Birdwatching in Romania - a Danube Delta experience

Great experience, guide Andrei was knowledgable, enthusiastic, friendly, and professional. He went out of his way to ensure that our group of 4 had an enjoyable and satisfactory experience. Accomodations were terrific, as were the home-cooked meals that were included. Would recommend!

Danube Delta Birding Tour Tour

Danube Delta Birding Tour

Black Sea Attractions & Landmarks Guide

The Black Sea in southeastern Europe has an ancient history as a prime trading route between east and west. Bordered by Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, and Georgia, it has a notable recent history as well -- the disputed Crimea region is located here. It's also been the scene of the recent Sochi Olympics and the Yalta Conference at the end of World War II. Dotted with resorts and bearing distinct eastern flavors, the Black Sea has become prime cruising territory, highlighted by Turkey's Istanbul (which sits at its entrance); Odessa, Ukraine; and Yalta and Sevastapol on the Crimean Peninsula.

What sets this tour apart, in my view, is the perfect blend of professionalism and genuine friendliness. Mr. Muhammet and Mr.Veysel enriched my understanding of the Black Sea's history, culture, and nature, making it a truly captivating experience. The selected destinations were well-thought-out, and they even allowed us to make optional changes to tailor our trip. Furthermore, I felt like I was traveling with friends. I want to extend my sincere thanks to them for this wonderful journey. Witnessing individuals who approach their work with such care and passion is truly inspiring. I wholeheartedly recommend Sunnova Travel to all my friends and acquaintances. I'm eagerly looking forward to the Kaçkar Summit Tour and our next meeting, See you again. • camel66 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Amazin Experience My was 7 days private My tour with Sunnova Travel was 7 days private black sea tour. The route was Trabzon - Humushane - Uzungol - Rize - Ayder - Elevit. The tour included visit to some of the most popular sites in the area including Trabzon city, Sumela Monastery, Karaca Cave, Uzungol Lake, Ayder Highland, Zil Castle, Pokut Highland, Tea gardens of Rize, Ottoman Bridges and Waterfalls. The places we visited were most beautiful and the landscape is amazing, and the food is just yummy. However, what made the tour so special is the people of Sunnova Travel, they were like family, I would like to thank Alican and his wife Suzan for their hospitality, we really enjoyed touring with you and thank you for your help, also many thanks to Beyza for her delicious cooking. I would highly recommend Sunnova Travel for their excellent organization of the tour before and during the trip and the family like hospitality. Read more Written October 13, 2022
  • Nor Laila M 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles The Sea, the Rivers, the Highlands, the Clouds, the Fresh Air, the Great Hospitality - what a delightful experience We are group of ex-schoolmates in the 6-series age group. Sunnova Travel in particular Mr Alican provide an excellent service in helping me customize our 6D/5N private tour to the Black Sea. Our tour package includes visits to Trabzon city, Sumela-Uzungol-Pokut-Ayder-Rize tea plantations - top of the visits will be Pokut Highlands which was highly recommended by Mr Alican. The Black Sea tour offers an amazing view coupled with some "adventurous" activities for the people from the 6-series. We have an experienced and cheerful tour guide Celal who not only gave an excellent tour guidance for the places that we visited but he also gave good suggestions of restaurants where we had our meals. Top of it he sang some traditional Turkish songs for us while playing the musical instrument. Our driver for the tour Erkan also took great care of us where he helped us "to finish the walks and climbs" of the tour. My recommendation for those who intend to go to the Black Sea - do not miss out Pokut - the experience to be above the clouds. A private tour of 7D/6N or more is recommended to allow you to follow the tour at a slower pace and allows you the the time to enjoy the tour. The Black Sea tour should not be done in a rush. Everything was arranged very well: the communication beforehand, the transportation and accommodation, as well as the guiding during the trek. The landscape is beautiful and the people are friendly. By then we became internet friends and meeting Alican felt like greeting an old friend. Sunnova planned and made sure our days were interesting, fun and flexible. We were picked up every morning with a car stocked with drinks and snacks and we always felt safe and pampered. Best accommodation was Aren Cave Hotel in Cappdocia but I would not recommend Dersaaadet Hotel in Istanbul. The kindness and thoroughness of Alican, Selcuk and Suzan to assure our needs were met went over and beyond, we highly recommend them to design your trip, you will not be disappointed. Four of us traveled with Sunnova from Istanbul to Cappadocia, Black Sea area, to the west from Dalyan , Ephasus, Aydin to Izmir and back to Istanbul over a three week period. Only one of us had ever been to Turkey and Alican and his associates made this the most memorable trip ever! We are from California and are used to beautiful areas: however the ancient history, kind people and delicious foods blew us away! We had a lot of interaction with the local and authentic ways of Turkey and it was intriguing how they meld with the present. Alican’s character and ethics were present in all of his associates. bosphorus black sea cruise from istanbul tour with dolphins and dinner

