Vancouver Island

Club pro series, code of conduct.

pgabc_edited.png

The Vancouver Island Club Pro Tour strives to create a social, yet competitive tournament atmosphere for Vancouver Island PGA of BC members.

Eligibility :

All competitors must be PGA of BC Members in good standing and priority will be given to PGA of BC Members who are employed full time by a golf facility. Determinations of full-time employment will be at the sole discretion of the VI Club Pro Tour committee. Full-time employment must be confirmed by the event’s registration deadline or when an event reaches capacity, whichever comes first

It’s the member’s responsibility to know if they are a member in good standing (If they are listed on the PGA of BC website under the title – professionals, they are a member in good standing). If the member is not in good standing, they will forfeit the cheque(s) earned at tournament (s) during this time.

A member is not permitted to play the Club Pro Series if they are playing a ‘major’ golf tour during the BC golf season (March to October) in the same season.

Registration:

Registration for events will NOT be accepted verbally, by email or by social media (Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter). There are NO exceptions to this rule.

Registration must be confirmed via round attendance email. Entry fees are due via electronic payment and must be immediately submitted upon confirming attendance. Failure to pay entry fee may result in player being placed on the waitlist for future events.

Late Withdrawl from Event

Registration for a VI Club Pro Tour event will close the Friday prior to the event date, with the draw being released the Saturday before Tuesday's event. If the event has a waitlist, then the draw maybe released earlier at the discretion of the VI Club Pro Tour Committee. Withdrawals that occur less than 48 hours prior to the start of an event will be subject to a fine and will be placed on the wait list for all remaining events on that season's schedule.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received at least 48 hours prior to the start of an event by emailing theVI Club Pro Tour Committee at [email protected] . Failure to cancel properly will result in the player forfeiting 100% of his/her entry fee for that event, in addition to any fines imposed. The entry fee, and any fines imposed, will have to be paid before entry into further events is permitted. Appeals may be made in writing within 24 hours and will be reviewed by the VI Club Pro Tour’s Committee on a case-by-case basis.

Clubhouse Leader:

Following the round the player(s) who are currently leading must stay out of respect to the tour and participants unless prior arrangements have been made. The eventual winner will be given the opportunity to speak and may be required to participate in a post-win interview.

Female Competitors:

Female competitors participating in Tour events will play from a forward tee in which the yardage is approximately 10% less than the tees used by male competitors.

Order of Merit:

Each competitor receives order of merit points for playing in each event.

Ties: The process for deciding ties for first place will be decided by the host tournament committee. All other ties split money and or points.

Pace of Play:

The tour will arrange to have groups play in threesomes where possible, to maintain proper pace of play. Also, as a condition of membership, a player in an early group will be expected to return to the golf course and monitor pace of play of the remaining field. If an individual or group is determined to have been slow:

1st offence : Official Warning 2nd offence: Two stroke penalty 3rd offence: Disqualification from event . 4th offence: Player will be suspended from competing in Club Pro Series events for the remainder of the year.

In the case where individuals causing a group to be slow cannot easily be identified, the entire group will receive the warning.

Appearance/Conduct:

All professionals are required to present a neat appearance in both clothing and personal grooming. You are required at all times to maintain an acceptable standard of dress both on the golf course and in the clubhouse. Shorts are permitted at any VI Club Pro Tour events but at the discretion of the host club. The VI Club Tour Committee will do its best to inform players of any restrictions. Players must attempt to be competitive and must conduct themselves in a professional manner:

1st offence: Official Warning

2nd offence: Disqualification from event

3rd offence: Player will be suspended from competing in VI Club Pro Tour events for the remainder of the year. *Additional discipline may be administered if a serious violation of professional code of conduct has occurred.

Return of Scorecards:

Upon completion of play, failure to return scorecards in a timely manner may result in disqualification. For the purpose of applying Rule 3.3b, a competitor is considered to have returned his scorecard when he has first left the scoring area.

