Fujikura ATMOS Shaft Review

50 Words or Less

The Fujikura ATMOS shafts allow you to choose your ball flight – high, medium, or low – while retaining similar smooth feel.

Introduction

A flighted series of shafts is nothing new – virtually every manufacturer offers high, medium, and low launching options.  Where Fujikura has innovated with the ATMOS is in keeping the handle of each shaft the same to maintain a consistent feel throughout the line.  I tested each of the new ATMOS shafts to see if this is the key to selecting your perfect launch conditions.

Fujikura ATMOS_0039

For the ATMOS series, Fujikura brought back their “Tour Spec white” as the base color of the shaft.  The color of the shaft – red, blue, or black – is displayed in the amoeba-esque graphics near the grip and on the branding.  Overall, ATMOS looks sharp without trying too hard or being distracting.

Fujikura delivered on the promise of a consistent feel across the ATMOS line.  While there is a slight difference in the way the tip flexes across the three models, the torque is nearly the same and the butt of each shaft feels similar.  Each of the three shafts produces a solid kick that reminds me a bit of the Fujikura Pro.

ATMOS Blue

Performance

If you want the quick and dirty version, here it is:  each of the ATMOS shafts does the job they’re designed for .  The Black launches the lowest, the Red launches the highest, and the Blue is in the middle.  If you want to get into the weeds of exactly how each performed for me, here we go.

My expectation heading into this testing was that the ATMOS Blue would be the best for me.  While we all want to think we’re outliers, most of us live in the middle of the bell curve, and I’m no exception.  In most lines of shafts, mid-launch is my jam.   The ATMOS Blue did not disappoint : good swings got great results and mediocre swings weren’t punished too badly.  It didn’t invite me to swing out of my shoes, but it held up well to a hard swing without going wide left.

ATMOS Red

The ATMOS Red was the shaft that most intrigued me based on the specs.  I was curious to see if Fujikura could deliver a shaft that launched high without feeling noodle-y.  By and large, they did.  Though the ATMOS Red is the softest in the tip section, it’s miles from your typical whippy rain-bringer.  You can see in the data that the launch and spin were higher for me, but not wildly so.  This shows that the ATMOS line is ideal for good players who want to really dial in their numbers .

ATMOS Black

Despite my expectations, the ATMOS Black ended up being my favorite.  The numbers are very similar to the Blue with spin and launch being slightly lower.  What was more important to me was that it kept my wild swings a little straighter .  Again, I love that the differences between these shafts are small and allow you to get exactly what you want.

The Fujikura ATMOS shafts are available in 60, 70, and 80 gram weights in stiff and X flex.  The ATMOS Black is also available in Tour Stiff and Tour X in the 80 gram version.

Fujikura ATMOS_0027

For the good player seeking to dial in the exact launch conditions and feel that they want, the Fujikura ATMOS shafts are perfect.  The differences in feel are subtle, allowing the golfer to optimize their numbers and get every bit of distance off the tee.  If that sounds appealing to you, book an appointment with your local Fujikura fitter .

Matt what driver loft was used in your test?

' src=

I use a PING G LS Tec 10.5* turned down to 9.9*.

' src=

What flex were you using?

' src=

Matt, thanks for the review. My driver swing speed is 102. I was just fitted by PXG for a new driver and my best results were with the Hazrdus Black in stiff on their prototype 9 degree driver. I purchased a Epic 3 wood today after hitting one for a couple of rounds……loved it……and want to try an Atmos shaft in it. Noticed you liked the X with 105 speed…..should I go for X or do the Stiff?

I would recommend a fitting to get a definitive answer. 105 is a little slow for me, and I prefer a little too stiff to a little too soft, so that’s why I went X.

' src=

Enjoy your reviews very much, can you compare Atmos to Evo3? Also out of both shafts which produced the better numbers?

The ATMOS has a more conventional feel, the EVO3 has a “whip crack” feel like I described in that review. I haven’t tested them head to head, so I can’t say which produces better numbers for me.

' src=

Nice Review! How did you find the blue vs hzrdus black and yellow?

ATMOS is entirely different from HZRDUS Black or Yellow. Totally different feel.

' src=

I love your shaft reviews, keep up the great work.

' src=

I was fitted for a shaft in a Ping G 410 LST. I wanted one that was low torque , low spin and high launch. I loved the Fujikura Atmosphere Tour Spec 65. I have gained yardage and accuracy.

Have finally upgraded fairway woods to M4 with R shaft flex. Have been playing Burner FWoods 8+ years old in S flex, no problem. Swing speed 86/90mph. Too flexible?

Are the results good? There’s no standard for what speed should swing what flex, so if the results are good, play it.

' src=

Can you compare with tour ad tp-6 with atmos black?

I have a review of the AD-TP here: https://pluggedingolf.com/graphite-designs-tour-ad-tp-shaft-review/

' src=

Are these the regular atmos shafts? I was looking at the atmos red ts was wondering how it compared to the project x HZRDUS red shaft?

