Graphite Designs Tour AD DI Shaft Review

Mitsubishi Diamana Putter Shaft

50 Words or Less

The Graphite Designs Tour AD DI shaft feels great and put up some spectacular numbers.  Easy to see why it’s such a hit on the PGA Tour.

Check out the low launch, low spin Tour AD VF HERE

Introduction

The goal of any manufacturer is to build hype around their product organically.  Smothering the consumer with ads is fine, but it’s nothing compared to the consumer seeing all of their friends talking about and using a product.  That latter scenario is what seemed to happen overnight with the Graphite Designs Tour AD DI shaft.

From Charles Howell III to Tiger Woods to Adam Scott, it felt like every PGA Tour pro was playing the orange “Deep Impact,” and every forum was chattering about it.  The momentum continues to the 2016-2017 season as Hideki Matsuyama uses one in his driver to stack up wins.  We put this tour-proven shaft through the paces to see how it performs for those of us without PGA Tour swings.

Love the AD DI but want something new?  Check out the Graphite Design Tour AD UB HERE

Graphite Designs has a formula for the graphics of their Tour AD shafts, and the DI doesn’t vary from it.  It’s primarily one solid color with some rings in the mid-butt area and very simple graphics .  While some of the colors are bold, the graphics are no nonsense.

Unlike most of their line up, the AD DI does come in two flavors: black and the signature orange .  Go stealth or stand out, the choice is yours.

Somehow I missed out on the AD DI craze a couple years ago, but after one swing I immediately understood what all the fuss was about.  This shaft has a tremendous kick to it, but it never feels out of control.  The company’s description is “Medium” in the butt and mid and “Stiff” in the tip, which matches my assessment exactly.  You get a smooth, powerful kick through impact, but the tip doesn’t feel loose or torque-y, even on mishits.

As an aside, kudos to Graphite Designs for taking all the voodoo out of shaft descriptions.  For each of their shafts, they describe the butt, mid, and tip sections on a scale that ranges from “Very Stiff” to “Soft.”  This makes it easy to figure out what you might like and what you want to try next.

Performance

When I love the feel of a shaft, chances are its going to perform well for me.  That was certainly the case with the Graphite Designs AD DI.

I started my testing with the stiff flex version of the AD DI.  The smooth kick made me feel like I was delivering effortless power to the ball, and the results were very solid.  When I bumped up to the X flex, things got even better.  The kick was slightly less pronounced, as you’d expect, but the consistency of the results was through the roof.  Every shot was near the center of the face, and the monitor was showing the same push-draw time after time .

For players who haven’t hit Graphite Designs shafts and can’t make use of their feel chart, I would say that the AD DI is a mix of the Diamana Blue and White shafts.  It has the smooth feel and pronounced kick of the blue with the strong tip of the white.  For me, that adds up to great consistency with tremendous feel .

graphite-designs-ad-di_0033

Prior to this review, my experience with  Graphite Designs  shafts had been minimal, but now the AD DI is making a serious push to go in the bag.  It blends some of the best attributes of my favorite shafts, and the performance simply can’t be argued with.  Waiting to get this into play is just one more reason that this winter is going to feel really long.

First of all, I thank you for your website. Passionate about golf and about gear of golf , you are for me , the website number one on the subject .

I particularly appreciated your review of the ADDI shaft. GRAPHITE DESIGN being one of my favorite trademarks. I hope that others tests of the range are going to follow. Thank you again ! Excuse-me for my broken English. Patrick

Hey Matt, always enjoy reading your reviews. This GD Tour AD DI is a shaft I keep hearing about and seeing in clubs over the years. It was no surprise to hear you were impressed by it, but it was really interesting to see that you were concentrating on the proper flex for yourself(S vs. XS). With that said, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Stiff shaft. I know you will ultimately fall back on getting fit….understood. But given what you experienced for yourself, which appeared to be that you need the XS shaft for your swing speed to maximize accuracy, what would you venture the S flex would be good for in terms of swing speed? Assuming a smooth swing and 102-103 mph….S flex? Once again, I know a fitting is absolutely a must, but what swing speed range do you think might benefit best from the S flex AD DI shaft?

' src=

The thing that impressed me about the AD DI is that I could have been very happy playing the S, I just preferred the shot shape with the X. The S is also so smooth, I think it could work all the way down to, perhaps 95 MPH. Around 100 MPH is probably the sweet spot.

' src=

Matt, surprised it has taken so long to try out this iconic shaft. I am 100 SS and the GD DI 60 Stiff is the shaft I keep coming back to. Best feel yet never seems overpowered. Also agreed with the comment that it sits between the Diamana Blue and White. More stable than the Blue and more feel than the White.

And if you want that next level of stiffness / low ball flight try the BB. I noticed Kaymer just moved from DI to BB in driver, but kept DI in other woods. It also comes in Black which I think was a special order/ request from Adam Scott a few years back.

First of all I thank you for your site !

For me you are the number one ! I particularly appreciated your review of the ADDI ; GD being one of my favorites trademarks I hope that others tests of the range are going to follow

thank you again Patrick ( paris)

We will have a review of the AD TP coming soon and hopefully more to follow after that. Any models in particular that you’re interested in?

Thank you Matt !

a review of the AD TP would be perfect ! AD MT too !

' src=

Thanks, Matt. As it is often said the shaft is the “engine” of the club and the key to proper fitting. For us mere mortals, may I presume that this shaft also comes in a “Regular” form for slower swing speeds? Thanks again. Steve

Yes, it’s available in R2 (senior) through X.

' src=

I have the AD DI-7s shaft in my TaylorMade 2017 M2 3 wood. It’s the best club I’ve ever owned. My swing speed is around 105mph, yet I feel as if however hard I swing with this shaft, it just copes and continues to deliver. The feel is exquisite. Now all I have to do is see if I can find a driver to put this shaft into!

' src=

Hi Matt, I have just purchased a Ping G400 Max Driver…Reg stock stand.shaft. I am 70 yo on 18 h/c. Would I benefit from fitting an Ad Di Shaft ? In a regular form. My swing speed is around 90 to100. Can I buy in Australia?

I’m not sure who distributes Graphite Design in Australia.

There’s no inherent reason why the AD DI would be better than the stock PING shaft. The only way it would be better is if it’s a better fit for your swing, which you could find out by working with a high quality club fitter.

' src=

Love the podcast!

Are these averages from the S or X flex?

This was a while back but I believe the X was the better fit.

' src=

What was your ball flight with the S?

I’m not going to be able to reliably tell you any more than is in the review, this was written quite a while back.

' src=

Great review. How would you compare this shaft to the Tensei series? Also, in the past have you ever put together a shaft comparison chart?

There are a lot of different profiles in the Tensei series, but overall both the Tensei and Graphite Designs shafts are consistent and high quality. I have not put together a shaft comparison chart because we encourage everyone to be fit.

' src=

Hi Matt, I have the choice of the Di 60g stiff or VENTUS Black 6 60g in New St200 G, VENTUS is newer to market, what do you think.?

