Begin with a quick 10-minute interactive orientation session about the dolphins' natural history, physiology and anatomy. Make your way to a waist-deep platform and experience one-on-one time with the friendly dolphins as they greet you with a fin shake and an unforgettable kiss. As you head into the deeper water, you'll be given a snorkel mask to see how the dolphins turn, glide and hurl themselves high into the air from an underwater point of view.

• A paying adult must accompany every child. For the safety of the dolphins, please remove all jewelry.
• For safety reasons, pregnant women and guests with back or neck injuries may not participate on this excursion.
• Cameras are not allowed while participating in the water.
• Snorkeling gear is provided solely to view the dolphins underwater.
• All guests must wear a life vest while in the water with the dolphin.

Dolphin Royal Swim in Cozumel

Chankanaab National Marine Park is the perfect setting for your swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean. The park offers incredible snorkeling, diving, restaurants, and a beautiful beach, in addition to an unforgettable Royal Swim with dolphins.

This exciting program really gets you up close and personal with these friendly marine mammals. You will start with a briefing about the dolphins and an explanation of the activities you will experience. You will then enter the water on a submerged platform from which you will be able to interact with the dolphins, including the very popular dolphin kiss photo.

From the platform, you will proceed into deeper water (life jackets required) for a speedy dorsal tow ride through the water, holding tightly onto their fins. Next is what most guests consider the highlight of their time with the dolphins - the foot push. You will be propelled through the water by the dolphins as they push you on the bottoms of your feet!

Each session is one hour, with 30 minutes of swim time. Group size is limited to 10 people to ensure that you have a very personal experience. Professional photographers will capture these magical moments for you on video and photo.(available for purchase)

Please Note: The park admission is included in your dolphin tour. Guests in your party who will not be participating in the dolphin activity (including children under 8 years old who are unable to participate in this activity) should book the "An Adventure in Chankanaab" tour in order to enter the park. Guests can arrive at any time and make use of the facilities at the park. Your swim with dolphins in Cozumel begins at the time on your ticket. Frequently Asked Questions

We are inside Chankanaab Natural Park. The park is located at the 9.6 km of the southern coastal highway, only 15 minutes from San Miguel, Cozumel.

Take a taxi from the dock to Chankanaab National Park. The ride will be about $15 USD for 4 persons. Dolphin Discovery facilities are near the park entrance and the path is clearly marked.

The Chankanaab Park is opened daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• Children over 4.6 ft will be allowed to participate alone in any of our dolphin programs by paying the adult rate.
• Children over 3.9 ft up to 4.6 ft will be allowed to participate alone in the Encounter program. To participate in the Swim Adventure or Royal Swim programs, children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
• Children over 3.3 ft and up to 3.9 ft will be allowed to participate in the Encounter program accompanied by a paying adult. To participate in the Swim Adventure or Royal Swim programs, children must be accompanied by two paying adults.
• Children under 3.3 ft will be considered infants and will perform Encounter activities regardless of the program in which they participate (it is a requirement that they fit the vest).

Our programs dolphin swim Swim Adventure and Royal Swim are not allowed for pregnant women, however our Dolphin Encounter program is a great option for women with up to 5 months of pregnancy, previously signing a waiver and accompanied by another adult.

Yes, as long as it's done at least 4 days before the scheduled date of your swim. Cancellations with less than 4 days notice does not apply for any refund. The refund will be made if cancellation is made 5 days or before the scheduled date, however there are bank charges for 10% of its total.

Any opinions as to which of the dolphin excursions is the best in Cozumel?

Carnival is offering no less than 5 (count'em FIVE) different dolphin encounter experiences in Cozumel at both Chankanaab and Dolphinaris. In addition, you can book directly with Chankanaab or Dolphinaris for the various programs that they offer.

I'd personally love to do the Dolphin Dive at Chankanaab (not offered through Carnival), but it is a little pricey at $199 per person, and I'm not sure how my travel partner would feel about scuba diving vs. staying on the surface.

Any opinions on Chankanaab vs. Dolphinaris? Which is the better facility/offers better value? Dolphinaris seems to be more expensive for a similar experience.

I'm considering either the Dolphin Swim Adventure or Royal Dolphin Swim, but is the "Royal Swim" worth the extra $30?

Any idea how much the souvenir photos are since they do not allow you to use your own camera?

I'd assume that the shore excursions sold by Carnival are all operated on "ship time", but I'm not sure. Does anyone know if the Triumph is operating on the same "ship time" as Cozumel (Central) time?

Sorry for all of the questions. We leave on Saturday for our journey to New Orleans, so I'm running out of time to book unless we want to pay ship prices.

We did the Royal Dolphin Swim at Chankanaab a couple years ago (booked independently thru Dolphin Discovery) and it was wonderful. It is a little pricey, but we thought it was worth it. That park is beautiful, too! Can't remember how much the pics were (there's a DVD too), but we were allowed to take our own underwater camera.

