDI is only available in 17* – isn’t that why it would be first for distance given th others you tested were probably 19*????

Ping Crossover rules them all for me. Easiest to hit by a long shot, pun intended. Why no Ping in test?

Was this test specific to only Utility irons that were released this calendar year? because it feels noticeable light in the depth chart?

I know 2021’s Titleist U505 is still part of their active line-up and that was last years runner up, so I’m surprised they only tested the T200 which isn’t that just a 2-iron option and not really a utility iron?

still interesting all the same, as a utility iron player I’m always curious to see what’s new (although i only really upgrade club categories about once a decade ha)

Please had “Not available in left handed” as a Con. As a left handed golfer, disappointment always follows when I find a club not available to me.

I’ve been interested in the P790 UDI for years. How does this compare to previous versions? Also, is there a way to tell apart the versions from different years?

Phillip Bishop

The design of the clubhead is slightly different, especially the placement of the name & logo, I believe.

Andrew the Great!

So I’m reading reading reading, and the more I read the more I wonder, how can they do this kind of thing over and over and over?! Are these embedded ads really enough to fund their research??

And then, for the first time I can ever remember seeing this, I see your donation request! I figured, it’s a sign.

So I donated. I encourage like-minded folks who read this to consider donating, too. I didn’t do much, just a one-time $25 gift. I hope enough others follow suit and donate, and keep MGS in business.

????????????

Only tested 8 clubs, pretty disappointed about this. Here are a few other manufacturers that have clubs in this category that I would have expected to be included: Wilson, Cleveland, Cobra, Ping and Ben Hogan

Is there a reason why these were not? Other than Hogan, I can buy all of these others at my local golf store. I know Callaway has stopped making their X Forged UT, but that is another one that would’ve been in this category.

I second this. Even in the UK most of these extra utility irons are readily available.

Interesting article as always lads.

I don’t get the small sample size at all. MyGolf Spy is big Sub70 fans and they weren’t in the test either.

I agree, and with Titleist the T200 is there but no U505? Maybe we should all be hitting that donate button a little more often…

Hi Jim! I totally understand your disappointment. We made the decision to only test the newest products for 2022. A majority of the products listed were included in last year’s test. You can check those out here – http://mygolfspy.com/2021-most-wanted-utility-iron/

Agreed! Where is the U-505? I know its not “New” but its the current model being offered by Titleist. for the average golfer. The T200 U is for low handicaps and tour pros.

U-505 was tested last year and performed well. Highly recommend it based on last year’s results. You can find those results here – http://mygolfspy.com/2021-most-wanted-utility-iron/

So all the top Utilities felt/sounded crappy … lovely

Again, merely subjective feedback. Some may appeal to you. Let performance dictate your next purchase :)

I have Srixon which does sound a bit clicky as they indicate, but I actually like that sound/feel more than most irons. None of them are going to have blade feel..

Mulligan Mac

I’ve been gaming the Srixon ZX 2-iron for a few weeks now. Perfectly satisfied with it. It replaces a Ping Crossover. I can confirm that it has a “unique” sound when struck. It is not anything annoying. Just different. I wouldn’t call it a click but a “tink,” if that makes sense. Again, I’m perfectly satisfied with its performance. It’s doing exactly what I hoped. I can game it off the tee or fairway.

Happy to hear the ZX Utility is working great for you. It is definitely a unique sound.

Tour Edge Exotics C722 Irons Review

More in reviews:.

Mitsubishi Diamana Putter Shaft

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons are fast and long, but they don’t give up anything in terms of shot shaping and stopping power.  Great, solid feel.

Check out the new Tour Edge Exotics C723 irons HERE

tour edge utility iron

Introduction

Last year, Tour Edge Exotics dropped the category-busting C721 irons [review HERE ].  Call them players irons, call them distance irons, call them game improvement – either way you’re right and wrong.  For 2022, TEE had the unenviable task of trying to improve on that.  I tested the C722 irons to see if they could.

Check out the new Tour Edge Exotics C722 Ti-Utility Iron HERE

tour edge utility iron

In the bag, the Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons look very similar to the C721.  The “cavity” portion has been reshaped and given a different visual texture, but the rest remains the same.  A Tour Edge Exotics logo sits in the toe just above the C722 designation.  Opposite the TEE logo is a call out to the Vibrcor technology.

tour edge utility iron

At address, the top line of the C722 is thinner than the C721 .  There also appears to be less offset .  This pushes the C722 away from the game improvement category, at least visually.  The blade length isn’t oversized, but it’s not compact either.

Compared to its line mate, the E722 [review HERE ], the C722 irons have much thinner top lines and much less offset.

tour edge utility iron

Sound & Feel

Tour Edge Exotics has put a tremendous focus on sound and feel in the last few years, and that shows in the C722 irons.  Despite being a hollow body iron, the C722 is extremely solid .  It feels like you’re delivering a gut-punch to the golf ball, knocking the wind out of it.  This strong feel is paired with a quiet “thud” – easily the quietest impact sound of any hollow iron I can think of .

