- 107laurenc 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Mixed feelings I have always wanted to 'visit' and ride a camel however, I was left feeling a bit guilty afterwards. On arrival the men 'welcoming' were a little rude. After a bit of a mix up with payments, we waited around 10minutes before beginning our ride. During this time we were free to see the camels. Once we started our ride, we were taken to out camel and then seated either side. The camels looked in good condition, however seemed unhappy to have people on them. Once we set off, we realised that all of the camels were tied together and the rope was very short from each other, meaning they were being pulled along. We then noticed that the camels had metal rings through their nose(see first picture) aiding them to walk on if they did not do so naturally. The camels did not look unhappy however, I would not return and would not be happy to do this again due to the fact they were under pressure to walk using metal rings and ropes. The workers very clearly love the camels and call them by their 'names'. I'll leave the decision up to you. Read more Written November 21, 2019
- 62felicityt 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great fun camel ride We visited with 8yr old daughter for my husbands birthday. The camels were well looked after there was no sign of maltreatment and we were given lots of info about them. My daughter and I rode Boran and husband was behind us on Gelfor. She got to feed Gelfor as he kept popping his head to her... Initially she was worried about them but as the ride progressed and she got to pet them she was fine and we all had a lovely experience. Would highly recommend. There is no hard sell of photos and they should have introduced the photo opportunity at the start. - Gscholland 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Once on the camels ok but not the warmest welcome on arrival Read a few other reviews about this place. It is difficult to find in the Maspalomas dunes as it’s not clearly sign posted except for one sign which directs you but the camels are in plain sight so it’s not difficult once you get to that point. Read reviews about camels moaning but I think I was more worried about the guy you show your ticket too. He wasn’t the most happiest person I’ve met on holiday.... very abrupt. I even dared ask him where I could buy some bottles of water as their vending machine was out of order... he was just as abrupt then! Fortunately the staff who lead the camels around the dunes are friendly and chatty. The total ride was about 40 minutes. The camels seemed willing to transport us and didn’t make a moaning sound. Perhaps the thing we were concerned about was the wire muzzle on each camel. I had read about this before we booked. The muzzle did appear more restrictive than the muzzles on another camel ride we experienced a few days later. I’d had been more happy if they had taken the wire muzzle off our camel and put it on the guy at their ticket desk Read more Written November 2, 2019

- Tony R 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Very relaxed and worthwhile Firstly, the location isn't obvious - basically walk along to the end of the beach until you reach fencing, then follow the path/road for approximately 1km. When you pay you get a ticket number and are allocated a time slot. With this in mind, perhaps a morning visit is best if you have other things planned - we arrived at 12.30 and our slot was 14.40 so we went for lunch. Very friendly staff who ensure that weight limits are followed on the camels. You can stroke them, feed them and take your own photos, so don't feel pressured to buy. The trip itself is between 30-40 minutes. Our trip departed a little later than planned, but this was because the camels were being rested - a good thing. Fun - yes. Suncream - yes. Hat - yes. If anyone is concerned about animal welfare, the animals are well treated. Having said that, this would be a strange choice if you had any concerns. As would a zoo... Personally very happy with a camel called Richard! Read more Written August 25, 2019

Camel rides are done in an area of Las Dunas de Maspalomas , about 1km from the Maspalomas Lighthouse.
On the reservation voucher, you will find detailed and precise information about how to get there , since the area is very poorly marked and it’s difficult to find the departure point.