I would suggest getting fit and finding the best option for your swing. If you want to know what fits my swing, you can see my WITB here: https://pluggedingolf.com/about/matt-saternus/matts-whats-in-the-bag/

' src=

Hey Matt, Hopefully you still remember the feel of this shaft since it was reviewed a number of years ago…. In the review you stated that the feel was somewhere between Diamana BF and DF. Now I am curious to know whether the feel of the AD DI is similar to the Diamana ZF in your experience since the ZF is considered to be in between DF and BF regarding feel. I know you did the review on the ZF already but maybe I am just looking for a confirmation. Hope you can answer my question, thanks!

Overall, yes, they’re somewhat similar.

' src=

would you recommend AD_D1 7x for a senior who’s swing speed is down?

A 70 gram X flex is not something I would recommend for someone whose speed is going down, unless it’s going down from a truly elite level.

' src=

Are you able to share what head(s) you had conducted this shaft review with? As always appreciate you and plugged in.

Thanks, Mike

I always test with my gamer, the PING G425 Max.

' src=

I demoed the DI-6s with a fitter a while back and he thought it was my best fit from what we had available. However my club head SS is only mid, maybe high 90s, which according to GD suggests a stiff- regular. The fitter doesn’t have a SR with a Ping tip to demo. I’m playing a Ping tour 65 stiff ok right now but the DI was better.

If anything, the DI-6 stiff plays smoother/less demanding than the Ping tour stiff, true? Apparently the DI-6s might play ok down to mid 90s as you mentioned? Otoh worst case, a stiff-regular wouldn’t be flimsy, true?

Thanks for any thoughts…$370 shaft, good grief:-)

Yes, I think the AD-DI will feel softer/smoother than the PING Tour in the same flex. Personally, I would be hesitant to buy anything I hadn’t tested, especially for $370. If you thought the stiff felt good and it worked well, I would stick with that rather than taking a chance on the SR.

' src=

Does anyone have experience with the 105x hybrid/driving iron shaft? Thoughts? Is it “too stiff”?

' src=

Good morning! I wanted to see if you could share a thought or two comparing the Tour AD DI vs the Ventus TR Red. Thanks

I have a full review of the Ventus TR Red here: https://pluggedingolf.com/fujikura-ventus-tr-red-shaft-review/

Graphite Design Tour Ad Di 6 vs. 7: Which Shaft to Choose?

When searching for one of the most popular and selling shafts, Graphite Design Tour will come up in the top position. Two of their popular shafts are Di 6 and 7. So, what is the difference between graphite design tour ad di 6 vs 7?

The first and one of the most key differences between these two shafts is the launch angle; Graphite Design Tour Ad di 6 have a high launch angle compared to the mid-high of the Di 7.

This is just one of the differences between these shafts, and there are a few more we need to talk about. So, keep on reading to learn about all the differences between them.

Graphite Design Tour Ad Di 6 vs. 7

Overview Of graphite design tour ad di 6 shafts

More strength and stability are provided by the Tour AD DI 6 shaft. The shaft’s tip part was created by incorporating the latest nanomaterial tech from Toray .

Every player will be able to have an enormous influence on ball speed while still exhibiting excellent feel and control thanks to this innovation.

Overview Of graphite design tour ad di 7 shafts

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7 shafts have a similar design lineup as other tour AD DI shafts.

But, the Tour AD DI 7’s mid bend shape enables optimum shaft loading while maintaining a stiff solid tip portion during impact.

This will produce the best possible low spin and mid to high launch characteristics. Additionally, the Graphite Design Tour AD DI will therefore take players’ shaft performance to a whole new level.

Graphite design tour ad di 6 vs 7: Comparison Table

In our comparison table below, you can see all the primary differences between the AD DI 6 and 7 shafts. Keep on reading to know more.

What Are The Differences Between Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6 and 7

You have already seen the basic differences between these two shafts. Now, we will break down these differences in full detail. This complete comparison will help you make the final decision more quickly.

Flex Option

AD DI 6 & 7 flex

The first difference between the AD DI 6 and 7 shafts is the choice of flex. AD DI 6 offers three different types of flex; Regular, Stiff, and X-Stiff and AD DI 7 has two flex options: Stiff and X-Stiff.

The quicker your swing, the stronger the flex you require, as golf shafts bend according to how quick your club speed is. So, you should select the shaft based on the sort of swing you have.

AD DI 6 is required if you desire regular flex, which means you have a slower swing speed. However, you can pick either of the shafts if you need stiff or X-stiff.

Weight

Another common difference between these two shafts is the different weight options they offer.

The AD DI 6 shaft has lower weight options; of 64, 65, 67, and 68.5 grams, and the AD DI 7 shaft has comparatively higher weight options of 74, 75, and 77 grams.

Your swing path is improved with a heavier shaft and you use more muscle when you play with a heavier shaft.

The route of the shaft on the downswing should originate from within the aiming reticle for every 10 grams of weight.

However, using a heavier shaft might be challenging for beginners. Therefore, you should determine the shaft weight based on whether you are a beginner or a professional player.

Launch angle

Even though the difference in the launch is not that significant between these two shafts. It is still important as even the slightest difference in launch can play a huge role in overall ball flight and distance.

There are Mid High launch angle choices for both AD DI 6 and AD DI 7. The Mid choice will keep the ball somewhat lower off the tee, while the Mid-High option will help gain a bit extra height underneath the ball.

However, the AD DI 6 also has a High option. While the AD DI 7 has a Mid option. Conversely, a high launch driver enables golfers with slower swings to produce soaring shots for maximal carry distance.

Therefore, you may choose the shaft that is best for you based on where you want the impact to be.

Spin

Spin is another important consideration while selecting the shaft. Different shafts offer different types of spin, and the same goes between AD DI 6 and AD DI 7.

The AD DI 6 shaft offers two different spin options; Low Mid and Low, and the AD DI 7 shaft offers low spin only. The low mid spin has a slightly higher spin than the low spin.

Generally, a low-spin driver can lower your spin rates resulting in a more piercing launching if your swing speed is quick and your ball rises in the air.

Read Also: Kirkland Putter vs Scotty Cameron: Here Is The Better One to Choose

A machine that measures shaft torque tracks how much a shaft will twist in response to a specific quantity of force and does so in degrees.

Depending on what type of flex you choose, these two shafts also have a difference in torque.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7 has torque in the range of 3.1-3.2 degrees compared to the 3.3-3.4 degrees of the AD DI 6 shaft. So, when playing shot, the AD DI 7 will have less twisting than the AD DI 6.

Graphite design tour ad di 6 or 7: Which Golf shaft To choose?

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6 and 7 are both excellent golf shafts and among the highest sold shafts worldwide.

Thus, selecting a clear winner between them isn’t an easy task. It all depends on what your requirements are.

If you are looking for a shaft with a heavier weight for more carry and low spin only, then the AD DI 7 is the one to go for.

However, if you want a shaft with more flex options, low mid and low spin, then the AD DI 6 shaft is the one to go for.