Any player failing to return a scorecard (DNF):

1st  offence : Player will be omitted from the TOUR’s Order of Merit and Scoring Average standings.

2nd  offence : Player will be suspended from competing in TOUR events for the remainder of the year.

*Additional discipline may be administered if a serious violation of professional code of conduct has occurred.

A player must not play a practice stroke or roll a ball on or near the putting green of the hole last played. The penalty is two strokes to be applied on the last hole played, to a maximum of four strokes. In the case of a multiple round tournament being played at one course, practice on the course between rounds is prohibited. In the case of a multiple round tournament being played at more than one course, practice on the course yet to be played is prohibited. Penalty is disqualification .

Inclement Weather Policy:

The purpose of this policy is to provide an equitable alternative to cancelling a round  experiencing inclement weather.

Inclement Weather includes, but is not limited to:

– Heavy Rain, puddles preventing putting on the green

– Thunder and Lightening

– Darkness

– Strong Winds, dangerous conditions

In the event of inclement weather after the start of the event, but before all groups finish, the Tour reserves the right to abbreviate the stipulated round (also the skins game) to the maximum number of holes deemed to be playable by all competitors, but a minimum of 9 holes. If such conditions limit the number of holes deemed playable to less than 9 holes, the entire round will be cancelled .

All decisions not covered in the Inclement Weather Policy shall be made by the committee, in consideration of equity to the field.

“By entering an event on the G&G Tour, I have agreed to adhere to the Tour’s policies and procedures.”

YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

By entering an event on the Vancouver Island Professional Tour, you agreed to adhere to the Rules of Golf, PGA of Canada’s Code of Professional Practice, PGA BC Tournament Manual, and VI Club Pro Tour’s policies and procedures as stated above and throughout this website.

Social Media:

The following Policy is courtesy of the PGA of Canada, and applies to all members of the British Columbia Zone. For more information regarding the PGA of Canada Code of Professional Practice & Social Media Policy, please click here.

Online social networking and media sites are powerful tools that can benefit the PGA of Canada and its Members greatly, and without limiting our Members’ ability to utilize these valuable tools, online activities must be governed with a degree of care. The PGA of Canada encourages the use of social media including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other similar outlets as a way to interact and raise your profile.

As part of our Association’s Code of Professional Practice, it is essential to extend rules governing Member behaviour to these online social media networks, as by participating in and contributing to these sites as individuals, Members still bear the responsibility of appropriately representing the PGA of Canada as a membership organization and its values. It is essential that Members understand that utilizing social media to communicate with family, friends, fans and the general public leaves them open to scrutiny by the public and the media and may reflect on the PGA of Canada and the game of golf.

The PGA of Canada has developed this Social Media Policy for the protection of its Members. Where possible the PGA of Canada has condensed this policy to provide a basic outline of guiding principles that you as a PGA of Canada Member should keep in mind and adhere to at all times when participating in social media activities.

This Social Media Policy attempts to cover all forms of social media including but not limited to;

Maintaining a profile page on one of the social or business networking sites (like LinkedIn and Facebook, etc.);

actively engaging in live feed social media communication such as Twitter;

producing online video content on YouTube or similar mass media sites;

creating a blog or commenting on other people’s blogs for personal or business reasons;

leaving product or service reviews on retailer sites, or customer review sites;

taking part in online votes and polls; or

Participating in conversations on public and private web forums (message boards).

Most of these activities can be grouped together under the heading social media.

Anything you do online where you share information that might affect fellow PGA of Canada Members, work colleagues, clients, industry partners, sponsors, competitors, golf club members, Pro-Am partners and industry participants will hereafter be referred to as ‘the Scope’.

Guiding Principles:

The web is not anonymous. Assume that everything you write can and will be traced back to the PGA of Canada as an Association, if not you personally.