Are there any restrictions for camel riding? Only people who weigh up to 110 kg may go.
Are there any age restrictions? There are no age restrictions. Babies and children up to 3 years old go on the ride accompanied by their mother or father.
Can people in wheelchairs do the ride? Yes, no problem. If the person is unable to take a few steps from the wheelchair to reach the camel, he or she is lifted in order to sit on the camel.
What are your hours of operation? Everyday from 9:00am till 3:00pm. Last ride at 2:30pm.
How long does the camel ride last? 30 minutes
How often do the camel trips leave? Every 15 minutes
What kind of health care do the camels receive? All of our animals are healthy and strong. We do not have sick animals working. Their health can be easily checked. Camels are ruminants and are ruminating for around 17 hours each day. A camel that does not ruminate like this is indisposed or sick.
Our camels also have their own veterinarian. All are registered with the Canary Islands government in the Department of Animal Health, where the status of the camels can be checked.
All of our animals have a microchip (which is not required) and are checked every year.
Each year run blood tests and a tuberculosis test are run by the Canary Islands’ official veterinarians, and they are also dewormed every two months.
How long do the camels work? The camels are ready to work between 9:15 and 15:45. We have 35 working animals and the work is divided among them all. While some go for a ride, the others rest until their turn. In July, August and the Holy Week, the rotation may be greater, but during the rest of the year they do about three or four 30 minute rides.
How many kilos can these camels carry? The camels we have are pack animals, not bred for racing, and they weight between 450 – 700 kilos. They can easily carry between 250 and 300 kilos, and we choose each camel based on the client, leaving the youngest and strongest for the heaviest clients, and the older camels for the lightest people. However, the maximum weight for riding a camel is 100 kilos per person.
Why do the camels wear muzzles? It is required for all camels to wear muzzles, and we put them on very loose so as to not cause injury. None of these animals has a broken lip because of the muzzle, but rather because all camels have a split upper lip. It is their morphology. The split lip helps camels to eat thorny plants like Cactus, Acacias and other spiny plants without getting hurt.
Can two people ride if our weight is very different? Yes. The weight of the two people is always balanced by adding sand bags around the person who weighs less so that the camel carries the same weight on both sides.
How can I get there? We explain how to get there in the voucher.
We loved it
We loved the ride and also noticed that the camels were well cared for.
Regular. The ride was pleasant but there isn’t much to see during the tour.
Well organized although it’s hard to find
I didn’t think it would be so relaxing.
Luckily the information to find the site was on the reservation voucher because it’s very poorly signaled. Good service.
Good organization but you have to follow the instructions of the voucher for the schedules, so you don’t have to wait, and to figure out how to get there
You feel like you’re in the Saharan desert
Even though the camel caravan leaves every 15 minutes, if you come at 11:00 you’ll have to wait. Still, it was worth it.
Nice experience
A family experience. We went with our children aged 1 to 7 and they organized everything so we could all go in the same caravan
Very cool. The camel drivers are very friendly and the tour was pleasant
The tour is fine, it’s enough for an enjoyable experience, but we arrived at 11:30 and had to wait
We were 5 people in our group and my husband, who weighs more than 110 kilos, couldn’t ride. It’s stated in the FAQs, but they should add that information on the reservation voucher
Disappointing. It’s not in the Maspalomas Dunes. The ride is through the Dunes National Park, but it doesn’t go between them.
Everything was good. The camel caravans leave every 15 minutes and although we had to wait for our turn, it was worth it.
Amazing. I went with my 4-year-old son and we had a great time.
Riding a camel near the Maspalomas Dunes makes you feel like you’re in the desert
Even though the camel caravan leaves every 15 minutes, if you come at 11:30 you’ll have to wait. Still, it was worth it.
Special. I had never ridden a camel so it was a different experience and the ride was very calm
Good experience. Although there isn’t much to see and the caravan goes quite slowly, the experience was quite enjoyable
The camels are well cared for which was my main concern and the camel ride through the dunes was enjoyable
We went at 9:00 as we were told and didn’t have to wait at all to get on the camels. Then we took the chance to spend the day at Maspalomas beach. So everything was great.
You need to follow the indications stated on the reservation voucher, otherwise finding the site will be impossible. We went early and were able to ride in the first caravan. It was very nice.
Entertaining
Ideal as a family plan. It was cheap and my kids really enjoyed it.
A nice camel ride

Camel ride in the Maspalomas Dunes
Many consider Gran Canaria as a “mini-continent” because of its countless different landscapes. In the south of Gran Canaria you can find a mini-Sahara: the spectacular dunes of Maspalomas . They were formed many centuries ago by a sandstorm from Africa.
Next to the dunes there’s “ La Charca de Maspalomas ”, a nature reserve, and at the beginning of it all is a camel camp with more than 30 animals, which offers camel rides in the Maspalomas Dunes .
Have you ever seen a white camel with blue eyes or a baby camel?
Camels in Gran Canaria
Camels have inhabited the Canary Islands for more than 50 years. In the past they were mainly used as pack animals in agriculture or for military purposes. Soon, after the decline of agriculture and the introduction of modern means of transport, their only salvation on the islands was the tourist boom. Thus, camel safaris became a unique experience and offer, especially in the south of Gran Canaria .
Discover the desert of Gran Canaria
The dunes and the nature reserve offer a perfect habitat for the one-humped Arabian camels (actually Dromedaries). Moreover, this place offers a wonderful contrast: the dunes of Maspalomas with the blue sea in the background on one side and the mountains of the island's interior on the other side. With a camel safari you can discover the desert landscape of the dunes by riding through the palm groves and bushes.
Fancy a fun ride through the dunes of one of the biggest treasures of the south of Gran Canaria?
Desert walk in the south of Gran Canaria
Ride through the desert landscape of the Maspalomas dunes on the back of your dromedary and feel like a Tuareg in the Sahara. It’s an unforgettable experience for sure!
