The whole area including the outskirts of Phnom Penh is about 376 square kilometres big. There are currently 2,009,264 people living in Phnom Penh. Phnom Penh was also previously known as Krong Chaktomuk (Chaturmukha) meaning “City of Four Faces”.

The province is located in northwest Cambodia. It is the major tourist hub in Cambodia, as it is the closest city to the world famous temples of Angkor (the Angkor temple complex is north of the city). The provincial capital is also called Siem Reap and is located in the South of the province on the shores of the Tonle Sap Lake, the greatest sweet water reserve in whole Southeast Asia. At the turn of the millennium Siem Reap was a Cambodian provincial town with few facilities, minor surfaced roads and little in the way of nightlife.

Angkor Thom, Angkor Wat

Today, begin your exploration of the remains of Khmer Empire that once ruled much of Southeast Asia. Angkor served as the seat of the empire.

In the morning, tour the ancient capital city of Angkor Thom. First on the agenda is Ta Prohm. Huge silk-cotton trees and strangler figs grow over, around, and through the ancient stone blocks. The temple would make you feel as if you are in an adventure movie set.

Then, visit Banteay Kdei, a kind of smaller version of Ta Prohm. Continue to Victory Gate, Terrace of the Leper King, Royal Palace, Baphuon Temple and Bayon Temple. Bayon sets itself apart with its 200 smiling faces, sure to make you feel welcomed. With winding tunnels, chambers, and climbs, Bayon offers many exciting moments to keep your camera busy.

In the afternoon, head to visit Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. Angkor Wat possesses some of the longest and most intricate stone carvings. Spend the afternoon fully exploring the passages, levels, and chambers that once housed many treasures of the flourishing kingdom.

 alt=

Koh Ker Temples, Prasat Beng Mealea

Today, drive to the northern area of Siem Reap to visit the group of Koh Ker temples. Koh Ker was the capital of the Angkorian Empire from 928 to 944 CE. The main attractions you can expect here include Prasat Thom, a seven-tiered pyramid structure, Prasat Krahom, Prasat Bram, etc.

In the afternoon, visit Prasat Beng Mealea built in the 12th century. Although invaded by jungle, you can see the traces of Khmer Empire.

 alt=

Preah Vihear Temple

Today’s trip will take you to the Cambodia-Thai border to visit Preah Vihear Temple, an outstanding masterpiece of Khmer architecture, featured with four courtyards, each containing five entrance pavilions. After that, drive back to Siem Reap.

 alt=

Banteay Srei, Tonle Sap Lake, Kompong Phluk

In the morning, head towards the deep jungle to visit Banteay Srei. The temple is carved from red sandstone, a medium that lends itself to elaborate wall carvings, which are well preserved to this day.

After lunch, take a half day excursion to the biggest Southeast Asia’s largest fresh water lake - Tonle Sap Lake. You’ll take a boat trip to enjoy the beautiful lake views and mangrove forests. Then, tour Kompong Phluk, the largest village on the lake, to discover the fascinating daily lifestyle of the local people who live on the water.