Read Also:   Wedge Swing vs Iron Swing: Here Is The Difference You Need

Down below, we will discuss all the faqs related to our today’s discussion comparing AD DI 6 and 7 shafts.

Does AD DI 6 have a higher torque than AD DI 7?

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6 has a higher torque than the AD DI 7. So, it means that the AD DI 6 shaft will have more twisting than the DI 7 shaft under pressure. Generally, the lower the torque, the less amount of twisting will be faced by the shaft.

AD DI 6 Vs AD Di 7 which has a higher weight?

Both of these shafts come with different weight options; the AD DI 6 offers four different options, and AD DI 7 offers three different weight options. But in comparison, the AD DI 7 shaft has a higher weight range than the other option.

Are AD DI 6 and AD DI 7 both beginner friendly shafts

Both of these shafts are beginner friendly shafts as they are made from premium materials. They are very durable and less prone to breaking. However, as the AD DI 7 has a higher weight, it can be a bit difficult for beginners to control compared to the AD DI 6.

Graphite Designs AD DI Shaft - Review

DI (1).JPG

Introduction

This is the shaft that Tiger Woods uses in his driver. What more introduction is necessary…it must be awesome, right? There's no question that the Graphite Designs AD-DI shaft has been among the most-hyped, most-loved shafts on the golf forums and blogs for the last year or so. But does it live up to the hype...and the sticker price? Read on to find out.

DI (2).JPG

Notes, Feel, and Miscellaneous

The AD-DI is billed as a mid-kick, high-launch, low-spin shaft. The feel is definitely stout. If you don't bring ample club head speed, or an aggressive transition, you probably won't feel a lot of kick. That stout feel is likely why it's such a hit among the faster swingers.

One thing I did really like about the AD-DI was the balance. The weight of the AD-DI is very evenly distributed so that it doesn't feel heavy in the hands or at the tip.

As usual, the test shaft here was a 70gram model in stiff flex. The AD-DI is offered in weights of 50, 60, 70, and 80 grams, with flexes anywhere from senior to X-Stiff.

Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't say something about the looks. While there really aren't any kind of graphics on the shaft, the orange color is an eye-catcher. If you play this shaft because you want people to know what it is, you will definitely get your money's worth.

DI (3).JPG

Performance

Since it's freezing here in Chicago, the Performance section only includes launch monitor testing for this review. For the launch monitor testing, I put the AD-DI up against my Matrix RUL, both in an R9 460 9.5 head. I hit 10 “good” shots with each shaft, changing frequently so that fatigue was not an issue, nor did I get grooved with one shaft to the detriment of fairness. I went through this process three times and averaged the sets of data. I did the testing of the AD-DI at the same time as the testing of the AD-DJ and G Series, so all three sets of data can be compared.

For anyone interested in the swing that produces these numbers: my clubhead speed is usually between 100MPH and 110MPH, my biggest problem is getting quick from the top.

One other note of importance: I have recently gained access to a much more accurate launch monitor. As a result, the “baseline” numbers of the RUL may be different than what you have seen before. Finally, while I believe that the new launch monitor is one of the best in the industry for accuracy, I do think that it gets a little crazy with the roll. As such, my low spinning shots result in really long total distances that I don't typically get here in the Midwest.

*Each metric shows low, average, and high.

RUL: Ball speed: 152 Distance: 267-291-327 Launch Angle: 10.3-12.5-15

Backspin: 1851-2651-3026 Sidespin: 100 Dispersion: 10L-5L-10R

AD-DI: Ball speed: 149 Distance: 268-295-318 Launch Angle: 12.3-15.5-16.7

Backspin: 1500-2152-2900 Sidespin : 300 Dispersion: 5L-10R-30R

Right off the bat I'll say that this shaft is probably a bit too stout for me. I don't consider myself a smooth swinger, but my transition isn't aggressive enough, nor my swing speed high enough, to consistently get a good load out of this shaft. That fact goes a long way towards explaining some of the numbers such as lower ball speed, higher side spin, and worse dispersion (the latter two being a result of over-swinging in an attempt to load the shaft). Frankly, the fact that the dispersion wasn't worse is a credit to the AD-DI.

Most importantly, the shaft does deliver on its promise of high-launch/low-spin: the average launch angle was higher than the RUL and the average backspin was significantly lower. The result was a longer average shot even though the ball speed was down.

Finally, it should always be considered that (until further notice) the RUL is going to make a lot of shafts look bad by comparison. The fact that the AD-DI did not perform as well for me does not mean it couldn't be a better shaft for someone else.

DI (4).JPG

At $380, the Graphite Designs AD-DI is at the very high end of shafts. While on one hand, I'm a bit aghast that shafts are now breaking through the $300 price barrier, there's a part of me that says, “In for a penny, in for a pound.” AS ALWAYS: go get fit. There's no value in a shaft that doesn't perform for you …even if Tiger plays it.

DI (5).JPG

Regardless of the sticker price, the Graphite Designs AD-DI does do what it claims to do: high launch with low spin. Furthermore, the dispersion was pretty darned impressive given that I was swinging from my heels trying to make it work for me. For those of you with super aggressive transitions or tons of swing speed, the AD-DI might be the cure for your high-spin blues.

REVIEW: Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft

gd tour ad di 6 review

This shaft was available for some time, at least to tour players, but didn’t really makes its splash until TW put it in play for his first tournament back after his 5 month indiscretion induced vacation.  While Tiger didn’t win the tournament, he had decent driving statistics for that week.

But again, just because a big name player put this shaft in play, doesn’t mean the rest of us can hit it.  This shaft however will appeal to many players, both low handicaps and even higher handicaps.  It is not a super low launch, no spin shaft that most golfers can’t get off the ground, but this is a mid/high launch shaft with low spin.

So some of the basics; it is an orange and white shaft with just a touch of Irish green on the bands.  It comes in a number of different weight and flex options.  I did the DI-7s in an I-mix tip.  Now typically I play a stiff flex, but Graphite designs shafts always seem to run a touch soft, so I tipped mine an extra ½”.  It worked out very well.

One area that Graphite design has always been known for is their incredibly smooth feeling.  The DI was no different.  It has a great controlled smooth feeling from start to finish.  There was no whippy feeling or loose feeling, but not even a touch of boardiness.  It just felt like you knew where the shaft was and what it was doing for the entire swing.

On the course I found this to be long and straight with highball flight yet low spin for roll out.  I had great confidence in this shaft and it resulted in long accurate drives.

Graphite Design set the bar high with the name, and delivered excellent results.  This really does have deep impact on the ball and where it lands so far down the fairway.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft

The Tour AD DI Hybrid shaft boasts some of the same technologies as shafts produced by more well-known brands.

It has a lot to offer…for the right kind of player. Are you a good fit for this hybrid graphite/carbon fiber shaft?

Find out as I tell you about my experience testing the Tour AD DI.

Tour AD DI Shaft Overview

I have tested one or two Tour AD shafts in the past and the Tour AD DI Hybrid has the same visual effect as the others.

To put it frankly, the Tour AD DI Hybrid looks very busy. It has a metallic white/orange color scheme but it’s the labeling that really stands out.

