bangalore tour review

Good tours organized by KSTDC

I had booked tours for Bangalore , Belur- Sravanabelagola and Mysore. The tour is good except for Bangalore sight seeing. For bangalore sight seeing they took us to 3 temples, ISKCON temple, Balaji temple and one another one , name not remembering... It took half of our day time. All these are very ordinary temples and nothing great to mention . In the name of bangalore city tour , they took us to temples and jungles... which was funny . they spoiled our whole day . A Lion safari through caged animals at Bannerghatta park which was boring ... Then one painting show and nehru planetorium... Very boring , whole day they spoiled, please do not book their bangalore tour. the other tours were good , especially the Mysore one . For Belur and Halebidu tour they are not sending the Guide alongwith the vehicle. becuase there is guide available at those places and it looks like the KSTDC officals having some tie up with them in not sending the KSTDC tour with the vehicle. That is bad ... The vehicle is good , you can book online. Mobile charger point is availble with each seat , so you can take your charger... Overall their tour is good , value for money and enjoyable.

Day Tour to Mysore - Tour was long, way too long. I bought the day trip to Mysore online and specifically chose the more expensive bus with A/C with Seabird Tours. When I got to the pick up point the bus going to Mysore was an old bus with no A/C, but some fans, which were never turned on. The tour went everywhere in the itinerary, although we didn't get to see the Bull statue. Bus had nowhere to park, so we could only see it from the bus. We were supposed to have returned by 11pm, but only got back at 1:30am. The driver said the same thing happened the previous day and it sounded like it happened quite often. On the way back I was afraid the driver might fall asleep, since he had been driving all day since 7:30 am and had to stop on the way to wash his face. Not a nice feeling. If you can afford, go with the private tours. I wanted to get a local feel and do the local thing, but it proved more than I had bargained for.

Told by Thompson representatives that you see the animals in thier natural surroundings . I witnessed the elephants beings beaten with sticks. The Tigers tormented in cages. Please do not go unless you want to witness animal cruelty.

The bus itself felt safe and had air conditioning. It was clean and the driver seemed as capable as one could expect. You purchase tickets for assigned seats so that is reassuring. The bus leaves Badami House in the early morning around 6:30am and (dependent on traffic, I'm sure) returned around 11:40pm. During that time, it was a whirlwind tour of the the sites around Mysore. Passengers are responsible for meal costs (the bus makes a breakfast and dinner stop) as well as all entrance fees. Fees are much higher for foreigners and most sites will require a photography fee to take any photos. Be warned that security will make you delete photos if they catch you taking photos where it is prohibited or if you cannot produce a photo pass receipt. The bus trip makes a good variety of stops at some of the most popular shrines and sights around Mysore, but the stops are short. I felt we spent more time on the bus driving on the bus with short 30-40 minutes to get through a temple (which is almost impossible). I would recommend this trip for a first time visit when you don't really know what you want to see. If you want to dwell and spend time reading the placards and exhibits, I would recommend something else.

bangalore tour review

While the day tours are a very convenient option, if you are planning to go on a week day - off season, then you need to be aware that KSTD cancels trips if there are not enough people! My Belur Halibid day trip got cancelled the previous night!

It is a good tour if you are travelling solo or with friends... You pay for the bus trip and have to shell out for food and the entrance fee for the attractions along the way. I had my reservations about the trip - the bus, safety, timeliness, food... but overall I was happy with the tour and it is good value for the money spent. What worked: - The tour starts and ends at the KSTDC office (Badami house) - the location is accessible from all parts of the city. - The bus was clean and we felt like we were in good hands with an experienced driver - The guide helped purchase tickets for most attractions which helped avoid long queues (we visited on a Sunday and most places were really crowded) What did not work so well: - Its a long, tiring, packed tour: not suited for young children and for senior citizens - Food: Stopped at Kamat for breakfast which was good; Lunch was at the KSTDC hotel called Mayura Hoysala - reasonable but could have been better; Dinner was at a local restaurant at Mandya - just passable... not a good option at all. KSTDC should consider better options for the pit stops!
