Busted through the years from their debut hit to their 'Greatest Hits 2.0' album
They have now released a live and extended version of their album
Busted reunited and announced their '20th Anniversary' tour in March 2023, as well as releasing their 'Greatest Hits 2.0' album , which now has a live and extended version . And if that wasn't enough, in 2024, the band will be going back on tour!
Starting out more than two decades ago, Busted formed with the line-up James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson, and released their debut song 'What I Go To School For' back in 2002.
Take a look at Busted through the years:
2000 â busted were created.
James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson formed Busted in 2000. The band originally had the line-up of James, and Matt along with Ki Fitzgerald and Owen Doyle, after they auditioned to be in a new band for Warner Music, however that line-up didn't last long. Both Charlie Simpson and Tom Fletcher (now part of McFly) were offered places to complete the band's line-up, however it was later decided that Charlie would join James and Matt to form the line-up we know and love.
2002 â Busted released their debut album and single
The band officially launched in August 2002 and released their debut song 'What I Go To School For'. The song was written by Matt about a teacher he used to have a crush on and it saw the band get their first Top 5 song, with it reaching Number 3 in the UK. This success was followed by the release of their debut album 'Busted' which went to Number 2 in the UK.
2003 â Busted got their first Number 1 âYou Said Noâ
Following the success of their debut song they released 'Year 3000' a few months later which reached Number 2 in the UK. However, it was with the release of their third song 'You Said No', that Busted got their first Number 1. The band went on tour and also released their second album 'A Present for Everyone' in November 2003, which featured their Number 1 hits 'Crashed the Wedding', 'Who's David' and their double A side 'Thunderbirds' / '3AM'.
2004 â Busted go on tour TWICE
Busted went on their second and third tours in 2004 called 'Busted: A Ticket for Everyone' and 'Busted: A Ticket for Everyone Else'. They also released three Top 2 hits from their album, 'Who's David', 'Air Hostess' and the double A side 'Thunderbirds' and '3AM'. 2004 was also the year that Busted picked up Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Pop Act at the BRIT Awards, and they took part in Band Aid 20's 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'.
2005 â Busted decided to split
Tensions started to form in the band after Charlie decided to leave at the end of 2004, so the band finally split, announcing the news at a press conference in January 2005.
2006 â 2012 â Solo projects
During the years that Busted had separated the individual members did their own solo work. Charlie spent time playing with the rock band Fightstar, which he joined while he was part of Busted. He also released four solo albums, the first two of which reached the Top 10 in the UK. James also released music, both with pop punk band Son of Dork and as a solo artist Future Boy. He also became a songwriter, writing for Melanie C, McFly and the Jonas Brothers, as well as for the ITV hit show Britannia High. After the band's split, Matt released several solo songs and an album called 'Don't Let It Go to Waste'. He also released a song called 'Crash' for the film Mr Bean's Holiday. Away from music, Matt won I'm a Celeb back in 2006, and acted in several other TV shows including EastEnders and Birds of a Feather, as well appearing in several musicals on stage.
2013 â McBusted formed
Despite the band splitting back in 2005, Matt Willis and James Bourne joined forces with McFly members Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter, and Harry Judd, to form the supergroup McBusted.
2014 â McBusted went on tour
The new supergroup went on tour in 2014 and even supported One Direction on their European tour, continuing into 2015. In October 2014 they released their first song as a supergroup, 'Air Guitar', followed by their album 'McBusted'.
2015 - Busted reunited
Busted reunited with Charlie Simpson in November 2015 with a 13-date tour, and announced they would be releasing their third album.
2016 â Busted released âNight Driverâ and went on tour
The reunited band released their third album 'Night Driver' in November 2016, which featured songs such as 'Coming Home' and 'On What You're On'. The band also went on their 'Busted: Pigs Can Fly' tour.
2017 â Busted took âNight Driverâ on tour
The band took their third album on tour with their 'Busted: Night Driver Tour' playing 49 dates around the world including 46 in Europe.
2019 â âHalf Way There âTour
Busted released their album 'Half Way There' in February 2019 receiving positive reviews and seeing it reach Number 2 in the UK. The band then took the album on tour in March of that year.
2023 â Busted reunite and go on tour
In March 2023 Busted announced they were reuniting for the first time in three years and would be going on tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The band sold out their tour on the day the tickets went on general sale, and added seven more dates due to high demand. Their tour started in September 2023.
2023 - Busted release their 'Greatest Hits 2.0' album
In September 2023, Busted released their 'Greatest Hits 2.0' album. The band's latest compilation album is full of their classic hits with collaborations from the likes of the Jonas Brothers, McFly and Hanson.
