  • gebbie5 20 Nov 2007 All ages were welcome in Tsilivi Tsilivi has a long safe beach. You can walk out for miles without worry of undercurrents or attacks from jellyfish. The area itself is safe and not overtaken by larger louts. There are enough restaurants to eat somewhere different every night - in fact we have been two years running and only went into Popeyes Restaurant more than once. The bars are friendly and there is something for everyone. We often walked along the beach late at night and the water was still warm enough to paddle in, and we never felt threatened as everyone is friendly. There is a bowling alley for those who have teenage children who need entertaining, horse drawn carriage which take you around the resort, crazy golf, reptile house, play areas for children including a bucking bronco and gocart (for the under 5s) and artists who will paint your picture and henna tattoist who will paint your body. We have never had a bad meal in any of the restaurants in Tsilivi. The prices are cheap. As a family of five (all eating adult courses) I never paid more than 50 euros for main course including drinks. Popeyes is a well know restaurant which is situated in a prominent site. We drank in Enigma every night and everyone is welcoming. Enigma is also a nightclub which had a hypnotist in one night a week. All ages were welcome. It is worth wondering all over the resort as there are restaurants and bars hidden in side streets as well as on the main road. Planet pub is also another favourite with karaoke, dancing and friendly bar staff.
  • gv_dlr 18 Oct 2007 Lively resort Tsilivi is a touristy resort in Zakynthos. I was there last year in September. Although it was the end of the busy greek summer holidays season I was surprised that the restaurants and bars were lively. There is an amazing variety of bars and restaurants there. The beach is nice and comfortable and longer than a mile. I would recommend the resort of Tsilivi to everyone of any age or taste. I recommend the visit to the Red Lion which propose a lot of nice coktails. Also the Popeye's restaurant is amazing.

Tsilivi tourism.

Also known as Planos, Tsilivi is a village and a tourist resort on the island of Zakynthos, Greece. This resort town on the northeastern coast has recently risen to fame among international travelers. Unfortunately, there is not much to do in Tsilivi, and the town is usually preferred for luxury getaways.

Tsilivi houses a 2-km long, warm sandy beach studded with sunbeds and bars. It is an excellent location to spend time with family and engage in some watersports like parachuting and jet skiing. The beach has also been given a blue flag, which means it is tremendously clean. Tourists often like to travel by speedboat from Tsilivi to the Blue Caves and Smugglers Cove, two of Zante's most notable sights. Tsilivi is also famous for wine-tasting tours, even though most of the wineries in Tsilivi are family-run; and within a limited setting. The Venetian tower, located towards the north of Tsilivi, is an ideal place to witness the stunning sunset. A 20-minute drive from Zante, Tsilivi is usually preferred by families for weekend getaways. However, new waterparks and other experiences have been flourishing in Tsilivi for some time now, adding to a wholesome experience.

Must Know Before You Travel to Tsilivi

  • Most places in Tsilivi are within walking distance. For farther distances, hire a bike or a car. However, the local shuttle remains the easiest and cheapest mode of transport.
  • The beachside Taverns of Tsilivi offer traditional and international cuisine alongside the experience of traditional dances.
  • Luxurious villas and resorts are located near the seaside.
  • For more budget-friendly options, stick to the city center.
  • If traveling from Zante or other eastern beach resorts, hire a boat and travel around the islets on the west side of Zakynthos before reaching Tsilivi
  • The main street of Tsilivi is studded with souvenir shops, eateries, bars, and excursion offices that open late at night. However, this bustling street starts to empty around 1:00 AM since most of the nightlife moves to Zante.

National Marine Park

The National Marine Park of Zakynthos (N.M.P.Z.) is situated on the southern most part of the island. The Presidential Decree for its establishment was signed on the 1st of December 1999 by the President of the Greek Republic. The Marine Park's objectives are the preservation of the natural environment and conservation of the ecological balance between the marine and coastal area of the Laganas Bay and the Strophadia Islands. Venetian Castle

Bohali hill is located on the outskirts of Zante town. There you will find the ruins of the old Venetian Castle. The entrance gate has the Venetian symbol “The Lion of Saint Mark”. Built in 1480, part of it was destroyed by invading Turks shortly after. It was repaired from 1514 and became the capital of the island for a brief time. On the same location, there once stood an acropolis. The castle is surrounded by pine trees offering tranquility, as well as a beautiful view of Zakynthos town, the Ionian Sea and the Peloponnese.

Image

Shiza Cross

In the mountain village of Kambi, on the cliff called Shiza, you will see a huge cross. It was built in the memory of all those lost during the Greek Civil War and World War 2. The view from this point is astonishing and it is favoured by many in order to admire the sunset on one of the cafes and traditional tavernas in the area.

Image

Vardiola (a.k.a Viglatsoura)

On the north part of Tsilivi beach you will see a Venetian “Vardiola”. It is a stone built outpost that was used as an observatory in order to let the locals and the authorities know when enemy ships were approaching. It is still standing after all these years and is well worth the visit.

Zakynthos is an island with a rich history. This is obvious from the many museums. The Byzantine and post Byzantine museum has many interesting exhibitions and the Solomos and Kalvos museum has many of the personal artifacts of these two famous Zakynthians and other prominent ones. There is also the museum of Grigorios Xenopoulos, a famous play writer and journalist that features original manuscripts, furniture and personal items. On Bohali hill you will find a Naval Museum that has the reputation of the best collection of Byzantine Vessels worldwide. You must also visit the Vertzgio Folk museum in the village of Pigadakia which is a reconstructed traditional Zakynthian manor furnished and decorated with original Zakynthian pieces.

Marathonisi and Pelouzo Island

There are two beautiful small islands off the coasts of Zakynthos worth visiting: Marathonisi and Pelouzo Island.

Marathonisi is located in the gulf of Laganas, across the coast from Keri. It is protected by the National Marine Park as it is a breeding area for the endangered Caretta Caretta turtle. It is rich in vegetation and has two beaches, one with sand and one with pebbles as well as some caves. You can visit the island for a limited time frame so the island never gets crowded, but only during the day. The island resembles the shape of a turtle and it is also called Turtle Island. There are no shops, but there is usually a boat that sells drinks and snacks.

Pelouzo Island is situated within the Laganas Bay, 2 nautical miles far from the opposite beach of Daphni. It is also protected by the National Marine Park because of the turtles and rare fish that live in the area. It is accessible only by swimming (about 2 hours from the beach of Dafni), dingy or canoe. The island is slightly mountainous with one beach, a cave and the ruins of a building. Overnight stays are forbidden.