Matt, With your knowledge per Fuji Atmos and Graphite Design AD, I have a question for you! So my current set up is a Graphite Design Tour AD GP 7TX (untipped) with a Taylormade SLDR tour head at 6.75 loft I’m hitting it the best out of any driver set up am able to hit it high when needed. But when I raise the loft to 8 degrees, I overspin. I’m about to put an Atmos Black 6TX into play and hope that I’ll get the same performance or even better (low spin & high launch) so that I can hit a high ball at a higher head loft (8 perhaps) with lower side spin than what I’m probably getting out of the 6.75 loft with a 7TX Graphite Tour AD GP set up. Does the Atmos black profile play stouter than a TX mid launch low spin profile of the Tour ad GP (or even Tour AD MT series)? I don’t mean to put you on the spot here, but I’ve got no other leads in shafts that dramatically lower spin and perform like the Atmos.

I haven’t tested the AD GP, but based on the specs, I would be surprised if the ATMOS Black was substantially lower spin. That said, the way that ATMOS Black works in your hands may be much lower spin than the AD GP. That’s the unpredictable human element.

' src=

I currently am gaming a Aldila Rogue Black 60g shaft in a 2016 TM M2 10.5 degree head. I just finished a driver fitting hoping for a better performing combination. My fitter said my 16.5 deg launch angle was too high for my 145 mph ball speed. He had me loft down to 9.5 deg w/ a M4 head and a Tensi CK white shaft. Numbers got better. Which Atmos shaft would compare?

The Tensei White should feel most similar to the ATMOS Black.

Hey matt, gonna get my 25 yr old son a set of m4 irons for xmas but not sure about which shafts to get in them, he hits 5 iron with his old rac irons between 190 and 200 yards with a high flight 7 iron between 160 and 170 so what wud you suggest the standard kuro kage shafts or upgrade to atmos. Thanks Thomas

The best thing to do would be to get your son a fitting. I recommend Club Champion or True Spec. There’s no way for me to give a good recommendation without seeing him in person.

Matt, I read a review you did of the Fubuki ZT a few years ago. I have the shaft in Callaway 815, and was pleased by how well you liked the club and how well it did for you (285 yards) at the time. I hit high drives, but thank God above, have hit some of my best drives the last 2 years, playing very little, with this club. Could you remember the ZT well enough to compare it to the Atmos? Considering getting the Atmos black in a 70 weight, whereas my ZT is a 60, is there much difference in these two shafts? Both seem to be low spin, I tend to have trouble staying in the correct fairway, which is probably me more than the club. Thanks, I always enjoy reading your reviews.

Honestly, no, I don’t remember the ZT well enough to give you a good comparison. My standard advice applies: get fit, compare the new to your current, and see if it’s worth a change.

Thanks Matt, I would have liked to have made it to CC while they have their special, but i am not going to get there. Thanks again for the reviews, I do enjoy them.

Matt, How do the Tensei Orange and Tour Ad IZ Compare to the Atmos Black? I had the opportunity to test both the Orange and AD IZ, on course. The IZ played stiffer and dispersion was a little tighter which I liked, Orange was surprisingly softer than I expected… if in a launch monitor the orange might have produced a little more ball speed. Either wouldn’t have been a bad choice. X flex in the orange would have played a little more to my liking.

I have reviews of the AD IZ here: https://pluggedingolf.com/graphite-design-tour-ad-iz-shaft-review/ and the Tensei Orange here: https://pluggedingolf.com/mitsubishi-tensei-orange-shaft-review/

Hi Matt. Probably a dumb question but I’ll ask anyway. I just ordered a TM M4-D 9.5* with regular Atmos Red shaft. Of course, I can lower or increase the loft of the TM by 2*. So, if I find the launch angle and spin rate too high, will lowering the loft reduce spin rates? I would normally use a still flex shaft but as I’ve aged, my swing speed has slowed a bit (probably 95 +/- now). Your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

All else equal, yes, lowering the loft will decrease the spin. However, lowering the loft will open the face, which may affect your ability to square the face at impact which could actually cause the spin to go up.

' src=

I’m having trouble figuring out the difference between the shaft weights, what does the 40, 50, 60, or 70 numbers actually mean? Is it the stiffness of the shaft? Thanks

The number relates to the weight.

' src=

Matt – What is the difference between the Atmos red 5R and the Atmos red 5R2? I am a senior player currently use a Ping G400 10.5 degree, Alta CB Senior flex 55 gram shaft with very good results. Smooth swing in the 85 mph range. Thanks. Duke of the North

R2 is a senior or lite flex.

' src=

Matt, The M6 driver and fairway woods come with the Fujikura Atmos Orange. What can this shaft in a regular flex be compared to with the rest of the Atmos line of shafts.

