Householders can now book a slot to use Warwickshire's tips just minutes before they arrive.

The ‘live’ bookings can be made up to minutes before arrival at all nine recycling centres across the county.

Previously, people could only do that up to 7.30am for appointments on the same day.

Warwickshire County Council says that the move to 'live' bookings will make it easier for residents to book a slot at the centre of their choice at a time that suits.

However, it has been stressed that numbers on site are still being managed carefully to allow for safe practices and avoid queuing, so booking on the day will depend on availability.

'Efficient visit, reduced queues'

Councillor Heather Timms, cabinet member for environment, climate and culture at Shire Hall, said: "We are pleased to offer householders an even more flexible and convenient way to book at visit to their local recycling centre. I want to thank householders in Warwickshire, who continue to separate out recycling at home and increase recycling rates.

"Information about recycling will be kept up to date on the web this autumn, including how to book an appointment to a recycling centre.

"The appointments lead to an efficient visit, with much-reduced queues. Recycling all that you can at home and at the recycling centre is one easy way for householders to cut their carbon emissions and help the environment."

Booking is required for a 15 minute slot for a car and there are also 30-minute slots for a car and small trailer on certain days at Lower House Farm near Atherstone, Cherry Orchard in Kenilworth and Burton Farm in Stratford.

Reuse shops at all recycling centres except Stockton are open.

The move to live bookings also comes on the heels of the news that thousands of extra slots were made available to people.

As we reported in our newsletter , online booking was introduced in May last year and there were initially teething problems with the booking system, most notably at Judkins in Nuneaton.

In fact, demand for appointments was so high that all of the slots for the Tuttle Hill-based facility were booked in just over 24 hours when it first re-opened.

But moves were made to ensure that more slots were released.

Environment Agency online services

Frequently asked questions about princes drive recycling centre.

Recycling symbols are those images that appear on all kinds of products, articles and packaging so that consumers know what type of waste they are (recyclable or non-recyclable) and what material they are made of.

Recycling symbols are important because they guide us to manage our waste well. However, there are some products and packaging that have not been properly labeled and do not contain a recycling label.

If you have waste that you don’t know how to classify, contact your nearest recycling center.

Brown bins are not that common in the UK. However, if the town hall to which you belong has them, this is what you can deposit in these containers:

The brown containers are for mixed recycling in most of the country’s municipalities where this color is issued. These mixed recycling materials include:

  • Plastic bottles
  • Beverage cans
  • Aerosol sprays
  • Aluminum foil (including trays)
  • Glass bottles and jars

However, you must make sure what type of materials you should deposit in your brown container by contacting your nearest recycling center directly, since in some municipalities the brown containers are intended for organic waste from the garden and food waste.

If you have recently cleaned out your closet and you have clothes that you no longer use and you are thinking of throwing them away, you can check on our website which is the nearest recycling center where you can leave clothes, textiles and shoes that you no longer use.

You can find this information by choosing the category Cloth & Fabrics. There you will see the list of recycling centers with contact information: addresses, phones, e-mails.

You just have to and put your postal code or address.

To visit a household waste recycling center you need to book an appointment in advance. To book an appointment at your nearest recycling center, you can visit their website and book your appointment online.

If the website of your tip does not have this function enabled, you can contact your nearest tip by phone to schedule your visit to the recycling center. In any of the cases, after your booking, you should receive a confirmation email.

The UK recyclable waste service is a municipal service. However, it is only for materials generated in homes.

The cost of commercial materials is variable and depends on many factors:

  • Location: in more frequented industrial estates, costs are usually lower than in rural places that are more difficult to access.
  • The type of waste: some materials, such as toxic waste, need special treatment so they use more resources to manage them, and therefore their price is high.
  • Volumes: the greater volume of waste you generate, the higher the price you have to pay for it. However, if the amounts produced are tons, you may get a reduction in the payment for handling your waste.

It is better to contact your nearest recycling center by phone or email to check the final cost.

What goes in the mixed recycling bins?

Tetrapaks (juice cartons) can be recycled at all of these sites.

“How far is the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa?”

Want to know how far is the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa? This is a question we get asked a lot – and the answer is: it depends where in the Cotswolds you want to go, and how you’re going to get there!

Royal Leamington Spa

Jephson Gardens in Royal Leamington Spa

Royal Leamington Spa, or “Leam” (pronounced “Lem”) to its friends, is a wonderful Regency town in south Warwickshire. It has great shops, parks, dining options and nightlife. With a vibrant student population and a thriving ex-pat community, it’s one of the most diverse towns in the Shakespeare’s England region. We love it!

