2023 Tour Championship purse, prize money: Payout for Viktor Hovland, every golfer in FedEx Cup Playoffs final

A big trophy and an even bigger payday is on the line this week as the pga tour postseason comes to a close.

fedex-cup-trophy.jpg

The final payday of the season will arrive in players' bank accounts soon following the 2023 Tour Championship, which concluded Sunday. Competing for the FedEx Cup bonus pool of $75 million, the remaining field of 30 players at East Lake Golf Club tried to make one final splash before calling it an offseason.

Every player who finished inside the top 150 of the FedEx Cup standings will receive some portion of this bonus, but nearly $60 million of it was still up for grabs in Atlanta. A player's career earnings will not technically grow because of his performance in the postseason final, but that doesn't mean the money is not astronomical.

For the second straight year, $18 million was be awarded to the FedEx Cup winner -- Viktor Hovland -- with every player inside the top 10 cashing seven figures. All 30 players enjoyed the luxury of claiming at least $500,000, even if their play resulted in a last-place finish.

Scottie Scheffler was the only man to surpass $18 million in earnings this season, and he was on the cusp of a $40 million year if he won his first FedEx Cup crown. Alas, that did not happen. Hovland, Jon Rahm, Rory Mcilroy, Wyndham Clark, Max Homa and Patrick Cantlay all entered East Lake with at least $10 million already under their belts.

Below is a look at the payouts for each golfer from the field of 30 at the 2023 Tour Championship.

Rick Gehman is joined by Kyle Porter, Patrick McDonald and Greg DuCharme to break down Viktor Hovland's clinical performance at the Tour Championship. He is the 2023 FedEx Cup Champion. Follow & listen to The First Cut on  Apple Podcasts  and  Spotify .

2023 Tour Championship money: Purse, winner’s share, prize money payout

golf tour championship prize money

The 2023 Tour Championship prize money payout is from the $57.925 million purse, with 30 professional players who complete four rounds at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga., earning an official-money paycheck this week.

The winner's share of Tour Championship prize pool is at $18,000,000, with the second-place finisher taking home $6,500,000 in PGA Tour prize money today. The Tour Championship prize-money payout breakdown shows a payout of more than 18 percent of the purse to the winner, and how much each PGA Tour player earns is guaranteed down to the last-place player, which is $500,000.

For 2023 Tour Championship results and payout , see our final leaderboard

The Tour Championship field is headed by Viktor Hovland , Scottie Scheffler , Max Homa , Rory McIlroy , Matt Fitzpatrick and more. Hovland has a big lead coming into the final day, but East Lake can produce some high, varied scores.

This tournament started with 30 players, and a cut was not made this week after two rounds. Every professional player in the field is paid for completing the event, but how much each player is paid at the 2023 Tour Championship from the correct 2023 Tour Championship full-field payout is based on their finish.

The 36-hole cut is typically made to the top 65 players and ties, with every player able to move up in the final round. However, in the FedEx Cup playoffs, none of the events have a cut.

The 2023 Tour Championship prize money payout is set ahead of the event, with the PGA Tour adding money to the purse if more than 65 professionals make the cut to ensure all players are paid, as is not the case this week.

What else is on the line

Beyond money, there are important points, perks and benefits on the line for the field -- in particular, the tournament winner.

The winner of this event will win the FedEx Cup, the PGA Tour's season-long points race.

Additionally, there are 49.5 Official World Golf Ranking points on the line for the winner.

While this event offers a significant payday, a win comes with the benefits that come with winning on the PGA Tour. Winners of these events get a five-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour and entries into all four majors for the next three years.

Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy pose with their trophies after the end of the DP World Tour Championship. Rahm claimed the tournament title while McIlroy won the season-long points race.

Andrew Redington

To say Jon Rahm loves playing the DP World Tour Championship on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates would be the understatement of understatements. The 28-year-old Spaniard had two wins and a T-4 showing in his three previous starts in the Old World circuit’s season finale, posting a scoring average of 67.66.

It was more of the same this week, as Rahm followed up an opening-round 70 with a 66-65-67 finish to take the tournament title for a third time, outpacing Tyrrell Hatton and Alex Noren by two shots. In the process, he lowered that career scoring average to 67.5.

It was Rahm’s ninth career DP World Tour victory and fifth win in the tour’s elevated Rolex Series events. With the triumph, Rahm claimed the $3 million first-place prize money payout (€2,891,271) from the overall purse of $10 million. He also saw his career earnings on the DP World Tour rise to €21,834,859.52, the 19th player in tour history to break the €20 million mark.