I'll answer what I can, having done the Royal Dolphin Swim at Chankanaab on our own. It was awesome! We loved the foot push, that isn't available on the cheaper ones. Pictures were quite expensive. The more you bought, the less per picture it would be. I think it was around $110 for all of them, maybe around 10 pics. One would've been over $20. We bought the DVD they made for $50. That's really nice to have. They did a great job. We were able to take our waterproof digital camera with us into the water. We got plenty of pics with that. Maybe they don't allow that anymore; maybe it depends on who's working there that day.

Triumph (New Orleans) is in the Central Time Zone, just like Cozumel. No time issues there, if you're going on your own.

I did Dolphinaris through Carnival and it was fabulous! Others paid about $10 less bookin directly with them. We had a very nice lunch after at the resaurant there which was included.

Wear a one piece! I didn't and am glad that wasn't caught on video...twice my shorts ended up around my knees!:D

There is a huge difference between a swim and an encounter- Make sure you know exactly what you are booking.

Curious question- these dolphin things sell out rather quickly. Are you sure there are any spots left on the dates you will be in port?

I can definitely recommend the Dolphin Discovery at Chankanaab! We did it on our own, super easy to get a cab there for $10. We did the Royal Dolphin Swim, Manatee Encounter and Sea Lion Encounter. They gave us a special package. Dolphin Discovery gives discounts when you book online and if you want to do more than one I would recommend talking with them directly for scheduling and more discounts.

The others are accurate about photo prices. Plus, at Chankanaab you are allowed to take your own photos as well.

Another advantage about Dolphin Discovery is that alot of the ones that did the Royal Swim got a complimentary interaction with the manatees. Plus there is a Sea Lion show. The restaurant is very good too.

If you go to the Ports Of Call section and then to the Cozumel thread, you will see lots of info on both programs.

Have fun, wish I was going back soon. Next time I go to Cozumel we will definitely go back to Chankanaab.

We did the dolphins at Dolphin Discovery-Chankanaab in March and there was a time difference of 1 hour. They were an hour behind ships time. I booked directly on the website (I think I called an 800 number?) and while I was checking out the website I found a photo special. If you prepaid you could get 3 photos and the DVD for like $30 off or something like that (I knew I would want it). We also took our on underwater cameras. Have a great cruise!

We just got back and did the Royal Swim at Chakanaab, We booked it on our own. This was the second time for the wife and I and the first for our 10 year old. The swim was great and we too got to hang with the Manatees for about 10 minutes. The pics were $25 each or $120 for all, there were 3 of us. If someone is with you that does not do the swim they can pay $5 for a wristband and stand on the dock near the pen where you swim and take pics. I personally like Chakanaab since you have the resteraunt, cocktail servers on the beach and snorkeling right there. As for the time deal their times are central we were on the Freedom out of FLL and were on eastern time, messed us up a bit but just ment another hour at the beach.

Book independant threw Chankanaab! I took my 7 yr old daughter in Nov and we took a taxi there. Just remember the time difference when you book. We didn't have one since we sailed out of Galveston. We did the Dolphin swim and then our guid took us over for a Manatee encounter. I booked online but learned if you call them you can get more things free if you ask. The park is also a nice place to hang when you are done with your swim. There is a nice pool and snorkling. The food is pretty good and not to expencive.

I bought 1 pic for $20 but brought an underwater camera and got a ton of great pics!

We just got off the Liberty and we booked our own Chakanaab Dolphin excursions and LOVED them!! They do allow underwater/waterproof cameras (the small size). We have px and videos. The photos they take are REALLY expensive - $25 each!! My husband and I did the Dolphin Encounter and my sons/wives did the Dolphin Swim Adventure and got the manatees free by booking online. We all had a fabulous time and the park is pristine and very welcoming. The taxi (van) from the cruise port to the park was $23 plus a tip and took about 7 minutes, that was for 6 people. Our ship was one hr time difference. They have free lockers and a changing/bathroom area. The gift shop was nice, but pricey (as most are).

Thanks for the info as we are going next week - I asked on line and was told no cameras they have photographers there but maybe it's just who I talked to?

Whether you have a time difference depends on your ship's port of origin in the US. For the Triumph in Nov. there was no time difference with Cozumel.

THose phone ladies for the Dolphin Discovery don't even work out of Chankanaab. You can bring a water camera.

They told me there would be no where for my Hubby to watch and that was wrong too.

wantocruisemore is correct. The time difference depends on your port of origin. The OP is sailing on the Triumph out of New Orleans (Central Time Zone). Cozumel is on Central Time Zone. No time difference for the OP. For anyone who sails around Daylight Savings Time (March-April & Oct-Nov), they would have to check into this, as Cozumel's Daylight Savings Time is shorter than ours (starting later & ending earlier than us). This won't be a factor for the OP either, since they leave next week.

brilliantseas, if you're wanting to do one of the dolphin programs at either facility on your own, you may want to get a reservation quickly. There will be 5 ships and around 15,000 people in port on that day. It will be tough to do a walk-up, because they will probably sell out. We didn't reserve, but we were the only ship in port, so they had plenty of openings when we walked up. Good luck, & have a great time, whatever you choose!

Thanks for the help. I booked the "Dolphin Swim Adventure" through Dolphins Cozumel at Chankanaab for $94.05 per person after the online advanced booking discount. Look for pictures and a review in my signature when I get home.
