BMW MINI Pavillion

BMW Group has created The MINI Pavillion for visitors in central Munich - view from the entrance

The new MINI Pavillion opened in October of 2019, is the reincarnation of the BMW Pavillion that offered an in-town showcase of the BMW brand for visitors.  Today, the MINI reinvention takes that idea up a level and has now become a place where you can learn about the MINI brand.  The Pavillion incorporates a snack / coffee bar, an eyeglass boutique, a Harmon Kardon lounge, a work-share space where you can book a meeting room, and a Barber offering wet shaves, beard styling and haircuts.  A perfect place for an afternoon coffee or cake.

The MINI Pavillion in Munich has current model cars on display for visitors

The MINI Pavillion is a freestanding building that closely resembles a car dealership from the outside with surrounding windows and new MINI cars on display.  If you arrive after hours, they generally have spectacular lighting on the cars on display, so it’s still a sight to see when they are closed.

Getting to the MINI Pavillion

Location: MINI Pavillion – Lenbachplatz 7a; D-80333 Munich

Hours: Mon – Friday 10am – 7pm, Saturday 10am – 6pm, closed Sunday and for special events.

The MINI Pavillion is a 3-minute walk from the Karlsplatz / Stachus S-Bahn / U-Bahn Station, but is also within walking distance of the Hauptbahnhof (central train station) or Marienplatz as well. (basically, between the two and 1 block to the north).

Lunch Tip Nearby BMW Welt / Museum / Factory

For Americans (or anybody) who is craving a German take on the American-styled pizza, a visit to the Pizza Hut across the street from BMW Welt is a must!  I know this sounds silly, but the Salami Pan Pizza is better than any pepperoni counterpart version on offer from Pizza Hut in America, and you will be pleasantly surprised.  The prices are reasonable and there are even lunch deals available, however it’s amazing how few visitors make the walk across the street for a quick and hearty lunch.  Pizza Hut is located on the opposite corner from the BMW Welt, or across the Petuelring from the BMW Museum and Headquarters (Pizza Hut am Olympiazentrum – Lerchenauer Str. 42, D-80809 München )

Visit the Olympiapark

The Olympiapark is directly across the street from the BMW Welt in Munich

  • Olympia Tower (Turm) – Take in 360-degree views from 190 meters above Munich
  • Take an adventurous (guided) walk across the rooftop of the Olympic Stadium
  • Zip Line from the rooftop across the Olympic Stadium
  • Descend from the stadium roof in a 40-meter drop to the ground – exhilarating and unforgettable.
  • Or you could just have lunch…

If the adventures are too much, you can simply stroll around the park and view the venues and relaxing atmosphere.  Entrance to the Olympiapark is free, and only some of the venues have an admission fee. There are direct walks to Olympiapark from the BMW Welt that cross over the busy street.

BMW Welt has many things to see and do.  You can spend the better part of a day there, or brush through the exhibits in 30 minutes.  Ideally, you should allow about 2 hours for the BMW Welt itself.  You can add in time for lunch, any tour that you have booked, and your BMW day will be quite full.

  • BMW Welt – minimum 2 hours
  • BMW Museum – up to 2 hours
  • BMW Factory tour – 2.5 hours
  • Add time for lunch or dinner
  • Add time for a browse in the Lifestyle Shop

Do I need to make a reservation to visit BMW Welt?

You do not need reservations for BMW Welt, itself.  However, if you plan to take a factory tour or other guided tour of BMW, the BMW Museum, of BMW Welt, then you should start by booking tour reservations in advance .  Then you can set aside that day as the day to visit the BMW Welt before or after your reserved tour.

Can Children enjoy the BMW Welt?

Of course!  There are special and educational exhibits for children.  BMW Welt has special programs for kids including a monthly “Night at the Museum” sleep over, however they are mostly in German, but children will have an exciting time at the BMW Welt in activities in English.  Note that there is a minimum age for participation in the Factory Tour (6yrs for accompanied children and 14yrs for unaccompanied)

Since its opening in 2007, BMW Welt has become the iconic entry point into the world of BMW in Munich.  There are so many opportunities for tours and learning adventures and with advance planning, you’ll be able to participate and enjoy in all that you want. Be sure to book in advance!  – JK

Fuel consumption and co2 emissions..