The country’s capital Phnom Penh envelops visitors in its bustling city life, the hip cafes, quality restaurants, riverside boulevards, art galleries and a lively nightlife while there is also a shimmering coastline with crystal white beaches that tempts every sun sloth. The rurally rich Battambang tempts with authentic countryside life, far from the crowds of Angkor. The coastal towns of Kep and Sihanoukville, in addition to their charming French colonial remnants, are now home to some of the most acclaimed resorts. Spend some extra time travelling through Cambodia’s natural wonders like Tonle Sap Lake and jade-hued Yeak Lom Crater Lake, experiencing the growing gastronomy scene, the lush jungles, the harrowing history at the Killing Fields and meeting the Khmer people which truly will be an unforgettable experience. Explore Cambodia Visit Cambodia and experience a slice of fascinating history, the country's remarkable natural beauty, witness the grandeur of ancient Angkor Wat, meet the incredibly friendly Khmer people, surrender to the beauty of colonial townscapes and unspoilt beaches and look forward to a classic Cambodian adventure. Steadily recovering from the atrocities that downpoured on the country, Cambodia is becoming an emerging tourism destination that manages to charm all who come. Opt for a Cambodia tour and you will be amazed by all the surprises it uncovers for you.   Pick one of our Cambodia Tour Packages that tell you about the different facets of this country and also the bucket list experiences that are well worth exploring.   1. Siem Reap: a peep into glorious past and dynamic present The charming and lively town of Siem Reap is one of those places in the country that caters to every taste. This region was once the site of successive capitals of the Khmer Empire which is now the gateway to grand ruins, collectively known as the Angkor Archaeological Park including the famous Angkor Wat Temple surrounded within a complex of many other attractions. These majestic temples including the jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm and Bayon Temple still stand intact and are considered the topmost amongst the many Cambodian wonders. Beyond these wondrous creations, lies another Siem Reap that has been attracting travellers to stay longer and explore its other facets. The historic town of Siem Reap has reinvented itself as the epicentre of contemporary Cambodia, boasting everything from hip hotels and cafes to pub streets and lively nightlife, floating villages, burgeoning markets, local tours for both the foodies and adventurers and an artistic cultural scene that give you enough reasons to extend your stay. A few days spent in this Cambodian city will show how both the worlds- past and present, coincide in Siem Reap while giving you quality leisure time to spend and explore at your own pace.   The best way to know more about its worth visiting gems is through Dook’s dedicated and personalised Cambodia Tour Packages , extensively covering this historic Cambodian marvel.   2. Phnom Penh: the hip Cambodian capital This captivating and vibrant city which is also the commercial and cultural capital of Cambodia has an undeniable charm with its pavements teeming with street food stalls and colourful markets. Unlike any other South Asian capital, it hasn’t yet been weighed down under the towering skyscrapers but the radiant spires of the Royal Palace, its luscious location on the banks of Mekong, alluring cafe culture and bustling food scene have helped it gain a position among the hip capitals of the region. Besides its famous Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, the National Museum, the most visited Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, the Choeng Ek Killing Fields and Wat Phnom, there are several market places selling carvings, paintings, silk, silver, gems and even antiques and also some of an excellent Khmer arts experiences that you can relish. It is also considered as the gateway to Angkor Wat and the beaches of the southern coast and the ethnic minorities of the North-eastern provinces. Phnom Penh Tour experiences can be included in our bespoke Cambodia Tour Packages . Have a look at a sample itinerary here!

cambodia tour from kolkata

3. Battambang: the worthwhile addition to your travel itinerary Unlike the other hip cities that have all the hustle and bustle, boozy pub crawls and white sand beaches, Battambang is different. It has ancient temples, French era colonial villas, unspoiled local culture to brag about and arguably the best Cambodian food captivating all your senses. Despite being Cambodia's second-largest city and relatively authentic, Battambang still is an underrated gem of the country but is truly worth exploring! Life in Battambang is slow and laid back and that’s what adds to the true adventure of exploring this riverside town in peace. Underneath its sleepy facade is a bubble of creativity that is flaunted by the lines of boutique hotels, quirky cafés and restaurants, while the lush countryside stands ideal for excursions. Pack a backpack for a day trip to Battambang and set off to discover the delight of street food stands, green rice fields, some ancient temples that are a must-see, close by villages while ending your day with an artisan latte at one of the many modish cafes on the streets. Before leaving Battambang, do not forget to jump on the bamboo train which is a flat, homemade bamboo platform placed on rail wheels and an experience cherished nowhere.   4. Sihanoukville: for the beach bums Beautiful surroundings adorned by the best beaches in Cambodia, fresh ocean breeze and tropical climate - this is how Sihanoukville , the coastal resort town of Cambodia is defined. Even though the sheer variety of undeveloped coastline, with around 10 white sand beaches make it a top beach destination yet to be explored extensively, many corners of the town being dominated by casinos and commercial centres have already flooded it with the crowds over the years. Yet, it remains the first choice for those who flock here to rest up between travels and party through the night. The Serendipity Beach area is a hub for backpackers while the relaxed Otres Beach away from the hustle south of town is where cheap bungalow joints and bohemian- guesthouses rest. Freshly caught seafood is in plentiful supply here and best enjoyed at one of the many popular Cambodian barbecue grills, where crab and squid take pride of place on the menu. Sihanoukville, in a nutshell, is for those who hope for lazy days of sunbathing and whirlwind nights of bar-hopping during their Cambodia trip . 5. Kep: the Saint Tropez of Southeast Asia   Not too long ago during the French colonisation of Cambodia, Kep was a dreamy coastal gem of Cambodia likened to the beauty of St. Tropez. It’s evident in the golden sandy beaches which are rarely ever crowded. However, there was a sharp decline in tourism numbers during the Khmer Rouge era – although things today are showing the positive signs yet again with a slow trickle of tourists, bringing good news for those who want to spend a less-crowded holiday in Kep.     Known for its crab farming and pepper plantations, Kep has always been on the top list of seafood lovers. At the crab market, you will see the women paddle into the shallow waters to check their bamboo baskets for hauls, buckets of crabs are flung from seller to buyer and wooden stalls sell an array of freshly caught seafood. You can even enjoy eating fresh-off-the-boat crab cooked for you on the pier. Apart from its specialities, there are other attractions too, like the Koh Tonsay Island just 20 minutes off the shore, the remote Rabbit Island, Key National Park and exotic limestone caves near Kompong Trach.   6. Ratanakiri: secluded yet adventurous Venture into this remote inland Cambodia and you will be able to experience the country’s adventurous side, the cultural thrush and the incomparable natural beauty, all at once. Rarely visited by visitors yet, the remote region of Ratanakiri sits atop the northeast plateau and is a ‘lost paradise’ of Cambodia. Here, the striking mountains and hills make for amazing trekking adventures and wildlife encounters while the characteristic red earth lines roads, as well as beautiful landscapes of lakes, waterfalls and the ethnic minorities living in hand-built stilt wooden houses, make it a refreshingly off-beat destination. Where else would you get the opportunity to get an insight into the lives and culture of these minority groups as well as enjoy bathing beneath waterfalls, trekking through the national parks and heading out on camping safaris spotting unique wildlife along the way, adventure-packed all in one?