2024 - Busted release a live and extended version of 'Greatest Hits 2.0'
In December 2023, Busted announced they would be re-releasing their 'Greatest Hits 2.0' album on 5th January 2024. The new album called 'Another Present For Everyone' is now available.

Busted 20th anniversary tour – Brighton gig review
Busted at the Brighton Centre 7.9.23 (pic Ian Bourn)
BUSTED + THE TYNE + WOLPH – BRIGHTON CENTRE 7.9.23
Growing up in the 2000s, my childhood was defined by McFly and Busted . After seeing McFly in 2021, (Review HERE ) I was excited to finally see Busted live again. I first saw Busted in Birmingham in 2018; it was one of my gig highlights that year, so expectations were high! In 2017 I met Matt Willis in a nightclub in Leamington Spa; he took my phone away and took a selfie on it! He was so friendly and whilst I donât think he spotted me in the crowd, itâs still cool to show off about. We headed out to the Brighton Centre in the boiling heat, with my Busted Keychain placed in my bag!
The night kicked off with WOLPH , who were joining Busted for two nights on tour. Iâm glad to have caught them. WOLPH are an indie pop band formed of Andy and Luke. Their single â Shoulders Of Giants â was released in 2022, which was a great tune to hear live. Their instrumental talent was incredible and Iâm excited to see where they go in the future.
www.instagram.com/wolphband
Then came the second support act, The Tyne . The Tyne formed in 2019, comprising of Cooper Stout (bass) and Ryan Lofthouse (vocals), with Josh James (guitar) and Noah Lima (drums). The band are big on social media TikTok, racking up 387.7 thousand followers. They released their first song, âJessica,â in February 2022. Since then they have been consistently releasing music such as their EPâs âBorn On The Internetâ and âComplaining (But There Is Music)â . Their most recent song âBad Moodâ was released on 1st September 2023.
I love seeing support acts as a way to discover new artists, and Iâve found a real crowd pleaser with The Tyne. The band opened with a cover of âTeenagersâ by My Chemical Romanceâfrom that moment I knew I was going to love them. I enjoyed all of their original songs, âFuneralâ gave a unique spin on mourning the end of a relationship. But my favourite of the set had to be âBad Moodâ which was the epitome of what pop punk should be. This is the exact kind of band we need in 2023: watch this space, I think theyâre going places. The Tyne are for all the people who are still nostalgic over 2000s pop punk, but ready for a new 2020s twist on the genre. The Tyne are doing their own headline tour in November and Iâm most definitely going to be getting tickets.

Then came Busted , formed of Matt Willis, James Bourne, and Charlie Simpson. Busted formed in 2000 and had a buzzing career, having four UK number-one singles, sold more than five million records, and winning two Brit awards. They have produced five albums: âBustedâ in 2002, âA Present For Everyoneâ in 2003; after a ten year hiatus the band released âNight Driverâ in 2016, âHalf Way Thereâ in 2019, and âGreatest Hits 2.0â in 2023. Between 2013-2015, Busted and McFly toured together as McBusted.
The set opened with a video of Christopher Lloyd playing Doc from âBack To The Futureâ as a nod to Bustedâs lyric from âYear 3000â: âhe told me he built a time machine, like one in a film Iâve seen.â Lloyd said that Busted had landed in the year 2023, when suddenly they walked out on stage. They started with the absolute classic âAir Hostessâ. Amongst the crowd there were some brilliant air hostess costumes, which put my homemade Busted t-shirt to shame! âAir Hostessâ was the perfect opener and everyone was singing and dancing.
The graphics and staging were immaculate. Iâm not sure how they coped with the fire in this heat, because even in the stalls we were boiling! I particularly liked that during âMeet You Thereâ the background screens had a lyric music video. During some of the older songs, the old-school music videos were playing in the background. It was so lovely and nostalgic for someone who used to watch their music videos with her friends!
I didnât look at the setlist before the show, and Iâm glad I didnât because it meant I was surprised when they played a cover of âMMMBopâ by Hanson. I went through a phase where I was obsessed with âMMMBopâ and would listen to it every single day multiple times! Hearing it live as a cover was amazing. I really had the time of my life in a funny nostalgic way. Iâm excited to hear the Hanson and Busted collab on âGreatest Hits 2.0â.
Matt Willis was on top form with his humour, making fun of McFly in an almost stand-up comedy set! He said that McFly have had two number one albums, but Busted havenât had any, so we ought to be getting âGreatest Hits 2.0â to that number one spot! Charlie Simpson noted that this is the biggest arena tour of 2023, so clearly after all these years, Busted have still got it.
âWhat I Go To School Forâ is one of my favourite Busted songs, so I went wild when they played it. As this is the 20th anniversary tour, Busted put a little spin on one of the lyrics in the song. Miss McKenzie is thirty-three in the original song, but tonight they sang fifty-three to commemorate twenty years since the songâs release. It was little touches like this which made the night so special.