TEE’s Dual VIBRCOR Technology enhances the feel without robbing the C722 of feedback.  As you move away from the center of the face, the sound gets a little louder and transitions from “thud” to “snap.”  There is also some feedback through the hands, but it’s subtle.

tour edge utility iron

Performance

Tour Edge Exotics calls the C722 an “ultra premium player’s distance iron.”  Like so many categories, “player’s distance” is ill-defined, but I’d suggest we start using the C722 as the benchmark.  This is a true players iron in terms of launch, spin, and shot control but it also manages to be impressively long and forgiving.

tour edge utility iron

To start my launch monitor testing, I ran the Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons against my gamer PING Blueprints [review HERE ].  This isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison by any means, but I wanted to see how much of the “players-ness” the C722 gave up in the name of distance.  The answer: none.  From the long irons through the scoring irons, the launch and spin numbers from the two sets were virtually identical .  This is particularly hard to believe given that there’s as much as a four degree difference in loft, but it’s true.

There are several reasons why it’s so important – and impressive – that TEE kept the spin in these irons.  Most obviously, spin is a big part of what keeps an approach shot on the green .  No one wants to see an iron shot land pin high, then bounce and run over the back.  Additionally, spin is what allows players to shape shots .  For an iron to carry the “players” moniker, I think that should always be an option.

tour edge utility iron

Where the C722 and Blueprint diverged was on ball speed, and diverge they did.  Thanks to the Diamond Face VFT and Maraging Steel L-Cup Face, the C722 has ball speed on par with the fastest irons available .  In the long irons, the smash factors easily climb into the high 1.4s.  The C722 irons left the Blueprints in the dust with enhanced ball speed translating to at least an extra club of distance .

Finally, the other massive advantage of the C722 irons is consistency.  With their hollow body design and strong perimeter weighting, the C722s deliver predictable launch, spin, and speed shot after shot.  This means that whether you’re striking it like a true player or having an off day, you can rely on repeatable distances from your irons.

tour edge utility iron

The Tour Edge Exotics C722 irons truly deliver on both sides of the “player’s distance” promise.  These irons have all the spin you need to shape your shots and stick the landing on the green.  That’s paired with tremendous ball speed and enough forgiveness to get you through some bad swings.  The C722 irons show that you can get the best of both worlds.

Great review and thanks! I am guessing these fall in the same category as P790s, Ping I525, T200s and other players distance. Pricing seems attractive relative to the other brands as does stock shaft offerings. You have tempted me!

' src=

Have not played those irons but Made in THE U. S. A. Good thing !

' src=

I believe they are built in the USA but some components are not made in the USA.

' src=

Hi Matt! I’ve been anticipating this review. Did you experience a marked difference between these and the C721’s in terms of 4i/5i launch/spin and also overall performance and feel? The C722’s sound seemed more muted per your review. Finally, how did the C722 gap wedge stack up to your current gap wedge?

' src=

I would say the difference is measurable but probably not noticeable, for most golfers. The C722 GW is a lot faster than my Edison, but I prefer the smaller head and thinner sole.

' src=

Thanks Matt. Considering new irons soon. I am impressed with the 7 wood and 3 wood I added to my bag.

' src=

On my third set of tour edge irons started with geo bazooka back in 2011 now on EXS irons, this current set is great and I don’t intend changing for a few more year yet, the only issue I have with tour edge is they change there clubs all the time I brought the EXS 3 & 5 fairway woods with turf interaction soles but the latest model doesn’t have this this to me says that development was a gimmick if it wasn’t and it was a true game changer they’d still be using it David Glod is very good at blowing the trumpet for tour edge’s latest clubs when really the previous 2 models are just as good these new irons also have what appears to be stronger lofts which also helps with distance. But I still would change them for any other major brand, I just thing if you buy them be prepared for them to be out of date within a year or possibly less lol,

I think “out of date” is the wrong way to look at it. Any change in a club comes with pluses and minuses. Rail soles are good for turf interaction, but they limit the designer’s ability to move CG. I look at it as, “In year 1, they offered a club for players who need help with turf interaction. In year 2, they offered something for players who need higher CG.” There is no perfect club which is why we always emphasize the importance of fitting.

' src=

Hi Matt The triumph of these irons seems to be incorporating the longer shafts and stronger lofts without compromising spin and playability. Have you ever hit a comparably successful “player’s distance” iron?

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of another players distance iron with this much spin.

' src=

Matt, great review and these look like trying out. One thing you don’t mention that could be important for many-price! I was at Golf Galaxy today browsing irons. The Callaways (which I love), Titleists, et. al. run about $1,300, whereas the TEE C722 & E722’s were $700 & $800, or vice versa. The price of premium irons (along with many other things) have become outrageous.