Official data on fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, electric consumption and electric range were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the NEDC take into account differences in the selected wheel and tire size; figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment.

WLTP values are used for assessing taxes and other vehicle-related charges that are (also) based on CO2 emissions, as well as for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies, if applicable. Where applicable, the NEDC values listed were calculated based on the new WLTP measurement procedure and then converted back to the NEDC measurement procedure for comparability reasons. For vehicles type-approved after 01.01.2021 only WLTP values officially exist. For more information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures, see  www.bmw.de/wltp .

I got that same messsage in German but left a voice mail in English and they called me back.

What did they say in the message in the call.

bmw plant tours munich

I've found this information here for a "duo tour" in English: https://tickets.bmw-welt.com/tickets/shop/index.html#/de_DE/section/bmw-werk/bmw-duo-tour-e

This was one of the links on the German website: https://www.bmw-welt.com/de/experience/popups/fuehrungen-erleben/06_bmw_group_werkfuehrung.html

If you switch the language of the above site to English, it does not give you an option to buy the ticket online (which is quite stupid, as an international call may not be practical, especially if you can't get through).

I don't know why they only offer a "duo tour" in English, and not the standard tour. Other than that, they only seem to offer a "premium tour". Both tour descriptions (for the English tours) are in German! (extreme stupidity at work here ...)

What I'd do, have a look at those two tours, make sure that it says (E) for English, do a google translation of the description, and then book whichever you prefer. They both include other stuff as well as the factory, and I'm not sure myself which of these two tours I'd book. At first glance, the Duo Tour seems to show more of the plant than the Premium Tour, but I'm not sure.

I would do the factory tour (BMW Group Werkführung. - 120 mins) if that's what you are most interested in.

Other tours are:

-combi tour: Museum + Welt (90 mins)

-Duo tour : Welt + Factory (150 mins)

-Premium : Welt+ Museum+Factory (195 mins)

bmw plant tours munich

The heart of the “Bayerische Motoren Werke” is located in Bavaria. Alongside the parent plant in Munich, the state capital, BMW Group also operates high-volume full plants in Dingolfing and Regensburg. As more BMWs roll off the line at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig in Germany, they are now accompanied by MINI vehicles. There are also major international locations, such as Spartanburg in the USA, Rosslyn in South Africa, Shenyang in China, and San Luis de Potosí in Mexico, while the BMW Group Plant Debrecen is currently under construction in Hungary. In Great Britain, the BMW Group manufactures MINI vehicles in Oxford and Rolls-Royce cars in Goodwood. These internationally renowned production facilities together form Production Network 1.

However, the BMW Group also operates Production Network 2 - and has done since 1957! What started with the production of the BMW Isetta in England now encompasses seven locations in Asia, North Africa, and South America. All of these are in markets with high rates of duty on imported vehicles. Cars manufactured in those markets are not subject to these customs regulations.

First production of high-voltage batteries in PNW2 in Thailand.

As part of PNW2, the BMW Group operates three of its own plants in Brazil (since 2014), India (2007) and Thailand (2000), where the first independent production of high-voltage batteries for electrified cars within PNW2 was recently launched. PNW2 also manufactures cars in four plants run in collaboration with local partners located in Indonesia (started in 1976), Malaysia (1979), Vietnam (restarted in 2021) and Egypt (restarted in 2023).

“The BMW Group Production Network 2 is not only fundamental to gaining a foothold in emerging markets with potential for growth, but also a profitable component of our business area. It is fascinating to see what innovative assembly solutions are used on one production line in manufacturing our products, from MINI to the BMW X7. That is a prime example of the high degree of versatility of our whole production system,” said Michael Nikolaides, Senior Vice President Production Network.

High versatility the key to success.

