What is the Motorcycle in Mission: Impossible – Fallout?

Mission Impossible 6 Motorcycle

In Mission: Impossible 6 — aka Mission: Impossible – Fallout — the franchise continues its love affair with BMW Motorrad. In the previous installment of the series, Tom Cruise as agent Ethan Hunt took to the road on a BMW S1000RR sport bike.

Mission Impossible 6 Motorcycle

For MI: 6 , Cruise is back in the saddle of a BMW motorcycle. This time, it’s a BMW R nineT — a retro-styled roadster that BMW Motorrad calls a “blank canvas for customizing.” Introduced in 2014, the R nineT has a number a beautiful “oilhead” engine, which is arguably more aesthetically pleasing than a more modern liquid-cooled engine.

M:I6: BMW R nineT

This 1170cc air/oil-cooled boxer twin engine offers 110 horsepower and a stump-pulling 86 ft-lb of torque. To aid with customization, the bike has a separate engine and chassis wiring harnesses, as well as minimal fasteners connecting the seat, headlight, and tail light assemblies. We have featured a number of R nineT customs here from builders across the globe — including cafe racer, scrambler, and streetfighter style builds.

Mission Impossible 6 Motorcycle

Some observers have claimed that the motorcycle Cruise rides is an R nineT Pure — a basic version of the platform — probably because of the tank color. However, closer inspection reveals that the bike has the fork gaiters/bellows, high-mount exhaust, toothed footpegs, and solo saddle of the BMW R nineT Scrambler version. That said, these could be additions to the Pure platform. Either way, the bike has the design cues of the Scrambler.

Main features of the R nineT Scrambler include:

  • Single-sided swingarm with shaft drive
  • Tachometer with analog display
  • Elevated exhaust system
  • Compact steel tank
  • Toothed foot rests

The R nineT Scrambler does not have the gold anodized upside down forks of some of the other models.

Cruise is known for doing most of his own stunts. While filming in Paris in the fall of 2017, the actor suffered a horrific ankle injury. Believe it or not, the filmmakers were able to use the very scene where Cruise was injured in the final version of the film! You can see it at the 3:00 mark of this interview on the Graham Norton Show!

Behind the Scenes: M:I6 Motorcycle Chase Scene

What’s more, there are photos of Tom Cruise on an unidentified stunt bike that is not an R nineT, but perhaps a customized version of one of the BMW F Series enduros.

Here’s behind-the-scenes look at Cruise back on the R NineT, shooting down through a tube station and back up the other side — as video by some locals on the scene!

And here’s a photo of Cruise emerging from the subway on the R nineT — with a little air under his rear tire!

Below, you can see much of the motorcycle in Mission: Impossible 6 , with Tom Cruise weaving helmetless between traffic on his BMW R nineT before broadsiding a Peugeot after an ill-timed, over-the-shoulder rearward look.

BMW Bikes and Cars in Mission Impossible Series

Mission Impossible 5 Motorcycle

BMW has been the official automotive partner for the Mission Impossible franchise for years. In Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation , Tom Cruise drove a BMW M3 and road a BMW S1000RR superbike, and the company introduced their new 7 Series flagship. In 2011, BMW debuted their i8 hybrid supercar in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol .

The partnership not only involves supplying the actual cars and bikes for the films, but important technical support to modify them for stunt work.

The new bmw m5 in „mission: impossible – fallout"..

7 June 2018

With special agent Ethan Hunt – aka Tom Cruise – behind the wheel, in „Mission: Impossible – Fallout" fans will get to see the new BMW M5 driven to the limit: flying sideways around corners, tires smoking and the engine always redlining. It’s the perfect high performance partnership – what other vehicle is better suited for a blisteringly fast escape from some of the world’s deadliest villains?

PERFECTLY EQUIPPED FOR THE CHASE.

Looking impossibly cool in Singapore Grey metallic paint and kitted out with characteristic M Performance Parts like the black kidney grille and carbon-fibre mirror caps, the new BMW M5 looks every bit the leading movie star. The high-performance sedan is not just visually impressive, however. Under the hood, the 4.4-litre V8 biturbo engine with TwinPower Turbo technology and 441 kW/600 hp provides plenty of power. The newly developed high-performance M xDrive all-wheel drive ensures that Ethan Hunt always has the best-possible traction and superior driving dynamics to keep him ahead of the bad guys.

BMW and ‘Mission: Impossible’ are a perfect fit. This provides the ideal stage for our most dynamic business athlete: the BMW M5.

