The main objective of this paper is to ignite a discussion on the challenges in tour guide training dilemmas as well as reviewing the tour guide training paradigm with specific reference to Turkey. Also named as interpreters, cultural representatives, cultural brokers, pathfinders and mediators from different perspectives, tour guides have their righteous position in nearly all tourism systems. Turkey, a country boasting about rich cultural heritage, is technically faced with a three-fold tour guide education structure, which is practised at (1) two-year associate’s degree programs, (2) undergraduate programs and (3) certificate programs, offered by the National Union of Tourist Guides’ Chambers. At the end of each program, participants are entitled to be a licensed tour guide, which sparks a fierce debate on who holds the authority. What’s more, notwithstanding the fact that tour guiding is offered at tertiary education level, which is governed by the Higher Education Council, National Union of Tourist Guides’ Chamber, a trade association, at the legal level assumes the responsibility on legislation procedures ranging from tour guiding regulations to curriculum design, where the conflict gets deeper and deeper. Touching on some global tour guiding education systems, this paper sets out to shed some light on the challenges and issues on tour guiding with specific reference to Turkey and seeks an answer to the question of whether an internationally-adopted curriculum framework is feasible.

Intrigued by the difference in enrolment for tour guide training programme this paper tries to identify concerns that are important to trainee tour guides from northern and eastern regions. Paper is based on response from a sample of trainees who attended RLGTP programme. Study identified 6 broad factors of concerns to individuals who are considering becoming tour guides and 16 variables with significant difference.

It is important to understand that tour guides play an important role in a tourist experience at a destination. As a frontline line service provider they leave a lasting impression. Since tourism has multiple stake holders, each have different expectations from tour guide. Accordingly at different places and times, different roles have been envisaged for tour guides. This paper is a review of literature scanning the importance of tour guides; roles that different stakeholders and researchers have outlined for guides; the challenges they face; and, the debate on building competence of these guides. This paper evaluates different opinions to understand what guides should be expected to do. There is very little reference to researches that analyse challenges that tour guides face. Paper also tries to assimilate research references to challenges to tour-guiding. Last section reviews research related to approaches to guide competence building.

Taking into account changing demand, the author of the article starts with classifying types of guiding services and makes reference to specialist literature related to conventional guiding (part 1), and then proceeds to describe a few novel methods of providing such services in urban areas. Options on offer in various European cities are used as examples of mixed types of guiding services: “driving guide”, “guide and shopping adviser” and “guide-lecturer”. In each case the description includes guide’s duties and requirements which must be met by those providing such services. The author also points to the possible use of each type in options on offer for specific groups of travellers. The third part contains a detailed description of the guide’s role in dramatized tours, and his or her possible contribution to “questing”, an increasingly popular form of tours taken by visitors on their own.

Tour guides are one of the key front-line players in the tourism industry. Through their knowledge and interpretation of a destination's attractions and culture, and their communication and service skills, they have the ability to transform the tourists’ visit from a tour into an experience. The role and duties may not be that glamorous as the profession, in many countries, lacks a well-defined career path and their incomes are reliant on a variety of income sources. Service professionalism has become an important issue as destinations compete for tourists in a very competitive environment, especially in Asia as it reels from the effects of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. This study examines the nature of tour guiding in Hong Kong, assessing the existing level of professional service standards, and identifying issues and challenges facing the profession in the 21st century. Tour guiding issues were identified through an extensive series of in-depth and focus group interviews. Based on the findings, a set of recommendations was formulated. A key recommendation includes the establishment of a monitoring system to ensure high standards of service performance by the tour guides. It is recognised that the experiences faced by the Hong Kong tour guides are unlikely to be unique and there may be some issues and problems raised that are common to the guiding profession in most other countries. However, very few studies about the professional status and issues faced by the tour guiding profession have been reported in the English-based literature and this study would represent one of the first attempts to do so. In sharing the Hong Kong experience, there will be some lessons to be learnt for those in other countries, especially as the profession continues its efforts to improve the status and service professionalism of tour guiding throughout the world.

The following article examines different educa-tional systems for tour guides in Slovenia as well as abroad. Based on the survey carried out among tour guides and tours managers in Slovenia their opinion on the usefulness of knowledge gained in the process, their viewpoint on the current form of education and the level of difficulty of obtain-ing a license for a tour guide or tour manager was investigated. In addition, their viewpoint on pro-posed new contents and forms of education was examined. Finally, a two-way system of educa-tion for tour guides, i.e. professional tour guides and part-time tour guides and tour managers, was proposed.