Top Bucket List Experiences in Cambodia 1. No Cambodia tour is complete without a trip to Angkor Wat In the past several decades, Angkor Wat , a 163-hectare ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu has become one of the most prominent highlights, at par with other wonders of the world, even earning a centre stage on the Cambodian national flag. Vast, extraordinary and majestic are three appropriate words to describe the splendour of this Angkor Wat that needs not just a descriptive paragraph but an entire guide to be written about its splendid history and surroundings. Take a 20 minutes tuk-tuk ride from the city centre early in the morning to arrive here at the time of sunrise because it’s nothing less than magical! Apart from the iconic temple of Angkor Wat, there are Angkor Thom and its Bayon Temple with countless sculptural decorations, Elephant Terrace which take the attention too and Ta Prohm as well which is best known for its spectacular sights of trees intertwining with the stonework, much as it was when discovered from the jungle. Given its gigantic size and an array of attractions, you should be prepared to spend at least two days appreciating the real beauty of Angkor Wat. Our Cambodia Tour Packages cover the temple roaming experience extensively while they also swing your way to the other major sites in Cambodia. 2. Ride the Bamboo Train One thing you should know about the Khmer people is that they are super creative. And it is no surprise when you see how they acquired the abandoned rail tracks and created their transport system which today is counted amongst the ‘must-do’ experiences. The locals created small boat-sized bamboo trains that look like a flat platform, fitting in a small group. These tiny, adventurous trains are run manually with a lever and are an easy way to transfer goods and people to the other end.   3. Look back into the glorious history at Prasat Preah Vihear Sitting on the edge of a plateau that dominates the plain of Cambodia and living among the clouds, the mountain temple of Preah Vihear is dedicated to Shiva and has been an important place of pilgrimage for millennia. This marvellous temple which is also a recognised UNESCO World Heritage site is a true example of some of the greatest ancient arts and architectural feats in Cambodia throwing light on the triumph of hundreds of years of Khmer history. The temple’s layout has four levels with four courtyards, each containing five Gopuras (entrance pavilions) with exceptional quality of its carved stone ornamentation adapted to the natural environment. The remote location and the site being well-preserved make it an ideal place for exploring and bringing out the history lover in you.               4. Visit the circular Yeak Laom Lake   Believed to be created 4,000 years ago due to a volcanic eruption, The Yeak Laom Lake (volcanic crater) is much more beautiful than what you see in the pictures. This magnificent lake in Ratanakiri was once surrounded by thick forest on all sides, but today only thin layers remain yet with a retained charm. The crystal clear waters stand in stark contrast with the lush green mountains in the backdrop. A combination of trails, exotic birds and butterflies are common sights here. Five villages are located around the region that consider the lake sacred but the tourists can still take a dip in the water. Handicraft stores selling souvenirs made by the hill tribes living nearby can also be found at the entrance and ethnic costumes can be hired for photoshoots.   5. See the spectacular Kompong Floating Village   Undeniably, Cambodia is one of those destinations swarming with tourists for quite a few decades now but there is an offbeat side to it that only a few know of. Taking you a little off the touristy circuit, Kompong Phluk, a floating village is one such experience that is worth seeing, especially in December and January. An interesting fact about Kompong Phluk is that it is not floating; it is built over stilts made on the bed of Tonle Sap Lake. Regular boat tours of the village will let you get a close glimpse into the life of locals that is strikingly different from the daily grind in the cities. Even if no luxury resorts are provisioning nearby, the bright side of life here in the village, locals hopping up and down their hand-hewn houses and fishing for the living, will offer an authentically realistic picture of life in Cambodian villages and an experience next to none! 6. Marvel the French architecture at Kampot A city located in the southwest of Cambodia, Kampot is a prominent historical town touching shoulders along the Gulf of Thailand. Unlike other regional capitals of Cambodia, Kampot has exceptional colonial French architecture, reflected in many buildings in the city. To get the true essence of the influence, take a trip up to the Bokor Hill Station atop Bokor Mountain and see its French colonial ruins, as well as the newly built casino and hotel. What makes the town’s crumbling architecture even more beautiful are the style shop houses with fading blue and green wooden shutters and yellow paint. Passing by quiet streets where pink bougainvillaea blossom on trees is common and a lovely feeling in itself. Exciting Activities to Indulge on your Cambodia Tour Cambodia is a desirable holiday destination where tourists witness the glorious temples, serene beaches, timeless ruins, and culture & tradition at its best. However, there is so much that Cambodia has to offer. It means you can experience an incredible range of exciting activities for a spirit-jolted adventure. Time to Visit Cambodia