ALL UNDER CONTROL.

„Mission: Impossible" star Tom Cruise was particularly enthusiastic about the BMW M5, attesting to its outstanding acceleration and great driving characteristics. Film fans know that Cruise likes to perform all his own driving stunts, so they won’t be surprised to see him behind the wheel again in „Fallout".

bmw motorcycle tom cruise fallout

BMW ALL-STAR CAST.

The new BMW M5 isn’t the only BMW model that moviegoers can look forward to seeing in „Mission: Impossible – Fallout". Tom Cruise also rides the BMW R nineT Scrambler motorbike himself in one of the film’s key scenes, performing daring manoeuvres at breakneck speed in a wild chase through Paris. A car from BMW’s past – the 1986 BMW 5 Series Sedan – also makes a major appearance, starring in a chase scene that sets a new standard for the action-film genre.

PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES.

BMW M3 Mission Impossible

Already in the last part of the legendary film series a BMW M played an important role. In „Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation", Tom Cruise relies on a BMW M3 in Morocco. Particularly spectacular are the scenes that play in Rabat. A stunt remains in the memory, Cruise and his BMW M3 fly backwards over several steps and hit the ground anything but gently. All this, of course, with a good ending for the protagonist - and a less good for the BMW M3.

PURE BMW POWER.

BMW M5 Mission Impossible Fallout

The plot of „Mission: Impossible – Fallout" is still under wraps, but one thing’s for sure: when Ethan Hunt gets inside the new BMW M5, you’re guaranteed breath taking, fast-paced action all the way. This is one film you won’t want to miss seeing on the big screen! The action spectacular „Mission: Impossible – Fallout" hits cinemas worldwide on July 27.

Motorcycle news website RideApart.com described the scene in which star Tom Cruise puts the bike through its paces as an excellent spotlight on this motorcycle and motorcycles in general.

“While I imagine most audiences will be paying more attention to the action in general and probably not scrutinizingly focusing on the motorcycles, it’s nonetheless good to see bikes get put in front of millions of people. After all, motorcycles are cool, and sometimes folks just need to be reminded of that,” according to RideApart.

This wasn’t the only motorcycle featured in the film. Along with the BMW R nineT, a 2000s R 1200 RT was also featured in the film.

Tom Cruise Drives a 591-HP BMW M5 in Mission: Impossible – Fallout

The BMW R nineT Scrambler motorcycle and a 1986 BMW 5 Series Sedan also makes an appearance.

BMW News photo

Ethan Hunt and company are back in the latest movie Mission: Impossible – Fallout and BMW Group has announced its role as the exclusive automotive partner of this next installment of the action film franchise. Audiences will be seeing a range of vehicles from the Bavarian brand in the motion picture like the near-600-horsepower BMW M5 in several action-packed scenes.

The BMW M5 movie car has been styled with parts from the BMW M Performance Parts such as a black kidney grille and carbon-fiber mirror caps. And with a 591 hp 4.4-liter V8 biturbo engine powering the super sedan, equipped with a newly-developed high-performance M xDrive all-wheel drive, the “BMW M5 makes sure that Cruise’s Ethan Hunt always has the best-possible traction and superior driving dynamics to keep him ahead of his enemies,” said the German manufacturer.

Also making an appearance will be the BMW R nineT Scrambler motorcycle, used for “daring [maneuvers] at rapid speed in a wild chase through Paris,“ and the now-vintage 1986 BMW 5 Series Sedan “in a high-octane scene.”

With a partnership that dates back to 2011, this is not the first time BMW vehicles have starred alongside Cruise in this action franchise. The revolutionary BMW i8 hybrid sports car debuted in the 2011 movie Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

In 2015, “the BMW M3 pulled off one of the most spectacular backwards-driving stunts in film history" in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. It was followed by a heart-thumping high-speed chase involving Ethan Hunt on a BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR through the mountain roads outside Marrakech.

While you wait for the global opening of the Mission: Impossible – Fallout in cinemas, July 27, you can check out the official trailer and BMW's very own movie montage below.

