Address to type in Google Maps or MapQuest?

Dubai Cruise Terminal on Google Maps and Port Rashid on MapQuest.   Google Map gives more detailed and accurate information in my opinion.  It also displays the hotels that are nearby.

How far is Dubai’s airport to Dubai’s cruise port?

It takes about 25 minutes to get from the airport to the port on a good day without much traffic going on.  It is a distance of about 14.9 km.  You can easily take a taxi to Dubai’s cruise port.

How much will it cost to take a taxi to get to Dubai’s cruise port from Dubai’s airport?

Keep in mind that a 20dh surcharge will be added to your fare when you are picked up from Dubai’s airport or Dubai’s cruise port.  It would cost approximately 50dh to 60dh one way.  As of today’s money exchange rate, that would be about 15 to 20 dollars in US currency.  All taxis are metered and prices are not negotiated.

An Introduction About Dubai

Dubai is a member of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. The city is situated on the north shore of the Arabia. As recently as the 1950s Dubai was a small-time trading and fishing town. Now  a soaring conurbation has appeared. All around is taller, bigger, and more spectacular. Glass towers emerge out of the bleak desert sands and dream world islands have been constructed offshore, formed like palm trees or unbelievably a map of the globe. The city is today an extensive free trade area and has become a key business center in the region. Dubai has the nickname the ‘City of Merchants’, thanks to the vast volume of business, or alternatively ‘City of Gold’, because of its vast  Gold shops. Dubai’s most characteristic aspect is its fabulously appointed hotels and its massive shopping malls, guaranteed to wow every holidaymaker. Weather conditions in Dubai are very hot to the extent that all indoor areas are air-conditioned. In wintertime, Dubai is just right, warm and balmy, wonderful for sitting on the beach. From spring temperatures can hit over 100°F and it can be oppressively muggy.

The 2022-2023 season is scheduled to see 166 ship calls between Mina Rashid and Dubai Harbour, bringing in an estimated 900,000 cruise passengers and crew. Commenting on the occasion, His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Border Security Council, said: “The strong outlook for Dubai’s 2022-2023 cruise season will help accelerate its drive to realise the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the world’s most visited destination and the best city to live and work in.” His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed added: “The cruise industry is an integral part of Dubai’s tourism sector and plays an important role in reinforcing the emirate’s status as a global tourism hub. Dubai’s robust port infrastructure and state-of-the-art terminal facilities can handle some of the world’s largest cruise ships, underpinning the city’s reputation as one of the world’s most advanced cruise destinations and a key gateway for regional and international cruise itineraries.” His Highness said: “The scheduled increase in cruise liners and passengers visiting the city’s shores this season is driven by Dubai’s exceptional maritime infrastructure and the availability of some of the world’s most outstanding tourist attractions. Dubai’s position at the forefront of the rebound in international tourism underscores its emergence as a hub for cruise tourism.” Some major cruise liners scheduled to visit Dubai this season include MSC Cruises & TUI Cruises and Ponant (MSC World Europa, Opera, Mein Schiff 6 & Le Bougainville), which will make the award-winning Mina Rashid Cruise Terminal their home port for the season. In addition, C.S. Aida Cosma (arriving on 17 November) and C.S. Costa Toscana, the two new LNG-powered cruise ships, will arrive at the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal. Several cruise liners arriving in Dubai have outlined their commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation. Coupled with the energy-efficient infrastructure and facilities in Dubai’s ports, this will help achieve the ambitious sustainability goals outlined in the UAE’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the UAE Net Zero 2050 initiative. The cruise industry continues to significantly contribute to the city’s tourism sector and is set to build on the remarkable rebound of Dubai’s wider tourism sector. Dubai received 98 ship calls and more than 338,697 passengers and crew during the 2021-2022 cruise season. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World , said: “Cruise Tourism has become an increasingly key contributor to Dubai’s economy. The emirate’s central location, midway between Europe and Asia, is vital to its success as a primary homeport for cruise ships in the Arabian Gulf and the wider Middle East and its popularity as one of the top destinations. Owing to Dubai’s strengths, including decades of investments in the tourism industry and the expansion of cruise terminals, we are predicting another robust winter for the 2022-2023 season. At our cruise terminals, we expect 123 calls from some of the largest cruise operators, which is a 100 per cent increase over the last season. Additionally, passenger and crew inflows are forecast to rise to around 600,000, more than double the previous season.” His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism , said: “Dubai continues to chart a steady course to enhance its position as the region’s leading cruise destination, in line with the leadership’s vision to make the city the world’s most sought-after travel destination. We are grateful to our valued network of stakeholders and partners for their continued cooperation and support, which has led to a growing number of international cruise operators looking to anchor in the emirate. With the world’s top luxury liners heading to Dubai during the new cruise season, we will work with our partners to encourage cruise travellers to enjoy the destination’s diverse offerings, especially our unique winter sun proposition. Dubai remains a blueprint for global tourism recovery. We look forward to another successful cruise season as the launching pad to generate further momentum across the regional cruise industry and maintain Dubai’s position as a global tourism hub.” Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Shamal Holding, said: “Following the successful debut of the largest standalone dedicated twin cruise terminal in the eastern hemisphere, we have a positive outlook for the forthcoming cruise season. With the C.S. Aida Cosma and C.S. Costa Toscana homeporting at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminals along with the arrival of other visiting world-class cruise liners, we will be welcoming thousands of passengers, acting as a natural gateway to the attractions that Dubai has to offer. We look forward to building on last year’s efforts and providing the world-class infrastructure, facilities, and seamless experience necessary to support the region’s maritime tourism, contributing to Dubai’s ambition to become the most visited city in the world.” Dubai has taken important steps to facilitate cruise travel through the strong ongoing development of ports and cruise terminal infrastructure, hassle-free entry procedures and visa facilities, and strengthening collaborations with leading industry players and stakeholders to further drive cruise visitation. Its popularity as a cruise destination has expanded significantly over the past decade, resulting in the world’s biggest cruise liners consistently including Dubai as a port of call in their cruise itineraries. Notable facilities include the award-winning Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal at Mina Rashid, capable of simultaneously handling seven mega-cruise vessels and 14,000 cruise passengers. In addition, the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal features the most advanced facilities, including bespoke Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges. Strategically located in the heart of new Dubai, close to international airports and iconic tourist attractions, it can process 3,250 passengers per hour per terminal.