There is no longer a clear boundary between your personal life and your work life

Do not lie, deliberately deceive or withhold the truth

The web contains a permanent record of our mistakes. We cannot try to change things retrospectively

Be honest, straightforward and respectful, and you will enjoy everything you do on the web

Social Media Policy All Media:

This policy is to be read in conjunction with other clauses in the PGA of Canada Code of Professional Practice. For the sake of clarity, whatever you do as a PGA of Canada Member online must:

Not interfere with your work commitments or the place you work . In the absence of a specific policy within the workplace of a PGA of Canada Member, this policy may apply as a complementary policy;

not mention or link to libelous, defamatory or harassing content, even by way of example or illustration;

not publish information that is confidential or proprietary to the PGA of Canada  or your workplace, affiliates, or clients;

refrain from using offensive language; and

Do nothing to bring the PGA of Canada into disrepute. Furthermore, you may not represent that the PGA of Canada brand endorses or promotes any product or service, opinion, cause or position; and it must be abundantly clear to readers that all opinions are yours, and do not represent the views of the PGA of Canada .

PGA of Canada Member Blogs:

Posts must not contain or link to pornographic or indecent content

Posts must not be defamatory in any way to either a fellow PGA of Canada Member (or any other person or company).

The PGA of Canada has the right to request and ask for removal any such content that maybe deemed as contravening this policy

All materials published or used must respect the copyright of third parties Personal Blogs, Social Networks, Forums, Micro blogs , Social Mews, etc.

Anonymous or Pseudonymous—The PGA of Canada takes the position that a Member will write as though everyone knows who they are.  The PGA of Canada does not endorse a Member hiding behind anonymous or pseudonymous postings. A PGA of Canada Member shall not maintain anonymous accounts on social media sites for the purpose of accessing or commenting on other people or products relating to the PGA of Canada. Named Your profile when commenting on PGA of Canada related matters (as per the Scope) should include an explicit statement that you are a Member of the PGA of Canada , including the following minimum information: “I am a PGA of Canada Member”

Friends & Connections—Use your own best judgment in deciding whether and how deeply to connect to fellow Members, clients, peers, supervisors, vendors and journalists on social networks. Connections to certain individuals or profiles that are represented may unwittingly cause harm to yourself and the PGA of Canada if not managed wisely.

Comments on Blogs, Forums, etc. by PGA of Canada Members:

Anonymous—You must never post anonymous comments particularly as they relate to matters involving your status as a PGA of Canada Member and The Scope.

Pseudonymous—For various reasons, sometimes you may want to comment using a nickname. It is advised that any PGA of Canada Member should write as though the audience would still know who they were.

Named—Include an explicit statement that you are a PGA of Canada Member, as appropriate and when relevant. Consider carefully when something may be relevant. A comment on a friend’s blog or wall is still a comment in a public space. Be guided by the content of your comment, not the context.

A rule of thumb is “Don’t say something your mother wouldn’t approve of.”

The PGA of Canada Member and Live Feeds of Member Social Media Pages:

The PGA of Canada utilizes a number of online communication tools in order to raise the profile of its Members, promote Members’ vocational and tournament activities, and assist them to engage with a number of stakeholders including the media, potential sponsors and the public.

Disciplinary Procedures:

This Social Media Policy forms part of the PGA of Canada’s Code of Professional Practice.

Vancouver Island, the Only Year-Round Golf Destination in Canada

All Square profile picture

Known as the Garden City, Victoria is the capital city of the province of British Columbia on the Pacific coast of Canada . Situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is 100 km from the mainland and Vancouver, the largest city in western Canada.

Vancouver Island is the only area of Canada that offers year round golf. December and January are typically rainy and the coldest months of the year, nonetheless most courses remain open for the diehards. The most comfortable stretch to play is March thru October as daytime highs average 20C and the region receives less than 25 mm of rain monthly.