The brand name, model name, flex and weight indications are all in different fonts which gives the shaft a rather hectic look.

But I loved the feel of this shaft so much that I was easily able to overlook its rather noisy look.

The Tour AD DI has a progressively stiff bend profile: it’s stiff in the tip, a bit lighter in the midsection and soft in the butt.

This creates a very smooth transition even when you really load up on it. I particularly loved the stiff tip section because it allowed for accuracy that you don’t often get in such an active shaft.

The Tour AD DI Hybrid comes in four weight classes: 75g, 85g, 95g and 105g.

The range of weights makes this shaft a good option for players of all skill levels. After all, who couldn’t benefit from superb smoothness and accuracy akin to much stiffer shafts?

Why is the Tour AD DI So Popular?

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft2

The Tour AD DI feels fast even if you don’t swing fast.

It feels fluid through transition and through the ball so you don’t waste a drop of swing speed energy.

And my numbers were the proof. During testing, my smash factor stayed between the 1.3 and 1.4 range.

So I would reckon that part of what makes this shaft so popular is its uncanny ability to transfer swing energy into the ball

How Does the Tour AD DI Hybrid Perform?

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft1

I tested the Tour AD DI Hybrid 85g in stiff flex.

The first thing I do when testing any shaft is bend it between both hands. Surprisingly, this gives me a good idea of how it’s going to perform.

The Tour AD DI Hybrid didn’t bend so easily under the force of my hands so I thought, at first, that it would play a bit stiff and boardy.

Well, it might be time to re-think my hand bend practice because it did not indicate the performance of this shaft.

The Tour AD DI Hybrid, even in stiff flex felt remarkably smooth but gave the accuracy of a stiff shaft.

I plugged the Tour AD DI into my 4-hybrid and my spin rates stayed in the 3500 and 400 RPM spin range. This allowed me to thread the needle on narrow fairways and deftly avoid hazards.

The torque was perfect for me but you can get less or more torque just by choosing a higher or lower weight class.

So we know that the Tour AD DI offers great club head speed (smash factor), keeps spin low and allows for straight flight.

Now let’s talk about distance. My average carry with the Tour AD DI was 164.5 yards. The rollout was pronounced due to the low spin so my average total distance was 180.9 yards.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

Regular is a good flex for 70-80 MPH swingers.

Stiff is good for about 81-95 MPH swingers and extra stiff for 96-105 MPH swingers.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The 75g and 85g weights should cover players in the 70-90 MPH swing speed range while the 95g and 105g weights would work for players in the 91-105 MPH swing speed range.

Why is it So Good?

The Tour AD DI Hybrid is a good shaft because it combines distance with accuracy.

It feels fluid and pliable which also helps when you need to finagle the shaft in order to dig the ball out of the rough.

Tour AD DI Hybrid First Impressions

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft3

At first, I thought the Tour AD DI would be too boardy in stiff flex.

But that was not the case at all. The Tour AD DI ended up being exceptionally fast without sending the ball spinning off-line.

Key Features & Performance

The Tour AD DI features a carbon/graphite design that allows for incredible stability in a lightweight package.

The tip has been stiffened to offer better club head control at impact as well.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Review

I tested this shaft with my 4H but I actually think it would work better in a 3H when you need that extra distance. It offers a nice, mid launch that can easily be worked a bit higher.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Pros & Cons

  • Great smash factor
  • Smooth transition
  • Offers straight flight
  • Great distance
  • Workable in the rough
  • Stopping power isn’t great
  • Busy graphics and lettering

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft

Overall Score: 97/100

Who Should Buy it?

To be honest, I might have given this shaft a perfect score if not for the lack of stopping power.

This isn’t the shaft you want to plug into your hybrids if you’re attacking a lot of greens with them.

But for the rest of us mortals, the Tour AD DI Hybrid is fantastic for garnering extra distance.

This is more-or-less a point-and-shoot shaft as well so it will help anyone who is struggling with accuracy.

Plus, it comes in a wide variety of weights and flexes so it is viable for many different swing speeds.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI vs. AD BB

I have the AD DI currently in my TM SIM 9 degree.  I'm hitting it a little high, and I'm a high-ish spin player when I'm not swinging well.  I'm currently swinging at about 98mph (recovered from two torn rotators).  Before the injuries I was a 1.4 handicap with a driver swing speed of about 105mph.

The AD BB looks like a viable option, but interested in your thoughts!

You are unlikely to see a huge difference in  launch or spin between these two shafts. Tip stiffness is going to have the largest impact on spin for players with a late release and that’s two shafts are similar in that area. If you are hitting a 9* driver excessively high with high spin, most likely you are adding dynamic loft at impact which a shaft change is not really going to help.

Understood.  I'm only high spin on bad swings.  On good swings the DI has decent numbers (14-16 launch angle and 26-2800 spin rates).  I'm just wondering if the BB would lower launch a tad and help reduce spin on bad swings enough to improve misses.

Lowering spin to about 2000-2200 would be a reasonable target - but not launch.

I'm looking at that one too.  I don't really need to lower launch - most of the time the DI is great, but there are days where I'm hitting it too high.  I may need to look a little harder at the TP since launch should be similar to the DI, but with a little less spin.

Good question!  The courses I play are generally pretty dry most of the year.  I also find it easier to hit it high than low, so a slightly lower launch wouldn't be a bad thing.

This completely depends on why your spin is increasing on these bad swings/misses a detailed description there a long with what the resulting flight/miss looks like is necessary.  I wrote a big long spiel about shafts and spin etc etc but I figured i'd save that for after we get some more info on your bad swings and what they are doing.

So you're counting on additional runout then, yes ?

Here's a link. It even gives you the choice of how the ball runs out ("Surface Type").

I've played AD DI in driver and 3w for years.  I've done numerous fittings and demo days and always ended up with that shaft.  A couple of years back I hit the BB at a TM demo day really well, but couldn't justify the cost at the time to switch.  This past winter, with a lot of time on my hands, I decided to give the BB 6S a shot.  I paired it with a 915 D2 with 12* loft, figuring that higher launch with lower spin would give me some more carry distance, and it has been a big success.  I'm driving it better than ever with much lower dispersion this year.  The (relatively) softer butt and tip sections of the BB vs the DI seem to work better for me.

I bought a TS2 3w after the price drops, and tried a similar experiment - I ordered it with a no-upcharge Diamana LTD S+ Blue 80, which is slightly lighter, with a softer butt and tip section than the DI, and that's working well so far too.

I was fitted for a Tour AD XC in my SIM Max driver.

I had great success with the BB and was told that the XC is the 'improved' version of the BB.

I like the XC shaft so far. XC standing for eXtra Carry per Tour AD.

It's either me spinning out of the shot or an early release.  Flight is either a flair right or a high straight/draw.  My normal shot shape is a med/high draw.