It is always a good idea to learn more about the climate and weather of a destination beforehand to make the most out of the trip.  Cambodia has two major seasons across the year. These are the Monsoon season and the Dry season .  It is in the dry season when most tourists come to visit this country, and there is a fairly reasonable reason behind the same. During the dry season, the country sees less amount of rainfall. It typically lasts from November to April. This allows the tourists to enjoy the clear sky on the southern coasts. From February to April , the temperatures in Cambodia continue to rise as much as 40 degrees Celsius. Even in May and June, the temperature continues to be high. The humidity is also extreme during these times. This eventually results in rainfall. As soon as the monsoon season begins, Cambodia receives high rainfall. This is a result of high humidity. While it is extremely helpful for local farmers in order to grow costs, the rain often causes problems in remote areas. Due to this, it can be tough to travel in such regions. However, not all areas are impacted by it. Thus, we can also enjoy the greenery and scenic beauty. Flora and fauna during this season are at their peak. Hence, this can be a good time for those who cannot wait for long hours of wildlife exploration.

Even though Cambodia has no official winter season, the months between December and February are quite cooler. This is why many tourists also prefer this time frame. Most of the time, January is the coldest month but even then, the temperatures are around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. This is perhaps the best time to visit Cambodia  and explore places like Phnom Penh, Temples of Angkor, Battambang, and Siem Reap. As there is comparatively less humidity, it becomes easier to visit a variety of temples and markets. However, this is why Cambodia witnesses more tourists during this time. Thus, we will have a better time if we are prepared for crowds.

Many experts consider October a good time to visit Cambodia . This is because, at this particular time, the rainy season has come to an end. Moreover, the humidity is also quite low. Multiple temples across the country are also quiet in comparison to other months. Also, the tourists can find incredible discounts and offers to push down their expenses further. Lastly, this is a great time to visit the famous Tonle Sap Lake. We should keep all these points into consideration and choose to visit Cambodia during a time that we believe will be suitable for us.

While in Cambodia, the major airports include Phnom Penh International Airport and Siem Reap International Airport.  Usually, there is a single stop on the journey from India to Cambodia. The typical flight duration is around 6 hours. We can choose from a variety of airlines including Singapore Airlines, Air Asia Philippines, Malaysian Airlines, and Thai Airways. It is always better to book the tickets in advance, especially in October and November, to save a considerable amount on flights. By Train :  There are no direct trains from India to Cambodia. Thus, to travel by train, we will have to book a flight to Bangkok and then take a train and reach Cambodia. This is an ideal option for those looking to explore various regions in SouthEast Asia. Hence, taking a train can be time-saving when travelling between different Southeast Asian countries. This will also allow us to gain many new experiences and learn about the culture and traditions of different Southeast Asian nations.

By Road : The journey from India to Cambodia by road can be quite adventurous. However, we must keep in mind that this will not be simple and easy. We will have to travel through numerous countries to reach the final destination, which can be quite expensive and more time-consuming. We will also need a number of documents when entering and leaving each country, such as passport, international driving permit, credit card and possible itinerary. Nevertheless, when it comes to travelling within Cambodia, it is best to rely on buses. This is because buses are very affordable and easily available in the country. When travelling in some of the remote areas, we can find plenty of tuk-tuks and many other modes of transportation. So, if we want to reach Cambodia in a short span with great ease, then the airlines are the best option. On the other hand, if we want to explore South East Asian regions as well, then we can choose to take an affordable flight to Bangkok and cover the rest of the journey by train.