If you’ve arrived in Leamington Spa and are wondering how to visit some of the other beautiful places on your doorstep, like the Cotswolds, then stick with us and we’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Ways to get to the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa

To really discover the Cotswolds independently, you're going to need your own wheels

For independent exploration of the Cotswolds, you’re going to need your own wheels. The Cotswolds is a vast rural area covering around 800 square miles, with over 150 small towns and villages to explore.

The north-eastern tip of the Cotswolds is closest to Leamington Spa. Within 25-30 minutes, you’ll find the lesser visited villages of Arlescote, Radway, Ratley and Edgehill. You’ll also find lovely Upton House in this area, which is well worth a visit, especially if you’re a National Trust member.

But to visit many of the best-loved villages of the Cotswolds, you’ll need to drive further afield. Broadway is around 50 minutes from Leamington, Bourton-on-the-Water is approximately 1 hour away, and Bibury around 1 hour 20 minutes away.

By public transport

You can get to the Cotswolds from Leamington by public transport, but prepare well

If you don’t have a car, or don’t want to drive, can you get to the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa by public transport? Yes – but be warned, it’s not straightforward!

Very few towns in the Cotswolds have a train station, so if you want to travel to the Cotswolds by train from Leamington Spa, you’ll need to go via Oxford. It’s around 40 minutes to an hour from Leamington Spa to Oxford, then another 20 minutes to the Cotswolds station of Charlbury, 35 minutes to Kingham, or 45 minutes to Moreton-in-Marsh.

If you choose one of these routes by train, consider how you’re going to get around after that. These are small towns that you can walk around quite quickly, so you could make all that effort just to turn around and go home again. There are a few bus services to other Cotswold villages, but you’ll need to study the timetables carefully – buses are infrequent and do not run late into the evening.

By guided tour

Get to the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa with local guided tour company Go Cotswolds

As a small, local, family run company based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Go Cotswolds has a solution for you! To explore the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa, then on Mondays through Saturdays you can take a train to Stratford-upon-Avon train station, or the X18 bus to Bridge Street in Stratford-upon-Avon.

It’s just a short 5-10 minute from the train station or bus stop to our pick-up point. This is the Shakespeare’s Birthplace Coach Terminal on Windsor Street. We will pick you up there at 9.00AM and take you on a beautiful guided tour of the Cotswolds !

You’ll spend the day with one of our friendly local guides , who will tell you all about the Cotswolds and take you to the best villages in the area. Some of these villages are inaccessible by public transport, so you wouldn’t be able to see them unless you have a car or want to hire an expensive taxi.

On Sundays, take a taxi to Stratford-upon-Avon

Trains and buses are (annoyingly) less frequent on Sundays. But you can take a taxi from Leamington Spa to Stratford-upon-Avon. Uber is widely available in Leamington, too.

Choose from our two fantastic tours for a day trip to the Cotswolds from Leamington to remember!

We have 3 tours of the Cotswolds to choose from - this picture is from one of our Cotswolds in a Day tours

Start with our Cotswolds in a Day tour to get an overview of the best spots in the Cotswolds. Then, get out of the minibus and off the beaten track with our Cotswolds Walks & Villages tour .

Ready to book your tour of the Cotswolds from Leamington Spa? Click here!

Prefer a private tour or need group transport? We offer private tours as well, but because we have 17-seater minibuses, they’re ideal for larger groups. For private tours, we can pick you up from Leamington Spa or wherever you are based! Check out our private tours and minibus hire options.

Here is how you can book a slot at one of Hampshire's recycling centres

Households will be limited to one trip a week

  • 22:49, 9 JUN 2020

book a tip trip leamington

More details have been released about a new booking system at recycling centres across Hampshire which has been introduced to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The new system is being brought in to limit the number of people travelling to the household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) and causing large queues.

The system goes live this Thursday (June 11) and will allow users to book a 30-minute slot at their local centre.

Cllr Rob Humby, deputy leader and executive member for economy, transport and environment at Hampshire County Council , said: “From next week, a new booking system will be up and running, and we’ll also be operating normal summer hours.

"The system offers more than 30,000 bookings each week, and sites will be open 9am-6pm every day. Therefore, I’m confident that from Monday onwards, with access only allowed by booking for a specific time, we’ll see an end to the lengthy and disruptive traffic queues outside HWRCs.