Here, we show that mutagenic manipulation of PGRMC1 phosphorylation alters cell metabolism, genomic stability, and CpG methylation. Each of several mutants elicited distinct patterns of genomic CpG methylation. Mutation of S57A/Y180/S181A led to increased net hypermethylation, reminiscent of embryonic stem cells. Pathways enrichment analysis suggested modulation of processes related to animal cell differentiation status and tissue identity, as well as cell cycle control and ATM/ATR DNA damage repair regulation. How do i train to become a tour guide, how do i train to become a qualified and approved tourist guide.

There are a number of education establishments holding training courses for Regional and National Tour Guides. Most of these courses take place from late autumn until spring. It is very important that you check accreditation before you enrol l. You need to ensure the chosen course is awarded with a QQI level 6 Special Purpose award.

Create and add an email signature in Outlook

In Outlook, you can create one or more personalized signatures for your email messages. Your signature can include text, links, pictures, and images (such as your handwritten signature or a logo).

Note:  If the steps under this New Outlook tab don't work, you may not be using new Outlook for Windows yet. Select Classic Outlook  and follow those steps instead.

Create and add an email signature

On the View tab, select   View Settings . 

Select Accounts > Signatures .

Select    New signature , then give it a distinct name.

In the editing box below the new name, type your signature, then format it with the font, color, and styles to get the appearance you want.

Select Save when you're done.

With your new signature selected from the list above the editing box, go to  Select default signatures and choose whether to apply the signature to new messages and to replies and forwards.

Select Save again.

Note:  If you have a Microsoft account, and you use Outlook and Outlook on the web or Outlook on the web for business, you need to create a signature in both products.

Create your signature and choose when Outlook adds a signature to your messages

Open a new email message.

Select Signature from the Message menu.

Under Select signature to edit , choose New , and in the New Signature dialog box, type a name for the signature.

Under Edit signature , compose your signature. You can change fonts, font colors, and sizes, as well as text alignment. If you want to create a more robust signature with bullets, tables, or borders, use Word to create and format your signature text, then copy and paste it into the Edit signature box. You can also use a pre-designed template  to create your signature. Download the templates in Word, customize with your personal information, and then copy and paste into the Edit signature box. 

Type a new signature to use in your email

You can add links and images to your email signature, change fonts and colors, and justify the text using the mini formatting bar under Edit signature .

You can also add social media icons and links in your signature or customize one of our pre-designed temlates. For more information, see Create a signature from a template .

To add images to your signature, see Add a logo or image to your signature .

Under Choose default signature , set the following options. 

In the E-mail account drop-down box, choose an email account to associate with the signature. You can have different signatures for each email account.

You can have a signature automatically added to all new messages. Go to in the New messages drop-down box and select one of your signatures. If you don't want to automatically add a signature to new messages, choose (none). This option does not add a signature to any messages you reply to or forward. 

You can select to have your signature automatically appear in reply and forward messages. In the  Replies/forwards drop-down, select one of your signatures. Otherwise, accept the default option of (none). 

Choose OK to save your new signature and return to your message. Outlook doesn't add your new signature to the message you opened in Step 1, even if you chose to apply the signature to all new messages. You'll have to add the signature manually to this one message. All future messages will have the signature added automatically. To add the signature manually, select Signature from the Message menu and then pick the signature you just created.

Add a logo or image to your signature

If you have a company logo or an image to add to your signature, use the following steps.

Open a new message and then select Signature > Signatures .

In the Select signature to edit box, choose the signature you want to add a logo or image to.

Insert an image from your device icon

To resize your image, right-click the image, then choose Picture . Select the Size tab and use the options to resize your image. To keep the image proportions, make sure to keep the Lock aspect ratio checkbox checked.

When you're done, select OK , then select OK again to save the changes to your signature.

Insert a signature manually

If you don't choose to insert a signature for all new messages or replies and forwards, you can still insert a signature manually.

In your email message, on the Message tab, select Signature .

Choose your signature from the fly-out menu that appears. If you have more than one signature, you can select any of the signatures you've created.

Automatically add a signature to a message

You can create an email signature that you can add automatically to all outgoing messages or add manually to specific ones.

Select Settings   at the top of the page.

Select Mail >  Compose and reply .

Under Email signature , type your signature and use the available formatting options to change its appearance.

Select the default signature for new messages and replies.

Manually add your signature to a new message

If you've created a signature but didn't choose to automatically add it to all outgoing messages, you can add it later when you write an email message.

In a new message or reply, type your message.

If you created multiple signatures, choose the signature you want to use for your new message or reply.

When your email message is ready, choose Send .

Note:  Outlook.com is the web version of Outlook for users signing in with a personal Microsoft account such as an Outlook.com or Hotmail.com account.
