ABOUT JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide. As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs' LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) co-founded Blackheart Records from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after rejections from no less than 23 labels. 40 years later, Blackheart is a thriving entertainment company producing music, film and television, and continues to champion emerging bands. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts continue to tour the world with headlining shows alongside fellow rock legends like The Who, Green Day, Heart, and Foo Fighters. 'Bad Reputation,' a documentary about Jett's life, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Following up on the bands 2022 release Changeup, their first-ever acoustic album, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts EP Mindsets will be a RSD First vinyl release on 11/24. Mindsets is available to stream now.  For more information visit www.joanjett.com .

ABOUT MORGAN WADE  One of Nashville’s fastest-rising and most critically acclaimed young stars, Morgan Wade released her much-anticipated sophomore album, Psychopath, Aug. 25 via Sony Music Nashville. Possessed with a raw and unflinching voice anchored by a perfect tinge of twang; the rare ability to pen honest portraits of some of life’s most precious and painful and unpredictable moments; and an onstage vulnerability that so seamlessly breaks down the wall between fan and artist, Wade has quickly made her mark on the country music scene — and the music world at large. Her stunning 2021 debut album, Reckless, was hailed as a critical triumph; it topped Rolling Stone’s Best Country and Americana Albums of 2021, with New York Times noting Wade “sounds like she’s singing from the depths of history.” In 2022, Wade was nominated as the Emerging Act of the Year at the Americana Music Honors & Awards; in 2023, Wade was nominated for New Female Artist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music and performed at major-market festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.

While Reckless, and particularly its momentous lead single “Wilder Days,” busted down the doors and introduced Wade to a wider listenership, Psychopath is an astounding follow-up statement: the 13-track LP was crafted with the help of some of Nashville’s most extraordinary musical talents, from A-list songwriters (Julia Michaels, Natalie Hemby, Liz Rose, Lori McKenna) to studio musicians as well as Wade’s longtime producer Sadler Vaden. Most excitingly, Psychopath finds Wade peeling back layers of her psyche like never before. “I realized the more authentic you are and the more you pour yourself into your songs, and most importantly if you’re being honest, people will connect to that,” Wade says.  “I want every song to get the credit it deserves.”

Alanis Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a child actress turned alternative pop rock sensation, known for her candid and emotive delivery, Morissette was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Prior to making waves in the music industry, Morissette had appeared on the children’s television show “You Can’t Do That on Television”. Using money she had earned from the show the young talent recorded her first music demo entitled “Fate Stay With Me” in 1985, when the singer was 11. Three years later Morissette inked a publishing contract and in 1991, after signing with MCA Canada, released her debut album “Alanis”. Produced and co-written by Leslie Howe, the album became a hit in Canada, spawned the singles “Too Hot”, “Walk Away”, and “Feel Your Love”, and led to Morissette winning the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist.

Morissette’s sophomore album “Now Is the Time”, released in 1992, was a more thoughtful and candid album, and featured less pop production work than its predecessor. Despite being popular and producing three Top 40 singles “An Emotion Away”, “No Apologies” and “(Change Is) Never a Waste of Time”, the album was a comparative commercial failure and the singer was dropped from MCA Canada.

After graduating from high school, in liaison with her manager Scott Welsh, Morissette moved to Toronto, Canada, and began recording her third full-length in songwriter and producer Glen Ballard’s studio. By 1995 she had signed a deal with Maverick Records who issued “Jagged Little Pill” internationally in June 1995. The album’s lead single “You Oughta Know” soon got picked up by the relevant and influential Los Angeles, California radio station KROQ-FM, snowballing Morissette to success. The exposure led to heavy rotation on MTV and MuchMusic, and resulted in “Jagged Little Pill” reaching No. 1 in the U.S. Subsequent singles included “All I Really Want”, “Hand in My Pocket” and the instantly recognisable “Ironic”. The album went on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide, was certified 12 times platinum in Canada, and won the singer-songwriter six Juno Awards and four Grammy Awards in 1996.