When it comes to local production depth (only a paint shop on site in certain places) or the number of local supply parts (local content), different legal regulations apply in the countries in which PNW2 manufactures vehicles. Furthermore, versatility is a key factor in the success of PNW2 in two regards. On the one hand, the system allows fast access to new markets and, should it be made necessary by changes to market demands, easy withdrawal.  On the other hand, production itself is extremely versatile at the individual sites. For example, up to 14 different models - from MINI and the BMW 1 Series to a BMW X7 - are manufactured on the same production line and up to 30 new vehicles can be introduced in a single year.  This is all possible thanks to simple, creative solutions, a low degree of automation and individually different cycle times - without affecting quality.  All vehicles meet the same delivery standard as in the large full plants in PNW1, of which Rosslyn in South Africa and Shenyang in China stem from PNW2, incidentally. In 2023, the BMW Group produced roughly 50,000 vehicles plus BMW motorcycles in the PNW2 plants - all with almost exclusively local employees and management.

Close collaboration with Production Network 1.

Figures like these are only possible in close collaboration with PNW1, for example in production planning, technical integration and component manufacture. These parts are prepared for distribution by six packing operations – three in Germany and one each in China, Mexico and the USA. That is where the relevant components are put together in ready-to-assemble kits, based on the IKEA model, and distributed to the PNW2 plants.

BMW unveils 2025 i4 with a reimagined gloss black front end and sportier digitized interior

Avatar for Scooter Doll

BMW USA has shared initial details of its 2025 model year i4 EV ahead of the all-electric sedan’s official launch this summer. Updates include a redesigned front fascia (all hail the kidney!), new exterior colors, and a digitized interior with sportier textiles.

The BMW i4 debuted as a 2022 model-year sedan, which we at Electrek have had the chance to test out multiple times (with mostly nice things to say about it). It’s not the flashiest or most powerful of the BMW “i” line of BEVs and has been updated with lower specs to make it one of the German automaker’s most affordable models.

In fact, the version of the i4 before today’s incoming 2025 model is BMW’s most affordable EV lease option . Last summer, we saw BMW introduce a new variant of the 2024 i4 called xDrive40, positioned between the dual-motor i4 M50 and the single-motor i4 eDrive40.

Today, BMW USA has begun teasing its 2025 i4 models, including a redesigned M50 xDrive.

BMW shares new 2025 i4 details, just no pricing yet

Per BMW USA, the 2025 model year versions of the i4 BEVs have received cosmetic updates inside and out. The German automaker states the sedan’s slim headlights and vertical kidney grille have been refreshed. The former sees adaptive single LED modules that generate a “Welcome Light” animation when the drive gets within ten feet.

The latter gains a new matte chrome finish and its upper section has been fully enclosed to further showcase its high-gloss black finish (seen above). The M Sport package of the 2025 BMW i4 now also includes a lower diffuser in the rear bumper, finished in high-gloss black to match its air intakes on the front fascia. Those elements were Cerium Grey in previous i4 models .

New exterior colors have been added as configurable options, including Cape York Green metallic and Vegas Red metallic. Future 2025 BMW i4 customers will also be able to select from several new alloy wheel options, including 19-inch M Aero bi-color wheels available in the M Sport package.

Inside the 2025 i4, BMW said it focused on providing digitalization and “a sharper sporting profile.” A new QuickSelect feature in iDrive reduces the number of physical buttons in the cockpit, and additional features can be activated via touch on the sedan’s center display, including climate control and seat/steering wheel heating. Here are some more deets, per the release:

The new BMW i4 and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe are fitted as standard with sport seats in perforated Sensatec. Vernasca leather trim with decorative quilting is available in five colors, including the new bi-color Black with Red Highlight. 2025 BMW i4s and new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupes come standard with a two-spoke steering wheel with polygonal rim and illuminated multifunction buttons. Adding the M Sport Package now brings an M leather steering wheel in a three-spoke design with a flat-bottomed rim and a black center stripe marking the 12 o’clock position. The three-spoke M leather steering wheel standard on the i4 M50 xDrive and M440i models additionally features M tricolor stitching and a red stripe at top dead center.