The Insane Story Behind Mission: Impossible Fallout’s Arc De Triomphe Motorcycle Stunt

bmw motorcycle tom cruise fallout

The Mission: Impossible films are defined by their spectacular action set pieces. Mention Ghost Protocol , and your first thought likely goes to the Burj Khalifa sequence (and yes, your palms will get sweaty). Bring up Rogue Nation , and you might remember Tom Cruise hanging on the outside of a massive airplane as it takes off. The latest film, Mission: Impossible -- Fallout , has multiple stunt sequences to choose from, so when CinemaBlend sat down across from director Chris McQuarrie, we chose to ask him about the motorcycle chase around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. The story of how they pulled it off does NOT disappoint, so I'll let McQ take it from here:

Click Here to Buy Tickets for Mission: Impossible - Fallout on Fandango !

If you have even a passing interest in filmmaking, and the construction of a blockbuster action movie, then the Mission: Impossible franchise provides you with endless fare to overanalyze, and Christopher McQuarrie serves as a masterclass professor in pulling off the magic tricks. For real, study what he does -- and has done on both Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible -- Fallout -- and then try to hire Tom Cruise. Because as McQuarrie explains, that guy is up for anything .

Earlier in our conversation with McQuarrie, he commented that Ethan Hunt ( Tom Cruise ) is both lucky AND good, but luck favors the prepared... and Ethan's always prepared for whatever might come. Well, McQuarrie and his team are always prepared, so when the Arc de Triomphe was cleared from traffic for a short period of time, they jumped. They had two hours, total, to get the shot. That meant 30 minutes to get their stunt cars going in the right direction. And 15 minutes of Tom Cruise driving against traffic on a motorcycle, surrounded by cameras.

It's an astonishing scene . One that we gush about in the latest episode of ReelBlend, a podcast that we recorded IN PARIS, the night of the movie's World Premiere.

Powered by RedCircle

Mission: Impossible -- Fallout opens in theaters on July 27, and it delivers on the wall-to-wall action that you have come to expect from the Mission franchise. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team have to take on a personal mission after Ethan makes a crucial decision, one that puts the world at risk. In the process, they interact with an old threat... and meet new ones in the process.

It's always a blast to sit across from the team behind the Mission: Impossible films and discuss how these movies are made. Simon Pegg recently shared with us how Fortnite helps his character, Benji, train. And the cast had a fun debate about whether Ethan Hunt is a good agent, or just lucky. We will have plenty more from the Paris world premiere as the movie's opening date draws closer.

Story

BMW has had a long association with the Mission Impossible movie series over the years. Right from the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept traversing across the streets of Mumbai, to that fantastic chase sequence in the fifth installment with the BMW S1000 RR , the movies have placed the German cars prominently in the narrative, and that's something we expect to see with the forthcoming Mission: Impossible - Fallout as well, the sixth movie in the franchise. The new trailer of the upcoming movie shows actor Tom Cruise astride the BMW R nineT Scrambler , along with a host of other offerings from the Bavarian manufacturer.

(The E28 BMW 5 Series also features in the latest Mission Impossible franchise)

The product placement deal allows a host of BMWs to feature in the movie. The BMW R nineT Scrambler very obviously is part of a chase sequence as per the trailer. The bike looks stock for the movie, barring the bar-end mirrors and a fender eliminator as some of the subtle changes. Too bad though, Tom Cruise, who is riding the motorcycle, does so without wearing a helmet (eventually crashing in the next scene).

The trailer also reveals Cruise driving the beautiful E28 second generation BMW 5 Series , while a few R1200 GS police motorcycles are also part of the sequence. There's also a BMW F800 GS somewhere in that ensemble, making a brief appearance in the trailer.

It's interesting to note that motorcycles are making a comeback to the big screen, especially in a big way. Apart from Mission: Impossible - Fallout, the upcoming Marvel flick Ant-Man And The Wasp', will also feature the Triumph Thruxton R in one of its major chase sequences. Marvel is known for its product tie-ins across several movies, having featured several Harley-Davidson motorcycles across the Avengers and Captain America movies.

Tom Cruise rides BMW Scrambler in movie

Tom Cruise Mission Impossible

Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the sixth Mission Impossible movie, this time riding a BMW R nineT Scrambler through Paris before t-boning a car.

The 56-year-old actor insists he does all his own stunts and seems to be riding the bike the wrong way around the Arc de Triomphe in Mission Impossible: Fallout .

However, he obviously doesn’t crash the bike as shown in the above clip. That’s got to be computer-generated images (CGI).

Tom insists that most of the motorcycle stunts in his movies are real and that there is “not a lot of CGI” used .

This video backs up some of his claims showing Tom now riding a BMW R nineT Pure, not the Scrambler from the other scenes, and even doing a couple of tricky spin turns … while not wearing a helmet!