Thanks John

The ATMOS Orange is made just for the M6, it’s not part of the aftermarket line. I haven’t tested it, and I’m not sure where it falls in the ATMOS family.

' src=

I am a high handicap golfer what shaft is best for me atmos 6 red 7 red or orange

There’s no way for anyone to accurately answer that question without working with you in person. I would strongly recommend getting a fitting.

' src=

Hi, I have a swing speed around 90 and was wondering if the Atmos Orange R flex is much different to the Atmos Red R flex. The orange is my M6 driver and the red my M4 fairway wood.

Thanks for your question. The ATMOS Orange was made just for TaylorMade’s M Series, and we have not tested it, so we can’t offer a comparison to the Red.

' src=

Hey Matt, Love the review. How would say the Atmos black compares to the HZRDUS black in terms of stiffness? Would you say that a PX 5.5 is more like a stiff in Fujikura? Or are they comparable 6.0 PX = stiff in Fujikura? Nick

In terms of feel, the ATMOS Black feels half a flex softer than the HZRDUS Black, to me.

' src=

I am looking to buy a used set of Cobra F9 speedback irons. I found a set for a very decent price. However, they come with the Atmos black regular flex shirts. I am a high handicapper who sometimes struggles with getting my irons in the air. I really want to buy these because the price is really good but don’t want to hurt what little game I have.

' src=

Comparing atmos ts blue 6x and the 7s numbers are real close except weight 7 weights 9 grams more and has a4 point stiffer tip I swing between 100 and 105. I have the 7s in my 3 wood and like the results which do you feel would be better in a sim max

There’s no way for me to say definitively. Do you want a lighter shaft in your driver? What are you playing now?

' src=

I bought a set of TM M4s with ATMOS RED 6R flex. I had to buy the 4 iron, A and SW and recovery club individually but they have a 5R flex. I’m a 60 year old 14 handicap golfer. Is the difference between the 6R and 5R material enough to justify the cost of me changing the 5Rs to 6Rs or should I just ignore the difference?

Have you played them yet? Do you feel a difference or see a difference in the performance?

' src=

Hi Matt was playing taylormade r11 driver with Fujikura blur 60 regular shaft. Been using for 10 years and just brought a M4 driver with a ATMOS 5 r flex shaft. Is there a big difference between these shafts “? Made fade has turned into a slice . Any insight would be highly appreciated.

Given that you changed both the head and shaft, I can’t draw a hard conclusion about the cause of the slice. You did drop some shaft weight, which may be something your swing isn’t getting along with.

In my opinion, just because a certain shaft performs well in one head does not mean it will in another. The weight of the heads would have to be the same or very close.

Is this a correct assumption?

Yes, this can be the case.

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

fujikura atmos black tour spec

If you have the Taylormade M6 driver in your bag then you are probably already familiar with the Fujikura Atmos Black shaft.

This was the stock shaft for the M6. But the Fujikura Atmos Black may be a good shaft for your driver regardless of the make and model.

If we know anything about Fujikura shafts it’s that they are invariably smooth. The only variable is how you swing your driver. So in the following review, we will tell you exactly how the Fujikura Atmos Black performed for us and what type of player/swing style it works best with.

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Overview

The Fujikura Atmos Black is intended to be the low-launching, low-spinning shaft in the Atmos line.

You can also check out the Atmos Red and Atmos Blue if your swing style works better with higher launch and spin numbers. The Fujikura Atmos Black has minimal branding and graphics. In fact, the only graphics are the “separating cells” that adorn the grip section. And we like minimal branding in general because it’s very easy to overdo it and when you overdo it, you end up with a distracting shaft.

The Fujikura Atmos Black has a firm grip and tip section. There is a clear kick in the middle of the shaft that works with you, not against you. Being the lowest-launching shaft in the Atmos line, we were expecting a stout, hard-to-activate feel. That wasn’t the case. While the Fujikura Atmos Black does feel stable, you don’t need a super-fast swing speed to activate it. Even on moderate swings, you can feel the kick point boosting your club head speed.

The whole shaft feels very controlled as well. When we stood on this shaft, we didn’t lose track of the club head. If you’re comparing the Fujikura Atmos Black to typical graphite shafts, yes, it does lean slightly more on the stout side. However, it rewards you with a very smooth transition whether you swing out of your shoes or have a moderate swing speed.

Why is the Fujikura Atmos Black So Popular?

fujikura atmos black tour spec

The Fujikura Atmos Black gained a lot of popularity as the stock shaft for the successful Taylormade M6 driver.

But it has endured because of its versatility. One thing that really surprised us was that despite the varying swing speed of our testers, they were all getting very similar launch monitor figures.

How Does the Fujikura Atmos Black Perform?

Speaking of launch monitor figures, the Fujikura Atmos Black produced pretty much what we were expecting.

The Fujikura Atmos Black performs as advertised: it spins low and launches mid-low. Our average spin rate with the Fujikura Atmos Black was just a hair over 1800 RPMs and our launch angles stayed in the 11-13 degree range.