Crown Isle Golf Course

Crown Isle Golf Course

Head north along the east coast of the island and in approximately one hour you will descend into the scenic Comox Valley and the par 72 treasure that is Crown Isle. This Graham Cooke offering was opened in 1992 and is a spectacular example of Vancouver Island Golf. The architect was presented with a property containing eleven lakes and he incorporated them into a menagerie of picturesque vistas to distract your eye and challenge your shots. Several tees are elevated and not only set up their respective holes, they also provide stunning views of the Comox Glacier and the nearby Beaufort mountain range.

At 7025 yards from the back tees, Crown Isle is a study in ball placement and course management. The best illustration of the target golf model would be the third hole, a 425 yard par 4 dogleg left that forces you to work a tee shot between fairway bunkers at the the apex of the corner. If successful, the player then faces a long iron or hybrid approach to a well bunkered green that sits at an angle to the fairway and has contoured aprons to expel any errant shots. The precision demanding par 3 sixteenth is a 183 yard carry over water to a green with your only bailout to the left, as there is a bunker in front as well as one behind, plus another pond to the right. The resort course has a superb practice area for warm-up or to iron out the kinks after you’ve completed the 18 hole test.

Olympic View Golf Club

Olympic View Golf Club

In 1994 as a member of Western High School, an 18 year old Eldrick “Tiger” Woods had the privilege of playing Olympic View Golf Club . Woods won the individual title in that two day event, although he did confess to hitting four balls in the water over the 36 holes. This Bill Robinson design will inevitably have you rinsing some Titleists of your own, as there are no less than twelve lakes incorporated into the layout. The views of the Olympic Mountains in nearby Washington State serve two purposes, obviously the naming of the track as well as providing some spectacular views from different elevation points on the property.

The golf course itself is wonderful, naturally contoured fairways defined by rock outcrops and groves of redwood trees, marshy water hazards with reeds and bulrushes, undulating greens that are receptive and pure to the roll and five sets of tees to allow all level of players to feel comfortable. The iconic seventeenth hole features a 40 foot waterfall that is your target from the tee some 455 yards away. As you journey down the fairway of this difficult par 4, you pass several rock shelves and ledges as well as an elegant  Japanese garden. With such tranquil beauty, score is almost irrelevant on this postcard worthy route. Prior to leaving for your 20 minute drive back to Victoria, stop in the spectacular circular clubhouse for apres-golf and reminisce about a round you won’t soon forget.

Highland Pacific Golf Course

Highland Pacific Golf Club

One of the newest additions to the Vancouver Island Golf Trail is the mountain style Highland Pacific Golf Club located only 15 minutes from downtown. Built under the watchful eye of architect Chris Young, the Pacific Nine opened in 2008 with the Highland Nine starting play in 2010. Stretching out to 6603 yards from the pro tees, you are treated to incredible views of the Olympic Mountain range, Thetis Lake and the Juan de Fuca Straits in the Pacific Ocean. Try not to be distracted by the views if you’re trying to score well however, as this layout can be a true test of your ability.

As you stand on the first tee your initial impression is that there are no flat landing areas to play towards. You’re best to accept this realization as the rolling terrain will force you to understand that in mountain golf your target from the tee is often not where you would like your ball to come to rest. Working shots off the slopes or laying up before downhill or uphill grades is the prescription for success here, as virtually every hole involves both ascents and descents in their design. The putting surfaces follow the natural contours of the acreage and roll as purely as any greens you will ever play. The postcard like view from the eighth tee on the Highland loop includes the Juan de Fuca Straits set behind the skyline of the the city of Victoria, and then a horizon of water that extends to infinity. This 385 yard par 4 requires a real commitment to your target from the tee, where driver is not required, and realistically not recommended. Once you’ve reached the fairway, you’re faced with a downhill approach to a multi contoured green where finding the right hollow the hole is located in is paramount to three putt avoidance. As with many of the holes on this fascinating property, score is often secondary to the cerebral satisfaction the vistas provide as your adventure progresses.