Throughout the pandemic, millions of people moved from one place to the other. Maybe, after more than two years of the pandemic, we are also wondering if it would be safe to travel abroad.

Main Destinations of Cambodia

Cambodia's rich history and culture attracts millions of tourists from different parts of the world. Yet it is not the only thing that drives people to this Southeast Asian country. Its beautiful beaches and natural beauty are other major factors. Some of the most popular tourist destinations in Cambodia  are:

Angkor Wat (Angkor Archaeological Park)

Koh kong conservation corridor, sambor prei kuk.

Angkor Archaeological Park is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The temples of the Angkorian era are incredible in size. Angkor Wat is among the world’s must-see ancient sites. Built between 802 and 1432, Angkor Archaeological Park was the largest city in the world during the mediaeval age. Today, it is the largest religious building in the world. Built by King Suryavarman II, this ancient temple can be visited between 5 am to 6 pm.

Located in Cambodia’s Cardamom Mountains, the Koh Kong Conservation Corridor is the ideal place for boat tours and hiking. Encompassed with dense jungles, astounding waterfalls, and a beautiful river, Koh Kong Conservation Corridor has some eco-friendly places to stay. It also has options for homestay and guesthouse accommodation.

Phnom Penh is not only the capital of Cambodia but also its most populated city. Today, Phnom Penh has become one of the most dynamic regions of the world but it was deserted during the Khmer Rouge madness. The city has numerous historical sites that showcase the history of the country. Along with incredible architecture, it has many cafés and restaurants as well. Phnom Penh has numerous tourist attractions including the Royal Palace of Cambodia, National Museum of Cambodia, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and Wat Phnom. The city also has a variety of transportation options including trains, buses, and flights.

To spend some peaceful time in the country then Kampot is one of the regions that will provide us with much-needed relaxation time. The town is quite laid-back and has shop-house-designed infrastructure. Many tourists spend a long time in this region because of its beautiful surroundings and peaceful life. Nevertheless, Kampot also has many destinations that are worth visiting. These include Phnom Bokor National Park, Long Set Beach, and Phnom Chhnork Cave Temple.

Sambor Prei Kuk is a temple site that was established in the early seventh century. From an archaeological point of view, this pre-Angkorian temple is quite significant as it is Cambodia’s one of the oldest buildings. Some of the vital sites inside Sambor Prei Kuk include Prasat Yeay Pea, Prasat Tao, and Prasat Sambor.

Along with numerous temples, Cambodia offers its tourists a variety of adventure sports as well. Ratanakiri is one such natural region where tourists can try out a variety of sports. We can visit several villages by surpassing the long red-dirt roads that spread over Ratanakiri. This region is heaven for those who are interested in trekking. It has Veun Sai-Siem Pang Conservation Area as well as the Virachey National Park, which is home to many animals, including bears, tigers and elephants.

Best Hill Stations/ Best Beaches

Cambodia has numerous beaches and islands across the country. The scenic beauty of these beaches allows the tourists to have a peaceful and relaxing time. Some of the most popular beaches in Cambodia include-

Saracen Bay, Koh Rong Samloem

M'pai bai, koh rong samloem, otres beach.

Ream Beach is about half an hour away from Sihanoukville city. It is a part of the Ream National Park. This is another secluded beach where we can see a few fishermen and cafes that are run by families. There is also a mangrove wetland area near the beach. Ream Beach is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of popular beaches and spend some days surrounded by nature.

Koh Rong Samloem is one of the sister islands on Sihanoukville, along with Koh Rong. Saracen Bay once used to be a sleepy fish area but now it has become one of the best tourist islands. This region is very popular among couples and younger visitors. The island has a laid-back vibe that will allow us to forget all our worries and enjoy nature.

Located on the northern side of Koh Rong Samloem, M'Pai Bai is not as crowded as Saracen Bay. Thus, it is the perfect place for those who want to escape the crowds and spend quality time in a peaceful environment. M'Pai Bai is deserted for the most part and we can find some local fishermen nearby. This area has some hostels and guest houses. We can go on a hike to explore two nearby waterfalls as well.

Even though Otres Beach is a part of the Sihanoukville area, it is not as crowded as other regions. This is because it is far from the major beach areas. Hence, we can experience the local vibe of the area. The water around Otres Beach is clearer than many other beaches. Moreover, it is surrounded by palm trees which give the place a spectacular look. Even though Cambodia is famous for its beaches, it also has a hill station. Bokor hill station is a bunch of French buildings built in the 1920s as a temperate mountain spot for colonial residents. Even though Bokor hill station was abandoned for a long time, it is now easily accessible because of recent developments. The region also has a waterfall that is usually dry in the high season but regains full flow during monsoon. Bokor Hill Station is highly popular among tourists because of its astounding views and great weather.