And this remained consistent despite who was swinging. Of course, you can expect more distance if you are a fast swinger but the launch angles and spin rates will remain consistent despite your swing speed. Speaking of distance, our average carry distance after three swings each was 257.9 yards. Is this the longest shaft we’ve ever tested? Not by a longshot. Was it one of the most consistent shafts we’ve tested? Absolutely.

As long as you don’t have a straight up slow swing speed, the Fujikura Atmos Black will reward you with piercing launch and a strong trajectory. We loved how quick the ball was getting up and out and how long it stayed in the air.

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

The Fujikura Atmos Black is available in regular, stiff and extra stiff flex.

Regular flex would be good for players in the 75-80 MPH swing speed range. Stiff would be good for 81-90 MPH swingers and extra stiff would suit 91-105 MPH swingers.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The Fujikura Atmos Black 65g would be good for 75-80 MPH swingers.

The 66g version is more for intermediate swing speeds in the 81-85 MPH range. The 67g version would likely work for players in the 86-95 MPH range.

Why is it So Good?

The Fujikura Atmos Black is a good shaft because it delivers classic Fujikura smoothness and it is consistent.

You know what you are going to get out of this shaft based on how you swing it. There are very few, if any, variables and it can benefit almost any kind of player.

Fujikura Atmos Black First Impressions

fujikura atmos black tour spec

We were a little concerned with how stout the Fujikura Atmos Black felt at first but we quickly realized that it doesn’t take much effort to activate it. At that point, we couldn;t get over how smooth it was no matter how hard we swung it.

Key Features & Performance

The Fujikura Atmos Black utilizes high modulus carbon fiber which we suspect is what gives it its slightly stout feel and flexibility.

Fujikura Atmos Black Driver Review

Off the tee, the Fujikura Atmos Black wants to fly straight. The Fujikura Atmos Black never produced an off-line divergence higher than 9 yards.

Fujikura Atmos Black Fairway Wood Review

The Fujikura Atmos Black works well with high and low lofted fairway woods. It still activates easily off the deck and the flight can be worked up or down.

Fujikura Atmos Black Pros & Cons

  • Smooth transition
  • Works with different swing speeds
  • Tight dispersion
  • Produces strong trajectory
  • On the expensive side

Who Should Buy it?

The Fujikura Atmos Black is great for moderate to fast swing speed players.

If you’re looking for pure distance, then you might want to look elsewhere despite the fact that the Fujikura Atmos Black produces good rollout distance. If however you prefer a smooth-feeling driver shaft that performs consistently, you will fall in love with the Fujikura Atmos Black.

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft

The Fujikura Atmos series of shafts has been lauded for its simple fitting.

The differences between the black, red and blue models can be reduced to launch: low, high and mid respectively. But there is more to the story with these shafts.

We know because we have tested all of them. For the following review though, we will be focusing specifically on the Fujikura Atmos Black shaft.

At a glance, it would appear that the Fujikura Atmos Black is the shaft in the Atmos family that is geared towards better players with stronger swings. But is that really the case? Let’s find out.

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Overview

The Fujikura Atmos Black has a torque rating of 4.2°.

So right off the bat, this isn’t the stoutest graphite shaft we have ever played; but the torque is still pretty low overall.

The feel of the Fujikura Atmos Black is actually pretty interesting. It has a relatively stiff tip but you still get a clear, modest kick in the midsection.

Another thing to note about the Fujikura Atmos Black is that it has the same butt stiffness profile as the Red and Blue Atmos shafts.

That was one of the main marketing points when these shafts first came out: that the butt profile across all three shafts was identical.

As advertised, the Fujikura Atmos Black shaft launches low. Our launch angles during testing stayed in the 11 – 13 degree range.

The feel is also very stable. Even on really powerful swings there was no whip or twisting. We experienced really acute control over the club head.

While the Fujikura Atmos Black didn’t feel as smooth as say, Ventus shafts, it wasn’t overly boardy.

Why is the Fujikura Atmos Black So Popular?

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft1

We think the Fujikura Atmos Black is a popular shaft because it can be gamed by strong swingers; but it doesn’t feel ridiculously heavy.

Even in the 80 gram weight class, the Fujikura Atmos Black feels manageable and fast in the hands.

How Does the Fujikura Atmos Black Perform?

We were very pleased with the launch monitor data we were getting while testing the Fujikura Atmos Black.

The performance was exactly in line with what we were expecting and what we predicted before breaking out the launch monitor.

The shot dispersion was especially pleasing. At no point did the off-line divergence exceed 11 yards. Our average carry distance after three swings apiece was 261.5 yards.

Rollout distance was also exceptional. It wasn’t abnormal for us to get rollouts of 12+ yards. Spin rates were also nice and low.

For the most part they stayed in the 1700 – 1900 RPM range. So it was no wonder we were getting such impressive carries – a low piercing trajectory will always pair well with low spin rates.

