Downtown Fresno Brewery District: The Craft Beer and Cocktail Bar Tour

Tap into some of Fresno County's best local craft beers and cocktails by visiting the Downtown Fresno Brewery District. Located along Fulton Street between Inyo and Mono, the breweries in the district are all within walking distance of each other and are serving up hops with their own unique twists.

Stop by Tioga Sequoia Brewing Company for craft beer that pays homage to the Central Valley and Southern Sierra Nevada. Taste beers named after world-famous spots in our nearby national parks like the Half Dome California Wheat, which is made from wheat grown right in Fresno County. Other beers are full of Central California pride like the 99 Golden Ale. Try these brews by the glass or get a growler to share (or not to share). Tioga Sequoia hosts a variety of events including the beloved Tacos, Brews and Jams. You'll often find a local food truck parked in the garden as you enjoy a beer with a view of Chukchansi Park.

Location: 723 Fulton Street, Fresno, CA 93721

Down the street from Tioga Sequoia is the 411 Rec Room. It's currently the Brewery District's only tap house serving up craft beer and spirits from breweries worldwide. The menu is always changing and has a wide range of options. The tap house has an artsy vibe, decked out with artwork from local creators and a large chalkboard wall for people to leave messages. The Rec Room is also involved with Fresno's ArtHop, an event held each month where artists display and sell their work at locations across Downtown Fresno and the Tower District.

Food break! We're all about the beer and tacos power duo, and Dab Tacos takes it to the next level. They're the perfect stop for a bite to eat on your journey through the district. Not only do they serve incredible tacos, like their quesotaco that is literally oozing with cheese, but they call themselves the "Home of the Loaded Fry." Imagine crispy golden fries topped with melted cheese, meat, crema, guacamole and more—now open your eyes because it's being served right at Dab Tacos. You'll also find delicious tortas, burritos, quesadillas and more!

Shake things up at Modernist Craft Cocktail Bar, where bartenders are putting their spin on the classics and pouring up some new drinks like the Fres-Nopales Highball. Grab a seat inside where the interior is as beautiful as the colorful drinks or head out to the patio bar to get a view of Fulton Street. The bartenders also mix up non-alcoholic creations and have a special menu during Fresno ArtHop each month.

There are two things Full Circle Brewing Company knows: beer and entertainment. The folks at Full Circle are always down for a good time. They host several events and shows throughout the year, including open mic nights, dance parties and live performances. Full Circle brews their beers onsite at their brewery.  You can try one of their core beers like Juicy, a New England IPA, or their specialty beers, including a variety of milkshake IPAs like the Peaches 'N Cream Illa. There's an edgy vibe the minute you walk through the door, with the neon colors and of course, artwork featuring their skull mascot, Ernie!

When it was founded in 2007, the Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company had the mission of producing world class beers that could bring awareness and resources to the preservation of the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. The Mad Duck Craft Brewery

Right across from Fresno State, The Mad Duck Craft Brewery ‘s location is widely considered to have better quality food and a much nicer restaurant space than the original spot in Clovis. Its decor is very modern, with fancy lights hanging down from the ceilings and a warm atmosphere, making the place feel like a great mead hall, only much brighter. Favorite menu items include the pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, buffalo chicken dip, tater tots, and the Chef’s pub burger. Some of their most popular beers are the Almond Brown, Oatmeal stout, Honey Pot Blonde, IPA, and Citra. In addition, the Raddler, a mix of Honey Pot Blonde and lemonade, is a must try, as it is served in a unique funky decanter-like glass. They even have great deals during happy hour all day on Tuesdays in addition to regular weekday happy hours. The service is always very friendly, welcoming, and quick, as well as very knowledgable about the food and drinks. The owner has been known to give great tours of the brewery from the inside to visitors who express interest in brewed beers. House of Pendragon Brewing Company

Specializing in small batch artisan ales and lagers, House of Pendragon Brewing Company is the first and only microbrewery in Sanger, California, where owner and brewer Tommy Caprelian grew up. Caprelian attended Siebel Brewing Institute and then worked for Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company before deciding that it was time to venture out on his own. House of Pendragon was born and had its first brew day in February 2013. Coco Crusader was the first batch that was made on a professional level, and beers like Lancelot, Guinevere, and Coco Crusader were the first that were showcased in pubs and restaurants in the Fresno and Visalia area. As word spread about the beers, HoP gained a cult following, and its drafts would sell out within a few hours. South of Shaw Beer Company: Grand Opening in Fresno!

South of Shaw is a new local brewery located at 1755 Broadway St #107, Fresno, CA 93721 . They worked tirelessly for 3 years preparing to open and finally had their soft opening on January 29, 2022. It is a great addition to downtown Fresno and has already brought in so many customers during the first month. This weekend, March 11 and 12, they are celebrating their grand opening which is an event you will not want to miss out on!

South of Shaw is serving up modern beers in a 100-year-old setting. South of Shaw Beer Company is the latest brewery to open in Fresno. The roaring twenties serves as inspiration behind the design of the brewery. The owner, Doug Dart, loved the idea of having the vibrant red and contrast of black to make you feel like you were taken back in time. It’s a bar with a coffee shop feel – chill, relaxed, a place to enjoy with good friends and even better drinks.

Their menu consists of a variety of beers and even a selection of wine! Their beer selection varies from blonde ales to dank IPAs including some guest taps totaling their draft list to 12 taps! If that’s not your thing, they also have some options of white and red wines.

Fun fact: When they were digging up trenches for all the water lines they found an old horse shoe and now have it displayed in the bar. You could say they found their own good luck!

While on our brewery tour Doug mentioned how the brewery’s name comes from a from a local 90s rock band whose name is also South of Shaw. In keeping with brewery traditions the three tanks used to brew the beer are actually named after the members of the band! You can thank the brewmaster, Dana Pellerin, for all that goes into making the beer that goes into these uniquely named tanks!

Not Just Beer…

Now, beer is not all they have to offer. There is a convenience here and it’s their kitchen where they serve up some delicious food. They have recently added pizzas for a quick bar bite! They make their pizzas in Neapolitan style. This is a type of pizza that originated in Naples, Italy. This style of pizza is prepared with simple and fresh ingredients. They have your classic margherita pizza but if you are feeling adventurous you should absolutely try the pickle pizza! This pizza includes white sauce, fresh mozzarella, cheddar, and lots of tangy dill pickles. Beware! It is super addicting!

While eating and enjoying your pizza you can sit at their Sisyphus kinetic sand table. It definitely will have you in a trance, and is one of the coolest tables we have ever seen!