The new EVs will arrive powered by BMW Operating System 8.5, which will enable updated cloud-based BMW Maps navigation and more holistic access to the My BMW App. Two elements BMW’s press release lacks are any mention of upgrades to the 2025 i4’s performance and what its variants will cost when they launch.

The automaker says pricing will be announced soon, ahead of the official launch of the 2025 i4 in July 2024. The BEVs continue to be built near BMW’s headquarters in Munich, Germany. Here’s a look at the European version of the i4 while we await more details.

As such, the tournament will continue to be called the BMW Open when it enters a new era as an ATP 500 event next year.

“It was once again a fantastic tournament week,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, Head of BMW Region Europe, handing over the keys to the car at the presentation ceremony. “The BMW Group is proud to have been title sponsor of this magnificent sporting event in our home city for the 37 th time – and that we will continue to be the title sponsor. On behalf of the BMW Group, I would like to congratulate our champion Jan-Lennard Struff on an outstanding performance, his first title at the BMW Open, and winning the all-electric BMW i5 M60. I am sure that he you will have a lot of fun with this innovative 5 Series. Game, set, match, joy. We now look forward to shaping the future of the BMW Open in the ATP 500 category, along with our long-term partners.”

The BMW Open also enjoyed a first in the grandstands this year. For the first time, all nine days of the iconic tournament at MTTC Iphitos in Munich were sold out. Over the course of the week, a record crowd of more than 50,000 visitors defied the unsettled weather, created the unique atmosphere at the BMW Open and enjoyed also world-class tennis from a top-drawer field: among those with their sights set on winning the title at Aumeisterweg were Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev (GER), last year’s winner Holger Rune (NOR), former US Open champion Dominic Thiem (AUT) and Félix Auger-Aliassime (CAN).

In the end, Struff, who had already reached the final of the BMW Open in 2021 (losing 4-6, 6-7 to Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili), deservedly triumphed. Fritz couldn't withstand the pressure of the German's powerful game throughout the final. Similar was the fate of Rune in the semifinal against Struff. The world number twelve, who had won the BMW Open twice in a row and had not lost a match in Munich until then, had to accept defeat with a score of 2-6, 0-6.

“I'm thrilled that I finally made it, and it means a lot to me that I've won my first title in Germany. I can hardly wait for the next BMW Open, it's an incredible tournament,” said Struff, who received the trophy from Markus Söder, Minister President of Bavaria. The Winner’s Car BMW i5 M60 was presented from Bernhard Kuhnt on the Center Court. “That's a fantastic car,” said the visibly impressed champion. “I'm just happy.”

The champion can look forward to a powerful motor and sporty driving dynamics. The BMW i5 M60 offers the performance typical of a BMW M car – but in all-electric form. The new 5 Series saloon also underlines its sophisticated character with innovative digital services, including for in-car gaming, audio and video streaming, and particularly high-quality driver assistance systems.

Tournament Director Patrik Hühnen had checked out and collected the Winner’s Car himself at the production site – the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing – on behalf of the 2024 BMW Open champion.

Like the Winner’s Car, the shuttle fleet, which BMW operated during the tournament, was also all-electric. It comprised the fully-electric BMW i7, BMW i5 and BMW i5 Touring, BMW iX, BMW iX1 and BMW iX2 models.

Struff narrowly missed out on the BMW Open double. The doubles competition was won by Yuki Bhambri (IND) and Albano Olivetti (FRA) after an exciting final, with a score of 7-6; 7-6 against Struff and Andreas Mies (GER). The Allianz Para Trophy, which was held as part of the BMW Open and featured a top-class field, was won by Martín de la Puente. The 24-year-old Spaniard defeated Gordon Reid (SCO) 2:6; 7:5; 7:6 in the final. Frederic Cattaneo/Stephane Houdet (FRA) won the doubles, defeating Anthony Dittmar/Christoph Wilke (GER) 4:0; 4:2 in the final.