After a successful tour in support of the album, and a six-week hiatus in India, the singer collaborated with Ringo Starr and Dave Matthews Band before returning to the studio to focus on her follow-up. Released in 1998, “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie” earned the highest first-week sales by any female artist, however failed to live-up to the success of its predecessor. After contributing four tracks to the Jonathan Elias project “The Prayer Cycle” Morissette released the live acoustic album “Alanis Unplugged” and toured alongside Tori Amos.

Morissette’s fifth studio album “Under Rug Swept” once again topped the charts in Canada, this time however the singer wrote and produced the album on her own. Aided by the singles “Hands Clean”, “So Unsexy”, and “Precious Illusions”, the album went platinum in Canada and sold over a million copies in the States. After the live concert DVD “Feast on Scraps” in 2002 the singer went on to release her sixth full-length album “So-Called Chaos” issued in 2004, followed by the acoustic rework of her breakthrough album entitled “Jagged Little Pill Acoustic”. In 2008 Morissette released the album “Flavors of Entanglement” which documented the break-up of her relationship with Ryan Reynolds, followed by “Havoc and Bright Lights” in 2012.

Live reviews

I had an amazing time seeing Alanis Morissette live a couple years ago at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. She had a large crowd of over 2,000 people completely mesmerized for the whole set, and brought all of us through the whole gamut of emotions. Even though it is a pretty large venue, the layout has everybody pretty close to the stage so it still feels relatively intimate.

I had just gotten out of a long relationship, and so I was particularly fond of her older, angrier material (like "You Oughta Know" and "You Learn"). Still, just like how Alanis Morissette’s music mellowed out as she matured, I felt the emotional scars heal up a bit when her newer music played and gave me a new perspective on things – basically, I felt like she and I connected and she let me know that no matter how awful I was feeling, things would eventually get better.

There is a sort of unfiltered emotional honesty in Alanis Morissette’s music that you just usually don’t get in music, and its rarity makes it that much more special. I highly recommend that everybody go catch Alanis Morissette in concert when you get the chance.

Report as inappropriate

There are few singers who could be said to look at more at home onstage as Alanis Morissette. She moves, dances and skips along with the music as if a woman possessed by the beats and makes her whole performance feel incredibly organic. By this logic, it is difficult for the crowds to sometimes know when to applaud as she is so masterful at merging her extensive discography into one and other that the whole show feels like one fluid piece of pop rock.

Understandably, with a career that spans over twenty years Alanis's sets are large in length yet she shows no sign of wavering on the energy front from the opener of 'I Remain' to the final tones of 'Thank U'. The crowd has a similar level of enthusiasm throughout as Morissette delivers hit after hit and the crowd has the opportunity to sing along to the alt-rock melodies of 'Hands Clean', 'Ironic' and 'You Learn'.

She also has a great rapport with her supportive live band who she introduces and thanks personally. They delight crowds with an angst heavy rendition of 'Uninvited' before leaving her British audience yearning for the Canadian to visit more regularly.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Alanis, her life seems very spiritual and peaceful these days, so part of me thought this could be a quite acoustic gig with alanis sat on a stool telling us how good life is,

Well I couldn’t have been more wrong, this was full on rock & roll, she played, along with her amazing group of musicians, every thing I wanted, powerful, louder and heavier than I imagined, She played a set lasting nearly 2 hours, and through out she had a great smile on her face looking like she was enjoying the show as much as everyone in the audience, one of the best live performances I have seen,

She looks amazing too, loving the short hair

One of the best concerts I’ve been to in my entire life, Alanis’s jagged Little pill was the soundtrack to my childhood and early teens, it was so emotionally and spiritually fulfilling to be in her presence along with thousands of other singing our hearts out to every word of her songs it was an incredible night that I will never forget

Second time seeing Alanis live and wow, I was blown away. She's just phenomenal. No words to describe this show. She sang acoustic versions of the full Jagged Little Pill plus a few songs from her other albums. Can't wait to see her in London again this September.

Alanis Morissette was in top form and delivered a great show but Ravinia has lost a step..... the sound was simply awful and the crowd didn't seem to understand there was a great artist on stage. I probably will never go back to Ravinia given these two facts.

Saw her in Amsterdam for the acoustic version of Jagged little pill. I have always been a fan, but I had no idea how amazing her voice is in a small intimate setting, even sometimes surpassing the studio versions. All I can say it was amazing.