Bear Mountain Golf & Country Club

Bear Mountain Golf & Contry Club

One name associated with greatness in golf is Jack Nicklaus and as the only golf complex in Canada to host two of his 18 hole projects on the same property, Bear Mountain is a must play when in the Victoria area. Whether your first choice is the Mountain Course or the Valley Course , shortly after you’ve played one track you will be wanting to tee it up on the other. Set atop an 1100 foot mountain elevation, the Mountain Course is a par 70 that plays to 6900 yards from the tips. The rugged routing is highlighted by dramatic elevation changes often including semi-blind tee balls or approaches. The large receptive greens are sedate and fair, holding approach shots well and rolling true. The opening nine takes you from the clubhouse up through the forest of large evergreens and you continue to climb to the mountain summit where you then encounter the fourteenth, perhaps one of the most picturesque and unforgiving downhill 165 yards you’ll ever face. With no bailout offered, your only salvation is that the hole is short enough to allow for a short iron or wedge in your hands. It is all downhill to the clubhouse from the fourteenth tee in what is one of the friendliest finishing stretches you will experience on a Golden Bear designed golf course.

When playing the 6800 yard, par 71 Valley track, you will immediately recognize the differences from its higher elevation sister. While your long game won’t be as severely tested, the greens are far more undulating and will challenge first your ability to read greens and next your skill at executing the required stroke. With wider fairways and better sightlines than its bunkmate, the Valley routing is no less scenic. Native grasses and marshlands are complemented by natural outcroppings that help to aesthetically contour the holes to fit the players eye, exactly as Jack intended. The par 5 eighteenth is the perfectly suited wrap up to this examination of your skills as you play a rolling fairway downhill to a receptive green that offers you a chance to finish with a possible birdie or even better.

As an accompaniment to the fantastic pair of championship courses is the Westin luxury hotel with outdoor pool, spa services and fine dining available to satisfy your stay and play desires. Only minutes from the Harbour in downtown Victoria, Bear Mountain is host to the Pacific Links PGA Champions Tour event held every September.

The people who inhabit Vancouver Island are nationally recognized as having the best lifestyle and least stress of any Canadians. Surely the weather and pace of living attribute to their collective wellness, however you can’t underestimate the value of having some of the finest golf experiences in Canada if not the world right in their very backyard.

IGA & VGT - Preparing Tomorrow’s Champions

Since 2006, IGA STORES OF BC has been supporting the  Vancouver Golf Tour  (VGT) as its umbrella Title Sponsor.  Through this 18-years of support, IGA has enabled VGT to provide BC’s local professional, amateur and junior golfers the opportunity to develop their tournament skills and raise their confidence in a PGA Tour-like environment all across the Lower Mainland.

Whether it be An Amateur claiming their own Handicap or age division title or an aspiring young Professional looking to gain experience to play on a Worldwide Tour, VGT’s mission statement has always been to ‘ Prepare Tomorrow’s Champions ’!

The Vancouver Golf Tour prides itself in growing the game of golf in British Columbia.  Thanks to IGA’s 18 years of support, VGT has conducted over 500 tournaments for the BC golf community, providing exceptional tournament experiences for over 4,500 registered golfers over the same time period.

Through the format of their events, VGT offers local  Amateurs  a very unique opportunity to compete against top local Professionals in a majority of their events. “Our tour is giving our young rising stars (juniors and amateurs) a chance to compete head-to-head against the best professionals in our province on a regular basis. “We are giving Canada’s young stars an opportunity to see how some of Canada’s top local professionals play the game and play their way into a pro grouping on day 2 or 3 of our Major Series events, an invaluable experience for elite Junior and Amateur golfers” says  VGT  Commissioner Fraser Mulholland. “We are proud of the fact that some of Canada’s top local Juniors and Amateurs have used  VGT  as a platform to measure their play against some of Canada’s top Pros. This really instills confidence in their games when they can see where their scoring lies compared to some of our marquee pros who have played on worldwide golf stages as professionals”.