' src=

Very good review. I love my Tour Edge C721 driver and fairway woods and was awaiting the review on these irons. When I hit the lottery these irons are one of the first things on my shopping list. Thanks again for an awesome review.

' src=

Matt, How do these compare to PXG 0211 DC? Tks Guy

I have a full review of the 2021 0211 irons here: https://pluggedingolf.com/2021-pxg-0211-irons-review/

' src=

Hi Matt. I’m waffleling between the C722 and the P790 My main concern is there is not a lot of shaft choices with the tour age. Currently I have been fitted into The dynamic gold 105 stiff Of the choices that Touredge offers what would be closer to the shaft I’ve been fitted to

I would suggest contacting Tour Edge to see if you can order them with the Dynamic Gold 105, or ordering them through a builder who will make them to your spec. A new iron set is a big enough investment that, in my opinion, stock shaft choice should not be the deciding factor.

' src=

Ultimate question. Since these have just as much spin as your Blueprints, but more forgiveness and more distance: will these be replacing the Blueprints in your bag?

Or are they not as workable, and shotmaking pleases you more than controlled distance?

High praise from you in any case.

No, I’m not looking to replace my irons at this time. I discussed why I change my clubs so infrequently here: https://pluggedingolf.com/podcast-episode-136-when-to-replace-your-clubs/ To this set specifically, I’m really not looking for more distance. I wish I could get the forgiveness without the added distance, but that’s rare, maybe impossible. Part of not wanting more distance is how infrequently I play and not wanting to learn new yardages.

Matt, Being a low spin player, looking for the highest spinning and/or descent angle iron to better hold greens. Do you have any comparison as to the higher spin in clubs you have reviewed? thanks,

If you need more spin and you don’t want to be in a blade/players cavity back, this is as high spin as I can think of.

' src=

Nice review! You hit it … the key to buying any set of irons is get fitted. If you’re going to spend your hard earned money it pays to get fitted!

' src=

Just replaced my entire bag of clubs, including the bag, as mine were stolen at tournament in Cincinnati. I’m 65 a 4 index, and finally made the move to graphite. Make sure to get fitted. My bag: 722C driver and 5-gap edge 722E 3 wood 16.5 and 4 hybrid 22 degree All in Blue Ventus Reg. Flex Big change for me in shafts….. Just got em report later.

Product Description

The new compact shape with added offset of the C722 Ti-Utility Iron combines the look, feel and workability of a traditional forged iron with the extreme distance of a metalwood. This is a perfect long iron replacement club for players looking for the faster ball speeds, lower spin and optimal sound and feel properties. Beta Titanium L-Cup Face - The 722 Ti-Utility Iron features a Beta Titanium L-Cup Face combo brazed onto a 431 stainless steel body. The Titanium L-Cup Face wraps around the leading edge, acting as a hinge to provide maximum power and ball speed from more contact points on the face to produce the ultimate in perimeter weighting distance and forgiveness. Combo-Brazing Technology - Combo-Brazing is a unique, distance-boosting process in which the titanium cup face is fused to the heavier steel back of the club without having to weld the two materials. Combo-Brazing reduces a large amount of weight out of the sole and back of the clubhead, allowing the clubhead to be more compact and the have optimal CG placement that produces a greater transfer of energy from club to ball. Hollow Body Design - This hollow-body iron design of the 722 Ti-Utility offers the best in perimeter weighting. The design allows for perfect weight distribution and maximum forgiveness in the clubhead and allows for increased face flex, and the ability to have a thinner face and a deeper CG in a thin-sole iron design.

Highlights:.

  • Experience medieval Kitay Gorod (China town).
  • Wander picturesque Red Square and Alexander Garden.
  • Explore grand Christ the Savior Cathedral on our Red Square tour.
  • Breathtaking panoramic views from Patriarch bridge.
  • Enjoy a hearty lunch on the large open verandah and marvel at the stunning views of the Kremlin.
  • Learn about Russian culture from the local through relaxed cultural discussions.

Tour Itinerary:

Red square:.

Russia and Moscow are synonymous with Red Square and the Kremlin and that's hardly surprising as you'll find these places absolutely stunning!

  • - Walk-through the Resurrection Gate and don’t forget to flip a coin so you’ll be sure to come back one day!
  • - Visit the world's famous Kazan Cathedral .
  • - See the State Department Store (GUM), once the Upper Trading Stalls, which were built over a century ago and still operating!
  • - Admire the lovely St. Basil's Cathedral! The French diplomat Marquis de Custine commented that it combined "the scales of a golden fish, the enamelled skin of a serpent, the changeful hues of the lizard, the glossy rose and azure of the pigeon's neck" and wondered at "the men who go to worship God in this box of confectionery work".
  • - Walk by Lobnoye Mesto (literally meaning "Execution Place", or "Place of Skulls"), once Ivan the Terrible's stage for religious ceremonies, speeches, and important events.
  • - Entering the Alexander Garden , you’ll take in spectacular views of Russian architecture from ancient to Soviet times, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame. Watch Changing of the Guard Ceremony every hour in summer and every half an hour in winter.