Places to Visit in Combodia

Cambodia has numerous temples as well as the largest religious building in the world. But there is a lot more to this country than the beaches and monuments. Choosing the right Cambodia Tour Packages will ensure that we get to explore all the must-visit places in the region and gain experiences that will be relished for a lifetime.

Prasat Preah Vihear

Tonlé sap lake.

The small town of Sen Monorom is the major tourist attraction in the Mondulkiri region. This place is ideal for those who are more inclined toward making their trip to Cambodia full of adventure. In the Mondulkiri province, there are many options for tourists to enjoy themselves, including trail-bike tours, exploring wildlife, and the popular Elephant Valley Project. Under the Elephant Valley Project, travellers can walk with the elephants of the sanctuary. It is important to keep in mind that riding the elephant is not allowed.

Tourists usually consider Siem Reap a significant part of Cambodia’s must-visit places because Angkor Archaeological Park is situated in it. However, the town has a lot more to offer. This is one of the major centres of the region. Thus, we can find a variety of tours ranging from cycling tours to cookery tours as well. We can also find numerous traditional crafts around the area. In the evening, Phare the Cambodian Circus is also organised.

While Angkor Wat may be extremely popular among tourists, we cannot miss the Prasat Preah Vihear location. Prasat Preah Vihear is an incredible temple constructed to honour Lord Shiva. It is at the top of the Dangrek Mountains and offers a break-taking view of Cambodian floodplains. It is quite close to the border of Thailand. Both nations have claimed the temple as their own. This UNESCO World Heritage Sight is a must-visit for tourists in Cambodia.

Battambang is a city in Cambodia that is perfect for those who want to spend some time away from the hustle-bustle of Phnom Penh. As compared to the capital, Battambang has a much more relaxed vibe. The northwest of Battambang is surrounded by small villages and rice fields. The city is also rich in its history as historical temples like Wat Ek Phnom, Phnom Sampeau, and Phnom Banan are quite nearby to the region. Due to all this, Battambang has become a significantly famous spot among travellers.

Tonlé Sap Lake is Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake. It is considered the most significant waterway for Cambodia. This lake is also home to 170 floating villages whose livelihood depends on it. Tonlé Sap Lake is also a vital source of food for irrigation in Cambodia. Be it shops, schools, or houses; everything is made by sticking together bamboo and barrels. Kompong Luong and Chong Kneas are some of the popular villages around it.

Kratie is the ideal place to experience the beauty of Mekong. Kratie has become popular over the years because of the dolphin-watching tours. Irrawaddy dolphins have been endangered in the Mekong. Many steps have been taken to ensure that they are protected. Tourism has played a major role as an alternative to fishing in the region.

Famous food in Combodia

Even though Cambodian cuisine has started to become popular in other parts of the world, the best way to experience the majority of Cambodian dishes is to visit the country. Thus, while planning the Cambodia trip, make sure to try out all the Cambodian cuisines. Some of the most popular dishes in the country include:

Samlor korkor

Nom banh chok/khmer noodles, kha trei svay kchai - caramelised fish with green mango.

Amok is undoubtedly one of the most popular dishes in Cambodia. Similar dishes to it can also be found in neighbouringf countries. The addition of Slok Ngor separates the taste of the Cambodian version from the rest of the world. The curry of the dish is made from kroeung and coconut milk. Initially, Amok was prepared only with snails or fish. However, over the years, chicken is also added to the dish. There are even some vegetarian versions of the dish as well.

Even though Amok is often considered the national dish of Cambodia, Samlor korkor is also extremely popular in the region as well. Samlor korkor has been a popular dish in Cambodia for hundreds of years. The great part is that it can be found even today across the country in different restaurants as well as local stalls. The soup is quite adaptable and can be varied as per the season. Even though any sort of meat can be added, pork belly and catfish are commonly used.

Nom banh chok is another Cambodian dish that is extremely popular in other parts of the world. At times, it is called Khmer Noodles in English. Nom banh chok is majorly consumed as breakfast. Thus, tourists usually find women who carry baskets that contain this dish. It is prepared with noodles and many other ingredients including fingerroot ginger, garlic, and turmeric. Quite often banana flowers, cucumbers, beans, edible leaves and flowers are out on top of the dish.