So yes, the Fujikura Atmos Black shaft is in fact a great shaft for better players with powerful swings.

You don’t have to swing outside of yourself to get good numbers though. We found that the Fujikura Atmos Black plays long whether you stand on it or reign your swing in a little.

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

The Fujikura Atmos Black shaft comes in regular, stiff and extra stiff flex.

Regular and stiff would be ideal for 80-90 MPH swingers. Extra stiff would be good for 90-95 MPH swingers.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The 60g and 70g weight class is more for 85-95 MPH swingers.

Extra stiff should be looked at by anyone swinging their driver faster than 95 MPH.

Why is it So Good?

For us, we loved the Fujikura Atmos Black because it produces really tight shot dispersion.

It will help you control your most powerful swings and help you rip the ball through the heart of the fairway.

Fujikura Atmos Black First Impressions

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft2

Our first impression was that the flight was pretty boring.

You can count on straight, low flight pretty much regardless of how you swing.

Key Features & Performance

The overall stiff profile of the Fujikura Atmos Black (except for the midsection) is what makes this shaft so controlled and precise.

The accuracy is exceptional and the distance is easy.

Fujikura Atmos Black Driver Review Review

Low spin rates and low launch in the driver are the hallmarks of the performance of this shaft.

It’s great for strong swingers.

Fujikura Atmos Black Fairway Wood Review

Off the deck you get the same straight stability and club head control. Naturally, launch will be a bit higher; but still controlled.

Fujikura Atmos Black Pros & Cons

Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft

  • Great for fast swing speeds
  • Very accurate
  • Great club head control
  • Good rollout
  • Not the silkiest transition we have ever felt

Overall Score: 96/100

Fujikura Atmos Black 6 Vs Fujikura Atmos Black 7

If you are looking for even tighter dispersion and your swing speed is above 90 MPH, the Fujikura Atmos Black 7 may be a better choice for you.

For this review, we tested the Fujikura Atmos Black 6. The main difference is weight; but you also get slightly better workability in the Fujikura Atmos Black 7.

The kick in the Fujikura Atmos Black 7 is definitely more muted however. So if you want/need a more lively feel in the midsection of your driver shaft, the Fujikura Atmos Black 6 might serve you better.

Who Should Buy it?

The Fujikura Atmos Black shaft is definitely for the powerful swinger who has little to no trouble making consistent contact on full swings.

And if you have an aggressive transition, the Fujikura Atmos Black will help tame it and keep your ball on-line. By far, the thing we liked about this shaft was the tight dispersion.

So if boring flight also appeals to you, you will love the Fujikura Atmos Black.

Fujikura launches new Atmos Tour Spec shafts on PGA Tour

fujikura atmos black tour spec

Fujikura’s new Atmos Tour Spec shafts made their official debut on the PGA Tour last week, where several players were testing them in their metal woods.

C1vhFaBVEAAwvF7

The new shafts are “designed and developed for the tour,” according to Fujikura, and distinct because of their “flighted” design. They’re available in three different models and will sell for $300 each when they’re released on March 1.

Fujikura describes the Atmos Tour Spec shafts as “flighted” because of their progressive construction, which seeks to help golfers optimize their performance with each of their metal woods. Each Atmos Tour Spec shaft is designed with the same flex in its handle section, giving all three shafts a similar feel, but the construction of each model’s mid and tip sections are different to create three distinct trajectories.

  • Atmos Tour Spec Red: Highest-launching Atmos shaft
  • Atmos Tour Spec Blue: Middle-launching Atmos shaft
  • Atmos Tour Spec Black: Lowest-launching Atmos shaft

The Atmos Tour Spec Black has the stiffest mid and tip sections to create the lowest trajectory, while the Atmost Tour Spec Red has the softest mid and tip sections to create the highest trajectory. The Atmos Tour Spec Blue fills the middle ground.

C10sRhmVEAA1_LK

More weights and flexes will be available for PGA Tour players to test this week at the Career Builder Challenge in La Quinta, Calif. The shafts will also be available for golfers to test at the PGA Merchandise Show January 24-27 in Orlando, Fla.

TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver Copper: Leveraging 90s nostalgia

fujikura atmos black tour spec

TaylorMade is leaning in even further to the retro vibes with the 2024 edition of its BRNR Mini Driver.

Patterned after the Carlsbad-based company’s iconic late 1990s Burner driver design, the 2024 BRNR Mini features similar copper styling and a retro version of the TaylorMade logo.

fujikura atmos black tour spec

Featuring the same technology as its 2023 BRNR Mini Driver, the 2024 edition continues to play the hits that saw the unique club land in the bag of tour pros, such as Tommy Fleetwood and Jake Knapp.

  • Check out details on the technology in our 2023 BRNR launch story.
  • See more in-hand photos and read what GolfWRXers are saying in the forums.

Why play a mini driver?