Kitai-gorod:

Stroll along medieval Kitai-gorod with its strong ancient Russia feel, known for its bohemian lifestyle, markets and arts.

  • - Nikolskaya Street. Here you will find the Russia's first publishing house, the second oldest monastery, and Ferryn Pharmacy, known as the number one pharmacy back in Soviet times and famous for its Empire-style architecture.
  • - Ilinka Street. The financial street of the Kitaigorod (China Town) district, where you’ll find the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant’s Yard), which is now a showroom for Ferraris and Maseratis. The street was designed in the 1790s by Catherine the Great.
  • - Varvarka street. The oldest street in Moscow, which dates back to the 14th century, and still has remnants of early Muscovite architecture, such as the Old English Court and the Palace of the Romanov’s.
  • - Kamergersky Lane. Only a small road of about 250 meters, it is home to some of the oldest artifacts of the city, as each building holds a fascinating story. Some of Russia's most famous writers, poets, and composers from as far back as the Golden Age of Russian culture, have lived or worked on this lane.

Historic City Center

Walk the historical old center of Moscow with its cool local vibe, including the main Tverskaya street , and indulge in desserts in the first grocery “Eliseev's store” , housed in an 18th century neoclassical building, famous for its baroque interior and decoration.

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:

At 3:30, as energy flagged, lunch was on the agenda at a Ukrainian restaurant.  Just in time!  We asked our guide to order for us.  We all had the same thing....borscht (the Ukrainian version has beans and more tomatoes than the Russian version, which has more beets and includes beef).

The special high bread served is called galushki.  Our main course was golubtsy...a dish of minced meat rolled in braised cabbage leaves.  Both dishes called for optional sour cream as a topping....of course, yes, please....I recommend it.

Full, satisfied, and completely refreshed, it was off to Red Square and St. Basil's and GUM department store.  Red Square is not so named because of the color of the brick walls of the Kremlin.  Rather the word for 'red' and the word for 'beautiful' are similar in pronunciation....and, there you have it.

As we made the turn by the National Museum in front of which is the mounted sculpture of the "Marshall of Victory," Giorgy Zhukov from WWII and caught our first view of St. Basil's, my friend and I simultaneously emitted "Oooohhhhh!"  There it was....the iconic onion domes of St. Basil's!  Hooray....it was open until 7....we had about 30 minutes and were allowed in, AND we could take photos with no flash.

Now, I can give you a taste of what we saw in the other cathedrals in Cathedral Square.  What we learned is that St. Vasily and St. Basil are one in the same....Russian/English.  He was a common man who wandered Moscow unclothed and barefoot.  But, all, even Ivan the Terrible, heeded his opinions derived from his visions.  Ivan had this cathedral built over his tomb.

As we exited and took photos up close of the onion domes, Inna presented us with chocolate (how did she know we were ready for another energy boost, and we each got a big piece of chocolate.  The baby's name pictured on the wrapper of this famous Russian chocolate is Alyonka....the Russian Gerber baby, don't you think?

One could wear out the credit card in GUM's (capitalized because it is actually a government abbreviation), but the 'kitty' and my credit card stayed in my pocket as we strolled through the glass-topped arcade.

We then strolled through some of Moscow's lovely pedestrian streets; paused to listen as a wonderful quartet performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in an underground passage to cross the busy street (hooray!....we DID have our 'classical concert' experience after all; a request Alina tried in vain to fill because none was scheduled those days), saw the Bolshoi, which means 'big' (my friend has yet to recover that their performance schedule did not coincide with our cruise), saw the Central Telegraph Building, dating from the 1930's, and made our way to the Ritz-Carlton to see the night view of Moscow from the rooftop bar, called O2.

There were fleece blankets to wrap yourself in....yes, it got that cold when the sun set.  We each ordered something hot to drink...the ginger, mint, lemon tea served to me in a parfait glass (for 600 rubles...about $9....you pay for the view here!) was delightful and hit the spot perfectly.  It was time to call it a night....

Kremlin tour – daily (closed on Thursday)

With its 20 towers and high walls, the Kremlin rises imposingly over Red Square. This world-famous fortress with its area of 28 hectares is home to over 800 years of Russian history. Described as the eighth wonder of the world, this historic fortress complex is the principal symbol of Russia that sits on the banks of the Moscow River. Today the Kremlin still harbors numerous secrets and has palaces and cathedrals, surrounded by Kremlin Wall.