Breath taking concert... as a huge fan I expected two more songs but all of was amazing!!! I had great seat and the place looks like the set of the mtv unplugged. I went back to the 90s. PERFECTION!

Awesome concert, her voice was solid, it was as if I traveled in a time machine. The band was great as well. Enjoyed the whole show from beginning to end.

ABOUT JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS

Joan Jett grew up during a time when rock ‘n’ roll was off limits to girls and women, but as a teenager, she promptly blew the door to the boys’ club right off its hinges. After forming her band the Blackhearts in 1979, with whom Jett has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” With a career that has spanned music, film, television, Broadway, and humanitarianism, Joan Jett remains a potent force and inspiration to generations of fans worldwide. As a producer, she has overseen seminal albums by Bikini Kill, and the Germs’ LA punk masterpiece ‘GI.’ Jett and Kenny Laguna (her longtime producer and music partner) co-founded Blackheart Records from the trunk of Kenny’s Cadillac after rejections from no less than 23 labels. 40 years later, Blackheart is a thriving entertainment company producing music, film and television, and continues to champion emerging bands. ABOUT MORGAN WADE

One of Nashville’s fastest-rising and most critically acclaimed young stars, Morgan Wade released her much-anticipated sophomore album, Psychopath , Aug. Her stunning 2021 debut album, Reckless , was hailed as a critical triumph; it topped Rolling Stone ’s Best Country and Americana Albums of 2021, with New York Times noting Wade “sounds like she’s singing from the depths of history.” In 2022, Wade was nominated as the Emerging Act of the Year at the Americana Music Honors & Awards; in 2023, Wade was nominated for New Female Artist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music and performed at major-market festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.

While Reckless , and particularly its momentous lead single “Wilder Days,” busted down the doors and introduced Wade to a wider listenership, Psychopath is an astounding follow-up statement: the 13-track LP was crafted with the help of some of Nashville’s most extraordinary musical talents, from A-list songwriters (Julia Michaels, Natalie Hemby, Liz Rose, Lori McKenna) to studio musicians as well as Wade’s longtime producer Sadler Vaden.

The crowd who spent a mid-July weekend watching Earl Sweatshirt , Noname , and more perform for free in Brooklyn at MIKE’s Young World festival in 2023 got a front-row seat to the rapper’s caring curation and accessible live experience. This year, MIKE took that energy on the road in support of his most recent solo album, Burning Desire . The Somebody Fine Me Trouble Tour began in Europe last February, before kicking off a U.S. leg in Philadelphia in April. MIKE will close things out with a hometown show at New York’s Webster Hall on May 25.

Militarie gun.

The hardest working touring band in post-hardcore is dead set on maintaining that title in 2024. Los Angeles’ Militarie Gun started this year on the road for their North American headlining tour and won’t park the van until they’re done with their ever-expanding tour by the fall. They’re bringing Life Under the Gun , their long-awaited debut album, to life at venues and festival stages alike, with performances at Primavera Sound, Bonnaroo, Reading and Leeds, End of the Road, and Aftershock, plus additional music festivals scattered throughout this summer.

Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience

She may not be an outspoken artist online, but, behind the scenes, Mitski is making every word count. While TikTok was busy fawning over “ My Love Mine All Mine ,” Mitski was putting in the work to find a music venue that offers fair merch rates while still booking a place big enough to house her sizable fandom at each stop. The result of her efforts is a North American tour with multiple nights at theaters around the country in support of The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We . Joining her along the way are openers Tamino, Sunny War, Julia Jacklin, and Sarah Kinsley.

Country crooner Orville Peck recently released the new single “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other,” a cover and collaboration with Willie Nelson that doubles as the first taste of a forthcoming duets album called Stampede . He’ll bring the new music on the road through North America starting in Asheville this May, with stops in Atlanta, Chicago, Toronto, Kansas City, and more. Peck has recruited various supporting acts to open, including Durand Jones, Jaime Wyatt, Debii Dawson, and others, but you can probably count on a few surprise appearances from artists who feature on Stampede to pop up along the way, too.