I know I’m late to this thread but just to throw my 2 cents in ? .  I played the DI for quite a while with similar issues and went to the GP and love it.  Plus from what I’ve seen (worked in retail pro shops for 8 years getting thru college) just because one person gets certain performance from a certain shaft doesn’t mean it will be the same for the next person.  So unfortunately best thing to do is hit them and see...could be the BB works perfect for you even if it doesn’t look like it would on paper.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. The main concern with expecting a shaft to help your spin numbers is that it is WAY down the list in terms of spin influence. Changing a shaft to alter spin is like changing the steering wheel of your car to make it handle better. Yes maybe it's more comfortable in your hands and gives you a bit of confidence, but there are a bunch of others things that should be changed first. Pretty much 100% of the time, bad swings that cause spin to jump up are a product of strike location (lower on the face), adding too much loft (early release like you said), or a combination of both. The only way a shaft can "help" this is if something about the shaft influences whatever is causing the bad swings, and as such is completely personal. This has NOTHING to do with advertised launch/spin characteristics of a shaft however.  You are far better off experimenting with different weights both in the shaft and in the head to effect change in performance.

That has definitely been my experience.

Being that I'm just starting to play again after three years off to heal from two torn rotators (both shoulders within 6 months of each other) I should probably stick with the DI until I'm swinging more consistently.  Three years ago when I was forced to quit, I was playing to a 2.4 handicap... so I know those swings are in there somewhere... just need to find them again!

How is the feel of the BB compared to the DI? I have the stats but I don't remember much about the BBs feel. Would a BB 8x feel softer than the DI 8x? Less lively?

Depends how one interprets feel

BB is softer in the butt but stiffer in the tip relative to the DI. BB has a mid kick point while DI is low. BB is lower torque than DI. All of these things can impact and golfers perceived feel of the shaft.

• Combination of modern technology and classic craftsmanship creates unbeatable performance on the course

• Durable design that will last for years to come

• The cost of the Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6 golf clubs can be a bit prohibitive for some, as they are quite expensive compared to other golf clubs.

• They may not be suitable for beginner players, as they require a certain level of skill and finesse to use effectively.

• Depending on your height and playing style, the adjustable weight design may not be customizable enough for you.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI with a Fresh New Look!

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI – one of the best performing and best selling golf shafts of all time now features a refreshed look for the 2020 season.  After nearly a decade of turning heads, the Graphite Design Tour AD DI has received updated graphics to match the more modern and contemporary styles of its competitors.  The legendary performance remains the same, but let’s take some time to celebrate this epic golf shaft’s fresh new look!

graphite design ad di 1

Get Up to Date on Graphite Design

First off, let’s chat a bit about Graphite Design .  The Chichibu, Japan based shaft maker offers up one of the most comprehensive lineups in the golf shaft business.  They feature a lineup of 10+ Tour AD (Accuracy and Distance) shafts that can fit golfers with nearly any type of swing.  If you’re seeking ultralight weight (as low as 45g) or super heavy (95g), they have plenty of options.  Graphite Design can cover light flexes all the way up to Tiger level Tour X-Stiff.  There are a wide variety of spin and launch characteristics among their lineup too, so Graphite Design truly offers a dialed in golf shaft for everyone.  Personally, I’ve been a big fan of their shafts for 15+ years.  I played the YS-6 and Pershing back in the day, and am always excited to hit their newest releases.

How Does it Feel?  A Quick Review

For those of you who’ve not hit the Tour AD DI, what are you waiting for?  It’s one of Graphite Design’s most versatile and playable shafts.  They describe it as a high-launch, low-spin shaft, which is often the perfect blend of characteristics to hit some enormous bombs.  Add to that, it’s a very stable, consistent, and responsive shaft.  You always know where the club head is in your swing.  I happen to think that the AD DI is a very FUN shaft to use as well.  It feels great, you know when you crush it, and it will remind you (but not yell at you) when you don’t.  Those are just some of the reasons that folks have been bagging this shaft for years.

graphite design ad di 3

What’s New With the Tour AD DI?

Graphite Design’s line of shafts often feature solid, bold colors, with a ring pattern near the handle.  When you see your favorite pro on television, you can immediately tell when they’re using a Graphite Design product.  When you get paired up with a random single with a Graphite Design shaft, you can just about guarantee they take their golf seriously.

The Tour AD DI may be the most recognizable of the line, with its eye popping orange and white color scheme.  While it’s a smart marketing move to choose such a vibrant color, it flat out performs for players of all levels.  When you combine the two, you build a loyal following and the shaft stays in people’s bags for a long time.

graphite design ad di 4

The original AD DI has been on the market for about ten years now.  In my opinion, the classic text and graphics will always look cool.  However, I will say some of the recently released models like the high launching AD IZ and the fabulous low-mid launch AD XC look amazing with their new graphics.  In these shafts, the “Tour AD” and Graphite Design logos got an upgrade to bigger, bolder letters and outlines.  It’s kind of an Art Deco font, and I’m particularly drawn to it.

The AD DI remains a huge seller, so it only made sense to give it a makeover!  They kept the same vibrant orange and added the updated logos.  What I like is that they kept the super subtle green accents on the rings and they left the glossy finish.  My opinion is that glossy is a bit more durable than a matte finish, and more true to the original.  Check the pics, we want you to be able to get a good look at the traditional version as well as the new look!

graphite design ad di 7

Final Thoughts – New Graphics Tour AD DI

With the way golf companies have improved manufacturing technique and introduced new materials, how wild is it that a shaft like the AD DI remains so relevant?  A great design and a great look have a lot to do with it, that’s for sure.  With a refreshed look, the Graphite Design Tour AD DI will surely find its way into professionals and serious amateur’s bags for years to come!

Review: Graphite Design Tour AD GP Shafts

gd tour ad di 6 review

Pros:  The stiffest of Graphite Design’s Tour AD shafts. Compared to similar shafts, the GP is impressively smooth and stable. Available in a wide range of weights (50-80 grams) and flexes (R2-X).

Cons:  Like other Tour AD shafts, the MSRP is $500.

Who it’s for:  Golfers who prefer tip-stiff shafts, as well as those looking to reduce launch and spin. The highly stable design can also suit golfers who want to tighten their dispersion, particularly if their miss is a hook.

GD_Logo

At the top levels of the game, golfers are getting stronger. It’s easy to see on the PGA Tour, where the game’s brightest young stars are regularly generating club head speeds in excess of 120 mph. It’s even more noticeable at top college and junior golf events, as fields are filled with golfers who are stronger and more technically sound than ever before.

In response, golf equipment manufacturers have evolved their product lines. Especially with metal woods, it has meant lower-spinning clubheads, and to complement them, stiffer, more energy-efficient shaft designs.

Tour_AD_Rings

Graphite Design new Tour AD GP shafts are intended to suit a wide range of golfers, as they’re offered in a variety of weights (50-80 grams) and flexes (R2-X) to fit a broad scope of golfers. Compared to previous shaft models from the company, however, the GP line (which stands for “Greatest Performance”) will optimize stronger golfers, as well as those who perform best with extremely stable shafts.