In 2015’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Tom almost gets his knee down while riding a BMW S 1000 RR – again without a helmet!

Product placement

Product placement is when companies pay good money to have their product featured in movies.

It has been going on as long as films have been around.

However, it has become big business in recent decades, especially with blockbuster franchises such as James Bond, Bourne and Mission Impossible.

Matt Damon in Jason Bourne tom cruise

All of these have featured their fair share of motorcycles and mainly BMW motorcycles!

The Mission Impossible franchise has also seen its share of BMWs, starting with the original 1996 film.

Motorcycles were introduced in Mission Impossible 2 in 2000, but they were Triumphs.

In the chase scene, a baddie on a Triumph Daytona chases Tom on a Triumph Speed Triple on the tar and dirt around Sydney.

This is notable for the “quick tyre change” to knobbies midway through the chase!

Tom Cruise: riding career

Tom began riding at the age of 10 and owns several motorcycles including a Vyrus 987 C3 4V worth more than $100,000.

These days it seems he must include a motorcycle component in any movie contract he signs.

It all started over 30 years ago with Top Gun where he rode a Kawasaki Ninja GPz900R.

Tom Cruise in Top Gun - great escape

Other movies in which Tom has starred alongside motorcycles include Oblivion, Knight and Day,  and Edge of Tomorrow .

Even when he is not riding bikes in his movies, he often rides to the set on one of his many motorcycles.

Munich. The BMW Group announces its role as the exclusive worldwide automotive partner of the next installment of Paramount Pictures’ and Skydance Media’s legendary action film franchise, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” opening in cinemas around the world from 27 July. BMW has been a partner of the iconic film series since 2011, and in the upcoming film, BMW once again provides a range of vehicles and global marketing in support of the release.

The new movie finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the direct.

The team of agents is reinforced by the new BMW M5 and a number of other BMW models, including the 1986 BMW 5 Series Sedan, the BMW 7 Series Sedan and the BMW R nineT Scrambler.

Styled with characteristic BMW M Performance Parts, such as a black kidney grille and carbon-fibre mirror caps, the BMW M5 makes an impressive appearance in the film. With its powerful 4.4-litre V8 biturbo engine with TwinPower Turbo technology and 441 kW/600 hp (combined fuel consumption: 10.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 241 g/km) and the newly-developed high-performance M xDrive all-wheel drive, the BMW M5 makes sure that Cruise’s Ethan Hunt always has the best-possible traction and superior driving dynamics to keep him ahead of his enemies.

The BMW R nineT Scrambler can be seen in key scenes, performing daring manoeuvres at rapid speed in a wild chase through Paris. A 1986 BMW 5 Series Sedan, from BMW’s historic past, also makes a major appearance in a high-octane scene which sets a new standard for the action-film genre.

The trailer released by Paramount Pictures provides a taste of what is to come:

As part of the collaboration with Paramount Pictures, BMW’s global “Mission to Thrill” themed marketing campaign will promote and support the theatrical release and include cobranded broadcast TV media highlighting a range of different vehicles, print ads, digital across BMW sites as well as other key channels, in dealer activations and more.

“BMW and ‘Mission: Impossible’ are a perfect fit. We are proud of our long-running partnership with Paramount Pictures and that our powerful cars and motorcycles have been able to enhance this iconic film series time and again. For exciting chases, you need cars with impressive driving dynamics and handling,” said Uwe Dreher, head of Brand Communications BMW, BMW M, BMW i. “This provides the ideal stage for our most dynamic business athlete: the BMW M5.”

“We are excited to welcome BMW back as a partner on ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout,’” said Irene Trachtenberg, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Partnerships, Paramount Pictures. “Our partnership with BMW provides a global platform to reach Mission: Impossible movie fans around the world and leverage our mutual passion for technological innovation, high octane action and compelling storytelling.”

The “Mission Impossible” partnership between BMW and Paramount Pictures, which dates from 2011, has already provided movie fans with several classic moments of cinematic history. The BMW brand has been meaningfully integrated into the stories of each film, showcasing forward thinking technologies and vision that have helped the IMF agents successfully complete their missions.

The BMW i Vision Dynamics concept vehicle, which previewed the revolutionary BMW i8 hybrid sports car and technologies like Head-Up Display and active Pedestrian Detection, made its debut in “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol” in 2011.