When Pearl Jam announced their new album, Dark Matter , along with news of a world tour , it marked a first in the band’s long, storied career. That simultaneous reveal seemed to match the excitement and wild nature of the record itself, or at least its self-titled single. Onstage, while performing new material, cherry-picking classics, and breaking out deep cuts from their extensive catalog, Pearl Jam will bring that enthusiasm to nine countries over the course of the year. The tour begins on May 4 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and will last on through to November 21, where the band ends their long run in Sydney, Australia.

The alt-rock gods unite in this triple bill of creature critters, an expansion of the outfits’ joint jaunt last summer. A newly Paz Lenchantin–less Pixies headline alongside Modest Mouse, with Chan Marshall’s Cat Power supporting. ABOUT MORGAN WADE One of Nashville’s fastest-rising and most critically acclaimed young stars, Morgan Wade released her much-anticipated sophomore album, Psychopath , Aug.

Most excitingly, Psychopath finds Wade peeling back layers of her psyche like never before. “I realized the more authentic you are and the more you pour yourself into your songs, and most importantly if you’re being honest, people will connect to that,” Wade says.  “I want every song to get the credit it deserves.”

alanis morissette tour detroit

We’re here to remind you of what business leaders can learn from Alanis Morissette

alanis morissette tour detroit

Jason Kempin/Getty Images

Jagged Little Pill—recorded 30 years ago and released in 1995, when Morissette was 21—sold 33 million copies (making it the biggest debut of a female artist), won the Ottawa-born songwriter seven Grammys, formed the basis of a Tony-winning musical, and provided the soundtrack to countless breakups. This spring, Morissette, now 49, is embarking on a North American tour that’s bound to be a multigenerational outlet for collective female rage.

Melt it down

Canadians of a certain age will no doubt remember Morissette’s dancey debut tune, “Too Hot,” which hit the airwaves in 1991. ( Always too hot/never too cold/You make your best shot/Too hot to hold .) At the time, she was a 17-year-old shoulder-padded former child star known simply as Alanis. The song was a hit, but dance-pop diva wasn’t exactly Morissette’s truth. So she disappeared, leaned into her angst and re-emerged four years later as a grunge goddess with a record that defined a generation.

That simply was good enough

Morissette recorded “You Oughta Know”—arguably her most enduring hit and the lead single off Jagged Little Pill —in a single late-night take at a Hollywood studio, with a bare-bones crew. “It was 11 o’clock at night. She sang it once. We were exhausted. That was it,” says her co-writer, Glen Ballard. “Everybody wants to fix their shit. She never did.” The track’s—the entire album’s—rawness is a big part of what made it such a staggering hit.

Don’t scan the credits for your name

Listen: Fans know that Mr. Duplicity himself is Dave Coulier, a.k.a. Uncle Joey from Full House , who dated Morissette for two years when, it should be noted, she was 18 and he was 33. But with Carly Simon–esque restraint, Morissette has never confirmed the subject of “You Oughta Know” (or “Unsent” or any other hit). “I’ve never talked about who my songs were about, and I won’t,” she has said, “because...they’re written for the sake of personal expression.” The lesson? In this era of hyper-confessionalism, maybe just don’t. Leave something to the imagination.

I’m here to remind you

As the edict goes, you have to put on your own oxygen mask before you can help others. Morissette knows she has a hard time doing that, however, and so she’s made it part of her team’s job to call her out on self-care slackage. “I render myself accountable by asking people who are my professional partners, as part of their job descriptions, to require me to be accountable for my well-being,” she has said. “Because I can’t be trusted.”

You live, you learn

For three decades, Morissette has heard every smarmy dig imaginable about her blockbuster hit “Ironic”—which, as every English lit major loves to point out, doesn’t include any actual examples of irony. The song’s Wikipedia page even has a long section entitled “Linguistic dispute.” Does it mortify Morissette to this day? Yup. “If I knew more than 10 people were gonna hear this, I would’ve been a stickler instead of being shamed publicly, planetarily, for 20 years,” she has said. But remember: The usage faux-pas didn’t dampen fans’ love for the song. She wrote it when she was just 20. And she originally didn’t even want to include it on Jagged Little Pill . Now that’s ironic...or is it?