In general, TaylorMade finds two types of golfers gravitate toward a mini driver. In the first case, it’s an addition to a standard driver: Players looking for a “fairway finder” driver without giving up too much distance that can also be hit off the deck. Second, TaylorMade recommends giving a mini a go to golfers who struggle to hit 460 cc drivers, particularly choppers. It’s a better alternative than a 3-wood off the tee.

Tommy Fleetwood’s endorsement of playing a mini driver

“For me, if I HAD to hit a fairway, I’m more comfortable hitting a driver than a 3-wood. I would tee the driver down, and I would hit a little cut, or a neck-y cut in the fairway. The 3-wood isn’t for that. The 3-wood, generally, is a pretty hot club that I’ll hit from 270 or 280 in the fairway on a par 5. You get some courses where a 3-wood is not always necessary. [With the BRNR] you put a normal swing on it, and I’m more comfortable hitting it straight. It’s a replacement for a 3-wood, basically.”

Pricing, specs, availability

TaylorMade’s new BRNR Mini Driver Copper clubs will sell for $449.99 in 11.5 (RH/LH) and 13.5 (RH) degree options, and they will be available for custom orders.

A month ago I was fitted at Titleist Manchester Lane for 917 woods:

917 D3 - Motor Tour Spec 6.2X playing 45" and standard tipping

917 F3 - Motor Tour Spec 8.2X playing 42.5" and tipped 1.5"

When I went to order the above shafts, Titleist informed me that they have transitioned away from the Tour Spec 8.2X. My fitter recommended the ATMOS Black 8TX playing 42.5" and standard tipping.

I do not know much about the new ATMOS line, however, my fitter said the new ATMOS Black is extremely comparable. After searching through the forums here, I'm looking for any insight on how the two might compare.

I actually just recently asked via an email to Fujikura a similar question. They recommended the ATMOS Black X versions also. I was coming from a Tour Spec 7.2 S in my driver. However, I have not had a chance to hit the Black yet.

A month ago I was fitted at Titleist Manchester Lane for 917 woods:   917 D3 - Motor Tour Spec 6.2X playing 45" and standard tipping 917 F3 - Motor Tour Spec 8.2X playing 42.5" and tipped 1.5"   When I went to order the above shafts, Titleist informed me that they have transitioned away from the Tour Spec 8.2X. After searching through the forums here, I'm looking for any insight on how the two might compare.

Very very similar to those models I played both those shafts and switched to the Atmos. Playing a 7tx 44.5” driver not tipped in epic sub zero and 8tx in sub zero 15 at 42.5” also not tipped in the fairway wood.

Performance wise very similar to the ts but as far as feel way better they really “kick/pop” through impact. Really really great shafts. Sorry don’t have numbers from the 6.2 ts I was playing to the atmos black, but very similar just much better feel which gave me better consistency.

Went from 45” to 44.5”, which is why I went from 6.2 in the ts to 7tx in the atmos. I would watch how much you tip them I’ve heard the really firm up, but I don’t have much experience on that. I was fit by a fujikura charter dealer and the ball flight with the 8tx in the fairway was perfect so we did tip it. I don’t think fujikura recommends tipping for 3 woods but in hind sight I probably would have done 1/2”.

I’m not sure how you load or how fast you swing but I’m around 118 - 120 max for reference.

Thank you for the feedback. I was surprised that my fitter had the fairway wood tipped with a tour spec and not with the ATMOS. After hearing from you, this seems to make a little more sense. If my driver had regular tipping with the tour spec, what would make the ATMOS play similarly?

P.S. I emailed the same question to Fujikura and will update when I hear a response.

MakersMarsh3

Most recent Fuji shafts are no tipping for fairways i believe. But you can still tip them!

lead tape & Taylormade TP5X's

My guess would be 1/2” but I play them short and add weight to the head to get back to normal swing weight. But I’ll be interested to hear their response.

Update straight from Chad at Fujikura:

"Without question you are getting sound advice. That is the direct replacement for the Motore Speeder 8.2 Tour Spec. I think you will do very well with the Atmos."

I replied back with questions on tipping. I will post that response as well.

"We do not recommend tip trimming either of these for driver or three wood. Tip trimming would be at your club makers discretion."

Gtyler14

I have a black 8x in my 5 wood and I tipped it 1/2 and it plays about 41.5 and it is perfect. These shafts don’t need to be tipped much if any but the black line is a great shaft.

SHAFT TIP TRIMMING

The following tip trimming instructions are suggestions only.  We generally do not recommend tip trimming on a driver or 3 wood shafts based on the shaft composition and how tipping could affect performance. We recommend that you consult your custom fitter or club-builder for the best tip trimming suggestions based on your individual swing and desired results.

In general, tip trimming can be used to achieve a stiffer shaft profile, lower launch, and/or lower spin. Tip trimming 1?is equivalent to one flex.  For example, if you wanted to stiffen your S flex to an X flex then you would tip trim 1?. If you prefer to play shaft in between S and X flex, you would tip trim 1/2?.