Like other new Tour AD models, they’re constructed with the company’s 50T carbon-fiber material, which gives them the smooth feel for which Graphite Design’s shafts are known. In the tip section of the shaft, however, the GP shafts use Torayca’s new T1100G carbon-fiber pre-preg with NanoAlloy technology, which gives the shafts a tip stiffness that are only rivaled by the company’s Tour AD M9003 shafts.

Graphite_Design_Profiles

Graphite Design’s representatives warned me the GP shafts “may feel more on the firmer side,” and would not play like the Graphite Design shafts I used in the past. Design platforms and robot testing are one thing, but golf is played by humans — not engineering software and robots. I wanted to know exactly how different the new shaft would perform compared to Graphite Design’s most popular shaft of all time, the Tour AD-DI.

Tour_AD_1

To find out, I took the GP shaft to the Launch Pad at Carl’s Golfland in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where I tested it against the Tour AD-DI in the most apples-to-apples comparison possible. Both shafts were built to my specifications, 7X (tipped 1 inch) at a finished length of 45.5 inches in a TaylorMade M1 430 (10.5 degrees set to 8.5 degrees).

The numbers below may look quite similar, but please read on, because the feedback and trajectory biases were not.

The Numbers

GraphiteDesignShafts

Tipped 1 inch, the GP was one of the stiffest shafts I have ever used, and felt considerably more stable than the Tour AD-DI that I’ve played in the past.

As you can see, I swung the GP slightly faster (0.8 mph), but the extremely stiff-tipped design caused me to release the clubhead sooner in a effort to hit a straight shot. You can see that in my Attack Angle, which increased from -1.4 degrees to 0.2 degrees. As a result of my manipulation, I also contacted my drives higher on the face with the GP, which lowered my ball speed, increased my launch angle and decreased my spin rate due to gear effect.

I talked to Graphite Design about my results, and company representatives weren’t surprised. According to their PGA Tour rep, the GP shafts are so stable that golfers are not tipping them in their drivers. Since the average tipping on Tour for a driver is 1 inch, that speaks to the GP’s robustness.

Tour_AD_GP_1

I also tried a GP 8X (tipped 1.5 inches) at 43 inches in my TaylorMade M1 fairway wood, and the shaft played entirely too stiff. My release was earlier, which caused my spin numbers to rise above appropriate levels, and my miss tended to be high and to the right. According to Graphite Design, golfers who are using GP shafts in their 3 wood are tipping them no more than 0.5 inches, and my results were typical of a shaft that was overtipped. The GP shafts have to be commended for their smooth feel, however, as well as their tight dispersion, despite my overtipping.

There’s no question that in the correct flex and tipping, the GP would have loaded and unloaded more efficiently than the AD-DI. That would have created all-around better launch conditions. Of course, results are going to vary from golfer to golfer depending on swing and style. That’s why the most important message from this review is to not try to emulate the specs of Tour player, but to be fit for the shaft that works best for your game.

Tour AD GP Flexes

Tour_AD_GP_Specs

If you’re a stronger golfer, or one who’s looking to tighten up your dispersion — especially if your miss is a hook — the GP is likely a good option for your game. And if you’re coming from another Graphite Design shaft, you’ll likely find the performance characteristics of the Tour AD GP to be noticeably, and impressively different.

This review would have been helpful if you used the right specs (ik its obvi). Not only were you not able to load the shaft correctly, ur numbers/results throws everything off of the gp. more spin with gp than di? who would want that haha

According to the bend profile of this shaft any tip trimming done actually makes the shaft tip area play softer which speaks volumes to the stoutness of the shaft that with your speed Zak, and the amount you tipped the shafts that it still played to stiff.

what about dispersion Zak? Thats the whole point of a shaft as stiff as this!

The dispersion was very extremely tight, JJ. It’s the most stable shaft I’ve ever tested from GD.

A good review would have been completely stock vs stock, then perhaps throwing in numbers from your current tipped gamer. The only thing I can take away is don’t heavily tip a brand new shaft you’ve never tried before.

gd tour ad di 6 review

Jan 22, 2016 at 10:42 pm

the reason tour players aren’t tipping this shaft isn’t because its too stiff, its because the profile of this shaft makes it play softer when tipped due to an increasingly stiff tip section. When tipped you are removing a piece of the stiffest portion of the shaft. It’s been recommended by club builders to only tip this shaft when trying to make it play softer.

That is total BS emb. Don’t listen to those guys okay. GD and many of the new shaftmakers who are copying the innovation of experienced materials experts, make a prolonged tip section so the shafts are more versatile and can be used in all woods. Understand, anytime you tip a tapered shaft (and they are all tapered, even fishing rods) it gets stiffer–PERIOD. Even if you tipped past the prolonged tip section and got into the taper where the walls get thinner, the hoop strength makes it get stiffer. Tipping shafts has never been an exact science so go at it incrementally–remember you can’t put any tip back. lol

Apr 28, 2016 at 6:16 pm

emb is correct. try looking looking at the shaft bend profile before commenting

Insider photos from tiger woods’ launch event for his new “sun day red” apparel line.

gd tour ad di 6 review

On Monday evening, inside the swanky, second-story “Coach House” event center in the Palisades Village, just minutes down the road from the 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, Tiger Woods and TaylorMade officially announced their new apparel/footwear/accessory line, called “Sun Day Red.”

The Sun Day Red website officially launched on Monday night during the event, and the products are set to go on sale starting May 1.

The “Sun Day Red,” or “SDR” name will be self-explanatory for most golf fans, since he’s been wearing a victory-red shirt on Sunday’s for his entire professional career, but Woods explained the meaning of Sun Day Red at the launch event:

“It started with mom. Mom thought – being a Capricorn – that my power color was red, so I wore red as a junior golfer and I won some tournaments. Lo and behold, I go to a university that is red; Stanford is red. We wore red on the final day of every single tournament, and then every single tournament I’ve played as a professional I’ve worn red. It’s just become synonymous with me.”

The Sunday Red outfit has worked to perfection for his 82 PGA Tour victories, including 15 majors, so why not make an entire apparel line based on the career-long superstition?

As I learned at Monday’s launch event, the new Sun Day Red line includes much more than just clothing. To go along with a slew of different golf shirt designs and colorways, there were also windbreakers, hoodies, shoes, hats, headcovers, ball markers and gloves on display.

The upscale event was hosted by sports media personality Erin Andrews, with special guests David Abeles (CEO of TaylorMade) and Tiger Woods himself.

As explained by Abeles, the Sun Day Red brand is an independently-run business under the TaylorMade umbrella, and is based in San Clemente, California (rather than Carlsbad, where TaylorMade headquarters is located), and it’s run by a newly-formed, independent group. Brad Blackinship, formerly of Quiksilver and RVCA, is the appointed president of the new brand.

As for the logo itself, obviously, it’s made to look like a Tiger (the animal), and is comprised of 15 tiger stripes, which correspond with Woods’ 15 major championships. While the logo may need a 16th stripe if Woods adds a major trophy to his collection, it makes perfect sense for the time being.