“We’ve had to set up this system in response to the severe traffic queues we’ve seen at some of the HWRCs since they reopened in May with new social distancing measures in place. The queues at some sites were causing significant problems for nearby businesses or to the safety of others on the roads.”

From Monday all recycling centres in Hampshire will revert to their normal summer opening hours of 9am to 6pm, seven days a week.

Bookings on the new system must be made 48 hours in advance. Those booking will need to provide their name, car registration and email address.

Bookings can be made online here or over the phone on 023 8017 9949.

Households are limited to one booking per week.

Welcome to Hampshire Live, a brand new, digital-only news service for this amazing part of the world. We will bring you fast-moving and in-depth news seven days a week direct to your mobile phone, tablet or laptop, across Hampshire from Winchester to Farnborough and Southampton to Portsmouth.

But we're more than just news. We'll cover what people are talking about every day and celebrate the very best that this incredible part of the world has to offer. But, crucially, we want to hear from you. What are the issues you want to see covered? Please let us know.

What is the best day to book flights?

Fares can change as many as 49 times between the first published price and the departure date!

flight booking infographic

  • Jennifer Graham Kizer
  • April 16, 2024

Let’s just say it: Buying airline tickets can be maddening. The same seat on the same flight often costs a different price on Tuesday than it does on Wednesday. Both prices will change depending on the month or season. And if you add in a few other factors (like how many stops and what class you’re flying), the prices change yet again.

Most frustrating of all? The cost varies based on when you buy the ticket. It’s not unusual for fares to seesaw up and down from the moment a price is first published until your departure date, changing as many as 49 times . How can you know which day the airline will offer the lowest price?

You can’t know for sure. But you can keep up with the latest airfare studies — in which travel experts crunch the numbers from past flights, looking for trends and patterns. Read on for some tips on when to purchase tickets this year.

Best day to book domestic flights

About 10 years ago, when online flight booking was still new, airlines would post their latest fares and special deals at the end of the day on Tuesday. In many cases, airlines would match one another’s discount fares. Travel experts passed this information on to consumers, and people came to think of late Tuesday and early Wednesday as the best times to buy tickets.

These days, airlines update their fares all the time, and price matching is less prevalent. So the traditional advice to purchase tickets midweek no longer applies .

Research from Expedia shows that nowadays, Sunday is the best day to book a flight, while fares are most expensive on Friday. The data suggests that if you book on Sunday instead of Friday, you can save around 5% on an economy class ticket and 7% on a business class ticket.

Best day to book international flights

Sunday is also the best day to book international flights. If you choose to buy tickets on Sunday instead of Friday, you can save around 5% on an economy class ticket and 24% for a business class ticket. While the amount of savings has varied, Expedia found that Sunday has been the low price winner for the last three years running .

Cheapest days to fly domestically

In a study by CheapAir.com , travel experts found that Wednesday is the least expensive day to fly domestically, and Sunday is the most expensive. Choosing Wednesday to travel will save you an average of $102 versus traveling on Sunday. The next cheapest option is Tuesday, which will save you an average of $99 versus traveling on Sunday.

Cheapest days to fly internationally

If you’re flying overseas, aim to travel mid-week. “For international trips, depart on a Thursday to save as much as 6%, or $60, per round trip ticket,” Hayley Berg, lead economist for travel deals app Hopper, told “Reader’s Digest. ”

Meanwhile, CheapAir.com found that the best days to travel internationally were Tuesday or Wednesday , depending on the continent.

Best months to fly

Lots of people take vacations in the summer, which drives the prices up in May, June and July. And the fall and winter holidays lead to higher prices in November and December. So, if you have a bit of flexibility in your travel dates, you can save money by flying in January, February, September or October.

Berg told “Reader’s Digest” that air passengers can get a discount of over $100 off domestic airfare by traveling during less popular months.

Best time of day to fly

Because fewer people want to take early morning flights, they tend to be a bit cheaper. According to Trip.com , if you opt for a flight that leaves before 9 a.m., the price could be as much as 15% less expensive. You’ll also get a cleaner, possibly less-crowded plane.

How far in advance to book flights

Buying your airline tickets as early as possible doesn’t mean you’ll get the best deal. “Booking more than six months ahead can cost you, since airlines set their initial prices conservatively,” Hopper’s Chief Data Scientist Patrick Surry told Travel & Leisure . But if you wait too long, you might end up paying an inflated price.