There was another winner on Sunday as well as Rory McIlroy, while finishing four strokes back of Rahm in solo fourth place, earned the DP World Tour’s Harry Vardon Trophy as the season-long points title winner . It’s the third time McIlroy has won the honor, but the first in a season in which he also won the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup title.

2024 Masters money: Purse, payout breakdown, winner’s share

Augusta National released the 2024 Masters prize money, with the total purse jumping to $20 million. Here's the payout breakdown.

Darren Riehl/GOLF

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Masters purse is getting a boost. Augusta National released the 2024 Masters prize money breakdown on Saturday, with the total purse increasing to $20 million. Last year, the purse was $18 million, which was already a big jump from the previous year ($15 million).

The winner of this year’s Masters will receive $3.6 million —  Jon Rahm won $3.2 million last year — with the runner-up taking home $2.16 million and 3rd earning $1.36 million.

For years, the majors were the biggest paydays in pro golf (along with the Players Championship, the marquee event on the PGA Tour), but the PGA Tour/LIV Golf divide has played a big role in increasing purses across the sport.

Fred Couples trolls LIV Masters qualifiers over Greg Norman tickets

The Masters’ purse increase means it’s now equal to the total purses offered at LIV Golf events (those are $25 million, but $20 million for the individual portion), and the PGA Tour’s Signature Events , which are also $20 million.

Last month’s Players Championship had a $25 million purse, and Scottie Scheffler earned $4.5 million for his win .

It’s unclear how much will be up for grabs at the three remaining men’s majors of 2024. Last year, the U.S. Open purse was $20 million, the PGA Championship $17.5 million and the Open Championship $16.5 million.

The complete payout breakdown for the 2024 Masters is below. The remaining professionals beyond 50th place who made the cut will receive payouts ranging downward from $49,200 depending on finishing position. The pros who miss the cut receive $10,000 each.

Who are the star names in the dp world tour championship.

The 15th edition of the DP World Tour Championship once again concludes the season-long Race to Dubai at the Earth Course of Jumeirah Golf Estates .

Unlike 2022, the winner of the Race to Dubai has already been confirmed – Rory McIlroy claimed the Harry Vardon trophy a week early after another successful season on the Tour for the 34-year-old that included victories in the Dubai Desert Classic and Genesis Scottish Open.

While the prize money the four-time Major winner will receive for topping the standings for the fifth time has yet to be confirmed, the victor for the last four years has picked up $2m from the Race to Dubai bonus pool of $5m.

Last year, Jon Rahm beat Tyrrell Hatton and Alex Noren by two shots to claim the DP World Tour Championship title for the third time. That handed him a $3m windfall from the $10m purse, and it has increased to $10.5m this year, albeit with the same amount on offer to the winner.

Perhaps unsurprisingly considering its status, the event has the largest prize fund of any DP World Tour event and $1.5m more than the other four Rolex Series events over the season.

The purse is also $2.1m more than that being offered by the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic this week, highlighting its position as one of the biggest tournaments in the calendar, even though that’s not reflected in the number of Official World Golf Ranking points available in it, which is fewer than the tournament at Sea Island .

While the winner will see a sizeable boost to his bank account, the payday for the runner-up will be considerable, too, at $1.275m.

As well as the defending champion the biggest name in the field is Rory McIlroy , and many more of the world's best players are in the 50-man field, too, including 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick , who is going in search of his third DP World Tour Championship title. and the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup winner Viktor Hovland .

Rory McIlroy during a DP World Tour Championship practice round

Rory McIlroy has already claimed the Race to Dubai title

Other big names include six-time DP World Tour winner Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Kim, whose most recent start saw him claim victory at the Shriners Children’s Open. Major winner Shane Lowry and his Ryder Cup teammates Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard, Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre also play.

Some players also have their sights set on a PGA Tour card as those who finish in the top 10 of the Race to Dubai standings, not otherwise exempt, will claim 2024 PGA Tour exemptions.

In prime position to earn their PGA Tour cards are Adrian Meronk, Ryan Fox, Victor Perez, Thorbjorn Olesen, Alexander Bjork, Sami Valimaki, MacIntyre, Jorge Campillo, Ryo Hisatsune and Rasmus Hojgaard.

Where Is The DP World Tour Championship Held?

The DP World Tour Championship is held at the Greg Norman-designed Earth Course. The course, which has held the tournament since it opened in 2009, takes inspiration from the parkland courses of Europe and the USA.

How Does The DP World Tour Championship Work?

The top 50 players in the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai rankings are eligible for the season-closing DP World Tour Championship, and every one of those players is competing in the 2023 edition. Like most other DP World Tour events, the action takes place over four rounds of stroke play.