Best Blackberry Moscow Mule Recipes

Mar 05, 2020

In this post, we reveal the best Blackberry Moscow Mule recipes on the internet! We also describe the origin and history of the Blackberry Mule so that you can fully appreciate the cocktail. Let's dive right in!

Introduction

When you think of cocktails, there are usually a couple of different places your mind can go: the sugary, overpriced, watered-down drink you paid an embarrassing amount of money for at the nearest semi-swanky nighttime establishment, or the tasty-but-sloppy concoction your friend threw together in their blender. Of course, there are varying degrees of quality within those categories: some overpriced bar cocktails can taste like a slice of heaven, and your friend could be surprisingly adept at mixing drinks together. But, by and large, those appear to be the most common experiences for a lot of cocktail enthusiasts out in the wild: weak, expensive, convoluted, sub-par.

Why is that? Why do so many cocktails fall so short of the Platonic ideal of what a delicious cocktail should be? Well, there are a number of potential reasons, chief among them being the fact that a lot of cocktail recipes appear to be in a constant battle to come up with the most complicated recipe, throwing together a huge amount of ingredients that may or may not actually gel together as a whole. Nothing worse than a cocktail that tastes like it’s being pulled in ten different directions at the same time. Add to this the bar’s need to make a profit (which affects the price and the quality of ingredients) and the home mixologist’s innate need to show off to their friends by putting together the most elaborate drink (which affects the structural integrity) and what you end up with is often a less than ideal cocktail experience.

But then there are some drinks that are so beautifully perfect in their simplicity that it’s hard to mess them up; where the ingredients list is very brief and each element interacts perfectly with each other. Stone-cold classics of the alcoholic-beverage tradition. We’re talking about iconic drinks that have stood the test of time over the years, and whose simplicity has actually served as the ideal springboard for creativity in coming up with new twists on the original recipe. And, in this particular case, a drink that has traditionally been consumed in its own iconic container: a copper mug. That’s right; we’re talking about the venerable Moscow Mule .

copper mug with lime wedged on the rim moisture on the exterior

You’re probably familiar with the classic Moscow Mule by now -- if not, you’ve likely seen them at gatherings or in pop culture, in their eye-catching presentation. It is an extremely straightforward and delicious cocktail that is just about impossible to get wrong, containing three main ingredients. And because these ingredients complement each other so perfectly, the Moscow Mule has become the drink of choice for a lot of amateur mixologists who want to impress their guests without navigating long and complicated recipes. A Moscow Mule is as refreshing as it is easy to make, containing ginger beer, vodka, and lime juice. But there’s more to the Mule than that.

You see, Moscow Mules kicked off a bit of a trend; as the popularity of the drink spread across the land, so did regional variants start popping up. Because the original recipe is so straightforward, there’s a lot of room for creativity and playing around with different flavors and textures, giving way to a whole new world of options. Most of these variations did one simple thing: swap out the spirit for a different one. So, for instance, a Mexican Mule would be a Moscow Mule with the vodka replaced by tequila, a Kentucky Mule would be a Moscow Mule using Kentucky bourbon, and so on and so forth. But some variations of the Moscow Mule did something different instead of swapping out ingredients: they added something to the mix.

The Blackberry Moscow Mule

wooden box filled with blackberries close up view

Enter the Blackberry Moscow Mule, one of our favorite variations of this cocktail. Can you guess what is different about this version of the Mule? That’s right: it adds a whole other layer of flavor and texture by incorporating blackberries. This extremely refreshing and delightfully sweet drink makes for a fantastic summer companion, especially out in the sun with some friends. The kick of the ginger beer, the brightness of the lime juice, and the slight tartness of the blackberries all work together to make this drink a unique experience.

And though it sounds very simple from the description above, there are actually a few different ways to make the Blackberry Moscow Mule. Let’s talk about some of them, and what our personal choice is for the best Blackberry Moscow Mule recipe.

Classic Blackberry Moscow Mule Recipe

Let’s start with the most traditional Blackberry Moscow Mule recipe, which, as you might expect, is also the most straightforward one. This is the basic Moscow Mule recipe with the added element of the blackberries.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large, plump blackberries, or 8 smaller ones
  • 6 ounces ginger beer
  • 1.5 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 ounces vodka

Instructions:

  • Place a glass (or, preferably, the traditional Moscow Mule copper mug !) in the freezer until it’s frosty.
  • In a different glass, muddle the blackberries. Feel free to add in a small sprig of mint for some extra brightness.
  • Add in the ginger beer, vodka, and lime juice.
  • Strain the liquid into the frosty mug or glass.
  • Garnish with more blackberries, mint, and lime.

