A popular item many experienced cruisers pack are cruise magnets.  There are different types of cruise magnets for different uses.

Cruise magnets can be used to:

• Decorate your cruise cabin door
• Organize your cabin (stateroom)

Cruise door magnets – decorations

Cruise magnets are the perfect way to decorate the outside of your cabin (stateroom) door.  They are light weight, durable and take up hardly any space in your luggage.  Personalized magnets for cruise ship doors are even more special.

Most cruise ship doors and walls are metal, making cruise magnets the easiest way to decorate.  Cruise magnets are instant stateroom decorations.

Stateroom door decorations are most popular on Disney Cruise Line, however you will also find them on Royal Caribbean cruises, on Carnival Cruise Line, and others.

However, not all cruise lines allow cruise cabin door decorations. It is said that Norwegian Cruise Line no longer allows stateroom door decorations. I looked for confirmation of this on their website, however couldn’t find any information on door decorations. Be aware that there may be different cruise line rules.

Cruise door decorations not only up the fun on your cruise but makes it easy to recognize your cabin (stateroom).  When you walk down a long corridor of identical stateroom doors you will be glad you brought your own door decorations.

Kids will absolutely love putting their personalized cruise magnet on their cabin door.

I have seen some cruisers put a magnetic small whiteboard on the outside of their door so fellow passengers can leave a hello message. A small magnetic whiteboard can also be used inside your stateroom as a message board.

There is a really great selection of Disney stateroom door magnets if there is a Disney cruise in your future, as well as options that can be personalized to suit any cruise line.

There are some really cute cruise magnets for any occasion whether it is a family cruise, Disney cruise, graduation celebration, a birthday cruise or even your first cruise vacation.

If you are considering other cruise door decorations, they must be made of flame retardant materials and not just sprayed with flame retardant, for safety reasons.

Magnets are one of the smallest and most inexpensive cruise cabin organizers you can buy.

Cruise magnets to organize your stateroom

Experienced cruisers often use magnets to help organize their stateroom and to create extra space in their room by creating wall storage.  While magnets won’t take up much room in your bag they can make a big difference in keeping your cabin tidy and clutter free.

There are two types of cruise magnets you should add to your packing list.

Magnetic hooks

Create more space in your cruise cabin with magnetic hooks .  A magnetic metal hook can be hung near your cabin door to hang your cruise lanyard & key card holder or to hang your sweater.  Magnetic hooks can also be used to hang your hat, sunglasses, and jewellery.  These are all items that would other wise clutter up your desk and table areas.    

Magnetic hooks come in varying strengths, so be sure to choose stronger magnets.

Magnetic clips

Magnetic clips can be used to help keep your cruise stateroom clutter free.  There is a lot of paper delivered to your cabin (stateroom) daily, you can use magnetic clips to keep this organized and off the counters.  Use strong magnetic clips to keep your daily cruise schedules handy and in one place.

Here is a picture of the magnetic clips similar to the ones we use. When we aren’t cruising, we use them on our fridge.

Another use for magnetic clips on your cruise is to use it as a messaging center for the others staying in your cabin.  Attach a small notebook or a few pieces of paper to the magnetic clip and balance a pen on top.    

While magnets weren’t something you probably initially thought to pack, hopefully this has shown you that magnets can make a big impact in your stateroom. So, go ahead and get yourself some cute magnets for your cruise ship door. This could be a fun new tradition.

Do any of you fridge magnet collectors know whether the photo shop sell fridge magnets that show the ports of call on a map visited on the cruise. I have never looked at the magnets on Thomson before, but on our recent Norway Winter cruise on Fred, they had map magnets which I thought were brilliant, and also postcard sized photos of Norway with all the ports marked up.

It is not a map as such, but shows the itinerary from port to port.