When I saw Busted in 2018 they said they hate playing âThunderbirds Are Goâ so I was worried they wouldnât play it tonight. It was an absolute dancefloor classic when I was at Primary School and I desperately wanted to dance to it again. Thankfully, they did! Matt told the story behind the song. They were promised that the 2004 âThunderbirdsâ film would be a Hollywood hit, and they would be like Aerosmith or Celine Dione with iconic famous movie songs. However, Matt said that nobody actually saw the movie, despite the crowd claiming they did! They said that although the movie flopped, they got a good song out of it. Whilst Iâve never seen the âThunderbirdsâ film, I am obsessed with the song, so Matt was definitely right!
âCrashed The Weddingâ was another highlight of the night. Itâs such a fun song which got the crowd going. I loved watching the music video in the background as itâs such a hilarious classic. This was the final song before the encore, leaving the crowd on a high, desperate for more.
When Busted came out for their encore, they started with a cover of â Teenage Kicksâ by The Undertones, another great surprise as Iâm a huge fan of the song, having seen The Undertones playing in Huddersfield in 2022. Bustedâs cover was great fun, perfect for us all to dance to. The crowd in the stalls were lovely and we all danced together.
The night ended with âYear 3000â, which was the perfect choice. We all screamed and danced along as the ticker tape fell from the ceilings (and into my mouth!) It was an absolutely perfect night. Matt Willis said he wanted to keep going for fifty years, and I really hope they do.
Busted setlist: âAir Hostessâ âMeet You Thereâ (2.0 Hits Version) âLoser Kidâ (2.0 Hits Version) âYou Said Noâ âEverything I Knewâ âMMMBopâ (Hanson cover) âSleeping With The Light Onâ âGood Oneâ âWhat I Go To School Forâ âWho’s Davidâ âFalling For Youâ âThunderbirds Are Goâ âShe Wants To Be Meâ â3amâ âCrashed The Weddingâ (encore) âTeenage Kicksâ (The Undertones cover) âYear 3000â

Where are Busted now after 20 years? Drug addiction battle, rival bands and reunion
Busted shot into the spotlight as one of the UK's biggest boybands in the early 2000s and they've been through a lot since, from splitting to reuniting and forming McBusted inbetween
- 08:00, 10 Dec 2023
- Updated 08:15, 10 Dec 2023
Busted fans were heartbroken when the band announced their shocking split in 2005 - but thankfully it wasn't the end for the trio.
James Bourne , Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis rose to fame with their debut song What I Go To School For in 2002 and bagged their first number one with Year 3000 soon after. But despite their huge success, the boyband split a few years later and went their separate ways.
Then in March 2023, they announced they were officially back together with a 20th anniversary tour - but what happened during their 18 years apart? All three band members had ups and downs, from suffering mental health breakdowns and rehab stints to finding fame in the West End and forming McBusted.
James Bourne
Chief songwriter James moved to New York after the band split in 2005 and started a new pop rock band named Son Of Dork. The group had a couple of singles in the top 10 before they all went separate ways to pursue other projects. James turned their debut album into a West End musical in 2012, called Loserville: The Musical. In 2013, James and Matt announced they were joining McFly to form McBusted and went on a sell-out tour for two years.
Over the years, James has written for other artists including The Saturdays, The Vamps and 5 Seconds of Summer. He was in a relationship with YouTuber Emily Canham for four years, though they kept a relatively low profile during their relationship, before splitting in November 2023. A source told The Sun : "James and Emily have called it quits and are each happily moving on with their lives. James has been non-stop with the tour and managing his time between the UK and his place in LA."
Matt Willis
Matt has struggled with booze and drug addictions for most of his adult life and has been to rehab three times. Earlier this year, he spoke about his battles on BBC documentary, Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction, and praised his wife, The Voice presenter Emma Willis, for standing by him. "I dread to imagine where I'd be without her," he said, adding that he put her "through hell". The couple share three children and Matt credits fatherhood for helping him to become sober.
The TV star previously revealed that he became 'fully invested' in The Church of Scientology, a religion followed by several US stars including Tom Cruise and John Travolta, before he eventually cut ties. In 2006, Matt won I'm A Celebrity and went on to pursue a successful career in the West End, making his debut in Flashdance: The Musical in 2010. He has also appeared in Footloose, Wicked, Little Shop of Horrors, Waitress and 2:22 A Ghost Story.
Charlie Simpson
Charlie was the one to break up the band in 2005, when he decided to quit Busted and focus on his rock band, Fightstar. The group has continued to perform and he's since set up his own record label. In 2014, Charlie married his wife Anna Barnard and they had two sons. Last year, the couple suffered a scare when their youngest son, Jago, was rushed to hospital after 'secondary drowning' while on holiday abroad. "He spent the next three days in hospital and I'm so thankful for the amazing care he received. It was the worst thing we have ever experienced," Charlie said.