In 2015, this was followed by “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” in which the BMW M3 pulled off one of the most spectacular backwards-driving stunts in film history. The movie car once again provided a glimpse of future technology with the handprint unlock function, while motorcycle enthusiasts will fondly remember the high-speed chase in which Ethan Hunt rides the BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR through the mountains outside Marrakech.

“Mission: Impossible - Fallout” promises to be the most thrilling mission yet.

Why 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' Used A Classic BMW 5 Series For The Incredible Car Chase

Tom Cruise pushes an E28 BMW 5 Series to its limit in the sixth installment of the action movie franchise.

If you've seen Mission Impossible: Fallout, you probably noticed that BMWs feature prominently in the action scenes. The Bavarian automaker has a long-established partnership with the Mission: Impossible franchise and the latest film is no exception . The brand-new BMW M5 makes its cinematic debut in Mission: Impossible Fallout , but it's sadly limited to a few minutes of screen time being remotely driven by Benji, played by Simon Pegg.

Instead, the film's star car is a classic 1986 E28 BMW 5 Series, which you can see taking some serious punishment in a new behind the scenes video released by BMW. As usual, Tom Cruise did his own stunt driving and pushed the old BMW to its limit, drifting around the streets of Paris, driving between narrow pillars, and jumping down stairs.

"We're looking at all sorts of things, "oh, it'd be great to get something classic," and we're all talking," the film's stunt coordinator, Wade Eastwood, said in a recent interview with Jalopnik when explaining why the team chose the car for the film's central chase scene in Paris. "It came in this really weird green color, and it came to my workshop first. And they said, "oh yeah we're probably going to spray it another color," and I'm like, "don't touch it." Christopher McQuarrie, the film's director, thought the color choice was "risky," but it perfectly complemented the cobbled streets of Paris and the textures and tones at the time of year.

"Five or six" stunt cars were used for the scene, and the stunt driver even rolled one of them while rehearsing the jump down the stairs, so the suspension was modified for the final stunt to stop it rolling. The other cars were mostly stock apart from modifications to the handbrake so they "didn't rip the handbrake out."

The superbly shot car chase is just one part of an elaborate action sequence that starts with Cruise evading Paris police in a box truck before switching to a BMW R nineT motorcycle and finally the E28 BMW 5 Series. The bike sequence is arguably the most nail-biting part, which sees Cruise driving against oncoming traffic around the Arc de Triomphe without wearing a helmet. You have to respect Cruise risking his life at the age of 56 doing all his own stunts for real.

Edgar Wright's Baby Driver had by far the best movie car chase of 2017 , and Mission: Impossible might end up being our favorite chase scene of 2018 thanks to Cruise's impressive stunt driving and Christopher McQuarrie's slick direction devoid of quick cuts and unnecessary shaky cam.

10 Motorcycles Tom Cruise Has Ridden in Movies, Explained

Tom Cruise has performed an unnatural number of motorcycle stunts as an action star while riding the best ones available.

Tom Cruise has cemented his name in the history of blockbuster cinema as one of its most bankable and profitable actors — and its arguably last movie star . The legacy has been earned, in great part, on the back of his famous perfectionism and his penchant for performing extreme stunts. For years, he has been using his movies as a medium to play out his thrill-seeking tendencies, and he’s been quite open about the fact. As a testament to his real-life “need for speed,” the man owns a sizable collection of airplanes, sports cars, and motorcycles.

This interest visibly overlaps with his movie roles — most famously, he developed a training program for his Top Gun: Maverick co-stars so that they could convincingly portray the cockpit scenes. Similarly, his enduring love for motorcycles showcases itself as a signature element across his filmography. Cruise has helmed an uncommon number of motorcycle stunt sequences as an action movie star, and he is always found doing so on the best motorcycles on the market. Here are 10 motorcycles that Tom Cruise has ridden in movies.

10 Kawasaki GPZ900R — Top Gun

The Kawasaki GPZ900R accompanied Cruise in a Top Gun scene that has garnered iconic status in Hollywood history. This is the motorcycle that his character, Maverick is riding as the air force pilot attempts to race an F14 fighter jet. The GPZ900R holds an important place in the history of modern sports bikes. It was the very first model by Kawasaki to be pegged with the Ninja tag, which has become a commonly recognized brand name in automobiles today. Developed in secret by Kawasaki over many years, the GPZ900R was the fastest production motorcycle of its time and the first to cross the 150 mph barrier — a fitting companion for a character known for his “need for speed.”