Dubai Facilitates Cruise Ship Traffic for 2023/24 Season

Dubai Facilitates Cruise Ship Traffic for 2023/24 Season

With the start of the 2023/24 cruise season, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has been putting in every effort to facilitate the smooth arrival and departure of cruise ships to and from Dubai ports. The PCFC , acting through its various departments, seeks to consolidate Dubai's position as a major global tourist destination and a distinctive cruise tourism hub by guaranteeing a comfortable and safe travel experience for ship passengers and crews alike. His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation , stated that the PCFC, in cooperation with the relevant authorities in the Emirate, plays a pivotal role in facilitating cruise vessel traffic in Dubai waters by overseeing stringent security and safety frameworks that are smooth and flexible at the same time. The PCFC is looking to further enhance security and safety during the ongoing cruise season with up to 150 ships expected to visit Dubai carrying thousands of guests from all over the world. HE Bin Sulayem explained that the Security Department of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation has been working to facilitate the movement of ships to and from Dubai ports in a way that guarantees the safety and security of visitors and ship crews serving them. The roles and responsibilities entrusted with the security department vary according to the types of ships entering or leaving the port, he said.

These efforts call for implementing various security requirements and measures specified for the port in question in keeping with the categorisation of ships as commercial or tourist vessels, he added. Bin Sulayem stressed that the PCFC , through its security arm, is keen to implement a comprehensive and integrated security system that corresponds to the best security standards listed in the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code to ensure full compliance with regulations by everyone on board vessels.

Bin Sulayem also pointed to the role of the Environment, Health and Safety Department (EHS) under the Department of Planning and Development - Trakhees in carrying out inspections on board cruise ships coming to Dubai and verifying compliance with safety requirements. The EHS Department is responsible for verifying equipment and ballast water, in addition to other environmental and health standards on ships, to protect the marine environment in particular and the Emirate of Dubai in general from any potential pollution or health risks. His Excellency added:

“The arrival of (Resilient Lady) Cruise Ships to Dubai heralds the beginning of an exceptional season for cruises where, thanks to our Security Department, we played a fundamental and important role in ensuring safety and stability for the cruise and its passengers through our commitment to providing the highest levels of service for cruise ships. This way, we serve to make Dubai a pioneering and safe destination in the region, and these efforts also contribute to achieving the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and Dubai’s targets in terms of consolidating its position among the top three urban economies around the world”.

Bin Sulayem expressed his gratitude for the efforts exerted by the Security Department as well as the EHS Department in the context of cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities to secure, monitor and regulate the entry of cruise ships in Dubai waters. In recognition of the efforts and supervision of the Security Department for vessels passing through Dubai and ensuring security at the port, an honouring ceremony was organised on board the Resilient Lady cruise ship in the presence of several key officials and stakeholders. Trophies changed hands between the ship’s captain and representatives of the PCFC Security Department as a way of expressing appreciation for the Department’s efforts. Dubai also recently welcomed the (Al Mostakshif) Kuwaiti research ship affiliated with the Kuwaiti Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), which specialises in the study of marine life and undertakes scientific research projects. The vessel arrived in Dubai to participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) that was recently held in Dubai.

The Environment, Health and Safety Department of the Trakhees Department took responsibility for verifying the certificates of both the ship and the crew, in addition to the inspection of the shipping and communication devices for the vessel, besides checking the gas emissions and ballast water for environmental standards and regulations.