Almost everyone has seen fishes that are quite active even when they are not underwater. These fishes are frequently seen jumping from baskets, trying to escape. Well, it is none other than the striped snakehead fish, also known as Trei roh. It can walk on land. That’s why it can move even when put out of water. It is the key ingredient of this dish. Initially, the steaks are kept in a pot and then caramelised with black pepper, fish sauce, garlic, tomatoes, and palm sugar. The dish is served with Asian basil and green mango on top.

Things to do in Cambodia

From visiting numerous temples to chilling on beaches, Cambodia offers its tourists plenty of fun activities. Here is a list of things to do on a Cambodia trip :

Watching Apsara Dance Show

Explore different cambodian cuisines, witness the phare cambodian circus, visit the tuol sleng genocide museum, visit phnom penh palace.

One of the best ways to explore Cambodian culture is to watch the dance show of Apsaras in the Siem Reap region. Apsaras have always been a huge part of Hindu mythology. They used to dance in Lord Indra’s kingdom in heaven. This depicts that the Hindu culture is still deeply rooted in the Cambodian culture. Thus, watching this show will bring us even closer to the culture of Cambodia. The dance show of Apsaras is so deep-rooted in Cambodian culture that it is even drawn on the walls of Angkor Wat.

No trip is ever complete without exploring the different delicacies that the country has to offer. Thus, on our Cambodia trip, try a variety of dishes. Since the majority of these dishes are not easily available outside Cambodia, it makes much more sense to enjoy them as long as we are there. Most of the dishes in the region are non-vegetarian. Moreover, rice and noodles are commonly used in most cuisines.

Art is a major part of Cambodian culture. Hence, to truly understand the essence of Cambodian culture, we must watch the Phare Cambodian Circus. The circus showcases the rich history of the country. Moreover, the circus has earned a name for itself globally.  Throughout the circus, we will witness performances including theatre, dancing, and singing. These acts showcase the numerous stories of the country. Phare Cambodian Circus is so famous that it has become a national act. Furthermore, numerous training centres have also opened in various parts of the country to train those interested in performing in the circus. The time of Phare Cambodian Circus is from 8 am to 8 pm.

When people think that Cambodia has a rich history, their mind will likely go in the direction that everything about its past has been glorious and peaceful. However, it is not the case. Moreover, it is equally important to showcase as well as analyse the other side as well. This is where the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum plays a significant role. It is a remnant of the atrocities conducted in the Khmer regime. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum has been made in the memory of genocide initiated by Khmer rulers. It showcases the terrifying interiors and utilises the painful past to lead to a peaceful tomorrow. A trip to this museum is something that each tourist must do whenever they visit Cambodia. The museum is located in Phnom Penh and the timings are between 8 am and 5 pm.

The Royal Palace of Cambodia is something that tourists should aim to visit when choosing the Cambodia tour package. It is home to the royal family. The gigantic palace has many paintings that showcase the history of the country. Moreover, the architecture is also astounding. The timings are from 8 am to 5 pm.

There is much more to Cambodia than amazing beaches and historical monuments. Here are some unpopular facts about Cambodia-  Cambodia is the only country with a building on its flag Cambodia is unique from other parts of the world in a variety of ways. The majority of flags around the globe usually either have similar colours & different designs or the same designs & different colours. None of more than 200 countries have a monument on their flag. Yet, Cambodia added Angkor Wat to its flag, making it the only flag with a building. Angkor Wat is the largest religious building in the world. This makes the Cambodian flag quite distinctive.

Funerals are a costly affair in the country

It can be surprising to find out that funerals in Cambodia have an average cost of USD 9000. Moreover, they go on for 49 days. Many people usually put together the money they have accumulated over time to ensure the funeral cost is covered. Some even have to sell their possessions to do so. All this is done because funerals hold immense importance in Cambodian culture.

The average age in Cambodia is less than 15

Today, many countries have a high median age. However, Cambodia is running in the opposite direction. We might be astounded to know that approximately 50% of the population of Cambodia is less than 15 years old. Furthermore, 60% of the population of this Southeast Asian nation is less than 30 years old. This is one of the reasons why Cambodia is full of young faces with a positive outlook on life. However, the reason behind such a young average age is not positive whatsoever. It is the result of genocide conducted during the rule of the Khmer Rouge. In a span of just 4 years, the population of Cambodia was reduced by 2-3 million.

Birthdays are not a big deal in Cambodia

Birthday is one of the most important days of people's life. Hence, they not only eagerly wait for it for weeks but also emphasise celebrating it in the best way possible. However, this is not the case with the majority of the population in Cambodia. Here, birthdays are not considered a major event. Some individuals do not even remember their birthdays; they are only aware of the season of their birthday.