The golf/lifestyle line is meant to combine premium precision and athletic comfort, while still having plenty of wearability and style off the course. Like Woods said on stage at the event, he wants to be able to go right from the course to dinner wearing Sun Day Red, and that was exactly the aesthetic on display at the event on Monday.

Following the official announcement from Woods and Abeles, they revealed multiple pieces of clothing, accessories and footwear for the event-goers to ogle (and photograph). Check out a selection of product/event photos below, or head over to our @GolfWRX Instagram page for video coverage…OR, head into our GolfWRX Forums for even more photos and member discussion.

Titleist launches new Vokey WedgeWorks 60 “A” grind wedge

gd tour ad di 6 review

The menu of grind options just got more expansive for Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks consumers, with the addition of a “60A” wedge to the lineup.

Previously, Vokey offered seven main grind options for players with various needs :

  • T Grind: The narrowest sole option, which is widely used by PGA Tour players, and has low bounce
  • L Grind: The lowest bounce option, with heel, toe and trailing edge relief for maximum versatility
  • F Grind: An all-purpose grind that’s best for full wedge shots played with a square face
  • S Grind: A neutral grind, best for full shots played with a square face
  • M Grind: A versatile grind that’s for players who want to open and close the face for various shots
  • D Grind: A higher-bounce wedge that’s for players with a steep swing angle, but want to play shots from various club orientations
  • K Grind: The highest-bounce wedge option, with heel, toe and trailing edge relief for versatility

Titleist has now added the “A” grind, which has actually already been played on the PGA Tour by golfers such as Tom Kim, who used an A-grind to win three times on the PGA Tour, Wyndham Clark, who won the U.S. Open using an A-grind, and Max Homa, who used an A-grind at the 2023 Open Championship.

gd tour ad di 6 review

According to Titleist, the Vokey WedgeWorks 60A wedge is a low-bounce option that’s for golfers with a shallow angle of attack, and who play in firmer conditions. It has a “smoothed-out” sole for a faster feel through the turf, helping some golfers slide under the ball easier at impact.

“The most important club for me, probably in my bag, is this A grind,” Clark said, according to a Titleist press release. “I use the SM9 60-degree A grind, which is a low bounce 60 that is very versatile. I’m able to – on tight lies, rough, wet lies, firm lies, whatever it is – hit the shot I want, and with the amount of spin I want, trajectory and everything.”

gd tour ad di 6 review

Apparently, Geoff Ogilvy played a large part in the A-grind coming to life.

“I spoke with Geoff (Ogilvy), and we got on the topic of Australian golf courses and how they compared to courses in America, and around the world,” said Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill, in a press release. “I asked him some specific questions, which resulted in an idea to design another lob wedge grind option that complemented the firm links-style conditions that players face – not just in Australia and Europe – but globally. Geoff has always been a low bounce player in his 60-degree, so I took his 60.04L wedge and removed the ribbon, resulting in a grind that moves through the turf quickly with very little resistance.”

gd tour ad di 6 review

The new Vokey A-grind will be available on Nov. 7, selling for $225 each. Custom options include up to six toe engravings, 10-15 character stamping options, the Flight Line alignment feature option, and custom shafts/grips/ferrules are available.

GolfWRXers put the Full Swing KIT’s accuracy to the test

gd tour ad di 6 review

Last month, four GolfWRX forum members traveled to The Grand Golf Club at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego, California, to test the Full Swing KIT launch monitor and to see how it stacks up against other launch monitors. If you’re not familiar with the Full Swing KIT , development began when Tiger Woods requested a launch monitor he could trust on the range as much as he trusted his Full Swing simulator in his own home. Later, the KIT earned Tiger’s seal of approval and has been seen with him at every tournament he’s played in since its release.

GolfWRX members on the KIT’s accuracy

zap311: “The Full Swing team seems obsessed with accuracy when it comes to the KIT – The team talked about how this product officially shipped about 18 months ago and they are already on firmware release #20. They said they are regularly releasing updates (overnight via WiFi) to continuously improve accuracy and performance. That is pretty awesome and it’s nice to hear that they are not a company that “ships it” and moves to the next thing. I think they are on the right track since I saw virtually no differences in the data when testing vs. GCQuad and Trackman today.”

double or triple?: “In some cases the difference was less than half a degree on launch and less than 50 rpms on spin.”

hatrick11: “The differences were statistically nonexistent. I think it’s hard to believe for a lot of people when you think about the huge price disparity, but I can’t state enough how close the Full Swing was to trackman every single time, for each of us.”

“Outside, the data is just really really accurate. I know my numbers and know this particular range very well and the KIT was spot on all day. I also had some very variable quality golf balls in the bucket I hit and there was really only one spin rate in the whole session that had me raising my eyebrows at all.”

SwingBlues: “The GolfWRX Full Swing/WRX Experience showed Full Swing KIT produce numbers the same as the GC Quad (GC4) and the Trackman4. Dollar wise, both LMs are easily north of KIT, so this is HUGE to stand up there with the bigger boys on the Podium. For me, it seems more “apples to apples” to compare KIT to GC3. My own testing validates what we saw at the Experience. It shows critical data points like spin, carry, ball speeds are dead on or almost dead on for 40 yards and up on both GC3 and KIT.”

More on the Full Swing KIT

zap311: “The versatility of viewing data is impressive – Depending on usage, everyone has different preferences for viewing data. You have on-device, phone, tablet, monitor, smartwatch, or audio/headphones. I’m pleased to say that Full Swing covers all of these. You can use the app on iOS devices (they said Android is planned for the future). This includes viewing your last shot on the Apple Watch with a few options and turning on audio playback of your preferred metrics following each shot. I’ll post screenshots of this later. You can also choose between 4 data points or 1 data point on the device itself. It was easy to use the app to customize the top 4. For example, I was able to quickly change from launch angle on irons to swing path on driver.

“The KIT was very easy to use – Once you spend a few minutes learning the app and settings, it is very simple to select a club, line up the target line, and fire away. You don’t have to use a level or a laser to line up. KIT uses the built-in camera to tell you where to line up within the app or on-device screen. I was also able to boot up the KIT in less than a minute and drop it down on the tee box for our on-course trial today. Because of this simplicity, I can see it being more practical to bring to the course…

“The Full Swing team really thought through usability for the KIT. You can see up to four data points on the device’s OLED screen. You can see all 16 data points on your iPhone/iPad along with a video replay of the shot, you can view one primary metric from your Apple Watch, and you can enable audio playback for any of the 16 data points. For me, this was a dream as a full iOS user. One other feature I like is that you can star a particular shot to save it. You can also send shot data + the video recording to your coach if you want.”

double or triple?: “I was able to meet the teaching pro at the range I’m using for testing – PGA teacher/member Ryan Kolk. He and his team have 4 units amongst themselves and use them both personally and with their students during lessons. Ryan spent time dialing in his knowledge of the range balls vs proV1x (gamer) to better understand the FSK and he believes the consistency is there with the FSK and within trackman and GC/Foresight models. His preference is to use FSK while testing shafts and new product before using them in his personal playing bag which as a GolfWRX member is 100% appreciated. For his better students, he believes the information like Face to Path and Club Path that FullSwing Kit offers is great to help them understand what their swing is doing and use that information to better themselves.”

hatrick11: “It’s nice to know I can get super useful practice sessions in at my house, and can do in in ~20 min stints; with two little kids at home I can’t just go out for frequent or lengthy range sessions, so this is super valuable and I think will help me keep my game from degrading and allow me to spend my limited free time enjoying the occasional round with friends. In particular with the KIT, as opposed to the cheaper monitors or the other “mid tiers” like GC3, seeing path and face-to-path data is the key item that makes my practice sessions useful…when I am grooving it my path is almost always between 0-2* out to in, with face control being the main thing I need to work on. When my game goes sideways I start coming more in to out, and combined with face consistency being an ongoing issue, that brings the bad left miss into play. Previously I have struggled getting real use out of net practice, because the feels don’t always match reality. This data and video evidence really helps keep me honest, so it was great to see that I was eventually able to get that piece dialed in with KIT.”