Click the map to enlarge and view the route usually taken for this Bosphorus cruise to Black Sea as far as Poyrazkoy:

Northwards: Cruise the full Bosphorus to the Black Sea mouth at Poyrazköy in Turkey, with sightseeing or swimming & fishing opportunities .

Experience a leisurely cruise along the Bosphorus to the mouth of Turkey’s Black Sea near Poyrazköy. Along the way you’ll enjoy scenic views of small fishing towns, idyllic swimming and fishing stops, not to mention the chance to spot dolphins.

Departing from central Istanbul, you’ll start by cruising past some of the most stunning waterfront palaces, bridges and mosques along both European & Asian shores of the Bosphorus. Travel along this lively maritime line dotted with ships, yachts, ferries and boats before approaching the calm and tranquil bays near Beykoz.

Beykoz makes an ideal location for a refreshing swim for those who wish, or why not try your hand at reeling in a fish using our fishing rods and lines, (assistance provided from our crew if needed). Depending on the season and your luck you’ll have the possibility to catch Blue Fish, Bonito, Whiting, Sardines or Horse Mackerel.

Later we make a port-of-call at the little fisherman village of Anadolu Kavagi , where you’ll have the chance to set foot ashore on the Asian Continent if you wish. Here you can enjoy a typical village lunch (not included), or visit the hill-top Yoros Castle for panoramic views overlooking Istanbul, the Bosphorus and Black Sea coast. Alternatively we can offer an optional lunch served on board the yacht for advance bookings.

Keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins , you’ll continue further North, gliding around the uninhabited headland and coasts dotted with little coves of wild flowers and forests towards the fishing village of Poyrazköy and the mouth of the Black Sea . At this stage of our Black Sea cruises, you’ll see the third Bosphorus Bridge , the opposite shore with Garipçe and Rumeli and Anadolu Feneri lighthouses in the distance.

Dolphins can often be seen leaping, playing and hunting here, especially during the summer fish migration. Enjoy the chance for more fishing or another refreshing swim in one of the secluded coves, before returning back to the city center, relaxed and refreshed after this incredible day trip from Istanbul.

What Our Guests Say About This Cruise:

A day we will never forget Four of us rented Zoe for the 6 hour cruise to Poyrazköy (Black Sea Mouth). They picked us up on time from the hotel, got us to the boat quickly, and we took off immediately. The crew took such great care of us, even taking pictures of the group of us when we asked. Apparently, we got very lucky the day of our cruise; we saw over 100 dolphins surrounding the boat feeding multiple times through our trip. It was an experience none of us will ever forget. We knew it was a special moment with the dolphins ,because we could see how excited the crew was about seeing all of them as well. The food, the drinks, the service, the captain, the crew, the fishing village, the swimming, the Black Sea, the Asian side, the European side, the general experience….all flawless. Just do it, book Zoe for yourself and see Istanbul in style in luxury. Demi Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Officials recovered the bodies of two construction workers who were on Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge when it collapsed early Tuesday morning after a 984-foot-long cargo ship collided into a pillar.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore called the collapse Wednesday " a global crisis ."

