I did mud buggy with JB and his crews and they were awesome!!!! The trail was not short, and there were a few stops on the trail so if you have multiple riders that you brought with you riding in your buggy, you have time to switch comfortably without interrupting the other riders. It felt like we were in the movie Death Race with everyone walking to their buggy dressed in bandanas and goggles. Then there’s a short of race track with turns at the end of the trail so you can get as wild at you want!.

The beach was rough with plenty of waves if you’re looking for calm waters this beach is not for you

the ocean had red flag the week that we were there but it was still beautiful to see the view

5/5 - Excellent

Avoid people with animals unless you don't mind paying them! We only gave a couple of dollars but they normally ask for $40+ for a few pictures.

Not bad except for the constant barrage of vendors.

2/5 - Disappointing

There was tons of seaweed on the beach. LIKE TONS. You couldn't get into the water without wading through 20 feet of seaweed.

The Algae bloom was really bad this year. This was beyond the control of the resort due to the warm ocean water.

Location & Public Access - Bavaro Beach

Where is bavaro beach.

Bavaro Beach is about a 20-minute drive from the Punta Cana International Airport (PJU), stretching from Cabeza del Toro Beach to Arena Gorda Beach.  Most of the access to Bavaro is through the resort properties but beachgoers can enter through various plazas (shopping areas), beachfront restaurants, and villages.  You’ll find these access points on the   map , they’re often referred to as their own beaches such as   El Cortesito, Los Corales, Jellyfish, and Bibijagua,   continue reading below for more information on each of these.

El Cortesito – Bavaro Beach

El Cortesito is the most picturesque beachside village in Bavaro, with a large ex-pat residential community nearby and repeat visitors that love the island life by the beach with a lively atmosphere.  Various all-inclusive resorts, small inns, and vacation rentals spoil guests with the best beach access, but if you’re visiting for the day, you can gain access through various beachside bars and colorful alleys with shops that lead to the paradisiac Bavaro Beach.

There’s parking available, locals typically charge $5 at their private lot.  Walking around the colorful village is a favorite pastime with various souvenir shops, beach clothing shops, traditional wood carvings artworks, and more.

Once at the beach, you can enjoy a nice walk, stop by beachside shops, refresh with delicious tropical drinks, choose from a variety of water sport activities, and of course just chill under the Caribbean Sun.

Bibijagua – Bavaro Beach

Bibijagua Beach offers excellent access to Bavaro Beach and is one of the most convenient public beach spots in Punta Cana, with a private parking lot.  Playa Bibijagua is perfect for those that want an active day on the beach surrounded by music, happy people, great food and drinks, shopping, and mingling with locals.

At the entry of Bibijagua, you’ll pass the  Bibijagu a artisan market, a popular shopping stop for tourists with a wide variety of traditional Dominican artisan crafts.

The beach is more mellow during the week and busy on weekends.  If you wish to have fun on the water, you can find a variety of rentals from kayaks to Hobie Cats.  Many tour operators leave from this beach making it an ideal location to have a day at the beach with as little or as many activities as your heart desires.

Los Corales – Bavaro Beach

Los Corales is part of the Bavaro beach stretch, home to luxurious all-inclusive beachfront resorts, and private villas.  Los Corales is a fun beach with plenty of water sports, beach bars, restaurants, and local shops.   Like the rest of the villages along Bavaro, Los Corales is home to various charters offering a variety of watersports and offshore adventures from party boats to more private excursions.  There are various restaurants that offer lounge chairs for the use of their customers.  Los Corales Beach is just a five-minute walk to center Bavaro and a short walk to Cortesito Beach where you can shop for souvenirs made by local artisans, visit cigar shops, and more.

I have looked at Punta Cana Mikes, Outback Tours, Bavaro Runners, and my resorts excursions. I am curious if I decide to book excursions with my hotel if I need to do this before I arrive? I know I would need pre book with the independent tour operators but will I need to book in advance with my resort?

I have been on my resorts web page, it does not say pre booking is required. Has anyone stayed at this hotel (or the adjacent one) and gone on any of their excursions? I am most interested in the Santo Domingo Bus, Saona con Altos de Chavon , and the Bavaro Runners tour my hotel offers.

Any information is appreciated :)

All others I think you can just on arrival. If there is a tour you know you absolutely want to do I would try and prebook so you can guarantee availability for your vacation dates.

if you want to book with t6he tourrepresentatives at the resort you need no pre booking, those are the mass tours which have almost always space available to squeeze in some more guests.

as for the ebst price and service, where ever a touroutfitter offers to book online directloy with the outfitter/owner, then of course do so, as resellers like the salesstaff at resorts, touroperators, beachvendors etc etc of course can not offer a better price nor better service than the owner/outfitter of a excursion himself does, as those middlesmen/resellers as usual live of their 30-70% toursales-commissions.

I have excursions booked with Dominican Plus...they have some really good day trips that seem to combine the best of other tours. They are also the least expensive full day tours I found (even less expensive than the resort). They have good reviews on Tripadvisor...I would suggest checking them out. Only down side I can see with them is certain tours only run on certain days so a bit of pre-planning is needed.

Cannot wait to get to DR in a few weeks :)

of course their tours should be cheaper than the prices shown at the hotel's tourdesk. the shown rates at the resorts are the highest to get.

which full day tours did you book with them?

I have booked Rudi's Coconut Tour and the Santo Domingo City Tour.

I really wanted to see Santo Domingo City, Alto de Chavon, caves, markets, a school, and Higuey as well as some rural areas/agriculture areas and these two tours provided me with pretty much everything I want to see on my first trip to DR.

I still have a few day to play with so I may still book an additional tour (this is my first "vacation" as apposed to "traveling" so not sure how much resort time I can handle however I have been craving a warm beach for a year so we shall see how this all goes :p)...would love to see the mountains and the Samana/Puerto Plata side of the island (suggestions are welcome)
