Hi Mudasir, Currently there is no extension for tourist visa.

I am planning to travel from Jaipur to Seattle via two separately booked flights (Jaipur -> Doha) and (Doha -> Seattle). I will need a transit visa to collect the luggage at Doha and re-check in for the forward flights. I have a 5-hour layover so I am not planning to go out of Doha airport. I am an Indian national with an L1-B US visa. How much time it will take to get a transit visa at Doha to collect the luggage once I land there? Will it be free of cost? If not then what is the cost per person? Is there a way to apply for it online or it will be done only at the Doha airport upon arrival.

Hi Om, Since you have a US visa, you can apply for an ETA Visa. This will make sure you don’t face any delay. Please see: https://www.dohaguides.com/qatar-eta-visa-online/

As reported by the Ministry of Health yesterday, visitors to Qatar must have a health insurance policy from February 1, 2023. so, is Health insurance also required for those family visa visitors who already have been approved and planning to travel on Feb 23? is Health insurance required in-addition of travel insurance to enter in Qatar?

Hi Ali, Travel insurance normally comes with health coverage. Please check this article: https://www.dohaguides.com/health-insurance-for-visitors-to-qatar/ If your insurance company is among the MOPH listed ones or meets all the listed conditions, you can proceed with same insurance. Or else you need to check with MOI.

Getting a visa before you travel

If you’re not eligible for a visa on arrival (please see eligibility criteria above), then you need to arrange a visa before you travel to Qatar. The required documents for companions of GCC citizens include a valid passport, the GCC citizen’s residence permit, return tickets (if arriving by air), proof of accommodation arrangements in Qatar, confirmation of entry from the country of residence, and approved medical insurance coverage.

Qatar Visa Fees for GCC Residents and Overstay Penalties

To ensure a smooth and efficient visa application process, GCC residents are required to pay a visa fee of 100 QAR (approximately 27 USD) . This fee can be conveniently paid online via debit or credit card during the submission of the application.

It is crucial to note that overstaying in Qatar beyond the authorized visa validity period can result in substantial penalties. A fee of 200 QAR (approximately 55 USD) will be imposed for each day of illegal overstay, highlighting the importance of adhering to the prescribed visa duration.

The Benefits of the Unified GCC Tourist Visa

The introduction of the unified GCC tourist visa is poised to bring numerous benefits for regional travelers, unlocking a world of convenience, flexibility, and cost savings:

Travelling to Europe has become much more convenient for GCC and Indian visitors. The European Commission has approved new regulations for the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman who live in their home countries.

Under the new system, Saudi, Bahraini and Omanis will now have access to multiple-entry visas, allowing them to travel to 25 out of the 27 EU countries using the same visa within five years.

Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels.

This implementation has significantly simplified the process of obtaining a Schengen visa, making it much more convenient for eligible applicants, even first-time applicants. They can now look forward to receiving a multiple-entry visa that remains valid for up to five years, relieving them of the stress of frequent visa applications.

"The European Commission has adopted new rules for the issuance of Schengen visas for Saudi, Bahraini and Omani nationals residing in their home country. It is an important step promoting people-to-people contacts and facilitating exchanges between the EU and GCC citizens," the delegation of the European Union in GCC posted on X.

Kuwaitis can be issued with long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for five years. UAE nationals enjoy visa-free travel to the Schengen nations, permitting stays of up to three months at a time. However, a Schengen visa is a must for UAE residents.

Additionally, the European Commission adopted specific rules on issuing multiple entry visas to Indians. Under the new regulations, Indian travellers are now eligible to obtain a two-year Schengen visa, a significant enhancement compared to the shorter validity periods previously offered.

To qualify for this extended visa, applicants must have obtained and used two Schengen visas within the last three years in accordance with the regulations. Upon successfully utilising the two-year visa, travellers can typically anticipate eligibility for a five-year Schengen visa, subject to the maintenance of sufficient passport validity.

This decision comes in the context of strengthened relations under the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, which seeks comprehensive cooperation on migration policy between the EU and India, with the facilitation of people-to-people contacts being a key aspect due to the importance of India as a partner for the EU.

These changes ease the visa application process and facilitate smoother travel experiences.

Schengen visas allow the holder to travel freely in the Schengen area for short stays of a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. The visas are not purpose-bound, but they do not grant the right to work. The Schengen area consists of 29 European countries (of which 25 are EU states): Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

USCIS to Open International Field Offices in Qatar and Turkey

WASHINGTON— U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced the upcoming opening of international field offices in Doha, Qatar, and Ankara, Turkey, to increase capacity for refugee processing, strengthen strategic partnerships, and facilitate interagency cooperation.

“Opening these field offices establishes a USCIS presence and expertise in critical locations in the Middle East and is part of our commitment to the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to facilitate safe, lawful, and orderly migration and family reunification,” said USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou. “Our presence in Qatar and Turkey expands USCIS’ footprint outside the United States, supports our humanitarian mission, and strengthens the integrity of the U.S. immigration system.”

The Biden-Harris administration set the refugee admissions ceiling for fiscal year 2024 at 125,000 refugees. Establishing USCIS field offices in Qatar and Turkey will support the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program’s infrastructure in the region. It also will directly support long-established and increasing USCIS refugee processing circuit rides.

Qatar is a critical location and a regional refugee processing hub. Refugee coordinators from the U.S. Department of State’s  Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), as well as a suboffice for the  Resettlement Support Center for the Middle East and North Africa , are already in Qatar. USCIS’ Doha Field Office will be located in the U.S. embassy facility at Camp As Sayliyah,   and staff will also periodically meet with the public for scheduled appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Qatar.

Turkey is also a critical location and regional refugee processing hub. The headquarters office for the  Resettlement Support Center for Turkey and the Middle East is in Turkey, as are  PRM refugee coordinators and a regional office for the  United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees . USCIS’ Ankara Field Office will be located in the U.S. Embassy Ankara.

USCIS staff will assume responsibility for processing  Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition , from State Department consular staff, assist with certain fraud detection-related activities, and provide other limited services. Services at both locations will be available only by appointment. USCIS will update the  International Immigration Offices webpage to include information about the field offices, services and appointments.

With the opening of the Doha Field Office on May 7, 2024, and the Ankara Field Office on May 9, 2024, USCIS will have 11 international field offices. Other international field offices include Beijing; Guangzhou, China; Guatemala City; Havana; Mexico City; Nairobi, Kenya; New Delhi; San Salvador, El Salvador; and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