Foreign Currency

Cambodia's official currency is the Cambodian Riel. However, the United States Dollar has been acting as the unofficial second currency of the country for a long time. The majority of local businesses in Cambodia would accept the USD  without any issues. Moreover, if we receive a visa on arrival, we would also be required to pay the amount in USD. This clearly shows that US dollars should be the ideal choice for international travellers.  While it is quite clear that USD will go a long way in Cambodia, many tourists still face many issues regarding a forex exchange. From getting the best rate for the bucks to choosing a reliable source, exchanging domestic currency for dollars can be complicated. Thomas Cook  can help us in solving this issue. A rate card  is available on the official website wherein we can buy and sell the currency of our choice.  When it comes to buying, tourists can also get a travel card which is much more convenient than carrying cash all the time. We can also choose to sell INR to receive the currency of our choice.  Moreover, there is an incredible option of Locked-in exchange rates. This will save us the worry of constant fluctuations in the market. The forex travel card can be loaded at the locked-in exchange rate and will ensure that the value of the amount remains the same irrespective of the fluctuations.  Thomas Cooks understands the customer's pain points and aims to come up with the best possible travel-related solutions. Thus, investing in a travel card can improve the Cambodia tour package.

Sachin is an asset for Veena world ! Service by all other depts is also excellent.

Manager (Sandesh Wagh) was quite caring & helpful. Overall tour though tiring, was filled with fun. Most tour members were very friendly.

Review of Combodia Vietnam Trip : Our Kudos to Veena World for assisting us at every stage, right from planning the locations to visa documentation to ticketing and all minor important issues. Special thanks to Mr Sahil Patil for integrating all members of the group into a cohesive homely family, for entertaining us, providing us with vital and timely information to cautioning us about various pitfalls that would mar the trip and being with us beyond the call of duty. His selfless and untiring efforts through out the trip made these nine days enjoyable and exhilarating. Thanks and regards to the entire team. Jai Hind Reddy family

Hi there, excited to share our feedback about our Vietnam-Cambodia trip. We are extremely satisfied and delighted with our tour manager Ms. Deepika Dandekar. This was our first experience with a woman tour manager and we must confess that she has proven to be the best one amongst all the managers we have dealt with so far on the basis of professionalism, leadership and communication👌👌👌 She made sure we were on time everywhere, we were treated with toppings, we were given clear instructions about day to day programs and modifications, if any. I personally like the fact that a woman-led organization like Veena World has capable, strong and professional women tour managers too🙏👍. Loved our tour plans and balance of Indian and Cambodian-Vietnamese food. Absolutely enjoyed inclusion of Mekong Delta in our tour and I request that it should be added in regular itinerary so that future tourists can enjoy this experience. Hoi an trip was my favorite experience of the trip. Hanoi could have been explored more, in my honest opinion, as we craved to see more of it. Also Bana Hills Sun World visit should be for the entire day as half a day doesn't do justice to it. I request you to take all the points into consideration which our travel buddies suggested so that future trips can be much for fun and wholesome. Our trip members were the most fabulous group we have ever come across! Once again thanking Veena World for making this trip a memorable experience for us😊 Shout out to Roshni Bagwe for booking & support throughout the process and for always being there for guidance. Finally, bravo team Veena World and all the best for upcoming tours✌ We will book the next trip soon and look forward to making lifetime memories with you!!! Regards! Dr. Jayshri Sonkul

What is the best time to visit Vietnam?

The best time to visit Vietnam largely depends on which part of the country you plan to visit and what activities you want to do. Generally, the best time to visit Vietnam is from December to February when the weather is dry and cool in the northern and central regions, and warm and sunny in the south. This is also the peak tourist season, so be prepared for crowds and higher prices.

If you plan to visit the north, including Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Sapa, the best time to go is from September to November or from March to May when the weather is mild and pleasant. From June to August, the north experiences hot and humid weather, and from December to February, it can get quite cold, especially in the mountainous areas.

If you plan to visit the central regions of Vietnam, including Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang, the best time to go is from February to May, when the weather is dry and cool. From June to August, the central regions experience hot and humid weather, and from September to January, they can be affected by typhoons and heavy rains.

If you plan to visit the south, including Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta, and Phu Quoc Island, the best time to go is from November to April when the weather is dry and warm. From May to October, the south experiences hot and humid weather and occasional heavy rains.

Overall, Vietnam is a beautiful country to visit year-round, but the best time to visit really depends on your preferences and itinerary.