9 Triumph Speed Triple – Mission: Impossible 2

The Mission Impossible franchise introduced audiences to a new brand of cinema entertainment with elaborate stunt set pieces led by Cruise. The film series has given us many iconic stunts over the years. Mission: Impossible 2 includes one such sequence: an extended motorcycle chase that has mostly faded from memory, but was fresh and exciting at the time. Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, gets up to all sorts of antics in this scene, shooting down pursuers left and right while riding a Triumph Street Triple. The model continues to be produced by Triumph Motorcycles, and the dual headlights remain an important part of its design language to this day. The Triumph Street Triple is particularly noted for its unusual three-cylinder engine configuration that lends this model a unique sound and character.

8 Triumph Bonneville — Mission: Impossible III

Mission: Impossible III missed out on a key feature of the film series as there were no motorcycle chases in that scene. But as with his love of running, Cruise managed to shoehorn a two-wheeler moment in this movie as well. The scene in question is a short but neat one where Ethan arrives at an airstrip riding a Triumph Bonneville, modified in the scrambler style. Produced by one of the oldest motorcycle companies in the world, the Bonneville was first introduced in 1959, and retains much of its heritage in its present-day design. One can definitely see the appeal that the model would have for the petrolhead in Cruise, and he is known to keep a Bonneville in his personal motorcycle collection as well. Meanwhile, one of the Bonnevilles that was used in the movie was auctioned for nearly $30,000 .

7 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic – Days of Thunder

It doesn’t matter if it’s a movie about NASCAR drivers — Cruise will find an excuse to insert a motorcycle somewhere. In Days of Thunder , he stars as a driver with a background in open-wheel racing, who wants to move over to NASCAR. Obviously, his choice of commute has to be a motorcycle. He shows up in a dramatic "speak of the devil" fashion at the beginning of the movie astride a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, just as the on-screen interlocutors are casting doubts about his abilities as a racer. The wide, low-slung handlebars combined with the triple headlights is a classic Harley look that immediately radiates coolness.

6 Ducati Hypermotard – Knight and Day

The motorcycle chase in Knight and Day falls squarely in the category of the Mission: Impossible -style blockbuster spy thrillers, taking place in an old European city across winding alleys and old town squares. So, it’s quite appropriate that the motorcycle that features in this chase is a Ducati, which is often described as the Ferrari of motorcycles. Over the years, Ducati has strategically developed an iconic series in every major category of motorcycles. The Ducati Hypermotard follows the company’s classic signatures in how it stylistically stands out from the competition as a unique offering. Most noticeably, it is equipped with a 939 cc engine in a motorcycle category that is mostly occupied by smaller engines in the 450-700 cc range. As a hypermotard, it is also a realistic motorcycle for the twisted chase scene across the streets of Seville.

5 BMW R NineT Scrambler – Mission: Impossible - Fallout

With technological advancements, Cruise was able to offer audiences even more motorcycle chases in later Mission Impossible movies. The one in Fallout is a worthy contender for one of the most exciting stunt sequences ever in the movie series, a three-minute extravaganza where Ethan Hunt is chased across Paris by police officers. BMW’s product strategy with regard to their two-wheeler products can be compared to Ducati, as they have built a number of iconic motorcycle series across limited categories. The BMW R NineT is a very versatile model with a similar reputation, and garners interest as a top-notch entry in the modern retro category.

4 Triumph Thruxton – Edge of Tomorrow

It may appear as a tenuous proposition at first glance — a classic motorcycle chase in a sci-fi movie about super-powered aliens. But Edge of Tomorrow makes it work, and we find Cruise’s character racing down the streets of London in a proper British motorcycle: the Triumph Thruxton. Much like the Bonneville, the Thruxton also derives its name and legacy from a classic motorcycle. However, the Thruxton was originally an endurance racing motorcycle, and reflects that heritage in its modern-day counterpart. This motorcycle can be categorized as a café racer, and it comes with a twin-cylinder engine, an elegant retro look, and clip-on handlebars.

3 Honda CRF 450X – Oblivion

Oblivion is an underrated sci-fi movie from Cruise’s filmography, although it has gained renewed interest with recent years and looks ready to stand the test of time. He plays the role of a lone worker in a barren, futuristic world, taking orders from an all-knowing AI to repair autonomous drones during the day. In order to get to the location of these drones, he has a trusty futuristic motorcycle that easily travails the arid dunes of this mysterious land. The futuristic motorcycle is in fact a modified Honda CRF450X, a popular enduro motorcycle with a stellar reputation for its reliability — a very realistic choice on part of the filmmakers.