This cocktail is best served ice cold, which is why we chill our mug before mixing. The best thing about a cocktail this simple is that it’s very easy to customize, meaning that, if you like it a bit stronger, all you have to do is adjust the alcohol levels accordingly. Similarly, if you’re a big fan of blackberries, feel free to add more!

Mint is not an obligatory ingredient here -- your Blackberry Moscow Mule will be delicious without it. But we have found that adding in a small sprig of mint really kicks the whole mixture up a notch, adding a touch of herbal brightness to the mix of flavors and textures you’re putting together. Of course, some people aren’t fans of mint in their cocktails, so feel free to leave it out altogether.

The recipe above uses fresh muddled blackberries which are mixed with the rest of the ingredients and strained into the icy copper mug. This will get you the smoothest version of the drink, since you’re leaving out all the solids. But if you’re the kind of person who likes to have a little chewy treat at the bottom of their drink, you could also muddle the blackberries in the mug itself and pour the rest of the ingredients into it.

To do this, simply place the blackberries and lime juice in the bottom of your ice-cold copper mug. Then squash the berries to release their juice. Add the vodka and ginger beer on top of that, and stir to combine. That’s it!

This saves you the step of straining the mixture, and also takes full advantage of the texture that the blackberries bring to the Blackberry Moscow Mule. On top of that, you get to eat the blackberries at the bottom of the mug once you’re done with the drink.

Moscow Mule with Blackberry Syrup Recipe

Some Blackberry Moscow Mule recipes go the extra mile to really bring the blackberry flavor forward by incorporating other elements. For example, some recipes call for making your own homemade blackberry syrup to add to the mix. If you like your drink a little sweeter than most and you want to make the cocktail’s blackberry flavor significantly more intense, this could be the best version of the Blackberry Moscow Mule for you.

So, how would we go about making that syrup?

  • 2.5 cups water
  • 1.5 cup sugar
  • 2 cups blackberries
  • Put water, sugar, and blackberries over medium-high heat, bring them to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and let simmer 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and mash berries. Make sure to mash thoroughly so as to get as much syrup out as you can.
  • Allow to cool 20 minutes. Bottle up and store until ready to use.

If you go this route, you end up with a more concentrated blackberry flavor that is also considerably sweeter due to the added sugar. To put the cocktail together:

  • Combine room-temperature blackberry syrup and vodka. Make sure neither of them are chilled, as the syrup won’t incorporate as well if either is cold. Add in the lime juice.
  • Once incorporated, pour the mixture over ice into a copper mule mug.
  • Top with ginger beer and lime juice. Fresh blackberry garnish optional.

This version of the drink makes for an entirely different experience. It’s very sweet and definitely loses some of its breezy refreshing qualities, while also being a little more intense and perhaps even more festive. We can see these drinks working well in different contexts, or perhaps even different seasons of the year; while the original recipe is a summery, outdoors drink, we definitely envision the version that incorporates syrup as more of an indoor party drink, perhaps even suited for a holiday gathering in the winter.

Whichever version you choose to go with, the Blackberry Moscow Mule is a delicious twist on the classic cocktail that you’re going to love. And with a recipe this simple, it’s near impossible to mess up!

This tour gives you a unique perspective of a little bit of everything in 3 or 5 hours: must-see tourist sights, local hangouts, Russian food, a glimpse of the modern Moscow life, amazing photo opportunities, a bit of Russian history, and a lot of fun!

This is a great opportunity to cut the usual all day tour down to only 3 or 5 hours and get the most out of the city while having fun and being fit in the greatest locations around Moscow!

A bike trip is sure to capture your heart. It enables you to see the heart of Moscow within the Boulevard Ring and to explore some non-touristic areas of the city, to get an image of the city centre and to work out at the same time.

Our tours differ and depend on whether you are interested in city scenery or nature-like landscape. A variety of places in Moscow are great for riding a bike: these are large parks, yards with old mansions, and historical streets in the centre.

Let’s see what’s waiting for you!

Description

Additional information.

  • Reviews (0)

New for 2017, the ATMOS Tour Spec line is geared towards the performance golfer looking to keep the ball flighted down with low spin.

Continuing with our iconic “Tour Spec white” paint, ATMOS is a true tour flighted line of shafts with a simple color coding –  red as the higher launching ,  blue as mid launch ,  black as the lowest launch  – similarities include keeping the handle flexes the same for feel, but adjusting mid and tip sections for launch and spin to achieve your desired ball flight.

ATMOS Tour Spec is the culmination of key learnings from more than two decades of tour-driven products. The development of ATMOS Tour Spec was an extensive process by which critical player feedback and fitting needs were at the forefront. Recognizing that Tour professionals need to keep the ball flighted down with low spin and that these players have a variety of different swing types and clubhead combinations, it was essential to engineer a variety of options to optimize performance.

  8. Fujikura Atmos Black Shaft Review

The Fujikura Atmos Black has a torque rating of 4.2°. So right off the bat, this isn't the stoutest graphite shaft we have ever played; but the torque is still pretty low overall.