"The national economy and the world's economy depends on the Port of Baltimore. The port handles more cars and more farm equipment than any other port in the country," Moore said.

Here's what you should know:

  • The victims: The six people who are presumed dead were from Mexico Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, according to Col. Roland L. Butler Jr, the superintendent of Maryland State Police. Two bodies were recovered and have been identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes from Mexico and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera from Guatemala. The two workers were filling potholes on the bridge and were later found trapped in a red pickup truck in about 25 feet of water, Butler said. The FBI is handling notifying the victims' families, Butler said.
  • Recovery efforts: Authorities are pausing search efforts for the four other workers who are presumed dead, because additional vehicles are encased in concrete and other debris, making it unsafe for divers, Butler said. Once salvage operations clear the debris, divers will search for more remains, he said.
  • The investigation: The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the fatal incident, according to the agency's chair Jennifer Homendy. During a Wednesday news conference, Homendy said there were 21 crew members and two pilots on board the Dali cargo ship when it crashed into the bridge. She also said a senior NTSB hazmat investigator identified 56 containers of hazardous material, and that some containers are in the water. The agency received six hours of voyage data from the ship and the investigation could take 12 to 24 months to complete, Homendy said. She emphasized that NTSB will not analyze information collected or provide conclusions while on scene of the collapse.
  • Looking forward: Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said rebuilding the bridge will not be "quick or easy" but that it will get done. He said there are four main focus points ahead: reopening the port, dealing with supply chain issues until its reopening, rebuilding the bridge and dealing with traffic issues until the bridge is rebuilt. Biden  pledged the full support  of the federal government in the response and recovery efforts. His administration has already conveyed a sense of urgency to open up federal funding to remove debris and ultimately rebuild the bridge. Maryland has submitted a request to the Biden administration for emergency relief funds "to assist in our work going forward," Moore said Wednesday.

It's almost impossible to place people on the bow of ship due to the unstable structure, fire official says

 From CNN's Sarah Engel

Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said Wednesday that the cargo ship's bridge structure and containers at the bow remain unstable.

"It's going to be very difficult, if not impossible, and very dangerous, to place people on the bow of that boat right now," Wallace told CNN's Kaitlan Collins.

"Naturally, we're still very cognizant of the fact that there are hazardous materials on board the vessel itself," Wallace said, alluding to the National Transportation Safety Board saying earlier that 56 containers were carrying hazardous materials.

Wallace said his team is relying heavily on aerial recognizance, including drones. "That's the only way we're able to see in," he said.

He added that the aerial surveillance has "been able to really assure us right now we have no [chemical] reactions on board."

"It's just utter devastation," NTSB chief says of the bridge collapse site

From CNN's Aditi Sangal

Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, called the site of the Key Bridge collapse "devastating."

"It's pretty devastating, certainly, seeing not just what's going on with the cargo containers, but just looking at what was a bridge span — three bridge spans that is pretty much gone. It's just utter devastation," she said at Wednesday evening's news briefing.

She added that she is thinking of families who lost loved ones and those who are waiting to reunite with their lived ones.

NTSB interviewed the Dali's captain and some other crew members today, agency chief says

The National Transportation Safety Board has interviewed the ship's captain, his mate, the chief engineer and one other engineer today, according to Chair Jennifer Homendy.

The two pilots on board the Dali at the time of collision will be interviewed tomorrow, she added.

Cargo ship's voyage data recorder is basic when compared to an airplane's, NTSB chair says

From CNN's Tori B. Powell

The voyage data recorder on the cargo ship Dali was a "newer model" but is considered basic when compared to that on an airplane, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

"But it is very basic compared to say, a flight data recorder, where we would have 1,000 parameters," she said at a news conference on Wednesday.

The NTSB chief investigator Marcel Muise added:

"It's not a ship-wide system recorder, so most of the sensors that are being recorded are from the bridge. So things like GPS, the audio, rudder feedback, rudder commands are recorded on there. But not engineering, the temperature of each cylinder, power distribution sensors."