2 BMW Motorrad S1000RR – Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

Rogue Nation features perhaps the best motorcycle scene from Cruise, ever. It is one of the top highlights of the recent Mission: Impossible movies, and Cruise was even reported to be riding as fast as 130 mph during the course of its shooting. The unique headlight configurations of the BMW S1000RR is an unforgettable fixture of this scene with its tasteful asymmetry leading the way for Cruise’s aggressive maneuvers. The S1000RR has a stellar reputation in the sports bike category, having originally been designed as a racing bike for the Superbike World Championship.

1 Kawasaki H2 – Top Gun: Maverick

Released over three decades after the original, Top Gun: Maverick was bound to have some callbacks to the first movie. The movie did come with a fair few nostalgic moments, but it managed to do so in a tasteful, wholesome way that was well-received by audiences. It also recreated the iconic scene where Maverick chases a fighter jet in his Kawasaki motorcycle. However, motorheads saw an added layer of relevance that was placed into the scene in the sequel. Top Gun: Maverick sees Cruise’s character riding a Kawasaki H2 down the airstrip — the modern-day successor of the GPZ900R, which was featured in the original movie. The Kawasaki H2 also happens to be the fastest production motorcycle at the present day, just as the GPZ900R was when Top Gun was released.

The Impressive Motorcycle Collection of Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise needs no introduction. Credited as one of the greatest actors of all time, his films have grossed over $10.1 billion worldwide and earned him numerous accolades, including three Golden Globe Awards and three nominations for Academy Awards. As one of the highest-paid actors in the world, he's now sat on a net worth of around $600 million - a fortune he's known to draw on to feed his love of adrenaline. The actor might be known for his action films, but his love for all things fast and furious also extends into his private life. His collection of motorcycles and cars is the stuff of legend, and even includes the most expensive motorcycle in the world. If you've ever wondered what type of ride the Mission Impossible star prefers, find out now as we take a deep delve into the very impressive motorcycle collection of Tom Cruise.

Vyrus 987 C3 4V

Vyrus 987 C3 4V

If we're looking into Tom Cruise's motorcycle collection, there's only one place to start - the Vyrus 987 C3 4V. Boasting a 1.2-liter engine and top speeds of 209 miles per hour, there's no question this is a beast of a bike. But despite its power, it still manages to be incredibly lightweight and easy to ride, weighing in at just 154 kgs. Cruise debuted the bike at his 51st birthday celebration at the Hotel Chateau Marmont, where his speedy exit made headlines. But it wasn't just how fast he was going at the time that impressed us. It was the astronomical price he was revealed to have paid for the motorcycle. According to hotcars.com, the Vyrus 987 C3 4V (which, by the way, holds the title of the most powerful production bike in the world) is worth the astronomical sum of $103,769, making it the most expensive motorcycle in the world.

Kawasaki GPZ900R

Kawasaki GPZ900R

If you've ever watched "Top Gun," you'll already know what the Kawasaki GPZ900R looks like. This was the bike that Cruise used to show off his impressive riding stunts in the classic 1986 movie. In the sequel, it was replaced by the Kawasaki Ninja H2R, but apparently, Cruise was impressed enough by the original to snap up a model for his own private collection. With a 998cc engine and a maximum speed of 248 miles per hour, the middleweight motorcycle is a fast, furious machine whose revolutionary design directly inspired the modern-day sportbike.

Ducati 999R

Ducati 999R

Ducati is an Italian brand that's been in the motorcycle game since the 50s. Known for its stylish, high-performance machines, it's a popular brand with an enviable reputation. The Ducati 999R was released in 2003 as a limited edition model. Only 200 exist in the entire world. One of them has made its way into Tom Cruise's collection, and by all accounts, it's a beauty. Powered by the super-advanced Testastretta engine and boasting a 6-speed gearbox, the bike (which was released specifically for racing purposes) is credited as one of the most powerful motorcycles ever produced. Tops speeds are an impressive 179 miles per hour. Cruise treated himself to a gray version of the machine for his 46th birthday.

BMW S1000 RR

BMW S1000 RR

If you've ever wondered what motorcycle Tom Cruise rode around on in "Mision Impossible - Rogue Nation," wonder no more. The bike was the BMW S1000 RR, a machine previously made famous when Michael Dunlop rode it to victory at a score of races and championships. The motorcycle was originally intended to be limited to a production run of 1000 (hence the name) but when more and more customers started demanding it, BMW duly obliged and increased the numbers. With its reputation as one of BMW's most powerful, reliable, and stable bikes, it's little wonder Cruise fell so much in love with the machine on "Mission Impossible," he decided to take it home with him.