SwingBlues: “One feature I am really starting to like is how easy to see the video of each shot. My buddy was not hitting it well, we went to the video and we could see the takeway was too far to the outside.”

“Using the app, it will display all 16 data points. Below is an example of one of my iron shots. Pretty impressive data captured by KIT. On KIT itself, the launch monitor display can be configured to show a single data point, or it can show a grid of 4 data points where the golfer choose which ones to display!”

Head over to the thread for more comments, reviews, and future updates as our members continue to test the Full Swing KIT. Don’t forget to become a member today for future opportunities like this, plus product member testing and giveaways!

Tour AD DI Wood Shafts

gd tour ad di 6 review

The Tour AD DI “ D EEP I MPACT” is designed to provide golfers with more power and stability in their golf shaft. Designed and manufactured exclusively at the Graphite Design factory headquarters in Japan, the Tour AD DI orange and black colored options are available in 50g R2 (Lite), R1 (Regular) S and X flex, 60g SR (Stiff Regular), S, X and TX (Tour X-Stiff) flex, 70g S, X and TX (Tour X-Stiff) flex and 80g S, X and TX (Tour X-Stiff) flex.

The Tour AD DI 5-R2, R1 and S flex, 6-SR, S and X flex, 7-S and X flex and 8-S and X are available in two color schemes orange with white bands and green rings and a 2nd color option of black with white bands and silver rings.  The Tour AD DI 5-X, 6-TX, 7-TX, 8-TX and 9-X flex shafts are available only in the orange color scheme.

The Tour AD DI is our first shaft design that was integrated with Toray Company’s original NANOALLOY material technology in the tip section of the shaft.  This material technology has now come to be known as “ DI Technology ”.  This unique material technology promotes additionally shaft stability without the loss of feel and allows the player to create greater club head speed resulting in greater ball speed while still providing exceptional feel and control.

The Tour AD DI also utilizes premium, aerospace quality 50t carbon-fiber materials to provide the best performing shaft available. The softer mid-section bend profile of the Tour AD DI allows the player to load the shaft properly, yet it maintains a firm enough tip section through impact promoting a high launch and low spin ball flight condition.  The result, the Tour AD DI delivers players to the next level in shaft performance and will create a “ D EEP I MPACT” on your game! Revolutionary technology, design and the most advanced materials are trademarks in all Graphite Design shafts, resulting in the highest quality premium golf shafts on the market today. Validating the company’s “Tour AD” logo, all of Graphite Design’s Tour proven shafts are specifically designed to promote a gain in A ccuracy and D istance.

Performance:

  • Designed to promote Mid/High to High launch angles with Low to Low/Mid ball spin rates.

Tip Trimming for Std Bore:

  • Pro’s Choice encourages consulting a PGA Professional or qualified club builder to help you determine the correct shaft and length for your swing profile and to meet your goals.
  • Always leave a minimum of 0.5″ of the parallel tip section of the shaft above the hosel to maintain shaft durability and prevent shaft failure/breakage.  For example, if the head has a hosel bore depth of 1.5″ and the shaft has a parallel tip length of 3.0″, the tip trim length should not exceed 1.0″.
  • Improper installation may affect the intended performance of the shaft. Warranty is for material and workmanship of our products. Improper installation voids warranty of product.

  1. Graphite Designs Tour AD DI Shaft Review

Every shot was near the center of the face, and the monitor was showing the same push-draw time after time. For players who haven't hit Graphite Designs shafts and can't make use of their feel chart, I would say that the AD DI is a mix of the Diamana Blue and White shafts. It has the smooth feel and pronounced kick of the blue with the ...

  2. 2024 Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Review

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI shaft is available in a variety of models, each with its own unique characteristics. The most popular models include: Tour AD DI. The standard model, which is designed to provide a high launch and low spin, with a smooth and stable feel. Tour AD DI-6

  3. Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Review

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI utilizes aerospace-grade, high modulus 50-ton carbon fiber in order to stiffen the tip section. While the mid and butt sections are of medium stiffness, the tip is stiff in order to promote acute club head control. This is part of what produces such tight shot dispersion. 4. Graphite Design Tour Ad Di 6 vs. 7: Which Shaft to Choose?

The first difference between the AD DI 6 and 7 shafts is the choice of flex. AD DI 6 offers three different types of flex; Regular, Stiff, and X-Stiff and AD DI 7 has two flex options: Stiff and X-Stiff. The quicker your swing, the stronger the flex you require, as golf shafts bend according to how quick your club speed is.

  5. Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6 vs 7

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7 is designed to provide a low launch and low spin for maximum control. The Tour AD DI 7 is also made from high-quality graphite materials and has a stiff tip section, which enhances the stability of the shaft. The Tour AD DI 7 has a slightly higher torque rating compared to the Tour AD DI 6, which means that it ...

  6. Graphite Designs AD DI Shaft

The fact that the AD-DI did not perform as well for me does not mean it couldn't be a better shaft for someone else. Value. At $380, the Graphite Designs AD-DI is at the very high end of shafts. While on one hand, I'm a bit aghast that shafts are now breaking through the $300 price barrier, there's a part of me that says, “In for a penny ...

  7. Shaft Test: Graphite Design's new Tour AD-TP versus the famous Tour AD-DI

The Numbers. I tested my Tour AD-DI gamer shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) against a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, untipped) and a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) in a TaylorMade M1 460 head (10.5 degrees) set to neutral. Yes, I have a bit more swing speed in the tank than displayed below, but it's also late October and I don ...

  9. Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft

One area that Graphite design has always been known for is their incredibly smooth feeling. The DI was no different. It has a great controlled smooth feeling from start to finish. 10. Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Review

The torque was perfect for me but you can get less or ...

  16. Review: Graphite Design Tour AD GP Shafts

To find out, I took the GP shaft to the Launch Pad at Carl's Golfland in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where I tested it against the Tour AD-DI in the most apples-to-apples comparison possible. Both shafts were built to my specifications, 7X (tipped 1 inch) at a finished length of 45.5 inches in a TaylorMade M1 430 (10.5 degrees set to 8.5 degrees).