Earlier this year, the singer returned to TV and won The Masked Singer, dressed as the Rhino. "I was terrified the entire time. The thing I was scared most of was remembering lyrics. I often forget lyrics to my own songs on stage!" he said. Shortly after, Busted announced they were reuniting and touring the UK to celebrate their 20th anniversary. In summer 2024, the group will tour again.

McBusted review â punk-pop supergroup cum pop-culture satire
O2 Arena, London With their self-consciously plastic moniker, nostalgic culture-exploiting stage act and songs that seem to lampoon the competition, there has to be more going on with McBusted than catchy power chords
A s six men staring down their 30s â one pirate, one geek, one vampire, one skater, one TOWIE and one drummer - leap out of trapdoors in the worldâs biggest working arcade machine, it strikes you: how could the unholy matrimony between McFly and Busted , minus the latterâs former singer Charlie Simpson, be anything other than a genius satire?
Consider the evidence. Their composite moniker sounds exactly like a cheap, mass-produced version of a punk-pop band whose every song would resemble a CBeebies Green Day, as if commenting on brand-centric age when no Sugababe is indispensible. Theyâre grown men, playing to arenas of twentysomething women and dutiful boyfriends, who still deliver saccharine power-pop anthems with moronically trite lyrics about year-nine teen-boy concerns: approaching âout of your leagueâ girls ( Beautiful Girls Are the Loneliest , You Said No), phoning them from their front gardens in the middle of the night ( 3am ), and inevitably getting dumped (Get Over It). They pillory nostalgia culture by theming their McBustedâs Excellent Adventure tour around a 1986 of Atari and Matthew Broderick few here could remember. Between-song banter about âboobs!â, âpoop on a stick!â and Matt Willisâs stinking genitals surely lambasts Blink-182; the anti-critic One for the Radio pastiches Green Dayâs hollow rebel aesthetic; and they even lampoon their own marriage of convenience with a full-costume bridal procession down the aisles before Crashed the Wedding. This canât just be a bunch of formulaic chancers huddling together to survive the One Direction monsoon. Can it?
Whatever, McBusted revel enjoyably in their naffness. They bound about like boardless skaters, playing solos with each otherâs teeth; have a game of Street Fighter on the gigantic joysticks; and time-jump to a B-stage in a wire-lowered Back to the Future DeLorean. A Kiss-Cam encourages couples to snog along to the cheesy All About You and, after a Teenage Dirtbag-aping Year 3000 , they leave the stage down a Super Mario pipe. Relentlessly catchy and knowingly ludicrous, McBusted stick to your brain like toxic sparkly bubblegum. Insert coin, continue.

Itâs official â Busted are back, and theyâre bringing new songs and a massive UK tour with them.
The iconic three-piece ruled the airwaves in the early noughties with earworms including Year 3000, Air Hostess and What I Go To School For.
Itâs somehow been more than 20 years since Busted â comprising vocalists Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis, all 39 â burst onto the scene, and they have something very special ahead to celebrate.
Fans had already become convinced the Whoâs David stars had something major planned , with the official Busted social media pages updating their banners to include the date March 23.
Well, it is now March 23, and it has been revealed Busted are coming back for a massive 15-date UK arena tour, kicking off in September and with tickets going on sale next week.
The tour will see James, Charlie and Matt perform their biggest hits along with fan favourites (hello, Nerdy and 3am) with support from Mmmbop stars Hanson and New Hope Club.
Thatâs not all: the group are preparing to release no fewer than 15 songs.
Rather than brand new tracks, Busted have created reworks of some of their most iconic songs and will perform them alongside some other major names from the scene.
The first release is a new version of Loser Kid, from Bustedâs debut album; the track will hit airwaves on April 14 and will feature pop rock stars Simple Plan.
Other upcoming singles will have special guests McFly, All Time Low and more, with names to be released at a later date.

Rumours of a comeback for the group have circulated since Fightstar musician Charlie hinted to Lorraine Kelly â there may be some plans â for a reunion.
âIt is the 20 year anniversary for Busted this year,â he added.
âSworn to secrecy again⊠but there may be some stuff in the pipeline.â
Busted were first formed in 2000 and released their first, self-titled album in 2002, before their 2003 album A Present For Everyone threw them into even wider fame.
Their split in 2005 devastated fans, with many remembering genuine tears in the playground the day the news was announced; all three went on to form solo careers or front new bands.
Busted returned â in a way â in 2013, when Matt and James teamed up with McFly for supergroup McBusted, and Charlie finally returned in 2015, completing the original lineup.