Confederate Hellcat

Confederate Hellcat

Although Confederate Motors might be a tiny little operation with a relatively small range, it clearly knows how to attract headlines, not to mention celebs - as well as Cruise, Brad Pitt is also rumored to be a big fan. When Cruise made his dramatic entry to the premiere of "Mission Impossible 3" on the back of a motorcycle, it was his Confederate Hellcat that set all the tongues wagging. With its unique, revolutionary design, the motorcycle is nothing if not a treat for the eyes. Described by silodrome.com as a 'thoroughly American motorcycle,' the machine is packed with more technology and engineering than you'd believe possible. With its 2.2 liter engine and its top speeds of 121 mph, this is a vehicle that was designed to impress. It's also credited as one of the most reliable motorcycles ever made, which may just explain its $65,000 price tag.

Honda CRF450C

Honda CRF450C

The Honda CRF450C is yet another motorcycle that starred alongside Cruise in a movie (this time, "Oblivion") before making its way home with him. It features a 5-speed transmission, a single-cylinder, 449cc engine, maximum speeds of 105 miles per hour, and an eye-grabbing, futuristic design.

BMW R9 T Scrambler

BMW R9 T Scrambler

The BMW R9 T Scrambler is the motorcycle Cruise crashed on "Mission Impossible: Fallout." Fortunately, it managed to survive the collision and make its way into his permanent collection. The motorcycle boasts a comfortable riding experience, a 1170cc engine, and top speeds of 124 miles per hour.

Ducati Desmosedici RR

Ducati Desmosedici RR

Only 1500 Ducati Desmosedici RR exists. While we've got no idea where 1499 of them are, we can guarantee that one of them has found a permanent home with Cruise. With a powerful 800cc V4 engine that can hit top speeds of 200mph, the Ducati Desmosedici RR is a powerful beast that comes with an eye-watering price tag of $72,500.

Triumph Speed Triple

Triumph Speed Triple

The Triumph Speed Triple is a superbly impressive machine that featured alongside Cruise in “Mission Impossible II". Known for its distinctive looks, the Triumph Speed Triple is also a dream to handle, with a seating arrangement that offers optimal comfort during long rides. It's powered by an 885cc engine and is capable of top speeds of 143mph.

Triumph Bonneville Scrambler

Triumph Bonneville Scrambler

According to clementcycling.com, the Triumph Bonneville Scrambler was built specifically for "Mission Impossible III." Once filming was done, it made its way to auction, where the eventual buyer was none other than Cruise himself. By all accounts, Cruise splashed out $29,250 for his new ride.

BMW featured in Mission Impossible: Fallout Trailer

Nico DeMattia

May 22, 2018 / 2 minutes read

For the past few Mission Impossible movies, BMW has been the car of choice. From the BMW Vision Dynamics Concept to the BMW M3 and various BMW motorcycles, the Bavarian brand has been featured in Mission Impossible movies for years now. Well, Ethan Hunt is back in the new movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout. It features all of the huge Tom Cruise stunts we’re used to, tons of action and, of course, more BMWs.

This time, though, the product placement doesn’t seem so obvious, at least from the trailer. In the previous MI movie, Rogue Nation, Simon Pegg’s character drives a BMW M3 and so clearly uses the iDrive system. While it doesn’t really distract from the plot, it’s so clearly a product placement that it borders on humorous to car enthusiasts who know. From the trailer of this new one, though, the product placement seems a bit less in-your-face.

For instance, we see Cruise’s Hunt riding a BMW R nineT Scrambler and, eventually, knocked off of it, being thrown several yards. It’s a great looking bike and it looks cool as hell in the trailer but its BMW badge is subtle, so it’s not so obvious as Pegg using the rotary iDrive controller.

bmw motorcycle tom cruise fallout

The best BMW scene in the trailer, though, comes when Cruise is driving an awesome green E28 BMW 5 Series and eventually drives it into Rebecca Hall’s character, Isla Faust on a motorcycle. Obviously, the scene isn’t great because Tom Cruise runs over Rebecca Hall because that’s actually disappointing as her character was great in the previous movie. It’s awesome because it’s a green E28 5 Series that’s doing the runnin’ over.