There were no tug boats with Dali at the time of the collision. That's normal, NTSB chief says

People look at the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge while visiting Fort McHenry in Baltimore on Wednesday.

There were no tugs with Dali when the cargo vessel collided with Baltimore's Key Bridge, which is normal protocol, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

Remember: At 01:26:39 on Tuesday, Dali's pilot made a general very high frequency (VHF) radio call for tugs in the vicinity to assist, the NTSB investigator Marcel Muise had said.

"The tugs help the vessel leave the dock, leave the port and get into the main ship channel. And then they leave. Once it's on its way, it's a straight shot through the channel. So there are no tugs with the vessel at the time. So they were calling for tugs," she said.

NTSB chair says she saw some containers that were carrying hazardous materials in the water

National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy said she did see some of the 56 containers that were carrying hazardous materials in the water.

When asked how many

When asked how many containers of hazardous materials were in the water, Homendy said:

"I did see some containers in the water, and some breached significantly on the vessel itself," she said. "I don't have an exact number, but it's something that we can provide in an update."

Homendy said that a preliminary report should be out in two to four weeks.

This post has been updated with more quotes from Homendy.

Bridge did not have any redundancy, unlike the preferred method for building bridges today, NTSB chair says

Baltimore's Key Bridge did not have any redundancy, which is included in the preferred method of building bridges in the present day, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy.

"The bridge is a fracture critical," she explained. "What that means is if a member fails that would likely cause a portion of, or the entire bridge, to collapse, there's no redundancy. The preferred method for building bridges today is that there is redundancy built in, whether that's transmitting loads to another member or some sort of structural redundancy. This bridge did not have redundancy," Homendy said.

There are 17,468 fracture critical bridges in the United States out of 615,000 bridges total, she said, citing the Federal Highway Administration.

The Black Keys are going to launch their newly announced 2024 North American headline tour in Oklahoma.

The six-time Grammy winners will kick off their fall "International Players Tour" Sept. 17 at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Produced by Live Nation, the coast-to-coast tour will go on to New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, with two dates in the band’s home state of Ohio.

The Head and The Heart will join the tour as direct support for select shows, including the Tulsa kick-off concert.

Fall tour to support The Black Keys' new album 'Ohio Players'

The Black Keys ' 31-city autumn tour will support their 12th studio album, "Ohio Players," due out Friday, April 5 via Nonesuch Records.

The follow-up to The Black Keys' 2022 album "Dropout Boogie," "Ohio Players" features collaborations with several of the rockers' friends and colleagues, including Beck, Noel Gallagher, Dan the Automator, Greg Kurstin, Juicy J and Lil Noid.

The album's lead single “Beautiful People (Stay High)" recently reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart and AAA Airplay charts. Additional singles from the new album include “This Is Nowhere” and “I Forgot to Be Your Lover.”

The tour announcement follows two celebrated performances by The Black Keys at South by Southwest earlier this month in Austin, Texas, where they also debuted their new documentary, "This is a Film About The Black Keys," to rave reviews.

Formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001, The Black Keys are singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. After starting out playing small clubs, the band has gone on to sell out arena tours and has released 11 previous studio albums: their debut "The Big Come Up" (2002), followed by "Thickfreakness" (2003) and "Rubber Factory" (2004), along with their Nonesuch Records releases "Magic Potion" (2006), "Attack & Release" (2008), "Brothers" (2010), "El Camino" (2011), "Turn Blue" (2014), “Let’s Rock” (2019), "Delta Kream" (2021) and "Dropout Boogie" (2022).

When are tickets to The Black Keys' Oklahoma arena show going on sale?

Ahead of the North American leg of the tour, The Black Keys will trek to Europe to debut their new live show. Tickets for the UK and Europe shows are on-sale now.

Tickets to the band's North American tour kick-off show in Tulsa go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5 and will be available online at www.bokcenter.com .

American Express Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 through 10 p.m. Thursday, April 4.

Tulsa ticket prices range from $59.75 to $199.75.