According to CheapAir.com, the best day to buy a plane ticket this year is 42 days before your departure. The prime booking window to buy a cheap flight is 74 to 21 days in advance. Outside of that window, the rates will probably be higher. But seasonal changes and holidays can alter the pricing, and where you’re flying comes into play, too.

To be better informed about your specific pricing window, you can use CheapAir’s tool to find the best time to buy flights, based on data compiled from over 8,000 markets and over 1.3 billion airfares. You can plug in departure and arrival cities, hit “Get Info,” and this tool will tell you the prime booking window for your flight. For example, if you’re flying from Atlanta to San Diego this year, CheapAir.com suggests you book between 29 and 72 days in advance.

Buying plane tickets would be a lot less stressful if the prices didn’t change so frequently. But the task is easier when you have these basic tips in your back pocket!

Solar eclipse as sun sets behind airplane at airport

You could win a trip to see the solar eclipse from an airplane

Want to see the next total solar eclipse in 2026? An expert recommends booking travel now.

  • 2026 will be Europe's first total solar eclipse in 27 years.
  • Travelers worldwide will likely head to Spain, Iceland, and Greenland for the event.
  • A hotel expert encouraged travelers to start planning and booking their trips now.

Insider Today

It'll be two decades before the next total solar eclipse hits the US .

Another option: hop on a plane to Europe and turn the 2026 total solar eclipse into a viewing vacation.

Eclipse cartographer Michael Zeiler at GreatAmericanEclipse.com told Space.com that up to 3.7 million people likely traveled for the solar eclipse on Monday.

HotelPlanner's chief communication officer, Philip Ballard, told Business Insider that the eclipse was a major revenue generator for many cities. For places like Austin, Texas, and Rochester, New York, it could have created $1 billion in revenue, Vox reported.

"I would say the total solar eclipse has become a global phenomenon," Ballard said.

Ballard added that the next solar eclipse , which will pass through Iceland, Greenland, and Spain on August 12, 2026, could result in similar tourism and revenue influxes.

And if travelers are considering a trip to Europe for the solar eclipse, Ballard recommends planning your trip now.

Determine your eclipse viewing destination

According to Space.com , 2026 will be Europe's first total solar eclipse in 27 years. Its path will go through Greenland, parts of western Iceland, and northern Spain.

Choosing where to watch the eclipse will be a tough and important decision for travelers.

Iceland and Greenland have some positives. These regions will experience longer totality times, so viewers can watch the eclipse longer. Plus, the sun will be higher in the sky, so finding a spot to watch the eclipse will be less challenging, Space.com reported.

The downside is that these regions are more likely to be cloudy, according to the outlet.

Related stories

While parts of Spain are likely to offer clearer skies, the eclipse's timing will be shorter and closer to the horizon, which means travelers will need to plan and track down a viewing location with unobstructed views of the western horizon, Space.com reported.

Regardless of the destination, according to the outlet, one bonus is that the strongest meteor shower in the Northern Hemisphere will happen the following night, so travelers can pack two events into one trip.

Book flights and hotels far in advance

Ballard encouraged people to book their hotels in their destination of choice as far in advance as possible.

"You should start looking now and booking hotels now because those cities in the path are already going to be at peak season," Ballard said.

Ballard said it's similar to when a Super Bowl city is determined or a Taylor Swift tour date is announced — you immediately see spikes in bookings. He predicts hotel occupancy rates will hit near-record highs, and room prices may double around the solar eclipse date.

Ballard's general rule of thumb is to book international travel at least three months in advance, but since this is such an anticipated event, booking earlier is smart. His advice is to start discussing plans with friends and family. If you decide on a destination, book a refundable room to keep your options open if plans change.

Regarding purchasing a plane ticket, a study from Expedia states that international travel's sweet spot is at least six months in advance.

According to Expedia, travelers who book six months in advance save an average of 10% more than travelers booking within two months or less.

Skip the hassle of planning altogether and book a solar eclipse tour

Another option is to let a tour operator do the work for you. A handful of tour companies have seen the increased interest in the solar eclipse and launched tours designed around the event.

These tours will have predetermined locations to view the eclipse, hotel blocks reserved, and itineraries highlighting both the region and the eclipse.

However, these can sell out quickly. For example, Space and Telescope created an 11-day tour of Spain around viewing the 2026 solar eclipse. The tour has already sold out as of Wednesday, and the waitlist is full.

Other operators, such as Wilderness Travel and Eclipse Traveler, have similar itineraries for the total eclipse in 2026.