Producing PGA TOUR Champions

PGA TOUR sensations, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin (from Abbotsford, BC) both enjoyed local success as young Professionals on the VGT.  Adam earning his first 4 Professional wins in 2009 on the VGT, while Nick won his first Pro event (as an Amateur) on the VGT in 2010.  Adam would end up recording a total of 8 VGT tournament wins, while Nick would etch his name on a total of 12 VGT tournament trophies from 2010-2013.

In 2014, VGT achieved its mission statement’s goals on a whole new level when Alumni Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor both graduated from the WEB.COM to secure their status on the PGA TOUR!

And fast-forward 10 years later, both Adam and Nick have gone on to achieve so much success, both becoming PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS , Adam with two WEB.COM TOUR wins and one PGA TOUR win, and Nick going on to earn four PGA TOUR wins, with the most memorable coming at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open with a 72 foot winning putt in dramatic fashion!

vancouver island pro golf tour

Both Nick and Adam have proudly represented Canada on the international stage, first teaming up at the World Cup of Golf in 2018 (4th place finish), and then Adam twice qualifying for the President’s Cup in 2017 and 2019.  Both Adam and Nick are looking to represent Canada again at the 2024 Olympics and at the 2024 President’s Cup in Montreal.

Two more VGT alumni, Adam Svensson (a 5-time Amateur winner on the VGT) and Roger Sloan (2-time player) have gone on to achieve major successes in golf.  Svensson winning on 2x on the KORN FERRY TOUR and once on the PGA TOUR, and Sloan winning 2x on the KORN FERRY TOUR. Both are currently members on the PGA TOUR in 2023-24.

VGT prides itself on preparing its local golfers.  The road to the PGA or LPGA TOUR is extremely difficult to achieve.  A number of VGT players have gone on to succeed well beyond the VGT.  On PGA Tour Canada, VGT Alumni have taken home a total of 11 Championships and multiple Canadian Player of the Year honors!

Player Development, Recognition and Awards

Since 2006, the top ranked player on the VGT Order of Merit has been awarded a paid entry or cash award to compete at the PGA Tour Qualifying School. (now WEB.COM Q School). Since 2010 (thanks to our partners) three VGT awards have also been established; a $1,000 IGA sponsored ‘Rookie of the Year’ Award, a $1,000 “Top Srixon Tour Player”, and a $1,000 ‘Most Improved Player’ of the Year Award.

In 2021, thanks to IGA’s support, VGT established an annual player development fund and has awarded over $60,000 in awards and bursaries to its most deserving pros, amateurs and junior golfers.

Over the past 17 years, thanks to IGA’s incredible support, VGT has also paid out over $4.5 Million in pro prize money and amateur prizing to recognize player successes. Our goal is to reach over $5 Million in payouts through the end of 2024!

vancouver island pro golf tour

Thanks to IGA’s continued support, VGT has also played a significant role in giving back to the community, working hand-in-hand with a number of charity golf events.  Over the past 17 years, VGT has played a part in raising over $900,000 for charities ( BC Alzheimer’s Society, Prostate Center at VGH, Hadassah Hospital, The FIRST TEE & Make A Wish Foundation ). VGT has also personally raised over $125,000 for various fundraising initiatives in the same period through initiatives at the Vancouver Open Charity Pro-am including Kids Up Front, the CKNW Orphan’s Fund, the First Tee Program, Habitat for Humanity , and the VGT Player Fund.

Membership & Event Growth

The IGA Vancouver Golf Tour has grown rapidly, expanding its database from 120 players in 2007 to over 4,500 full and part-time golfers participating in VGT events in 2023. The tour schedule has also developed significantly from 12 events in 2007 to over 40 events in 2024 that now includes Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter Tour schedules. The VGT has become widely recognized as  Western Canada’s Premier Developmental Golf Tour.
